The spanish version changed the punchline because it wouldn't work and it says: ''You can call me anything except ''my love'' Ha, ha! I'm joking! everyone loves me!''
Also, ''But my aim is getting better'' joke doesn't work either so they changed it like this:
Bill: ''I'm your favorite mistake''
Ford: ''I know I've failed in the past... But my shot is improving'
''Fail'' and ''miss'' are the same in shooting context but not in ''I miss you'' affectionate context (that's ''extrañar'' -- ''Yo te extraño'')
In spanish is ''tiro''(shot) refering to ''puntería''(aim) which it's the basically same but ''shot'' sounds stronger and, fun fact, in the lake episode they translated the joke as:
''My wife still wants me.... Yeah, she still wants to punch me!''

Not me adding annotations to a book to make it more accessible for my mom when she will read it
#i am once again complaining about italian translators not adding enough context and explainations in queer non fiction books#90% of non queer people or people who do not speak english don't have enough fucking context to get certain things#i need tranlators to add the necessary context to make these books accessible for everyone#olay surely mainly queer people will read a book about going outside the binary but if we want more people to understand us#we need to add the necessary context to make these things comprehensible to everyone#both those who do not have a queer background and therefore have never see certain words and those who do not speak any english#why the fuck are we assuminng everyone reading this knows english and the linguistic and cultural context between certain words#most people i know do not know one word on english and since it's an italian translation you should make it completly accessible for anyone#i don't want people to read this with their phone in their hands to look for meaninga here and there#i have had this complaint before and i will keep complaining#it's frustrating because this book makes the concept of going outside the binary very easy and accessible and the translation is not as good#also the translation of this particular chapter did a terrible job language wise too so i can't expect much#the concept is there but oh boy do a few sentences look like they have been translated with google#so yep i resorted to making my own notes because i want my mom to read this and understand it without here needing to ask me for context#i mean i want conversations to start but not because of translation reasons if you know what i mean#and it would be very unmotivating to read a book that has too many words you don't know bc the translator took things for grated#cris speaks#i am done complaining for now#the og book is super good tho i am happy i am reading it again after so many years#the---hermit

Finally I have some time to re read trigun for the bookclub! I don't have much to add to other wonderful posts already in the tags, but there are some interesting translation changes in my language when compared to other versions
The first change that I noticed was that plants got translated as generators, making them sound more like things than living, sentient beings. It's also more in line of what I was thinking when I started Trigun 98, but the Lost July episode made me go "Hoooookay"
I wonder if the translation would change over time if Trimax also got released here
Vash being actually bummed out that the ladies leave him alone because he's too drunk
Rem's name also got changed a little bit, but when it's said out loud it sounds almost the same as "Saverem". Small change, but I always interpreted her last name actually being a product of Vash's mind, desperately trying to keep her ideals alive, and that he never actually knew her full name
And after Milly and Meryl see his scars, Vash says that he doesn't show them to anyone, because he wouldn't be able to play the cutie anymore
Wolfwood, my beloved, says "Lord, your sheep pen is full of muttonheads". I love how his lines got translated but this one won my heart completely
On another note, I had completely forgotten there's rain on the planet, but I guess the clouds on some panels should have made me predict it
Overall I like the translation, it's pretty close to both Overhaul's and Dark Horse's translations (if my memory serves right), but sometimes it feels forcefully stylized. Though I love the voice it gave to wolfwood, vsry fitting mannerisms in speech. I'm not biased at all
#trigunbookclub#also this edition is a very big brick that I adore#because the details are so nicely visible#but the tranlators should have allowed them to say at least one actual swear word!!!
