gatekeeper — tsukishima kei !
— tsukishima assures that he is not embarrassed of dating you, you think otherwise
Tumblr media
warning/s : fem! reader, misunderstanding 😁 & a small fight at the beginning, profane language, tinsy bit of angst, fluff & crack from the second half ‘til it ends
note : had this little idea while writing a kageyama drabble so they might be quite similar
Tumblr media
“just give up already”
y/n’s tip-toeing came to a stop. seriously? this was the 4th time this week! with an annoyed groan, she turns around, fists clenched, brows furrowed, and it looks as though a tick mark was formed on her forehead. behind her stood her oh so loving boyfriend, tsukishima kei, who somehow always catches her trying to sneak in the volleyball gym.
“oh c’mon kei! why won’t you let me watch your practice?!” tsukishima sighed, “we’ve talked about this” he grumbled, why does she have to be so stubborn?
“don’t talk like those romanticized, toxic boyfriends on wattpad!” y/n hits his arm, which barely does any damage to him, “and don’t act like them as well!”
tsukishima raises a hand to fix his glasses, “are you saying i’m toxic?”
“i never said that! i just said don’t talk and act like—”
“so you’re implying it?”
“well, you’re going to be if you carry on with that bullshit!” tsukishima grows silent and stares at y/n, who had seemed to be reaching the highest point of her annoyed meter, which would then slowly escalate into anger.
after a few seconds of silence, he spoke, “take these, don’t wait for me and go home. cool your head” in each of his hands were his hoodie and an umbrella, which he brought with him on the way to the gym incase it might rain before they’re able to go back to the locker rooms. with y/n giving no sign of taking it, he placed it on her foot and carried on walking past her.
“i don’t understand you” tsukishima comes to a halt, looking back almost immediately upon noticing y/n’s change of tone. crap, was i too harsh?
“why are you acting like that if you’re embarrassed of me?” he couldn’t tell whether she’s sad or angry.
“acting? acting like what? and what do you mean embarrassed?!” his tone immediately gave away his nervousness.
“in school or when you’re with someone else, you avoid and act like you don’t know me but when we’re alone, suddenly you’re taking care of me! make it clear whether you love me or not to save both our time because i am not about to start losing myself for a boy who can’t love me the way i deserve!” it’s clear that she wanted to say more so tsukishima stayed silent. “if you’re going to love me, at least be honest with me! am i embarrassing or not?!”
“of course not!”
“then why?!” it was a miracle that y/n was not crying nor shouting at the moment.
tsukishima fully turns his body this time, “what’s embarrassing is my explanation…” and the mood suddenly lightens.
“TSUKISHIMA, YOU BASTARD!” tanaka and nishinoya’s yelling made tsukishima sigh.
“you call me selfish but keep shimizu-senpai’s sister all to yourself” kageyama grumbles
tsukishima stands still. hands clasped together behind his back and head bowed down. he looks like a child getting a scolding, or how the the freak duo looks whenever daichi catches their slip ups.
nishinoya and tanaka kneels in front of the first year. head bowed down as if they were praising him, and that they are.
“on this day, we honor you. congratulations on getting a shimizu!” they say in unison.
“you’re overreacting” tsukishima simply says.
“nope, i, too, would congratulate you tsukki. no offense, but you’re not exactly the ideal boyfriend” yamaguchi says with a finger under his chin.
“mhm! so you better treat her right tsukishima! she’s like our little sister” sugawara’s smile does not look comforting at all.
“call me if you need help in buying gifts!” daichi volunteers happily.
“and me if you need advice!” asahi adds.
“why are you guys taking my job?” shimizu comments while giggling. “but, i do think that tsukishima is just right for my little sister” she turns to look at her sister who was now playing around with kageyama and hinata, “she’s as chaotic as those two, he’ll be able to handle her. so i trust that i won’t have to worry much?”
“of course” tsukishima didn’t seem like himself at the moment. his eyes seemed to have soften at the sight of his girlfriend. he smiled, though not too obvious.
“why are you smiling like a male lead in a drama?” tanaka teased. and though tsukishima hates expressing his emotions to his teammates, he certainly loves poking their annoyance scale, “because this is what it’s like to love and be loved”
“Why are you making it seem like kiyoko does not love me back! she does love me! right? right?” tanaka gave kiyoko hopeful eyes and received no response aside from her turning around.
“I’m not talking about platonic love”
“WHY YOU—“
“KEI!” apparently, while he successfully annoyed the second year, his girlfriend heard what he said and would definitely never let it go.
“when have you been so sweet?! love and be loved? seriously?!” she bounced up and down, hands on tsukishima’s shoulder for support.
“she’s no different from the freak duo, i’m afraid” sugawara comments and laughs along with the third years.
“but am i really that beautiful that you had to gatekeep me from your entire team?” she laughed, still bouncing, and tsukishima only stood there with his smile never seeming to fade.
“if that were me i’d be receiving his train of insults by now” hinata says, joining the rest of the team as they watched how tsukishima seemed to be a lot softer around y/n.
“you’re such a gatekeeper kei!” she teased, this time, she stopped bouncing and have started poking her boyfriend’s sides.
“that he is! how dare he gatekeep kiyoko-san’s sister?!” tanaka kneeled back down on one knee with a hand on his chest.
nishinoya followed suit, “and what’s annoying is that she reciprocated his love!”

return.
tsukishima kei x reader oneshot, fluff/angst, exes to lovers crossposted on ao3 as higashikatas.
his undoing first came in the form of a thick white envelope stamped in curlicues of golden ink.
SHIMIZU KIYOKO WEDS TANAKA RYUUNOSUKE! reads the stiff card inside and he allows a small smile to appear on his face, before opening his messages and congratulating them both. he won’t deny that he’s happy for them; they’re the only high school couple he knew that ever truly worked out. never mind the fact that it felt vaguely like a slap in the face when he thought about his own first romance.
now, kei’s thinking to himself that maybe he should have been a dick and not shown up. the wheedling and whining of all his ex-upperclassmen would have been preferable to the scene unfolding before his eyes right now.
it was stupid of him to not consider that you would be here too… but wasn’t that the point of the last seven years? the amount of time it had taken for him to forget about you felt pathetic in itself. the amount of time it took for all that work to be undone was even worse.
you were laughing. head tilted back, eyes crinkled and your hair cascading down your back. he doesn’t know why he’s surprised to see that it’s grown longer- a lot changes in seven years, he has to remind himself. you’re being twirled around by hinata, who’s own beaming face only seems to amplify your joy. the lighting hitting both of your faces made things worse. kei felt like a side character now- which he supposed he was now. the chapter about the two of you had long been shut.
he doesn’t know how long passes before the song comes to an end. hinata bows low over your hand, pretending to bite your finger instead of kissing it, and you both start giggling all over again. you glance away from hinata for a second, collecting your breath, and your gaze slides onto him.
it’s like time has stopped (as cheesy as it feels) and neither of you have changed and grown and matured; he’s still the sharp-tongued, short-tempered high school boy and you’re still the beautiful, perfect high school girl who would playfully place daisy chains in his hair before a game and grin when he took them off and tucked them protectively into his backpack. the same girl who intertwined hands with his during video games just to mess with him and crow over his loss. the same girl who kissed his swollen eyelids on the rare occasions he let himself cry. the same girl who told him you loved him every single night without fail.
your grin falters and the facade is broken. nodding in response to something kageyama is saying, you duck your head and slip away.
kei doesn’t blame you in the slightest.
the rest of the afternoon seems to pass like a blur. he vaguely remembers sugawara cackling about ennoshita being the one to catch the bouquet and yamaguchi hovering by his elbow for a few minutes talking animatedly before wandering off with yachi, until he ends up at a table alone watching everyone else on the dance floor.
“i know being a bitter asshole is kind of your trademark, but could you try to tamp it down a bit?” you side eye him while taking a sip from your drink, passing him an identical glass. “it’s a wedding. be nice. don’t scare the children.”
he’s not sure if he jolted with the surprise, but can you blame him? the last time you spoke was the five minute video call seven years ago when he’d ended the horribly optimistic and unrealistic long-distance relationship the two of you had vainly kept up almost half a year into college. the shitty wifi connection had done nothing to hide the wetness in your eyes and he’d stared at the blank screen for almost an hour afterwards trying to convince himself that he’d done the right thing.
compared to the last version of you he remembers, the you that is now coolly surveying him over the rim of your glass seems almost scarily calm. some of his thoughts must have shown on his face, because you sigh and almost roll your eyes before sitting down opposite to him.
“so what have you been up to?”
he scoffs. “really?”
“really.”
he fiddles with his cuff. “i graduated.”
you nod. “tadashi showed me pictures. your hair was longer.”
“yeah. i’m working at the museum now.”
“just like you’d always wanted,” you murmur, smiling. it doesn’t reach your eyes.
all i’ve ever wanted is you, kei wants to cry out. instead, like the coward he is, he manages a weak nod and watches you take another sip of your wine.
the silence stretches awkwardly and you make to get up, murmuring something about going to get another drink.
he can’t have that. he knows if you walk away now, he’ll never see you again, so he grabs your wrist desperately. “what about you?”
you stare at his hand, an indecipherable look in your eyes. “i graduated.”
