We are still 36 hours out & he is already losing his voice.

This is definitely not the worst storm I've seen & for most Floridians, this isn't our first rodeo by any means, but wow, people are freaking out over this one. Yes, the rapid intensification is bad, but it has been really since Irma. It's not like we didn't know that the waters in the Gulf are like 90 Fahrenheit. This is an effect of climate change.

Prepare accordingly & follow the old adage: you hide from the wind, run from the water. If you are in a flood zone, evacuate now. The rest of you not in storm surge or flooding areas, just calm down & ride it out. If you are on the eastern side of the track (myself included), don't be shocked if there are some tornadoes or tornado warnings.

Be like me & just watch Twister during the hurricane! Also, make sure your extra battery packs are charged. Look for recipes now for Hurricanes just in case you lose wifi.

Also, for the non-Floridians, there will be people out doing stupid stuff. It's Florida. You shouldn't be surprised by this.

Just want to let everyone know that I may not be online for a while after tomorrow, depending on what Tropical Storm Idalia will be doing. It's looking like it won't directly impact the county where I live, but still, that could change between now and when the storm makes landfall. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

But I'm just letting everyone know that if I disappear, it's because we have no power at my house and if that happens, there's no telling when it will be restored.

Atlantic hurricane season is in full swing!

Former Hurricane Idalia has weakened but could restrengthen over the Labor Day weekend.

Tropical Depression 12 has formed in the eastern Atlantic and could become Tropical Storm Katia later today.

Gert has restrengthened into a tropical depression and could become a tropical storm again.

Hurricane Franklin and Tropical Storm Jose are also active in the Atlantic.

As #Idalia crosses Florida and Georgia, heading to the western Atlantic, winds in the WDEF News 12 viewing area will increase. The low pressure of the storm - essentially a giant divot in the atmosphere - allows air to flow into and around the area trying to fill up that gap. Even though we won't be directly impacted by the storm, we will feel effects of the storm passing relatively close by in the form of breezy winds.

Expect lots of hurricane jokes the next couple days from me as FL begins to batten down the hatches for Idalia.

As a born Floridian, at this point, my biggest concerns are procuring my storm snacks & an appropriate amount of rum so I can make hurricanes during the hurricane.

It's official: President Biden has declared Florida a DeSaster Area.

Idalia was the second major hurricane to strike the home state of climate-denying Ron DeSantis in less than a year. Screaming "woke!" at hurricanes doesn't keep them out of the state.

As I write this on Tuesday morning there's a disturbance in the mid-Atlantic which currently goes by the generic name Invest 95L. It will almost certainly develop into Tropical Storm Lee. Whether or not it affects Florida depends on the strength of two Highs much further north.

So DeSantis should keep his white boots handy and not make too many plans for Iowa and New Hampshire in the next few days.

EDIT: Tropical Depression Thirteen has just been given recognition by the NHC. As soon as it gets up to the minimum sustained winds of 39 MPH/63 kmh it will be named Tropical Storm Lee. It could be a major hurricane by early Saturday.
