It's Suicide Awareness/Prevention Month.

Suicide rates among autistic people are very high and 60% of autistics have reportedly considered suicide. It is one of the main reasons we, on average, tend to die young.

I want to talk about this, bluntly and openly. This is not just a personal story, I do have tips at the end. Note that what follows is aimed at autistic people like myself.

Also:

If you are (actively or not) considering suicide, please seek help.

I am suicidal. Not actively at this time, but I am always, and have been since my teens, at some level of suicidal. I've made 3 actual attempts, came very close once.

My brain just goes there. When life gets too big, when my troubles seem insurmountable, that's where I go. And life gets so big, because of my autism. The stress of trying to fit into a society that is almost actively hostile to who I am, that gets me to that edge quite frequently.

I've talked to my therapist about this. Often I don't actually want to die, I just want out for a bit. I want to not exist. And suicide seems like the only option. I've joked to him quite often that just a little coma every 6 months would do me so much good.

While my autism is the underlying factor for my suicidal ideation, I also think it's my rescue. My analytical side looks on, telling me I don't want to be dead, I just want to take a break. I can distance myself from my emotions and go "this is why you want to die, maybe let's look into fixing that". I've practiced this over the years. I've turned my fantasies of dying into fantasies of running away. And I've practiced going "oh, you need rest, let's go into recuperation mode"

Don't get me wrong, it's not all as simple as *minor inconvenience* -> 'I should kill myself' -> 'oop, guess I'm tired, time for a nap'. The thoughts are still severe, insidious, vile and very real. They build up over time until they become almost unbearable and it takes work to recognize them for what they are.

It's the hiding away from and with suicidal thoughts that gives them power. Dealing with these feelings in secret makes them so much larger than they need to be. Accepting them, sharing them, analyzing them robs them of that power and provides an opportunity to neutralize them.

Some things my experience has taught me that might help you too:

suicidal thoughts are common (among autistic people) and nothing to be ashamed of

check with yourself if you actually want to die or if you just want to not exist for a bit. There is a difference.

be compassionate with yourself. This goes back to my first point: let go of the shame surrounding feeling suicidal

relax. Don't be fooled by NTs for whom suicidal thoughts are a BIG DEAL. If to you (like to me) feeling suicidal is like a regular Tuesday, treat it as such. Go "huh, I'm suicidal again, must be time to take some more rest" rather than the DEFCON2 NTs would expect. Going "OMG OMG I'm suicidal, this is terrible, see how useless I am, I'm a bad person for feeling this way" is the opposite of helpful.

knowing and accepting that suicidal thoughts are something that occasionally happens to you, takes the stigma away and helps you find what you actually need. I promise what you need is *not* the sweet relief of death.

Take care of yourself. You're far from the only one who has these thoughts. It is completely understandable that you have these thoughts. These thoughts are not a reason to panic. When they come, take a break. Just not a permanent one, okay?

Hi do you want to see a sneak peak at what I'm trying to write?

The synonym for companion is:

A) Fool.

B) Mirror.

C) Entrapment.

D) Partner.

You've never really been able to connect with the people around you. It's like everyone has some sort of mental connection that you've never really been able to grasp. You've tried. You've tried like hell all your life to make up for what you're missing. There is an invisible pane of glass separating you from the rest of the world.

Some would call this, in combination with a variety of other things about you, a sign of autism. You once tried to bring up the topic with your therapist, the one your father makes you talk to once a week. All he had to say in response was,

"You aren't autistic, Dib. You're just crazy. It's all in your head."

He said it in a faux saccharine tone, the way one would talk to a pet or a child.

You aren't insane. There is something wrong, but it's real. It may be intangible, but it is real. This isn't just in your head. It can't be.

The therapist told your dad about the little 'outburst' you had in response. He was not pleased. Your dad pleaded during the ride home for you to "just be fucking normal" and to "finally get over yourself."

