When I saw an ad for "Mind Mapping today - Immortality tomorrow" I was like, well, what the fuck this is about? Sounds like a scam, but what is this scam about? And then I clicked to their website, and look. It looked nice, professional. Convincing. Innovative. I was like, why nobody is talking about it? This is huge! You can, like, upload your brain - all your memories, all your personality, - to their server. Then, should something happen to you, your mind gets activated and you can continue your life in virtual universe. In reality, you will be dead, but you still will be online. Your relatives can contact you, you can chat with your friends or even make video calls through AI powered 3D generated animation (if you subscribe to Premium+ package). You can read or watch movies you never had time to, keep up with the news. Finally finish your novel you started in high school. Visit virtual museums, play games. And, who knows - with cybernetic industry developing as it is, maybe becoming a cyborg is not out of question, after ten years or so. If you can afford it.

Except for people like me, who use Basic plan. Turns out, that before we get to all the blessed idle posthumous life - basically a retirement, nothing that I could expect to enjoy irl - we can be used by the Mind Mapping, LTD, for Behavioural Modeling and AI Research. And it sounds benign, right, like filling out some kind of questionnaire, or allowing websites to save cookies or something.

Except what Mind Mapping meant by that, is their biggest investor is one of monopolists of Entertainment and Telecommunication & Internet corporation field. And they love money very much but don't like to spend money when they don't have to. So their recent project, yet another reboot of that comics franchise universe, powered by AI, is starting soon. The visual side is done by AI, like the video thing for rich ghosts in the machine. As for the plot... It's a mashup of all their past properties related to that franchise. Supposed to be, AI takes the best hits out of almost 130 years of history, except there were constant bugs and glitches. More than once, this universe ended up in Apocalypse before the things started to be interesting.

So they decided to rebrand. Put poor ghosts like me in a story and let us figure out how to make it satisfying for the fans. Then, as we reach the happy ending, they will cut a movie or a series out of our experience, and sell it to the fans.

And we can't leave this world without playing till the end. And if we die, it's game over for us, breach of contract. We are going to be deleted.

Me, personally, was put into a villainous cannon fodder, who has had his own series several times, but, except for a very enthusiastic group of followers, isn't liked by the mainstream. (No wonder, it's because of constant character assassination and OOC and that's why I don't like this comics franchise - I loved it too much before finally giving up) And my mission was to white wash all his evil deeds, redeem him, and turn him to the road of success, face slapping, and, preferably, group petting.

This character is Jason Todd. And I went online just as the first blow of crowbar grazed my cheek. Yeah, that's right: he was just about to be killed by the Joker. Which means, I was about to be killed by the Joker, now.

'transmigrator' tim drake who's gotten used to suddenly waking up in an alternate dimension similar to his but its just AO3 batman fics he keeps on getting transported to, so now he tries to figure out the plot before looking at the tags as a distraction while trying to find his way back to his original dimension.

Now when he comes back to his original universe he just has all this weird knowledge and habits that he has after being in all those universes, and some of them he doesnt even notice like:

He sleeps literally anywhere in the Manor, kissing Kon on the cheek, holding Duke's hand randomly, being cuddly with Bart and Cassie, patting Jason in the back, ruffling Damians head or even hugging Dick first. And he sometimes just hugs Bruce just because, maybe Bruce is gonna be shocked for the first few times then he gets used to it.

And everyone in the batfam and his friends gets used to Tim being subtly open to affection and reciprocates it back to him, while also being used to him referencing some weird pop culture memes and inside jokes they don't get except for him.

TLDR: Tim gets character development by reading fanfiction.

Transmigration Batfam AU

Jason Thompskin has no tolerate to trashy novels but there is this one that catches his attention.

With the cliche title "Rise of The Third Son", this novel details the life and rise of said third son Tim Drake, an orphan son of baron that got adopted by the Emperor of the story.

Among the obstacles young Tim has to face, one of them includes his second oldest adopted brother, the former street rat Jason Todd.

He is the type to bite the hand that feeds him. Jealous with Tim, who has everything from the support of other nobles, better relationship with the oldest (and most beloved in the family) brother Dick, higher intelligence, etc. Jason Todd set out to ruin Tim's life, only to end up killed in an explosion. No one, not even the emperor or even the commoner people, mourns him.

A third rate extra villain, you may say.

The story concludes with Tim succeed Bruce as the emperor, gaining love of everyone around and rules the kingdom with wisdom and kindness.

Which should be the end. Unlucky for Jason Thompskin however, truck-kun delivered him to this story, and of course he has to transmigrated as Jason Todd of all people!

Luckily, however, he came in right when the emperor just took him in the castle.

To escape his death flag, the now Jason Todd sets out to change his ending. By being kind and helpful and when Tim comes, he's gonna hightail out of here.

He is a modern young man after all. Politics is not his things.

In a year, he manages to charm his new family and even the commoner folks, gaining the nickname "Kind Young Master". hen Tim's arrives, well. He is supposed to run but he ends up staying a few more years to help Tim from dealing with shady enemies.

By the time Damian the blood son comes, the story has changed completely. Yet, somewhere deep in Jason's core still fears. Scared of losing everyone's love.

Perhaps something happens that makes him think the story is trying to go back to its original course. Jason decided to arrange an explosion (the circle comes full) and fakes his death. Everyone is in shock and mourns him.

