i’m like a third of the way into tress of the emerald sea but it’s such a fun book actually i’m lying i’m about to reach the halfway point now that i had a good look instead of trying to do maths in my head (always a bad idea) and i haven’t had this much fun following a fantasy adventure/quest in a while. i don’t remember the heathen who i heard call this “cosy fantasy�� but i wish we could remove the world cosy from everyone’s vocabulary until they learn what it means but it’s definitely not cosy in the same way as stardust (the movie) isn’t cosy. it’s an ADVENTURE! fun and relatively low stake as far as the fate of the world and i guess several other solar systems are concerned but not cosy. good fantasy summer book! will come back with the definitive review tomorrow

I think it's so funny how we named the act of illegally downloading copies of copyrighted material after piracy, as if every time you torrented a movie, the studio et al just lost that movie forever. it disappears from cinemas mid-screening and the clock starts, you can only hope you finish watching it before they track you down to take the movie back

also it kinda makes no sense to push the idea that leopardstar was this pariah outcast bc her mom died when she was born when TPB had her as like this vain and brutal person who commits war crimes and violence and shit while being a Girlboss or something crookedstar’s promise furthers that by saying her mother dying made everyone spoil her and put the idea in her head that she was special and couldnt do wrong. i know writing antagonistic protagonists that genuinely fuck up bc theyre bad people and have to work to earn everyone’s trust back makes the erins scream and cry and throw up and everyone has to be a sympathetic baby who was bullied and outcast and thats why they do war crimes now but yknow they could at least shake it up a bit
