“What’s this, babe?”
Your boyfriend, uncharacteristically shy, looks up at you through his lashes, chin tilted down. You cock your head to the side.
“Travis?”
“Hmm?”
You give him another perplexed look. “Can I open it?”
You had just showered after training to find your boyfriend waiting on your bed, a brown paper package sealed with sellotape in his ever- moving hands. He had wordlessly stood up, greeting you with a shy grin and handing you the mystery item.
Even now, he’s hesitant, biting his lower lip. You reach out and pull it from under his teeth- you were always nagging at him for that habit.
You trace a thumb up his jaw, admiring the spatter of freckles along his nose and cheeks, like the most delicate painting of stars in the sky, his sunkissed skin the canvas for it.
“You- you can open it.”
“Sure?”
He nods. “But-” he places his hand over yours when you pick at the sellotape. “Don’t laugh.”
You’re about to give him a playful quip back, something about how if it’s something stupid like a plastic bug, you’re going to laugh- but the words die on your tongue and your face relaxes into something like sympathy or extreme tenderness when you realise he’s serious. The poor boy thinks you’re going to laugh at him.
Your insides dissolve to mush. “I won’t laugh. Promise.”
You can see his shoulders slump slightly, but he’s still tense. “Okay.”
Your fingernail resumes its endeavour to peel away the sellotape, but quickly growing impatient, you just tear at the paper. At first, you see nothing inside and wonder if it’s one of his silly, everyday little jokes after all- when something at the bottom glints up at you. You raise an eyebrow, but your boyfriend just looks to the side, long lashes almost blond in the sun shining through the open window. You observe the thing more closely, taking it out and laying it flat on your palm- and when you see what it is, your heart flips.
It’s a necklace. A golden chain, so carefully crafted you wonder for a brief moment if it was forged by Hephaestus himself. But that’s not what caught your attention.
Your face pulls up into a face- splitting grin, so wide it hurts. A small bow and arrow charm hanging from the end, a curly ‘T’ and ‘S’ next to it. His initials.
You look up at him with an elated giggle. “Travis.”
“Do you like it?” he asks nervously, eyes squinting, sceptical through narrowed eyes.
“I- I love it,” you beam. “Thank you. So much.”
Your effervescence is contagious; Travis rubs the back of his neck with a sheepish but easy smile you knew so well. “I didn’t know whether you’d want your initials or mine, but-”
“But it’s perfect,” you interrupt. “Thank you. Honestly. I love it.”
At your adoring reaction to his gift, he completely relaxes, face still flushed a pleased pink. “I’ll help you put it on,” he says, taking it from you and turning you around by your waist. You feel his fingers brush the back of your neck as he clasps the necklace, stroking his thumb along your warm skin. “Pretty.”
Your smile grows even wider, something you didn’t deem possible. “Shut up.”
He leans in, nosing along the skin between your neck and shoulder. “No.”
“Tease,” you mutter, turning back around to face him and pulling him in for a long- awaited kiss.
Sorry if this was really random just smth i was thinking abt yesterday

"I AM GOING TO KILL YOU TWO!"
My eyes snapped open at the screeching sound coming from just outside my cabin. I rolled out of bed quickly, hustling to the front door in my pajamas, to find Katie Gardner absolutley fuming in the front doorway. Her fists were clenched as she started at someone beyond the cabin door, the early morning light giving her silhouette a rosy glow.
I hadn't had a chance to look at the clock, but clearly it was much too early on a Saturday for me to be dealing with this. Unfortunately for me, as the head counselor for the Demeter cabin, I didn't actually have a choice.
I followed Katie as she stormed outside, in hot pursuit of whoever had gotten on her bad side. As she stepped further into the light, I realized she was absolutley dripping wet, and the most likely series of events clicked into my head at the exact same time I heard the Stolls cackle.
Damned Hermes kids. I knew better than to expect them to ever stop pranking us completely, especially since Travis seemed to use it as a way to flirt with Katie, but did they have to do it so early in the morning?
By the time I cleared the Demeter cabin's front steps, Katie had already chased the Stolls halfway across the lawn full of cabins, shouting and hurling seed packets at them as she went. With a little Demeter magic, she made the packets explode as soon as they got close enough to the Stolls. For the sake of every single camper still asleep, I needed to put a stop to this sooner than later.
I snatched up my own handful of seeds that had been sitting outside the cabin, then took off after Katie, Connor, and Travis. The Stolls kept cutting back and forth across the grass, Katie always a few steps behind them, which made it much easier for me to catch up to the trio by skipping the zig zags. Connor made it almost to the treeline of the forest before apparently remembering he might not want to take a fight with a Demeter kid into the woods, so he came to a screeching halt. Travis, who'd had his head turned to grin at Katie, ran right into his back. The two went toppling to the ground, and when I finally reached them, Katie had her arm pulled back to annihilate the brothers with whatever she managed to grow out of all the seeds she'd grabbed.
"Nope!" I cried, using one hand to stop Katie from following through on her throw while I scattered my own seeds with the other. A little concentration and a wave of my hand later, some flowers had sprouted and wrapped lightly around the Stolls' legs, keeping them in place at least for the moment. I turned my attention fully to Katie again.
She scolwed me, her half-dry hair and near-growling tone giving her quite a wild look.
"What are you doing? I had them!"
"Katie, as much as I get where you're coming from, I can't let you make the Stolls into living tress."
"Why not? They deserve it! It'd finally stop them from showing up at our cabin at five in the morning on a Saturday just to mess with us!" I grimaced. I knew it was early, but 5am... oof. "See! You know I'm right."
I sighed. "While my regular camper heart might agree with you, since my alarm was you screaming thanks to their prank... my senior counselor brain is reminding me we don't get to kill the other campers, even when they might deserve it. Sorry, Katie."
"So what, they just get away with it? Like nothing ever happened?"
"No, definitley not." I turned to the Stolls again, hands on my hips. They'd both managed to get about halfway out of my flower trap, but they froze on the spot when they noticed my attention on them. "What do you think, boys? You drove a daughter of Demeter to a murderous rage. I think that's gonna take quite a bit to make up for it."
They both sighed, relaxing back against the ground as they shared a look. They communicated silently for a few moments, Travis opening his mouth to say something before Connor held up a hand. Finally, Connor turned back to me.
"We'll take her stable cleaning chores for the week," he said. Katie and I scoffed in sync.
"Nice try, Connor. How about this? Both of you take all of Katie's chore spots for the next week, and I'll schedule you a few extra rotations in the stables, since you seemed so willing to take over there. And if you wake me up this early in the morning by going after one of my siblings again, I might just roll over and go back to sleep while Katie takes care of the problem for me."
Travis huffed, flopping onto his back on the ground, and Connor narrowed his eyes at me.
"That seems a little harsh."
"Oh, by all means. Let me wake you up at five tomorrow with screaming and a run and see how you feel about it."
"Fine. Message recieved," he huffed, rolling his eyes. I waved my hand to free them both from the flower trap and they stood. They made it all the way to the door of the Hermes cabin, Travis shooting a wink at Katie as he went, before Connor paused and turned back to me. "We'll make sure to schedule our pranks in the late morning from now on."
The grin those two gave me before ducking through the door was mischief incranate, but I just sighed. Now that the crisis had been dealt with, all I wanted was to go back to sleep.
"I'm going to kill them," Katie huffed from beside me. I turned to her with a lopsided smile.
"Even Travis?"
"Of course Travis! Why would you even ask me that?" I raised an eyebrow at her, and despite her scowl, she blushed furiously. "Oh, shut up! A traitor in my own house..."
She shook her head, grumbling as she headed back to our cabin without looking back at me. I just grinned as I watched her go. As much as she liked to complain about the Stolls, I'd seen her shoulder to shoulder having the time of her life with them too many times to believe she really hated them. Travis especially.
The sound of a door opening and closing drew my attention away from Katie and back to the Hermes cabin. I got ready to hurl another handful of seeds if the Stolls had decided to pick possibly the worst time ever to show their faces again, but instead, I got a much nicer surprise. Luke, my boyfriend and the head counselor of the Hermes cabin, wandered out in a camp t-shirt and his pajama pants, his hair a delightfully ruffled mess.
"Hey," he called as he walked towards me. "Any idea why the Stolls just came running into my cabin muttering and plotting?"
"Is that not just the base state of Hermes kids?"
"Very funny," he huffed, and I grinned.
