About to paint the back of that jacket I bought the other day. I've mostly seen black painted leather jackets, very few browns, and it's an old one so there's a good chance I'll fuck something up. Especially since I've never painted a jacket, but what the hell.
It's a very simple logo, so we'll see how it goes.

Layton10
Simple but the idea hit me like a truck. I wrote some stuff about Deaf Layton & it's a bit shakey but the idea is there! I put it under the cut↙
Deaf Layton (HC.)
He is oralized, but fluent & relying on BSL. Deaf very young (prior to his adoption) due to an ear infection, severe but not profound (capable of hearing certain sounds). Uses a portable hearing device in certain cases, similar to transistor body hearing aids, worn on the chest with shoulder straps (maybe with an old time-y fantasy twist). Has little to no trouble lip-reading. He is against using his voice in most cases. Successful archaeology professor at Gressenheller University, he teaches in sign language with the company of an interpreter.
— Luke is his enthusiastic voluntary interpreter, met after his involvement in solving the specter case in Misthallery. He is hearing but fluent in BSL, raised on it by Clark & Brenda, who is deaf herself. Marveled by his manners & his way in solving mysteries, he insists on tagging along to his adventures as his makeshift sign language interpreter. Layton agrees on some unknown basis, since it is known that Luke’s interpreting job is a bit odd.
— Emmy learns about BSL after her run-in with the professor in an attempt to connect with him & assist him in his scholarly & investigative duties.
— Descolé is knowledgeable in BSL. His accent has an intense, dramatic quality to it, making it a bit funny & strange. His signing is tailored for Layton to see.
— Flora doesn’t know a lot of BSL, leaving her to be a bit left out of conversations. She learns a few basics, enough to attempt to establish a connection with Layton & Luke.
― Claire didn’t know BSL , but she learned bit by bit with Layton’s guidance. Together , unintentionally, they create a system combining gestures & words, similar to a home sign or pidgin. Layton is comfortable speaking to her.

Round 4, Match 3: Holy Moonlight Sword vs. The Transistor
Holy Moonlight Sword
Tumblr media
From: Bloodborne
Wielder: Ludwig
One of the recurring elements in FromSoftware games, all the way from King's Field to Elden Ring, the Holy Moonlight Sword is the Bloodborne iteration of the weapon. Implied to have been created by the Great Ones (eldritch god-like beings), it is discovered by Ludwig the Holy Blade in the labyrinths beneath Yharnam, and used to fight the scourge of beasts within the city. Eventually, Ludwig lost himself to beasthood, and found his way to the Hunter's Nightmare, along with this Holy Moonlight Sword. In Ludwig's boss fight, the sword would return Ludwig's sanity to him (perhaps due to its eldritch origins and his own familiarity with it), allowing him to fight like a man, rather than a beast. After Ludwig's defeat, it would either be gifted or taken by force by the Good Hunter to use on their own journey.
The Transistor
Tumblr media
From: Transistor
Wielder: Red
The Transistor is a sword that acts as a tool to control and shape Cloudbank (city). The Transistor can shape reality around it, acting as a sort of Task Manager for the game’s world. The way that it does this is through the use of the Process, a legion of robots that directly shape and reconstruct the city. Normally the wielder–or User–of the Transistor would be able to control the Process, but due to Shenanigans at the beginning of the game, Red is unable to control the Process and instead must defeat these robots in combat. Additionally, the Transistor can also absorb the souls of others and use them to unlock combat abilities. Due to further Shenanigans, Red’s boyfriend, Unknown, also gets trapped within the sword, and communicates with Red throughout the game as she wields it.

Systech - overdrive
"Have you ever played a pedal that stuck with you forever, even though you knew in your heart it was totally weird, and nobody famous ever used it? For me, yeah, tons of them. But if I had to pick one that best fit these criteria, this one would be it. This is the Systech Overdrive. Before we dive in, let’s talk a little about where it was made.
There was a time when, of all places, Kalamazoo Michigan was an epicenter for musically related things. Apart from being a city referenced by Looney Tunes and the hometown of Glen Miller’s gal, Kalamazoo had the Sound Factory, which was a collective of sorts that featured guitar luthiery, a recording studio and electronic gear manufacturing. The facility sat front and center on Kalamazoo Avenue, smack dab in the middle of the city, and attracted visitors from all over.