Gaz wouldn't look at you, she rarely does. Just kept playing whatever game has her attention in a death-grip at the moment.

Don't they know how fucking hard you've tried?

You think, maybe, that this is why Zim's brazen mimicry of humanity is so upsetting to you. They think he's weird, sure, but they never think that he isn't human. The same cannot be said for you. Maybe it's in the way you move; like you're something trapped in the body of someone who is much too small. Perhaps it's the way you talk like you're just poorly mimicking those around you. You're nothing more than a poor facsimile of a human person.

Zim, on the other hand, seems to move through the world, through your world, with an effortlessness that bewilders you. Nobody notices how artificial everything about him is; the plastic sheen of his 'hair' and the emptiness of his 'eyes'. Everyone thinks of him as a freak, sure, but he's still somehow less of a freak than you are. Maybe this is part of his plan. To make everyone think that you're the one who's actually an alien.

You know, logically, that you shouldn't be this upset about this. It doesn't matter what other people think of you, it's still your job to fight, but the lack of faith everyone has in you makes you want to give up at times. In moments of weakness, you want to just lay down and die and let the things that only you seem to care about destroy the world.

When you're feeling really vengeful, you want to help him. Join Zim in the conquest of your world in hopes that he'll spare you (and maybe Gaz) when it's all over. It makes you sick to think about, but Zim is really the only person you have. He's been a pain in your ass since elementary school, but he's been the only person who's never left. The scars and bruises and broken bones are the closest thing to a token of friendship you've ever had.

You eat lunch alone, so does Zim. Well, 'eating' is a bit of an exaggeration. Zim doesn't eat and you don't like eating where people can see. A better way to say this would be that you and Zim sit on opposite sides of the courtyard while you drink an energy drink and Zim does whatever it is that he does.

You don't quite feel real. Your thoughts are sluggish and your body is disconnected. It's like thinking and moving through static, and no matter how hard you try, you cannot will your body to move.

People usually call this dissociation. This can't be dissociation, though, because dissociation is a real problem that real people experience, and, as stated earlier, you aren't quite real. This is just your head making up problems that don't actually exist. You can move and think just fine, you're just pretending you can't because that will make all of the problems you've made up seem real.

Your dull fingernails are digging in to the skin of your other hand, the pain a feeble attempt to bring your reality back together. Various episodes like this one have left light scars on your hands. You've scratched through the layers of your skin hard enough to draw blood that turns to deep, red scabs, and light pink scars that are only visible up close.

The pain in your left hand ceases as a hand covers your own. It doesn't restrain your right hand, though, as people trying to 'help' you often do. No, it leaves your other hand free to scratch at the skin above your own. Is that even skin? You can't feel your body enough to tell, but you think something about it feels off. You're sure that you're supposed to be alarmed by the presence next to you, but you can't quite think enough to place why.

You feel around at the hand holding yours in an attempt to discern whose it is. There are only three fingers. Three sharp fingers clad in a (leather? maybe?) glove. People are supposed to have more than that. You know this means something, but your hazy mind can't quite make out what that is. It sends a shiver of panic down your spine as your breath quickens.

In response, another three fingered hand tentatively holds you and begins to soothe circles into your shoulder with its thumb. You think it's a thumb, at least. Does it even have thumbs? You can't help but relax into whatever is trying to soothe you. A part of you knows that you should be alarmed, that whatever is right next to you and trying to bring you back in to reality is a threat of some sort.

You're so tired, and this is the first time in a long time that anyone has tried to offer you any sort of valuable comfort.

It shifts you in to its lap, keeping one of its hands on your left while it wraps its other arm around you. Whatever it is, it's strong, maneuvering you without any strain.

The body beneath you isn't warm. It's inhumanly cold,

HEAVENS with an Autistic S/O

I didn't think that the scenario I did of STARISH with an Autistic S/O would do very well, but thank you all for proving me wrong! I thought I'd continue that scenario with the other groups as well since you all seemed to enjoy the first one I did.