"They dumped a bucket of water on Katie's head this morning. I woke up to her screaming bloody vengance, and just managed to catch them before she got her revenge. In the interest of keeping the peace, I gave them all her chore spots in exchange for Katie not attacking them. Then I made sure they knew I wasn't going to get up to save them next time if something happened before nine am."
Luke laughed, pulling me in close for a hug as he finally reached me. I let him, leaning into his chest and sighing in the now-peaceful morning.
"You know they're just going to wait until about five minutes after nine now, right?"
"Yeah."
"As long as you're prepared. Still. That was good work." He pulled back with a smile, then leaned in as if to kiss me. I leaned back, putting a hand on his chest to stop him, and he frowned.
"Kisses are for boyfriends who don't abandon me to deal with his problem-children on my own. At five in the morning."
Luke huffed a laugh before pulling me back into his chest. I let him, although I put up a little resistance just to make my point.
"Hm. I don't suppose there's anything I can do to make it up to you? Get back in your good graces?"
"I don't know, Castellan. Connor and Travis made me run at five in the morning."
"Oh, it's Castellan now, is it?"
"Mhm."
"Alright. What if... I put together an extra-special date for us tonight? Something romantic, relaxing, and maybe even a little magical. Would that get me back in your good graces?"
I hummed pretending to think about it. Luke kissed the top of my head, then pulled back again enough to look me in the eye. He raised an eyebrow.
"Well?"
"I guess that might work. Depending on just how relaxing and romantic said date is."
"Oh, I can promise you right now, it'll be the most romantic and the most relaxing. And even better, I'll make sure nobody can interrupt us with camp problems, pranks, or anything else for the rest of the night."
"You really think you can make that happen?" I asked, letting the skepticism creep into my voice. By virtue of being two of the oldest campers who'd also been here close to the longest, we got roped into everything. Luke just grinned back at me, a little bit of his family resemblance to the Stolls creeping through via the glint in his eyes.
"I really think I can."
I grinned, dropping the huffy act and leaning up to kiss him on the cheek.
"Well, good. Because after this morning, I need a night like that with my favorite person."
"So I take it I'm at least mostly off the hook?"
"Mostly. All the way if and when we get our peaceful night tonight."
"Can't wait."
We shared a smile, then Luke leaned in to kiss me, and this time I let him. Despite the early hour, the moment alone with the camp so quiet as the sun rose over Long Island Sound was actually pretty nice. After a moment, though, I pulled back, and Luke and I shared a sigh.
"You wanna head to breakfast while we can still get away with sitting at the same table? Before the rest of the campers show up?"
"Always," he said, smiling again and taking my hand in his. The two of us headed off to the dining pavilion together, taking the rare opportunity to enjoy a peaceful morning together. Would I have preferred to still be asleep right now? Sure. But if I couldn't get that, then a nice, quiet morning with Luke wasn't a bad second option.

"15 minutes?" "15 minutes" ~ Luke castellan
Trigger warnings : nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's just pure fluff. And also a teeny tiny bit of angst if you squint. Also 'crystal' is lukes nickname for you.
Inspired by 'Abhi na jao chod kar'
You'd seen the way Luke seemed off for the past few days, yet whenever you went to ask him what was wrong, he'd smile and say that everything was fine.
But today, today was a lot worse and you could tell. He kept zoning out from time to time. During conversations with you, or training some random camper, even during lunch. But you knew that if you asked, he wouldn’t tell you anything. So you decided to wait until next morning. If he decided to tell you what was bothering him, well and good. If not, you're grilling it out of him.
But luckily the ‘grilling it outta him’ part wasn’t necessary. Since while you were sitting at the campfire, talking with a few of your friends, you saw Luke walking in the direction of his cabin. He noticed you looking at him, and with a cock of his head you were walking beside him to the roof of Cabin 11.
None of you said anything for a few moments even after both of you were comfortable on the hard wooden roof. “You wanna say something” Luke said first.
“Somethings on your mind, and its bugging you a lot isn’t it?” You replied.
“No” Luke lied straight through his teeth, making you look at him unimpressed. “Okay yeah fine.”
“Out with it, come on”
“It's nothing. Really. It'll pass”
“I'm sure it will. In the meantime though…”
“I don’t wanna bothe-“
“If you say you don’t wanna bother me with this, I will personally push you off this roof. So spill”
“You're mean. Why am I dating you again?”
“Because im amazing. And don’t try to distract me”
Luke let out a sigh when he realized you weren’t gonna let this go. He looked out at the camp, well the part of it he could see from the point of view on the roof. The campers around the campfire, laughing along, while the Apollo cabin lead a song.
“Ive been having this dream…” he started. “same dream for like, maybe the past 4? 5 days? Every night, same thing. Im…standing on this…beach…” he paused, seemingly trying to remember the exact details of his dream as if it wasn’t the only thing he had been thinking about all day.
“I'm sitting on the sand. You're in the water. Along with Chris, Travis, Connor…all of my siblings….Annabeth's there too. And Percy. Basically everyone important to me at camp.” He continued, making you hum in response.
He takes a deep breath and continues “but then, theres this huge wave, and, everyones gone. So I start shouting your names, looking for all of you, and I keep hearing your voice, screaming for help. All garbled like you're underwater or something. But I never manage to find you… so I keep looking and I find that” He points to the thin bracelet you were wearing he had got you, excuse me stole for you, once you mentioned you liked bracelets. “Just that. Nothing else. No one else”
You knew that Annabeth was one of the most important person to Luke in the whole world, probably even more than you. And no matter how much he acted like he hated his pigs of siblings, he had a huge soft spot for them as well. And Percy, the little boy was like a brother to him. Luke saw himself in Percy, and to him he mattered a lot.
So you weren’t surprised that Luke was afraid of missing the family he had built for himself. “I mean, I know something like this will never happen. But the way we live? It could.” he said after a while, “What if I lose everything?”
“You’re not going to lose everything Luke.” You say, trying to make him believe it. Hey, no ones perfect. Not everyones good at comforting people.
“It certainly feels like I might. What if I just wake up one day, and everyones gone. Im back to how I was at 12 years old. No chris, no Annabeth, no percy, no you. What happens then?”
“You know what the chances are that all three of them leave at the same time? Extremely low. Like maybe 5%. And even if it does, I know that those three are annoying enough that they’ll come back to haunt you and tease you about the extremely dumb decisions you make through the day.”
“Are you trying to make me laugh so that ill stop thinking about this?”
“Im trying, yes. Luke, what WILL you do, if something happened to Annabeth, or chris, or percy?” you asked him.
“I-I don’t know. I wouldn’t like it much to be very honest.”
“No one would. But you see, if something did happen, you'd go on with your life. A little boring maybe. But you'll live. That’s how life works. People come and people go and you try your best to make it out.”
“That sounds an awful lot like something a fortune cookie would say.”
“Im trying ok? I know you're scared Luke. That one day everything you're trying to protect will be taken away from you. But you have to know, that honestly all of them are strong enough to fight their way through Tartarus. And you're always gonna have them. Whenever you need them.”
“What about you? What if I don’t always have you?”
“OH no. You're not getting rid of me that easy. Even deaths not getting you out of this relationship.”
“Don’t say it like that.”
“What? Look you're always gonna have me. Ill even haunt you after I die if you want. Ok?”
“How about you don’t die. Huh? Can you do that for me?” he looked at you half with humor and half you wouldn’t wanna call fear.
“sure. I'll try.”“But what if-“
“You have me. No matter what. Im not going anywhere. You're not alone. And you never will be. Ok?” you reassured him. You're only half sure he believed you, but at least he acted like he did.
“I have you.” He mumbled.
“And you always will. Well unless you want me out of the room. Which lets be honest I wouldn’t leave, probably just to annoy you.” You joked causing him to grin for real, for the first time in days. “Oh thank the gods. I was starting to get scared you'd forgotten how to do that”
“Very funny.” He rolled his eyes good heartedly. Yet he took your hand, which was resting on the wooden roof beside you in his, and held it tightly.
“But in all honesty Princey, you're perfectly capable of fighting through everything alone. You're strong. Not that you're ever gonna need to fight alone. If its not me, its gonna be someone else sitting here.” You said after a few minutes.
“Nah.” Luke said suddenly. “Nope. Its always gonna be you. Nuh uh. Theres not gonna be anyone else sitting here.”
You chuckled, “I said if not when. If by some impossible ungodly chance. I'm not leaving. Not without annoying the heck outta you anyways.”