“yamaguchi didn’t show me any pictures.”
“yeah. he and shoyo also made me block you from seeing them. they said i should let you die of curiosity while i moved on and that it was what you deserved for being a jerk.” your voice tapers off awkwardly and kei feels like he’s been dunked in an ice bath.
“you and hinata… are you…” he can’t bring himself to say it.
you raise an eyebrow. “this is none of your business, but no.”
“i know,” he says a little too quickly. “sorry.”
“i’m working at that firm, by the way,” you continue. “just like i-”
“-always wanted,” you both say in unison. you give him a faint smile and he tentatively loosens the grip on your wrist, moving to intertwine his fingers with yours. you don’t stop him.
he doesn’t make an effort to continue the conversation from there, terrified of ruining something and making you leave all over again. meanwhile, the party is slowly dying down- the speakers are blaring progressively less aggressive music, and most of the dance floor has split up from larger dance groups to couples swaying together in each other's' arms. he watches as your eyes follow tanaka and shimizu (except technically she’s a tanaka too now) smiling softly at each other in the middle of it all.
the last dance is announced, and kei clears his throat. “do you want to…?”
you turn back towards him, raising an eyebrow. “you don’t dance in public.”
“a lot changes in seven years.”
“fair enough.” you let kei lead you between the dancers, hand never leaving his, and curl your other one around his shoulder. his other hand finds itself gently on your waist, unsure of the exact amount of distance to be putting between the two of you. this brings another hint of a smile to your face, and you effectively close the gap. your head is almost leaned on his chest and he’s sure you can hear his heartbeat as you take a deep inhale.
“was there anyone else?” you ask suddenly, and he almost trips.
“just one,” he says carefully. “girl in anthropology named miyawaki all through junior year. and some one night stands. you?”
you hum. “engineering guy named nakamura for a year and a half. that was all.”
was he better than me? he wants to ask. handsomer? funnier? kinder? what was it that made you stay with him for almost two whole years? most of all, he wants to know why you broke up. apparently you’re thinking on similar lines, because you beat her to the question.
“so why did you end it with her?”
“why did you end it with him ?” he doesn’t mean to rebuff your question with another one- his defense mechanisms are kicking in.
you shoot him an unimpressed look. “why do you think?”
he nods, smiling slightly. “me too. i think.”
“crazy.” your smile reaches your eyes this time. “still in love with me after all this time.”
“how could i not be?” he shifts you closer to him, tucking your head under his chin and wrapping his hand tighter around yours.
“why’d you do it, then?” you mumble into his jacket.
“do what?”
“tsukki.” you graze his knuckle with a sharp nail tip.
he sighs. “it would’ve been hard. i was just trying to stop it before it got too hard.”
“selfish,” you mutter. “considering how it was harder for me without you.”
“it was harder for me too.” he swallows, holding you even closer. “and i’m sorry.”
you don’t respond, but he feels the hand on his shoulder curl tighter into the fabric of his jacket, and allows himself to smile a little.
“you still know me better than anyone else,” you say. “and we’re both never getting over each other.”
“you’re saying you want to…” he can’t finish the sentence, terrified of having misread the room horribly.
“yeah.” for the first time, he hears some nervousness leak into your voice. “maybe we had to grow apart before we-”
“-came back together,” you say together, him finishing your sentence for the second time that afternoon.
you tilt your head upwards, brushing noses. “and i know you better than anyone else too, tsukishima kei”
“can i kiss you?” he murmurs, hand coming up from your waist to cup your face gently. you don’t even respond, simply going up on your tiptoes to meet his lips.
seven years and two broken hearts and oceans of what-ifs and broken promises later, he’s still a boy in love with the same girl. if he imagines it just right, it’s exactly like your first kiss on the steps of the volleyball team’s gym, the warm summer breeze and bright stars above the only witnesses. like then, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him, the one thing he knows he’ll never get tired of.
neither of you notice your upperclassmen breaking out into frenzied whoops, money exchanging hands, pictures being taken. but none of that matters- because right here in your arms, he’s never felt more complete. when you pull away, he knows you, the only other person that knows kei more than anyone in the world, who knows exactly how he feels with a single look into his eyes, feels exactly the same way.
beaming like the sun itself, you kiss him again.

Matching Bracelets
Tsukishima Kei x Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— Summary: You surprise him with matching bracelets!!
— Tags/Genre: Fem!Reader | Fluff
— Warnings: None!
Tumblr media
"Close your eyes and open your hand." "...What are you going to do with me?" "Just do it!!"
Tsukishima reluctantly does as you ask, he closes his eyes and reaches out his hand to you.
"If you're going to put a toy cockroach in my hand again, I won't trust you anymore." "I-It's nothing like that!!"
With his eyes closed, he can hear you opening a drawer and rummaging inside it, as if you were looking for something. Less than a minute later, he hears your footsteps heading towards him, and soon feels something being placed in his hand.
"Okay, you can look now!”
He opens his eyes, and looks at his hand.
There was a bracelet with green polka dots of different shades, and on it there was also a small silver pendant in the shape of a dinosaur. Kei looks at you, and notices that you are showing him another bracelet, only yours was yellow and had a golden chicken-shaped pendant.
"What is that?" he asks in his usual monotone, which makes you pout.
"They're matching bracelets that I made myself!!! Do you like them??" you approach him, clasping your hands behind your back, a cheeky smile on your face.
"Why does yours have a chicken pendant?" "Duhhh, it's because chickens are the descendants of dinosaurs, I thought you were smarter than that, Kei!"
He looks at you in disbelief, almost laughing at your stupidity.
"You could have just made yours with another dinosaur, you know, no one will take you seriously with a chicken bracelet." says Tsukishima in his sarcastic tone, pointing to his yellow bracelet.
"You are clearly stringing me along!! Just reply if you liked it or not!” "Idiot, of course I liked it." his sincerity makes you blush slightly, making you play dumb to try and hide your sudden shyness.
"O-Of course you liked it! I am an expert at giving gifts after all." you let out a triumphant laugh, placing your hands on your hips.
Without you noticing, Tsukishima smiles almost imperceptibly, as he looks at the green bracelet he has already placed on his wrist.

“Tsukki, wait!” Yamaguchi’s voice echoed into the rain-soaked street, the downpour muffling his words to a mere whisper against the relentless pattering of raindrops on the cobblestone pavement.
“She’s such an idiot,” Tsukishima muttered under his breath, his annoyance palpable in the tightness of his voice as he followed your retreating figure, a lone silhouette against the cold, relentless rain. Yamaguchi had just relayed the latest news about your on-again, off-again boyfriend. The twitch in Tsukishima’s right eye, a clear sign of his irritation, was hidden by his black-rimmed glasses, but the tension in his body language was unmistakable.
He couldn’t believe you were storming out from the dorms into the darkness yet again.
An invisible force pulled him in your direction, but instead of a gentle tug, it was more like a high-speed collision. The more Yamaguchi detailed the fiasco with your so-called “Mr. Perfect,” the tighter Tsukishima’s fists clenched until his knuckles turned a ghostly white. When he finally released his grip, deep red nail marks were etched into his pale skin. He didn’t hear his friend’s confused questions; all he could hear was the ringing in his ears and the pounding of his own heart in his chest, like a desperate drum seeking his attention as he followed after you.
When he finally caught up to you, he reached out, his hand hovering just above your shoulder before he firmly turned you around to face him.
Your eyes were red and puffy from crying, a testament to the pain you were feeling, and your hand instantly rejected his touch, aggressively shrugging off his hold.
“Are you seriously thinking about taking him back?” His voice cut through the thundering rain, raised just enough to be heard over the downpour. You scoffed in disbelief, tightening your grip on the baby pink umbrella, trying to recompose yourself.
“And what’s it to you, huh?” you snapped, your voice wavering with emotion as you lifted your chin defiantly.
If this day could get any worse, it had to involve seeing his annoyingly, fault-finding face. He always acted with judgment and you knew he looked down on your every mistake. And what made it worse was that his opinion always spoke some cut-throat truth you couldn't swallow.
Now here he was, sticking his nose into your business and voicing his input.
“You just don’t get it, do you?” His eyes narrowed, his voice dripping with disdain. “It’s pitiful.”
His t-shirt clung to his body, soaked through, but the heat of the moment kept the shivers at bay. You were infuriating, and he knew the feeling was mutual.
So why did he feel compelled to chase after you?
He should be sneering at your stupidity. Yet, here you were, crowding his thoughts, his vision, everything.
His insults only fueled your anger, the words cutting deeper than you wanted to admit. Yet, beneath the rage, a sliver of fear crept in—fear that he might be right. It was the unspoken truth that gnawed at you, the one everyone else probably thought but never dared to voice. But Tsukishima, with his sharp tongue and piercing gaze, had no such reservations.