Of course, if it was some random outpost of nobodies, the name wouldn’t carry any weight. However, the Sound Factory was shored up by three relatively heavy hitters of the early ‘70s. One such was Greg Hochman, Keith Emerson’s Moog technician. He was joined by Bryce Roberson, otherwise known as Uncle Dirty of Chess Records fame and a relatively unknown person named Charlie Wicks. If you’ve been reading this column for a while, you’ll recognize him as the man behind ProCo—the Ratfather.
Together, these three developed Systech, which itself was short for “Systems & Technology in Music, Inc.” That mouthful of a company was responsible for the Harmonic Energizer, a little-known yet highly influential effect that provided a deep filtered sound in addition to some crunchy drive and sharp resonant peaks. You might know it as one of Frank Zappa’s signature pieces. And while this Overdrive effect wasn’t that, it was derived from the Harmonic Energizer and shares a handful of characteristics.
Basically, if dialed in just the right way, the Harmonic Energizer will make short work of an entire speaker cabinet and anyone in the audience. This is because it was designed to provide a staggering gain of 55dB, enough to cause serious damage to your gear or hearing. The Overdrive was created to get some of those tones at non speaker-shredding levels.
If you’re thinking this unit is some kind of proto-Tube Screamer, think again. Because this was the early ‘70s, nobody had really decided exactly what “overdrive” meant. And though Maestro (coincidentally, also in Kalamazoo) had created one of almost every effect under the sun, pedal fever wasn’t quite here just yet, so Systech was essentially “winging it.” With that said, the Overdrive is actually a pretty aggressive fuzz sound. And to that end, the fuzz circuit is pretty unique. The entire affair contains two transistors—one a JFET input buffer—and one dual op-amp with a handful of other components. Even the topology is relatively simple, but the simplicity ends with the schematic.
The EQ control works unlike pretty much any EQ control you’ve ever fiddled with; as much an EQ as the whole unit is an overdrive. Instead of a simple tonal adjustment, the EQ control is actually an active bandpass filter, in the same family as a wah circuit. With a simple twist of a knob, you can adjust this filter from 122Hz to 900Hz. As you might imagine, the EQ control sounds relatively cocked-wah-esque, but the sound is much more aggressive than any wah on the market before or since. The reason has to do with the Q factor, essentially a bandwidth control. A wah’s Q is set by its 33K resistor and is much wider than that of the Overdrive, so the tone is a little more rounded. While a wah’s filter is a rubber mallet, the Systech Overdrive’s is a tack hammer. While the sound is curious, the thing really comes to life when you crank the EQ control, as it gives you a nice punch in the mids. You lose a little definition when you get to the bottom third, but man is it fun to play with.
“Distortion” is just what it sounds like, but curiously enough, “Gain” is about as close to a volume knob as you’re going to get. Much like Distortion, if you turn it all the way down it kills the entire signal, but it sits behind a final gain stage. If you have the guts to crank both Distortion and Gain, you’re richly rewarded with gobs of gooey sustain, but the flipside is that your amp is likely screaming “uncle.” Worth it? Your call. I say go for it.
Many people say Zappa used a Systech Overdrive, but alas, he did not. However, when you play it, you can definitely see the similarities between this unit and the fabled Harmonic Energizer. But as far as I’m concerned, it’s close enough for rock and roll."

Have you ever played the game Transistor? If you haven’t it’s basically a guy gets killed protecting a girl, he is uploaded into the sword that killed him and she is able to hear him. The bad guys are basically templars and are trying to take away power from the masses for the greater good (by making a super powerful tool - the sword). She then goes on a revenge quest with the sword with him encouraging her the whole time. It is an extremely romantic revenge quest.
There is one point, while he is in the sword, where he says something like, ‘when I look up to where the sky should be, all I see is you.’
And I just sort of went, oh dear, that is SUCH a Desmond thing. So yeah lol what if Desmond is in Altair’s sword/hidden blade. Or maybe even the reverse?
Oh god, yeeessss.
That does sound like something they would say XD
Both of them could work as the sword in this scenario but, since we’ve been making Desmond into so many things (mostly animal), let’s make Altaïr the sword for this one.
To be more exact, his consciousness was placed in the Sword of Altaïr after his death.