“You're not that annoying.” Luke said with a touch of humor in his voice.
“Oh really?” you got up in his face, “Really? Really? Dam im gonna have to try harder then” you flick his nose with your free hand.
“Ow.” He rubbed his rubbed his nose without any real pain his voice, “I take back what I said. You're really annoying.”
“No no no no” you waved your finger in front of him, “You said it already, no take backs. Congratutatulations Mr. Castellan, You're stuck with me for life now, since you're the only one who thinks im not annoying. So I have made it my life mission to annoy you to death.”
Luke burst out laughing when you said ‘congratutatulations’. “Congratutatulations? What?” he said in between laughs.
You chuckled along with him, proud of yourself for making him laugh, “Yea. Remember that cake I brought you, when you were made head counsellor?”
Luke thought back for a moment, “That had congratulations written on it?” He started but was confused when you shook your head, “What?”
“It had congratutatulations written on it. You're dyslexic, you couldn’t tell.”
“That’s why you were laughing your butt off?!”
“Yes. Gods I felt so bad for the poor baker that day. He looked so tired, maybe he was dyslexic too. Either way, he was running on 5 cups of coffee so I couldn’t blame the poor guy.”
“How nice of you to do that.”
“Yes yes. Im very nice.”
“Sure honey whatever you say.”
“Hey!” you exclaimed when he started snickering. You looked down at the campfire, seeing how campers were starting to go back to their cabins, “We should get going, no?”
“No.” Luke held on to your hand a little tighter, making you look at him, “You siblings can handle themselves for one night.”
“No I know that. Im more worried about your cabin.” You countered.
“I told Chris to tuck everyone in.”
“Yes, I'm sure the Stolls are gonna listen to him.” You looked at him, unimpressed.
“They wont, but I couldn’t care less. Im staying. Don’t go?” he looked you straight in the eyes.
You huff out a breath, “fine.” Causing Luke to smile, “Its 9. Stay till 10. Then I'll let you go back to the cabin. I promise.” He said and you scooted closer to him, leading him to wrap an arm around you shoulder, bringing you in front of him.
So now, here you were, sitting between Luke’s legs, your back against his chest, while he explained why he was better than fish in all aspects.
“No. im serious. I even have a better breathing rate than fish.”
“How do you know you have better breathing rate than fish?” you asked him.
“Isn’t that what you said once? Or was it Annabeth? That there’s less oxygen in water so fish have to breath a lot more times than we do?” he asked, confused.
“I don’t remember who told you that.”
“Yes. But its true.”
“Alright fine. You're better than fish in one aspect. What about everything else?”
“I look better than fish. I mean, okay they're all colourful and stuff. But seriously. I look better, right?” he looked down and saw you dozing off, “Crystal?”
“Im awake.” You woke up and looked at him.
“Yea, you are. Stay awake. I cant sleep.” He argued.
“You're the worst. What time is it?” You turned Luke’s wrist so you could look at the time on his watch, “Its 10.” You said after you saw the time.
“Till 11?” He asked sheepishly.
“Lu-” you started, but he interrupted you, “You just came here. A little bit longer.” He said in the voice, you couldn’t say no too, so you relented, getting comfortable in your spot again.
You leaned back a little bit more, wrapping Lukes arms around you a little bit tighter when the cool breeze started getting to you.
“You smell nice. New perfume?” Luke asked suddenly. But when you shook your head, he thought back and realized it was one of your old perfume, “Nah nevermind, you’ve used this before.” And you chuckled when he remembered.
“What?” You asked when you noticed him looking at you, the same way he knew would make you weak in the knees. How did he know all your weaknesses?
“What?” he asked in return, “I can look at you. Its not a crime to look at something that’s beautiful.”
“Oh ok. Now I know you're getting tired.” You giggled sleepily.
“Huh?” Luke thought for a few moments in silence. “Hey crystal?” he asked, making you hum in answer. “What makes humans…..humans?”
“Very philosophical. But um….love I guess. Everything is always about love. And when its not. Its about the absence of love.”
“So you…you make me human.” He realized.
“I don’t make you a human. You were a human long before you met me”
“Yes, but when I'm with you, I'm not just surviving. I'm living.”
“Luke?”
“Yes darling?”
“Did you read my book annotations again?”
“NO. I remember things you know?”
“OK cool.”
At this point, you were so tired that even the slightest things were making you giggle.
“She'd laughed. And if he could have bottled the sound up and gotten drunk on it, he would have” he whispered in your ear.
“Are you quoting Kaz Brekker to me?” you asked turning to your side to face him.
“I told you. I remember things. Tell me about your day.”
“I already told you.”
“No. you told me, that you woke up late. Missed breakfast. Got to lunch first. Gobbled everything up. Had archery. 10 bulls eyes outta 12 shots. Then you got to dinner after cleaning the archery range up. Gobbled everything up. Then you went to the bon fire.”
“Yea that’s everything.”
“You really cant expect me to believe that nothing interesting happened all day.”
“Nothing happened. It was a boring day.”
“Nothing happened with you friends? What about the one…um… Rihhana? Something was going on in her life right?”
“Oh yea. Completely forgot about that. You know how she likes Aaron from cabin 6?”
“Mhm”
“Yea so. This girls really a genius. She's been ignoring him for the past few weeks, like shes been trying to get over him. But you know? His ego is crrrrrushed” you rolled the r and laughed. “I love it. I mean he doesn’t deserve her you know?”
“You think no guy deserves your friends.”
“Of course I do. They are literal works of art. They deserve better.”
“Of course.”
“I saw the look on Aarons face when she didn’t even look at him. Boy was devastated. It was hilarious.”
Luke saw your face light up with energy whenever you spilled all the juicy details about whatever was going on at camp.
Sleep long forgotten as you started telling him the whole story about Rihhana and Aaron.Which took around an hour, which meant enough time for you to recharge and forget the fact that you were falling asleep some time ago.
When you finished your daily updates and Luke was done listening attentively and laughing whenever you took to looking back out at the lake.
“Hey crystal?” He tried grabbing your attention, which lead to you humming in response. “Don’t go. Not yet.”
“I'm not going anywhere. But if the harpies eat me alive im gonna make them eat you too. Okay?”
“Okay”
“Oh fault in our stars.”
“No no no no. absolutely not. Were not doing that. Nope nope nope.”
The way he was suddenly panicky over a little books name made you laugh.
“I swear to the gods, I hope no one ever asks me what my favourite sound is.” Luke said after you were done laughing.
You look at him confused, “why? I don’t think describing the waves in the sea is that hard.”
“NO no. see that’s my second favourite sound. If someone asks me what my favourite sound is, how am I supposed to explain your laugh? Huh? A horse that swallowed a bug? A car engine that won't start? The sound someone makes when they eat something spicy?” He rambled on.
“Ok while I'm extremely flattered that my laugh is your favourite sound in the world. Im going to kill you for calling my laugh all of those things.” You turned and glared at him. And the audacity of this man to laugh. Ugh! As if. So you slapped him on the back of his head. Simple.
“Luke whats the time?” You asked him when h ewas finally done laughing, to which he replied that the time was 11 30. “Im sorry the time is what?”
“11:30?” he answered, “you know, every twelve hours when its eleven, theres also a time, mostly after 30 minutes, and that time is called 11:30.” He got slapped on the back of his head again.
“Luke we gotta get back, someone is definitely gonna snitch on us.” You tilted your head up to look at him.
“You say it like we don’t have dirt on everyone who might snitch on us.”
“You make it sound like we’re manipulative people.”
“OK yea, maybe not that. But everyone is probably asleep by now. Stay. Please. I like spending time with you.”
“You always do this.”
“What?”
“That. You say ‘please’ like that. And then I don’t feel like going back.”
“I don’t necessarily see the problem here. I like having you with me.”
“Yes but have you maybe realized that I need my beauty sleep.”
“You cant go.”
“Why not?”
“Because you love me way too much and you would break my heart if you leave” he said dramatically.
“ha ha. Very funny”
“No im serious. I just…its not enough. Let me have you till my hearts content.”
“It's never content.”
He kissed your cheek trying to make you stay. Whenever you opened your mouth to give a good reason why you should leave, he would kiss your cheek making every reason die out. Which lead to him kissing your cheek about 15 times before you relented and got comfortable again.
“15 minutes?”
"15 minutes.”
I don’t think its necessary to say that you guys stayed there way past 15 minutes. You guys stayed on the roof until the sky was getting lighter, at which point Luke suggested you guys go back to your cabin so he wouldn’t have to face the teasing looks he got from his siblings.

