Day 1: Pink / Blue / White
Reusing last year's prompt! These are the transgender flag colours and you can view this prompt however you want. Use it as a colour palette in your art; use them in relation to the characters' name(s), pronouns, or gender; or ETC.
Day 2: Childhood / Memories
Self-explanatory. Could be a character realising they were "obviously trans" since they were a child, remembering their first pride or first time coming out, or ETC.
Day 3: No Changes
This day is for all who do not go on horomones, get surgery, change their pronouns or name, change their presentation, and/or whatever else. You don't have to do that, specifically, of course. You could also view this as "no changes" in friend groups or family dynamics after coming out as trans, trying to explain to a younger family member that you are the same person with "no changes", or anything else. Get creative!
Day 4: Unconventionality
This day is for xenogenders, neopronouns, multiple or no names/pronouns, gender nonconformity, using "conflicting" labels, and/or any other "unconventional" ways to be trans in societal standards.
Day 5: Trans Love / T4T
This prompt could be viewed romantically with trans partner(s), platonically with trans friend(s), with trans family member(s), queerplatonic, and ETC.
Day 6: Family & Community
Self-explanatory. Could be blood-related family, adopted family, or chosen/found family.
Day 7: Free Day
This is a free day! Do whatever you want on this day. Reuse a prompt from earlier in the week, use one of the optional prompts, use prompts from last year, or don't use any prompts.
Optional prompts: first flag / euphoria / hopes and dreams

What Our Parents Didn't Teach Us
heyy so it's trans sides week, so I decided to write a lil something fun for that! still not used to posting fics on tumblr but the ao3 post is also available if you are interested!
without further ado, here's chapter 1! the prompt was pink / blue / white, and my interpretation was a little silly to fit the vision but it's ok
summary: Patton didn't think adopting his nephew was supposed to come with this many surprises.
But his nephew is Remus, and he's going to bring along just as many surprises as he can fit in the twenty pockets of his cargo pants, bringing a sort of enjoyable chaos that exasperates Roman and Patton to no end.
(Don't let anyone convince you that exasperation isn't fond, though. Remus' uncles are far too sappy to stay mad at him.)
The sunset shifted before Patton’s eyes, slipping from shades of bright orange to soft, pale pinks.
He didn’t normally find himself outside for the sunsets, but not for lack of trying. There was a public park just a five-minute walk from his house, with a big, open field typically occupied by at least three picnics and five or more dogs on any given day.
Unfortunately, Patton was not the average dog owner, nor a part of a young, spry couple that had ample time to plan picnic dates or walks in the park. He was well past middle age now, and with his full-time job, husband, two dogs, and permanent teenage houseguest keeping him occupied, there was not a ton of room for special activities.
That last one was the most recent addition to their slowly growing family. His husband’s nephew, Remus, had moved in just a few months earlier. The boy still attempted to insist that the arrangement was temporary, expressing a desire to support himself when he had the means to, not burdening his uncle and husband for any longer than was strictly necessary, or something along those lines.
And yet, every time Patton overheard said desire, his heart clenched a little. Remus was only fifteen, with a set of parents that didn’t even bother to call Roman after months of their child being gone for months.
He was fifteen, and emotionally prepared to take care of himself and get his own job and pay for his gender-affirming care by himself, and Patton couldn’t stand the feeling of him doing all that, by himself when he wasn’t even done with high school yet.
So, of course, he and Roman had spent the next few months making sure he was comfortable, safe, and reassured that he was absolutely not going anywhere until he was at least eighteen and truly prepared to support himself.
Remus had cried, one time Patton had enthusiastically repeated his feelings on the matter, and Patton cried along with him as they hugged each other. After that, he definitely wasn’t going anywhere.
It hadn’t been easy, not with Remus’ somewhat chaotic tendencies and his uncles’ lack of experience on the parenting front. But, the first few weeks turned into the first month, and before they knew it, winter break was over, Patton’s job was back in full swing, and they settled into a new routine.
And then, the arguments started.
Remus had his bad days, even with his uncles, and they understood that. When he snapped at them, they didn’t fall for the bait like his parents apparently used to. They talked it out instead, and typically, their nephew was able to calm down and apologize, simple enough.
