“Trumpet of death” is actually a misleading name, as these mushrooms are highly sought after for being edible. They are also known as “horn of plenty” and can be found in autumn. They do, however, have several poisonous lookalikes.

I mean, with a name like that I gotta draw something dramatic. Honestly I kinda turned my brain off for most of this drawing, except for the hands (I have not learned my lesson in looking up references and freestyled them which was a bad idea)

the black parade resemblance is uncanny but it was completely on accident. ummm this is just my silly guy i dunno what to say. i had a bunch of Symbolism and Mythological References that i was thinking about while designing em but my brain just stopped processing at some point and i don’t have a coherent explanation for it anymore

🍄 probably owes its name to its growing towards the beginning of November;

🍄 is also called horn of plenty;

🍄 the cornucopia, or horn of plenty, was called the "horn of Amalthea", after the goat Amalthea.

🍄 (Since it's the trumpet of death, the cornucopia is empty - Or maybe it contains things invisible to the human eye.)

you can see where i was going with the literal trumpet of death :))

originally my friend suggested something should be blowing the trumpet. so basically…

friend 1: you shld draw a squirrel blowing the trumpet

friend 2: no a skeleton

friend 1: no a squirrel skeleton

friends 1n2: YEAHHHHHHHH

and i tried drawing the squirrel skeleton but my references were all kind of bad and i started screwing it up real bad so i ditched the squirrel and went with regular skeleton

I feel very mushroom biased some of these funguary posts I have spent hours compiling research and formatting it nicely, I've even used paper sources and cited studies on a some of them, then for some like the Crepidotus I can't find anything interesting, spend five minutes on it, and give up.

I'm sorry T-T

I promise I'm trying my best, some of these fungi are just basic

It's probably going to keep coming and going in cycles, this end of an era.

The emotions will rise when you see art or writing that reminds you, or a song that makes you think of them. And it's okay to mourn this change.

I love you all, I'll miss your unique touches and the lore you brought. The chaos you created. The people you connected. The friends you made. The people you now love.

I will remember your stories forever, and still create using the characters you gave us [if it's okay 💕]