If this ends up being really long, I apologize. HEAVENS happens to be my favorite group out of the three and I got really excited about writing this.

On with the scenario!

Yamato Hyuga -

- His understanding is most likely going to be limited, so it's best if you tell him how your autism affects you. He'd be more helpful that way too.

- He'll be more protective of you, but not because he thinks you're incapable of protecting yourself. He just understands what it's like to be in a world that's not very respectful or accepting of you because of something you don't have a lot of control over.

- He can be a little intense and loud at times, but he'll try his best to tone it down for you if it bothers you too much.

- Since he's not the most perceptive guy out there, he's thankful that your stims make it easier for him to tell how you're feeling.

- Would be incredibly flustered if you ever stim with his hair or hands. Like his STARISH counterpart, he'd act pretty indifferent about it, but he'd be terrible at lying about his true feelings.

- Come on, Yamato. That blush on your face is fooling no one. Lol

- Non-verbal or semi-verbal? No problem! He'll get you a notebook and pen so that you can communicate with him.

- He wouldn't mind at all if you infodump about your special interest. He might actually infodump back if your special interest happens to be anything sports-related.

- Surprisingly, he's pretty calm and collected during your meltdowns. He'll try to get you to a less overwhelming environment and stay with you until you calm down.

- He'll stay back as much as possible to give you some space, especially since he's not that great at handling others' emotions at first. If you ask him to hold you, though, he'd be more than happy to do that if it helps you feel better.

Eiji Otori -

- Once you tell him that you're autistic, this man immediately starts doing some of his own research on what it means to be autistic.

- He'll even ask you for help on which things apply to you specifically so that way he can help you as much as he can or as much as you want him to.

- In his phone's memos app, he's got all your safe foods and triggers for your meltdowns written down so he never has to worry about accidentally forgetting something.

- He's a pretty perceptive person, so it's easy for him to tell how you're feeling without you having to say or do much. Your stims, however, make it easier for him to confirm his instincts.

- If you happen to have any harmful stims (i.e. pulling out your hair, banging your head against a wall, biting yourself, etc) he'll do his best to help gently redirect you into stimming in a way that's not painful.

- He loves it when you stim with his hands and he's not afraid to admit it. This is most likely the way he'll redirect you from a harmful stim.

- He happens to know a bit of sign language, so he'd be more than happy to use that to communicate with you if you want to and you are non-verbal or semi-verbal.

- Please infodump to him about your special interest. It makes him excited for you when he sees the excitement on your face as you go on about it.

- He might seem like he'd be one of those guys who panic when you have a meltdown, but he's actually good at staying calm so he can help you get through it.

- He's got one of the most soothing voices in the group and he usually keeps his distance while helping others calm themselves down, so it's no surprise that he's one of the best people to help you during one of your meltdowns.

Shion Amakusa -

- Once you tell him, he wants to know what being autistic is like for you. It's best for him to understand how it affects you so that he knows best how to help you.

- There's a good chance that he can relate to some of your struggles with being autistic, especially if you have problems with communication or managing stress since he has problems with those sometimes too.

- It's also very easy for Shion to tell how you're feeling without you having to say much, but your stimming pretty much confirms his instincts.

- He might panic a little if you happen to stim in a harmful way before trying to redirect you into stimming in a painless way. After all, he doesn't like seeing you get hurt.

- If you stim with his hair, there's a 99.5 percent chance that he's going to fall asleep. How can he help that though if it's so relaxing for him?

- Since he himself tends to not talk much, he'd be more understanding than others if you happen to be non-verbal or semi-verbal. He'd also be sure to carry an extra notepad and pen with him in case you need it.

- Please infodump to him about your special interest, and expect him to do the same about HEAVENS or about the cool birds he's seen while birdwatching.

- He might be a bit worried at first when it comes to you having a meltdown, but he's able to calm himself down relatively quickly once he realizes what's going on.

