Izumi thinks she has a good life, a great life, even, once she gave up on becoming a Hero for something more realistic. But then she meets Knuckleduster, and Pop★Step, and her life changes.

Koichi loves Heroes. His favorite used to be All Might, but recently that changed. Most days now, he wears a green hoodie adorned with bunny ears.

It’s been a while since that day, when he was twelve years old and Deku swooped down into that alley to save him from some group of jerks trying to steal his metaphorical lunch money. But even before then - back when she’d been a vigilante in Naruhata - he’d looked up to her. She was, in Koichi’s humble estimation, a True Hero.

Posting this to my tumblr to spread the word a bit. Been working on this fucker for a goddamn MINUTE (since September 2022, in fact) and I’m really hoping I can spread the word about it, get some of those delicious comments that fuel me so. I posted the first chapter (along with a (slightly pretentious) foreword) on Christmas day, and I’m posting one chapter per week. We’re on chapter 4 now, and I’ve got 200k+ words already written, so there’s a lot to look forward to!

“Don’t do it.” a voice says. Watanabe Hinata jerks and turns to see a green haired girl standing behind her in the alley. She's dressed in a pair of ripped pants with one side black and the other a pastel blue. She wears a jean jacket covered in pins over a pastel pink tank top with the middle finger emoji on it. “You'll regret it.” the girl says.

“Reg… regret it?!” Hinata snaps. “I’ll regret it? How do you know what the fuck I’ll regret?!” what does this person know?

“I know those are Primordial shoes. I have the same pair in my closet at home.” the girl says. She digs into a pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. She takes one out. “You smoke?”

“No,” Hinata says, voice off. She blinks at the girl who so casually confessed to her Quirklessness. She has money, obviously, if she can afford those boots that aren't red. The girl nods and puts the pack back into her pocket while fishing a lighter up. “… what will I regret?”

“You know about magic,” the girl says. She tilts her head. “I bet you've already tried finding a teacher didn't you. Not quite good enough for a wizard to want, no musical talent? The Paladin oath doesn't hold?” Hinata flushes.

“None of your business!” she snaps. It's true. It's all true. She'd hoped and prayed so much but magic just wasn't working. Not the learning way. She had no talent for wizarding magic and she couldn't carry any tune. The oath fell flat and she’d been denied the chance at a temple. She has nothing.

“It's not yeah, but I'll tell you: you're going to regret making a deal,” the girl says as she lights the cigarette.

“How would you know?” Hinata huffs.

“Because I was eleven years old, holding a child in my arms while running from villains when a Fae appeared with an offer,” the girl says. She puts her lighter away. “I was cornered in an alley with no way out and he was my only option.”

“And you regret it?” Hinata asks.

“It's impossible to regret,” the girl denies. “But it's impossible for me to say I don’t regret it.”

“That makes no sense,” Hinata says.

“I was eleven years old. I didn't know what the fuck I was doing when I accepted the deal. I wanted to live, I wanted to protect my sister. I wanted to see my mom again.” the girl says quietly. “But if I could go back in time I'd say no. I'd find a different way. But I can't regret my choices now.”

“How bad is it?” Hinata asks.

“I have my contract burned onto my back.” the girl says. “I carry it with me. He burns me when I fail and he hurts me when I mess up. I sold my soul to a being more powerful than anyone in this world, and I can’t regret saving myself or my sister. I can’t even regret having powers now. But I can regret the pain. I can regret the fear. I can regret I was taken advantage of. So don’t do it.” the girl finishes her cigarette as Hinata watches in silence.

“Whats your name?” Hinata asks.

“Midoriya Izumi.” the girl says before she walks away. Hinata only watches.

Years later, they meet again. Hinata saw her on TV, competing in the sports festival. It's random chance they run into each other after

Midoriya looks at Hinata and sighs, eyes sad. “Was it worth it?”

Hinata feels the burn on the contract, feels her lungs tighten and her scars pull. She snorts.

“No.”

Okay so. I have issues with how ftm headcanons are treated in fandom.