For instance, when Remus had picked a fight about wanting to start back in school. After Roman pointed out they would need his parents to confirm the paperwork that would allow him to switch, he admitted the anger had been misplaced loneliness and accepted the hugs Patton offered him.
That kind of thing was easy enough to manage, and Remus was a very reasonable kid. He was usually willing to talk about whatever was bothering him with his uncles, and even occasionally offered the same to them.
It would have been far too easy if all the fights were that way.
Remus was… very enthusiastic. Passionate, that was a good word, passionate about his interests and beliefs. For the most part, that was a good thing, and it was an attribute, Patton found, that made him quite smart for his age.
It was also what led him to start sneaking out to spend time with some... less-than-stellar influences.
Don’t get them wrong, Remus was allowed to leave the house on his own. In fact, his uncles encouraged him to, considering he wasn’t getting the normal socializing time he would be in school, and the two of them could only make up for so much of that social need.
More often than not, they would offer to drive him to meet his new friends, whenever he asked to go out. Sometimes he would accept easily, sometimes he had someone picking him up, depending on the day.
His uncles were actually quite pleased about his new friends, and how he had fit in with them so easily despite just moving into the area and not attending the local school.
They were not as pleased about the graffiti, but that was something they could handle if it made Remus happy.
The destruction of public property was even less ideal, but it was technically a largely immoral corporate-based organization, so they supposed it wasn’t... the worst thing he could be doing. A little more begrudgingly, they let that slide, too.
…And then two weeks after that initial destruction- incident, Remus got arrested.
So, that was a pretty big problem.
Roman had given him most of the lecture on the way home from bailing him out, and Patton was a bit grateful he didn’t have to attempt to gather his thoughts on the matter. Mostly because he was so angry he could barely speak, but he didn’t want Remus to worry about that.
Except, maybe he should have been worrying about that because he got freaking arrested.
But, when the two of them got home, Remus had stormed up to his room, not quite slamming the door behind him, but closing it decisively enough that he knew now was not the time for another discussion.
“Did he tell you what happened?” Patton asked casually, settling on the couch next to his husband, who was currently slumped with his head in his hands.
“He didn’t, but the cops did,” Roman sighed. “The guy I talked to was involved with the backup call. I guess the group of them got caught up with a homophobe and it got heated. The one cop that patrols the area wasn’t enough to ‘get them to settle,’ so they called in more.”
“According to Remus and the others, the first cop was on the side of the guy getting his ass handed to him, which I’m not sure if I believe or not, but regardless, they all got arrested, only because one of Remus’ group punched that cop.”
“Was that-” Patton’s eyes widened in near horror before Roman was able to elaborate. “No, no, it was one of his- friends. Apparently, Remus didn’t actually throw any punches, but I know what scuffed-up knuckles look like, so the lying didn’t quite work out for him,” Roman scoffed.
Patton sighed quietly, settling his head against Roman’s shoulder. “Well, he’s alright. Obviously, we’ll have to figure out a- consequence of some kind, even if I suppose the anger was well-placed.”
Roman snorted. “I know, right? I would be having a genuinely hard time being mad at him if baling him out hadn’t cost actual money.”
The two of them had sat with that for a while, and even after Patton had inevitably stood on complaining knees to start dinner, it took quite a while for Remus to be ready to start talking.
And when he was it was… messy.
He was angry, rightfully so, and his uncles were angry, also for rightful reasons. There was an unfortunate amount of yelling, even more so when his uncles explained that he was still going to face consequences for what happened.
“But I didn’t fucking do anything wrong!” Remus snarled, pushing himself out of his chair to stand as he yelled.
“We understand that,” Patton began gently, “but if you and your friends got in enough trouble that you were arrested, something that will be on your record forever, even if it was just for the afternoon, Roman and I certainly aren’t going to congratulate you.”
Remus scoffed, folding his arms defensively. “Well, maybe the fucking pigs that did it were the ones in the wrong.”
“So, you’re saying you shouldn’t be arrested for punching an officer?”
“Not if the ‘officer’s’ a fucking bigot, no. And I didn’t even punch the cop! I punched the other guy, and he fucking deserved it.”