- He'd be a bit more helpful if you like physical touch to help you recover from a meltdown, but you may want to tell him to ease up a little on his hugs before he accidentally squeezes you too hard.

Van Kiryuin -

- Like Yamato, his understanding is also most likely going to be limited at best. The best way to help him understand is by explaining how your autism affects you.

- He might forget from time to time if there's something that bothers you - especially if it has something to do with loud noises, since he's a pretty loud person - but he'll immediately apologize if and when he realizes that he's upset you.

- He finds your stimming pretty rad! It's also a relief for him that your stims make it easier for him to tell how you're feeling, since he's not exactly one of the most perceptive guys out there.

- He'd absolutely get matching spinner rings with you and would melt if you stim with his hands or the ring he wears.

- Don't feel guilty about infodumping to him, he thinks it's adorable when your face lights up as you go on and on about your special interest!

- You bet he has a notepad and pen on hand with him if you happen to be non-verbal or semi-verbal and accidentally forget your communication devices somehow.

- He'd be more than happy to be your voice if you asked him to.

- At first, he might start to worry a bit when he first witnesses your meltdowns, but once he realizes what's going on, it doesn't take him long to calm himself down before trying to help you in any way he can.

- As much as he just wants to hold you close and never let go when you're having a meltdown, he knows that that might not be helpful for you or might make things worse. He'd never do anything without your explicit consent.

Eiichi Otori -

- He can be a very intense person to be around, especially when he's excited or passionate about something.

- With someone whose personality is as bold and as confident as his, though, it's difficult to not have the same level of self-confidence he does.

- He finds your stimming adorable! To be fair, he finds pretty much anything you do adorable. You're his angel, after all.

- Be warned: he might fall asleep if you stim with his hair. Especially after a long or particularly difficult day.

- If he heard you repeating his signature "iiiii~" to yourself, he'd be delighted! This might set off the two of you to repeating the catchphrase to each other until one of the other HEAVENS members tell you to keep it down lol

- Don't feel bad about infodumping to him about your special interest. This goes double if your special interest has anything to do with cars.

- He loves seeing your eyes light up with excitement as you talk about your special interest, so he doesn't mind at all if you infodump!

- He'd be honored to be your voice if you ask him to do so. He also happens to know a bit of sign language, so don't worry about communication if you're non-verbal or semi-verbal.

- If you prefer to communicate through writing, he'd get you a notebook and pen that's related to your special interest.

- As one of the more perceptive members of HEAVENS, it's easy for him to tell when you're about to have a meltdown. That way, he can help get you out of whatever environment the two of you are in at the moment and into a less overwhelming environment as quickly as possible.

- He'll ask you what he can do to help you calm down faster, as he never wants to assume what will help you calm down and accidentally make you feel worse.

Nagi Mikado -

- He'd be another one to initially be offended or put off by some of your behaviors, but he'd immediately feel guilty for judging you so quickly once you explain that you're autistic.

- There's no way he'd admit it to you, but one of the first things he did once you told him was to do his own research on what being autistic is like and secretly joining an online forum by and for other autistic people so that way he can better understand how to help you.

- He'd tread lightly on teasing you a bit for some of the ways you stim, especially since he knows that you might take it the wrong way and that there's a chance that might not understand that he was joking.

- If he finds out that he did make you feel bad about it, though, he will immediately apologize.

- "Ah, (S/O)! I was just kidding about that! I didn't mean to make you sad! ... Hey, why don't we go get (favorite food) so I can make it up to you?"

- He, like Yamato, would be incredibly flustered if you stim with his hands or hair. He'd pretend to not like it, but he secretly loves it when you do.

- He doesn't mind you infodumping to him at all. In fact, it helps him stay focused on getting schoolwork done while you get to talk about your special interest.

- If you're non-verbal or semi-verbal and happen to use sign language to communicate, he'd be very interested in learning sign as well as trying to teach some of what he learns to the rest of the HEAVENS members.

