Having Nonbinary Sapphic Tuvok Brainrot Lately…

Then in the delta quadrant he isn't able to be a husband or a father any more and is just some guy surrounded by humans...hmmmmmm....

Still doesn't really seriously think it's worth questioning or exploring his gender identity (partially out of a desire to return home as he left...what will his wife and children think? He's experienced a LOT of sudden change in regards to his personal identity and life, he doesn't really want to undergo more.) until Seven of Nine comes along and also begins to go through a "Questioning Her Gender" arc. Tuvok thinks about it on his own time for a long time and then finally goes to Janeway for support and assistance and together they spend like SEVERAL months just the two of them seeing what this whole gender thing's about. Tuvok slowly exploring expressing himself in a more feminine manner because he's spent his whole life adhering rigidly to one sort of Look. Unexpectedly struggles with anxiety about this. Neelix: Don't be nervous Ms. Vulcan! Tuvok: [nervous] I am not nervous. Tuvok and Seven BOTH exploring masculinity/femininity and their own nonbinary gender identities...late night slumber par- experimentation. Painting each others nails is...very scientific. It's important. Talking with Janeway was good because she's his friend but talking with Seven, another person actively questioning their gender is....well, it's something else.

2024 Paris Olympics - Games Wide Open

At the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, women took part for the first time. There were 22 of them. In 2024, there will be full gender equality, an equal number of men & women competing in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. This sets a precedent for future Games.

Reaffirming its commitment to keeping the “Games Wide Open” and to the fight against discrimination, the Games will host the Pride House which will serve as an “identifiable, safe and welcoming place for LGBTIQ+ fans, athletes, and allies.” The Pride House will be a barge located at the heart of the Games at Rosa Bonheur sur Seine.

The 2024 Olympics includes at least 175 queer athletes from at least 24 countries, including the Refugee Team. There's at least 1 publicly out athlete across 32 sports.

Once again, The United States has the most out athletes at the Olympics, with 28. Team USA is followed in the number of out LGBTQ athletes by Brazil (22), Australia (17), Great Britain (10), and Germany (9).

Some of the highest profile queer athletes at this year’s Olympic Games include British diver Tom Daley, track star Sha’Carri Richardson and trans nonbinary runner Nikki Hiltz.

The vast majority of athletes on the list of queer Olympians, more than 150, are women. Compare these percentages to 18% of all Star Trek fics that are K/S, 12% Kirk/Bones, and 5% Bashir/Garak.

Also, who gets pregnant the most? This is a complicated question because a lot of these fics are tagged with multiple pairings! Based on sorting by kudos, the people want Kirk to be pregnant the most. As far as I can tell, the most common pregnant characters are Spock, Kirk, Bashir and Garak, and the reasons range from the more intuitive "this species' males get pregnant" and "trans man gets pregnant" to the more Trek-y "this planet makes people get a/b/o biology and omegas get pregnant" and "alien diplomats magically impregnate Kirk". Shoutout to mpreg planet I feel like that could be a real Star Trek episode. Spock seems to get pregnant more than Kirk (makes sense what with mysterious reproductive biology in canon i guess?), but Bashir and Garak seem to share the burden. Also Garak lays eggs in a nonzero number of these fics which is neat.

Era cedo quando Hana entrou na delegacia, os olhos castanhos varrendo o local em busca de um rosto conhecido e, ao não encontrar nenhum colega da Kappha Phi, supôs que seria a primeira infeliz a dar depoimento no dia. Ela suspirou, lançando um olhar para o advogado ao seu lado, que se encontrava lá por insistência de Jin, seu marido. Apenas uma precaução, ele dissera, pois temia que os policiais ou o nervosismo levassem Hana a dizer algo que a comprometesse. Não que ele acreditasse que ela tinha alguma culpa no acidente de Fiona, tampouco que estivesse envolvida no assassinato do presidente da fraternidade. Oh, não, nada disso. O medo de Jin residia na possibilidade de ela abrir a boca para contar o quão alterada estava naquela noite há nove anos atrás, ao ponto nem sequer ter certeza o do que havia visto e o que não passara de alucinação. Essa informação não só a colocaria como suspeita do crime, como causaria uma mancha na imagem da família perfeita que se esforçaram tanto para manter.