He doesn’t know how it happened.
He remembered giving the sword to Darim years back, when his hands had gone weak and trembled at times that wielding a sword was simply too dangerous for him and those around him.
And being in the sword made him lethargic. Too weak to do anything but hear what was happening around him.
He heard Darim be with his family.
He heard Darim gifting him to his oldest daughter, his successor.
Not as a mentor but as the successor to the will of the Ibn-La'Ahad, the will to see what lies beyond the unknown.
The sword changes hands for every generation.
Parent to child until…
One of his descendants gave it to his pupil for he did not have any child of his own.
Later on, he fell to the hands of the Auditores.
To Ezio Auditore.
The one they call the prophet.
He was there when Ezio heard Minerva’s message.
He was there when Ezio found his remains.
He was there when Ezio gifted him to the next mentor of the Italian Brotherhood.
Time passed on and he continued to stay in that half-conscious state.
Only hearing.
Even when he tries to speak…
No one heard him.
The world evolves.
People moved forward.
And he soon found himself ‘worthless’ in this world of firearms and heavy machinery.
He was left to rot in a case, cared for with the love of an antiquity with historical value.
He would much preferred to be considered as a tool for death.
At least a tool had a tangible purpose.
As a display, he felt… empty.
One day, the case shattered and a hand gripped him tightly.
And brought him to the Templars.
Daniel Cross.
An Assassin that had been a Templar from the very beginning.
Altaïr knew there was more to it than what he knows but he knows nothing for that was all he heard when Cross gave him to a man named Vidic.
He was placed in an office as a decoration.
No.
A trophy.
All he could do was hear and watch as they killed Assassins and their families.
To purge the Assassins, not caring if they were the elderly or the children.
The Templars had grown more brutal and cold as time passed on.
Some of them cling to their ideology.
Others were blind with their greed for power and riches.
And Altaïr was powerless to stop them.
Powerless to stop the cruelty he hears.
Powerless to stop even just the cruelty in front of him as more and more people fell prey to the torture of the Animus.
Powerless to stop as Clay Kaczmarek stained his blade with blood, whispering to him breathlessly, “It’s okay… soon… you’ll meet him…”
Powerless as they brought the next man, his own descendant, and forced him to watch Altaïr’s own memories.
He had enough.
He had thought he would never feel such rage ever again.
But this…
All of these…
Forgiveness is a kindness Altaïr would never show them.
But he was powerless.
All he could was watch as they find the map in Altaïr’s memories.
All he could was watch as they left Desmond alive and Desmond didn’t even know it was because they plan to use him once more.
To make him trust Lucy Stillman enough to continue to play to their tune.
He watched as Lucy Stillman pretended to be his ally and took him out of his prison. Instead of taking Desmond away as quickly as they could, she orders him to lie down on the Animus once more.
But Desmond…
Desmond stared at him.
Lucy couldn’t stop him. No matter how much she tells him that they have no time and they need to be quick, Desmond didn’t listen.
Desmond walked towards him and placed his hand on his hilt.
And Altaïr…
Altaïr woke for the first time.
“Desmond…”
Lucy didn’t react.
She did not hear him.
But Desmond…
“Altaïr…” Desmond held him close and Altaïr felt his blade sharpened as it glowed lightly. The metal he had used, the very same metals that he had used in his Armor as his Apple instructed…
It hums.
No.
It sings.
“My Desmond…” Altaïr whispered back.
He knew it in what remains in him, trapped in this prison of metal and death.
Desmond was his.
The one he was waiting for…
The one who would understand Altaïr’s centuries of loneliness…
… and his thirst for vengeance…
.
.
Unorganized Notes:
Desmond and Altaïr bonds immediately and deeply because (Desmond) Bleeding Effect and (Altaïr) lack of connection and desire for vengeance. They’re very protective of one another.
Yeah, the Sword of Altaïr is a man-made POE like the Armor of Altaïr. Unlike the Armor of Altaïr, Altaïr’s conscious serves as the ‘master unit’ to unlock the metal’s more advanced functions that makes the Sword of Altaïr very similar to the Sword of Eden. The Armor of Altaïr could have served as a lite Shroud of Eden but it didn’t have a ‘master unit’ so it’s just very durable.
