in the summertime, he likes sitting outside in the rain(if it’s light enough, that is) because he finds it really refreshing (it scares the heck out of everyone who cares about him because they’re worried he’ll get sick (this drives him a little bit crazy))

he loves hugs, like, adores them. giving, receiving, just seeing people happy when they get hugs, the warm and fuzzy feeling of them

Davey taught him about flower language(i hc that Davey likes flower language) and now he loves leaving little flowers with hidden meanings around for his friends

he just generally likes getting little gifts for his friends (even if some of them are just small fragments of metal he found on the ground or neat rocks)

A little about myself: I’m a 21 y/o Transmasc writer. I only write on Discord. I’m CST timezone, but I work the night shift currently, so replies out of rp can be spotty. A little about my character: A 4’10” - 5” ft tall street fighter who’s in a gang. Sammy has the body of a rabbit but the heart of a wolf. He’s an insolent, stubborn, younger guy who may be petite but he packs a hard punch and can handle his own to a certain point. His unwavering loyalty and obedience only lies within his gang leader. He might be his pet, but he is in no way tamed. He’s all fire and rage, he absolutely refuses to back down or bite his tongue. He’d find a way to give lip even if his tongue was cut out. All around his familial relationships are shit to say the least. He doesn’t trust easily, he’s paranoid, cold hearted on the outside, and violent. Like a mad dog he’ll snap without warning, his fangs are always bared, and his lips are always curled in a snarl. He’s hooked on cigarettes and booze, and he can’t last without his mood stabilizers. He works at an underground fight club and can often be seen sporting bars, even if he isn’t of age for a plot. The club is a front for the gang. I do often prefer to write Sam in a violent dystopian like setting where crime is rampant, bodies are in the streets, the city’s in chaos, etc. Think the purge almost. Otherwise, he’s just got a rough life on the streets in a gang. ( His age can vary for the plot btw! 🍪 is fine with me. I primarily write him as 20 default, and 25 the oldest though. )

In her DnD campaign, she has 5!

Percival - 6'2" Human (1/4th elf), homebrew swordsman, and was initially an antagonist in the main story! He and Amaryllis had an enemies to friends to lovers slow burn. He has a lot of trust issues for very valid reasons and focused most of his life on revenge until recently. Amaryllis was the first person he ever trusted and his only regret in life was betraying her for revenge (he's since made up for this by sacrificing his hand to save her life). He's also agender!

Yulani - a 5'6" (ex-human) Elan transmasc NB fighter, and he's full of anxiety. He worked as an archivist for his organization for like 300 years just to get out of social interaction lol Amaryllis thought he was adorable and reminded her of a rabbit, and Yulani was initially scared of her until they got to know each other

Eclipse - a 5'7" high elf Blightmaid (the evil version of Brightmaid, which is what Amaryllis is- he was blessed in the womb by Nightmare, and she was blessed by a Unicorn) sorcerer, and is very horny for sex and violence. He's pretty flamboyant and flirty and loves seeing Amaryllis fighting and killing enemies in battle. He also likes flirting with Yulani. He's genderfluid!

Chabat - 6'2" Human knight of the Sand, I think he's some kinda fighter? He's a little awkward and stoic and he initially met Amaryllis when he was assigned to guard her in a city full of people who hated all non-humans. She had a crush on him first, but he reciprocated after meeting her in a context outside of being her guard. He got really pissed at all the fey racism she had to experience, and generally enjoys defending the weak

Brargridoth - he's a Prince of the Hells! His father is the King. Brargridoth is a mix of celestial, fiend, and devil due to his weird birth, and Amaryllis earned the right to date him after fighting through the ranks of his soldiers until she fought him and impressed him with her strength. Brargridoth goes by he/him but his concept of gender is extremely alien bc he's from the hells. He's also 12ft

Lore dump for Ariel Brown!

His mom is a Jewish American nurse who works for the army, and his dad is Apollo. Ariel is transmasc and uses he/him pronouns, along with being asexual and gay. He has the standard ADHD and dyslexia of demigods, as well as autism and a dysautonomic disorder. Ariel tries his best to be helpful and feels horrible when he can't be for whatever reason. He loves fiercely and though he's not a great fighter he's very protective. Ariel's main weapon is a cane sword that has plot relevance. His special interest is in the Disney Renaissance.

Ariel is Nico's love interest (he was half created out of spite ngl) and has found siblinghood with Lacy, Meg, and Rachel. He's also best friends with Malcolm and Clovis! Here's him in Lemon Maker

Ariel arrived at Camp Half-Blood just a little bit after Nico, by a matter of hours. They near instantly became best friends while in the Hermes cabin

Ariel didn't stay in the Hermes cabin long and was claimed in the infirmary after a training accident. Ariel loves his siblings very much and wishes he could do everything for them

Ariel was devastated when Nico ran away. He spent every break from school at camp, and Malcolm helped with his worry quite a bit, which led to Ariel developing a crush on him between Labyrinth and the Last Olympian that doesn't go anywhere