...Before I begin, I write this with no intention of shaming trans men or transmascs or any trans people who allign with men or masculinity, you can headcanon your gender however you like after all. Everyone else who headcanons things like this though... well I won't say I'm not judging at least.

Ah.. also, please do not expect intelligent writing, I'm literally just a dude talking about my feelings towards things. I will probably word things wrong.

With that disclaimer out of the way, here I go!

I notice that near everytime a ftm headcanon gets popular, it's always a character who is in canon male. This alone is not a problem of course, the issue is, most of these guys are feminine in appearance, have flamboyant / weak / 'girly' / other 'unmasculine' traits, or both.

For example, Izuku Midoriya (Mha/bnha), who has extreme compassion and cries often (..and is often characterized in fandom as innocent, small, weak or fragile despite not being so in canon.. wonder why that is) (I want to make a post ranting about Bnha specific headcanons now...), or Leonardo (Rottmnt specifically), who is flamboyant and mostly belived to be queer.

Neither of them are exactly pictures of masculinity, are they? Yet they are the most popular ftm headcanons in their fandoms. When they are being depicted as ftm, they somehow become more feminine or more sensitive or weaker.

Not to say that anyone who IS those things is bad or anything, I would never so much as hint that someone is bad for being comfortable in their own self.

The problem is when that is the ONLY type of trans guy's being depicted (dare I say it's still a problem when it's the majority...?). If you only can handle a trans man when he looks like a woman or acts like a little girl... that's fucking weird!

I don't actually have much more to say besides that. It's just really uncomfortable to constantly have my representation be twinks and characters with non standard masculinity. I want more fat trans guys being headcannoned, more buff guys, more older guys, more literally anything except for the cookiecutter feminine guy. PLEASE.

TDDK runaway (trans)fem!Shouto AU

Sometime in middle school, while on his way home from school, someone accidentally uses their quirk on Shouto that gives the target some traits of their ideal body.

So she realizes, with some awe, that she's now a girl and her scar is gone too (no, she doesn't know why this happened or even what being transgender is). She has an idle thought that her dad might not even believe that it is her, when she gets a spontaneous plan.

She runs away.

With hair dyed black, there's not much tying her to Todoroki Shouto, aside from the eye color and general face shape. She feels pretty confident that she's not going to be found, unless she starts throwing her quirk around. So she's pretty happy that she's now free of that man (she spares an idle thought to Fuyumi and Natsuo, but she doesn't really know them all that well so they must not be too worried right?)

However, living on the streets is harder than it sounds. Just a couple of days later, she's miserable.

Until a green-haired boy reaches out his hand to her.

(With Shouto gone for days, Todoroki Enji realizes there's only one explanation- the boy was kidnapped. His other kids are inconsolable, crying into each other's arms, but he ignores them and focuses even more on his work, dedicating huge chunks of his agency's time and effort to investigating human trafficking rings.)

She rejects his help at first, but he keeps offering over the next couple of days so she eventually accepts. He invites her over to his place for a meal and to wash up. When he asks for a name, though, she doesn't really have anything. Shouto is too obvious, and besides, that's not really a name for a girl anyhow. So, off the top of her head and in a hurry, she's inspired by the person she loves most and calls herself Reina, taking her mother's name and just adding a bit onto it.

The boy, Midoriya, is a little flustered to call a girl by her given name, but does so for lack of any other option.

Midoriya's mother immediately takes to her, but the newly-christened Reina doesn't really understand why. There's not much to love about her. (Meanwhile, Mrs. Midoriya is planning future dates between her son and the nice girl he brought over.)

When they ask her why she'd been on the streets, she gives the Midoriyas a vague story about her family not being nice and lets their imaginations do the work. It maybe works a little too well- a one-night invitation suddenly extends to two, then three, then indefinitely.

It's nice, she thinks, to not be training all the time. Midoriya is pleasing to be around, and has a desire to be a hero not to be the number 1 but to save as many people he can (she respects that). He trains on his own at the beach, with a man he's vague about but seems to be a good, honest man (unlike Endeavor). And Mrs. Midoriya listens to what she has to say, and likes to suggest new hobbies for her to try out. Knitting isn't for her, but she takes to baking, and starts eating lots of sweets and other things she hadn't been allowed to try as Shouto.

