We were OTR early this morning. We almost made it a month and a half on our solar set up but the last few days at Plush's Bend freecamp along the Murray has given us a little more cloud coverage than sun, so we packed up and said our goodbyes to the river I've come to love so much. It was all rush, rush... the children had school starting at 8:30 for primary and 9:30 for high school and I started work at 12 Melbourne time. It felt more like a juggling act but we all did well especially since we didn't have to drive far. Yesterday, I booked a little caravan park for a few days to recharge the batteries and try book our car in to do our rear wheel bearings, and then after that, you never know, we might end up back along the Murray. Or maybe we'll give Lake Bonnie a try? If you follow me you know I love my 4wd touring and camping 🏕, the more remote the better. One a few previous Fraser trips with friends, Dave and Kylie always finished off Fraser Island camping ⛺ with a few nights at Kingfisher Bay Resort. 16 months on the road! I never imagined when we started this journey, where it would take us, but to be in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, is amazing! Some people go into full-time travel with the expectation of adventure and entertainment all the time. To truly understand such a lifestyle change, you have to understand the reality is rarely what you see on social media. It isn't adventure all the time. There are boring weeks. Boring towns. Break downs. In the last two weeks, we've had to fix our hot water system and completely replace water hoses under our caravan. And for the last month, we've had to wait around for a medical referral to Perth. We were on our way to a ghost town called Gwalia and then onto Karijini. But, that's what happens. Work gets in the way. Teens can be snottier about school work than Miss eight! Arguments, tantrums, six people in a caravan! But, we made it 16 months because we have never had any rose coloured glasses about life on the road. It can be hard but strip away the expectations. It can get hot. It can get cold. Giant flies are your new best friend. Red dirt stains everything including the kid's skin. Mozzies are like bite-size assassins. Some coastal places smell like off tuna cans despite the view. And some shops you come across sell you milk for so much you feel like jumping a farmers fence and milking a cow yourself! This life isn't going to be for everyone who does it, some of you will get six months in and decide, "We're done." And that's okay. But I think, a lot of you will do just fine if you go into it understanding the reality. We've travelled this country for a long time now and know the realities and still, I have zero regrets.
