While I'm posting my Over the Nexus thoughts tonight, here's a bit of a peek behind the curtain. I have a set of 10 Synchro Monsters I consider to be "staples". By default, every Deck I make has all of these, plus 5 more that are more specific to that Deck, such as extra copies of one of those, non-generic Synchros, or just semi-staples I don't always play but sometimes use if I have room to spare. These are, in ascending order of level: Ally of Justice Catastor, Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, Goyo Guardian, Black Rose Dragon, Colossal Fighter, Red Dragon Archfiend, Scrap Dragon, Stardust Dragon, Thought Ruler Archfiend, and Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. It's kinda weighted towards level 8 Synchros, but oftentimes I need more than 5 slots to fit in everything I want a Deck to run. Usually when it's time to cut things, I start with Colossal Fighter or Thought Ruler Archfiend, because those are the 8s that come up the least for me (though I'm biased towards Red Dragon Archfiend, so maybe other people would cut that first). Usually I try to cut them as a pair, not because they have any synergy or anything, but because it's hard for me to decide which of them comes up more often and it's easier for me to just not think about it

some other bits of interest about dimensionswap (prime) AU dennis since he's my extra special poodle with a bite history ive been rotating at top speed in my brain this last week and i wanna throw some notes in my tag:
he runs ice barriers 💙 well. mostly. his ace is trishula but there might be another scary ice dragon lurking in his extra deck
his post-synchro arc duel academy Mini Boss outfit with the big crazy cape is inspired by Lancea, Ancestral Dragon of the Ice Mountain, which ended up working delightfully since in dswap Fusion dimension's associated color is white instead of purple
his ACTUAL secret second ace monster is one i made up <3 The miraculous merciless Mercury Mirror Magician!
shoutout to my buddy @/rampantlytyping for helping me iron out MMM's effects <3 i need to draw it sometime but it's this freaky weird warlock made of drippy quicksilver with solid 'mirror' masks that reflect monsters' faces back at them/cracks when it gets attacked. The card itself is super old and weathered but for a very long time Dennis never had the materials to actually summon it (since Ancient Gears are EARTH-based) :<
He trained in spycraft under one of Duel Academy's best students (Atticus <3) until something went really sideways on a mission and Dennis bungled something Big Time. But Atticus took the blame for the incident and ended up getting carded for it, and Dennis has been so deeply fucked up by the whole instance he can't even bear to think about it without slipping into a panic attack. He coped by swallowing Atticus's personality and using it as one of his many facades (it's like 90% of the outward persona he carries as Yuri's manager in Synchro. All cheery smiles. Laidback. Friendly)
(Alexis knows the truth of what happened, that Dennis's screw up was what ultimately got her brother carded, and she fucking haaaaaates Dennis for that. She had a chance to card him during a hunting game drill and the only thing that held her back was an adamant desire to Not be like the teachers who effectively killed her brother. and also to make dennis sit and stew in his own guilt lol. she ended up fleeing off to Yusho's resistance not long after)
He's just like. a Really a deeply dangerous and violent person and also still a massive liar and coward. he holds the nastiest grudges and never developed a creative outlet (dueltaining) so duels are just tools of power and destruction and survival to him. his demeanor can go icy in a heartbeat. Yugo has a scar on his shoulder from where Dennis once bit him hard enough to draw blood. HE IS UNWELL 😊
sorry mom i got attached to the AU dynamic between two characters who like barely interact in canon but dswap yugo and dennis have a bit of a winding history of interactions that go all the way back to when they were like eight and they make my chest hurt. duel academy's last and most lethal hunting hounds with no home to go back to. pain and agony on planet earth
#ygo posting#dimensionswap au#lord help me finish this ficlet about the two of them its been kickin my ass for like 8 DAYS!!!