If Tsukishima excelled at one thing, it was his uncanny ability to read you like an open book. He knew you too well, his eyes always catching the smallest, most insignificant details that he would mercilessly call out. Every comment was a well-aimed dart, hitting precisely where you were most vulnerable. It was infuriating how effortlessly he could unravel you, laying bare your insecurities with a few well-chosen words.
You clenched your fists, feeling the sting of his remarks, the heat of your anger battling the cold edge of your fingertips. His words echoed in your mind, a relentless reminder of the truths you tried to bury. Despite the fury blazing in your chest, you couldn't shake the nagging thought that he saw you more clearly than anyone else ever could. And that realization, more than his biting words, left a pit in your stomach.
The truth made you want to scream out into the looming darkness.
“Pitiful?” you questioned as your feet stepped down the curb, “if I’m so pathetic, then leave me be. Go project your judgment onto someone else other than rubbing it in my fucking face” you spat out harshly.
You didn’t want to deal with him tonight, not when you felt the weight of his words slowly sinking into your pores. You turned around to flee, but Tsukishima’s voice stopped you in your tracks.
“Wait.”
You paused but didn’t turn back. His voice, though steady, carried an intensity that made your heart race—a quiet before the storm that left you both anxious and drawn in.
“Why do you care so much?” you mustered, your voice cracking slightly as you tried to stand your ground. When there was no response to be heard, you hesitantly turned around once more.
And the sight was maddening.
His blonde locks, usually slightly short, now stretched longer down his forehead, the rain streaming down his face. Although his whole body was soaked from head to toe, his expression remained unchanged. He looked on toward you, eyes darkened and burning holes in your body. His head tilted slightly as if he was trying to piece together what you were thinking—or maybe, reanalyzing his own.
“Tsukishima, why do you care?” you demanded once more.
Maybe it was the curiosity that urged you to repeat yourself; maybe it was the way you’ve never seen the six-foot-two man in front of you look so—disheveled.
He opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. Instead, he took a step closer, almost unconsciously, as if he didn’t even know what he was doing. Those golden-brown eyes burned with a mix of frustration and something else you couldn’t quite place. Your heart raced as your breath escaped in a long, slow huff through your nose. Your glazed eyes locked onto his, watching tiny droplets slide down his glasses and cling to his long lashes. The heat between you was palpable; the rain felt like gasoline, fueling the raging fire.
“Why do I care?” he whispered, his voice barely audible as his gaze fixated on your lips. It was as if he was echoing your words, distracted by the movement of your mouth as his eyebrows furrowed.
‘Because I burn with emotions that you sear into my whole being’
“Because you’re aggravating,” he seethed through gritted teeth, his frustration evident in the sharp edge of his voice. Yet, despite his irritation, his gaze remained fixated on your lips.
You felt the intensity of his gaze, a magnetic pull that seemed to draw every fiber of your being towards him.
But just as quickly as the moment had built, Tsukishima pulled back, his expression hardening once more. His jaw clenched tensely, taking a step back while his gaze shifted, trying to focus on something else. The uncertainty still lingered in the narrow space between you.
“Just forget it,” he spoke under his breath. Turning on his heel, he walked away, leaving you standing there, frozen and stranded for answers.
You watched him retreat, the distance between you growing with each step. Your heart pounded in your chest, a tumult of emotions circulating inside you. You thought he was leaving for good as the breath you exhaled was shaky.
But then, he stopped—standing there for several aching seconds.
His gaze shifted among the surrounding objects as if building a barrier to contain his internal uncertainty. He swallowed the growing lump in his throat, the weight of his conflicting emotions settling heavily in his stomach. Each thought rushed through his mind like a relentless torrent, creating a storm of confusion and frustration.
He couldn't pinpoint exactly why he felt this way, why he cared so much.
The analytical part of his mind tried to dissect every possible reason, but the emotions swirling inside him defied logical explanation.
He shouldn't have followed you out here.
He wanted to escape the turmoil, to drown out the noise in his mind.
 “—Fuck it,” he muttered.
And something inside him snapped.
He turned back and closed the distance between you in a few long strides; his cold hands cupping your face.
Before you could muster a word, his lips came crashing onto yours.
The kiss was fierce, filled with all the pent-up frustration and anger. His lips moved against yours with a desperate urgency, as if trying to convey all the things he couldn’t put into words. You responded in kind, caught up in the whirlwind of emotions. Your hands instinctively found their way to his soaked shirt. You gripped the fabric tightly as if trying to anchor yourself in the storm that was Tsukishima.
At that moment, the precarious line of his loathing finally broke.
The intense curiosity that had simmered beneath his animosity surged to the forefront. He was engrossed by a burning desire to understand the root of it all.
Why did you consume him entirely?
The need for answers outweighed his self-imposed boundaries, and he crossed the line he had sworn never to.

Taste Like Strawberries
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMAGINE: TASTE LIKE STRAWBERRIES ~ TSUKISHIMA X READER GENRE: FLUFF cw: not proof read. use of 'girlfriend'. tsukishima being a simp. slight pda. established relationship. **************
Lip Glosses is your favorite makeup accessory. Bonus points if they are flavored lip glosses. You had a collection of different flavors. Cherry, guava, mango, pineapple, mint, anything that really smelled good.
You had about every flavor… except for one.
As you looked at the pink bottle with the red top, you realized that you did not have a strawberry flavor lip gloss. You were a bit bewildered at yourself after realizing this. So what was just supposed to be a simple convenience store run to grab a few snacks turned out to be a bit more.
Grabbing a couple of lip gloss tubes, you walked up to the counter to purchase all your items.
It wasn’t until a couple of days later that you would actually use it. If only you knew what effect it would have on your boyfriend.
Getting ready for school, you spotted the pink tube on the corner of your desk. Your face lit up, finally having the opportunity to try it on. Opening the fresh tube, you revel in the sweet smell of strawberries. After applying a thin layer of gloss over your lips, you create a ‘pop’ sound. You were happy that you chose this tube, because not only did it smell good, but you really loved the texture.
Throwing the tube into your school bag, you start to finish getting ready for the rest of your day.
You were pleased to see the tall blonde man as soon as you stepped out of your house. He was standing a couple feet away from your front door. Hand in his phone, scrolling mindlessly while waiting for you.
His head snapped up when he heard the front door open. “Took you long enough.” He says, shoving his phone back into his pocket.
“Oh hush, I did not take that long.” “School starts in twenty minutes.” “And we’re only ten minutes away. We’ll be fine.”
Tsukishima slightly scoffs, “what if I wanted to stop and get something?”
The both of you started walking towards the direction of school. “I already got that covered.” You say reaching blindly around in your bag.
Tsukishima looks at you in amusement as you struggle to grab the object you were looking for. Tired of waiting, he grabs onto the back of your bag and opens it himself.
“Hey, I could do it!” You say trying to pull away from him, but his strength was preventing you from doing so.
“You were taking too long.” “Ugh, you’re so impatient.” You start dragging your feet dramatically and he only rolls his eyes. “And you’re so dramatic.”
“Mean. Anyway, it’s the only drink there.” You tell him. He immediately finds the plastic container and he pulls it out. “Strawberry milk.” He states, a tiny flicker pulling at the corner of his lips.
He reaches around his bag and pulls out a drink as well. “I actually got you this.” He says handing you your favorite drink.
Your face lights up and your heart melts at his kindness.
“Awe, thank you Kei! You’re so sweet.” You bounce up, and place a short kiss on his cheek.
The fragrance of strawberries immediately hits his nose, causing his eyebrows to scrunch together. He was wondering where that smell came from. Obviously it had to come from you. So that’s why he bent down to get closer to your face.
Once Tsukishima is at eye level with you, he starts to examine your face. Your eyes widen at the sudden intrusion. It really wasn’t like him to do something like this out of the blue. And you start to wonder if you did something wrong… or maybe he was about to tease you.
His eyes scan over your face, wondering what was different. It wasn’t a bad difference. No, he enjoyed this difference… and he was starting to crave just a little bit more.
Finally, his lips landed on your glossy lips. They were tinted pink, most likely from the gloss, and if he focused on them, he could smell that strawberry.
“Did you get a new lip gloss?” He asks and your heart leaps at his question.
You didn’t think he would notice the small change, but everytime he did your heart would skip a beat and you would fall harder for him.
Your cheeks warm up, and you nod. “Yeah. Do you like it?” “You should wear it more often.” He answers and can only take that as a yes.
He stands up straight again, allowing you to finally calm down your racing heart.
“Oh, look! We’re here. See, it didn't take long at all.”
You didn’t even realize that you were standing in front of the school.
“I’ll see you before practice?” You ask, starting to walk ahead of him.
You didn’t even realize that he was zoned out.
It was only until you asked him about practice was able to snap out of it. “Oh? Hmm. Yeah. I’ll see you later.” He says, now walking past you. His hand lands on top of your head, ruffling your neat hair as he walks by.
“Hey!” You shout with a pout, your own hands landing on top of your hair to fix it. Tsukishima smiles at your reaction, but of course, he wouldn’t let you see that.
