Running Away

Today's posepack is another commission, which I made for Talja back in February. ❤️ It's a bit of a fiddly one because it requires an acc and a deco object, but honestly I'm really pleased with the poses and I hope they're useful to other people too!

Pack contains 6 couple poses for two Sims running down a set of stairs. Masc and femme rigs were used and, as always, there may be some clipping or floating depending on Sim body type and clothing.

The suitcase acc was made from the Growing Together suitcase and is base game. Posemakers, feel free to use the accessory in your own poses and include it in your downloads, just please don't paywall or claim it as your own (and a link back for credit would be super appreciated!).

The stairs are made by KKB and honestly I can't even remember how I got them, since their original download link is dead - the creator seems to be exclusively using CurseForge now lmao. I won't be linking to CF.

Well, anon offered me to make a conversion of stealthic’s midsummer night (because existing version has some transparencies) and I did it because I like this hair too. Also there are a couple of necklaces that wait in my to-do folder too long (hope no one converted them xD). Details under the cut!

Stealthic MidsummerNight 4to2

Technically, this is a new 4to2 conversion, because in my work I used files from ts4, so the file was named according to my naming system. But since I wanted to be able to use it with all retextures (there have been a lot of them over the years), I made it as a replacement for the old pucсamichi mesh. You can download a new mesh separately if you already have retextures, or download a mesh with recolors from my palette, which I also made In any case don't forget to delete the old mesh (name Puccamichi-Stealthic-MidsummerNight4to2AllAges-Mesh) before using my version, they are not compatible.

— for all ages, female only  honestly I don't think this hair is suitable for toddlers but since the previous conversion included this age, I had to do the same — polycount: 11.6k — textures:original texture — color palette —  binned and familied; elders come in grey (linked to black); custom greys are available for toddler-adult —  original ts4 mesh here — not animated, I didn’t managed to get the animation to work in this file, just smooth assignments

I don't think this is THE most dramatic storyline I've ever done, but I'm gonna share this one because it was 100% gameplay and had me sweating lol.

I started a legacy challenge when TS4 came out. I was 100% vanilla and learning the mechanics of this game. If you've ever done a legacy challenge without mods, you know the struggle of that first generation when they are homeless and you're trying to generate income for them while also finding food, taking 147 naps, and also trying to find a spouse on normal life. The ladies were not kind to my guy Xavier, and he was an adult by the time he found one he liked. She wasn't the cutest, but they were cute together. He asked her to marry him, and the day before the wedding, she came over to tell him she couldn't have children. That should totally be interpreted as she was an elder! I was SO mad! Having was very important to him, so he called off the wedding and started looking for new love. He got back out there, and the ladies weren't any better the second time around. He finally found someone and asked her to marry him, and she said no. He tried again a few days later, and again, she said no! He's approaching his elder birthday now, and I am PANICKING!! He tried a third time, and finally she said yes. They got married the next day because he was not going to risk her changing her mind. They tried for a baby that night, but the baby was a girl and my legacy was a strict patriarchy. Luckily, his wife was a bit younger than him so she had a little more time to have another baby. I let them enjoy the one for a couple of days before trying again. Luckily, he was a boy, and I could continue the challenge. Phew!

A story in two parts... 🙃

The Apple Nectar actually ended up being okay quality though! Not too shabby for Lea's first attempt.

As promised, my thoughts on nectar making are below the cut ↓

The nectar making skill is built slowly and gained at a much slower rate than horseback riding, for instance. I'm assuming that's because it's a 5-tier skill instead of 10-tier skill, but Lea didn't level up to level 2 until 4 or 5 bottles later. 🥴

That being said: even a poor, unaged bottle of nectar goes for 55 simoleons. That's a good profit, especially if you're growing your own produce, so it's a lucrative skill right off the bat. Considering that Lea can't get a job because a horse and a ranch are basically a full-time job, it's nice to have a skill that can help pay the bills. I also love the "aging" rack because, surprisingly, it's functional! Hallelujah! I'm so tired of getting a plethora of cute, decorative objects that serve no function or even go as far to allude to an actual skill without providing it (I'm looking at you, woven basket decor items - but more on that later). However, I had no idea how long it took to age a bottle of nectar. I'm guessing it is worth the wait and will increase the price, quality, and potency when consumed...but I'd had a bottle of apple nectar put away for a few days and it still hadn't aged. (I just looked it up and Google says 1 week, which feels reasonable in "sim time." I was worried it would be longer.)

I do wish there were a few more animations while making nectar just so it could be more interesting to watch, but honestly I don't think it takes that long to produce a bottle in comparison to other skills in the game (like gardening... GOD growing and tending crops in TS4 is excruciatingly tedious). Plus, if you have the "rancher" skill, you can sometimes get additional bottles out of one nectar-making session, so that's really nice. Visually, I'd compare this skill to knitting and cross-stitching due to its repetition, and if you're wondering what it looks like... well, the trailer shows it all lol. I don't think there's much to it: they stomp a little, fall, get up, repeat until the nectar is complete. Then they step out, seal the bottle, and the bottle goes into their inventory. There are some pretty funny expressions you can get though (outtake below).