“Okay,” Patton continued, attempting to stop any useless bickering between Roman and Remus. The two of them had done enough of that in the car ride. “Explain to me then, since I wasn’t there: why did the other guy deserve it?”
“He was being a transphobic piece of shit, and just generally a piece of shit, actually,” Remus explained grumpily. “He was… he started flirting with Virgil. Cuz… I guess with the long hair and the tits, people still mistake him for a female.”
Patton winced at that. “I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t know that violence was the best option there, but… well, that’s not the worst thing you could punch someone about, I guess.”
Roman stared at him incredulously, but before he could voice his disagreement, Remus shook his head. “We didn’t hit first though! That’s a dumbass move. No, he hit Vee first.”
His uncles bristled in unison. “You… you didn’t tell me that in the car,” Roman stuttered.
“Would you have believed me in the car?”
Roman was forced to, honestly, shake his head. “I… I guess not.”
“Alrighty, then.” Patton stood, ushering Remus over, who accepted the hug he was offered soon after. “I suppose… as long as this isn’t a repeat incident, we can- hold off on the grounding business. I just… we would really like it if you were more careful, hun. I know bigotry is kind of impossible to avoid, but lately, it seems like you boys have just been looking for trouble.”
“I… yeah, okay. Thanks.” Despite the fact that Remus was now an inch taller than him, he felt so much smaller, curled up tightly in Patton’s arms.
He wasn’t sure when he’d become so soft for this boy, but he knew it wasn’t going away anytime soon. Not when he’d just daydreamed that entire conversation as he watched the sunset, Remus sleeping soundly in his lap.
It was much closer to dusk now. The sun was fading beyond the trees, where it would eventually taper out beyond the unseeable horizon. Stars were starting to peek out among the dark blue-ish sky, white pinpricks that managed to prick their light through the atmosphere from millions of miles away. A beautiful miracle, and all of a sudden Patton was thinking of his family again.
But, that was far too poetic to be sapping about so late at night, he decided.
“Enjoying yourself?” Patton blinked as he refocused on the park, and his husband, smiling at his question. From the way Roman smiled softly back, eyebrows furrowed just slightly, he could sense his curiosity, the lingering question of what he had been so focused on moments ago.
Instead of bothering with the long answer, Patton reached over with his free hand to squeeze Roman’s, the other busy combing through Remus' hair. He met Roman’s nervous smile with a reassuring one of his own.
“It’s absolutely perfect.”

Patton and Roman had the pleasure of meeting Virgil for the first time the day after Remus got arrested.
They had planned out a lazy weekend, since Patton didn't have work and Remus was not in the mood for any moderately strenuous activities, still reeling from the events yesterday afternoon.
Breakfast was closer to lunchtime as they all slept in fairly late, but by noon, they had gathered almost every blanket in the house onto a king-sized blow-up mattress in the living room. Their first movie choice (of the many they had planned) had just started playing when their cozy moment was harshly interrupted by a set of rapid knocks on the front door.
Roman let out a dramatic groan, slumping further into the pillows. Remus rolled his eyes at the antics, ambling his way out of of the mess of blankets. “Fine, exploit the youthful and his resilience in the face of manual labor. I don’t mind.”
Roman just laughed, waving his hand in the direction of the door as the frantic knocks continued.
“Where’s the fire?” Remus started, stopping in his tracks as he made eye contact with Virgil. “Oh, fuck. Hi, Vee.”
“Language,” Patton called, but his nephew’s shock was enough to get him to shuffle out of the blankets himself, despite the noises of betrayal Roman let out as he walked to the door.
One of Remus’ friends stood at the door, fidgeting anxiously. “Well, goodness, come on in. Remus, would you care to introduce us?”
His nephew reached for the other boy, and they interlaced their fingers as ‘Vee’ stepped into the house. “This is Virgil. He's… uh, the one I mentioned yesterday.”
Patton let out a little ‘ah’ of understanding. “It’s very nice to meet you, Virgil. And we’re glad to see you’re alright. I can imagine yesterday was as stressful for you as it was for us.”
“So, Remus isn’t in trouble?” The boy blurted, seemingly surprising himself with his own words.
