Expanding Your Horizons with Delivery Services
Tumblr media
Companies continually seek ways to build customer relationships that go beyond the product itself, fostering loyalty. One method gaining popularity is offering delivery routing software to customers. With social distancing and stricter in-store regulations, providing delivery services has become essential for business viability. The New York Times reported a nearly 40% increase in online consumer spending at the pandemic's peak, while in-person shopping had already declined as younger consumers favored online options.
Delivery costs can be substantial, comprising up to 30% of the total meal cost (TMC), and food deliveries can reach as high as 45%. These costs are challenging to hide within product prices and are often waived as a competitive advantage. Traditionally, companies relied on third-party delivery services, but many, like Amazon, are now developing their own. The explosive growth of digitally-enabled delivery services underscores the value customers place on convenience and variety. McKinsey projects the digital food delivery market will reach $22 billion by 2025, prompting many companies to internalize their delivery services to tap into this revenue.
Well-managed delivery services can enhance customer loyalty, reduce emergency response costs, maintain control over customer data, and streamline the delivery process. They can also be a revenue source and boost margins if effectively managed. Conversely, poorly managed services can be costly.
To plan and execute deliveries effectively, companies are adopting delivery management solutions to streamline their services. Organizing routes and building efficient delivery plans are crucial for lowering operational costs.
NetScore’s Delivery Routing application, built on the NetSuite ERP system, offers a comprehensive planning solution for dispatch route organization. It includes a mobile application providing drivers with necessary delivery tools.
Effective organization is key to successful delivery operations. As sales orders are processed in NetSuite Delivery Routing system generates delivery orders, using geo-point mapping to create stops. A rule-based system controls route building, managing order numbers, truck capacity, and transit times. Dispatch route planner can be adjusted according to preferences and assigned to drivers.
Fleet vehicle tracking ensures drivers follow the most efficient routes and stay on schedule. NetScore allows planners to view graphical route representations and receive real-time updates. A map view shows driver locations, enabling route adjustments as needed. Delivery orders can be reassigned if a vehicle breaks down or additional help is required.
Simplifying drivers' tasks is crucial for cost-effective route planning software. Effective route plans ensure proper truck loading in reverse stop order. NetScore’s solution provides route plans usable as picking or loading documents to position orders correctly for truck management system.
Executing the route plan is vital for timely, cost-effective deliveries. Mobile applications equip drivers with powerful tools for delivery execution. NetScore’s Delivery Routing solution offers:
- Graphical route depictions
- Travel time between stops
- Turn-by-turn instructions
- Order contents
- Customer delivery alerts
- Reasons for delivery cancellations
Proof of delivery is crucial, capturing signatures, photographing product drops, and noting key delivery information. NetScore’s mobile app facilitates quick data collection, automatically uploading it to the backend system and attaching it to the delivery record. Integration with Google Drive helps store pictures and signatures, minimizing NetSuite data storage.
Expanding delivery operations can optimize company benefits. Functions like picking up returns, accepting payments, and collecting products based on purchase orders during delivery routes are advantageous. NetScore’s Delivery Routing application integrates these features into your NetSuite system and mobile application.

Hils Watches Lovely Runner - Ep 16
Can't believe I'm at the end already. I forget that althought kdrama episodes are long there's a lot less of them
Tumblr media
Of course he escaped. This dude really is like the terminator
Going under the cut because I don't want to spoil the ending
Tumblr media
Well in a twist of irony he got hit by a truck and knocked into the river, which is what he did to Im Sol before this drama even started. I'm assuming he's not coming back from this and the rest of the drama will be about Im Sol and Sunjae sorting out their relationship
Tumblr media
Oh. I thought that was going to take longer. There's still over an hour left to go on the episode!
Tumblr media
They are so damn cute I can't deal with it
Tumblr media
Poor Taesung. While Im Sol and Sunjae are snuggling and being adorable he's all beaten up and feels bad that someone died that he was chasing. He's a good boy. I want him to be happy.
Tumblr media
Sunjae: I want to buy cake for my perfect girlfriend but no one can so we're dating so I'll just buy cake for everyone. I'm so smart.