As the school day droned on, Tsukishima found himself unable to focus in class. He kept zoning out, thinking about random things that he liked. He liked a lot of things. Volleyball for starters, strawberry shortcake, anything strawberry really, dinosaurs, teasing you, how your hair looks really pretty, or how you always think of him. His thoughts always tend to land on you. Oh, and your new strawberry lip gloss.
He really couldn’t get it out of his mind. It just smelled so good. And he honestly started to wonder if it tasted just as good as it smelled.
“Tsukishima.”
He’s snapped out his daydreams when his teacher calls out his name. “Are you paying attention?”
Tsukishima nods his head and apologizes. The teacher thinks nothing of it and continues with the lesson.
It felt like eternity until the last bell rang. At this point Tsukishima was feeling rather aggravated and annoyed. He was blaming you that he couldn't focus at all today. You and that ‘stupid’ strawberry lip gloss.
Tsukishima continues to stomp his way towards the volleyball gym. He immediately spots you, standing right in front of the vending machine.
Your back was turned to him, as you were slightly leaned over to get a closer look at your reflection. He squints his eyes, seeing what you were doing. You were once again, applying a layer of lip gloss.
“Oi, idiot.” He calls out, causing you to stand up straight. You close the tube, immediately putting it away.
“I didn’t even do anything this time.” You say while turning around to face your tall boyfriend. Your hands were now placed on your hips as you glared at him with a small pout on your lips.
His eyes flicker down to your lips. He didn’t even have it in him to scold you anymore. All he wanted to do was get the answer he was craving since the beginning of class.
He doesn’t respond to you. All he does is grab onto your wrist and drag you into a more secluded place. “Where are we going?” You ask him once he stops. “Just shut up.” He says before leaning down and grabbing the sides of your face with his hands.
You were forced to stand on your tiptoes, as his lips molded with yours. Your own hands holding onto his biceps for more balance.
You let out a startled gasp when you feel his tongue run against your own lips. Successfully tasting the lipgloss he was thinking about all day.
He was happy to report that it did indeed taste as good as it smelled.
He didn’t want to pull away. Instead, he pulls you in closer- deepening the kiss as your chest was now pressed against his.
Unfortunately, you needed air. So you forcefully pull away from him. Both of your lips were a bit swollen.
“What was that for?” You ask. You weren’t complaining, but you knew that Tsukishima wasn’t one for PDA.
“Do I need a reason to kiss my girlfriend?” He asks back.
You only stare at him, pressing for an actual answer.
With a defeated sigh he crosses his arms, “I wanted to taste your lipgloss.” He mutters and a smile forms on your face. “Well, did you like it?” You start to tease him. “Were my actions before not enough?”
A blush forms on your cheeks just thinking about the kiss you just shared with him. Maybe you should wear this lip gloss more often if it got this reaction out of him.
“Okay, okay.” You state before standing up on your tiptoes again. Only to place a small kiss on his lips- giving him the satisfaction of strawberry flavor again. “You should get ready for practice now.”
He didn’t want to, but he knew that he needed to start getting ready for practice. If he didn’t, he would be scolded not only by the coach, but by you as well.
“Fine, just one more kiss though.”
“Okay, just one more.” You say and he doesn’t even hesitate to pull you closer again to place his lips on yours again.
Right before he can deepen the kiss, you pull back. “There’s your kiss. Now go to practice.”
Tsukishima sighs at your words, but straightens up. “Fine, but I better see you after practice.”
You laugh at his words, “when do you not?” His eyes narrow at you, but it doesn’t phase you. Instead, you just wave at him before leaving for your own activities.
Bonus:
Tanaka couldn’t really place it, but something looked different about Tsukishima.
He kept eyeing him up and down- and it wasn’t discreet.
Tsukishima could feel his eyebrow twitch as he felt the stare.
He finally had enough and turned to him. “Do you need something?”
Tanaka’s eyes widen, and it finally clicks.
“ARE YOU WEARING LIP GLOSS?” He shouts, gaining everyone's attention.
“Oh my gosh, you totally are!” Nishinoya shouts as well when he gets a closer look at him.
Tsukishima angrily wipes away the gloss from his lips on the back of his hand. And his only thought was that he could blame you. Why didn’t you let him know before you left? You obviously saw it.
“I’m not wearing lip gloss. It’s not mine.” He says, only confusing the boys in the gym.
“Then whose is it?”
Tsukishima froze. He hasn’t exactly told the team of you.
“Probably (y/n)’s.” Yamaguchi speaks up, causing Tsukishima to glare at him. Of course, he knew.
“Huh? (y/n). From class two?”
Tsukishima doesn’t answer. He didn’t really want to discuss the topic any further.
“Wait… you have a girlfriend?!” Tanaka shouts, a bit shocked that he is able to get one.
The boys started giggling and started to tease the tall blonde.
“Awe, someone’s in love.” “Maybe you should ask for their lipstick next.”
Little remarks and quips kept coming his way.
“At least I’m able to get a girlfriend.” He says before walking away from the rowdy boys.
The mood began to sour as the group of boys realized that he was right. Tsukishima had a girlfriend, and they didn’t.
The seniors chuckle while watching their underclassmen.
“Let’s focus on practice please!” Diachi finally yells, snapping them back into reality.

Tsukishima Kei
"Ooohhh I was thinking about reader! who works at the same museum as Kei (timeskip) and their coworkers and are forced to work together and were an annoying thorn in Kei’s side (obv pookie is in denial duh) 😒" -@livelovelaughgeto
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________
"I think the easiest thing is for everyone to pair off and work on different sections together, it'll go by faster."
The museum had just gotten a new shipment of decorations that needed to be up by the weekend. Your manager was pairing everyone off to work together so it would go by faster.
"Tsukishima and y/n, you guys can take over the herbivore exhibit."
You glanced at him to see him roll his eyes and nod silently.
You recalled your first day, where he was supposed to show you around and teach you everything. You two had hit it off at first, cracking jokes and having genuine conversation. You remembered how at first, it was his eyes that captivated you. The beautiful gold reflecting in the light was enough to make you smitten. His snarky comments that made you giggle, he was never explicitly mean to you. It was after the few weeks you two shared that he grew distant and cold, bitter towards you as if you had done something wrong.
It hurt at first, you longed to hear his voice again in a tone that didn't convey pure distaste towards you. Every time you walked past him, you waved, crackled a smile, tried anything to get his attention, but he never reciprocated anything, so you gave up.
You weren't sure what his problem was, but today was the day to find out.
· · ────────────────── ·𖥸· ────────────────── · ·
Walking side by side with the boxes of decorations in our hands, you were able to take in his height, he had to be at least six feet tall. It was quiet, only the sounds of feet shuffling, you trying to keep up with his pace as he walked ahead of you.
"Do you have any plans this weekend?" You were looking up at him, trying to break some of the ice. To nobodies surprise, he only side eyed you before responding with a sharp "No."
You nodded, "Me either," to which he said nothing. While you didn't expect him to immediately open up to you, you were waiting for some sort of explanation as to why he's been nothing but rude to you. He never bothered to say anything more than he had to, never speaking unless spoken to, he was never the type to ask how somebodies day was or what their plans were for the weekend.
· · ────────────────── ·𖥸· ────────────────── · ·
Unboxing all of the packages, you tried to figure out which one of you would do what. "Maybe I can put together the new fossils and you can hang up the wall art..?" You looked at all the fossils that had to be put together. He spared a glance in your direction, "Sure, you're too short anyways." His tone only showing annoyance, he picked up some of the paintings and walked off without a word, looking at where the best place to put it up would be.
Sitting alone on the floor, you stared at the instructions that made absolutely no sense, trying to figure out how to put the thing together.
"How is this supposed to go together?" You mumbled under your breath, you were still stuck on just the leg.
"What are you doing?" Tsukishima asked with that judgmental tone. The first time he's ever initiated a conversation with you. "I'm trying to put together the new Parasaurolophus we have." It felt humiliating to have to explain yourself.
"So why is it's leg attached to it's arm?"
Jaw hung open, you looked at the monstrosity you accidentally created, he was right.. you somehow put the arm into the leg. You were so caught up in your own daze that you didn't notice exactly how wrong it looked until someone else pointed it out.
"Move." He said, pushing you to the side and sitting down fixing it, taking it apart to put the right parts together. Now standing over him, you watched his face contort to what appeared to be only pure focus. He bit his lip while reading the instructions, "They're quite clear, how did you manage to screw it up so bad?" The utter confusion in his voice only hurt you even more.
"I-I don't know.." You were stumbling over your own words in shame by now, what was meant to be a time to put up simple decor turned out to be a moment of pure humiliation. He turned and looked up at you, his golden eyes meeting yours. It was as if he looked into your soul for only a second before turning back with a huff.
It instead seemed that now the roles were reversed, he was the one putting together the new displays while you put the decorations up. It was a nice silence, the warm kind that you don't ever seem to think twice about, before he spoke up, "Do you even know how to put those up correctly?" You sighed and looked at him from across the room. "Do you want to do everything?" There was a hint of sadness in your voice this time, something he hadn't picked up previously. "I'm just making sure I don't have to go behind everything you do to fix it." You looked at him with your arms crossed, "Why are you acting like I'm such a thorn in your side?"