- Be warned, though, his method of "teaching" may or may not include him pranking the other members to believe that something that's actually wildly inappropriate actually means something cool or a compliment. He mostly does this to try to cheer you up if you're in a bad mood.

- Not me now imagining Nagi teaching Yamato that the phrase "I'm a little shit" actually means something like "I'm the strongest and coolest member of HEAVENS" or some bs like that lmao

- He knows that he's not the best when it comes to helping someone in a highly emotional state, so he usually keeps his distance once he knows you're having a meltdown. He makes sure to let you know where he is and how to reach him if you do need to hear his voice or for him to at least be in the room with you, though.

Kira Sumeragi -

- Much like his STARISH counterpart, he becomes a lot more protective of you once you tell him you're autistic.

- You can bet that he's got all your safe foods and triggers for your meltdowns memorized and written down in a notebook he keeps in his room and saved in the memos app on his phone. You'll never have to worry about him forgetting anything that might make you uncomfortable.

- Like Eiji, Kira is also pretty good at telling how you're feeling at any given time. Your stimming would help him confirm what his instincts are telling him, though.

- His way of redirecting you from harming yourself while stimming is to take your hands and let you stim with his hair or his hands.

- While he likes it when you stim with his hair, he definitely got a little flustered the first time you did.

- He learned sign language from one of his many tutors while growing up, and he'd be more than happy to teach it to you if you want to learn and you're non-verbal or semi-verbal.

- He'd also teach the rest of HEAVENS some sign language so that they can understand what you are try to say. He most likely wouldn't trick them like Nagi would unless they did something to upset him and he wants revenge

- The way your face lights up when you infodump about your special interest is really adorable to him, so he has no problems with you infodumping.

- Again, like his STARISH counterpart, he's really good at preventing meltdowns from happening. If the two of you were about to be in a situation that he knows is triggering for you, he'd do his best to either lure you away from the situation or to distract you somehow.

- If none of that works, though, he stays a safe distance from you as he helps you to calm down from whatever it was that bothered you.

since I apparently hold the power to make people love jiang cheng, I've decided to use this ability to make y'all start treating wen ning right. here are some reasons wen ning is the only boy that matters and isn't a uwu baby tm:

- he's literally just always trying his best. he's a little bit of a fool but his goal is always to help and he never half asses anything

- remember when wei wuxian said wen ning is an extremely talented archer? stop ignoring that

- we all talk about how much lan wangji and jiang yanli and jiang cheng love wei wuxian but wen ning also loves him So much. he's so incredibly loyal to wei wuxian and literally the only person who stayed by his side through everything. like I know there are several circumstances that prevented other people from staying with him (like, yknow, death) but it just makes me feel a lot that wen ning has been there for wei wuxian through everything he's had to suffer :"

- that whole sequence in yi city where he's just fully going ham. wei wuxian isn't even controlling him he's just Doing That to keep everyone else is safe. I love him

- he fucking kept the charm wei wuxian gave him until he died. he kept it on him at all times. he fucking held it in his hands as he died. I can't fucking handle this

- the Looks he gives wei wuxian whenever some gay shit is happening with lan wangji are... Priceless

- he loves sizhui so much. he loves him SO much. the scene where wen ning saves the lotus soup and feeds it to him.... how emotional he gets when he realizes lan sizhui is a yuan...