How little she knows about girls' anatomy and how to be a girl seems to distress Mrs. Midoriya, who cries when she learns Reina hadn't had any periods before staying with them (and boy, that had been a surprise). She wonders just what tales of abuse Mrs. Midoriya is coming up with in her head, but for now, she won't dispel the nice woman's notions.

Mrs. Midoriya somehow gets her enrolled in Izuku's middle school under a fake surname, though she ends up in a different class than him. It's different from before, being just some girl rather than Endeavor's son.

(Meanwhile, in an old building used by a prolific quirk trafficking gang, three attackers have an unplanned meeting. A pro hero, trying to find his missing son. A schoolteacher, driven to vigilantism by a desparate need to not lose another brother. And a smalltime villain, trying to return the gameboard to how it's supposed to be so he can start his game. For better or for worse, they all recognize each other.)

Reina settles into her new life, enjoying herself greatly. She likes living with the Midoriyas, she likes being a girl, she likes cooking and baking, she likes eating the food she makes, and she especially likes spending time with Midoriya, who she now calls by his given name Izuku.

She also likes not training, which is having some not-totally-unwanted effects on her body. Unused muscle starts to atrophy, and fat tissue starts to replace it from all the food she's been eating. She idly notes that if this keeps up, she'll eventually look like Mrs. Midoriya.

Well, not that that's a bad thing. The woman is an amazing mother and a great role model, so why wouldn't she want to be like her?

Her new classmates, though, ridicule and make fun of her for "getting fat". But she's just confused and doesn't get why that's a bad thing.

Eventually, Izuku starts high school, getting into UA as planned and manifesting a very late quirk along the way. Reina is happy for him, though she wouldn't want to be there with him. Maybe before she ran away, there were some vague plans of becoming number one with just ice, but she's gotten too attached to her current life. UA is too public. She cannot hide from her father there.

(Elsewhere, an operation silently begins to take shape. Heroes move,taking aim at Jaku Hospital and a doctor working there, using information provided by a top hero's eldest son, miraculously found years after his supposed death. The aforementioned hero will be on the mission, but his new intern, working with him for a time as a way to keep a vigilantism charge off her rap sheet, will be staying behind.)

Time moves on. Izuku trains with his new classmates, and Reina attends a local high school, with bullies still trying to target her but getting turned away by her lack of reactions. (Once, someone tries to trip her as she's walking. Long-unused instincts kick in, and she finds herself pinning the offender to the ground. The bullying starts to die down after that, as her classmates gain a sense of respect for her.)

She notices her father is being mentioned for often lately, and even briefly sees a piece of a news headline reading "ENDEAVOR'S SON", so she avoids the news as best she can. She doesn't want to know what people are saying about Todoroki Shouto.

(In Central Hospital, a former small-time villain who was a key part in the takedown of All for One and his operations lies severely burnt, doctors warning he may die of his wounds, new and old. Pro Hero Endeavor, indebted to the man in more ways than one, funds massive research into the remains of Dr. Ujiko's projects to try to save him. This would be the third time he loses a son, but who's counting?)

Reina starts dating Izuku, after many months of doing so in all but name. She admits her past of being a boy to him, though not the specifics. He's shocked, but accepting. He assures her that even if she goes back to being a boy, whether by chance or by choice, they can keep dating. For the first time in many many years, she cries tears of joy. (Izuku's last tears of joy were that morning, when he saw her smiling after eating a cinnamon roll.)

Izuku starts doing better in class and gaining his footing as a hero-in-training, to mixed emotions from her. She's glad for him, but there's still a part of her that wants to be a hero as well. But with her secret identity and her extremely unique quirk, that's not really possible.

One day, she decides to tell Izuku who she really is. Her whole past, everything. He listens silently, but when she touches on Touya's death, he interrupts.

"Umm, he's not dead though? He was in the news and everything. Last I heard, he was doing well recovering in the hospital..."

