Why aren't both of my turning signals are not working?
Tumblr media
While you are on the roads in a car and you are driving and there is traffic, then while turning, you would obviously use the turn lights to warn the other drivers that you are turning to this particular direction. Without the use of turning lights in roads having traffic, you would feel like the driving is incomplete. Imagine you are in a situation where you need to signal to the fellow drivers but your turn light is not working. Then no doubt that you will be in a trouble. For safety, you have to use the turn lights and if they are not working, then you have to get them fixed. But before that you have to what exactly makes the turn lights to malfunction and in this article, you will get to know about it.
How turn lights are important?
The turn lights are the pairs of external lights on a vehicle that makes the work of signaling all the fellow drivers about the drivers’ intentions on the turning of the car. Because it’s very important for the other drivers to know about what you are going to do, whether you are going to turn left or right or slow down your car.
Based on the signals they get from the rear lights of your car; they act accordingly and try to maintain a safe distance from your car so that their vehicle would not hit with your car and all will be safe. Imagine if you don’t have the turn lights working in your car and you are in the middle of the road and want to turn your car to left.
There are also many vehicles around you, then how can you take your car safely to that side where you want to? Some drivers who are behind you and driving in speed may hit you if you do something which is beyond their expectations? By the use of the turn lights, you can make them alerted even they are at more distance from you. When you turn on the left turn light, then the other drivers would expect that you are going to turn your car to the left, if you turn on the right light, then they would expect that you would go right.
If the turn lights would not be working properly or you have done some mistakes in using them then the other drivers may get wrong signals and find that you are acting differently than they have expected and lead to accidents. It is found out through various surveys by some organizations that about 2 million of accidents occur in a year due to the failing in use of the turn signals properly. So, the problem can occur due to the drivers mistakes or due to some faults in the turn light itself.
Reasons behind the turning lights issue
There are various issues that can occur in the turn lights like one turn light is not working, both the turn lights are not working, the turn lights are not flashing, flashing too fast or too slow. Here I’m gonna talk about the problem in which both the turn lights are not working at all. To fix the issue, you should know about all those components that are most likely to have caused the both turn lights off. Here are some common reasons-
Blown fuse
All the fuses are present on the fuse box. Fuse protect the electrical components from high current. The fuse gets blown when a current of magnitude higher than the rated value flows through the fuse. So, check the fuse, if the fuse for the turn lights is blown, then it’s not conduction any current and it has to be replaced.
Damaged relay
It’s the flasher or relay which turn on the particular turn light when you turn it on. The relay too maker the light to flash continuously. If the replay is damaged then either both the light would stop glowing or stop flashing if they are glowing.
Bulbs are damaged
If the bulbs of both the lights are damaged, then simply both of them would stop glowing.
Damaged socket
It’s the socket from which the bulb gets the current. If the socket its corroded, then the bulb may not receive current properly and hence it would not work.
Conclusion
So, you have a look on how these components mentioned above are causing problems in the functioning of the turn bulbs.

How Can a Vacuum Pump Oil Leak Affect Your Volvo XC60
Tumblr media
Owning a Volvo XC60 is pleasurable until its vacuum pump fails and starts acting up. Well, what does a vacuum pump do? Usually, it produces a vacuum to support the brake booster so that you don’t need to push the brake pedal so hard to slow down or stop your car. It also provides sufficient energy to other auto parts like the turbocharger and emissions systems, according to how your car is engineered. As the vacuum pump is a collection of different moving parts, it needs oil for its smooth operation. Thus, due to excessive usage or aging, the seals and gaskets (where the oil gets stored) wear out, causing oil leaks, and neglecting it can destroy the other nearby parts as well as cause permanent damage to the entire vacuum pump down the line.
So, don’t want to spoil your overall driving experience? Here is the breakdown to help you understand what is the impact of the vacuum pump oil leak on your Volvo XC60 so that you can restore it to achieve an optimal driving experience in the long run.
What happens to your Volvo XC60 when its vacuum pump leaks oil?
Degraded brake efficiency: The vacuum pump is implemented in your car to experience smooth or effortless braking. But when it starts seeping the oil out, it can't produce sufficient vacuum pressure, which might make the brake pedal rigid or less responsive. With a leaked vacuum pump, you can face issues in emergency when you need to slow down or halt your vehicle immediately, as the brake pedal doesn’t respond correctly and can’t be pushed fully due to excessive stiffness.
Possible turbocharger problems: In most Volvo XC60 models, the vacuum pump offers power to the turbocharger to enhance engine performance. Thus, when the vacuum pump malfunctions due to oil seepage, the turbocharger becomes unable to improve engine efficiency successfully, and as a result, your car feels the loss of power, and the engine performs the same work but with extra effort to fulfill the requirements, putting excessive strain on itself.
Rapid engine wear: The oil is responsible for lubricating all its moving parts and keeping every vacuum component running smoothly, preventing damage due to friction. If the vacuum pump drips oil, its parts can’t be lubricated properly, and as a result, they get damaged faster. This can cause permanent wear to the entire vacuum pump if not addressed on time.
Dirty engine compartment: Since oil is a liquid when it drips, it doesn’t stay in one place. It spreads throughout the engine area, covering other engine components and making a mess. If you don’t pay attention to it, the oil can keep leaking and can wear out or degrade the rubber hoses, belts, and other engine elements. This not only leads to poor vehicle performance but also can stop your car from running, causing heavy expenditure on unnecessary repairs in the long run.
Enhanced repair expenses over time: Any minor issue jumps to serious ones if left untreated. Just like that, these minor vacuum pump leaks also cause more severe troubles if you don’t take immediate action to rectify them. It's quite easy and inexpensive to seal minor vacuum pump leaks and can be treated by any skilled mechanic. But your negligence can truly damage different vacuum pump parts slowly, and one day, you may see the complete vacuum pump to be dysfunctional. Believe it or not, an entire vacuum pump replacement can drain your wallet heavily.
The final words
With this, we have come to the end of this article. So, here we have discussed the potential effects of the vacuum pump leak on your Volvo XC60. Hopefully, you have understood that a vacuum pump oil leak might begin as a small issue but can trigger a series of troubles that can impact your vehicle’s overall efficiency and safety. However, recognizing the warning signs and giving prompt responses can help you prevent bigger issues plus keep your vehicle tip-top. Thus, whenever you spot any symptoms of a vacuum pump seepage, make sure to sort it out immediately by visiting the nearest Volvo service center and consulting with a professional to avail a flawless journey in your beloved Volvo XC60.