Hana foi afastada de seus pensamentos por um policial que a abordou para conduzi-la em direção a sala onde aconteceria o interrogatório. Ao adentrar no cômodo, deparou-se com o delegado sentado a esperar por si, então ela sentou na cadeira oposta a ele, enquanto o advogado tomou o assento ao seu lado.

" — Bom dia, senhora Lee. " Desprat a cumprimentou, alternando o olhar para o colega de trabalho dele que a conduzira até a sala e que agora tirava um bloquinho de notas do bolso de trás. Antes de voltar a falar, o delegado já direcionava sua atenção para Hana outra vez. " — Antes de começarmos as perguntas, gostaria de um copo de café, chá..? Posso mandar alguém buscar para a senhora. " ele ofereceu, com um sorriso, indicando com um gesto o policial que entrara por último na sala. Uma gentileza ensaiada, Hana reconhecia muito bem, a intenção, no entanto, fugia do seu conhecimento. Talvez uma maneira de fazer com ela se sentisse à vontade? Bom, não havia surtido efeito, pois ela se mexeu inquieta no assento antes de respondê-lo.

" — Não, obrigada. Eu tomei café antes de vir. " negou, educadamente, devolvendo o sorriso que lhe fora oferecido. Uma mentira, não havia ingerido nada desde ontem, o nervosismo embrulhava seu estômago ao ponto de perder o apetite. Algo lhe dizia que não seria a única mentira que contaria naquela manhã. " — Certo. Vamos começar, então. " o delegado declarou, o sorriso dele esmaecendo, o tom de voz e a feição adquirindo certa seriedade. Antes de continuar, ele consultou rapidamente os papéis em suas mãos.

" Onde você estava na data da morte de Victor? "

" — Hum... Viajei de Paris para Des Moines, isso de manhã. Não me recordo o horário ao certo, desculpe. Passei a tarde no meu apartamento, no centro da cidade, e à noite compareci a uma confraternização da empresa com Jin, meu marido. Depois, voltei com ele para o apartamento e voltamos para Paris no dia seguinte. " Hana respondeu, de forma calma e direta, sem dar muitos detalhes. A bem a verdade, não se recordava muito do que havia feito naquela tarde, provavelmente fora mais um dia entediante como tantos em sua vida. Ela só esperava que isso não abrisse brechas para suspeitas por parte da polícia. Para a sua sorte, a resposta parecia ter sido o suficiente para Baptiste mover para a próxima pergunta.

" Você o conhecia? Como era a relação de vocês? "

" — Seria impossível estar na Kappha Phi e não conhecer Victor. Então, sim, eu o conhecia. Sobre a nossa relação... Erámos só colegas, eu acho? " ponderou ela, revisitando memórias antigas que os envolviam, não conseguindo encontrar nenhum momento que evidenciava que um dia foram mais do que dois conhecidos que se davam bem. Agora, depois do desfecho trágico de Victor, e movida por alguma curiosidade mórbida, Hana desejou ter sido mais próxima dele. " — Eu não o conhecia tão bem quanto outros membros da fraternidade, mas vivíamos sob o mesmo teto, a convivência era tranquila e conversamos algumas vezes em ocasiões diferentes. " concluiu, com crispar de lábios e um leve erguer de ombros.