Reina catches up on what's been going on with Endeavor since she left. She doesn't really want to speak with him, but she does want to see Touya. And, she realizes, her other siblings as well.

And her mother, terrified as she is just thinking of putting herself before the mother she hasn't seen in over a decade.

So, with reassurances from Izuku and his mom, she does what she knows she needs to do sooner or later.

She washes the dye out of her hair, puts on her favorite turtleneck sweater, and approaches the Todoroki mansion for a visit.

Coming out as trans to bakugo (FtM)

You and Bakugo were in elementary school together

He quickly, and for an unknown reason, attached himself to you

Nobody could touch you and if someone tried to befriend you and go over somewhere else? No, he wouldnt let them

You would wander around with his group by his side as he practically dragged you through the park doing everything together

You never minded following him, never a dull moment with his loud proclamations of being the best and how awesome All Might is

He absolutely hated Midoriya because he tried to be friends with you and him

Bakugo would always shew him away but he never seemed to leave

You would try to defend him because Bakugo never wanted to hurt you so he would just storm off and you would have to run after him until he felt better, returning to swing on the swings together

Mitski adored you, always talking about how you were such a cute girl, dressing you and Bakugo up in dressed and suits together

As you both got older, maybe 10 and 11 Bakugo found out that you never really liked the dresses so he demanded that she stop

In middle school he would make sure to always be by your side because he knew that you didnt like being left with the other students

You made it into UA together and were always together still

You cut your hair and did the UA paperwork yourself making sure to write the he/him pronouns and your preferred name

You knew that you would have to tell Katsuki, him demanding you call him by his first name a couple years back but you could never bring yourself to hear your first name from people

One night you call him and ask if he wants to go shopping the next day in preparation for UA

You walk through the large doors into the busy mall

Katsuki was sitting by the fountain and you approached him

"hey kit kat", he just looks over at you raising one eyebrow

"You say that every time", you chuckle "so hey could we go to the store with hair dye and pins?", you ask in anticipation

He agrees and you make your way through the busy halls

Picking out the hair dyes and moving over to the pins, you pick up the trans flag pin and the he/him pronouns pin

Gently placing them on the counter Katsuki goes to pay, looking down to hand them back to you when he pauses

He picks them up slowly and turns to you, staring at the floor with teary eyes

He takes your face in his hand then he moves it to take your hand as you walk out the store together

"So... what do you want me to call you..." He asks quietly as you sit on a bench in a quieter corner of the mall

"y/n...", you say quietly

"y/n...", he repeats and you look up smiling a little

"fuckin knew it..", he mumbles as he stares at you softly

"really?" you reply confused

"well yeah, remember when we were 9 and you cut your hair short and came to me crying because you hated those dresses that my mom made for us?" he says, rubbing his thumb on the back of your hand gently

You chuckle at the memory with him, "yeah"

"you want knew clothes and boba?" he raises his eyebrows slightly as he stands up knowingly

You look up at him, wiping your eyes, "yeah"

When the time came to go to class at UA Katsuki made sure NOBODY called you the wrong name, especially Izuku

When you were in the changing rooms he would always make sure nobody looked at you or demanded they let you use the only cubical

You slowly came out to the class with Katsuki quietly cheering you on in his head

You talked to Aizawa about it first and of course he had already found out or took it well, having had trans students before he talked to you about whatever problems you had and comforting you with his hand on you head

It was always about people not being acceptant, your family or the class but he would always make you know that everything will be okay because he would make sure of it

People like Jirou and Kirishima were the next people you came out to, slowly spreading to the whole Bakusquad, and then to the girls and other friends, and then to the rest of the class

Iida was difficult, not understanding why and mis-gendering you on one or two occasions but with plenty of reprimanding from Bakugo and Aizawa, he got it eventually

Mineta was also annoying as he started trying to perv on you whilst you were changing so you were given a whole different space to change away from everyone

Katsuki was always there, backing you up and beating up people that didnt take it too well until they got it right again

Eventually everything settled and everything was okay <3