He jumped a little by the frustration in your voice. "What are you talking about?"
You scoffed, looking at him in disbelief, except he didn't even notice because his back was still turned against you. "You won't even look at me," You felt a little edge in your voice now, unable to hide how frustrated you had been this whole time, "And all you do is criticize everything I do. Why don't you help me instead of judging me?"
He finally turned to look at you and realized your face had turned a slight tint of red and there were tears starting to cloud your eyes. "I've been nothing but nice to you, Tsukishima, yet every time you see me, all you do is act like I've done nothing but wronged you."
He felt too embarrassed to look you in the eyes, his head hung low and his ears were red. "I'm sorry." He mumbled.
"No, fuck you, Tsukishima."
You left, going home early, claiming to have a stomach bug.
He didn't see you again after that, he walked by your usual areas, the department you usually lingered around, but he never saw you.
Days turned to weeks, turned to months. He still hadn't seen you, until one day he briefly spotted you around the corner.
He ran to catch up to you, "Y/n." he called, his voice raised slightly higher than normal. You stopped in your tracks to look back at him, surprised he had managed to notice you this time. "Where have you been?" he was searching your eyes as if the answer lied beneath your surface.
"Around."
"Where? I've looked everywhere for you."
"Why were you looking for me?" Your brows furrowed.
"I just wanted to apologize."
"You already did."
Your voice was shallow, missing the usual friendly tone you always had. It was enough to make him wince as if your words caused him physical pain.
"Y/n, listen, I'm sorry." You could see he was genuine, something new for him. "I thought you were too busy ignoring me, now you're the one apologizing?" You knew your words were cutting deep, a part of you hoped they were. You wanted him to feel the hurt and confusion you did.
You didn't let him find a response before you walked off, letting him wallow in the heavy emotions in the air.
· · ────────────────── ·𖥸· ────────────────── · ·
You were walking home, the easier choice as opposed to taking the bus due to how crowded it would get, when you heard footsteps behind you. Turning around, you saw none other than Tsukishima, again.
"Are you following me home?" You looked at him with horror, "No, y/n, just let me explain." He let out a small laugh when he saw how horrified you were. "How did you know where I was going?"
He rolled his eyes, "You never noticed we always leave in the same direction after work?" a brow raised, genuinely surprised you hadn't.
You shook your head, embarrassed by your accusation.
"Y/n, please let me explain." He started, you only nodded while watching your feet as you walked.
"I was embarrassed." He spoke low, as if he was worried someone would hear. This is what caught your attention. "Of talking to me? Being my friend?" He shook his head, "It's hard to explain." It was your turn to roll your eyes now.
"Either explain or I go straight home." You felt annoyed by the constant circles you two were going in. He'd be nice and let you in, only to randomly shut down and ignore you. It was a loop that you weren't sure would end.
"I like you, y/n, and I don't know how to cope with that." There was a shake in your voice, his eyes refusing to meet yours. "What?"
"Why didn't you just say so?"
"What was the point? We're colleagues, it's awkward." He was trying to brush it off, play it off as if he didn't feel like his soul was being chipped away every minute that went on without you reciprocating it.
You took a deep breath before deciding how to respond, the sound if your inhale only made him more nervous, unsure if you were gonna tell him off and leave him standing alone on the sidewalk.
"What if I said I liked you too?" This felt silly to say, it felt like you were in high school again, confessing your crush to another boy. You knew your cheeks were red, blushed by how nervous you felt.
He stopped in his tracks, slowly turning to face you.
"Just because you like me doesn't mean you treat me like you hate me, Tsukishima." You faced him, looking up at him for any sort of window into his thoughts. His face was a similar shade to yours, was he just as nervous?
"I know, which is why I'm sorry. I want to make it right." He sounded formal, sincere, this was him trying to prove that he meant it.
"How?" You were curious as to what his plans were.
"Can I take you out tonight?"
"Where?"
"Wherever you want."

Tsukishima Kei: Dog Damn
Fandom: Haikyuu!! — [ Masterlist ]
Summary: ~1.8k, fluff
• Tsukishima and his canine give a whole new meaning to how dogs take after their owners.
Warnings: Timeskip spoilers, 2 curses
>>>>——————————>
Tumblr media
There's that saying of how dogs take after their owners, it was one Tsukishima would always scoff at. Even when he found this yappy puppy alone in the rain for the second day in a row with only a cardboard box labelled 'Please Adopt Me' and reluctantly gave in.
That's how that dumb saying came to light, the fluffy thing growled and yapped at his older brother when he became annoying. When his Karasuno teammates heard about the adoption they wanted to meet the fellow, only for him to be particularly vocal around Hinata and Kageyama. Yamaguchi was probably one of the few the pup actually liked.
This enigma continued through to the Sendai Frogs, now bigger and older, his faithful companion reflected his feelings to individuals. Much like Tsukishima, the Shikoku grew to like individuals with time much like his owner, but there's always a fun exception.
It came with a bark, one that was louder that most Keis' dog would express during their evening walk, and to his surprise it was directed toward you.
You who was merely writing the signage for the day outside of your coffee shop. Still you didn't seem startled, while crouching you attempted to beckon the offender over but he merely growled in reply. His master seemed to laugh however, pulling down his headphones with a smirk.
"Nice try, it won't work though."
"Is that a challenge?" You stood to meet the smug smirking blonde, the dog a little more settled as his master conversed.
"He's stubborn."
"Ah a hunting breed. What's his name?" Came your observation, tilting your head at the canine which only snorted in reply.
"Rekkusu."
You paused for a moment, no doubt the man in question had intended for the delivery to be cool, but the ongoing silence made him shift uncomfortably with brows furrowing.
"As in Tyrannosaurus Rex?" You'd expectantly noted, crossing your arms with a bemused expression.
"Yeah, and what about it?" Tsukishima shot back, a mild glare in place but you only dismissed his attitude with a smile.
"It's cool, suits the little guy."
"Little guy? I suppose your lack of perception means your customers get better value for money."
"Why do you think we're so popular? See you around Rekkusu-chan and owner!" With a smirk you waved politely, before entering the coffee shop.
The ‘All Dogs Welcome’ sign framed prominently in the window.
———
Now that you'd spoken, you noticed him nearly everyday, he followed the same route in the mornings and evenings with Rekkusu in tow. This morning you awaited his passing, racing out to stop him in his tracks with a greeting bark from the dog which left you glaring.
"Back for more?"
"I come baring gifts this time." Came your proud tone, placing a Puppuccino before the dog who arrogantly waited for you step back at least 4 paces prior to sniffing it much to the owners’ amusement.
"Wow, he really doesn't like you."
"Yet. He doesn't like me yet." You replied with renewed determination.
“I’m Tsukishima Kei, and I should probably know the name of the person trying so hard to win over my dog…”
“(L/n) (Y/n). Have a nice walk guys.” A soft smile graced your lips upon noticing Rekkusu eating the treat, a small victory you’d claim (though you hoped the blonde hadn’t noticed your fist pump when walking inside).
It was only when you returned from your break that afternoon did your happy mood get disgruntled, by yen sitting on the counter no less.
"Tips? What kind of arrog—"
"No not a tip! Some smug tall guy said it was payment." Yui quickly rushed to calm you with hands defensively waving in panic.
Only a brief second passed, looking to Yui with a deadpan gaze.
"Blonde?"
She nodded.
"Big dog?"
"Uh-huh." Yui curiously responded.
"Glasses?"
A hum of agreement.
"Dickhead."
"Yes! That's him!"
"No I mean, he's not a dickhead. He just didn't have to pay, I'm trying to win over his dog..."
"(L/n)-san, what?" Her previous excitement dwindled, her cause for concern now persisting.
"Nothing, nothing. Guess he's a kind person, but that doesn't mean the challenge ends here."
———
Much to Tsukishimas’ disinterest, it didn’t end. Despite the man only nodding in acknowledgement and diverting his gaze, you made a point to wave whenever you saw him. If you had the time you’d also come to greet Rekkusu who remained as hostile as ever - though you only need take two steps back for him to devour his treats now.
You even caught Tsukishima on one of his training runs, when he’d stopped to check his statistics you’d handed him a bottle of water without a word, just a knowing smile.
Then came a time you were actually on a break during one of your evening shifts, you were outside with a hot drink enjoying the autumn breeze when he’d awkwardly stood at your table. Rekkusu alerted you to their presence instantly, a solid bark in play but his masters’ demeanour was what perplexed you most.
“Would you mind if I joined you? I was going to get a coffee anyway…”
“Sure Tsukishima, do you want me to watch Rekkusu whilst you grab one?” Even if your request was a whimsical one, you were both offended and amused by the growl you received.
“He’s still y’know, stubborn.”
Nevertheless, the blonde rejoined your table with a coffee and pastry in hand - one he slid over to you.
“Uh, your colleagues said you liked this one. Dunno how you work with them though, they sure squeal a lot.”