" Você sabia que Victor estava investigando a vida das pessoas que integravam a Kappa Phi na data do acidente de Fiona? Alguma vez foi procurado por ele? "

" — Não, não sabia que eu estava sendo investigada por Victor. " respondeu com um riso soprado, como se a ideia fosse absurda. Tratava-se, no entanto, de uma meia-verdade. A informação da investigação feita por Victor havia sido compartilhada na coletiva de imprensa do caso, então o advogado de Hana a alertara para possibilidade do nome dela estar no meio da lista de suspeitos do falecido. Ela só poderia se indagar qual informação Victor tinha sobre si para incluí-la naquilo, talvez ele pudesse preencher lacunas vazias em sua memória a respeito do fatídico dia. Novamente, desejou ter sido mais próxima dele enquanto ele ainda estava vivo. " — E, não, Victor nunca me procurou. Com o olhar baixo, observando um ponto qualquer na mesa a sua frente, Hana ainda divagava sobre as informações que Victor podia ter quando o delegado proferiu a mesma pergunta que ouvira nove anos atrás. Os olhos castanhos ergueram-se imediatamente, encarando Baptiste e, logo em seguida, focaram no advogado que se pôs a falar pela primeira vez. " — Minha cliente foi chamada para dar depoimento a respeito do caso Victor Dagoty, não do acidente de Fiona. De qualquer forma, a sra. Lee, na época conhecida como srta. Kwon, já compartilhou o que sabia sobre o ocorrido há nove anos atrás. " o homem declarou, impassível, virando para Hana no mesmo instante para tranquilizá-la: " — Não precisa responder isso. " por mais que fosse uma sugestão, Hana teve a impressão que se tratava de uma ordem. Ao seu ver, seria suspeito evitar a pergunta ao invés de repetir a mesma mentira contada no passado. Então, com um suspiro seguido por um sorriso fraco, ela encarou o delegado outra vez. " — Está tudo bem, eu vou responder. Não sei ao certo o que aconteceu com Fiona, assim como o maioria eu exagerei um pouco na bebida. Em algum momento dei falta do meu celular, subi no segundo andar em direção ao meu quarto e ouvi o barulho que parecia um tiro. Eu entrei no cômodo, tranquei a porta e esperei até ter certeza de que era seguro para sair. Depois me disseram que encontraram Fiona... imóvel. " suspirando, deixou cair os ombros. Quantas vezes teria que contar a mentira até que ela se tornasse verdade? Exausta, Hana se permitiu ser totalmente sincera ao responder a segunda pergunta: " — Não sei o que pensar, se foi um acidente ou não. Gosto de pensar que ninguém da fraternidade faria mal a ela, e que se fosse, de fato um crime, o responsável seria um dos desconhecidos que compareceram a festa naquela noite, mas... Talvez eu estivesse errada, você disse que o Victor estava investigando membros da Kappha Phi. "

" Acha que Victor tinha motivos para desconfiar que alguém tinha causado o acidente? "

" — Como eu disse, nunca acreditei que um membro da Kappha Phi seria responsável pelo acontecido com Fiona. Isto é, até hoje. Não sei o que Victor descobriu, ou pensou ter descoberto, para suspeitar dos meus colegas. Talvez ele tivesse certo, talvez não... Não tenho como saber. " deu de ombros, sentindo o olhar de repreensão do advogado sobre si. Era a segunda vez que Hana hesitava e não descartava logo de cara a possibilidade de Victor estar certo, embora tivesse sido instruída a não dar nenhum pouco de credibilidade para a investigação dele. Segundo o advogado, quanto mais a mulher contribuísse para a fama de Victor de paranoico e obcecado, melhor. Porém, ela decidiu que lidaria com a consequências disso depois.

" Qual motivo ele tinha para achar que você estava envolvido? "

" — Também queria saber, para ser sincera. " disse ela, pensativa, com um suspiro e um arquear de sobrancelhas enquanto as costas encontravam o encosto da cadeira. Hana realmente queria saber, não estava mentindo a respeito disso. Victor podia ser a chave para preencher as lacunas da sua memória e diferençar o que era real ou não. Bom, agora não tinha como saber. A não ser, é claro, que o responsável por aquela carta tivesse a par das investigações do ex-presidente da Kappha Phi, mas Hana estava incerta se encontraria respostas com essa pessoa. Quem quer que fosse o remetente, não parecia estar disposto a nada além de vingança.