A Totally Unbiased* Review of Yugioh Decks I've Played
Welcome back to "Posts No One Asked For" with your host -- me! This may or may not be an attempt to get back into anything at all after a solid four weeks of grief beating me with a stick back into depression. *cough* Anyway...
*Disclaimer: I am not a pro in any sense of the word and I can openly admit some (if not all) of these decks could be better built -- especially since I've gotten better at it the longer I've played but finding the right cards decks later is a pain in Master Duel so I will probably never rebuild any of the older ones -- and that contributes. I don't play competitively so this is based entirely on what I, personally, thought of playing them. Also there is no such thing as an unbiased opinion anyway.
1.Red Dragon Archfiend: Okay, yes, the first deck I built was based on Jack's. I was brand new to playing so I wanted a deck I was at least sort of familiar with so I already knew a bit of what I was supposed to do, strategy-wise, so I could figure out the game itself. RDA and Stardust were in the same pack (I think? I went for both at any rate, but this was...years ago at this point) so I went that route and ended up with more RDA-oriented cards so that was the deck I built. I very quickly learned the appeal of a Power Deck strategy and why Jack loved it. Especially considering later support like the (currently banned) King Calamity evolution of RDA. Overall, super fun and easy to pick up combos. Rating lower than maybe it should be simply because I know I could build it better now (if I had the time and patience to dig up the right cards) but still plenty high because even poorly built it still functioned successfully. 8/10
2.Lightsworn+Chaos: Admittedly, I fell in love with this combo with a very old and cringe-y OC I made way back in the day. This was her deck, and I wanted to make it. Except that once I figured out the game, I realized the deck I had made for her originally was terrible, lol. Anyway, this one was far better (though still not great, considering). I've always loved Lightsworns and the risk that comes with milling your own deck. The problem here is, as with many older decks that main-deck high-level monsters, the chance of bricking your opening hand is decently high. In addition to main-decking high-level monsters, there are also two that can only be summoned when milled. So. Yeah. Great deck when you don't brick your opening hand, but there is a decent chance of it. Yet another deck that might have squeaked out a higher score if I took the time to rebuild it, but the cards are buried in my inventory and searching is difficult. 5/10
3.Fortune Ladies: Yeah, I swung right over to building Carly's deck. Can't remember exactly if this was the third deck I built or not, but it's some where in this area. I wanted to love it; I did. And, yes, this is -- again -- a deck that I could probably have built better and would now if I tried to rebuild it, however... It's just Not Good, from a playability stand point. When it works, it works great, but it rarely does. The "ATK being based on level" gimmick is neat in theory, but it results in a lot of low starting stats that make it difficult to keep monsters on the field long enough to benefit from it. You basically have to get lucky enough to cheat out Earth or Dark by alternate means because your lower-level gals aren't going to stick around long enough to use them as tributes (or to be able to deal damage themselves). Sorry, Carly; too unreliable. 2/10
4.Ice Barriers: Sounded fun -- that was the reasoning behind this deck. And it was! A lot of the effects are amazing, and its not a difficult deck to learn by any means. The only downer is that Trishula (9*) is Super Awkward to summon with the other monsters you have available. But then again... you have plenty of others to work with (including the 11* Trish retrain that is ironically easier to summon and that, if destroyed, special summons the original 9*), so it's not all bad by any means. I may not play this one much these days, but it was fun while it lasted. 7/10
5.Weather Painters: The art is so gorgeous on these. Unfortunately, I could never get a handle on them. I blame that a lot on how Master Duel proc's effects, in that it's not always clear what effect it's asking if you want to use. Considering how many effects proc at different times and in different circumstances... its a lot to keep track of, especially when the deck is entirely new to you. So, in trying to learn it, I was constantly using effects I did not want to use because I didn't know what effect the game was asking if I wanted to use. It might be a great, really fun deck, but I will probably never know it. 2/10
6.Time Thieves: The only Xyz deck I have ever and probably will ever build. I hated the Xyz tutorial so much that I swore I would never use them. I only built this deck because I liked the art. It was... better than I expected. Like with the Weather Painters, however, the game has a habit of prompting you to use effects without a way of checking what those effects are before you decide. There are fewer with this deck than with the WPs, however, so it was easier to keep track of as I started to learn the deck, so it was less of an issue this time around. Still, not one I revisit often, though it was interesting to experiment with briefly. 6/10
7.Aroma: Favorite deck to play, hands down. I was overjoyed when I got on a few days ago to find Master Duel had finally added the new support at the beginning of the month (it only took...like, nine months 🙄). I dunno, man, there's just something about having 14k LP and gaining and completely shutting down your opponent because of the combination of those two things. It's a blast. I love it. 10/10
8.Blackwings: Yet another deck I wanted to love but... dang it, there's too much support. I started playing with just one copy of the structure deck which... not great. I knew that from the start but I wanted to get a feel for what cards I might want to use. Didn't work, really. There are so many options I just... never finished building it. What I played, I enjoyed, and the combos are wild. But it was just Too Much to figure out for this girl, haha. 5/10.
9.Dragunity: I wanted a new deck to learn, and at this point I'm starting to run out of synchro-based archetypes that interest me and this one looked interesting enough so I went for it. I still have not really gotten into it, months down the line. I've tried it out a fair bit, but dang it, this is the first deck I've built with synchro-tuners and that has bitten me in the butt more times than it has worked for my benefit, lol. It's a different strategy than I'm used to and I need to keep playing this one to get better at it, but I just. haven't. haha. Given that I've barely begun to learn this one, the rating is probably a little off (one way or the other) from what I would give it if I'd gotten it down, but.... 6/10
#yugioh#yugioh 5ds#yugioh master duel#master duel#(only tagging 5ds because i mostly play synchros haha)#(i would say its after midnight and i need to go to bed but i'm always tired these days ahahahaha#this was a nice distraction for a bit and i enjoyed it even if no one reads it so it was worth the time at any rate)

