I think I can say that I'm scared to live. I'm fearful of what I have gone through and what I may go through in the future. I am making a decision so aggressively out of my comfort zone. My whole body feels laced and lathered with fear. I am angry because I want to succeed. I want security, and I want to feel protected and at peace with my life. I feel scared because, along with this decision, I face limitations, bias, and prejudice, and I may have to constantly prove myself to those around me. I will have to reconstruct myself in such a way that I become unrecognizable to how I am now. In a way, that's a good thing. The person I want to become will be at my reach instead of something I dream about. I'm scared because the journey is isolating. I will have to advocate for myself more than I'm comfortable with, and as I take this step, I feel more empathy with my own relatives. I always understood their struggles and their resilience to overcoming their hardships, but now that I have to start. Take that leap towards something this unfamiliar, something so foreign with the possibility that every turn could be a blessing or threat; my heart , my soul, and my being are filled with admiration and anguish. What I face is nothing compared to them but my family, the kindest, strongest , smartest and most hard working people I know, must've dealt with so much against them, alone in a place meant to have them fail at every turn. A big part of me wants to scream, cry, and run for the hills out of fear. As I write this, I choke back the tears, blinding my vision, dropping on the keys , and making typing, slippery, and difficult. I'm so afraid, my body shivers. I feel as my skin prickles, goosebumps ever present, and my nerves spiking at the thought of having to take this step. I try to imagine the result, but it's so vague and so far from here that I can't conjure any vision of how the future will look like . And I tell you in my current situation, I face a nag next to my ear , a threat in the form of authority. I want to burn this bridge to the extent that even the thought of me plagues fear in their hearts. I want them to regret ever making me feel this way, and really, I hope that whatever they think or feel about me is overpowered by my success. I haven't taken that first step yet, but that date is coming soon, and as each second tics, I feel fear, but most of all, I feel excitement. After all, I'm pursuing the one thing they want me to believe is impossible to reach. The thought of having the possibility of proving these people wrong and, most importantly, proving to myself that I can surpass feels bad, to be honest it feels awful because it's a mixture of emotions I'm feeling at the moment. I feel neutral and kind of tired as crying takes a lot out of me. I hope and desire my future self to read this entry and may laugh at how silly my current fears are. That I get that feeling of reassurance that maybe this all will be worth it.

Blog Post - 1/2/23: Happy New Year!
Hey there, and happy 2023! I've made a resolution this year to put some effort into my online presence, particularly when it comes to my OOAK portfolio. In the past, I've just shared the occasional photo wherever, but I love my artwork, and I think it's high time I started sharing it properly. So join me on my journey of portfolio building and toy customizing!
Since this blog is something of a ghost, I'd better give a proper introduction. I go by Heelys, I use she/her pronouns, and I've been on the customizing scene since late 2019. I've been aware of doll customizing since childhood, and like many other people, was given the final push to give it a whirl by artists like Dollightful on Youtube. My preferred mediums are Monster High dolls and first generation My Little Pony toys.
Portfolio Goals
My goal for this year is to set up a genuine online presence for my work. This tumblr is what I've got for now, but my heart is set on a true website. Growing up in the early 2000s, I thrived on the treasures of MLP collectors' websites. My first exposure to customizing came from these personally cultivated galleries, and while the days of Angelfire are far behind us, there are plenty of resources out there for me to stake my claim on the web. Instagram and such are fine, of course, but I'd like to set up my own space.
I'm going to have to decide on a name for the page, of course. I love my feelysonheelys handle, but given how it's derived from an existing brand, I've been thinking about changing my professional online image. Well, "professional" might be a stretch, but you understand what I mean. I gotta work on branding.
Pony Plans!
Let's talk about my current plans for my next custom! I'm still in the loosey-goosey stages of visualizing, but I've been struck by an idea that I'm just in love with. I want to make a jawbreaker pony! The colorful paint splatters against a white surface, with areas of worn-down candy showcasing colorful layers... it really gets my imagination flowing.
My two candidates (or candy-dates?) from my bait box are Sugarberry and Brush 'n' Grow Bouquet. I'm leaning toward the latter, as a unicorn horn gives me more to work with, but she's got a lot of little bonus features for me to work around. For one, she has "highlighter staining" that creme sunfading hasn't been able to fully remove. The most prominent staining is where her symbol used to be, as the bright paint of the sun hat has permanently stained the vinyl, but she's got some discoloration in her mane area as well. All of that fluorescent hair left a bit of a halo.
