#tb to Elsie Fest when Joey told me he was happy to see me. He remembered me because I was there the night the horny ox died in TTONYC and he asked me to read a letter from the horny ox to his daughter. He was like “oh my gosh! i know you! i gave you the letter! thanks for coming!”  and that is how Joey Richter became my best friend.

My week on the Oregon Trail...

aka the week Team StarKid put on a show in NYC and I saw 5/8 of their performances.

It’s hard to say which show was the best. They really did change things up in EVERY show I saw (and assuming the shows I missed). 

My favorite names for Jaime were a tie between Gurl, Please! and Brian Holden (Brian Holden?! That sounds like the name of a real asshole!) and then Brian coming out with McDoon at the beginning of act 2.

I have now gotten to see all the deaths live except Jeff (who tells me, I didn’t miss much).

I got to bring my mom, my uncle, a friend from my sibling support group, and my good friend Frank the bald guy and his wife. My friends who are already into Starkid also came. I’m glad I got to expose a few people to this world.

It never got old. Watching them do 90% of the same show, it never got stale. I don’t know if that means that my attention span is too good, or if they’re just that fun.

I missed Rachael EVERY SINGLE NIGHT when they were meeting and greeting. Mostly talked to Joey or Jeff. Sometimes the band if they stuck around because honestly Clark and Pierce are my faves.

Nick Lang is a precious, perfect person.

It was a treat to see it the night that so many of their friends came (Tyler, Lubo, Rae, Marty, Ali, etc). The names THEY wanted picked were epic and it’s too bad the folks on stage couldn’t hear them. “Hashtag Blessed, Egg, FujiFilm, Selfie Stick” fun times.

The entire week was very chill and relaxed and I didn’t feel ANY of that anxiety that I’ve previously felt about being around them at some past events.

Last night I was invited to the cast/crew party and it was possibly one of the most fun nights of my entire life. I’ve been to other parties of theirs, but not after spending a whole week with them, it was fun to kick back and hang out. drinks, magic tricks, and fast clap challenges... it was a grand time. Bonus getting to hang out with people who were not part of the cast and crew but were also invited. The Richters, Melissa Anelli, Ricky, and Darren.

I could easily get used to having everyone here all the time.

Post Starkid Depression is gonna hit SO hard any second now...

TRAIL TO HEDWIG (May 29)

fun city timez w/ threepwillow, feluriaan, vocalcannibal, itsgingertime and others!

we did fun things and ate fun foods!!! but this post is rly just about the shows themselves, largely in chronological order - I wanted to remember cool details, lol. so be duly wary of spoilers, but otherwise, read on!

TTO:

the theater was small and nice, like shoebox shaped. it was in a cool (figurative) shady (literal) neighborhood so we chilled in line with ten million other ppl and ate our sandwiches

Mother Trophy, Father Sir Shits-A-Lot, Daughter Brian Holden, Son Guy Fieri, Grandpa Captain Jack Sparrow

yes, the daughter was named brian holden - jaime heard it and said, “brian holden? sounds like a reeeaaal asshole.”

some of the Gone to Oregon lyrics were different, which some people predicted lol. as far as I can tell there were two changed lines:

you could go uptown and see CATS!/we wouldn’t blame you a bit

now we’ve got our names and we’re headed to the cherry lane/you could have seen hedwig/????

which was ironic bc this was the only tto show that didn’t overlap with hedwig! natch, darren was there. I was chillin in line for the bathroom before the show and peeped him outside the glass doors taking a picture of the outside of the building, hehe. emily said he was talking w/ joey’s parents at intermission, what a sweaty~ obv he dipped real quick afterwards but it was fun that he was there

The Grind was sO sloppy??? like good sloppy but also just all over the place, lol. jeff’s neck bandana flew off so he picked it up and just... continued using it? like waving it and doin twirly ribbon choreography I was like STOPPP. what fun

Pays to Be an Animal had a new tiny verse that was largely incomprehensible! right after the rapes the land just so he can... ate bit. so I asked corey abt it after the show and he said it was sooooomething like except the story of those goddamn lobsters/cornwallis took my wife from me/so I called on james madison’s men/to shove it up his aaace (ace being... ass)

another fun thing in Pays to Be an Animal was that he grossly exaggerated the pounds at the end? it was like 2000/20 in the YT version and that day it was like 566,000/10, ehe. on Sunday I’m sure it was 90000000000000/0.5

jeff said the buttons on my butt flap bit in a new weirdass sibilant seductive voice. it was so funny I was not expecting it

the intro to Dysentery World was a lot better, more explanation

in Dysentery World instead of animal masks like in the YT version they had POOP EMOJI masks

act II, ACTUAL BRIAN HOLDEN was dragged out instead of jaime good lorddddd. the theater was just screaming for like two minutes straight. he said, “I’m the child bride! let’s do it!” but joey shoved him back offstage and then jaime came out

so the father was Sir Shits-A-Lot... but imma just type out the bar scene dialogue for ya

Grandpa: “look, mr. shitty--”

Father: “it’s sir. I was knighted.”