- that boy really does love with his whole heart. he's very mild mannered but when he cares about someone he Cares About Them. he's so loyal and so caring. I need a moment. I need a fucking moment

- that whole scene where he goes Off on jiang cheng about the golden core. need I fucking say more

- actually, I do need to say more. this scene not only makes me fully lose it because it's fucking badass but it also just shows how brave wen ning is like it's just Such a powerful fucking moment. the fact that he keeps getting up despite jiang cheng whipping him with zidian. how he's so determined to stand up for wei wuxian. wen ning knows everything wei wuxian has been through and in that moment he's just had Enough. he promised wei wuxian that he wouldn't tell anyone about the golden core but jiang cheng just knocked his best friend unconscious and he can't fucking do it anymore. it's such a raw moment because a lot of times wen ning is framed as being very eager to please and mild mannered and agreeable, and he is, but this scene makes it clear that wen ning is also brave and passionate and angry thanks for coming to my goddamn ted talk

- another scene that shows how brave and caring wen ning is: in the temple when he's literally doing Everything He Can to control the saber. *chefs kiss*

- despite everything he's still just so kind and caring and manages to continue to be such a sweetheart constantly

- hes just so fucking cool like he's such a badass have you SEEN him

- he's just ALWAYS helping people. when he saves the yunmeng siblings. when he takes medicine to wei wuxian. fuck

- it's literally canon that he cooks and is good at it. like first of all, stop saying he's a helpless innocent cinnamon roll who knows no life skills I Will stab you. and second of all, that's just so sweet I love him so much he cooks for people he cares about I'm tearing up a little bit

- he loved wen qing so much I'm simply Weeping the baby brother in me Cannot do this

- the fucking radish scene. how could you not cherish and adore this man

Fantastic ending to a very good book its, definitely a different energy from the third but I'm really enjoying this I'm still excited as hell!!! I got worried things would get kinda bad from here but nope!!!! Very fun stuff for now this is very very good and I am enjoying it

This is definitely one of the most fun arcs I've read so far!!! The drama the stakes the little moments everything is tying together really well into a very fun story I'm enjoying a lot!

I worry for Twigpaw and hope for her happiness, and Violetshine too, hope her and Hawkwing deal well with missing her. Tree is being interesting. Alderheart wasn't much of a focus here but always fun to see him trying to solve the damn prophecy no leaders seem to care about. Mousewhisker was okay??? Lots of very fantastic turns for all events and uh let's see where this all goes next!!!

Why I think Shigeo Kageyama (Mob) is autistic

Quick word before analysis:

I don’t know what the author of mob psycho 100% had in mind when he created this character. This is only me sharing my point of view. Take it for what it’s worth.

Autism is a spectrum, the following characteristics don’t represent its entirety. Also english isn’t my language. I’m just doing my best to convey my thoughts ^^

1. Lies, being fooled, implicit meanings

Since the first episode, Shigeo is a character that appears to be very gullible and is often qualified of “softy”.He clearly has trouble telling if people are lying to him or having malicious intent. He seems to believe everything that he’s told as if other people were as honest as him (sad truth being that they’re not).

Some people might just see this as an endearing character trait or a quirk but I think this is a first hint at autism. Most people on the spectrum have trouble to distinguish between lies and truth or sarcasm and honesty because we have difficulty reading between the lines.

There are so many examples of this side of him like the fact that he doesn’t even suspect Reigen of lying to him about having psychic abilities or him not thinking that Dimple (エクボ) has malicious intent when he follows him around. But I think the following dialogue summarise this point perfectly:

2. meltdown (the whole 0-100% concept)

First of all what is a meltdown? A meltdown is “an intense response to overwhelming situations. It happens when someone becomes completely overwhelmed by their current situation and temporarily loses behavioural control. This loss of control can be expressed verbally (shouting, screaming, crying), physically (kicking, lashing out, biting) or in both ways”.

Shigeo being in a cycle of slowly getting to 100% and exploding with psychic powers is really similar to the way meltdowns work. We see him getting through the day accumulating small things like unexpected events, social interactions, conflicting feelings or an overload of sensations all of which bring him closer to loosing control of his emotions.

In my opinion this sounds exactly like a meltdown.

3.  facial expression

Something quite common for people with autism is to have trouble expressing feelings not only with words but also with facial expressions that don’t match what we’re trying to convey. Mob isn’t expressionless but the changes between his usual face and his others expressions are quite subtle.