“No,” Roman insisted. “I mean, we’re not thrilled that you boys were incarcerated, but we’re also not thrilled that you were harassed, so it evens out.
His teasing smile melted away when Virgil slumped in relief so harshly that his legs almost gave out in front of them.
“Jeez, Vee, it’s fine. Told ya I was fine.” Remus caught him effortlessly, scooping the smaller boy into a tight hug that he leaned into gratefully.
“I know,” Virgil huffed into his shirt. “I just… had to be sure. I didn’t… you should have to be punished for something that was my f-”
“It wasn’t your fault,” Remus insisted, perhaps a bit too loudly. “It wasn’t. He was being a dick to you, and that’s never your fault.”
“Langauge,” Patton insisted, much more softly this time, “but Remus is right. Neither of you should be in trouble for getting mixed up in something like that. Well, I don’t know how your parents feel about the arresting bit, but you’re certainly not in any trouble here.”
"I will be in trouble if they find out I’m here,” Virgil grumbled, peeking his head out from where it was buried in Remus’ shoulder. “They grounded me for a week for the whole- getting arrested thing… And then another week for hanging out with ‘those degenerate friends of yours.’”
Remus rolled his eyes. “Whatever. We’ll break ya out whenever your parents aren’t looking. Er-” Remus shot an exaggeratedly sneaky look in the direction of his uncles- “we will definitely not do that at all, and we will stick to communicating with you through text for the next two weeks, and only text and never in person.”
That managed to make Virgil chuckle. “That would work if I still had my phone.”
“You seriously don’t have a burner?
“You don’t have a burner,” Virgil pointed out.
“Oh, yeah. Huh. I guess I’m lame too. Oh well, I’ll just have to handwrite letters, then. I’ve always wanted to cosplay a 1940s housewife pining for her husband at war.”
Virgil snorted, swatting at his arm. “Stop it. If my parents see me getting handwritten letters, they’re gonna think I have a pining suitor or something dum and hetero.”
“If it’s a pining suitor they want, I do happen to swing both ways. And I am not picky about age,” Remus teased, shimmying his shoulders suggestively.
Virgil outright laughed, squishing his forehead against Remus’ chest. “Terrible, awful human. If you start flirting with my parents, I will never be allowed to haing out with you again.”
“Ugh, that’s the last thing you need, another reason for your parents to exploit so you never have any fun,” Remus grunted. He also happened to remember, as he propped his chin on Virgil’s head and made eye contact with his uncle, that they were not having a private conversation.
“Welp.” Roman dusted invisible dirt from his pajama pants as he stood. “As lovely as it was to meet one of the friends my nephew never stops talking about, I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble for coming all this way to check on Remus. Do you have a ride home?”
Virgil shook his head at the disguised offer. “Nah, it’s just over a five-minute walk, and my mom sleeps for like- an hour or so after lunch. But, uh- thanks. I’ll hopefully- er, definitely not see you on Monday, Rem.”
“Won’t see you then!” Remus grinned, walking him to the door and waving as he walked off. He stood in the open frame and watched him make his way down the street and out of sight, and it took long enough that his uncles started chuckling behind his back.
“Do not start.” Remus flopped into the middle of the mattress, bouncing Patton slightly on his end of the mattress.
“Oh don't mind us. We wouldn't wanna get in your way! Virgil is a really special friend, isn't he?" Remus groaned at the teasing. “I know you did not just quote Hearstopper as a way to tease me about a nonexistent crush, a crush that does not exist, and that you are making up on purpose so you have new material for once.”
Roman rolled his eyes as he joined them on the floor. “Oh honey, that was not a platonic stare. I know what a platonic love stare looks like, and that was so much more. Gay eyes to the max. You are whipped, dear nephew.”
Remus continued to groan, drawing out the noise to drown out his uncle’s laughter. “I hate it here. This sucks. You suck.”
“Not sure I believe that,” Patton continued brightly, ruffling his hair, “but I suppose we can let it go for now. Movie time?”
“Yes, please.” Patton giggled a bit but he did restart the movie, opening an arm for Remus to huddle up next to him.