Bouquet's other caveat is her rooting pattern. Most ponies have two or two and a half rows of hair plugs for their manes, but as a Brush N Grow pony, Bouquet has four. That's a lot of real estate! I don't have a very hair-centric design in mind for the jawbreaker pony, and frankly, I'm much better at the paint job than I am at styling hair. We'll just have to figure all that out as planning continues.

I Can’t Remember
Word count: 772 Character: Laddie Summary: Laddie couldn’t remember, at least not in great detail, about the summer of ‘87. Then again, he was barely eight-years-old, so that was expected. However, some vague memories lingered — little foggy recollections and small snippets. Yet, no matter how many times he would ask Star, she would never share what she remembered. To her, it was a nightmare, a moment in life that was meant to be forgotten. All the while, Laddie wished he could know more. He wanted to understand why he felt a sense of loss. He could faintly recall being hungry sometimes, of being cold and feeling uneasy. Despite that, there was laughter and dancing — of carnival food and a sense of family. Could it have been as bad as Star made it out to seem?
The motorcycle came to a stop near the bluffs. The sounds of waves crashing against rocks reaching Laddie’s ears as he shut the engine off and removed his helmet. He looked to the fence decorated with warning signs while contemplating if he made the right choice. Star would have been beyond pissed at him if she knew he was back in Santa Carla, at Hudson’s Bluff.
Converses scrapped against the uneven terrain as he walked to the stairs, gaze set uneasily on the rickety wooden steps. The thought of falling through them enough to will most away, but Laddie lifted his chin and pushed onward. After all, he didn’t drive over eight-hundred and sixty-four miles to go back now.
One step at a time, Laddie made his way down and into the dark gaping mouth, clicking the flashlight on while gradually stepped into the darkness. The cool breeze ran through his clothes as the granite walls brushed past his palms. It was eerie — vacant. A pull at his mind told him music should be playing, filling the void with boisterous laughter. Yet, all that greeted him was a moldy, dusty covered living space.
With each step, he ventured further inside, fingers trailing over sun-bleached wood. The light in the room was beaming through cracks in holes, making it easier to see. Laddie stopped at the cracked fountain where an equally broken chandelier nestled within it. Worn-down candles decorated the lip and branching limbs of iron, long forgotten and coated in spider webs. He stared at it, memories like unsteady waves trying to push forward — the tide not yet strong enough to amplify anything.
Laddie shifted his attention to the torn tapestries, cracked and discolored paintings, then his gaze fell upon the corner of a bed hidden behind curtains. He made his way over and pulled it back, revealing clothes strewed about and items left behind. It all looked like something frozen in time, and his mind kept pushing to remember. Even as he lifted a raggedy stuffed bear, thumb brushing over what once could have been soft textures, Laddie only saw flashes of smiles and neon lights. Maybe the bear came from the boardwalk, won by playing a game that lined the area. He didn’t know.
He pushed the toy under his arm and turned toward the fountain again, eyes lingering on broken bottles and discarded books. That is when he landed on an outdated radio, a BoomBox — a Rocker Box. The title came to him as quickly as it faded. Crouching down, Laddie dusted off the poor old thing, wondering how no one had hijacked it by now. Maybe it was true that hardly anyone knew about this place. Sure, people knew of Hudson’s Bluff, but not of the cave hidden within it.
“Wonder if it still works?” He muttered, fingers scraping the buttons clean. No doubt it needed batteries — the pair inside long since dead.
Laddie picked the radio up, teddy bear nestled on top, and made his way to the lip of the cave once more, then paused. He wondered why Star avoided this place with a final look back — why she was committed to never returning to cozy, Santa Carla. He stared at the rickety old wheelchair that seemed bathed in sunlight, right beneath the largest hole in the ceiling, and let out a sigh.
He might not remember the time spent here with any great detail, but Laddie knew something significant happened — that there was importance still here, and that the items he held had meaning, value, and memories.
“Goodbye,” the soft sound seemed to resonate through the cave, mixing with the wet sound of water dripping and wind whistling further inside. One step at a time, Laddie made his way back out of the cave, mid-day light casting over him.