I love him
Tumblr media
I love that he's acting all cool but we all know what a nerd he is
Tumblr media
I don't care how sweet and handsome he is if someone started pokling me while I was trying to write that laptop would be coming down on his head
Tumblr media
Like that
Tumblr media
I was going to use my usual congrats on the sex gif but they are still fully clothed so I guess they just snuggled
Tumblr media
Yeah, I'm glad that they're all happy and in love now but I think they both have a ton of trauma that they probably need to work through at some point
Tumblr media
I love that even Im Sol joking about them being married made Sunjae's brain go offline
Tumblr media
Made his brain go offline and made him decide that actually, yes, he does want to marry her. LOL I can't wait to see how this conversation goes
Tumblr media
I love Taesung so much
Tumblr media
Aww they have to get drunk and bond in every timeline
Tumblr media
I know they're a band rather an an idol group but imagine being at a baby's birthday party and BTS or someone like that shows up to perform
Tumblr media
I love grandma so much
Tumblr media
Yeah, I'm, crying too
Tumblr media
He had his 5 minutes of being a cool celebrity and now he's back to being a dork again
Tumblr media
I'm really glad they haven't gone down the route of 'she has the man she loves and that's all she needs for her happy ending'. Look at her being awesome as a movie director. Love it!
Tumblr media
Heh that looks very similar to the software I used to when I tried to learn video editing. Ironically I decided it was too time consuming as a hobby so I decided to do gifmaking instead which is just as time consuming
Tumblr media
Aww yay! I really enjoyed this! I don't watch a whole lot of het romance dramas but I'm really glad I watched this one. I absolutely loved it!

The Internet: From Nuclear-Resistant to Vendor-Dependent Dumbassery
Back in the day, when the Internet was just a glint in DARPA's eye, it was designed with one crucial concept in mind: survival. Picture this—it's the Cold War, the threat of nuclear Armageddon looms large, and the military bigwigs are sweating bullets about communication breakdowns. They needed a network that could withstand a nuke dropping on a major hub and still keep the flow of information alive. Enter the ARPANET, the badass granddaddy of the modern Internet, built to have no single point of failure. If one part got nuked, the rest would carry on like nothing happened. Resilient as hell.
Fast forward to today, and what do we have? A digital house of cards. The once mighty and decentralized Internet has become a fragile mess where a single vendor bug can knock out entire swathes of the web. How did we go from a network that could shrug off nuclear bombs to one that craps its pants over a software glitch? Let's dive into this clusterfuck.
The Glory Days of Decentralization
The original ARPANET was all about redundancy and resilience. The network was designed so that if any one part failed—be it from a technical issue or a catastrophic event—data could still find another route. It was a web of interconnected nodes, a spider's web that kept spinning even if you tore a chunk out. It was pure genius.
This approach made perfect sense. The whole point was to ensure that critical military communications could continue even in the aftermath of a disaster. The Internet Protocol (IP), the backbone of how data travels on the Internet, was conceived to route around damage and keep on trucking. No single point of failure meant no single point of catastrophic breakdown. Brilliant, right?
The Rise of Centralized Stupidity
Then came the tech giants. Companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft built empires that depended on centralization. Cloud computing took off, and suddenly, everyone and their grandma was storing their data on a handful of massive servers owned by these big players. It was convenient, it was efficient, but it was also the beginning of the end for the Internet’s robust decentralization.
Today, we've got massive data centers dotted around the globe, each housing thousands of servers. These centers are like Fort Knox for data, but unlike Fort Knox, they’re not immune to problems. A single screw-up—a bug in a software update, a misconfiguration, or even a physical hardware failure—can take down huge chunks of the web. Remember that time when AWS went down and half the Internet went dark? Yeah, that was fun. Or more recently, Cloudstrike do something retarded and every single Windows machine running their shitware gets bricked. Fantastic.
The Single Vendor Blues
It gets worse. The consolidation of Internet services means that many critical applications and websites rely on the same vendors for infrastructure. If one of these vendors messes up, it's not just their services that go down—it's everyone who depends on them too. It’s like having a whole city’s power grid depending on one dodgy generator. One hiccup, and the lights go out for everyone.
Consider the infamous BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) hijacks and leaks. BGP is how routers figure out the best path for data to travel across the Internet. It's crucial, and it's also vulnerable. A single misconfiguration or malicious attack can reroute traffic, causing widespread outages and security breaches. And because so much of the Internet is funneled through a few major ISPs (Internet Service Providers), the impact can be catastrophic.
Why This Is So Fucking Stupid
So, why is it that we’ve allowed the Internet to become this fragile? It boils down to a mix of convenience, cost-cutting, and plain old shortsightedness. Centralized services are easier to manage and cheaper to run. But this efficiency comes at the cost of resilience. We’ve traded the robustness of a decentralized network for the convenience of cloud services and single-vendor solutions.
