something that has bothered me about tua seasons 2-4 is the inconsistency of the relationships between the siblings.

starting with klaus, in season 1 ben and diego were his people. ben and klaus were always shown together in the flashbacks to them as kids and obviously every second of the show because klaus was the only one who could see him. but like… they were CLOSE. SO FUCKING CLOSE. they were the most SIBLINGS of all the siblings.

that continued into season 2. ben was randomly a bit colder towards klaus but they were still so fucking close.

and then ben left, and klaus for the first time was alone without his person. everyone else lost a brother when they were 17, except klaus. so he had to grieve ben for the first time. that didn’t happen, though. there were many nods to them being close, and then of course steve blackman pulled a steve blackman which means weird unnecessary incest implications, but it wasn’t clear just how close klaus and brellie ben were even though it had to be hard to be around someone who looked like ben and was kind of ben but also wasn’t ben.

and with diego, it also seemed like he and klaus were incredibly close. diego older-brothered klaus constantly s1 and they gave off the impression that they ran into each other a lot in the city during the years since leaving the academy.

then they completely disregarded it for the rest of the seasons. in s2 and s3 there a few interactions that could lend credence to this but for the most part it seemed like they threw it out the window.

allison and klaus had no clear relationship in season 1. they had some incredibly minor sibling interactions but nothing that indicated they were anywhere near as close as they imply in season 4. season 2 they were close and then season 3 not a lot of interaction. but s4 makes it seem like they have always been incredibly close which doesn’t make sense!!

five and viktor have a relatively consistent friendship, although s4 doesn’t really give viktor any relationship development with his siblings. same with five, if anything he just gets his relationships destroyed but that’s a different post!!

allison and viktor also are pretty consistently close. the implication is that they weren’t as kids but that they really try to be as adults, and i do like their relationship overall.

luther and allison nasty ew kill it with fire. like i thought we established in s2 that incest is weird actually and that we weren’t doing that and then season 3 came along and whatever whatever shut up.

diego and luther’s relationship is fun. they go from adversaries to himbo besties and it’s relatively consistent.

luther and viktor have similar growth. luther goes from piece of shit basically causing the apocalypse s1 because of how shitty he was to viktor towards really wanting to make things right and being the big brother he always should have been. they didn’t really have a relationship s4 but WHATEVER.

i feel like five and luther were together a lot the first two seasons and that very much changed. i’m not even that upset as i think five having character arcs with each sibling is good since he missed so many years with them (other than him and viktor they were always close and should have remained that way).

i think allison and diego and viktor and diego having relationship development would have been cool. in the comics viktor and diego have a band so we know they’re friends. and in the show allison and diego don’t have too many interactions but the ones they do have are SOOOO SIBLING and i adore that.

ben and viktor have some closeness s3-4 (and the end of s2) but it’s not really something we see, more so we’re just told. and then random flashback to them hanging out as kids before the mission which was confusing.

i think five and klaus were done the dirtiest with the relationship inconsistency. i understand wanting different characters to have arcs with different people, but when you sacrifice the established relationships and basically put your characters on shuffle then you also sacrifice character consistency, development, growth, etc.

i think a big problem is how many characters they brought on last season. there wasn’t time for consistent relationships among the brellies when they had to use a shit ton of time building new characters and relationships (and immediately killing them all off which was A Choice).

anyway just wanted to write out thoughts about this. would love to know other people’s thoughts (or headcanons about the siblings).

Klaus' is a blue raccoon with three eyes and a pink tail, and Viktor's is based off of the White Violin from the comics, except its head transforms into reaching arms. End ID.]

[ID: Luther's spirit is labelled First Simian In Space: THE MARTIAN APE. He looks like the ape that supplied Luther's body in the comics, drawn in the paranatural style; blue, with one eye. He is wearing an astronaut helmet and sitting in a coin operated rocket ship that is much too small for it. He has transformed the world around him into a scifi martian landscape; cardboard standups with doors and lockers scribbled on them are the only indication of the real world. Diego's spirit is a very small creature that looks a bit like a porcupine.

