Today in a bit of an unusual is one of Francisco Ruiz Velasco's Linkedin uploads... That just happened yesterday. Mostly as it's largely been baffling people. The current theory is this might have been during the Trollhunters film period if only because the scraggly cat in A has very similar proportions to goblins who were finalised in that production. Could be completely wrong of course, either way these little weirdos are neat!

Looking back on the Tales of Arcadia/Trollhunters fandom, it's still amazing just how thoroughly the studio managed to screw up with Rise of the Titans. Like, it was a decent series of shows, not gonna lie, but the writing also got weaker as time went on (and they got less and less time for each season and series (I acknowledge that these two things are most likely connected)), again, not gonna lie.

But that was mostly okay, because the world and characters were so fascinating and engaging, and it managed to do enough things right and even really well that the fandom was more than happy to fill in any gaps with fic and art and theory-crafting.

And then comes the movie. This final entry, the capstone of this journey that has lasted six seasons and multiple real-world years, that has enraptured and moved so many people...

And the studio goes, "You know what the best way to end this is? By de-canonizing the entire runtime of all three shows, and not showing any of the new timeline or how it's going to end and work out. Oh, and let's have one of the running gags of the movie be unplanned teen pregnancy."

Like wow.

Wow.

I don't think I've ever seen a fandom lose that many members that fast. And I know most people probably like to repress or ignore the whole incident, but I honestly think the whole thing needs to go down in history. This whole series needs to be taught in university and film schools, for the good stuff that went into the shows, to demonstrate examples of what a shortened runtime can do to what might have been good ideas if they aren't properly trimmed, and so they can hold up the movie at the end and go, "This. Do Not Do This."

Tanjirou doubles over, hand clasping over his lower face. He hears the man speak, but his voice sounds almost underwater-like. Muffled, too faint to be heard. The boy can't focus on what the man says. He barely registers the fallen documents containing the information of his internship in the facility.

He's too occupied with the stench coming from the man. The pungent, foul smell that has Tanjirou gagging, his knees buckling. He feels hands on his shoulders -- reflex surges through his muscles and he slaps the contact away.

Strickler stares, eyes wide and bewildered. Tanjirou shares the same look, although his resemble more of a cornered animal. Unsure and confused.

" You don't seem so well, Kamado boy. "

Tanjirou doesn't like how the nickname rolls off the man's tongue. It's supposed to be reserved for his teachers back in Japan. Not this one.

Not to this... creature, that has the scent of blood and horror warping around him.

" Let me contact your guardian. Take the day off. Maybe the difference of time between here and your country makes you feel sick. "

Tanjirou shakes his head, straightening his back and steadies his breathing. He just gets caught off guard. He needs to maintain composure.

Regardless of what he's facing right now. Whatever Strickler is, he doesn't smell like a human.

" Please excuse me, " Tanjirou feels his hand shaking, " I need a moment."

There is a lot he's feeling right now. The familiar feeling, that he had thought to be buried deep in himself along with the memories before he reincarnated, found its way back to the surface the first time he met Strickler.

The feeling of being in an unknown danger.

Tfw you keep seeing the same person vagueposting about your friend, whom they treated shittily, and the overwhelming urge to post the entire conversation of them being an abhorrent, boundary-stomping jerkwad for the Trollhunters fandom to see in case this person has been badmouthing said friend to others, and to only be held back by the knowledge that it might make friendo upset if I were to post the screenshots without her approval...