" Você foi procurado por Victor nos últimos anos? "

" — O senhor já não fez essa pergunta? " rebateu, com um franzir de cenhos. Não se tratava de um déjà vu, disso tinha certeza, mas por que o delegado estava batendo de novo nessa tecla? Estranho, pensou. " — De qualquer forma, não, Victor não me procurou. Se o fez, não chegou ao meu conhecimento. " Hana declarou com firmeza, fazendo uma nota mental de checar a caixa de entrada do seu antigo e-mail para sanar a curiosidade que o oficial havia despertado em relação a essa questão. Logo em seguida, Dr. Baptiste deu por finalizado o interrogatório, dizendo que poderia entrar em contato no futuro. Hana e o advogado despediram-se do homem e deixaram o local rumo ao seu apartamento, onde provavelmente remoeriam o que havia sido dito.

Saw a post a while back about favourite and least favourite bits of star trek and I wanted to join in. So here's my two cents :

Original Star Trek

Favourite: Spock. Bones. Scotty. Uhura. Kirk. Chapel. Sulu. Chekov. EVERYONE. The sets. The lighting. The camp. The blatant homoeroticism. The do or die for each other crew. That time they found an alien that was just a pomeranian wearing fancy headgear. The fact that every episode is self contained and ends with a little bit where everyone stands around the conn and chats. Leonard Nimoy. Sulu with a sword. Sulu the rest of the time.EVERYONE. This is my favourite trek, and the one I return to over and over again. First trek is best trek.The bell bottom trousers and cuban heel knee high boots. More kinky boots, modern trek, d'ya hear me? More kinky boots.

Least favourite: When the show reveals how terribly it can abandon everything that makes it good. Of all the episodes, there's about a third I just cannot watch. Times where they fill it full of weird christian metaphor.

TNG

Favourite: Geordie and Data. And Spot. I keep trying to watch this but I've only ever seen A Fistful of Datas. IT was great. And horribly horribly slow. (oh. And one where Picard chases bandits through the ship armed only with a saddle and while dodging a laser car wash. That one was great. Except for when I rewatched this as an adult. When it was horrifying.)

Least favourite: Invented the holodeck which gets used too much later and which always confuses me. Can't watch holodeck episodes without obsessing over how it works. Everything is carpeted and it panics me. Why are there wall to wall carpets in the future. In high traffic areas. Also it was genrerally too slow and difficult to watch. And whil I love Hornblower I have neither a headmaster nor a Naval Captain fetish, so Picard never does it for me.

DS9

Favourites: Everyone. Everyone together. I want Sisko to be my dad. Or my friend. Or my Captain. All of the above. Julian Bashir trans icon. Jadzia Dax trans icon. Everyone is poly and queer. Ferengi episodes. Kira Nerys lesbian energy. Every 36 hours I turn into a liquid. I can swim. The whole Odo marrying Lwxwna episode. Our Man Bashir. He was more than a hero. He was a Union Man. It's written all over his back.

Least favourite : When they switched to serialised I do struggle to keep watching. Taking away Kira's butch haircut and stompy boots. Show never recovered from that. Any time they give Kira a beard. I've never finished the series bc I couldnt face the Julian/parents arc or the Jadzia death/Julian and Ezri thing. When they stopped Andrew Robinson from being on screen with Siddig El Fadil. Any time Dukat got more than a minute airtime. Any executive decision Rick Berman made.

Voyager:

Favourites: Seven of 9. Harry Kim. Janeway. B'elanna. The time they all opereated the French Resistance out of a bar. Stand alone episodes. The time Janeway definitely slept with Amerlia Earhart. The time Janeway ran around in a dirty singlet with a big gun. That episode where they hide the telepaths in the buffers of the transporters to sneak past a moustache twirling villain while Janeway flirts with him like they're both opponent pirate captains with insane homoerotic tension. Ther's coffee in that nebula.

Least favourites: The Doctor. Seven not getting a uniform. Tom Paris any time he's not just Harry Kim's boyfriend. Janeway's inconsistent characterisation. The fact that phages might be a real world last line defence against antibiotic resistance but thanks to voyager it will always terrify me. I've never made it to the end because Tom/B'elanna was too hard to watch and I didn't know how to deal with them actually getting home. Ithink they never should have. Any executiev decision Rick Berman made.