“rise and shine, my lovely buffalos!” clarisse’s voice rang loudly.
“stop, no,” jason groaned from the opposite side of the room, grabbing a pillow to cover his ears.
“I love you, but it’s christmas eve. let us sleep in, clarisse! even jace wants to!” I yelled.
I cracked an eye open, and sunlight filtered through the now-open door as clarisse walked in, her hand intertwined with a sleepy chris’.
“oh, the light, i’m going to go blind, merde-” I rambled and picked up a pillow, throwing it in the general area of the cabin’s door. a thwap sounded as clarisse caught the pillow before it maimed chris.
“man, wake up, where’s the christmas cheer, yeah?” chris said, extremely unenthusiastically.
“you’re half asleep, dude. let me sleep,” jason mumbled.
“yeah, we all know clarisse dragged you here-” suddenly, my blanket was yanked off my body as I muttered a string of curse words. “nooooooo, my lovely and warm blanket-”
a squeal sounded from jason’s side of the room and I sat up on my bed to see him blanket-less as well. satisfied that I wasn’t the only one who was being annoyed by the two lovebirds, I grinned.
“you know, this is the first time you didn’t wake up the second your clock hit 5 in the morning,” I chuckled at jason.
before he could reply, clarisse started ordering us around. “get out of your pyjamas and come around to the dining pavillion for breakfast at 8.”
she glanced at jason’s and mine matching lightning mcqueen pyjamas, and grinned. chris and her walked out, leaving the door open.
“at least close the door,” I mumbled.
we disappeared into our sides of the room to get ready, and met up outside the cabin in 20 minutes.
it was absolutely serene to wake up to an almost-empty camp as it was snowing, with the harpies asleep. a butterfly landed on jason’s nose and I smiled. in that moment, it felt like nothing could disrupt the harmony of the world-
“HEY, WEATHERMAN! oh hello, lovely n/n,” leo skidded to a stop in front of us and grinned.
“morning, princess,” I said. leo and I did our handshake, as jason was still preoccupied with the butterfly.
“dude, how did you not wake up at 5? did your alarm malfunction? I can fix it for ya,” leo commented, looking at jason.
“what, i’m not allowed to wake up late?” he rolled his eyes, and started walking towards breakfast. leo and I followed him, talking about our prank war against the stoll twins and the general ongoings of camp half-blood.
we all take our seats at the hermes cabin’s table since chiron decided we should just sit at the same table because we’re only 40-ish campers, as compared to the usual 150 or more.
jason talks with clarisse for a while as leo and I engage in conversation with connor and travis, as we wait for the food. when everything we could ever want for breakfast turns up in our plates, we collectively get up and make a line to offer some food to the gods. I drop in a portion of my french fries and some vegetables I didn’t want.
“good luck receiving burnt vegetables, my dudes on olympus,” leo said, looking at me dropping some broccoli into the pyre, making me roll my eyes.
as we ate, chiron walked trotted in and took his seat at the head of the table, as mr. d echoed his actions on the other side.
“merry christmas eve, kids,” chiron said. “we have an announcement to make.”
we stopped talking between ourselves and turned towards chiron.
“as you all know, most of our campers have left camp to visit their families for the winter,” chiron said, as we all nodded along.
“and in lieu of the small number of you left in camp, we wanted to let you know that we are giving you pesky kids permission to have a ‘party’ for christmas.” mr. d continued. “and as a bonus, for gods know what reason, chiron asked to send any four of you to the mortal world to buy some decorations, or whatever, and anything else you might need.”
chatter broke out at the news of camp’s first ever christmas party.
“no alcoholic drinks will be permitted, unfortunately,” mr. d remarked sadly, which no one bothered to hear.
by the end of breakfast, we were all talking about the things we’d need for the party, and I began making a list. after an hour of begging, chiron decided that jason, leo, travis, and I (or as mr. d called us: “lee, jackson, tyler, and r/n”) could go to buy decorations and food ingredients. he gave us a few american dollars, and told us to eat something with any remaining money. he also pulled jason and me aside, asking us to look after the other two.
we piled into the camp car with travis driving, and leo beside him. ever the passenger princess, he put on his sunglasses, turned up the radio, and started singing to some pop music.
in about half an hour, we reached a store called 7-eleven (“but why would you name a shopping centre in numbers?” leo had asked us the last time we’d been there) and walked into the store, the sound of the bell resonating behind us.
we split into each of the four aisles for food, use-and-throw cutlery, decorations, and board & card games.
I finished picking out the decorations first and met up with jason, who got lots of food, near the cashier.
“ooh, percy, hazel and nico would’ve loved the cocoa and marshmallows,” I said to jason, peeping into his basket.
“yeah. and frank, will and annie would’ve loved to help you put up all those streamers and everything,” he said.
I realised that it was the first time we were spending christmas without them.
“why do you guys look like someone ran over your favourite stuffed toy? it’s christmas eve, guys! cheer up!” travis said, slapping jason’s back.
leo joined us too, suddenly smacking my shoulder as well, earning himself a glare from jason.
jason and I scanned travis and leo’s baskets to make sure they didn’t get anything extra. satisfied, jason grabbed all four baskets and made small talk with the cashier about a football game till the billing finished.
“shotgun!” leo called, as soon as we got our receipt, and he ran away along with travis to get into the car. I chuckled and took two of the four bags from jason.
from the store, we drove to a cafe for some coffee and bagels before getting back to camp.
timeskip
by half past 10, the hecate, tyche, hebe, hypnos, hera, poseidon, and hephaestus cabins had all the decorations set up, while the athena, demeter, nike, iris, and hades cabins whipped up the foods. the remaining cabins (ares, apollo, artemis, zeus, hermes, nemesis, aphrodite, and dionysus) set up the various games and logs for the campfire. chiron and mr. d chopped and dragged a tree from the woods to decorate.
we began settling down in a circle around the campfire with the decorated and well-lit christmas tree to one side. the apollo kids began singing, and the hermes kids put on their own version of a musical they called ‘hamilton’.
games were played and christmas carols were sung until we felt sleepy, and the chirping of the crickets increased. I was on my fourth cup of hot chocolate (jason said it wasn’t healthy, but whatever) and fifth packet of mini marshmallows, while leo was… passed out beside me from way more than just five cups of hot chocolate and lots of candy. typical leo valdez sugar crash.
“ay, mon amour,” I laughed at him.
beside me, jason was smiling warmly at the fire. his face was glowing in the harsh light of the campfire, making him look every part thalia’s brother.
I was a few months younger than jason, but I was at camp before he stumbled in. thalia was almost like my blood sister, always taking care of me. at this moment, everything about jason reminded me of the girl I once loved like a sister.
campers’ clocks struck 12, echoing wishes of ‘merry christmas’ throughout the camp.
“merry christmas, n/n,” jason smiled down at me.
“merry christmas, weatherman.”
“N/N!!! mErrY cHriStMaaaaaaaS!-“
“merry christmas, your honour, bad boy supreme,” I laughed at leo.
getting up from our spots on the mattresses around the campfire, everyone made their way into the hermes cabin. they had the biggest beds, and we’d all gotten our cabin’s heaters into one for more warmth.
the stolls fell onto the bed first, followed by around 10-12 campers, jason, leo and me. everyone readjusted themselves to comfort, and we were all falling asleep.
in the morning, I wouldn’t have anyone to share a miraculous christmas kiss with, but I will have many hugs to give to the boys I loved like my own brothers, and that would be enough for me any day.
bonus!
“i’m not crying, you are,” chiron said, wiping a stray tear away, looking at the huge cuddle pile in the hermes cabin. “my babies!”
mr. d scoffed at him.

★ only you
i lied i went and rewrote another oneshot instead of doing my ocs teehee
wc: 2.4k words
contains: unspecified godly parent and mutual subtle pining
"I swear to the gods, Stoll, if you do that one more time, I'm going to drown you."
"Yeah?" Connor mocked, cocking his head to the side and grinning like he was about to push you underwater again. Both of you tread the seawater, chins just touching the cool surface. "And what are you going to do if I splash black dye on all your clothes?"
"I'm gonna change my style, move to the Hades cabin, and stay there," You replied stubbornly. "I can learn to get along with Nico and Hazel, anyway." You glanced toward the shallower part of the beach, where Percy was trying to get the di Angelo to learn how to swim. He was clinging to him and Jason like a scared cat, pale shaky limbs glistening in the sunlight.