When Nico gets captured by the giants , Ariel has a lot of dreams about it, and got a prophecy to save Nico. He was by Nico's side for most of House of Hades, including the Cupid scene, though Ariel didn't hear what Nico had to say due to passing out after trying to attack Cupid. I think this is the moment Nico realizes he likes Ariel

Ariel goes with Nico, Reyna, and Hedge in Blood of Olympus. After the battle with Gaea, Ariel has to spend almost all his time in the infirmary, but Nico often comes to visit often, which helps Ariel to realize his feelings

The infirmary on the Argo was Ariel's de facto room since he specializes in healing. He's a good archer and plays several stringed instruments, but with his disability and mom's job he's always lent towards the healing aspects of his father's powers

Ariel is scared to tell Nico how he feels because all of Apollo's lovers seem to turn into plants and Nico's surrounded by Demeter's children (Persephone, Lex, and I imagine he's friendly with the rest too). Lacy manages to convince Ariel to tell Nico, though, which he does at the beginning of ToA

Speaking of ToA, they're the Trials of Ariel Brown now. Nico lives with the Jacksons, and Ariel finds Meg McCaffrey on his way to see Nico and takes her back to camp, where Apollo, still a god, is visting Rachel. Ariel yells at him a bit for being a bad dad, so he has Ariel go save the oracles. He also goes to the Underworld along with Nico and Will in TSaTS

Nico and Ariel call each other moth and butterfly respectively, and Ariel learns Italian to talk to Nico when he's stressed

Finally back to making progress on the Literary Tarot Deck Challenge.

For anyone new to my tumblr, the Brink Literacy Project created a tarot deck with cards based on works of classic literature. Each card was selected by a contemporary author or comics/graphic novel illustrator who also helped write the guide to interpreting that card.

The challenge I’ve set for myself is to read each classic work and one thing by every author/illustrator. Including the fan-picked alternative cards, that comes out to 162 books.

I just finished The Witch King by H. E. Edgmon. It’s a queer YA urban fantasy novel about a trans witch named Wyatt who is pulled back into the magical world he tried to escape. As a child, he was betrothed to the crown prince of the Fae who wants the marriage to go forward for the sake of the kingdom and his own heart.

The book deals with some pretty heavy content and Edgmon who is himself transmasc admits in the forward that it’s very much a vehicle for processing his trauma. But it’s also a love letter to queer identities in every combination.

The book’s cast also includes a bisexual ace Indigenous teen who identifies with womanhood and matriarchy but rejects European society’s construction of those two things. There is a non-binary lesbian freedom fighter witch. I also think there is also a solid case to be made that Prince Emyr’s soulmate bond with Wyatt is a a flavor of demisexuality but it’s not ever explicitly described as such.

Wyatt’s experience as a trans man is also different from the most commonly pushed narrative of a person “born in the wrong body.” I think it’s extremely important to have the representation of a variety of trans experiences, especially when drawn from the personal experience of that author.

Style wise, the writing reminds me of the Percy Jackson books, but with a more chaotic stream-of-consciousness, lots of memes, Gay Culture and teenage horniness.

I don’t think Edgmon always manages to pull off first-person present tense style well. The plot is rushed and we are constantly bombarded with one chaotic situation after another, and many times they don’t feel linked by cause and effect in a way that would be natural.

At the same time, this is Edgmon’s first book, and it’s level of dedication to portraying queerness in all it’s messiness and beauty is something you just don’t find in other books. He treats each character’s experience of identity and sexuality and something unique to them. He’s committed to the idea that there is no one way to construct gender and no boxes to limit sexuality. This is a book I desperately wish I’d had 15 years ago.

Edgmon does begin the book with a pretty thorough content warning and I want to include it here so people are aware without buying the book. There are instances of sexual harassment of a minor and one assault scene that is not graphic but it’s there. There is also a character who attempts to use his psychic powers to groom a minor. Bodily autonomy is a major theme and especially with the state of things in the US being what they are, this may hit close to home for some folks.

Again, Edgmon says right up front some of this book is rooted in his personal trauma but there is also a strong sense of the empowerment of that comes from reclaiming your pain. There is also an element of revenge fantasy that feels satisfying. If you’re the type of person who finds yourself joking about your own trauma as a way of coping, you’re going to relate to Wyatt.

I do plan to eventually read the sequel— The Fae Keeper— at some point. For all it’s flaws, I liked The Witch King enough that I’m willing to see if Edgmon grew as a writer between the two. If he didn’t, it’s a fast enough read that I won’t mind. I still want to know what happens next and spend more time with these supernatural disaster queers and their world.

If you like the “fated soulmate” trope and are down for a friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers-again romance, I honestly think it’s worth the read. If you’ve got an LGBTQAI+ teen in your life that could use a book that they can see themselves in, I recommend it for them too.

This puts me at 46/162 books. I’m not sure what I’m doing next. I know I was supposed to tackle Whitman but am trying to keep up with my book club, Dracula Daily, and finish the Daevabad Trilogy so I may just try to knock some easy reads and short stories off the list.

So when you hear that a brawl is starting in a nearby neighborhood, you didn't hesitate to drive there, ready to teach these kids a lesson. That's when you met David.

He was a formidable fighter, dare you say that out of the group, he's the only one who can ACTUALLY fight. You can tell from a glance that he's the type to be the one last standing.

