Something that’s been eating at me for a while as an anime fan AND a Stranger Things fan post-ST4:

Edward Creel and NINA vs Edward Elric and Nina Tucker…vs the semi-sentient demodogs.

I'll start with a quick preface for anyone who doesn't know about the shitshow that was the Tucker family. Shou Tucker was a state-funded alchemist researching chimeras with the goal of creating one that could understand and speak to humans. If he failed to produce results, he would be stripped of his state-alchemist title and his funding would be discontinued. He had a daughter, Nina, and their dog Alexander. Ed and his younger brother Al (he's in the suit of armor. he's a disembodied soul attached to the armor. there's more lore but that's all you need to know atm) were very close with Nina, treating her like a baby sister.

It's all verrrry cute:

That is...Until.

Shou Tucker combines Nina with her dog to create a "chimera" that can speak...because he is incapable of doing so without using a human as the other component. His experiments with nothing but animals had failed, and the experimental chimera he created that gained him his title had been made out of his wife. He meshed his child with a dog for personal gain.

The names alone are enough to make me raise an eyebrow, especially given how widely know the sequence is as a horrific tragedy. The Duffers know about this sequence. Trust me, they do. It would actually be weirder if they didn't know this sequence, given its fame.

Anyway, as we see from the NINA sequence, the way Henward kills the children is identical to the other ST4 victims:

And he tells El they're a part of him, in his mind, just like he said about other victims he'd killed:

But when we get into Henward's actual mind-lair:

The children, unlike the other victims of ST4, are nowhere to be seen.

So...Where the hell are the children?

This is where the Ed-Nina-Edward-NINA ties starts making me retch and sob.

We see from D'art that the demodogs seem to have a personality of their own while also being connected to the hive mind.

We know that at least one of the Henwards is enmeshed with the Shadow Monster to be the Mindflayer, and that the Shadow "enters" democreatures to revive/activate them. We also see in Russia a cut-open demodog whose position and bindings are almost identical to Will's exorcism. The Mindflayer, even before the 001/Vecna reveal, is exclusively referred to as "he". D'art is also exclusively referred to as "he". If the pronoun use pattern holds true, and each creature that has "he" attached to it is linked to the mind/essence of a human being, then I ask again:

Where are the children?

This also links back with Brenner, because of course it does. Shou Tucker is very Brenner. A touch creepy, seems generally well meaning until you actually know what he's about, willing to exploit children for scientific prowess/funding. Shou Tucker is very much a mediocre, ordinary alchemist seeking greatness through others, making a good child into a dog-like abomination. It makes me think about why Early Scorched Vecna looks the way he does (the weird CGI on Jamie's face that makes him look so Brenner) and Nick's comments about Brenner being part demogorgon.

001.  BABY  PETER  ;  NO  AUNT  MAY  .  if  there's  a  verse  in  which  baby  peter  is  found  without  a  guardian  (  whether  it  be  an  accelerated  timeline  ,  or  MAY  passed  away    )  ,  sage  is  100%  the  one  taking  over  as  his  legal  guardian  but  it  should  be  noted  that  she's  ...  not  the  best  at  it  at  FIRST  .  she  tries  her  best  ,  but  balancing  shield  training  as  well  as  a  growing  baby  boy  ,  she  struggles  a  lot  to  balance  training  and  often  finds  herself  without  rest  ;  but  she  refuses  to  give  up  on  peter  ,  and  when  shield  gives  her  the  ultimatum  to  choose  between  CONTINUING  TRAINING  and  peter  ,  she  chooses  peter  . it  should  be  noted  ,  that  due  to  her  POWERS  , shield  asks  her  to  come  back  as  an  agent  and  finish  her  training  but  she  only  agrees  if  they  agree  to  PROTECT  peter  when  she's  gone  ,  and  in  the  case  she  dies  in  the  field  ,  that  he  gets  adequate  care  and  isn't  put  into  foster  care  .

002.  SAGE  is  always  where  peter  is  ,  and  peter  is  always  where  sage  is  .  if  not  ,  he'll  know  where  she  is  ,  and  she'll  know  where  he  is  .  whenever  she's  in  SHIELD  HQ  ,  he's  tailing  her  ,  or  whenever  he's  in  shield  hq  ,  she's  tailing  HIM  .  they're  a  pair  ,  one  without  the  other  ---  which  is  an  easy  target  .  shield  recognizes  the  duo  as  a  liability  but  they  can't  force  the  two  apart  or  send  them  on  different  missions  ,  because  sage  has  threatened  to  leave  shield  if  she  can't  go  with  PETER  .

003.  SAGE  often  times  struggles  to  SLEEP  ,  and  when  she  can't  ,  she'll  call  peter  over  to  have  warm  milk  and  HONEY  as  they  watch  comedies  and  the  golden  girls  until  they  both  fall  asleep  under  the  blanket  and  the  tv  turns  off  .