The result? A network that can be crippled by a single point of failure. This isn’t just stupid—it’s dangerous. It leaves us vulnerable to attacks, outages, and other disruptions that could have far-reaching consequences. It’s a stark reminder that in our quest for efficiency, we’ve neglected one of the core principles that the Internet was founded on: resilience.
The Way Forward
What’s the solution? We need to get back to basics. Decentralization should be a priority. More diversity in service providers, more redundancy in infrastructure, and more focus on designing systems that can withstand failures. It won’t be easy, and it won’t be cheap, but if we want an Internet that can survive the challenges of the future, it’s absolutely necessary.
So next time you hear about a massive outage caused by a single vendor’s screw-up, remember: it didn’t have to be this way. We built an Internet that could survive a nuclear war, and then we broke it because it was cheaper and easier. It’s time to fix that before the next big failure hits.
There you have it, folks. From invincible to idiotic, the Internet’s journey has been a wild ride. Let’s hope we can steer it back on course before it’s too late. - Raz.

What is Enterprise Fleet Management?
Tumblr media
As is revealed in today’s world business environment, any organization must manage its resources appropriately. Thus, for companies and firms having major operations related to transportation and logistics, it becomes even more essential to manage their fleets.
Now, let’s start with the basics: what does enterprise fleet management mean? Now let’s discuss this idea and figure out how it can be of great benefit to the business processes.
Understanding what is Enterprise Fleet Management
Fleet management within an enterprise could be described as a strategic approach to managing and supervising such a company's vehicle fleet. The areas include its acquisition and maintenance, driver and vehicle management, and laws governing the automobile industry. Fleet management is prospective to optimize the operating costs and enhance the safety and productivity of both fleets and their drivers.
In an enterprise environment, fleet management goes beyond tracking the vehicles; it is more about getting improved ways of running organizations. Fleet management is important irrespective of whether it involves delivery vans, trucks, or even corporate cars if the business owns a set of cars for business use.
The outcome highlights the fundamental issues of fleet management.
Vehicle Acquisition and Disposal: Picking the correct car for your fleet, beginning from procurement to the time of disposal.
Maintenance and Repair: Managing to schedule vehicles for maintenance and repairs regularly to make sure that they are in good working condition to reduce time loss.
Fuel Management: Fuel efficiency management by controlling consumption and considering these to minimize fuel expenses by using fuel-efficient driving techniques and other energy resources.
Driver Management: Incorporating training and supervision of drivers as well as planning meals nt to support safety, compliance, and efficiency among the drivers.
Compliance and Risk Management: The safety of all the used vehicles as well as the used drivers with brutal and international requirements and managing of risk exposures of operating fleets.
Here we will discuss the concept of Fleet Management Software. Inefficiently managing all these components, many businesses turn to the use of fleet management software. This is because it acts as a platform for accessing any information regarding the fleet, including real-time data and automated operations of the fleet.
Key Features of Fleet Management Software
GPS Tracking: Precise vehicle location in real-time to increase efficiency and controllers.
Maintenance Scheduling: Schedule reminders in case of preventive maintenance and repairs to avoid ‘bottlenecks Management: Proper equipment that tracks fuel usage and gives an indication of wasteful activities.
Compliance Management: Material properties garages need to comply with set safety measures as well as regulatory requirements.
Driver Performance Monitoring: Measures to monitor and measure drivers’s performance, detect their training requirements, and incentivize them over safe behavior on roads.
Why Enterprise Fleet Management is So Important
To large companies, fleet management is not only limited to planning on how to ensure that vehicles are running. It’s about being able to harness data and technology in a way that will put you ahead of the competition. Effective management of fleets is known to have numerous benefits, such as cutting costs, satisfying customers, and reducing risks involving drivers and cars, among others.
However, due to emerging issues such as global warming, companies are now focusing on the use of fleets to be environmentally friendly. This is done through the optimization of routes, timely maintenance of vehicles, and training of the drivers to ensure they are conscious of the impact they make on the environment.
Being a web-based service, the most advantageous aspect related to an FMS or a Fleet Management Software Development Service is that it can be easily and effectively utilized across the corporate fleet range.
This has led to the increasing need for the development of fleet management software to be able to meet the expanding market need. Custom software, as the name suggests, is designed to improve organizational operations to suit a company’s needs, making it more flexible than packaged software.
A fleet management software development service typically includes
Consultation and Needs Assessment: Ah, awareness of the particular requirements and objectives of your fleet. You need to hire a professional fleet management software development company.