It was… good to see Virgil, even with his currently depleted social battery. The lack of visible bruising was reassuring, and he hadn’t flinched at all when they hugged, so he couldn’t have been in too much pain. And, after being reassured that Remus was just as alright, he hoped Virgil’s mental state had improved over the last 24 hours.
Remus couldn’t say he was happy with the way the situation turned out, but it was better than what could have happened. Virgil could have gotten seriously hurt, or one of their other friends could have taken things even further than just punches. So, it was- fine, things were fine.
He wished he could protect Virgil more. Not… not yesterday, he did plenty of protecting yesterday. Just, in general. It was summer now, but he couldn’t go to school with him in the fall, not if he wanted to avoid talking to his parents. And speaking of parents, he couldn’t keep Virgil from facing the bullshit he dealt with at home. It was… frustrating, to say the very least.
He would do anything to keep his friend safe, and okay, he could sort of tell where the teasing earlier had come from.
As he continued to drift through his thoughts, missing almost the entirety of the movie (thankfully, he’d already seen it), he glanced over at his uncles to find Patton was fast asleep and Roman was in a similar state of absentmindedness that he was.
He nudged his shoulder, grimacing when it made his uncle flinch. “Hm?”
“Just wondering what you’re thinking about,” Remus admitted, reaching over to pause the ending credits.
“That obvious?” Roman huffed quietly. “It’s nothing major. Just… I’ve been thinking a lot about my childhood. And… well, my parents were quite similar to yours, so I suppose I know where my sister gets it from. I just…” Roman tapered off, not even able to laugh at his own joke.
“I wonder how different our lives would have been if we’d had friends like yours. Up until I was in college, I still dealt with a lot of internalized homophobia. I didn’t have any gay friends. In fact, I had many friends that bullied others for acting too gay, or dressing like the opposite gender, which either made you a lesbo or a twink, and they threw those words around like they meant nothing more than a normal insult.
“I didn’t partake in any of the bullying myself. I was insecure enough to not stop it, but I wasn’t shallow enough to intentionally bring someone else down, thankfully. But… it wasn’t because I thought being gay was okay. I didn’t know that, not for a long time... All the time, I wonder if- things could have been different, if there were other kids like you when I was young. I wonder if I could have- been better..."
Roman trailed off for a few moments. Remus, mostly struck by curiosity, gave him all the time he needed to collect his thoughts before he interrupted. “But, at the same time, I don’t think I would change things. Many of my lifelong friends, whether straight allies or gay like myself, even in the times when we weren’t sure of the idea, are the best friendships I could have ever asked for. I… I married Patton before he came out, and went from a happy straight relationship to an even happier gay relationship.”
“I guess… it doesn’t matter how it starts out, but how things end up. But, I am glad you have the friends that you do. Certainly seems better than any of the nonsense you had to deal with back with my sister.”
Remus nodded, taking in his uncle’s thoughts. “We did live in very different times. The olden days were not a place of acceptance, especially for other marginalized groups. You didn’t… if you could hide a part of you that was different, you did. Even if that was just a woman that liked to wear shorts, or a guy who was really into arts and crafts. Like, people were super judgy then. Or at least, that's my impression of it.
“And the thing is, there are still shitty people now! Obviously, they're still around, but… there’s a lot more active encouragement to not listen to them, a lot more people that fuck with the status quo. And like, the first part of my childhood was shit because I was one of those people, so maybe your straight era had something going for it. Except for being around Gram and Gramps, no offense but they kind of hardcore suck as people and as parents."
“No,” Roman laughed, “I understand. Hence why I haven’t visited them in years and they continue to bitch about it. They did not make my childhood easy, but I managed. Nine times out of ten they weren’t making my mental health actively worse, but… now they are, so here we are instead.”
Remus nodded in agreement, giving way to more comfortable silence. Roman started to mess around with the remote until he found he didn’t really want to put on another movie and risk waking his husband.
And then, he noticed the silence turn a little more sour with anticipation.
“You got something else you wanna add?” He prodded as he nudged Remus’ arm.
“I… kind of? It’s not quite related to the whole childhood thing. Just… something I’ve been thinking about- doing, soon.”