4. Lacking social skills

His problems in socialisation are obvious from the start but it becomes even more prominent in the third episode of season 1 with Dimple’s sect. This episode shows us how Mob was always left out of group with children his age because he simply couldn’t read the atmosphere.

In the anime this line is translated by “get a clue” but it doesn’t really match the Japanese words used here “空気を読む” which means “read the situation/sense the mood”. Also I think it’s worth mentioning that in episode 4  he literally names it the “reading-in-the-mood technique” (空気を読む技術). This just illustrates how non-natural this is to him.

Again this is something anyone on the spectrum can probably relate to. Mob is clearly hurt by people constantly telling him to read the mood when he just can’t! 

5. Trouble expressing feelings:

In the same episode with Dimple and his sect, it is made very clear that Shigeo has two difficulties: Reading the mood and expressing how he feels. It’s not that he doesn’t want to smile I’d even say that at one point (when Dimple uses his power on him and it doesn’t work) he wants to laugh like everyone else but he can’t. 

Dimple then assumes that Mob has no emotions which leads to him saying this:

How many times have people on the spectrum heard this because they couldn’t read and express emotions the same way than most people do? My heart sank when he said that to Mob...

6. Monotone voice

I didn’t find a video of just Mob talking to illustrate this but it’s really obvious in the anime (I only watch in VO so I don’t know about the dub). Mob always talk with the same tone except when he’s at 100%

This is also something widely experienced by people with autism who often say something with the “wrong” tone of voice and it ends up sounding mean, sarcastic or uninterested.

7. bad at sports

This might seem unimportant but I found interesting that Mob was introduced to us as someone absolutely terrible in sports because usually heroes in Shonen mangas are more on the athletic side.

While Mob being bad at sports doesn’t automatically means he’s autistic, I think this is a hint more in that direction as most people on the spectrum are often affected by dyspraxia.

What is dyspraxia? Dyspraxia is “a form of developmental coordination disorder (DCD) is a common disorder affecting fine and/or gross motor coordination in children and adults”.

8. Bullied in parallel reality

So season 2 is incomplete for now but I just watched episode 5 and I decided to add this point to my list. Apparently some people are arguing about the accuracy of the version of mob in the parallel reality that Mogami showed him. In my opinion it was very accurate.

Mob’s environnement is perfect for him. His power (even thought he doesn’t use it much in his daily life) helps him connecting with others (his brother, Reigen, bodybuilding club,...). Because he is in such a good environnement he can thrive and become a better version of himself.

Not everyone is born with the chance Mob has. Growing up in a loving family, making caring friends, having kind teachers or meeting an adult that will guide you...These are probably things most of us wish were part of our life. Especially for neurodivergent people that are often confronted to rejection.

In my opinion this episode showed very well how people who identifies with mob’s characteristics are actually treated in the real world. In a world where they don’t have a cool power that creates ties with other people. In a world where the harsh reality of being bullied, hit, ignored, mocked and harassed is common for people that are considered “different”.

This episode physically hurt me while watching but I hope I was able to make a point without being too emotional. 

Conclusion:

So that’s it. These are the main reasons why I think Shigeo is on the autism spectrum. There are still a few but they would be more arguable so I’m going to keep these to myself. Feel free to disagree with my opinion but please be respectful.

In the end I think this show contains so many powerful life advices that can help anyone who’s neurodivergent. Mob is such a wonderful character and I’m glad others are not making a fool out of him like it would have been the case in so many others anime/TV shows.

I’d like to conclude with a quote of Reigen. This is in my opinion one of the best speech in the history of anime:

“Listen, just because you have psychic powers doesn’t change the fact that you’re a human. People who run fast, people good at studying or people with strong body odour. Psychic powers are just another characteristic. You must embrace that as a part of yourself and continue to live positively. The truth behind one’s charm is kindness. Become a good person. That’s all.”