Allison's spirit is a giant green snake coiled around a tree branch, with a pattern down his back that looks like open mouths.

The first two images are centered on Allison, who is scowling in both. Someone unseen says "It can force people to do things, honey!" and "It's too dangerous to leave you alone with it." and finally, "So we fixed it."

The final image is of the spirit. He is captioned Muzzled Mind Controller: THE RUMOR. His mouth has been duct taped shut. He does not look pleased.

Klaus' spirit is a blue raccoon with dark purple legs and a fluffy striped pink tail. It also has three eyes.

Panel 2: Klaus asks it "With a name like that, what's your power?" The Seance, its nose just high enough to fit into frame, replies, "Oh, I can sense ghosts"

Panel 4: Klaus asks, "Seriously?"

Viktor's spirit is a Wight, a spirit so warped by rage and pain that it has permanently been changed, its spectral energy has become white, and has gained massive, devastating power. It looks a lot like the design of the White Violin in the comics, but it manifests too many or too few arms from where its head should be.

There are three images of it. In the first, it is kneeling. It has manifested six arms in varying degrees of completeness, and all of them look sad.

In the second, the matter of its head has split into many small pieces that almost look like parts of mouths, save for two clawing hands. It screams, in the Wight spirit language from Paranatural, WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME.

In the third, the largest, its knees buckle as it stands and manifests one reaching hand. It is captioned Violent White: THE WHITE VIOLIN. End ID]

My TUA OC'S

Okay, so, I wanted to share my TUA fanfiction OC's for a long time now. Finally, here they come!

The story which they are part of is called "Kraken & Peregrine" (it's a Diego x OC fanfic), the sequel to it is "Kraken & Peregrine: Here comes the end" (this is still ongoing) and there are a few more sequels to come, as I'm determined to write about all four seasons (and other events related to the story that are still a surprise). The fanfic can be read on Wattpad, under the name of @city_of_angels98, unfortunately, as for now, it's only available in Hungarian (my native language), but if there will be some of you who'd love to read it in English as well, I would be more than happy to translate it for you!

A little bit about her backstory:

She's one of the 43 children born on October 1st in 1989. Same as everyone else, she possesses the Marigold. Her powers include super speed, and she's also able to open portals from one place to another (she cannot open portals through different timelines, though, only in the timeline she's in). Her mother, Eleonora was approached by Sir Reginald Hargreeves back in the days when Everley was still a newborn, intending to adopt her baby, but she sent him away and decided to raise Everley herself, even though she was young and all alone, without any support system. Everley grows up in the suburbs of London, and she tries to control her superpowers on her own, but she's unable to get fully in charge of them, so she cannot use these powers whenever she wishes, not even when she gets older. She's fierce, brave, hot-headed, empathetic, kind, stubborn and slightly cleptomaniac.

In 2019, a week before Reginald's death, Everley's mother is murdered. After the mysterious circumstances of her death, Everley decides to search for Klaus Hargreeves; she's willing to pay him to contact her mother because she wants to find her killer and get revenge, so her mother can rest in peace. Of course, she arrives at the Hargreeves house at the worst possible moment, on the exact day of Reggie's funeral. And the one opening the door for her is none other than Diego Hargreeves, who reluctantly agrees to let her in - into the house and slowly, but surely into his life too.

His backstory:

His parents died in a car accident when he was only 5 years old. He was adopted and raised by The Commission, as soon as they realized he possessed a power that could make him the perfect human weapon: he can control the inside of the human body (organs, blood, etc.). Yes, he is also one of the 43. They train him and he soon becomes the Number One assassin at the Commission. They send him to missions where he has to kill people countless times, but as the years pass, he grows to realize this is all fucked up and wrong and demands they let him leave to forge a life for himself. The Commission doesn't want to let him go, so they lie to him, telling Danny he can retire "soon", but "until then", they give him another job to distract him from leaving: they send him way past the date of the Apocalypse, requesting he finds out whether mankind would be able to populate the Earth again after such a catastrophe (they are cautious not to let him ever meet Five Hargreeves - I won't spoil why -, even though both of them heard several stories of each other during the years, so he's sent to Europe and Asia instead of North and South America). Of course, outside of this job, they still use his assassin abilities occasionally. Despite his sad past, he's bubbly, kind, selfless, silly, and extremely intelligent, but he can easily be angered.