“Yeah? Well, you don’t need my permission to ask, you just might need my permission to do the thing, depending on what it is,” Roman reassured him.
“Uh, yeah. I… was thinking about- going back to, maybe try and convince Mom and Dad to sign off on me switching schools,” he blurted after his initial hesitation.
Roman let out a slow breath. “Okay. As- awesome as that idea is, truly, I would love for you to be able to go to school here, I… I don’t want you to put yourself through that. I… hm, I suppose if you want to do it yourself, I would be content to go with you for emotional support. But, honestly Rem, I would be more than happy to talk to them for you. If you want.”
Remus frowned as he processed the offer. “I… we could do it together? I’m not afraid to talk to them anymore, but I guess it would be nice to not go alone. I wouldn’t want you to do it for me, mostly from personal preference, but- if you are offering to come, that would be… nice.”
“Sounds good,” Roman decided, ignoring the awful implications of that ‘anymore.’ “I suppose we’ll have to let Patton know and plan so that you don’t have anything going on. It’s about two hours to drive up, so we could probably do it in a day, get some dinner out on the way back, and bring Patton back a to-go order.”
“Bold of you to assume Patton’s gonna come.”
“Bold of you to assume Patton’s not gonna come,” said Uncle chimed in, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “Dunno where we’re going, but if it’s important to you, I’ll take the whole day off if I have to.”
Remus stammered, and tried to come up with an excuse, that he didn’t have to cause a fuss and miss work just for him. But, the more Patton stared patiently, waiting for his rebuttal, the more he realized… he didn’t really want him- not to come, per se.
“That’s what I thought,” Patton hummed, rubbing a soothing hand up and down Remus’ arm. “Welp! Whenever you do decide when and where we’re going, just lemme know and I’ll make arrangements, ‘kay?”
Remus blinked, still processing what that conversation meant. He had to go see his parents, now that he’d committed to asking about it. But, at the very least, he wouldn’t be alone.
So, that was… something. Yeah. A good something, too.

What Our Parents Didn't Teach Us
chapter 3!! this is the heavy bit, I promise i have more lighthearted plans for the future, but for now, cw for homophobia, transphobia, blatant misgendering and deadnaming, + anxiety mentions and talk of divorce
the prompt for this was "no changes" which I... may have stretched a little but I like to think it still fits!
The last half hour of the drive to his parent’s house, Remus was a blur of motion in the backseat.
When Patton had noticed him picking at the red skin on his knuckles, he offered a fidget toy as a replacement, but other than that, he and his husband let him be. Remus had every reason to be stressed out, and there was no need to discuss the stimming when they’d had plenty of conversations about this day for the past week.
Everyone in the car was facing their own amount of anxiety about the day’s events. Roman’s sister, Remus’ mom, she was very well known for her unpredictability (and cruelty). She had kicked Remus out, but that had been months ago.
Roman was hopeful she was going to have a change of heart, but he was not optimistic. Mostly for Remus’ sake, but partially for his own. She was still his sister, after all. No matter how crazy or homophobic she was, a part of him was still the protective older brother, wanting to look out for her and make sure she was alright.
He tried his best to focus on literally anything else as they parked on the street in front of her house. Despite everyone’s initial anticipation, they sat in silence as the car ran, no one particularly eager to make the first move out of the safety of Roman’s car.
“We don’t have to go in until you’re ready, kiddo.” Patton unclipped his seatbelt and turned to check in on Remus. He still looked far too anxious for either of his uncles to be happy, but his determination won out eventually.
Hand in hand, the three of them walked to the door together, only breaking apart so Remus could be the one to knock on his parents’ door.
To Remus’ relief, it was not his mom that answered the door.
“Oh, buddy.” Remus let out an involuntary sniffle as his dad pushed through the doorway to wrap him in a hug. “Hey. Hi. Are you okay? I… I’m so- the apology isn’t even enough. I’m just… I’m so happy to see you.”
“Yeah,” Remus whispered, clinging back. “Um… sorry for blocking your number.”
Ron chuckled breathlessly, pulling away to cup Remus’ face in his hands. “I don’t blame you for that. I can’t deny I was worried, but… that was deserved. Uhm… would you like to come in? All of you?”