Been working on my own Yugioh! 5D's character - one that's the owner of a Water Attribute Singer dragon, because it always felt off to me that there was two Dark Attribute Dragons, but no Water Attribute one. I didn't want to use Trishula and the Ice Barrier because that dragon was too powerful for his own good, and I wanted to showcase this character to be versatile in ways the others aren't. Meaning that her deck can't be cancelled so easily. Her main draw is that all her monsters are defense based - They have high defenses for the purposes of their effects, which is to use their defense as their attack. It only works when they're in the defense position, however, and there's a good amount of cards that counteract this strategy easily.
About my OC - her name's Johana Crystalle, and her last name may be an indicator of something. Not entirely sure what it is.
As for her personality, I decided that because of her rough life in Satellite (as I want her placed there due to lack of female representatives besides Martha, IIRC) she's a bit spacey and in her own head, to escape the awful world that she grew up in. However, she seems very capable of leaving at any point in her head, and even shows a strong awareness of everything around her at any point, an implication that it's not entirely inescapable. Beyond that, her natural personality showcases her to be optimistic despite the world she lives in, as well as being very, very calm and smart in certain suituations.
I've done five different variations of her head to try and figure out which version I like of her. I'm leaning towards the ones with bunny ears as cowlicks more, but what does everyone else think? I plan on possibly reworking on her jacket a bit, as I feel it's still a bit close to Yusei's, and I don't want her to be entirely based off of him.