“Huh they do? Well either way, I can’t accept this bu—“
“You told them not to let me pay for his treats anymore, but I owe you for them. You don’t have the option to refuse right now.” Kei had said it so bluntly that you couldn’t even argue, meekly accepting with another thanks.
You’d actually conversed with him then. You’d found out he was on the Sendai Frogs volleyball team and worked at the museum in the city. In exchange he’d learned about you and your coffee shop, and of course that he’d adopted Rekkusu during his third year of high school at Karasuno. By the end of your break, you felt closer in a way.
Rekkusu didn’t bark at you when they left.
———
From then it seemed whenever you’d seen the pair, Rekkusus’ barks seemed friendlier and his tail wagged upon seeing you. Occasionally he’d pull Tsukishima toward you as you knelt to offer a signature Puppiccino.
“I hate this.”
“I have successfully used the power of Pavlov~”
“It’s called bribery.” Tsuki mockingly interjected.
“Either way, I’m still winning this challenge.”
“Your self-issued challenge. This has nothing to do with me.”
“Luckily your approval doesn’t matter to me, only Rekkusus, isn’t that right boy?” Came your melodious tone, the canine barking excitedly.
“Traitor.” It was muttered begrudgingly, but you continued conversation regardless.
“Good luck with your new exhibition today, if you can please take a picture of it and show me!”
“Instead of making me come back here, would I be able to send it to you by phone?”
“My contact details?” The surprise was obvious, but Kei remained blunt and composed with his usual bit of sarcasm.
“Ideally yeah. Here’s mine.”
Yet, you’d spoken often enough to know about his workplace and vice versa, so you suppose this was the natural next step in friendship.
———
Tsukishima wouldn’t normally bring anyone along to your café but he’d reached a crossroads, a block that he couldn’t surpass without an old teammate it seemed.
“So… why are we here?”
“Because it allows dogs.” Tsukishima breathed, way too nonchalant for even him, which only left Yamaguchi asking further questions.
“Yes, but we’ve always gone for walks.”
“I just need you to see something…” The blonde seethed, holding the door open for his partner to enter.
“Ah hey Tsukishima, Rekkusu~” A gentle pat was given to the fluffy boy with a wagging tail, and only then did he happily whine at you.
“Hi (L/n), this is Yamaguchi. A friend from elementary school.”
The freckled man only waved at you with a bright smile, Tsukishima gave their order and the trio went to be seated.
“Nice to meet a friend of Tsuki.”
“…Tsuki?”
Tsukishima waited until you’d left, then turning his attention to his friend who understood the bewilderment. “So?”
“Rekkusu!” Tsukishima waited expectantly for Yamaguchi to finish. “They pet him… And he didn’t mind!”
“I know.”
“That’s really weird, have you known them long?” The shy man considered carefully, Tsuki flicking from Rekkusu to answer honestly.
“A month or more, I see them nearly everyday in passing but we’ve only spoken properly a few times.”
“Ah… Tsuki do you li—“
“No.”
“Right.” Yamaguchi radiated nonchalance, to the point Kei doubted his own denial, but his friend only looked to the pleased dog as if he portrayed Tsukishimas’ feelings better than the namesake.
“I have (L/n)s’ contact, maybe it’d be worth bringing them to the museum at some point?”
“Maybe, would a walk with Rekkusu be too committing?” Yamaguchi taunted.
“Shut up!”
———
Now you’d never have considered the museum to be daunting but when Tsukishima asked you to meet him here you accepted, currently queuing up for tickets.
“What are you doing (L/n)?”
“Uh- tickets? To get in?”
“Idiot, I work here and you’re my—“ He paused, fingers to the bridge of his nose. “You’re my guest, you can come in with me.”
With a flick of his ID, the two of you were allowed entry, you spent a majority of the day at the museum - Tsukishima particularly enthused when you’d reached the dinosaur exhibits and seemed to be an expert. Must be his specialty.
Another day you’d grabbed takeout coffee from your café and walked Rekkusu through the nearby park.
“Y’know, even though he’s quite standoffish, he’s a really good dog.”
“Yeah, I thought he’d mellow as he aged but he defied my expectations.” Kei admiringly answered, the two of you watching him catch his frisbee midair.
“Hm, Yamaguchi met him as a puppy right? And he’s known you for a while, is that why he calls you Tsuki?”
“Only he’s allowed to call me that.”
“I figured, you might as well call me (Y/n), that’s what my friends tend to do.” Even if you shrugged casually, you still noted the brief flush of colour tinting the blondes ears.
“You can call me Kei then. Fairs fair.”
“Kei huh? I’m honoured.”
“Shut up (Y/n).”
———
Now with these frequent outings to here, there, and everywhere, it came as no surprise when it turned into dating somewhere along the line. Once more, your coworkers squealed at the news - now you knew what Kei was talking about…
Nonetheless, even though it had taken quite a lot of time, Rekkusu had warmed to you as well. This time when Tsukishima and Yamaguchi were out walking his dog, the two weren’t shocked when Rekkusu barked and bounded up to your approaching figure. Basically tackling you the grassy ground as you went to greet him in return.
“He really loves (Y/n), doesn’t he?” Kei has spoken absentmindedly whilst overlooking the scene, a soft smile upon his features.
Yamaguchi stared also, flicking from you and Rekkusu to his best friend in quiet understanding.
“Well, they say Tsuki…” A knowing smile. “That dogs take after their owners.”
“I guess, this one time, they’re right.”

Thinking about Tsukishima, and how having severe photophobia means he has to wear those stupid photochromic lenses everywhere, at all times. He can only keep his eyes open halfway in a lit room, let alone in wake of the sunrise, or the daylight, or the sunset.
Thinking about Tsukishima, and how having severe photophobia and being stuck wearing photochromic lenses means that his body has doomed him to a lifetime of muted sunrises, smothered daylight, and greying sunsets. It's almost as if he has been perpetually asleep since he was born, his waking world masked in darkness at the hands of a smoggy polariser.
Thinking about Tsukishima meeting you for the first time, when the forgotton flashlight of your phone goes unnoticed by everyone in the classroom except him. The photochromic lenses don't react quickly enough when it spins towards his direction, unbeknownst to you, and he cries out in pain, to the shock of everyone in the classroom. He isn't one to speak, and is definitely not one to cry out. He screams at you to turn it off, and you're just about to shit yourself terrified, scrambling for the button to disable it. From that day onwards, you keep the flashlight on your phone disabled at all times.
Thinking about Tsukishima, who thinks you're an idiot after the accident, and vows to stay as far away from you as possible. Until every teacher suddenly wants to put the two of you in pairs. You're competent enough with your skills, at the very least you don't slow him down. He hates to admit it, but for someone who can't notice their phone flashlight, you are pretty fucking good at doing perfectly precise titrations, and really fucking good at catching his mathematical errors when he proudly presents the calculated concentration from the titration trials.
Thinking about Tsukishima, who tells you he hates the sun in physics one time, and dogs on you for preferring day to night. His arguments are valid, photophobia, after all. He says that he indulges in the moon more, that the sun is too bright for his fragile eyes to exist in. You have to remind him how the moon is simply just a reflection of the sun anyways, and he scoffs. You continue to remind him that sunlight encompasses every colour on earth, and that it bounces off waters, still and rough alike, in shimmering diamonds. You marvel at how it diffuses into every shade of red, orange, and blue at sunrise, how it bends into green in a backdrop of gold and pink if you look hard enough at the sun as it retreats beneath the horizon during sunset. A jarring, mocking reminder of all the phenomenons that he will never have the privilege of seeing with his naked eyes.
Thinking about Tsukishima at senior camp, unable to fall asleep on the cold, hard ground of his tent. 3ºC at 4:30am is killer temperature, and he decides that it is time to give up on slumber for the night. He walks out to see you jump awake at your alarm in a camping chair, set up right next to his own outside the tent. He takes a seat beside you, rubbing his eyes before placing his glasses on again. He asks you why you are doing this to yourself, when it is 3ºC in the middle of nowhere at 4:30am. You tell him the sunrise is about to start, and that his spot had the optimal view to it. He is about to return to his tent, when you stop him, and convince him to stay. He has never tried looking at a sunrise, and he expects nothing from it. After all, the photochromic lenses will drown out all the colours you speak of, and mute them into monochromatic grey anyways. Yet as the sun climbs above the treeline and the silhouettes of the mountains afar, his eyes bask in the muted blues and oranges, almost grey, but not quite yet. They may not be as vibrant as you make them out to be, but they are incredible nonetheless.
Thinking about Tsukishima, whose eyes are actually amber beneath his glasses, a commonly mistaken fact only because the sterile white lights of the school forces the polarisers in his lenses to darken. Everyone agrees that his eyes are dark brown, yet when he enters your exclusively lamplit room for the first time one afternoon, your joint science fair project balanced on a soldering machine and a stack of textbooks, his polarisers lighten. And as you watch him solder wires together to form circuits, eyes trained onto the hot iron in his hand, you notice it for the first time. Even in the lack of sunlight thanks to the blackout blinds, and amidst the ambient greens, blues, and purples of your lamps, his eyes are closer to the sun than they ever will be brown.