Just let it be known that if a certain villain stan in the Trollhunters fandom is talking any sort of shit about Goldie in people's DMs, please know that this person is an unreliable narrator and is literally the only person Goldie's ever had to straight-up block due to them CONSTANTLY overstepping boundaries and trying to twist her words in an attempt to make her sound horrible. Normally I wouldn't comment publicly on this at all, since it happened over a year ago and there should be no reason to still be bringing it up, but the fact that I just saw ANOTHER vaguepost about the situation that was posted merely a month ago makes me worry that they might also be talking shit about her in DMs if they're still hung up about it after THIS long. And I don't like the idea of somebody doing that to my friend with severe mental health struggles who isn't even around to defend herself these days. :/

haunted mansion au

barb and jim move into an old, creepy mansion only to find out it’s super haunted. they try to leave, but are forced back when a couple of ghosts follow them and demand they return to the house

strickler is the ‘priest’ they call to exorcise the ghosts. doesn’t work. douxie is the astrophysicist turned tour guide with a tragic backstory and special lens that can photograph ghosts. does work. claire is the psychic medium with a surprisingly good yelp score for someone so young. works really, really well. and nancy domzalski is the old historian with a heart condition (toby’s there too, because he goes wherever his nana does)

together they unravel the mystery of the mansion, defeat the hatbox ghost, and become a family

It’s not a dpxth exclusive scenario but maybe the fact that they were both made to witness a Bad End accidentally caused by a selfish choice they made. Jim w/ the wish he didn’t pick up the amulet (I might be wrong about how exactly this went, I haven’t rewatched the shoe in a while) and danny w/ cheating on his exam.

Anon, you have no idea how much this is exactly the kind of idea I want to draw!! Comparisons of parallels between the shows even if they're not identical is one of my favorite kinds of posts to make here. It actually inspired me to sketch out an 8 page idea, which is gonna take me FOREVER to turn into final drawings- so for now, I would like to share with you my sketches. They're partially inked for clarity - inked stuff is just the concepts I thought were really solid (mostly), and the pencil bits I feel I need to rework (like composition wise). I also did not use references for anything here. In any case! Here is my idea!

Notes:

Proceed with Caution, heed the tags. While the self harm is canon typical only, there is a significant focus on the thought processes involved. (I also gave Angor a lot more depth than canon would dare, and all of it is pain).

Otherwise, this is just a big middle finger to the canon timeline (that I have tried to figure out, but gave up on upon reading the wiki). This is based on the show only, and taking liberties there already (and ignoring the Wizards paradox).

I’ll also state here that I have taken the liberty of renaming some aspects of Angor’s magic. It will be more relevant in coming one shots, but I have opted for “doll” and “glomerate” as both (Animus) Totem and Golem have specific cultural annotations that I am not comfortable appropriating.

Past/Present/Future Trio

I figured why not put this on a different post as I didn't want to clutter the other one. Basically how the group dynamic between Jak, Link and Jim affect their respective companions. Enjoy.

Jak, Daxter and Link show up in Jim's world during the exodus to New Jersey. The Demolition Duo from a warp ring jump (during Jak 3) gone wrong while Link arrives through the Lost Woods when leaving Termina. It was an absolute miracle that a misunderstanding fueled fight didn't start between the four.

Link is constantly encouraged to act like the gremlin kid he is by everyone else especially from the trolls. (Troll whelps are a huge rarity so they take any accompanying children, troll or not, very seriously.) If a task needs to be done, the Hylian is given an option to help unless its an all hands on deck thing. Same option is extended to Jak, something Daxter approves as his best friend isn't a full on errand boy.

Dark Jak is seen as a young troll to the entire Trollmarket to his utter befuddlement and Jim's amusement. He isn't the only troll youngling in the group anymore! "Horns? Quite a fine pair! Claws? Nice and sharp. Fangs? I definitely see tusks beginning to grow. Thrive in the dark? You are a young troll, Jak!" - Blinky.

Link helps Jim improve on his swordsmanship, Daxter shares wingman moments with AAARRRGGHH, Jak and Claire bond over their dark powers. A certain ottsel also gets himself a pair of pants alongside a knife after so long. Blinky just happy that these kids can bond more with people their age.

Constantly comparing each other's worlds and experiences, later on the traumatic ones. Everyone pretty much deemed Haven City worse than Ohio. Jak, Daxter and Link are deemed honorary trolls quite quickly alongside offered a home with the group. There were obvious tears from the two blondes.