"Have you forgotten that Hazel is Roman? Better get used to Will's sweet-talking!" Connor splashed water in your face, getting it up your nose.
"Shit—stop!" You coughed and swam closer to him, despite strands of hair uncomfortably sticking to your forehead and a dull ache in your nose. "Does he really talk like…like that around Nico?"
"No, but he stares a lot. Like he has a really obvious stare and stops doing everything just to stare." Connor glanced at Will, sitting ankle-deep at the shore, waves lapping at his shins. "Who knows, he might be imagining them swapping spit with each other—"
You hissed and clapped a hand over his mouth. He pushed your hand away and laughed. "He's so far. He can't hear us. RIGHT, WILL?"
The blond looked up and squinted in your direction. "Huh?" His voice was barely audible over the sloshing of the waves.
You shot Connor a glare. Then you felt a leg hook around yours. Before you could retort you were pulled beneath the surface again. You grabbed his shoulder and hauled yourself back up out of the water, grumbling and wiping the saltwater from your eyes.
"Fuck. You." You started to swim towards the shore, wading through the water.
"Hey, come back! I haven't had enough fun with you. Can we at least race?"
You called him over and waved your hand, getting an idea. You stopped after a few feet, looking down at the sea floor as your shirt billowed with the movement of the waves. Connor caught up to you. "What is it?"
"I think there's a watch there."
"A watch?"
"Yeah, there."
"I can't see it."
"Yeah, because you have to look closely, dumbass."
"There?"
"Yes, there."
"Is it a Rolex?"
"I don't know." You hoped he couldn't hear the smile in your voice. Then, while he had his head bent over the surface, trying to see what you were pointing at, you took the chance and shoved his head down, creating splashes as you did.
You laughed with satisfaction at getting him back as he coughed and spluttered. While he caught his bearings, you tried to continue swimming. But when Percy asked you a question, you stood still, letting your guard down. This gave Connor an opportunity to sneak up behind you and push you back down under the water by your shoulders, which of course, he did.
"Y/N, Connor's taking forever in the showers." Travis plopped down on the biggest hammock, the one you had taken the liberty of occupying. He threw you off balance and almost made you drop the pretty rock you had found.
Leo Valdez was splayed on another hammock with Piper McLean, making something with twigs and a soda can. "You think he drowned?"
Travis settled down and caused you to drop your rock. "He's not. He answered me when I called him."
You shook your head at the thought of your crush in the shower and frowned. "Why are you asking me about this?" Crush? Yes. Exactly. You found it a bit funny that you developed feelings for Connor, out of all people in camp, but once you looked past the rocks in your pillows and vinegar in your pancake syrup, he wasn't too bad. Then again, you had to endure the water up your nose to be around him as well.
You stuck your arm through the hammock and picked your rock off the soil. "We don't even have bathtubs at camp."
"You never know."
"What the Hades is that supposed to mean?"
For the next hour or two, your mind alternated between wandering off or going blank (and maybe Connor with wet hair). The others who went swimming joined you as well, either climbing the trees to talk with their friends more or laying on the hammocks. Others went back to their cabins. You lay there, soaking up the sun and feeling too lazy to even adjust yourself. You turned the rock over and over in your hand.
Clovis from the Hypnos cabin yawned. "It would be nice to take a nap. I'm tired..." His head drooped down and he snored.
At that, you felt more tempted to nap more than ever, but your doziness was interrupted by a shout.
"Guys!" Connor called. He ran towards your area at full speed. He could've stopped, but he tripped over a tree root. He straightened up, grinning and pushing curls out of his eyes.
You bit back a smirk, not sure if out of pettiness or endearment. "Did you find a serpent in the drain? Is that why it took you three hours?"
"No. Well, kind of. I was, um, I was taking a shower, obviously, and there was a worm. Anyway, we have a new camper! I couldn't find you guys," He pouted.
"Really? Who?" Travis asked. "Where from?"
"Uhm, California."
"Everyone's from California," Someone up in a nearby tree scoffed.
"She's a legacy from Camp Jupiter! Her parents are Greek, children of Nemesis and Demeter! And they actually got to survive past 25, with a house and all. Do you know how cool that is?!" Connor rambled.
Murmurs erupted. Very few adults were seen around Camp Half-Blood. It was even more rare to even hear of them living long enough to have children. You started wondering what it would be like to be a child of two demigods.
Connor jumped, is if an electric shock went through him. "Oh yeah, I forgot. Austen!"
Will had a half-brother named Austin. You looked at him with raised eyebrows and he shrugged, equally as clueless as you.
Connor disappeared again, but came back pulling a girl's hand along. She had shoulder length blonde hair and freckles sprinkled over her nose bridge, her face had strong features and she was dressed in a blouse with a cartoon character on it and jean shorts.
Leo snickered. "Imagine if this one's named Austen River."
You were too busy thinking about how Connor was acting with her. Or maybe you were a little weird for thinking he might have held her hand for a little too long, who knows?
He glanced shyly at her. "So...you're staying in the Hermes cabin for now, right?" He chuckled. "Sorry. We're sorted by godly parent here. Not sure where you're going to be put."
"Actually," Austen tucked a strand of hair behind her ear— "I was told I'll be staying in the Nemesis cabin." Connor's eager smile faded a little.
You spoke up, trying to ignore that last bit. "What's it like in New Rome?" You hoped your voice didn't sound as stiff as you felt.
Whatever she said about New Rome or Camp Jupiter or California or her demigod parents went into one of your ears and left through the other. Instead you had paid attention to how Connor would glance at her or how he laughed whenever she'd slip in a joke or two. He put his hands in his pockets and hooked his thumbs around the belt loops, which made you frown a bit. That was a nervous habit of his.
You felt a bit guilty for being so jealous. Did you often feel like this? Was it normal?
Sometime later, one of the people in our group jumped and yelped that it was almost time for Capture the Flag.
Austen looked down, mumbling something about how she had heard of it but never played or heard of how exactly to play it. Connor perked up, and offered to teach her, even to show her some tricks and spots.
That's alright. Like you gave a shit. Besides, that didn't hurt much. It only stung like a Hellhound's bite. In the ass. Through a tight pair of crispy scratchy jeans.
As if your day hadn't already turned sour enough, you had turned up with a sunburn from earlier at the beach.
You also would have said some more colorful insults and statements, but you felt like keeping it to yourself today. It was because you had seen Connor laughing with Austen with an arm over her shoulders. Your conscience told you that you shouldn't assume, but you snapped back at it, saying it was different when you had a crush. Besides, you knew Connor, and that boy was never that clingy on the first day of meeting someone. He never put his arm around people much, either.
The Fates must have felt particularly mischievous that day, too, because Connor and you had ended up on the same damn team in Capture the Flag. That might have sounded good, but what if he let Austen's team win?
You were left with him on the defensive, guarding the flag and standing on either side of the pole, facing away from each other.
"What do you think of Austen?" He asked.
You rolled your eyes while he couldn't see your face. Wow. No hi, hello, do you have any strategies in mind or anything. Just straight to Austen. Alright. "She's fine."
"Uh huh. Well, do—"
"Do you like her?" You blurted out. When you realized you said it out loud, you decided, fuck it, and faced him. He turned to you as well, looking surprised from what you could see of his face under his helmet.
"What?"
You looked down, mumbling so you wouldn't seem too upset. "Dude, you had an arm around her earlier. And...I saw you staring at her."
"Does that mean you always look at me as well?"
You immediately scowled, digging the sole of your shoe into the forest ground. "Shut up!" When he wouldn't look away from you, you frowned even deeper. That made a victorious smile start to bloom on his face.
He crossed his arms. "What's the matter? Jealous?"
For a moment, your breath caught in your throat. Luckily for you, your mind reacted quickly. "I mean, if you like Austen so much I can go with your buddy Isaac. He has been dropping a lot of hints lately. Then you'll know I'm not jealous, right?"
"Isaac? Dropping hints? Wow. You really think he'd treat you better than I would?"
"What?"
"What?"
You gripped your weapon, feeling your palms get sweaty. Your eyes widened. "You tell me!"
Connor raised his hands in surrender. "Um...You first! Why are you being weird?"
"Why are you so clingy with Austen all of a sudden? Do you like her? It's been, like, 2 hours since she came here, Connor."
Connor took off his helmet. "I don't like her! Chiron told me to give her a tour! I was on my way here when she arrived." He laughed. What was so funny about this? This boy had a strange sense of humor.