@liftedrelics ━━━━━ plotted starter
Milky sunlight does little to dissipate the thick fog which swirls between trunks of stood birch and fir. A wet earth stench hangs in the air and fills up Jean’s lungs with air that feels far too heavy. Green eyes sweep over this full grey landscape with diligence, even if there isn’t much to look at. Her boots sound strangely muffled in this miasma, which is sluggishly claiming its fourth straight day. She misses the sun. Warmth that teasers just beyond the grasp of this clammy mist, which doesn’t seem to have the courage to become rain. Remembering the tear in her poncho, Jean is ruefully thankful that it hasn’t started to rain, even if the weirdly shifting gloom plucks at her nerves like an excited harp soloist.
Adjusting the strap across her chest that keeps a well used M14 carbine close, Jean bites the inside of her cheek when the weapon jabs none too gently into a still healing bruised rib. Breathing shallowly while she grapples with the sudden radiation pain, the woman pauses on the shoulder of the abandoned two-lane road. Boots sinking into the loamy soil Jean very gingerly adjusts the weapon again, easing a gloved hand against her injury. Murky snapshots of a crazed near-feral face blur in her mind’s eye, the shark crack of their pipe wrench catching her shoulder first, then cracking into the ribs. Her side throbs in response to the thought. The woman hadn’t stopped walking since then.
Finally ebbing to something manageable, Jean lets out a long breath that only serves to make the wound flare hotly once more. Glancing through the perpetual twilight of the fog, she blinks, lingering images of a face flecked in gore after being bashed in with a wrench out of her memories. One more to add to a growing list of waking nightmares who fall somewhere in the realm of self-defense but don’t fall far enough so she can outrun them. Made glaringly evident by the fact that she’s currently standing in a soft berm, praying those ribs aren’t broken.
Something shifts in the brush to Jean’s right. A slow, ponderous movement of a heavy body moving over molding leaves and wet earth, made all the more apparent by the sudden lack of every other sound. Birds, wind, even the whisper of the mist seems to hold it’s breath. Jean reaches for her hatchet first by taking a step back from the dead shrubs and creeping ivy of the forest edge. This pregnant silence too much to be shattered by a gunshot. From experience, that kind of noise only brings on unwanted attention. Smooth wooden handle wrapped now in several layers of peeling hockey tape for grip, the weight of the tool soothes only a fraction of the unease which sits high in the woman’s chest. Seconds drag—anticipation mounting over its self doubling tripling before collapsing and building anew.
Then nothing happens. No rotting corpse shuffles free from the tree line, teeth gnashing eagerly in the expectation of its next meal. Silence from all around sighs out in a palpable relief, sound bleeding back into the world around her. Slotting her hatchet back into its leather loop affixed to the woman’s him, Jean gives on last precursory sweep of the unchanged gray soup of landscape around her. Whatever shuffled past in the brush must have thought better or simply seemed this moment incorrect. Not daring to give too much thought in line with the walkers now having the where with all to hunt their prey intelligently, Jean shivers before moving on.
Pulling with perturbed anxiousness at the open folds of her worn brown construction jacket Jean coaxes a nearly broken zipper closed against the fog’s damp cold. Progressing further up this pothole marred country highway, a turn off meanders away from the main road. Leaning lamely to one side, a dented and rust eaten mailbox hands with a broken jaw. Its little red flag is missing. What patchy glimpses she can see through the shifting mist show Jean a winding driveway littered with every manner of natural debris.
And a corpse.
Even from where she stands, Jean can see jagged ribs protruding from the prone figure, who looks more like a discarded doll. Mouth pressing into a thin line, she proceeds forward up the driveway. Hatches once again warming the woman’s grip just in case.
A halo of long dried blood stains the asphalt black around the badly broken body. Thankfully mild autumn temperatures have made decay slow, keeping what would be a debilitating stench down to something more like a butcher’s freezer. This kill is old regardless. Buzzards and walkers alike picking their fill and leaving a gummy skin shell barely clinking to shattered bones. Jean frowns, setting what looks to be the tattered remains of a heavily stained dress in pieces around the body.