Enterprise:

Favourites: I have seen two episodes and Hoshi Sato has my heart forever. Phlox is great. Tight-wound angry queer british guy can stay too. Travis is great. Theme song is terrible and I love it. It's so incongruent. Sounds like the sort of country song you listen to while committing suicide in the bathtub. Can't stop singing it. The fact that it killed Rick Berman's career.

Least favourite: Everything else. The dog in particular. Why is it there. Why is it soulless. Poor Jolene Blalock. Why are their uniforms so bad. I love a jumpsuit but they didn't colour code them properly! Every executive decision Rick Berman made.

JJ Abrams:

Favourites: Nothing. This is terrible.. If you can't make up you own characters why are you butchering my boys. Go away.

Least Favorites: Trying to remake wrath of Khan (the worst movie with the original cast imo) without even bothering to buiild the relationship that makes us care. Why is he still white? Why are they in a brewery? Why is Pike a hot dad now? He's a wreck of the american masculine heroic ideal who exists as a counterpoint to Kirk. If tumblr wants to make his doomed ass a poor little meow meow fine. JJ Abrams shouldnt put him in his movie. Every exectuive decision they made about women in this movie. Making Sulu gay in massive disrespect to Takei's depiction of him and Takei's own acting skills. Making everyone else straight in the worst possible way. Pretending miniskirts in 2009 meant the same thing as in 1969. Also I stoppped after the first couple because it was starting to feel like i was just doing to make myself mad. Blue orbs. The fact their chracterisation feels like if you'd never seen star trek but a cabbie had explained it you once badly, and the fact that literally WAS WHAT HAPPENED

Oh wait. Leonard Nimoy cameo. only good thing.

Discovery.

Favourites: Wanted to love it. Couldn't see what was going on because it was too dark. Everytime I tried in spite of that I fell in love with many parts of it, then they immediately fucked it over. Michael Burnham? In jail for unfair reasons. Cap. Georgiou? Dead. Burnham should be Captain, and I think she still isn't. I don't know I couldnt see. Etc etc. Apparently it gets better but It's too serialised to start in the middle.

Least Favourites: Too dark. Bad uniforms (Why would you bring back the ENTERPRISE uniforms of all things?) The fact that klingons are now middle eastern coded so that they still align with the zeitgeist of who we're being xenophobic again right now. (OOHscary FIGHTYculture is Russian. No WAIT black. NO middle eastern. yeah) Jason Isaacs. I liike my villains NOT on the crew. Personal preference but it's just not my kind of star trek when it's this dark. Thematically and visually. Why does EVERYONE have to be related to Spock (ok this one dates back to tos and it's annoying if funny there too)

Lower Decks: I don't do this format of cartoons.

Prodigy: Favourite: its a kids show and has those priorities but I had a surprising amount of fun. Usually I don't do animation but this is relatively watchable.Despite feeling like it's also star wars and Indiana Jones and a ton of other types of story all at once, they also captured Star Trek better than any of the other modern ones. Janeway. Og murph. Wesley Crusher cameo. REFERENCE TO OPERATION ANNIHILATE MY BELOVED!

Least Favourites: Janeway being given physiology of a Barbie doll. Murph being turned from a intelligent adult slug with dog energy into a pointless toddler. It would have been kinder to kill him. Desynchronization of voice and face in a way that makes it tiring to watch (I'm just fussy about animation). Janeway in a singlet revival ruined by aforementioned Barbie physique. Give me older fatter buffer Janeway!

Too dark to see. Also stop just redoing the original characters. Make your own. For years now I get excited about new Star Trek and it ALWAYS either too dark to see or too animated to see or just about tos characters done badly. At which point I'll just go watch tos. Also remember when Star Trek uniforms actually looked futuristic? Yeah, me too. I know everyone likes this one there's probably a lot of good in it but I can't get into it.

Turn the lights back on and maybe we can talk. And at least Rick Berman isn't involved.