Years and years pass without his "promised" freedom ever getting fulfilled; at 61 years old he finally snaps and decides to take destiny into his own hands; he tries to escape and prepares himself to deal with the consequences of being a fugitive. But when he tries to tamper with a briefcase, he miscalculates something and the briefcase ends up not moving backward on the time frames of history, but instead, on his body. As soon as he realizes this and closes the briefcase, he's already in the body of his 15-year-old self, with the mind of a 61-year-old. The Commission forgives him, though, and he ends up working for The Handler for a couple of weeks so he can "prove his loyalty again". That's when he hears the story of Five and how the same thing happened to him too. Danny decides he must find and help him out so both can get rid of the Commission controlling their lives once and for all. However, Danny doesn't even imagine that meeting Five will result in him falling for The Boy instantly.

On Everley and Danny's relationship:

As they both happen to join the Hargreeves family almost at the same time, they grow a strong bond very quickly over being "the outsiders", and as time passes, even treat each other as siblings, being loyal af when it comes to one another.

My favorite silly headcanon from s4 is this: Diego is so unhappy with his lack of powers not because of his lack of purpose or the fact that he's been shunted into a roll where he feels degraded, but because he had to learn how to breathe for the first time in his life.

Was co-frontman for a very locally popular punk-rock band and started AT LEAST one pit fight. He's canonically a crazy shittalker. Also a realistically good detective, he could pull some crazy secrets to air out on stage. I do feel like he'd be a pretty objective antagonist though.

Propaganda for the wrestling skills:

He's been trained in martial arts since at least kindergarten and, knowing Reginald, very likely toddling age, and from what we've seen on page is by far the most combat-skilled of his siblings. His powers could MAYBE be helpful? Breathing indefinitely means you don't have to worry about where your face is placed, so he could probably get into some unorthodox, difficult-to-counter positions. While he isn't supernaturally talented like he is in the show, he can throw some shit real good and I fully believe that man could Mario-64-spin a steel chair and whip it like a boomerang into somebodies head.

The Understudies Season 2, Chapter 4

Word Count: 1.6k

Warnings:  angst, mentions of trauma/manipulation

“What on earth are you idiots doing here?”

The group of six looked at her, anger in their own minds as they held firm in the crowded elevator.  Five glared at her, “Dani…”

She held up the invitation, “I presume that father has found each of you as well.”

The group looked at each other, all recognizing the white cardstock that their invitations had been laid on. 

“Move!” she spat, pushing past her siblings.  She stood in the back next to Diego, and for a few floors, the elevator was laden only with the tension of the siblings. 

Until Luthor softly grunted. 

A foul odor suddenly filled the small box, and each of the siblings tried to hold back their disgust.  Each one of them praying that their desired floor came up fast.

“Sorry…nervous…” Luthor muttered. 

When the doors opened, they spilled out into the tiki lounge, all of them arguing who would be the one to speak. 

“Alright, when dad gets here, I’ll do the talking!”  Five announced as they spilled into the lounge, the music softly playing in the background.

“Actually I’ve got a few questions for him myself!”

“Hey, we don’t want to scare him off!” Five announced, “he might be able to help us stop doomsday and get us home!”

“No five, we need to figure out why he’s planning on killing the president!” Diego growled, storming around to the other side of the table that sat in the middle of the room.

“This is a matter of life and death you imbecile!”

“Okay, yeah,” Vanya sighed from her spot, “maybe we should take turns talking, yeah?  Here.  Whoever has got this conch shell gets to talk, okay?”

Five gave his sibling an annoyed look, “Vanya, we don’t have time for a debate, okay?”