Directing attention from the body up the drive, the blonde’s frown deepens as that ever waning spark of optimism wriggles to the forefront of her mind. A house. Its long L-shaped wrap around porch peeking through the teeth of trees. Peeling dove grey paint covers most of the siding still, and the roof looks intact from what Jean can see. All of the windows are unboarded and unbroken but hold that dull dead-eyed stare of dusty abandonment. Jean spots a singular windchime swaying in the breeze, not strong enough to elicit a sound. Stepping respectfully around the corpse, she continues toward the house and into an expansive front yard.
A suitcase is discarded in a ditch beside the main drive that opens up to form a small gravel parking area. Dirty clothing is scattered around the open suitcase like entrails. Children’s toys lay cast aside around the wide yard, their dirty disrepair making something within Jean’s chest tighten. You don’t’ see too many children around anymore.
Approaching a set of sagging steps up to the screen storm door, she spots the first signs of wrongness. Smeared across the porch like a welcome mat is the thick, gummy remains of spilled blood. A lot of blood. Turning slowly to follow the meandering drag marks, Jean notices it disappear around the corner to the side of the house. Hatchet still in hand, she follows, bracing for the worse. What the woman finds is a pair of legs clad in heavily discolored denim and wearing one hiking boot propped up against the side of the house as if it’s merely waiting for its torso to return any moment. Around it is a spectacular splash of aged, dried gore, along with another dragging trail that leads off into the backyard. Mentally noting that there is probably half of a zombie crawling around the backyard, Jean returns to the front door. Determined to get out of the damp cold and rapidly approaching night, the woman holsters the hatchet. Pulling the storm door open and wincing at screaming rusted hinges, she throws a quick prayer out before trying the handle.
Unlocked.
Swinging inward much quieter than the first door, Jean is left squinting into a dark, gloomy front hall. Dust dulls its wooden floors and numerous picture frames that line the wallpapered walls. Shoes still sit near the door waiting for long-dead owners, and a winter coat is thrown at the bottom of the stairs. There doesn’t seem to be any blood or chaos in the front hall, which stretches to the kitchen and subsequent back door. One more scan of the murky, quickly darkening fog hemming in an overgrown forest and lawn, Jean steps inside the house and lets the doors close behind her.

My Girl(s)
Keanu Reeves x Reader (requested) {A/n- the book referred to and quoted is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett (1911). It’s been years since I’ve read it but there’s a site that offers the entire book for free (and that’s where I got the line)}
Days like these were rare. School was out for summer vacation, Keanu and Y/n had decided to sleep in, taking advantage of the month they had taken off to spend with Charlotte, their daughter. The sun was peeking through the heavy curtains of their bedroom, there was no set alarm, no obligations, nothing. Hopefully, nothing could begin a little after mid morning. But when you have a five year old in the house, sleeping in was a dream (ironic huh?), sometimes a distant memory. Y/n was on her stomach, half laying on Keanu, with an arm thrown across his chest. He had an arm under her, curled around her waist. They slept peacefully, blissfully unaware of what was next.
What was next’ being a tiny body flinging themselves onto Keanu’s chest and Y/n’s back. “Daddy!” She giggled, poking his cheek as his eyes slipped open. Y/n groaned quietly, shimming out from under Charlotte, making room for her between them. Keanu was also sitting up, lifting Charlotte of him with ease, seating her in the middle.
“Good morning to you too Charley,” Y/n laughed pressing a kiss to her head.
“Good morning mommy,” Charlotte kissed her mother’s cheek in return, trying to wrap her in a hug.
“Don’t I get a good morning? From anybody?” Keanu pretended to pout, exaggerating the gesture when Charlotte looked up at him with eyes that closely reflected his. She had gotten so much from him, it was always made Y/n feel fuzzy inside, and proud that she had been convincing enough to persuade Keanu to name their daughter after him.
“Good morning daddy!” Charlotte jumped into his lap again, throwing her tiny arms around his neck.
Keanu hugged her back and then Y/n greeted him, “Good morning babe,” They kissed briefly before receiving loud disapproval from their daughter.
Almost bouncing in his lap, Charlotte tangled her little fingers in Keanu’s hair as she spoke next, “Daddy?” He replied with a content hum, throwing an arm around Y/n’s shoulders to pull her closer, “Do you know that you snore?”
Y/n stifled a laugh and Keanu’s mouth fell open, “And how do you know that?”