I love hearing about people's favorite decks and I saw you said your's is Ice Barrier. Please gush about Ice Barrier!
I THOUGHT NO ONE WOULD EVER ASK
I LOVE ICE BARRIERS!!! Quite literally my favorite Archetype of all time!
They were my first true Deck in Duel Links and they were actually pretty good!
Also, my main OC literally uses Ice Barriers!
I love Duel Terminal lore, especially the first wave of it. I remember watching videos about Duel Terminal all the time and they were awesome!
The idea of these dragons that were so powerful that they had the power to ruin the world being sealed away into a mirror, only to be brought out when a threat far too powerful arrives is just so epic!
Speaking of Dragons, I love Dragons in general! And each of the Ice Barrier Dragons are so cool! Brionac (despite being a Sea Serpent and not a Dragon for some reason) is really awesome! Gungnir, while the most underpowered of the Ice Barrier Dragons, is still cool as well! And Trishula is my favorite card of all time!!! It's still pretty powerful to this day, being able to be played first to rip a card, played second to get rid of a card on the field, and it's also Graveyard Disruption! And also, I just love hydras. And Trishulas' upgraded form, Trishula Zero, is really awesome as well! Same can be said with the other two versions of Trishula, Icy Imprisonment and Evilswarm Ouroboros. The new Dragon, Lancea, is also really cool!
Though I just love the theme of these monsters, as well as other monsters in this era of Duel Terminal. And despite the deck starting out with a bunch of mediocre to bad cards, the deck has overtime gotten some great support that pushes it to rouge status and I love that!
I haven't played Ice Barriers in a hot minute, but I'll probably try them out again in Master Duel once I finish my Chaos Thunder Dragon deck.
But yeah, I could go on, but this post will be long enough as is. So I'll end on this.
Hexa Spirit is the cutest little thing in the universe and I love it. Thank you.

Over the Nexus Deck Profile: Disaster Dragon
Disaster Dragon is a hybrid aggro-control deck, combining the sheer power of dragons with floodgates both draconic and generic, with the goal of overwhelming the opponent with sheer oppressive might. While not as immediately explosive as Dragon Turbo (my Three-Pronged Dragon deck), it compensates by being far more durable and methodical. The flagship monster of the deck, besides the universally good Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, is Light and Darkness Dragon, whose power is all-encompassing. LADD negates any and all activated effects from both players, which means if it's summoned when you're at an advantageous position, it can lock up the game for you and more or less guarantee victory. It has its weaknesses, as cards like Quickdraw Synchron can activate their effects over and over to reduce LADD to a weak vanilla, but its power is undeniable and commands respect. LADD isn't the only trick this deck plays; Exploder Dragon keeps your opponent off of any powerful monsters, while REDMD can recycle it over and over. Koa'ki Meiru Drago stops LIGHT and DARK strategies in their tracks, which can be bad for us since we play our own LIGHT and DARK monsters, but a key trick with this deck is learning to not pay the cost to keep Drago on the field, so that you can special summon freely and bring back Drago with REDMD when you're done. Royal Oppression, while limited, is downright terrifying when played in an advantageous position, capable of cementing your victory similarly to REDMD. This is probably my favorite Edison deck, and it's one of my favorite OTN decks too! Here's the list: MONSTERS (20): Delta Flyer x1 Dread Dragon x3 Exploder Dragon x1 Koa'ki Meiru Drago x3 Light and Darkness Dragon x2 Masked Dragon x3 Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon x3 Red-Eyes Wyvern x3 Totem Dragon x1 SPELLS (10): Dark Hole x1 Dragon Ravine x3 Future Fusion x1 Gold Sarcophagus x2 Monster Reborn x1 Mystical Space Typhoon x2 TRAPS (10): Call of the Haunted x1 Dimensional Prison x2 Mirror Force x1 Royal Oppression x1 Solemn Judgment x1 Solemn Warning x2 Starlight Road x1 Torrential Tribute x1 EXTRA DECK: Five-Headed Dragon x1 Ally of Justice Catastor x1 Black Rose Dragon x1 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier x1 Colossal Fighter x1 Exploder Dragonwing x1 Goyo Guardian x1 Magical Android x1 Red Dragon Archfiend x1 Red Nova Dragon x1 Scrap Dragon x1 Stardust Dragon x1 Thought Ruler Archfiend x1 Trident Dragion x1 Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier x1