Because this skill's animation is pretty repetitive and simple, I think they should have thrown one or even two more skills in there. After all, this pack is $40. Basket weaving, as I mentioned above, would even used a similar animation to an already existing in-game skill (cross stitching) so I think this would have been fairly easy to implement. In fact, I'm still shocked it isn't a part of this pack. There are some good decorative objects and CAS items that allude to Native culture, but by and large the pack lacks actual substance to represent actively living in these cultures - I think skills like basket weaving or pottery would have been a great way to add substance to the pack AND create an opportunity to talk more about Native American cultures and pay proper homage to their traditions and skillsets. I would have loved seeing elder native sims mentoring young sims in basket weaving like they can do with knitting, for instance... that would have been so adorable. 🥺❤️ It just feels like a real missed opportunity on their part. One recipe (smh) and a couple decorative objects/cas items are a good start, but more could have definitely been done. If modders can implement these things for free, game devs should have no problem implementing these features. ESPECIALLY when you consider the pack's asking price... and I stand by that!

All that being said, I am pleased with this skill and find the animations cute, but it's certainly not intensive enough that they can justify it being the only skill in the pack separate from horse-related skills. (Which, for the record, I don't really count because that's the whole selling point of the pack. Anything horse related should be a given).

I'm not trying to diminish the amount of work it took to animate and implement horses - I haven't experienced many bugs personally, and I know adding an entirely new living creature with customization and personalization is tedious. Even so, I still don't think the full price is justified. Comparing it to Cats and Dogs, I think this EP missed a lot of good opportunities to implement a new career, skills, and gameplay. I even feel like we could have gotten some new dialogue interactions, or even a spiritual/cultural trait related to Native American ideologies or customs (kind of like the child of the island/child of the ocean traits we got with Island Living) but I've yet to see many notable additions in that regard. If this pack was a $20 game pack I think I would feel totally different. I'm having fun, but I would never be able to justify spending $40.

SO... would I recommend it? Honestly... so far, yeah. I would just snag it when it goes on sale for $20 (or through other means. You do you). $20 is the price it should have been in the first place. But I am shocked at how much fun I've been having. The CAS and Build/Buy is really good, maybe my favorite in a while (but I'm into the rugged, dirty, western style quite a bit... if that's not your thing, this pack won't do anything for you). The horses are cool and in my experience after playing it for a few days, they're animated really well (surprisingly... I thought this pack would be 'My Wedding Stories' all over again). I also love this world. It's right up there with San Myshuno, Brindleton Bay, and Windenburg for me.

Coming up: I'll be taking Lea into town- she's a loner, but it's time to force her out of her comfort zone so she can make some friends. (Plus, I really want to see the new dance floor animation haha.)

In fact I'm going to specifically shout-out the Runestone and Herbal Cottage Set because I'm using them so much right now and they've instantly become a must-have for my Mods folder.

I did some more Bg3-ish TS4 legacy playing

Karlach continued to spend time with her childhood friend Guillermo Landgrabb, only a couple days older than her, single and wealthy <.<

Astarion reached his elder birthday...

And if anything his hair went less white than it was.

Karlach made the moves on Guillermo before any of her girl friends could try to nab him.

And spent a lot of time watching the cooking channel with Dina so Karlach can follow in her footsteps.

Cooking is like really easy to level, so Karlach also got a guitar for her love of music.

Astarion's lifebar was filling real fast (not played enough to know/remember how normal that is), so it was clear he wasn't going to max the criminal career, but he did reach Safecracker, which is very appropriate for how I use him in BG3

And then his time was up at circa 128 days. Tbh it was for the best - his autonomous meanness had him and Dina headed for divorce if he lived much longer and he even had a quarter full red bar with Karlach

Widowed single and still wanting romance in her future, we got Dina a punching bag to get a little more back in shape

Karlach was invited to Guillermo's young adult birthday, they'd already promised to stay together so he's fine to wait (also there doesn't seem to be a lot of autonomous marriage out there tbh, a fair amount of random kid adoption though, Dina has two adopted young sisters)

Speaking of Dina, she maxed the culinary career as a celebrity chef! Her aspirations still want MOAR MONEY but she is earning quite well now and she doesn't come home to an asshole husband anymore.

Well, sort of, but he doesn't really talk or interact as much as a ghost.

And then it was Karlach's turn to become a young adult, randomly gaining the art lover trait. Very creative lady. She also has several fears accumulated over the years: the dark, unfulfilled dreams, death, and being cheated on.

She immediately got a ring on Guillermo's finger and, lest anybody worry, these two are soulmates with full friendship and romance bars so their relationship may hopefully go better than her parents'.

A couple of days later (Karlach had work), they got married in the back garden in front of friends and family. Karlach's hair matches her dress!

And so now we have Guillermo: a loyal, genius bro. No evil or mean traits in sight, thank heavens. He also seems to have some random adopted siblings (his father's gone for a while, his mother's an elder and the youngest of his siblings was an infant).

Now to consider getting a bigger and better house...

Ben originally planned to try his luck at the Solar Flare Lounge - but his nerve falters and he finds himself dawdling in front of the museum instead. I hope Cam at least manages to find someone interesting, he thinks. He turns to leave - and almost runs into a stunning red-haired woman.

“Careful there, tiger,” she teases gently. “Don’t want to damage one of the works of art, do you?”

Ben apologizes and she accepts with good humor, giving her name as Dr. Kara Oberlin. To his own surprise, he finds himself viewing artwork alongside her, talking color theory and aesthetics after admitting that he paints. The conversation flows easily from that to more personal topics and long, meaningful looks.

Kara’s voice turns positively sultry when she confirms that she’s single - and by the time the museum closes, Ben claims a kiss of his own.