“Because I heard you when I came in.” Charlotte continued playing with his hair for a minute before stopping to point a warning finger, “You should stop else you’ll wake mommy.”
Keanu turned his confused, perfectly shocked stare to Y/n who shrugged sympathetically, still trying not to laugh. “So mommy doesn’t snore?” He asked, feeling incriminated.
“Nope, she sleeps like a quiet princess.” Charlotte mused. “You sleep like...” She proceeded to give a poor, yet absolutely adorable reenactment of his snores.
After the giggles died down and Y/n and quietly reassured Keanu that the snoring never really bothered her, she announced, “Why don’t we go get breakfast?” Y/n stood from the bed, throwing her robe over her flimsy lace night gown.
“Can we have waffles mommy? With chocolate chips? Please,” Charlotte pouted.
“Please,” Keanu chimed in, pouting too, though Charlotte was arguably cuter, being tiny and all.
“Well since I’m already out numbered, I guess its chocolate chip waffles. Now go brush your teeth.” Y/n made shooing motions with her hands.
“Alright, you heard the boss.” Keanu smiled. scooping Charlotte up in his arms, taking her to get her ready for breakfast.
Y/n lingered in the master bath for a while then hurried down to the kitchen to get started on breakfast. She mixed batter, got the iron heated and started coffee before Keanu and Charlotte came downstairs. He got her set up at the kitchen table with orange juice and a plated a few waffles for her, then helped Y/n with the rest. Pulling his chair close to Y/n, he whispered into her ear, “Did you sneak berries into a couple of these?”
“Maybe. There might also be a banana in the mix” Y/n giggled quietly, when she glanced up Charlotte, it didn't even look like she had noticed.
Remembering their daughter’s ongoing phase of hating every fruit besides grapes for some reason, Keanu smiled, shaking his head, “You are motherhood gold,” he leaned in to kiss her.
“Thank you.” Y/n kissed him again, blushing, “You aren’t so bad yourself, I mean, you got her to put her mermaid blanket in the wash. Not a lot of people can say that.” Y/n reminded him of the incident form no longer than a week ago when Charlotte, despite her favorite blanket being absolutely filthy, going from light pink to discolored brown, wouldn’t surrender it to the laundry hamper, opting to take it everywhere. Though after a very long talk, Keanu had managed to do convince her give it up, something Y/n had been trying to do for weeks.
After breakfast, the three of them sat in front of the television, Y/n cuddled to Keanu while Charlotte played with some toys on the floor. For a while cartoons played, though at after lunch the string of child entrainment had died down and almost every channel was playing a cringe worthy soap opera or a daytime talk show. Charlotte soon became visibly bored, “Can we play in the pool?”
Keanu put his hand on his chin as if he were thinking hard about it and then turned to Y/n, “What do you think honey, is today a pool day?”
“I think today is definitely a pool day.” Y/n agreed and Charlotte jumped up, beaming with excitement. Before Y/n could say anything further, Charlotte had already made a dash for the stairs to change into her swim suit. “Do you need any help?” Y/n called, knowing that she was probably half way up the stairs.
It took a few minutes before she yelled back, “No!”
Huffing, Y/n leaned back into the sofa, frown unmistakable. And not a cute, half frown like the one her husband had worn when Charlotte forgot to give him his good morning hug, no, this was a real frown with real sadness. “What’s wrong?” Keanu asked using his pointer and middle finger to gently turn her face to his.
“She doesn’t need me anymore.” Y/n sighed. She knew that it was normal for children to start testing their independence at Charlotte’s age and she never expected her to continue being the little girl who needed her mother to do everything for her, but lately, every time Charlotte wanted to do something on her own, Y/n couldn’t help but feel proud at first then extremely displaced.
“What are you talking about?” Keanu squeezed her shoulders affectionately, “Charley needs you for lots of things. She still needs you to do her hair, pick out clothes for school...” He continued to list a slew of other things that their daughter still needed Y/n for.
Sighing, she shook her head, knowing that her feelings were ridiculous, “I know. But remember when we went on vacation last year? And she couldn’t put on her swim suit and she was so excited for me to help her. Now, she’s tying her own shoe laces, putting on that adorable little tutu swim suit on her own. She’s not a baby anymore. And one day she won’t need me for everything else.”