004.  WHEN  SAGE  is  genuinely  upset  ,  the  only  one  who  can  actually  calm  her  down  is  peter  .  it  usually  ends  with  her  RAGE  CRYING  in  his  arms  until  she  tuckers  herself  out  from  crying  . although  after  they're  usually  able  to  talk  about  why  she's  upset  .  she  always  CONFIDES  in  peter  ,  like  a  safe  ;  because  she's  one  of  the  FEW  people  she  trusts  .

      so he’d stayed away, promising felicia that he would. but it also felt like a test to himself, as if he thought that her presence tricked him into liking her. and it works, for the first few weeks. but then, ridiculously, he realizes that he misses her. which is RIDICULOUS. but distance strengthened a seed that had already been planted, nurturing a hesitation during sex with felicia, at second guessing when the blackouts return.

      he’s made a mistake, and he misses her, and he doesn’t know why.

      he goes to their bar, on thursday night. they used to meet and catch up, almost like a venting system that extended from their fake relationship. he picks their table, and he scouts the room for her, hoping she didn’t think his text was a prank. he’s missing days, and he hates to bring her into it, but he’s pretty sure it has to do with felicia and he needs SIENNA.

      he needs her to tell him he’s nuts, or reassure him he’s not CRAZY.

Danny Phantom Star Trek AU

Thinkin’ more about my Danny Phantom Star Trek AU. Tentative name: Ensign Phantom.

All of this is subject to change, so let me know what you think, what you’d do differently, or especially if there’s some way of expanding on the concept.

Ensign Danny Fenton, Danny Phantom in LD uniform, Danny Phantom in Prodigy Cadet Uniform, Danny Phantom in a white TNG uniform, Danny Phantom in his hazmat suit from the tv show, Danny Phantom in a LD space suit. That last one is the one I’m leaning towards the most.

Foley, Fenton, and Manson are all fresh out of the academy and aboard the Oberth Class U.S.S. as-yet-unnamed.

Not sure exactly how the chain of command works out, but the USS a-y-u is a science ship. It’s currently bringing notable and definitely not crackpot starfleet scientists Cmdr Maddie Fenton and Lt.Cmdr Jack Fenton to an alien artifact which was discovered by some TOS-era ship ages ago. Either Maddie Fenton is actually Captain, or there’s some uninteresting OC captain.

This au takes place starting in 2383, a couple years after Star Trek Lower Decks starts.

Like any good lower deck Starfleet crew, these fellas are some real weirdos.

* Ensign Tucker Foley. Age 22. Human. Tucker was assimilated by the Borg as a child or a teenager, but was recovered quickly enough that he could be rehabilitated. He then moved to Amity Park, North America, Earth, Sector 001, where he met Danny Fenton. He loves technology, tinkering, mathematics, and during his assimilation picked up an almost encyclopedic knowledge of all history, which he has no direct control over access of. Unlike most xBs, Foley has only ever increased the amount of implants since his rehabilitation. He seeks perfection and is secretly pretty sure everyone would just be better off if they could have an internet connection installed in their neck.

* Danny Fenton. Age 22. Human. Grew up in Amity Park, North America, Earth, Sector 001. Actually this one’s just a normal guy. Token normal guy who, unlike his friends, hasn’t technically died. Really not much to say about him. If he had purple hair he’d almost be as interesting as Brad Boimler. Who’s Brad Boimler, you ask? Never heard of him? Exactly... pay no attention to his parents, and pay no attention to their reputation for being Starfleet’s biggest crackpots.

* Manson Sam. Age 189 (or 23). Joined Trill. Sam’s previous host, i dunno, Irdon or something, was in his mid 20s when he was joined. The joining lead him to reconsider his life choices, and join Starfleet Academy to enter the Command division. Irdon was several years older than Fenton and Foley, but they got along well. The Sam symbiont has very bad luck. Of its previous three hosts, two had died young. So it was less of a surprise as much as a disappointment when Irdon Sam died on his first deep space assignment. Manson was a young botanist who received the Sam symbiont, and was able to continue Irdon’s Starfleet career, albeit in the Science division.

Not pictured:

* security officer and major pain in the ass Lt. Baxter. Seriously, who let him into Starfleet! He was one of Danny’s many bullies growing up, and Danny’s not convinced he’s that much better now.

* Counselor Jasmine Fenton. She was supposed to be a counselor on a beautiful long-range Andromeda class cruiser, but for SOME reason, her parents pulled some strings and had her assigned to this Oberth-class rust bucket.

Ensign Fenton is overjoyed to find that his friend Irdon is still alive, sorta. He almost immediately tries to pick up their friendship where they left it, to the point that he sometimes misses how different Manson is.

Anyway yeah I think it’d be funny if you had the same kinda dynamic of Danny seeing Sam as different than other girls and just one of the guys because she’s basically “Old Man.” But Sam doesn’t see herself that way--she retains a strong sense of Manson’s individuality--and Danny won’t see her that way forever.

At some point Danny has an accident. I’m not sure how this all goes down. I know I want to keep it related to “Danny, Sam, and Tucker are in a place they shouldn’t be, doing things they shouldn’t be doing, around technology that shouldn’t be messed with” but I think the portal will be some kind of alien ghost portal which the Fentons are studying.

Eventually the U.S.S. a-y-u ends up either stuck in the Ghost Zone, or stranded in a region of space where the boundary between the Ghost Zone and reality is weakest, and under constant attack by ghosts. And who are you going to call? Ghost-obsessed weirdos Jack and Maddie Fenton of course! (Pay no attention to the one ghost who keeps attacking the other ghosts. Or rather do, but pay attention with your phasers set to vaporize.)

Also perhaps Vlad is a Starfleet admiral who Jack and Maddie got half-killed in their experiments in their Academy days. He’s pulling the strings to get Jack and Maddie whatever they want so they can get themselves fully killed. Or something.

And Danni can be like, a Romulan clone. Yeah.

Having written this down, I am starting to wonder if a stationary setting, more like the show, might make more sense. Like if it were on a distant research outpost instead of a single ship. IDK.