Thinking about Tsukishima, who after a year of being lab partners, and science fair teammates, and unlikely friends with you, cries when you show him your camera after the school's graduation dinner. You reveal hundreds of photos, taken with just the right aperture and ISO as to not hurt his eyes, all of the sunrises and sunsets you have encountered since learning of his photophobia. For the first time in his life, as he sits cross legged on your bed, he can see the pinks and reds that everyone fawns over, the golds, and blues, and oranges that you forced yourself awake to see at 4:30am on a 3ºC morning. He can see them all while his eyes remain amber, without the polarisers in his glasses firing on, without the smoggy grey filter he has become so accustomed to.
Thinking about Tsukishima, who doesn't even know how to thank you as you roll through the albums, and can only stare as you talk through the stories of each sunrise, and each sunset. You were the lab partner, science fair teammate, unlikely friend. You were all of that, now turned into the striking, yet painless daylight that infiltrates his eyes, and seeps through his body. It courses through his veins and arteries, pumping into his heart erratically as his arms pull you towards him, wrapping around your torso as golden sunlight spills from his amber (not dark brown) eyes, and he finally awakens from his eighteen-year slumber. The two of you sit in silence as you set down the camera, hands travelling up to wrap around his neck and hold the back of his head as he shrinks into your shoulder and weeps.
After all, the moon cannot exist without his sun.

『••✎••』
The cold evening air bit at your cheeks as you walked toward the small café where you had agreed to meet him. The message he sent earlier replayed in your mind:
“I need to talk to you. It’s important.”
Tsukishima rarely asked for one-on-one time unless it was about something serious. You were used to his blunt demeanor, but this felt different, almost heavy.
You pushed the door open, the warmth of the café and the smell of coffee greeting you. Your eyes scanned the room until they landed on him, sitting in a corner booth. His blond hair caught the light, but it was his expression that struck you. He looked tired, his usual sharp confidence dulled.
“Hey,” you said softly as you slid into the seat across from him.
He glanced up, his honey-brown eyes meeting yours. “Hey.”
The silence stretched between you, the hum of conversation and the clinking of cups filling the space. Finally, he sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“She broke up with me,” he said, his voice flat.
Your heart clenched. She. Your best friend.
“Oh,” you managed, your throat tight. You’d seen it coming, of course. She’d always treated him like he was an afterthought, her sharp words and dismissive behavior grating against your nerves every time you saw them together. But you had never said anything. It wasn’t your place.
“I thought… I thought I could handle it,” he continued, his gaze fixed on the untouched cup of coffee in front of him. “That if I just waited, she’d start to care. But I was wrong.”
You wanted to comfort him, to tell him he deserved better, but the words caught in your throat. You had always been the silent observer, the one who watched from the sidelines as he gave his heart to someone who didn’t deserve it.
“I’m sorry, Kei,” you said instead, your voice barely above a whisper.
He looked up at you then, and something in his expression shifted. “You don’t have to apologize. It’s not your fault.”
No, it wasn’t. But you couldn’t shake the guilt that gnawed at you. Guilt for staying quiet. Guilt for wanting him to look at you the way he had looked at her.
For months after their breakup, you and Tsukishima grew closer. He leaned on you in ways he hadn’t before, and you found yourself falling deeper into the feelings you had tried to suppress.
But every time you thought about confessing, you hesitated. What if you were just a rebound? What if he only saw you as a friend?

A Few Months Later
The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange as you sat on the grassy hill near the volleyball courts. Tsukishima sat beside you, his long legs stretched out in front of him, his headphones hanging loosely around his neck.
“Thanks for coming out here with me,” he said, his voice breaking the comfortable silence.
“You don’t have to thank me,” you replied, smiling softly. “I like spending time with you.”
He turned to look at you, his eyes searching your face. “You always say that.”
“Because it’s true.”
He didn’t respond immediately, his gaze lingering on you. Then he said, almost hesitantly, “I’m glad I have you.”
Your chest tightened at his words, the vulnerability in his tone making your heart ache. You couldn’t keep it inside anymore.
“Kei,” you started, your voice trembling slightly. “I need to tell you something.”
He tilted his head, his brows furrowing. “What is it?”
You took a deep breath, your hands twisting in your lap. “I’ve liked you for a long time. Even before… before her. But I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to ruin what we had. And when you were with her, I thought—”
“Y/N,” he interrupted, his voice firm but not unkind.
You looked up at him, your eyes brimming with unshed tears.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, his tone softer now.
“Because you loved her,” you said simply.
He was silent for a moment, his gaze dropping to the ground. “I thought I did,” he admitted. “But it wasn’t real. Not like this.”
Your breath hitched. “This?”
“You,” he said, looking at you again. “Us.”
His hand reached out, hesitating for a moment before he took yours in his. His fingers were warm, his grip firm yet gentle.
“I didn’t see it before,” he said, his voice steady. “But I do now. You’ve always been there for me, even when I didn’t deserve it. And if you’re willing to give me a chance, I want to try. I want to see what this could be.”
A tear slipped down your cheek, but this time it wasn’t from sadness. You nodded, a small, hopeful smile breaking through. “I’ve always been willing, Kei.”
He smiled back, a rare, genuine smile that made your heart flutter. And as the sun dipped below the horizon, you felt something new blossom between you—something real, something worth holding onto.

Jealousy Can Be a Burden ~ Tsukishima Kei
Author's Note: Since my other account @cheekyredwillow got deleted. I am adding some of my favorite fanfictions to this account and revamping this one with new ones. I hope to make an actual list of fandoms I am still a fan of! NO requests for the time being.
Warnings - some minor cursing but nothing explicit
~~~
You and Tsukishima were known to be closem You two grew up together for many years into Karasuno. You two were tied at the hip and then Yamuguchi joined. Your duo became a trio in elementary school. You remember when Tsukishima was cheerful around his brother but you also remember when he lost that spark. During that time, you tried to be comfort for him. He tended to snap at you.
When the three of you started at Karasuno, the trio began to turn into a duo. You began to blossom in your own way by joining a club surrounding your favorite activity while Yamuguchi and Tsukishima stuck with volleyball. That didn't mean you didn't come and support, you just weren't around as much.
Actually you hung around Yamuguchi more often because he would wait for you after your club and go to lunch with you. You two also were paired for a history project and found a lot of your time together. This lead to Yamuguchi learning about your crush on Tsuki. You two were at lunch and it came up.
"So Y/n, when are you coming to a practice? I usually see you at games but not too many practices." Yamuguchi asked.
"I don't want to be a distraction and it seems when I do show up, Tsuki would rather me leave. I don't want to be a bother to him." You said.
"A bother to Tsuki? I don't think that's what you'll be but why worry about that? Do you like Tsuki?" He asked as your face flushed a bright cherry red. "You do like him!"
"Shush Yamuguchi... Not so loud!" You exclaimed.
"That explains so much Y/n! Are you going to tell him?"
"No way! We've already grown a bit apart. There's no way he likes me back."
What you did not know was that Tsukishima did like you. A lot. He did not want to like you because that brought up complicated feelings. He would rather just know you as a childhood friend - nothing more. But watching you grow up beside him and more of you began to shine, he felt his heart quicken. Suddenly he wanted you to be by his side not anyone else. He even felt his heart clench when he saw you and Yamuguchi together. He usually played harder during practice if he was against Yamuguchi. Others would be shocked by this but Yamaguchi knew what was going on.
It was a week after this incident that Yamaguchi asked you to stop by and he could hand over his portion of the history project. A major game was coming up so he couldn't meet at lunch so you ended up here. You walked to the practice area and noticed the team was practicing. Yamaguchi was on the side.
"Y/n! You made it." Yamaguchi exclaimed as you ran over to him.
"I did! I came over as soon as I could. Hope you weren't waiting too long." You said as Yamaguchi chuckled.
"I wasn't waiting long. We are practicing for a while anyways." As Yamaguchi finished his sentence, you heard a loud hit and made you jump. Tsukishima had hit a ball.
"He doesn't usually hit. He usually guards?" You asked as Yamaguchi shrugged his shoulders.
"We've been getting practice in other ways. Let me grab my other part of the project."
As you waited for Yamaguchi to get back from his bag, you heard a huff behind you. You turned and Tsukishima was behind you.
"Hey Tsuki. How have you been?" You said softly.
He brushed past you and grabbed his water. He wasn't looking at you and rather was staring at the net. You weren't sure if he was lost in thought or was ignoring you. Yamaguchi came back and handed you his paper.
"Here's my other half of the project. We should be good on this. You can call me if you need any help or I can meet you after practice too?"
"I'll call you if I need help Yamaguchi. I don't think it will be that hard to combine both parts." You said as you heard another huff. You turned and Tsuki was still not looking at you but his frown had deepened.
"Hi! I'm Hinata. Who are you?" You heard a loud voice say and turned to see a bright orange haired guy behind you.