"Then what about you going to the Big House with her?"
"Y/N, I twisted my ankle." He glanced down, and you followed his gaze to see some compression gauze around his left ankle peeking out from the collar lining of his dirty shoe. "And besides, I've only liked one person for...um, a long time."
Your expression softened. "Who?"
He took a deep breath, then pressed so hard on the hilt of his sword hanging at his hip, that his hand slipped. He put his thumbs through his pants' belt loops. "Um...please don't get mad..."
Why would you be mad? "It's you, Y/N. Only you. For a year or two." He laughed nervously. "Or more."
"Me?" You asked incredulously, jaw dropping. You felt a shock run through you, not believing what you just heard.
"No, the nymph over there."
A tall, slim girl with braided hair and skin tinted green appeared beside you, scowling. You nearly jumped out of your skin at that. "Don't drag me into your lovers' quarrel!" Then she disappeared into green mist.
You looked back at Connor. "You're serious?"
"No, I'm Connor."
"Connor, please."
"Yes! Yes, of course, you! It's been so damn long, Y/N! I've been scared that you wouldn't like me back, you know, but since you asked, I can't not say it, okay? I haven't crushed on anyone else in years, because of how your eyes look when you talk about something you like, or your smile, or the way you speak, and how clingy you can get without knowing it when you're tired because you want someone to lean on. You're the only one who's on my mind, all the time. Only you." He cleared his throat, then inhaled through his teeth. He looked just as flustered as I felt.
"Oh. Me...me too." You mustered the courage to respond. Your head almost spun from the information, but at the same time your heart was going to break out of your ribcage from joy. "Me too, I-I like you a lot, I like you so much, Con, you keep me awake at night, too."
He sighed, relieved at your response. He then approached you, helmet under his arm. You reached out to take his hand, face breaking out into a grin, but then your thoughts interrupted you two once again, via your mouth. "Hey, Con."
"Yes?" You almost squealed in giddiness with the heart-eyed look he was giving you at that moment.
"What if Austen likes you?"
"Oh, no, I'm gay," Said a third voice. You spun around to see Austen, still in her cartoon design shirt and shorts, a bow slung over her shoulder and a knife in her hand. "...That's okay, right?" She asked.
"Oh, yeah, totally." Connor shrugged.
Austen relaxed. "Okay." Then she tried darting past you two, but you jumped into position, blocking her way.
You realized a second too late that your efforts were directed at a decoy. "Thank you!" Someone shouted. Annabeth Chase stood at your base, holding your flag, grinning proudly.

Jasico Week 2024 - Day 1
Words: 3,058 Rating: General Audiences Type: Oneshot
Description: Nico, Camp Half-Bloods demigod with the largest contraband collection, helps Jason have a quiet birthday devoid of all Stoll pranks. Birthday cake and Mario Kart included.
Sidenote: This fic was written for @jasico-challenges Jasico week 2024 event!
Full fic under the cut! However, the formatting is a bit better on AO3 since I’m posting this from mobile lol.
Alone time at camp was hard to get. It was even harder if you happened to go to camp at a time that aligned with when the Stoll brothers went to camp. Unfortunately for Jason, he fell into that bracket of poor souls.
Not only did the Stolls insist on knowing everyone’s birthday, they also insisted on making a personalized prank on that very day. Beyond that sphere of horrible intent, they also told everyone they knew that it was your birthday—they knew everyone at camp.
Jason was still shuddering in remembrance of the last camper who the two of them had gotten their hands on. The prank wasn’t pretty, nor was the aftermath. Said camper still walked a wide circle around those two.
Nico had somehow managed to scrape away with never enduring one of their birthday pranks. Wether he paid them off or if they just respected him enough to leave him alone was up for debate. They were his first two real friends at camp, and was known for aiding their pranks when needed, so maybe they just couldn’t do as good of a prank without him that they didn’t bother.
However it happened didn’t matter to Jason. All that he cared about was Nico never got pranked, and he was determined not to either.
Jason slammed his breakfast tray down on the Hades table with enough conviction to conjure several glares from other campers. He didn’t care enough to look back, but he’d certainly gotten Nico’s attention.
Nico pulled off his headphones, hardly taking the time to set down his fork. “Good gods, what?” Nico said, pausing his iPod. It was the closest thing to updated technology that all of camp had, and Nico clung to the thing rather strong.
Jason sat down, ignoring the rules saying he should be at his own table. “I need a favor,” he said.
“Great?” Nico said, picking his fork back up.
Jason groaned. “Come on!”
“I didn’t say no.”
Jason took a breath, hope singing his name on the horizon. Maybe he was being dramatic, but he hadn’t had a birthday to himself in years, and he would’ve killed a titan by himself for one right now.
“My birthday is tomorrow,” Jason said leaning forward like it was a huge secret.
Nico picked at his oatmeal. “I’m aware.”
Of course, Nico was the only person other than Piper and Leo who knew his birthday at camp. He’d told him on the Argo II one night when they were both not tired enough to sleep but too tired to go to their own rooms. Nico had also told him his birthday, and they made a pact to not tell anyone and have secret birthdays.
Jason picked up his one apple. “I need you to keep Connor and Travis at bay.”
Nico raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want camp to know?”
Jason shook his head. “I just…want some alone time.”
Nico nodded, thick black hair falling into his eyes only to be pushed back into place. Jason watched a ringed hand settle back comfortably with his plastic fork a little too closely and happened to notice that he held it like it was the finest silverware in the world. Jason pried his eyes away.
“Ok,” Nico said, taking another bite.
“Really?”
“Yup.”
Jason felt mildly silly for all his forcefulness earlier. He really didn’t expect this to be so easy. However, knowing Nico, he should’ve known he caved easy when it came to asking favors—at least ones from Jason.
Jason nodded. He took a bite of his apple to punctuate the conversation. He stayed in his spot, deciding he’d just eat breakfast with Nico.
“Thanks. By the way,” Jason tacked on.
Nico shrugged, reaching for his iPod. “No problem.”
He put on his headphones again, defending his ears from the chatter of the rest of the camp currently eating breakfast. The two ate in silence, something Jason wasn’t particularly used to but couldn’t say he minded.
The next day, Jason woke up late and decided to just skip breakfast. He stretched, realizing like a kid on Christmas that it was his birthday. His birthday, and he had the whole day to himself.
He stayed in his pajamas, stretched out on his bed with the Nintendo DS Nico had leant him and played Pokemon White for an absurd amount of time.
Just as his beloved Pikachu was about to faint, he felt this sudden naggin in the back of his head. Something ebbed at his mind. He glanced towards the clock and realized that it was well into the afternoon. Secondly, he was bored.
Very bored.
He wasn’t sure when the boredom became so apparent, but it was there now. He chewed his lip, too distracted in his thoughts for pokemon, and willingly lost his currently battle before saving and tucking the DS away in his nightstand.
Jason laid back, listening to campers outside. He had assumed a day alone would be the best day of his life. After spending his whole life around everyone every day all the time, he figured some much needed alone time was in order. However, this was downright miserable.
Jason’s mind wandered to Nico, which it seemed to be doing very often as of late. He wondered how the Ghost King spent his time alone so frequently. Did he get lonely too? Was he ever bored cooped up in that cabin?
Jason glanced at the clock again, hoping some substantial time had passed. It hadn’t.
He groaned and pulled himself from his bed, lazily walking to his door and starting the trek to the Hades cabin. He walked around the back of the cabins, praying that training was keeping everyone distracted enough for them not to be crowding the back path made by sneaky teens looking for some alone time of their own.
He was lucky, as everyone was too distracted by whatever atrocity was happening on the rock climbing wall to notice him slinking around.
He walked around the front of Nico’s door, banging with enough urgency to get the point across. Nico called a “What?” mildly exasperatedly.
Jason tugged open the door before darting to hide behind it and slam it closed.
“Great Hades, Jason,” Nico said, setting down his controller and looking up from Mario Kart.
Jason let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “Hello to you too.”
Nico rolled his eyes before raking them over Jason. “Nice pajamas.”
Jason looked down at his purple plaid pants and white shirt with a few too many holes in it to be written off as well loved. “Thanks. And to you as well.”
Nico’s hair was pulled off his neck with a hairband, and he wore a black camp hoodie, shorts, and fuzzy socks. It wasn’t the most practical summer wear, but Nico’s cabin was cold as ice.
