For the February Patreon art commission for the @17thshard I illustrated the Crow's Song overcoming peril on the Crimson Sea. (Really the whole scene should be told by a multitude of camera angles).

Finding the right references for the ship was a task! Fourmasters are difficult to find before the 1850s. But at least I learned a lot about sails and rigging on the way. 

Painting the crimson moon was really fun. So I also have a version with just the moon, the background and the illustrations without the clouds.

If we plot Tress of the Emerald Sea to the Princess Bride (it’s very obvious inspiration) then we can see that the Dragon Xisis plays the same role in the story as Miracle Max does.

My point is that if there was ever to be an animated adaptation of Tress Billy Crystal should voice Xisis

The more I consider it, the thing I love most about Tress is how low stakes it is. There’s no world ending calamity. There’s no all encompassing war. There’s no immortal tyrant king. It’s a girl, her cups, and her love of an awkward dweeb, and I think that’s marvelous.

In all seriousness though, I'm getting to the very end of my second read-through of Tress, and I'm really starting to wonder if Hoid is telling the story to someone on Sixth of the Dusk's planet

More Tress art, more concept-ish. I want to focus more on practicing composition at the moment and the Lumar spore seas with their giant moons and vibrant monochrome colours are very enticing for that.

I love Tress of the Emerald Sea so fucking much. Is it his best book? It might be his best book. His writing benefits from the unrestrained nature of this composition and Hoid as a narrative voice? Fucking marvelous. 10/10, need sequels, preferably written in secret.