Custom Software Development: Constructing a custom fit that incorporates into the complex structures of the organization and fits the needs of the organization perfectly.
Integration with IoT Devices: The use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as GPS trackers or sensors to input real-time information and data.
Ongoing Support and Maintenance: Needed to make sure the software will continue to include all the features and incorporate the latest technologies and that it will cover all current needs of the business.
Conclusion
Okay, then, Fleet management is a system that encompasses all activities that involve control of a company’s fleet of vehicles with the use of the latest technologies in software and quality practices. Fleet management is not only a good idea but a necessity for any business that depends on transportation, where proper management of the company’s fleet is critical to achieving success.
Let it be a handful of vehicles or a multitude, the appropriate strategy in fleet management as enhanced by software changes the equation, provides steps towards optimizing your operations, lowers costs, and enhances the performance of an organization. The fast advancement of technology means that the means and ways used in the implementation of the strategies by the f managers are ever-changing and therefore a very promising industry to follow.

OK. Little late with today's post of one of the classic Firesign Theatre surreal comic audio works that inspired us in creating Life With Althaar. Previously:
1. Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him (1968)
2. How Can You Be in Two Places at Once When You're Not Anywhere at All (1969)
3. Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers (1970)
Bringing us to 1971 and the magnificent I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus.
As with their previous LP, this one was also nominated for the Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, and has an even stronger science-fiction story.
Here, the central figure is Clem (or perhaps "UhClem") played by Philip Proctor, who takes over from the previous album's George Leroy Tirebiter (the ice cream truck young Georgie was chasing at the end of Dwarf can be heard at the start here) who journeys to an amusement park, the FutureFair, with a tour group of B.O.Z.O.s (members of the Brotherhood Of Zips and Others) to take in a series of attractions detailing Humanity's great past and future achievements. Unlike Firesign's previous protagonists however, UhClem has a definite motive, involving contact with the mysterious A.I. (?) behind the entire Fair, Dr. Memory, that may turn out to be very very destructive.
The Firesigns, fascinated by technology, had spent time hanging with fans at CalTech, learning about computers and the early "chatbot"-type programs such as ELIZA (and the DOCTOR script), which wound up a huge influence on this piece and its language.
So here it is, in sides .001 and .002:
youtube
youtube
As regards the influence on Life With Althaar, I should note that the title of our Episode 8 ("Robot's Rules of Order") is a direct lift from this piece (Episode 13's title is also a Firesign reference), and as for the setting of an amusement park with artificial beings intended to celebrate Earth's past? Yeah, this record bears some responsibility.
Also, Steve Jobs, a Firehead, included a little easter egg in the Siri app if you happen to use UhClem's repeated prompt, "This is Worker speaking. Hello."
An additional note: While there is an actual vehicular "bus" in this album's storyline, it may be more helpful when considering the title to recall the audio engineering definition of "bus," that is, as Wikipedia puts it:
"a signal path that can be used to combine (sum) individual audio signal paths together. It is typically used to group several individual audio tracks which can be then manipulated, as a group, like another track. This can be achieved by routing the signal physically by ways of switches and cable patches on a mixing console, or by manipulating software features on a digital audio workstation (DAW)."
And looking back at the titles of their previous albums we can see oblique references to the technology required in sonic production itself. Mainly, that power is required, and Power should never be taken lightly. As the Firesigns often said:
"Power is trouble, and trouble's not funny."

Logistics Management 101: A Beginner's Guide
What is Logistics Management?
Logistics management may be a process within the Supply Chain management that focuses on the model of transporting and storing goods before the ultimate sale. The plan ensures that products promptly hit their destination and are kept appropriately.
Tumblr media
The logistics process starts with the delivery of raw materials and concludes with the shipment of the final product to the consumer. Managers need a comprehensive strategy to effectively coordinate the many moving parts of this lengthy process. Several factors contribute to efficient logistics management, such as-
Choosing vendors that provide transportation facilities
Finding the fastest transportation routes
Searching for the simplest delivery method
Utilizing software to automate standard processes
To avoid problems that build up, logistics managers need to take each component into account. Poor transportation management, for instance, may cause deliveries to be delayed, resulting in dissatisfied customers. Inadequate planning can also lead to impulsive decision-making, which can result in additional costs. As a result, businesses ought to concentrate on learning how to effectively oversee the various types of logistics management.