Remus took the lead, following his dad inside, with his uncles following in line behind him. After a few moments passed, and no one said anything, Remus flopped onto the couch, smiling as one of the family cats immediately made its home in his lap, purring away like nothing was wrong.
“Well, look who finally decided to show up.” Remus tensed, and found that almost instantly, he was met with two protective hands on his shoulders, one his dad’s and one his uncle Roman’s, who had both, apparently, taken a seat on either side of him. Patton stood nearby, and despite his lack of height, managed to make his stance very intimidating.
“Oh. And you've brought Roman. I suppose my daughter ran off to stay with you, then?”
“He didn’t run off, Candy. He called me to tell me he was no longer welcome in his own home, to which I drove two hours in the snow to pick him up so he didn’t freeze to death. But yes, he’s been staying with me,” Roman retorted.
Patton squeezed his hand tightly. Reassurance, mostly, and probably a warning not to get too angry just yet. Roman was… well, he’d try his best at that part.
“Of course, you of all people would play into her little- tomboy fantasy. Regardless, I am glad you brought her home. Thanks for stopping by. Oh, and maybe call Dad once in a while? He asks for you all the time.”
“First of all,” Roman huffed, squeezing Patton’s hand and Remus’ shoulder to keep his anger in check, “we’re not here to ‘drop Remus off.’ I didn’t even want to bring him here in the first place. And secondly, after the- endless amount of incorrigible things Dad has said to myself and my husband, I do not think I’m going to be doing that.”
His sister rolled her eyes. “Come on, you can’t seriously still be butthurt about that, it’s been years! And, I mean, he didn’t say anything that wasn’t true,” Candy glowered in Patton’s direction, staring him up and down as he spoke.
Patton shivered as a chill blew down his spine, and not the good kind.
“Look, I didn’t come here to let my family get verbally berated by quite possibly the most homophobic people in my life, and I’m not talking about your husband. We’re here because Remus is likely going to be staying with us permanently, which means he needs to switch schools.”
Candy looked briefly furious, before allowing her anger to settle into a deceptive calm. “Alright, fine. You can take Regina with you. She can come and live with you as long as she wants. Or, well, she can live with you as long as she wants, until the police come knocking with a missing report and an arrest on file for kidnapping. That’s fine with me.”
“Candy, please don’t-” Whatever reasoning Ron was trying to come up with was quickly shut down by a look sharp enough to kill. She directed her attention back to her brother and son, who both valiantly avoided eye contact.
“Oh, changed your mind so soon? I can’t imagine why. Well, I suppose I’m cooking for one more tonight. Three more, if your uncles decide to stay the afternoon? Come Regina, you can help me crack the eggs.”
“You know what?” Remus pushed himself up to stand, meeting her eyes before she could turn away. “I didn’t change my mind. I know exactly what I want, and what I’m going to do. I want to live with my uncles, for however long they’ll have me. I want to personally obliterate any person left still calling me that- stupid fucking name. It’s not even a cool name! It means ‘queen,’ which is one of the most boring definitions, there are like- fifty different names that mean royalty!
“Every time someone calls me that, it makes me want to rip all my skin off and pluck my eyeballs out of their sockets so I’d never have to look at myself again. I don’t know what you aim to accomplish by making my existence so unbearable that I’ve thought about not living anymore so I wouldn’t have to deal with it, but it’s not getting you ‘your daughter back,’ that’s for damn sure.
“And you know what? Maybe my decision will change! And that’s okay too! Maybe one day I’ll decide that the name I picked is stupid, which I won’t because the original Remus was a badass and died in such a cool way, and also it kinda matches Uncle Roman’s which makes it even cooler, but even then, it doesn’t matter! Even if I do go back to the way I was before, the fact that you never allowed that transition to be an option for me, actively putting me in danger of myself because you didn’t educate me on something that was so, so important for years, means that I will never go back to having the relationship I did with you when I was little.
“So you can go around and say that you disowned me, or that You made the wise decision to never allow me back in the house, but in the end, it’s me that’s cutting you off. It’s me that’s ending the relationship. Because even if Regina comes back, she’ll never come back to you. Cool? Cool. Dad, can you sign this for me?”