Grandpa: “... but you still shit a lot.”

now just imagine a minute of howling laughter in between each line and you get the gist

overall, I was just losin it the whole time - I was just so tickled to be there live? and seeing the things? and seeing the jokes? I couldn’t stop laughing everything was just so funny, starkid crowds are just 100% There For It

stagedooring was fun, got me some signatures, exchanged A Sentence with clakr so

HEDWIG:

we almost panicked that we were NOT gonna get the lotto but through luck and collaboration we pulled it off whew. we were sitting orchestra right which was a new vantage point for us and one of the things I said before the show was “oh, we’re gonna get to see more of tommy!” and boy did we. anyway

immediately after Tear Me Down he had lipstick aaaall over his face and the entire top of the mic lol

like tto it was a little rough/not quite tight in the beginning. he did lots of pointing? stop listening to cooper anderson pls

overall he seemed to be a Sad Hedwig. and like, sadder rather than angry. obv he was angry in the angry parts but up closer I felt like more of what I saw was sadness and self loathing and disgust etc ;____; I still don’t know if that’s how his performance has evolved or if it was just an artifact of me being closer and being able to see that stuff for the first time

a lil detail I always love and just want to write down is the clickering clack of the beads and buttons against the car whenever hedwig leans down into the oven. I just love hearing it

the gummy bear chewing was especially obscene

as was thIS PART I already posted about it but I can’t express how ~affecting it was. I was physically lifting out of my seat and clutching at emily omg. and apparently he has CONTINUED TO DO IT so hopefully audio will surface at some point and hopefully the lord will have mercy on my dirtyass soul

he made the chris col-fur joke again heehe. we were speculating if he would make a tto joke (maybe a throwaway line abt being a child bride?) but he did not, alas

Wicked Little Town, pls. it’s really like a siren song, to tommy. obv darren is a very ~physical actor; and he sits up straight as hedwig but the way his breath rose and fell and his head moved to each side as he sang was just SO GOOD. and he did/does this little move at the end where he trails his hand up his forearm it’s sweet and also @_@

and how WLT is similar to and yet so different from Wicked Little Town Reprise, no thank u

being able to get a better look at tommy was awesome, we could see not only his change in posture but his facial expressions and everything. just the (apparent) ease with which he shifted from one to the other, seeing the physicality of it and how his shoulders rolled down, kill my entire ass

the short blonde wig + the short black dress is such a good Look, jesus fuckin christ I’m aaaall about that

when yitzhak spit in hedwig’s face it was SILENT except for one dude who, really loudly, just said “... SHIT.”

at Midnight Radio I would have loved to cry but I was a) p dehydrated b) having trouble breathing lol

overall: my problem with hedwig is that my contacts blur up all the time bc I don’t want to blink ever

there is an additional pair of drumsticks, just, set to the side now, for dumbass darren curtain call drum timez

I went up to the stage while emily got to the stage door. declined to pick up the tomato shards but I got a bunch of glitter!

at stagedoor, I was nervous the whole time abt making it to my train and then he finaaally came out - I didn’t get anything at the stage door last time so I wanted to get my playbill signed/exchange a few words

which went like this:

me: “thank you so much for such a wonderful show! we were here two weeks ago and planned a whole new trip to come back, because we love your performance so much”

darren: “thank you! look at you in your all white for the summer”

me, internally: a) ... thank you for commenting on my outfit instead of my mouth-words b) you’re wearing a fucking wool beanie so

me, externally, instead: “thanks! I’m white... in all ways...” (gesturing to my face area)

darren: ?????

(as in idk what the fuck he did at this point)

(dear lord)

me: “thank you again!”

me: runs the fuck outta there to catch my train leaving in my wake a trail of rainbow carnage

but I got my playbill signed and stage glitter and fun friend times and one funhappy show and one emotionalaffecting show and all was well