“Maybe I should lead.  We all know that I’m a better public speaker than the rest of you!”

“Yeah, right!” Dani scoffed as Vanya handed the conch shell off to Allison, “who died and made you queen?”

“yeah, okay, daddy’s girl!”

“Oh, jealous number two?”

“HEY! “he began, “no more numbers.  No more bullshit.  We’re team zero.  We’re all team zero!”

“Hey Diego!” Luthor interjected, sitting himself down at the table, “you don’t have the conch.”

Diego gave Luthor an even more annoyed look and held up his hand, before ripping the conch shell out of Allison’s hands and throwing it against the far wall.  It crashed, breaking into pieces.  The rest of the siblings gave him a look.

“Yeah…that tracks!” Dani muttered.

“Classic!” Allison agreed.

Before anyone else could make anymore comments, the kitchen door burst open, Reginald with Brianna hot on his trail.  He was carrying his trademark notebook and a scowl.  Taking a seat, he wasted no time, while Brianna stood behind him.

“Not only have you burglarized my lab, set my chimp loose, conned your way into the Mexican consulate, repeatedly stalked and attacked me, but on numerous occasions called me…”

He stopped himself when Klaus sat next to him a martini glass in hand, “hey pops how’s it hanging.”

He gave Klaus a distained look as he continued, “…dad…my reconnaissance tells me that you’re not CIA, not KGB, and certainly not MI5.  So who are you?”

The team looked around at one another, the siblings unsure of what to say next, especially when Brianna was standing so close by.

“You have to tell him!”

Brianna’s gaze shot to Diego.  The kiss was still fresh in her mind, and the memories had been piling up since the other night at the consulate. 

“Brianna seems to have her own opinions on the matter, but I want to hear what each of you have to say!”

“We’re your children!” Five said as though it were the most obvious thing ever, “we’re from the future.  In 1989, you adopted us all and trained us to fight against the end of the world.  Called us The Umbrella Academy.”

“Why on earth would I adopt you seven?”

It was actually closer to thirteen…” Allison interrupted.

“Fourteen if you count Dot!” Five pointed out.

“Fourteen?”

“Most of them aren’t here!” Allison said firmly.

“Dead!” Diego interjected.

“Regardless, what would posess me to adopt over a dozen ill-manered malcontents?”

“We all have special abilities!”

“Abilities?” he asked curiously, sending a glance towards Brianna, “in what sense?”

“In the superpower sense!” Luthor answered.

“Call me old-fashioned, but I’m a stickler for a pesky little thing called evidence!” he said lazily, “show me!”

“Everybody wants to see powers all of a sudden, Allison scoffed as she fiddled with her drink, sipping on it.

“We’re not circus animals okay,” Luthor growled, “we’re not going to bounce balls on our noses and clap our hands like seals for your amusement!”

Reginald gave him a dismissive look while Diego’s frustrations got the best of him.  He whipped out a knife and launched it, making sure it went around both Reginald and Brianna, before going into the wall behind him.  Reginald shook his head and began to write notes.

“hey…what are you writing?”

The siblings all leaned forward as Reginald sighed, “you are zero for two young man.”

Allison sputtered, nearly spitting her drink all over the table.  Diego stood, ready to charge him, but number five was quick to cut him off, projecting himself in front of him.

“Stop!” he begged.

Reginald stopped writing, “now that is interesting.”

“Alright, well quick rundown,” Five began, wanting to get him to side with them, “Luthor:  super strength.  Klaus can commune with the dead.  Allison can rumor anyone to do anything…”

“Except she never uses it!” Diego accused.

Allison stopped sipping on her drink and looked at Diego, “I heard a rumor that you punched yourself in the face.”

Diego, without hesitation, punched himself in the face, and then groaned, holding his nose and cursing at Allison.  A few of the siblings tried to hold back their laughter, and Reginald turned to Brianna, an amused look on his face.

“And what about you?” he asked Vanya.

“Let’s not take Vanya for a test run!” Luthor said nervously.