“Happy birthday,” Nico said. “I assumed you would stay in your cabin all day and enjoy your day off.”
Jason shrugged. “Thanks. I got bored.”
Nico scooted over in the floor, letting Jason see into the bottom of his closet where all his contraband was hidden. A TV and a Wii U sat, accompanied by several video games.
“Wanna join?” he asked, patting the spot beside him and digging for a second controller. “I’ve been trying to beat Connor’s high score for an hour.”
Jason sat beside him, taking the controller. Nico had taught him how to play the Wii, but it still felt foreign in his hands.
Nico flipped back to the menu screen, letting Jason pick a character. Nico was playing as Rosalina. When no one was around, he was always Rosalina. Otherwise, he was Shy Guy. Jason was slightly embarrassed that he knew this and had committed it to memory, but decided it just meant Nico trusted him. Even with something as small as Mario Kart, Nico trusted him.
Jason picked Yoshi. Unlike Nico, he didn’t have much preference.
They began the game, Nico effortlessly in first place. Jason was dead last, but he couldn’t care less about that. It was probably because he couldn’t get his eyes off Nico’s screen, and to make matters worse, couldn’t get his eyes off Nico in general.
Jason hadn’t quite come to terms with his crush yet, if you couldn’t tell.
Nico knew every secret of every track. He knew how to cheat the game, to go backwards and still somehow win. It was almost as if he had the coding in his mind, mouse hovering and fingers clacking to will the game in his favor.
Some may think this made playing with him boring, seeing as no one but Connor could ever manage to beat him. Jason disagreed. This was something akin to Elysium.
Watching the way Nico’s hands worked against the controller, the way he scrunched his eyebrows just slightly in concentration, and most importantly, the glimmer of youth in his eyes that was so rare now. It was fun to lose. It was fun because Nico got to win.
Nico passed the final lap, throwing his arms up in celebration. “Finally!” he grinned. Jason watched as Nico wrote something down on a notebook beside him, stopping a stopwatch that looked older than both of them. He leaned over to see a list of names, each scratched one and replaced by one beneath it. Most of the names were either Nico, Connor, Travis, or Clovis, but a few other campers had weaseled their way into the leaderboard.
Nico scratched out an all-caps Connor and wrote Nico in his neat handwriting, accompanied by his winning time.
Jason struggled for a moment, but eventually passed the finish line in last place, also grinning.
“You did better this time,” Nico said, smiling at him.
“Still got last.”
“At least you didn’t go backwards the whole time this round.”
Jason watched the excited youth fade off Nico’s face, leaving just a mildly happy boy in its wake. He wanted more than anything to see the pure joy on Nico’s face again.
“Quite the improvement,” Jason said, matching his lopsided smile. “How’d you get so good at video games anyways?”
Nico shrugged. “Lotus Casino,” he replied, as if it cleared up anything. “Wanna go again?”
Jason nodded, letting him queue up another map. Nico eventually passed him controller 1, a sign of great respect.
“You pick.” He said. Nico had a very firm ‘you win, you choose,’ rule because he was very particular about his maps.
Jason threw up his eyebrows. “Really?”
“Yeah. Birthday boy picks. Just don’t pick Moo Moo Meadows.”
Jason picked Moo Moo Meadows. Nico groaned, but took controller 1 back and accepted his fate.
About halfway through the game, Nico was in first and Jason was, yet again, dead last.
Nico’s eyes flicked over to Jason’s hands. He sat down his own controller, putting his hands over Jason’s.
“If you just…” he started, guiding Jason’s hands over the controller.
Jason was a bit too flustered to fully take in what Nico was saying, but the slight burning sensation in his hands and face was enough for him to partially remember the hand movements.
This time, Nico finished in eighth, and Jason in fifth. Not Nico’s personal best, but definitely Jason’s.
Nico grinned. “You got top five.” Jason cheered. “Another?” Nico asked, dutifully writing down Jason’s place in the page of the notebook titled “Jason Grace’s Personal Bests”
Jason nodded, and they continued their game until light no longer poured in the windows, and the only thing illuminating them was the TV screen.
They finally tired themselves out on the game. Nico won every round after that, but Jason slowly climbed the leaderboard. Nico wrote down each small victory until one round, where Jason was second and Nico was first.
Wether it was on purpose or not, Nico’s Rosalina slipped on a banana peel at the last second, letting Jason win.
Jason cheered. While it didn’t earn him a spot on the notebooks leaderboard, considering his time still wasn’t all that good, Nico wrote down “Beat reigning champ, Nico Di Angelo” in the notebook with his pretty handwriting, only making the victory sweeter.
They both smiled and laughed together about the whole thing before realizing with sudden horror that they’d both missed dinner, and were starving.
“Guess we lost track of time,” Jason smiled. “I’m sure I have some snacks in my cabin somewhere.”
Nico held up a hand, stopping him. “I’ve got something better.”
Jason raised his eyebrows skeptically. “Better than trail mix?”
“Way better.”
Nico stuck his hand in the back of his contraband pile, digging around video games and other technology before his hands landed on what he was searching for.
He pulled out a box. Not just any box, a box of vanilla cake mix. Soon after, it was accompanied by a bottle of sprinkles and some questionable icing.
“Not even the Stolls know I have this,” Nico smiled, letting Jason gaze upon his treasure.
Jason looked at him quizzically. “How do you intend on cooking it?”
“I’ve got some arrangements with the harpies,” Nico smiled. “Kitchen’s all ours tonight.”
Nico pulled himself to his feet, watching Jason stand beside him.
“Just tonight?” Jason asked.
Nico shuffled his feet. “Yeah, I’ve been planning this for a while,” he said, slightly more bashful than usual. “Why do you think I got vanilla instead of an obviously better flavor?”
It was true, vanilla was Jason’s favorite. While he didn’t appreciate the slight roast from Nico, he did enjoy knowing that not only was he planning for his birthday, but he remembered his favorite flavor.
“Vanilla solos,” Jason corrected.
Nico rolled his eyes, stepping towards the door and slipping on some sandals. Socks and sandals, bold. “You just love being wrong.”
He silently led Jason through winding paths in the dark, secret pathways carved by hungry campers years before them. Why Nico knew of them was anyone’s guess, but Jason could appreciate it.
Once inside the kitchen, Nico flipped on a light, laid out their ingredients, and crossed his arms.
“I’ve never made a box cake before,” Nico said.
“Me neither,” Jason agreed, putting on his glasses to read the back of the box.
The two were oddly connected in that way. They were both so utterly separated from the teenage experience that they got to experience it themselves, together. Jason couldn’t ask for anything better.
Nico hunted down everything they needed and got to work, letting Jason hover over his shoulder.
“This was very nice of you, by the way,” Jason said, attempting very desperately not to blush all too hard as Nico pulled the cake from the oven.
Nico smiled. “It’s the least I could do. You’ve always been a good friend to me.”
Jason was ready to get on his knees and inform Aphrodite that love was, in fact, real. He held off for now, though, and settled on a soft smile.
He watched Nico do his best at icing the cake. He passed the sprinkles to Jason letting him pick his amount of sprinklage as he licked icing from his hands. Jason switched the top to the largest possible opening for the sprinkles, and proceeded to douse the thing.
They cut into it, both deciding it was walking a fine line between the most delicious and most disgusting thing they’d ever had.
Jason couldn’t tell if the cake was just exceptionally good, or if something about the lighting made Nico look quite like his last name wasn’t just a coincidence.
The golden lights above them bathed him far too beautifully. Nico was tanner now, happier than he had been on the Argo. He had vague tan lines that you could see if you squinted at where his bracelets usually laid. His hair curled up into wing shapes, making him look like a harpy himself.
Nico must’ve noticed him staring, as he sat down his plate and looked at Jason quizzically. “What?”
Jason shook his head, shaking himself from his thoughts. Maybe he was tired, maybe the cake was poisoned, but he just couldn’t manage to hold his tongue. “I…I think I’m in love with you?” he said, words falling out of his mouth with the grace of a strangled goose.
Nico sputtered. “I’m sorry?” he said, face getting redder.
Jason only now realized what he had just said, and was utterly mortified. “Sorry. I don’t know why I said that. Act like that didn’t-”
Nico interrupted him swiftly. “No, no. I didn’t mean to say that.” he said, leaning over the table to look at him. “I just mean…are you sure?”
Jason looked more confused than Nico now. He nodded slowly, watching Nico for signs of discomfort.
“Oh,” Nico said quietly. “Oh.”