Types of Logistics Management:
There are four essential varieties of logistics management that target different phases of the availability chain:
●    Supply Management:
Supply Management entails planning, ordering, and receiving raw materials or products that are needed by a particular deadline. This needs logistics managers to seek out the simplest type of transportation and storage for the precise item.
For example, perishable foods might have to be transported in refrigerated vehicles and stored in temperature-sensitive units until they're shipped to stores. Managers also must consider the order size to make sure the mode of transportation can handle the availability volume.
●    Distribution Management:
Once the products are transported safely to storage or distribution centres, managers must determine their destination, like retail or grocery stores. This process takes time because it involves loading, transporting, and unloading items.

It offers a direct and shortest route and does not encounter any obstacles. It is suitable for carrying perishable goods. By improving the quality of the production, customers are guaranteed high-quality goods, and returns and additional logistics costs are reduced.
Supply chains would operate inefficiently and run the risk of falling behind the competition without benchmarks. By optimizing workflow to achieve goals, logistics management can reduce the impact of risks like missing deadlines by clearly defining objectives.
Six essential objectives should be the focus of logistics managers:
1.   Increase Efficiency:
Monitoring both inbound and outbound transports are necessary for increasing overall efficiency. Finding reasonable transportation rates that reduce the company's overhead and cost-per-order expenses should be a top priority for managers.
Locating suppliers who carry out quality inspections to find and fix errors before shipping can help managers increase logistics efficiency. Companies can avoid having to recollect items that have been returned if they catch product errors before they reach customers.
2.   Reduce reaction time:
Businesses can work to reduce their interval to increase customer satisfaction in addition to improving product quality. Customers value prompt service, and the quicker an organization can respond to their needs, the better. Managers can launch and postpone operations like shipping replacement items or ordering inventory with the click of a button thanks to modern supply chain technology.
3.   Reduce Unexpected Events:
Unexpected events can still cause process disruptions for businesses. There are dangers in each store network stage that would burn through organization time and assets, from upset creation lines to merchandise harmed during shipment.
Businesses respond to these occurrences by investing in expensive transportation or maintaining healthy levels of safety stock. However, advanced software that improves logistics control is now available to businesses. New solutions keep an eye on operations and try to minimize the impact of unforeseen occurrences.
4.   Optimize Inventory:
Managers must examine the fine line between overstocking and under stocking products in order to optimize inventory levels. Stockouts and lost sales may occur if not enough product is held, affecting profits and customer satisfaction. Overstocking, on the other hand, can result in increased holding and shipping costs that reduce profits, hence, to increase the profits, get in touch with VNC Global for all of your inventory management needs.
Managers of logistics should try to reduce stock deployment to levels that can both meet customer demand and cut costs associated with logistics. Companies can keep inventory turnover rates and availability healthy by calculating minimum stock levels for each item.
5.   Reduce Logistics Costs:
Material transportation is a significant logistics expense. Companies can better control profit margins by cutting this cost. Businesses must consolidate product movement to reduce shipping costs. However, depending on the product's size, weight, type, and destination, transportation requirements can vary greatly.
Most of the time, logistics companies that ship small orders quickly charge a lot. As a result, the shipping cost per unit is lower, the larger the order and the longer the gap. Businesses can reduce logistic costs by grouping small shipments of comparable products with the assistance of ordering software.
6.   Enhance Quality:
Total quality management (TQM) is a rising trend in the logistics sector and the business landscape as a whole. Companies can boost sales and customer satisfaction by improving product quality over time. There is nothing the logistics company can do to make up for damages that occur after the final delivery if an item breaks or fails to function properly. Consequently, organizations ought to adopt a proactive strategy to help the norm of their tasks.

How does AI enhance self-driving cars?
Advanced AI models, such as those implemented by Tesla’s Full-Self Driving mode or Waymo’s autonomous systems, enable AI decision-making in cars, allowing vehicles to interpret road situations and react accordingly. An excellent example of AI integration is Tesla’s Project Dojo. This project focuses on managing extensive video data from Tesla vehicles, which is critical for refining its autonomous driving software.
What is Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Communication?
This term encompasses vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) connectivity. These communication systems are essential for coordinated driving and route planning. V2X technology allows self-driving cars to exchange information with other vehicles and road infrastructure, which improves safety and efficiency. For instance, in August 2023, Baidu expanded its autonomous ride-hailing platform Apollo Go to Wuhan Tianhe International Airport. This deployment leverages V2X communication to ensure safe and efficient interactions between autonomous cars and the airport’s infrastructure.