“Oh yeah,” Klaus agreed, shifting uncomfortably in his seat, “that’s probably not a good idea.”

“It’s fine!” she disagreed, leaning forward in her seat, “I can handle it!”

“Handle it?” Allison asked nervously, “last time you handled it you definitely blew up the moon.”

The siblings began to beg Vanya to stop what she was doing, and the tension in the air rose.  Brianna stood defensively, ready to shut down whatever was about to happen.  A pale blue glow emitted from her hands as she prepared to roll time backwards.  She watched as Vanya tapped her fork against the drink, using the soundwaves to focus onto the centerpiece.

It exploded, sending chunks of fruit across the table and onto everyone.  The siblings began to sigh, happy that nothing major happened.  Brianna relaxed, the glow dissipating as Diego stood, “look we know that you’re involved in a plot to assassinate the president!”

“You were recently hospitalized, isn’t that correct?” Reginald asked, “you still appear to be suffering from delusions of grandeur and acute paranoia.”

“Father…”

“AM I?” Diego asked, pulling the picture from his pocket and putting it on the table, “explain this.  That’s you, two days from now on the grassy knoll.  At the exact spot that the president is going to get shot.”

“Well,” he shrugged, taking it, “ I supposed you’ve solved it.  You’ve single-handedly unearthed my nefarious plot.  Is that what you want to hear.  You fancy yourself a do gooder?  The last good man who will save us from our descent into corruption and conspiracy.  This is a fantastic delusion.  The sad reality is that you’re a desperate man, who’s tragically unaware of his own insignificance.  Desperately clinging to his own ineffectual reasoning!  More succinctly, a man in over his head!”

“FATHER!”

“Y-you’re w-wrong!” Diego whimpered, sitting back down into his chair, a tear falling down his cheek. 

“What, Brianna?” Reginald asked, turning in his chair, “I’ve met with them, as per your request.  I’ve indulged this because of the success we’ve had with your powers.  With your development.  With everything we’ve accomplished.  And yet, here I sit with half of the children that I so-called took in.  The other half is dead.  How successful was the Umbrella Academy, hmm?”

Each of the siblings sat in silence regressing to their childhood when their father had made them feel small and insignificant, “forget about the president.  We have a catastrophic war coming in five days.  We need to figure out how to stop it!”

“War?” Reginald scoffed, “we will always be at war with someone!”

“No this isn’t just some war,” Five argued, “I’m talking about a doomsday.  The end of the world.”

“Well,” he gestured to the siblings around the table, “you’re the special ones aren’t you?  Why don’t you band together and do something about it?”

For a moment, there was nothing, until Klaus’ hands raised suddenly.  The siblings made comments about him seizing, or overdosing.  A soundwave that was deep and distorted came from his lips.

“I’m B-“

“OUT WITH IT BOY!”

“BEN!”

And everything ran at Brianna, hitting her like a freight train.

Ben smiled at her, his hand stroking her cheek, “I’ve always been in love with you…I’ve always wished you would see me!”

“I’ve always been in love with you,” she admitted bashfully, “I thought-I’m not special…you wouldn’t-“

His lips crashed against hers, “you’re always special, Brianna…don’t ever think that you aren’t.”

“Well I’ve seen enough!”

Brianna’s gaze fell to Klaus who was passed out.  Her heart ached at the thought of Ben being with him.  She was so focused that she nearly missed her father getting up and start towards the exit.  It wasn’t until Luthor ripped his shirt open, exclaiming that the two of them needed to look at him, that she broke away from herself.

“You…in the culottes.  A word in private?”

i feel like it just doesn’t make that much sense for diego??? maybe i’m wrong but i feel like they could’ve figure out SO many cooler names for him. like, idk, the chopper?? the cleaver?? blade runner??? the SLASHER?????? sorry maybe these all suck but i feel like all of them would’ve been such cool nicknames for someone who’s main thing is they throw knives???

i understand why ben is the horror but look me in my goddamn eyes and tell me that “the kraken” wouldn’t have been a better nickname for him. please. i genuinely want to understand why they call diego the kraken 😭

i saw some people saying “ben’s power isn’t only tentacles so the kraken wouldn’t make sense” ok but do we literally ever see anything about him using his power for anything other than tentacles? or hear about him using it for anything other than tentacles?

