In response to the CN ask: I have a single critter nation for my four boys. I do use fleece/uhaul absorption material on their shelf, but it was very easy to put a concrete mixing bin in the bottom - it adds a little more vertical space as well as loose bedding for digging. They're about $12-14 at most US hardware stores, not sure about anywhere else. And it's super easy to clean because of the rounded corners.

Continued CN advice: my fleece shelf needs changed at least twice a week. It does not do well with ammonia if left any longer than that. I'd honestly recommend a single CN if your mischief is still small - it's way more space than you'd expect, and the addition isn't difficult to buy if you change your mind later. My plastic shelf did crack a bit at the corners, but the support is sturdier than any other cages I've ever had.

6. Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams?

Half the time, she just doesn’t remember her dreams, but a lot of the good ones revolve around being able to just relax with the rest of the team. Like, being in a place where they don’t have to worry about the Tiamat cults or anything else and just get to relax. Her nightmares tend to have similar themes, too, namely feeling confused and helpless, usually facing down something much bigger than her and having no one there to help her.

11. In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?

Definitely the Autumn Harvest Festival when Jasttor died. Like, she’d always been aware that he could die because obviously that can happen to any living person, but she never really thought about it actually happening. That space between when Faelan told her he was gone and Teg showing up was probably the single most terrifying thing for her.

29. What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?

Tally, when she was really, really little used to read a lot of fairy tales about heroes who traveled the world and saved people out of the goodness of their hearts. It was never really like a big ambition of hers , but she always admired the characters as role models. It’s part of why her whole concept of good and evil is so simplistic; you’re either really, really good and virtuous and righteous or you’re not.

She kind of resigned herself to being the latter after her dad got sick and she joined up with Jack and Stash. It’s not something she’d ever really say out loud, but being part of the Metalhearts is probably the closest she’s been to being like the characters she’d read about.

14. Biggest regret:That she will likely never be accepted back into her cult (in her eyes, a family, even if it's a broken one) because she failed and is compromised as a member.

01. Full name:Jasttor Ghelin Varshoth Bloodmaw, sometimes known as "bright eye" (itmen sauriv) to his elders if back at the clan

02. Best friend:In order of life events: Lilothibra, Andrel Ashwing, Tally. He's starting to get close to the others too, and has a weird sort of love/hate friendship with Medericus.

04. Favorite color:Green, like, bright oceanic green.

18. Biggest insecurity:He feels like he has to overcompensate for running away all the time with his family and tries to be "brave" constantly. He hates backing down or running.

20. Role Model: Kuyutha, the famous dragonborn who used to train paladins of Bahamut many years ago.

01. Full name:Before she was Integrity, she was Stherla Zenhex Emberheart. (Family name Zenhex, so nobody would hear of that unless they were very close to her).

02. Best friend:She doesn't really have anyone as a "best friend" at the moment. She's closest to Jasttor, but even with him there's a bit of distance.

04. Favorite color:She likes gold :)

18. Biggest insecurity:Not being "enough". Not strong enough, not smart enough, not fast enough to be of any use to anyone.

20. Role Model: ...Honestly? Probably her dad. He was a very good man, as far as she remembers.

Oh my god I have no idea. Um.

Okay, okay, how about Havine has that distressed/annoyed little grumble/groan I do when we’re playing. That immediate little emotional reaction before I/she can stop my/herself.

Quilethen does a disdainful little sniff when she’s annoyed.

44. Is there a particular event that would emotionally devastate your character?

Hahaha well. Technically it’s happened to Havine and Quilethen.

But new events?

For Havine, it would be any member of New Dawn dying and her being unable to stop it. Especially Relentless, but it could be any of them.

For Quilethen, it would be losing Anaerion completely. She’d be absolutely rudderless if she lost the sword he is in, and if she had reason to believe she couldn’t ever find his soul again.

3. Has creating a character ever made you realize something about yourself?

I really fucking love tragic backstories lmao.

No but seriously, I love writing characters who have had major events in their lives that have forced them to change, somehow. How people react to these things is what defines them, so I always end up putting them in situations where they are forced to make choices. It makes me sort of realize what my own morality is, and makes me reflect on what I might have done in those situations? So that’s always interesting.

4. Any minor characters that have either taken over or branched off into their own stories?

Yeah Ilweth was supposed to be super dead or basically ignored until she was jailed or ran back to her cult. She was a totally accidental actual sympathetic character in a moment of inspiration xD

6. When creating a character, do you come up with the visual concept or the written concept first?

Usually visual, and then I ask questions. Why do they look like that? What race is this? Why this armor, why this weapon, are they young or old? And I readjust visuals, and go back to questions, and sort of keep developing them that way. Or I have just one main visual trait in mind and the rest is written from there.

39. When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct?

“Oh shit a dragon!! Do you breathe fire??”

“Oh my god Becky you can’t just ask someone if they breathe fire.”

21. What is one of your character’s biggest fears? How would they react when dealing with this fear?

Being rejected/disliked. They go into super people-pleasing mode at this, staying up late at night helping with weapons, telling jokes, generally trying to get people to like them.