Challenges Faced by Self-driving Cars
The road to full automation is not without obstacles, and several challenges need to be addressed to achieve the seamless integration of autonomous vehicles into daily life.
Technical Challenges:
One of the most significant hurdles for autonomous vehicles is handling complex driving scenarios. Inclement weather conditions, unexpected movements from pedestrians, and poorly maintained roads can pose difficulties for AI systems, often leading to errors in decision-making. To address this, Kodiak Robotics, a prominent autonomous trucking company, joined the CVSA Enhanced Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Inspection Standard program. This initiative allows autonomous trucks to undergo pre-clearance for roadside inspections, enhancing the safety and reliability of self-driving trucks on public roads.
Regulation and Legislation:
Autonomous vehicle regulation remains a key challenge for its widespread adoption, as laws governing self-driving cars vary across different regions. These differences in regulations create fragmented legal scenarios, impacting the deployment of self-driving technology.
In September 2023, California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that sought to mandate human drivers in self-driving trucks weighing over 10,000 pounds. This decision triggered debates around job security and safety within the autonomous trucking sector, highlighting the conflicting priorities between advancing automation and protecting the interests of workers in the industry.
Contrastingly, in July 2021, Germany took a more proactive approach by allowing driverless vehicles equipped with Level 4 automation to operate within designated zones under the condition of technical supervision.
Ethical Concerns in Autonomous Vehicles:
The deployment of AI decision-making in cars introduces complex ethical dilemmas, especially when it comes to handling life-and-death scenarios. Suppose an autonomous vehicle faces a situation where it must choose between two harmful outcomes; the programmed decision-making protocols come under ethical scrutiny. Additionally, the extensive data collection by self-driving cars raises concerns about privacy in autonomous vehicles, as passengers and their journeys are constantly monitored. Despite these ethical concerns, several companies are spearheading the development of self-driving cars.
Notable Advancements regarding Automation in Cars
Several companies are spearheading the development of self-driving cars, from traditional automakers to tech giants. Their diverse approaches reflect the growing competition and collaboration within the industry.
In July 2023, Volkswagen Group of America launched a program to test autonomous vehicles in Austin, Texas. This initiative began with 10 all-electric ID Buzz vehicles with a goal to roll out self-driving ride-hailing and delivery services by 2026.
In October 2023, Uber partnered with Waymo to integrate Waymo’s autonomous vehicles into its ride-hailing service in Phoenix, offering customers autonomous rides at standard Uber rates.
Apple revised its self-driving goals in December 2022, delaying the launch of its autonomous electric vehicle by a year to 2026.
In December 2022, Baidu received authorization to conduct AV trials on public roads without a human safety operator inside the vehicle, marking a milestone in the industry.
Vehicle Automation: Levels of Autonomy
To classify the varying stages of automation, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) introduced a six-level framework.
Level 0: No automation – A human driver entirely controls the vehicle. While some autonomous vehicle safety features like collision warning or stability control exist, they only offer brief interventions rather than taking over driving tasks.
Level 1: Driver assistance – At this stage, the vehicle can be assisted with a single task, such as steering or accelerating, but the driver must remain engaged.
Level 2: Partial automation – Here, vehicles can handle multiple tasks like steering and braking simultaneously; however, the driver must continuously monitor the system. It enables limited hands-free driving on approved highways but still requires active human supervision.
Level 3: Conditional driving automation – Vehicles at this level can take full control under specific conditions, but a human driver must be ready to intervene. Honda introduced a Level 3 system in 2021 for the Japanese market, becoming the first automaker to offer such a system.
Level 4: High driving automation – These vehicles can operate without human input within designated areas using geofencing technology. Level 4 automation is being tested for robotaxi services and autonomous public transport.
Level 5: Full driving automation – The ultimate goal of automation, Level 5 systems can operate under any conditions without human intervention. These vehicles are not limited by geofencing or specific conditions, allowing for a complete transformation of private and shared transportation.
Future of Autonomous Vehicles
The rise of robotaxi services and autonomous public transport aims to tackle challenges like traffic congestion and environmental sustainability. With projections indicating over 2 billion cars on the road by 2050, shared autonomous transport could mitigate the adverse effects of a growing vehicle population. Volkswagen’s collaboration with Mobileye, set to launch a robotaxi service by 2025, is a step toward this goal. However, to support the widespread use of autonomous vehicles, cities must invest in smart infrastructure with autonomous-friendly road designs and digital mapping systems. The future of autonomation in cars envisions a seamless integration of smart infrastructure, AI, IoT, and automated vehicles working harmoniously.