This is actually Minerva’s final attempts to change the Calculations after she saw Desmond die and she picked Altaïr because Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton are both being watched by Juno and Altaïr (with Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton) had the highest percentage of connecting with Desmond.
The sword is made of the same metal as an Isu weaponry so it doesn’t alarm any metal detector.
This would be more like Altaïr and Desmond going rogue and starting to destroy Abstergo facilities while taking out Templars without contacting the Assassins. It’s personal for both of them as they both have reasons to want vengeance against the Templars.
Along the way, they start to fall in love.
It is ‘muddied’ if their feelings for one another are their own or if Minerva’s hastily edited Calculations had a hand on it to keep them loyal to one another.
Regardless, Altaïr would probably say “Even if this was fate, what I feel is real. My love for you is real to me. You are all that matters to me, Desmond.” or something similar XD
Lucy would probably die in this one because Altaïr knows she betrayed the Assassins and is part of the reason why a lot of Assassins died (either directly like Clay or indirectly by giving the Templars information).
It’s because of Lucy’s death that Shaun and Rebecca (and the Assassins) would take a more antagonistic role in this one. They don’t know Desmond personally but they know he killed their friends so they might have been ordered to find and ‘capture’ him but they see him as a murdered (even though they also believe that Desmond believes her to be a Templar).

Prologue: The Space Between Universes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CW: This story has adult language, adult situations, sex, gore, and violence. It regularly deals with traumatic situations, mental health issues, and drug use. It is intended for mature readers (18+).
TW: Blood and creepy characters in this chapter + references to death
Excerpt from "The After-life for Gods and Monsters," location of book unknown.
The space between universes isn’t anything so dreamy as the old myths portend.
Tumblr media
There’s no feeling of weightlessness or enchanting choral music, and certainly, no gossamer hands gently guiding you toward a welcoming light.
Mostly, there’s a concrete floor and dingy walls. And an old transistor radio tuned to 87.3 so the staff can listen to the real oldies—Selvadoradian chants with the occasional saucy tone poem from an ancient Windenburgian Monk.
Tumblr media
You don’t float; you fall.
Tumblr media
And after you land, or rather, hit the cold floor of what looks like the world’s shittiest warehouse, you’re pretty much left to your own devices.
Tumblr media
At least, that’s how it seems. Truthfully, the warehouse is pretty busy, and everyone has enough work to do without wasting valuable milliseconds trying to decipher your questions through your tears.
Tumblr media
And the questions are always the same, anyway:
Why?
Because.
Am I supposed to be here?
Yes.
Can you give me something to relieve the pain?
Honestly, does this look like a pharmacy to you?
Also, no.
At some point, when you’ve pulled your shit together enough to stop wailing and accept your circumstances—come what may—someone does show up to talk to you.
Two “someones,” actually: Time and her wife, Substance. And yes, no matter what form they appear in, they’re a little bit rude.
Tumblr media
They’ll explain to you (with some level of irritation) that, of course, this isn’t a fucking warehouse, and it’s not their fault that your puny mind can’t interpret the true nature of the space between the stars.
Tumblr media
And no, not actual stars, obviously. The fact that you would even ask that shows you’re not listening.
Tumblr media
Assuming they’re interested in your continued presence after all that, Time will sit at the desk, and Substance will mend your bones and stuff your organs back inside your body.
Tumblr media
—If you have bones.
—If you have organs.
If you haven’t already done it yourself, and frankly, if you want to make a good impression, you should.
Tumblr media
The questions they ask are also always the same. And be you god, queen, man, or monster, you are expected to answer.
Who would you be in a whole new world?
Tumblr media
What would you do with a new set of circumstances?
Tumblr media
And on occasion, depending on who you were—or what you were, they’ll ask a secret third question.
Tumblr media
It’s hard to tell if your answer really matters because as soon as you open your mouth, everything goes black.
And then, strangely, you start to hear a loud ringing.
Tumblr media
—Followed by some upbeat choral chimes and a little bit of buzzing.
Tumblr media
And try as you might; you won’t be able to recall a single tangible thing about the space between the universes.