never thought i'd see someone who uses pendulum summoning since its usually link and synchro monsters dominating the meta in duel links and master duel
duel links uses speed duel rules right, never got the hang of it, never liked the limited monster zones nor the cards I could use
if you'd be able to create a full deck of 40 cards, what monsters would you add in?
Pendulum summoning is fun tho real hahaha not that I play rank much really, just when there's a mission for it lmfao, sometimes I'd just play casual pvp, rank no matter what game stresses me out. But yeah I get the meta, cause I watched some replays of like legendary ranked players and back then it's like, 107: Galaxy Eyes Tachyon Dragon lmfao that mfer was insane.
Legitimately I don't understand Link summoning idk it's just a bit confusing for me.
Synchro summoning tho, back then when I was just starting, my ace was Draco Berserker of Tenyi, bc his effect was broken as shit, the thing abt him he's like,, a glass cannon, his 3000 atk plus w his effect how he can gain the attack of effect monsters he defeats is insane, but one effect that can put him in defence position before he could attack would be the death of him legit
But yeah, I get the speed duel rules that's why I was kinda hesitant to use pendulum summoning when I started, but then the Arc V characs have skills that let them add pendulum zones so I won't have to waste two slots on my spell/trap zone for the pendulum scales
At this point tho I really got so used to the speed duel rules lmfao
That reminds me tho, since me and my friend Altair once played yugioh online together, I have to make a better deck cbdmdn they use this dope ass Magician deck and honestly bodied me so hard that seeing those damn Magicians scare me now hahah :'D but then again, my deck during that was full of random monsters that don't sync together, maybe soon when I do get to make a new and hopefully better deck I can beat them in a duel ;w;
But yeah, I think like the official deck capacity is 40-60 right? For the main deck and up to 15 for the extra deck. I might just stick w 40 cards more or less cause I think it'd be easier to get the cards I do need
Idk what cards I'd add more, but like, yeah for monster cards I'd keep most in my deck, under the cut bc I think this is gonna be long lmfaooo
MONSTER CARDS:
Odd Eyes Pendulum Dragon
Odd Eyes Dragon
Odd Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon
Odd Eyes Phantom Dragon
Stargazer Magician
Dragonpulse Magician
Dragonpit Magician
Oafdragon Magician

EXTRA DECK:
Odd Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
Odd Eyes Raging Dragon
Odd Eyes Rebellion Dragon
Odd Eyes Absolute Dragon

Performapal Odd Eye Metal Claw
Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon
Clear Wing Synchro Dragon
Dark Anthelion Dragon
Borreload Furious Dragon
Voloferniges, The Darkest Dragon Doomrider
Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier
~~
Idk if that got to 40, but I might have to,, revise that too, so I'd just have like,, monsters that'd I'd actually use, but that's the concept I have for a standard deck for the meantime.
I might have to reduce the number of Performapal monsters too, plus, I don't have a fixed amount of how many of some cards I'd have, I'd have to redo that soon, but yeah that's the gist of it for now hahaha
#i think id mostly keep the odd eyes monsters the same#the magician ones too#id probs just choose over the performapals again cause theres a ton of em lmfao#but anyways yeah hahah#an ask and an answer#anon

I'm the one who sent the dragon ask and just wanted to say thanks for answering! My personal favorite Yugioh dragons are Black Rose Dragon and Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Their designs are so fun and I think they're really neat. I'm also a fan of the other Rose Dragons and Rainbow Dragon.
YW!!! i love talkin about Yugioh dragons...so many good ones. TRISHULA ALSO VERY COOL the Ice Barrier dragons are all such sick concepts...I used Gungnir for a while when I played Water monsters and that was so fun. Ice dragons <3
rainbow dragon is so classic too I gotta respect a gx legend...im also fond of rainbow dark dragon myself i love when ygo monsters get a Edgy Evil Form SO much
ROSE DRAGONS ALSO JUST DELIGHTFUL i only just found out about Crossrose Dragon a few weeks back and I love her. everyone look at her and her very cute bouquet tail
#ygo posting#asks#anonymous#another thing i do love about BRD is its board clear effect...extremely funny to bust out sometimes#like. that's it! now we're BOTH unhappy and empty-boarded. GOODBYE