Remus’ mom gaped, flapping her mouth like a comically deformed fish as Ron gracefully accepted the pen and signed off where his son pointed.
Roman stood right next to him, with his own husband, the both of them shining with enough pride to light up the entire house.
When the legal business was over, if you could even call it that, Remus’ dad reached out for another hug, which was gratefully accepted, and they both eagerly promised to call each other, while easily ignoring his mother’s furious gaze.
She opened her mouth to say something else, probably senseless screaming, but Roman cut her off. “Candy, as much as I love you, I don’t think any of us are actively going to listen to what you have to say. So unless it’s an apology or a kinder invitation for free food, I think we’re gonna head out. Ron, it was nice to see you, as always.”
Candy did a little bit more useless flapping, before letting out a furious screech and stomping up the stairs and slamming what they assumed was her bedroom door. Remus let out an audible sigh, leaning into his uncle Roman’s side.
“That was… not really what I pictured, but okay.” Roman chuckled, ruffling his hair. “Regardless of intention, you did good, kid. You feeling alright?”
Remus took a moment to process the question before nodding. “I mean, obviously that sucked ass, but she didn’t scream at me and I said what I needed to say. All of the other emotional shit I’ll be able to deal with eventually.”
“Language,” Patton chided gently.
“English.” Remus and his dad responded in unison, chuckling at each other’s antics until Remus’ smile suddenly dropped.
“Hey, why the long face?” His dad asked, having to crouch down a bit to meet his eyes.
“I… I just realized I can’t just- take you with me. And that really sucks, and it’s very extra not fair that I have to leave but you have to stay here with her,” Remus huffed.
“Well,” his dad started, “I lived with your mother for a long time before we even had you. I think I can handle it if she’s in a bad mood. If it makes you feel better, I can call when you guys get back?”
“I guess,” Remus grumbled into his shoulder as they embraced again. “But, you gotta promise that if she starts fucking with you too that you won’t- put up with it like I did.”
Remus’ dad hesitated. “Well, that depends on how you define ‘messing with me,’ because it might be a bit late for that, bud.”
Patton’s lips twisted in a concerned frown, but before he could even open his mouth to offer what he intended to be a kind suggestion, Ron raised a hand in protest.
“I… believe I know what you’re going to suggest. And, I won’t lie and say I haven’t thought about… leaving, in the past. It… well, Candy and I have been through a lot together, but when it comes down to choosing between her and my son… I don’t know that I could make that decision on a whim. Not today, at any rate.”
“Well, you’re not gonna lose me if you stay here,” Remus decided, “so you’re not choosing between anything. And like… I get it, I know you loved her way before any of the crazy bitch stuff happened, but- why not? What’s… what’s really stopping you?”
Ron sighed. “Well, mostly the emotional attachment, I will admit. Probably shouldn’t be talking to my kid about this, but- divorce is hard. I don’t… I don’t want that to be my first choice without giving her… well, she’s had time to redeem herself, but I think I need to talk with her first. About a lot of things, not just today. Things that… happened between just us.
“But! That’s a horribly depressing thought for another time. Would you boys still like to have dinner together? I can drive ya to the best pizza place in existence.”
“Oh my god, we have to go. I haven’t had Tasta Pizza since November and I am actively losing my life force without it,” Remus replied seriously, his mood immediately boosted by the offer. “You guys down?”
His uncles briefly made eye contact, but it wasn’t even really a question. “As long as I can drive instead, I suppose that can be arranged.”
Remus cheered, nearly dragging his dad out the door, already chattering excitedly about their trip, bemoaning the loss of the supposed best pizza in existence.
Seeing his dad smile, truly smile, as they fought over which slices were bigger was just enough to release the tightness in Remus’ chest, keeping his spirits up even as they drove home without him.

What about something in the universe of The Tutor? I know, I know, Logan's transition was really all subtext but come on… The Tutor really was a complete story. I fear it would cheapen the power of the original to tack on a continuation. Oh! Oh! I know, Lo Lo! Two words. Camp. Croft. Meus, we do not yet know what the prompts will be. That's not a 'no,' Lo Lo… You are correct. That is not a 'no.'