Okay so i have NEVER (and i mean NEVER) watched TUA, but my wonderful and amazing friend @aroacebooknerd is a huge fan and quite genuinely 99.9% of what they’ve posted recently has been reblogs of people who are angry about the S4 ending and the character assassination of Five

so here’s basically what I know about season four (and TUA in general):

TUA fans: Oh boy! I can’t wait for the season 4 finale, we’re finally gonna get closure! I’m hoping all the characters will finally be happy and something with marigolds will happen! TUA director (i think): uhm actually no we’re going to give this practically cannon aroace character a love interest and make him a homewrecker! That’s what you guys wanted right? TUA fans: *unintelligible screeching and angry noises*

So heres what i know:

Marigolds?? Those are important for the ending for some reason

a man named Klaus who sets off my gaydar and smth abt him being a stripper? (He’s like my queen Dan wildes, pop off king)

Five (I I still don’t know why he’s named after a number?) is somehow like 75 but also 18

This woman named..uh I forget, but her actors name is Rita I think and apparently she’s like 34 and agreed to cheat on her loving husband (who’s five’s brother) with five. this is so potent with the stench of pedophilia. this is so not okay. you can’t just be like “oh but he’s 18 so he’s legal so it’s okay!” Like NO SIR THATS NOT OKAY

apparently they waited for fives actor to be like 18 before they forced him to kiss Rita or wtv??? like…that is illegal sir? or if it’s not it should be?? Wtf??

I saw a picture of the kiss that happened between them and I started genuinely BURSTING OUT LAUGHING. and not in the “haha that’s hilarious!” Way but in the “HAHA OMFG THIS IS SO NOT FUNNY AND STUPID” way. Like. that kiss looked so uncomfortable. you can TELL that five’s actor is uncomfortable. wtf guys.

the trans guys voice got deeper!! that’s so good for him!! we love seeing representation of trans people and their journeys through transitioning (or not if they don’t choose to, but the emotional journey they partake in)!!

we’re sad abt a woman named Sloan for some reason

S1 Allison and Luther (I have no idea who they are) was uncomfortable

one of the main guys has like a kill count of the entire population of the fucking planet. Apparently his powers are like..out of control and he killed everyone?? …how….i have so many questions and i know that none will be answered

theres like five main characters and they are all apparently siblings. So i guess SOMEONE was getting dicked down good

Things I would have liked to see in TUA season 4:

More of the spontaneous children (like how did the ending work?? There were supposed to be more of them)

All of the siblings being involved with the subway

(Esp bc all of the branding and marketing was centered around the subway and only two characters used it/knew about it. I was expecting so much more)

Diego and Lila enjoying being together and having a family???

Klaus learning about Ben/how did Klaus not know about Ben

More of season 1/season 2 Ben

An explanation for Jennifer and the squid???

Ending back into a post season 1 but same timeline universe (members with or without their powers)

More flashbacks to the team as kids (idk why but I love these. Sad LORE!!!)

Klaus having a bigger reaction to being buried alive (since we see how being locked in the mausoleum was very triggering for young Klaus)

Diego’s stutter returning when he was upset (a perfect opportunity with how the show ruined his marriage and relationship with Five. That would have been (even more) devastating for the viewer)

Ben in a plot that made sense

A build up to Ben/Jennifer (“I can’t stop thinking about you since we met” ???? The fuck you mean that was literally like yesterday)

Dave mention

Lila and Five just being really good friends. Before they ruined everything with the kiss, I really did like them as friends who were trying to help and comfort each other. It made Lila feel like part of the family and I think their dynamic works well together (PLATONICALLY)

Diego’s underwater/holding breath power (literally the whole reason he’s nicknamed the Kraken)