Jim and Jak(as Dark Jak) tend to cross horns with each other, kinda like deer. The former does it mainly outta troll instincts plus the eco channeler is the perfect sized opponent. Daxter often records it like its the super bowl.

Epona gets some custom horse armor so Link's dear companion has extra protection. Jak tends to spoil her with a fresh apple or sugar cube when given the opportunity. Jim makes sure they have horse care products on hand.

Light Jak and Dark Giant Jak threw everyone for a loop. Angels are considered super rare that the Eco Channeler's light form is the closest they seen. Everyone agrees with Blinky about Dark Jak being a troll as Dark Giant appearance has the traits of a full-blown adult. (I'm redesigning the Dark Giant form later.)

Link laughed his ass when he used the Fierce Deity Mask before the travelling group. Jim is already salty about Jak but gets even more salty that his little brother in trauma can turn into a god! He wants to be able to switch between his troll and human form too!

Jim, Daxter and Jak find out that the Fierce Deity is a Fierce DADity. They're collecting dad figures like Pokemon cards at this rate. Fierce fixes Jim's armor issues and now the Trollhunter can finally change outfits. Blinky got dragged away by AAARRRGGHH before he could give the deity a shit ton of questions. Guaranteed group fishing trip the moment they end up near a lake.

Jak, Daxter, Link, Jim and Claire absolutely trade swears in different respective languages much to Blinky's horror. The Demolition Duo curse in Trollish very often as they picked it up better than Hylian or Spanish. Jim and Claire sometimes curse in Hylian. Link swears like a sailor in both Spanish, Trollish alongside Precursian. Jim shared some swears to Toby and it quickly spread amongst the friend group in Arcadia.

Link comes across an abandoned yet fully functional Heartstone thanks to his dungeon crawling expertise. It's quite a rough job to make a new Trollmarket there but otherwise perfect as its about two fifths distance between Arcadia and New Jersey. Two homes were made specifically for Link and the Demolition Duo.

Jak may have accidentally found but also activated a warp gate near the Heartstone. A sudden nighttime trip that drags Jim, Link, Daxter and him outside the Monk Temple in his world. They're found by a relieved Damas, man been freaking as he grown attached to the Demolition Duo, then quickly taken back to Spargus before sunrise.

Link and Jim get adopted pretty quickly cause the King of Spargus has Batman's adoption habit. The half troll gets a special outfit so he can travel during the day with no issue. Doesn't take long for Claire to figure out what happened or have the warp gate fully functional.

Beneficial relations between Spargus and Trollmarket? Absolutely. Both have goods that can benefit the offer but also take a huge load off of Jim when it comes to his responsibilities as the Trollhunter. The warp gates makes it easier to visit the now extended family especially since a deactivated one been found in Arcadia.

The three are super protective of each other. Jim legitimately growled whilst bearing his fangs and Link brandish his sword straight at Samos alongside anyone else from Haven City who treated the Demolition Duo poorly. Exile their brother plus his best friend to the desert to die after making the two your errand boys? Yeah fuck you guys.

Link may(definitely) stolen some paperwork, clothes, books and tools from people who mistreated the Demolition Duo for Jim to eat. Flimsy or false Precursor Metal is apparently quite tasty to trolls so it only tasted better to the half troll. Jak and Daxter were laughing their asses off when they caught Jim eating Kleiver's stolen shirt.

Two certain blondes alongside one ottsel get doted on by one Barbara Lake once they visit Arcadia. Just immediately adopted especially since Jim already considers Jak, Daxter and Link as brothers. They FINALLY get a mother figure.

Instant shenanigans once Toby joins in on the group antics. Water balloon fights with a tiny bit of powers and magic involved? A heat seeking balloon might've hit Stricklander in the face while he was on a coffee date with Jim's mom. They immediately ran afterwards but the man got his revenge later via ice water buckets.

A warp gate to Hyrule is later found but Link ultimately chose to stay with everyone else. He's practically a cryptid in his world, visiting alongside different companions and vanishing without a trace. The Hero of Time finally found a place to call home once more.