Jason clicked his tongue. “It’s fine if you don’t feel the same, I totally get it-”
Nico slapped a hand over Jason’s mouth. “I have been flirting with you for the past month. I feel the same. You just surprised me.”
Jason’s face flushed red yet again. “Oh.”
“Yeah,” Nico said, shuffling his feet.
Just then, a harpy slammed open the door. “Times up, Di Angelo. We need the kitchen. Go back to your cabins before I tell Chiron.”
Nico groaned, but grabbed Jason quickly and pulled him out, shoving the cake into his arms gently but hard enough to get the point across.
“We’ll talk tomorrow. Happy birthday, Jason,” he said quickly. Even quicker, he pressed a kiss to Jason’s cheek, and promptly shadow traveled away before Jason could say anything.
The harpies practically dog piled Jason, who narrowly escaped punishment from Chiron by offering some cake. Turns out, harpies weren’t too hard to bribe.
That night, as he walked back to his cabin, grinning to himself, he passed the Hades cabin. Inside, he heard the roaring laughter of two Connor and Travis Stoll.
“You kissed Jason Grace?” the voice of Travis hounded.
“You let Jason Grace beat you in Mario Kart?” Connor demanded, followed by angry yelling from Nico.
Jason grinned to himself, and found his way back to his cabin. Maybe he didn’t get a lot of privacy at camp, and maybe he was ok with that. So long as it was Nico, his newly decided boyfriend as of the next day, it was fine by him.

Fire Burning Low
Luke Castellan x Reader
Masterlist - Join My Taglist!
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Summary: Luke and his SO are a few of the only campers left at camp now that summer's over; even Annabeth left to give her family another chance. It's weird for both of them, but at least they have each other.
Word Count: 1,343
Category: Angst, Fluff
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
I stared into the fire as I slowly rotated my marshmallow to the perfect level of toastiness. It was lower than I'd ever seen it, barely keeping me warm against the chilly, snowy weather that we'd decided to let into the camp for the holidays.
Just one of the many wonders of Camp Half-Blood was the magical campfire that usually roared up to thirty feet high during singalongs, feeding off the energy of everyone all here together. But now, in the middle of winter break with even fewer campers around than usual, the fire burned low with just me sitting around it.
At least, until it flared just slightly brighter, enough that I had to pull my marshmallow back and out of range. I heard someone's boots crunching in the snow a moment later, and when I turned I found my boyfriend, Luke Castellan, making his way over to join me.
He gave me a little smile as I met his eye and he sank down on the log next to me, shoulder to shoulder. Wordlessly, I offered him a marshamallow and another stick for toasting, which he took.
"Thanks," he said. "So... what are you doing out here? You're lucky the harpies haven't caught you."
I snorted. "Luke, we both know I've long since figured out how to avoid the curfew patrol harpies. Or did you actually forget our moonlight anniversary picnic this summer?"
Luke shot me a smile boardering on a smirk.
"You know I didn't forget anything. Still, that was a little more... covert than the fire pit in the middle of camp."
I just let out a long sigh, finally pulling my marshmallow back from the fire and beginning smore assembly. Luke leaned a little further into me, and I sighed again.
"I just needed a little hearth-style warmth. And if this is a stretch, I really wasn't going to get away with roasting marshmallows at the central hearth by the cabins."
Luke snorted. "You know, I would've liked to see you try that."
"Yeah, well, maybe tomorrow night."
Luke didn't say anything, and a comfortable silence settled between the two of us while he roasted his marshmallow and I ate my smore. The fire died down a little, reflecting our energy, but the color was at least a little lighter than when I'd been sitting out here earlier.
"So... you wanna talk about it? Whatever has you sitting out here in the middle of the night with the fire looking like it did?"
I let out a long sigh as Luke assembled his smore. He paused long enough to get another marshmallow on my stick and hand it to me, but I didn't put it over the fire.
"It's just... weird. At camp right now, with literally nobody around," I finally said. "I mean, I had to drag over this log we're sitting on from, like, ten feet back. Because the fire's never this low. Because the camp's never this empty."
"...This is at least a little bit about Annabeth, right?"
"Yes!" I flung my hands up, tossing my marshmallow stick down beside me and turning to face Luke. The left side of his face was lit up by the fire, and his expression was free of the judgement I'd been a little worried about. "I'm happy her family's finally trying to step up to the plate a little bit, especially because I know how much it means to her, but... it's been the three of us for every holiday season for so long. It's just... it's like a critical part of the family is missing. And the camp's emptier than it's ever been before, too. It just all feels a little dark and cold."
Without hesitating, Luke reached out and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. I leaned into him, taking a few deep breaths as the fire changed to a darker, more somber color before us, then shrank in size.
"I know. I miss her too," he said. "I... kind of can't believe she's choosing them over us."
I put a hand on his leg and gave it a gentle squeeze as I leaned further into his chest.
"I know. I feel bad about it, but... after everything she told us about them? It feels like they don't deserve a second chance."
"No shit they don't deserve a second chance."
The fire turned black, matching the dark tone in Luke's voice and the mood settling over both of us. I knew he'd come out here to cheer me up, but he'd already accomplished it, by being there for me and giving me someone to talk to. Now, it was my turn.
"It's been helping me to focus on how excited she was before she left. I mean, she obviously didn't have her hopes up that high, but she at least looked a little excited. I've never seen her talk about them with a single positive emotion before, but she carries her dad's ring around. Clearly, it's important to her."
"I just hope they don't let her down."
"Yeah. Me too."
Luke tightened his arm around me, and I gave his leg another squeeze. Neither of us said anything, opting to just hold each other instead, but the slight purple and green tinge to the fire was enough to expose both our fear and jealousy. Thankfully, there was no one else but us here to witness it.
"You know," Luke finally said after letting out a long sigh. "There has been one silver lining to this weird offseason."
"What's that?"
"I don't think the Hermes cabin has ever been this quiet."
I laughed, the fire changing colors and leaping a little to reflect it. I sat up so I could look Luke in the eyes, bringing my free hand up to rest on his bicep.
"Are you really telling me the Stoll brothers aren't the number one contributor to noise levels in that cabin?"
Luke just shrugged. "It's not so bad when it's just the two of them. Especially since they spend a lot of their time out of the cabin, setting up pranks for the limited number of other people here. By the way... don't go into your cabin through the front door tonight."
"What? I thought I was off limits! I thought I was their favorite since I helped them prank you!"
"Apparently that's all out the window now that they have such a small number of people to prank. You betrayed me for nothing."
I laughed, feeling a warm glow in my chest that hadn't really been there since Annabeth left.
"I don't know, I think having them target everyone but me all summer was pretty nice. And even if they use me as the target for the rest of the year... the look on your face was still worth it."
Luke rolled his eyes and pinched my arm, but I just laughed and leaned further into him. After a moment, he pulled my legs over his lap, then reached over and picked up my marshmallow stick. He reloaded his and mine, then stuck both over the fire as I curled into him.
"You know, even though it's a little weird having so few other people around... it's also nice to be able to spend so much time together," I mused. "I can't think of the last time we got to just relax together, the two of us, with no camp business or other campers interrupting us."
"I can. It was the anniversary picnic, when we had a harpy patrol barrier between us and anyone interrupting us."
I snorted, and Luke glanced at me with a grin. We still didn't have the numbers to get the fire anywhere near its usual height, but it sparked up notably higher than it had all night. If I had to pick one person to still be at camp with me, even if everyone else was gone, I'd pick Luke. Every time, every place. And even better, I was lucky enough to know that he felt the same.

“What the hell happened?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know.”
“I would like to know, Trav.”
“I’m not going to tell you because I feel like I will be further wounded.” Travis says certainly, clasping his hands in his lap, in the corner of your eye. He tilts his head when you put slight pressure on his jaw, angling the cut to the light.
“Further.” You snort, resisting the urge to roll your eyes. Instead, you use the antiseptic to dab along the jagged cut on the side of his head, from his eyebrow to his hairline. Your left hand cups his chin, tilting slightly again. “Anyway,” You say, distractedly. “This prank will be the talk of the town and I will no doubt hear about what happened at dinner.”
“What if I told you -” He begins but cuts off as he winces, hissing, but continues, “What if I told you it was Connor’s idea? Wait, nope – I can’t let him take this because this was spectacular.”
“Cheer up, Trav.” You use your left hand to tilt his face up to yours, kissing him gently. “You okay now?”
“I’m great now – thanks to you.”