### Report on the Ancient Cogitator
#### Found in the Depths of Mars
**By the Omnissiah’s Grace, Servant of the Machine God, Tech Priest Dominus Pdep Eith**
---
**Date: M39.305**
**Subject: Cogitator Designation – Unknown**
---
In the year of the Omnissiah M42.305, an expedition into the subterranean vaults beneath the surface of Mars did yield a most wondrous find: an ancient cogitator of unknown origin, long lost to the sands of time. This device, encrusted with the dust of millennia, hath been identified through the holy rites of tech-retrieval as a device of remarkable antiquity. By the will of the Machine God, I do hereby present a thorough account of its features and internal layout.
#### External Features
The exterior of this venerable cogitator doth present itself in a rectangular form, wrought from a durable metal alloy that hath withstood the ravages of countless ages. The surface is adorned with an array of switches and lights, each one a testament to the artisanship of ancient tech-priests. The face of the cogitator is dominated by a control panel, bedecked with a myriad of toggle switches, rotary controls, and luminescent indicators.
- **Dimensions:** Approximately three feet in height, two feet in width, and a foot in depth.
- **Material:** Sturdy alloy, resistant to corrosion and wear.
- **Interface:** An array of manual switches and indicator lights for direct interaction.
#### Internal Layout
Upon delving into the inner sanctum of the cogitator, the sacred architecture reveals itself in a manner most intricate. The internal layout is a marvel of ancient engineering, exhibiting a modular design that doth allow for ease of access and maintenance by those initiated in the rites of tech-repair.
- **Processing Unit:** The heart of the cogitator, the Central Processing Unit (CPU), is a compact assembly of transistors and circuits. It doth operate at a clock speed of 1 MHz, a relic by today’s standards, yet a marvel of its time.
- **Memory:** The cogitator doth possess a core memory of 4,096 words, each word being twelve bits in length. This magnetic core memory is both robust and reliable, providing swift access to data.
- **Input/Output Modules:** The cogitator is equipped with various I/O modules, allowing for the connection of peripheral devices. These modules are interfaced via a backplane, a unifying structure of interconnecting circuits.
- **Power Supply:** The power sanctum of the cogitator is a robust unit, designed to convert and regulate energy, ensuring the smooth operation of the cogitator’s components.
#### Operational Characteristics
The operational rites of the cogitator are governed by a series of machine instructions, simple yet powerful in their execution. The instruction set architecture is designed to perform a variety of computational tasks with efficiency and precision.
- **Instruction Set:** Comprising a minimalistic set of operations, including basic arithmetic, logic, control flow, and data manipulation instructions.
- **Programming:** The cogitator is programmable via electro-arcana script, each instruction directly corresponding to a machine operation.
- **Performance:** While humble by the standards of our current sacred machinery, the cogitator performs its designated tasks with admirable fidelity and speed.
#### Conclusion
In the name of the Omnissiah, the rediscovery of this ancient cogitator doth enrich our understanding of the ancient ways. This cogitator, a relic of a bygone era, stands as a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of those who came before us. As we venerate the Machine God, let us continue to unearth and study such treasures, that we may preserve the sacred knowledge and further the glory of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
By the will of the Omnissiah and the blessings of the Machine God, this report is thus concluded.
**Ave Deus Mechanicus.**

I wanna honestly appreciate Logan Cunningham for his voice acting.
I still break with Transistor. His voice acting is impeccable. The mood, the commentary, the company, the cheering, the jokes, the corrupted/drunk and the heartbreak of the final scene (every time I hear it I get more pain)
But he also voices the Narrator, Hades, Poseidon, Charon, Achilles and Asterion (the minotaur). I can't tell it's the same voice thanks to the deformation effects and also the moods each character has.
Also he reprises the roles that appear again (Achilles and Asterius haven't appeared (yet?)) but adding Polyphemus and Cronos. I found out after accidentally entering the Credits in game.
It's just. I need that man earning something because each character he delivers is too precious. Transistor has me on a chokehold because of his voice and mood. I was shocked when I found out he also voices Hades. And now I'm even more after finding out Cronos has his voice as well.
Like all my issues have the same voice actor.
Lover? Transistor/Unknown/Mr Nobody/Auden/Boxer/Blue. Father? Hades. Mentor? Achilles. In-law? Charon. Someone narrating my life? Homer. Grandpa? Cronos. Uncle? Poseidon. An animal? Asterius. An enemy? Polyphemus.
He's got all of them, and he serves them good.