Jason runs away to another continent and after a year, things seem well. He has his own cottage, small bookshelf, a dog and a garden.

But fate just loves to screw with him. One of the Wayne's family association (maybe Dick's friend) regconizes Jason.

Good things:

An intriguing backstory and complex motivations that lead to fascinating plots when done right

Top tier outfits no matter the artist, tbh. Leather jacket (traditional) + black gloves + guns + red helmet ( nonfacial)? Superb. Leather jacket (one with the hood) + sword on back + lower-face mask & goggles + what appears to be garrote? Wonderful. Leather jacket (with the logo on it) + red helmet ( with facial features and disturbingly expressive)? Badass. The goddamn pill head? We all have our off days.

You know that feeling?

That feeling, where you just can't go on. Your heart bursts from sadness, it seems like - or it really does. Your left arm is numb, and there's uncomfortable pressure mounting inside. You kinda feel like you need to call an ambulance but your phone is two feet away and when you get up, you also fall down. Somehow, it doesn't happen all at once though. It's just too hot all of sudden and there are dark bulbs in your vision like your universe is being eaten by the sheer injustice of it all: You're fourteen. You're pretty sure you're dying.

It wasn't supposed to go like this.

Too bad the God, Fate, or maybe Universe, has other ideas.

It literally strikes your head with a metal rod.

The feeling as though you are being sucked into a very small vacuum disappears. Everything disappears, actually, except for the feeling as though your head is pried open and a dirty floor under your cheek, and is that blood? Oh fuck, is that a tooth?!

You gasp for air, and your tongue touches the roof of your mouth, slides to the teeth. Yeah, that’s a tooth alright. What’s happening? Did you die? It doesn’t look like hell but certainly feels like.

But no. A pair of shoes come into your arc of vision. And that thing you were hit with.

“What hurts more? Backhand? Or… forehand?”

And all thoughts about metaphysics are just blown away from your mind in the most literal sense. You lose consciousness. You come to it because the bastard who hit you takes your face in his hands, making you look up at him.

“You’re being awfully quiet, boy, it’s boring. Let me tell you, you don’t want me bored. Me bored means leaving you to die here. You want to play for time, right? On the chance that he actually cares, of course. Maybe he will come back for you. Maybe. So beg me…”

And you recognize this face.

Not in any real way, because there’s more face paint than a pantomime actor would use. But because the green hair, the, the Irish smile, the white face - this fucker is cosplaying Joker!

“Beg me, and maybe I will let you live a little longer.”

When he squeezes your jaw even harder, well that’s what makes you react.

You want to say something cool and cutting, but you can’t actually form all the genuinely sick burns into proper words, so what follows after is messy and a little undignified. Whatever. The tone of speech is more important than the contents. You feel like he got the point.

And all you got in return is a laugh and hands squeezing your throat.

Silver lining: when you regain consciousness again, you don’t see the psycho around. Bad news: you actually see where you are, and you never were here before, and you haven’t seen that woman that is crying and begging you to wake up, to move, to untie her, goddamnit. At the same time, the scene around you reeks of familiarity.

You wouldn’t be a Jason Todd fan if you haven’t recognized a warehouse in Ethiopia.

You laugh, hysterically, and drag your body to Sheila fucking Haywood. You actually hate her much more than most Gotham villains, and that’s saying something. But you can’t leave her there, tied to a pole in the middle of the warehouse.

You can’t get up, and slithering on the floor is not that fast with hands tied behind you either. What did Jason do in that situation? Oh, yes. You wriggle a little - a lot, okay, half of your blood is on the floor and you never were an extremely flexible person even if the body you’re in now is.

You manage to get your hands in front of you. The next part of your journey is faster. You get to Sheila, get her out of the ropes, and together you try to reach the door.

And ironically, you know it’s futile. And yet, you try anyway.

You wake up in the coffin. Oh for fuck’s sake!

On the plus side, you remember everything. It could mean nothing, or it could mean that the car accident Jason got into after crawling out of his grave was the reason for his catatonic state, not him coming back wrong. You vow to stay away from the main road and vehicles - on a premise you can manage to free yourself before the oxygen loss kicks in.

It should be possible, right? You’re in the same body, the muscles should be able to punch as hard. But there’s not a lot of space for punching, and it slows you down and you know the power behind each hit is not enough.

You feel the needles in your chest, in your whole body. You feel that you’re dangerously slow. You feel sleepy.

You die again.

You wake up.

You die.

You wake up. You die. You wake up, you die. There’s some punching the roof of your grave in between but it’s far from efficient. It’s probably a few days. Maybe a few hours.

Who the fuck knows.

You only know you’re the most miserable fourteen years old in the existence.

(well, at least Jason was sixteen; fifteen? you’re not sure; you’re not sure that his writers are sure)

Oh God, writers! You transmigrated! That shit is supposed to happen in Chinese novels only! This is an American comic book! (or a movie)

This is too unscientific!

The good news is: this experience has cleared your pores and cured your depression in the literal sense. When you finally reach the fresh air of Gotham cemetery, you feel like you never want to die anymore.

Bad news: it’s a fictional city in a fictional universe, and the maps that existed in your world are not that detailed, actually. So you don’t know where you are, or where to go. You break into the administrative-looking building and thankfully, find the landline. You don’t know who to call.

That ends up mattering shit fuck: when you broke the window, local precinct got the signal.

You’re taken in.