"I'm Y/n. Sorry I'm here to get the other half of my project with Yamaguchi." You said as Hinata held his hand out.
"Nice to meet you! It's okay. We don't have many visitors. Did you two know each other before Karasuno?" Hinata asked and shook your hand.
"How about we focus on practicing rather than some girl that Yamaguchi is paired with?" Tsukishima growled.
"Tsukishima you know we grew up with Y/n before this. No need to be hostile." Yamaguchi said as Hinata's eyes sparkled.
"You grew up with them?!" Hinata exclaimed.
Before you could say anything, you felt a hand wrap around your wrist and you were being dragged outside. You stumbled a bit trying to keep up. You noticed it was Tsukishima with a cold look on his face. You stumbled again which made it where Tsukishima could kabedon you against the wall outside.
"Tsukishima I didn't know all that would happen."
"Y/n why did you show up?"
"To get the other half of the project. Yamaguchi said he couldn't meet earlier so he offered me to run by practice." You said in a shocked tone.
"Is that the only reason?"
"Tsukishima I don't know what you're getting at."
"Of course you have no clue. You act so oblivious to those around you." He growled this and looked into your eyes. You could tell he was angry and hurt.
"What is going on Tsuki?"
"Y/n are you dating Yamaguchi? Do you like him?"
"No! We're just friends like usual and that's the only way I would see him."
"Then why are you around him so much and always seem to gravitate to him? You appear to be with him by this."
"Tsuki I don't like him like that. I like someone else. We just hang out a lot since we have lunch together. What is going on?"
"I hate seeing you with him and looking so happy. Looking so damn perfect with him. You rarely hang with me anymore or see me. It's like I became a ghost to you."
"Tsuki do you miss me?"
"No" He looked away from you and a blush formed.
"Tsuki if it helps in anyway, I like you. I would rather be with you but you seemed to be so focused on volleyball. I didn't want to be a bother."
"Y/n you like me?"
You watched as Tsukishima began to recognize what you said. His eyes widened and he looked down to you. You felt a blush began to form. Before you said anything, he dipped down quickly to kiss you. You kissed back immediately. The kiss felt like strong passion and longing for you. It also felt like some heat behind it as if the anger before went into the kiss. As you were kissing back, you realized he was jealous. You broke the kiss.
"Were you jealous Tsuki?" You asked as immediately he blushed.
"No. Shut up." He said as you chuckled. You stood on your tip toes and kissed his cheek. He rolled his eyes but began to smile softly.
"You're the one I want Kei. No one else." You said as he ruffled your hair.
"And you're who I want to Y/n. Meet me after practice?" He asked as you nodded your head.
You two didn't notice Yamaguchi and Hinata watching from the side. Both were grinning and Yamaguchi handed Hinata his favorite snack. The two of you shared a brief kiss before Tsukishima returned to practice.
[Prompt Series pt.1] Tsukishima helping you with your hair
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary — Tsukishima helping the reader dry and brush their hair after a shower.
— Fluff
— Gn!Reader
— Implied reader with hair below shoulders!!
Tumblr media
This week was especially tiring for the two of you, his training getting more and more intense, and you being super busy with your own club. And since today is Saturday, Tsukishima will sleep at your house and spend the next day resting by your side.
You were now in your room, well... it was actually just he who was in your room, you were taking a shower while he waited for you to come out of the bathroom. While waiting for you, Tsukishima's mind was a little hazy.
Because there's one thing that the blonde can't get out of his head: your hair.
No matter how busy you are or how busy your day is, your hair always looks flawless. You are someone who is very vain about your own appearance, but you always took extra care with your hair. Just looking at you the people can tell how soft your hair is, plus it always has a shine that would blind anyone who looked at you.
And Tsukishima noticed it too.
He doesn't know if it's due to neediness or the lack of attention you've been receiving from each other due to your busy schedule, but he's felt like just lying down with you and burying his face in your hair, smelling your mesmerizing shampoo. But of course he would never admit that to you, it's Tsukishima after all.
His thoughts are interrupted when you enter the room, heading towards your desk. "Tsukki, help me find my hairbrush please, I can't find it anywhere..." You say looking at him with a pout, frustrated that you couldn't find what you wanted. He nods his head in confirmation, and helps you look for your hairbrush; It didn't take long to find the blessed thing that was hidden at the bottom of a drawer, so Tsukishima hands it to you. "Thanks Tsukki!!" you say in an excited tone, leaning in to press a kiss to his cheek, which soon turns a light shade of pink.
You then turn around to start combing your hair, an act that Tsukishima watches closely. From the ends to the top of your head, you untangle the small knots that have accumulated in your hair.
"Do you...want help?"
You turn around in surprise, looking at the boy with his head down, not making eye contact with you. "What?" you ask curiously, your mind too tired to process the reason for the question.
"Your hair... you want me to help you?" you watch him say this with a light blush on his cheek. You are surprised, but soon your expression softens with a sweet smile. And without saying anything, you approach him and with a gesture you ask him to extend his hand; and when he does, you put your hairbrush in his hands and sit next to him on the bed, turning your back to him.
He then tries to copy the way you were brushing your hair previously, taking a section and combing it from the bottom up gently. As he repeats the process on other parts of your hair, he notices how soft it is to the touch, the softness being the result of a long hydration that you did before going to the shower
When he finishes combing your hair, Tsukishima notices that your wet hair resting on your shoulders is dripping, seeing as you hadn't dried it yet. Then without saying anything, he gets up and goes towards your closet, taking one of your dry towels. And gently, he dries the ends of your hair; and as soon as he finishes, he sets the towel aside and places a small kiss on the top of your head, making you blush.
"Tsukki, are you by any chance sick?"
"Of course not, why?"
"It's just that you're being so affectionate with me today." you say in a teasing tone, laughing lightly.
"...Aren't you going to apply that hair cream you always use?" He says trying to divert the topic.
You notice that he avoided your question and laugh lightly, but you don't bring up the subject again. "I only use it when I go out, it's good to leave my hair without the cream sometimes, so it can rest a little." He responds with a small "um" as he hugs you from behind, resting his head on your shoulder.
You close your eyes, enjoying the light moment of affection that the two of you rarely experience, since Tsukishima is not someone that affectionate.
But little do you know that from that day on, this little moment would become a routine to escape the tiring days both of you spend.
A/N — Hey guys!! In case any of you haven't seen my previous post, I'll explain what I'm planning to do:
I'm getting random fanfic prompts through a website, and random characters that are chosen from a roulette wheel. And then I'll put together the chosen prompt + chosen character, and make a fanfic out of that.
I'm mainly doing this to improve my writing here, so there's no set deadline/maximum number of fanfics I can make. And if I win a request, I will prioritize making the request above anything else I write!!
Anyway, I hope you liked it!! And I'm sorry if it wasn't so good...😭😭
— Prompt chosen for this post: Person A helping Person B dry and brush their hair after a shower.
Tsukishima x reader
Genre : fluff , comfort .
Tumblr media
Cuddling with tsukishima feels so nice , because he's tall his hands reach all the way around your back . And you can easily rest your head on his chest or shoulder. He's acts like he hates affection . But would whine if you pull away from his embrace because he secretly loves the way he can feel your soft heartbeat against his skin . There's something very intimate about that.
He wouldn't wanna admit it but he likes the softness of the moment and the comfort of being in each other's embrace. It makes him feel loved.
You kiss the tip of his nose before softly connecting your lips with his melting into a soft kiss . When you pull away you find his eyes darting away , anywhere except meeting yours.
You second-guess yourself before he nuzzles his nose in the skin of your neck burying his face in your skin .
"you good ?" You ask running your fingers through his soft hair .
"mhm" you feel him softly mumbling into your neck . Bathing into your scent. Still refusing to meet your eyes . "Gimme a second ." He says taking you aback for a second .
But then you take notice of the violent red color on his ears .
" Are you blushing tsuuki ? " You tease him . In response he tightens his arms around you mumbling a quiet "shut up ."
Note
do you have some headcanons where the reader is one of Daichi's younger sisters who's also a first year and is dating Tsukishima?
OMG YES!
Head Canons
Dating Tsukishima as Daichi's younger sister
Tumblr media
______________________________________________________________
He would not like it when he finds out you two were dating
Would probably try to convince you to leave him
For the first few weeks after finding out, he treats Tsukishima more stricter than the others
Tsukishima would probably just roll his eyes and say whatever.
The whole team would make fun of Daichi for "allowing" it to happen
Tsukishima would probably be very hesitant to start dating you because you're his captains younger sister
Would definitely wait for you to make the first move
Daichi would have the "What are your intentions with my sister?" talk with him
The whole team would be ready to fight Tsukishima if he hurt you
Daichi constantly making sure he treats you well
Daichi would EVENTUALLY get over it, and start giving Tsukishima tips on ways to make you happy
"Y/n, why is he at our house AGAIN?!"
Still hates whenever he comes over
Preaches safe sex to you constantly and asks you once a month if you're pregnant
If he ever see's you crying, he automatically assumes it's because of him
"What did he do?!" "Nothing..? I just saw a sad cat video.."
