BJW Jan. 4th 2017 Match Ratings: Atsushi Maruyama, Jaki Numazawa, Tatsuhiko Yoshino vs Hercules Senga, Tsutomu Oosugi, Shinobu * Daichi Hashimoto & Hideyoshi Kamitani vs Kazuki Hashimoto & Yasufumi Nakanoue ** Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, Ryuichi Kawakami vs Kazumi Kikuta, Takuya Nomura, Yoshihisa Uto **½ Abdullah Kobayashi & Masaya Takahashi vs Masahi Takeda & Takumi Tsukamoto ** Toshiyuki Sakuda vs Yuko Miyamoto **½ Brahman Kei, Brahman Shu, Ryuji Ito vs Heisei Gokudo Combi & Great Kojika *½ Isami Kodaka vs Takayuki Ueki ** Show Rating: 1/10 This was my first go around with a full BJW show. The show was recommended to me and since I know some names from AJPW and ZERO1 I gave it a shot. As you can see, I wasn’t very fond of it. You can read a brief overview below.
BJW is known for their crazy death matches which I’m usually not the biggest fans of, at least the ones I’ve seen. The show started and I was relieved it wasn’t all death matches top to bottom, but still it was a light-hearted comedy match, something else I’m not the most fond of. After that there was a fine tag match where the young boy is trying to prove his worth. It was simple and effective. I was pleasantly surprised by an appearance by Strong BJ in the next match. It wasn’t anything special but was a highlight of the show for me. This is more the type of stuff I generally like to see. I’ve seen Abdullah Kobayashi plenty in AJPW recently and I’ve seen enough. Oddly enough he is kind of charming in his own way. The match itself wasn’t all that bad I’m just not into soft punches then crazy blood spot. Make it look real, damnit! Tied for the match of the night was in fact a death match! A thumbtacks & pin one to be exact. You can tell all over the card that there are talented wrestlers here, they just enjoy this death match style. That’s what stops me from shitting on this show. It’s not like they CAN’T do traditional wrestling, it’s just not their passion and that’s fine. Outside of the crazy spots, I found myself into this one. Coming out of the intermission was a Heisei Gokudo Combi match who are tolerable on the lower card of an AJPW show but here I wasn’t at all into it. Again you can tell they’re good wrestlers and they get good reactions from the crowd, it’s just not my thing. The main event consisted of Isami Kodaka who is the big reason I checked this one out. I see him all over the place and am never fully impressed but I know he’s respected for these type of light tube death matches. Again, the theme of the night, this wasn’t for me. I just don’t understand death match psychology. Someone gets hit with a tube and sells it like death but if Kodaka breaks one over his head and no sells it, what’. s that mean? When his opponent does it to him, he sells so? After tubes get broken, the ref kicks the remains out of the ring. I understand they’re sharp and dangerous but you knew they were going to break before the match so why’d you allow the match to happen in the first place? Let the wrestler kick all that stuff out and make the story be that they don’t want to fall on it, not the other way around. Show ended with the two trying to out crazy each other. Fine.
So tonight I learned that BJW isn’t for me. The wrestling itself, when death spots and comedy weren’t being done, was actually very solid. These aren’t hack wrestlers, they just have a passion for doing something that I’m not into watching. I’d be interested in watching someone watch this and see their reactions. As for me, I’ll probably never watch one of these again.

Basara Pro Wrestling Trials: Tsutomu Oosugi vs. Hercules Senga (w/counsel Gouma Ryu)
So, it’s come to my attention that Basara’s been holding a bunch of Pro Wrestling Trials, in which wrestlers take each other to court for various offenses. Though I don’t watch a tremendous amount of this particular DDT sister promotion, I really couldn’t let these escape me without taking a look. Which was well worth my time, obviously.
Here, at Basara Vajara 55 Feast, we have Hercules Senga (wearing a truly iconic bow tie/suspenders/trunks combo) taking his former tag partner to court in hopes of getting him to stop teaming with new partner Best Stretchman V3.
Senga’s main argument was that Stretchman’s techniques were too dangerous - a point which he attempted to prove by bringing out several witnesses, including Isami Kodaka of all people, who had supposedly been adversely affected by Stretchman.
Oosugi, with counsel Gouma Ryu, countered this by bringing out Daichi Kazato (Stretchman’s alter ego), to magically fix all of Senga’s witnesses.
The whole thing broke down into a fight, which saw Oosugi and Senga briefly team to clear the ring…until Senga low blowed his former partner and rolled him up for a 3-count, which I suppose decided the court case as well.
Pro wrestling is wonderful.
