🤔 Seems like a slight stretch. Maybe more like a description of Madam Red at parties or even just telling jokes, and how she's a rare female doctor of the time. Nell Gwyn's mother was often called Madam Gwyn and apparently ran a brothel, where Nell claims she personally only served alcohol to the patrons, though others claim she was also a prostitute there as a child. Nell supposedly influenced Charles II to open a hospital (retirement and nursing home for veterans) and suggested red coats for the pensioners there. Oh, but she was apparently the mistress of Charles II (not Louis) and bore him two sons. She was definitely reported to have quite a scathing wit, and there's an anecdote claiming she once added strong laxatives to cakes (or something) eaten by a rival of hers (as the king's mistress).

Of course, we already have Grelle Sutcliff getting that last name from Peter Sutcliffe, aka the Yorkshire Ripper. And Grelle or Grell meaning loud (like a bold, bright color) or glaring, or to mean someone who is easily annoyed (and annoying) and irritable. One of my older posts about Thelema also mentions Peter Sutcliffe, just briefly. (Note: the website linked in that old post about Thelema is full of mistakes and draws a lot of ridiculous conclusions about modern Satanism, so there's not much point in reading the website's article.) Peter Sutcliffe was a modern serial killer and died of covid, while still in prison. I have more posts about him (and his childless wife), but I can't seem to find them right now. I'll probably just reblog later if I can find any of the other posts.

In digging into my old notes, I came across this gem on Grelle. Not sure if it already got covered by someone else, but if I forgot about it, maybe others have as well. I think I have discovered Grelle’s actual origin in real life!  I was watching a documentary called “Decline of British Dukedom:  The Last Dukes” from Real Royalty on YouTube.  It brought up a duchy created from the bastard child of King Louis and “Nell Gwyn” a famous stage actress of the time.  She has red hair, dresses in red, with a salty tongue, who was one of the first actual FEMALE actresses and did cross-dressing roles!  (Just gender flip and we have Grell.  Even the name “Grell” is a blend of Gwynn and Nell).  Nell is short for Eleanor.  Gwyn was spelled Gwyn, Gwynn, or even Gwynne. @abybweisse @shinigami-mistress @tirnelsutcliff

In kuro tarot news, I did the at home budget version of gilding the deck edges by purchasing a cheap DIY deck and then painting the sides with glitter cra-z art paint LOL I actually so hype abt how it came out?? Like I finally feel like maybe I can actually achieve this thing without making a huge scary investment upfront. The idea is that I print the finished artwork to sticker paper and affix it to the cards, then laminate them. I’m not sure how it’ll come out but I have some confidence that it’ll look fairly decent for a handmade item 🤷‍♀️

As for other developments… well, not much to speak of lol. I have sketches for about 16 cards done which is not nearly enough 😱😱 Thanks to @truedarkhunter for giving me some additional ideas for potential card designs and also for supporting my project I appreciate it!

🤡 for a crack theory

@truedarkhunter I’ve mentioned it a time or two before, in older posts, but the biggest crack theory I have for the reaper glasses Anderson makes is them having homing or tracking devices in them.

Active reapers are willing to wear them because of their nearsightedness, and it would help explain two major things:

Why William was able to track down Grelle so quickly after Madam Red was killed

Why deserting reapers might be able to sneak out their death scythes... but don’t keep their special glasses. They don’t want to be found too easily. Particularly if they kept their death scythes....

If this turns out to be true, then The Most Beautiful Death in the World got one part right and one part wrong:

Right: Eric and Alan remove their glasses and set them down when they make their pact to desert the reaper organization.

Wrong: Eric should have been tracked down by William as soon as he committed his first murder.

Considering how Yana-san has included so many anachronistic elements in the series, I tend to suspend disbelief and assume they are using some early refrigeration technology. It might be as simple as packing the carriages with blocks of ice.

• Had a fascination with anything grisly since he was young. His parents definitely found it concerning, lol.

• Is of Italian descent - either partly or wholly, idk. (Found this hc floating around on here and I fw it since then, lol.) I like to think he’s a quarter English but otherwise very Italian. He’s been in England for quite a bit of his adult life and all of the afterlife, though.

• I did think “Othello” was his birth name as he says most Reapers just go by what they did when they were alive and seems surprised at UT wanting to use his registration number instead. However, a mutual of mine (truedarkhunter) said that it could very well be an alias. Regardless, the Italian spelling of the name would be “Otello” as there’s no “th” sound linguistically in the language. So his name was probably originally spelled “Otello”, but then he anglicised it.

• His surname is Maggio. Just fits, lol. Regarding my point above: I like thinking that Otello/Othello is a middle name that he just prefers going by, lol. If that’s the case, his full name could be Remo Otello Savio Maggio.

• This is gonna be a common one, but yeah. It would make sense if he did become a Reaper after killing his wife/partner after mistakenly believing she was unfaithful and then killing himself out of guilt, thus creating a parallel between him and his fictional namesake.

• However, I don’t see him as the jealous type. This is a take some may have, but I’m personally turned off majorly by jealously and any kind of over-possessiveness.

He’s very self-assured and relaxed when he is in a relationship, but takes commitment and fidelity extremely seriously. He’d sometimes be jocularly, semi-ironically possessive towards his partner and lowkey smug in certain situations - if she’s with child, for instance. But aside from that, he’s a mature man and respects that she has her own life outside of their relationship.

• His eating habits are all over the fucking place. Man lives off instant noodles on his busiest days, or even flat out forgets to eat, skipping up to two meals a day. But when he does finally sit his ass down, he can put away twice his weight in food and even asks for dessert.

• Cannot cook to save his life. Toast and instant noodles are the most he can do - he’d even fuck up boiling an egg.

• Has absolutely no sleep schedule whatsoever. Sometimes passed out by seven, sometimes awake until four in the morning. No wonder he has those eye bags, lol.

• As a human, he was the youngest of five children and the only boy. Definitely got bullied by his elder sisters, too - they probably called him “runt” or “pipsqueak”. Poor guy, lmao. But growing up with them around is part of why he’s the sort who drinks his Respect Women Juice.

• Is lowkey hairy. 😂 idk why I even had this hc, lol. And definitely not because I’m into hairy men myself.

He’d have a decent amount of body hair on his chest, arms, legs, and back - especially chest and legs. But he still can’t grow a beard to save his life. Most he can manage is a goatee or stubble.

Somebody please ask me about my version of Othello and my hcs for him 😭
