i've been doing ehhhh lately so I've been watching comedy sets. i think it's very interesting the amount of men, specifically cis men, who loveeee to harp on about how idiotic men are and thus can't be depended on, how women are just set up to be disappointed because men can't do better, they're dumb! they cannot see the sexism in these jokes, in going on about how girls grow up faster but also how they (men) put so little effort into most parts of their relationships with women...it's a joke but it's also painfully true isn't it? we're supposed to laugh, right? men are dumb, right? they can't do better, right?

like, they think they're so much better than the guys who get on stage just to shit on their wives and mothers and sisters but its so condescending and sexist i hate it. like i don't care if you're dumb, you better get off that stage joking abt that shit and DO. BETTER.

i wanna preface this by saying i dont really care if you use tme/tma. i think arguing abt the language and terminology we use is very dumb. i think the same abt transandrophobia discourse and i dont see why its not also true of tme/tma

the problem i have with them as terms within a trans/feminist framework is largely HOW people use them and not with the terms themselves. in a social sphere where 'privilege' is treated as a personal identifier, it makes total sense that some people would correlate Being a thing with being treated Like that thing. if you identify as a man, this means you are treated as a man, and thus have access to male privilege. myself, personally, i dont mind calling myself tme in specific discussions, bc i find that it's true that transmisogyny does not generally apply to me.

but the trans man who was mistaken for a trans woman and assaulted? the cis 24/7 drag queen whose existence became illegal in her state?

they are 'tme' and yet their lives remain touched and dictated by transmisogyny, both interpersonal and systemic. privilege is not something that is an aspect of how you IDENTIFY, it is how you are treated by the world at large based on others' perception of you. using tme/tma like they are interchangeable with non-transfem/transfem is a mistake and they more often hinder discussion on transphobia in my experience, where people who arent "affected" are told they are derailing when they add to the conversation

i feel that this fandom's hatred for feminine presenting sirius and most especially sirius as a transfem or as a trans girl really says a lot about the kind of people you are. you're so quick to shit on jkr, yet you're pushing the exact same ideology and agenda that she is. the thing is, you're allowed to dislike certain headcanons. you're allowed to not like certain headcanons. i headcanon sirius as neither a fem-presenting individual or a trans girl. however, people are allowed to headcanon whatever they want and this fandom has always consisted of headcanons, because there is little canon about the era, and there will always be headcanons that one person might agree with, one person might headcanon it themselves, and another person might dislike it. you're allowed to dislike certain characters and certain headcanons, while we're at it; however, not liking it for the mere fact that the character is headcanoned as trans is transphobic. you can not see it. that's perfectly reasonable. for a fandom that claims to be "open-minded" and all in for diversity, you're really not supporting this whole ideology that this fandom claims so loudly to have. and also, your arguments against the headcannoning of sirius as transfem are shit. "it's erasing the mlm rep!!" the mlm rep that we, quite literally, do not have? the mlm rep that takes the big majority of the fandom? "it's fetishizing!!!" there have always been feminine queer men. they have always existed. and there always will be feminine queer men that will exist in queer spaces. their existence will continue and just because your, my, our, their experience as a queer person/queer people does not match with theirs/ours does not make them a fetish and it does not make any of us less valid.

Like I don't Post about drama but vis a vis predestro's Tumblr ban, like. I don't necessarily think it's a good thing that we on the Internet have become so desensitized to threats of violence that we use them as jokes, but like.... That's been Tumblr culture for, what, a decade now? At least four years. Almost definitely longer.

And like. I've seen so much worse. Folks admitting to sending asks telling others to kill themselves!! Folks outright wishing x/y person killed themselves!!! Folks harassing trans folks (esp. trans women!)

I totally get that part of it is "this person had their rule breaking reported en masse so something happened" but shouldn't the severity of the response have more to do with the severity of the offense, rather than how many people reported that user?

Like. The fact that we have to do mass reports to get anything to happen to anyone is ridiculous.

And, the fact that INCORRECT mass reports aren't punished more is also ridiculous.

There's also no report function for discriminatory content, or for seeing users harass each other. So... If you're not the one being harassed, your report does... Nothing??

Unless you, what scroll through someone's blog looking for things you could report as threatening violence??

There's obviously something fucky with their reporting system- either the way that reports are handled, or the way the severity of the reports are being judged.

Cause right now, it looks like they got a flood of reports from TERFs, photomatt saw a post about him, and went "well, fuck it, get her out of here" without looking at the context of HER BEING HARASSED FOR AGES. And that the post in question- the only one I saw shared!- was almost certainly a vent post for Said Situation that was...

Like. Look. Do I think maybe at some point, on the "way too comfortable with violence on people I see as Wrong in some way" webbed site, a popular user said something that could actually be construed as a threat, and due to rampant transmisogyny got, got her shit reported?

I don't follow her blog too closely, I know she does a lot of hyperbolic stuff. (as is Done on this Web site, again... I've almost certainly rb'd things just as bad)

Not answering the first ask this person sent bc it was even more goofy but two very easy things here. The post this is referencing was not about harassment, it was talking about being held to high standards of masculinity to be seen as a man even in the queer community. And then even that has half of my response dedicated to how trans women experience that in complex ways for their femininity. So yeah I’m totally forgetting about trans women.

Just saw a transmasc person talking about how they “peaked” (I.e. became a radfem/TERF) because no one would let them talk about the oppression they faced as a “biological female”...Some of y’all are so lost, I swear. 

ALL trans people should be able to talk about the misogyny they face, period and it’s bullshit when people try to brush your experiences aside. It’s wrong and bigoted. But you do not become a goddamn fascist because of that. Becoming a fascist is still your own fucking choice and a disgusting one at that, especially when you’re propping it up as a good thing while trying to blame other trans people for you making the choice to work against all of our rights.

Niche Tumblr drama but that woman whose defending Homestuck with her life for some reason went from "it aged well bc it's suppose to be about edgey teens" to "I'm hosting a Racism in Homestuck Workshop (which is a book club that happened to talk about racism when it came up apparently even tho she said it was a dedicated workshop but whatever) to "People make up racism allegations about trans people all the time" like????

Also said she wasn't against people not liking Homestuck or finding it racist, but against people wishing death on Hussie and the majority trans fanbase but her og screenshot about it and calling others transphobic was about a queer media poll and people saying they'd shoot someone or themselves if Homestuck won. Not even liking Homestuck, there was Homestuck fans who voted against it too. But they all were clearly not literal and I know atleast one was made by a trans woman. It's kinda ironic to then have the worst faith interpretation of a trans woman after all those stances.