Being a fan and knowing wrestling, street fighting, and fist fighting, you were impressed by his skills and you weren't going to lie, you wanted to stay and watch where this fight will go but being a cop, you couldn't do that and instead, arrested who you can and took them back to the station with you-the others immediately ran away like scaredy cats.

You can tell David's been in a lot of fights, he's experienced and he looked akin to a brute, tough and muscular and who's size intimidates anyone who crosses paths with him.

The thing that brought you together were his fighting skills. You complimented him for being a good fighter and soon enough, you bonded over it, talking about wrestling and many other things. At first, you didn't like him as he was an illegal street fighter, you're virtue for becoming a cop was to keep the world safe and peaceful, of course you weren't keen on the idea of becoming his friend. Then you learned that he wasn't all too bad.

What David liked about you was your humor and the fact that you suddenly talk in your native language when talking (or shouting) to someone. He's both amazed and scared at the fact that you can change from a "calm, sweet, and humorous" person to a "serious, scary, and aggressive" person in a blink of an eye. God, bless and have mercy on the soul of who made the mistake of ever insulting you.

OK so this isnt gonna be a real theory or an au or anything serious cause frankly i dont believe that what im about to write is true, but i like the idea so might as well do this

a while ago i found out about Miss X who is an alter ego of Iori Yagami from King of Fighters made for a silly spin off title called SNK Gal’s fighters for the neo geo pocket. The most predictable followup to this information is that i think Iori is trans and yeah this is going to be about “what if Iori trans tho”

As i said i don’t actually think SNK did the wokest move of the 90s of making the most popular character in KOF trans so this isn’t me giving credit for them for something they didnt do, and its also not me trying to reach that even as a mistake they undeniably made Iori trans (cause they didnt). 

Ive just been getting invested in KOF/SNK lore and happened to notice aspects of Iori and Miss X’s portrayal that just makes some sense when i think about it in the context of Iori being trans (kinda like somehow the Danny Phantom writers accidentally made Danny have a lot of transmasc traits)

im referring to Iori with he/him and to Miss X with she/her. every piece of evidence is gonna be in bold letters

Iori is not that deep of a character, he’s the rival of the series’ first protagonist Kyo Kusanagi and has a beef with him cause the Yagami and the Kusanagi had always had beef in the past, this story is more like an excuse for Kyo to have a rival so they literally put Iori in the “Rival Team” of King of Fighters 95 (thats how you know hes the rival)   

That alone is a passable backstory for a rival but for some reason instead of Iori being this prideful family member who’s carrying the torch for them, he doesn’t like them at all. Iori’s ancestors, the Yasakani clan, made a pact with the divine being Orochi, causing all of them to gain the power of controlling purple flames but leaving them with the curse of always dying young and having every mother die when giving birth. He doesn’t really give a shit about whatever family agenda he was born with cause its all really stupid.

But then what’s his deal with Kyo?? It’s unexplained, he just seems to hate him to a point where he gets into the KoF tournaments just to fight him. His lists of likes and dislikes include liking nothing special and disliking violence. He’s not the guy who will turn into a pro fighter just for one person but Kyo just does it for him.

That leads me to believe he really likes being with Kyo. Not as a lover, well maybe, but i think what he calls “hatred” for Kyo might be his unhealthy way of dealing with the immense repression of feelings he lives with.

Another side effect of getting the flames powers from Orochi was that the Yagami have a mental state called Riot of the Blood, which makes them go bersek with power and making them unnable to tell friend and foe apart. Iori lives with “Orichi Iori” inside his mind and that makes him have an identity crisis

I’m not saying that “Orochi Iori”, the bloodthirsty demon is Iori’s repressed trans identity please don’t get this idea

I believe the Orochi in him makes him lose interest in being sociable, why go as far as switching your identity and looks if you don’t want anyone to be around you?

As main KoF lore goes thats about all the hints there are, but what about the silly spin offs?

They aren’t canon of course! But i like to see their content as a representation of a dorky “seriousness-free” side of the characters instead of just nonsense bs

Miss X, who again is Iori in disguise, is the hostess and final boss of the girls only Gals Fighters tournament

Even she’s recognized she keeps it going, she wants to fight as Miss X! in her own tournament!

This scene is a favorite of mine cause i always caption it with “me coming out with my supportive friends” and honestly thats the only vibe i can get from Miss X doing sentai poses with all her teammates

These are from a dream sequence that we get after beating Snk Heroines Tag Team Frenzy! A fairly recent game and the second playable appearance of Miss X. In my pov, they were based on Iori’s repressed feelings for Kyo as a friend that i talked about earlier. I thought this could be a stretch, but Leona’s dream sequence in the same game has the same idea and shows her a nightmare that came from her fear of going berserk and harming her friends

Well that’s about it. I wouldn’t expect any of this to be canon and I’m not even sure i want it to cause y’know, mainstream media and specifically japanese video games aren’t the best at representing trans folk

But it’s a fun little idea and “clone characters but with a twist and a different moveset” are some of my favorite fighting game characters so i hope Miss X appears in more SNK games
