spooky tuesday is a (now not so new!) podcast where we’re breaking down all of our favorite slashers, thrillers, monster movies and black comedies on the new scariest day of the week.
we'd say we didn't know how badly we needed paranorman (2012) on our spooky tuesday pride month lineup until we saw it, but sydney definitely did. with everything going on in today's ~~political climate~~ (and despite this movie being a decade old), the stop-motion masterpiece feels more timely than ever. it's not just that it was the first animated film to feature a canonically queer character, although it totally was, just fyi. it's also that the whole story challenges viewers to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to the central message that it's ok to be different. if you still need convincing, we'll go ahead and say this: it's cozy horror, babes. haven't you heard that's all the rage?
give spooky tuesday a listen on apple podcasts, spotify, iheart radio, or stitcher

your post reminded me about how all tv and movie producers in the 2010s were like we need to make fat jokes get robert capron and tucker albrizzi I had to look their names up to send this but it's those red headed kids that were in everythingggg especially that second kid it was terrible disney chewed him up
OMG LITERALLY i dont remember the first one outside of rowley but i saw tucker albrizzi everywhereee and it was exactly the same as spencer breslin like they just went 'ok we need a fat stupid shitty kid lets get these children who are typecast for this role and this role only this wont have any effects on their psyche growing up surely'

Norman can see the dead. He can talk to them too. His parents really wish he would stop, especially his dad, who calls it “limp-wristed hippie nonsense.” Norman gets bullied at school, and he hangs out with Neil, who is bullied for being fat. Norman’s granduncle warns him that the dead are going to rise in the town of Blithe Hollow, and only Norman can break the witch’s curse.
ParaNorman (2012) is vaguely about how people are often attacked because of their apparent differences. This message potentially includes members of the LGBTQIA community, and this film does include a gay character, albeit as a punchline at the end of the film.
This is a funny, spooky stop-motion film from one of my favorite animation studios, Laika. I think there’s something about the message and the plot that feels weak and diluted. It’s all a little too abstract, too hard to explain. I like some of the characters, especially Neil, but overall this film does not hold up to other Laika greats like Coraline and Missing Link.

Paranorman (2012):
“ A misunderstood boy takes on ghosts, zombies and grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse (IMDb Description). “
Here’s an amazing movie that I saw yesterday. I was not expecting much from this movie. I was expecting this to be a simple animated movie with horror vibes, but oh my gosh it’s so much more than that. This movie is FUNNY. I’ve laughed so hard at some of the jokes. The story itself may not be that creative, but I like how they tell it. The characters are hilarious and quite memorable. If you want to watch a fun and cute movie, with some “horror” elements, then give this movie a chance. It’s really good, specially in the beginning.