Keanu hugged Y/n closer, “Come on, she’ll always need her mommy.” He kissed her hair reassuringly, “Besides, if Charley doesn't need help with her swim suit, that just means you’re available to help me with mine.”
Y/n couldn’t help but giggle at his words as they finally pulled themselves off the couch to head to their bedroom to change.
Not long after, Y/n was lounging on a deck chair, watching as Keanu carried Charlotte on his shoulders as she splashed the water around them. He was always so good with her. Even before Charlotte was born, Y/n knew that Keanu was going to be a great father, loving, attentive and bucket loads of fun. Seeing him like this seemed so natural, it almost made her feel....What was the word? Broody.
“Come on mommy! Come play!” Charlotte yelled breaking Y/n out of her thoughts, her voice shaking with laughter as Keanu dipped unexpectedly, pulling her little further into the water.
Tossing her sunglasses aside and undoing her sarong, Y/n smiled, “Coming!” She cast aside her flip flops and hurried over to the pool. The water was cool, perfect for subduing the effects of the Los Angeles heat. Lazily, she swam over to them, stopping when she was in front of Keanu. With one hand still holding Charlotte's feet secure around his neck, he snaked the other around Y/n, “Finally my two favorite girls are here,” he smiled.
After that, it didn’t take long for Charlotte make her way into Y/n’s arms and start up a splash war. The teams were girls against guys. Or in other words, Y/n and Charlotte sending waves Keanu’s way until he admitted defeat, “Okay! Okay!” He held his hands up in surrender, still laughing despite his apparent failure.
“Charley, you know what that means?” Y/n asked and the two shared a knowing look.
“We win!” Charlotte exclaimed, throwing her arms in the air. What followed was far more friendly splashing and then Charlotte showing off what she had learnt at swimming lessons by paddling between her adoring parents. “Can we have ice cream?” She eventually asked, eyes hopeful. Knowing that she probably wouldn’t have the heart to tell Charlotte no if necessary, Y/n turned her gaze to Keanu. Noticing this, Charlotte looked to him, “Please daddy?”
Doing his best not to cave right then and there, Keanu swam to the steps of the pool, “Maybe we should check the time first.” Y/n leaned against the edge, still holding Charley, silently admiring her husband as the muscles in his back flexed when he passed his hands through his hair. Glancing at his phone, “ You can have ice cream, but just one scoop and then we have to go inside, its getting late.”
After ice cream, came drying up and preparing for dinner, which was either usually a trying task or incredibly fun. Thankfully, that night, it was fun. The menu was Charlotte’s favorite, spaghetti. When that was over, the three sat in front of the television again, watching a popular children’s movie.
When it was time for Charlotte to start getting ready for bed, Y/n had gone upstairs with her while Keanu stayed behind, clearing random toys from the floor, returning them to Charlotte’s little playroom. Y/n had told him that she would do it after bath time, but Keanu knew that above everything else, it was the little things that she appreciated the most. When he was finished, it was just in time to double check the locks and windows before having a quick shower and then heading to Charlotte’s room for story time.
“Aright kiddo, what should we read tonight?” Keanu was kneeling at the little castle shaped bookcase in her room, as she stood next to him, excitedly looking at the selection of books. Of all the books at her disposal, Charlotte ended up picking The Secret Garden. Keanu smiled at her choice, knowing that the book probably was put there by his wife who shares his love for literature, with a special interest classics. Surely, he knew that Charlotte couldn’t actually read the book herself, but if she’s anything like her mother, she would enjoy it.
Quietly, Keanu read the book to Charlotte who was laying on the bed, wedged to his side, his left arm wrapped around her tiny shoulders. Out of the corner of his eye, Keanu could see her fighting to stay awake, “It was plain that there was not a great deal of strength in Mistress Mary’s arms and legs when she first began to skip. She was not very clever at it but she liked it so much that she did not want to stop.”
He continued until he found that Charlotte had finally surrendered to sleep. Keanu brushed a couple rouge dark strands from her face, and turned on the little cloud shaped night light at her bedside. Then, he gently eased himself of the bed, and turned off the main light on his way out.
In their room, Y/n was sitting at her vanity, rubbing lotion into her hands. Her hair was already brushed and she donned a short silk night gown. She smiled as he sauntered in, his eyes tired from reading for so long. “It sounds nice when you read to her,” Y/n stated, a soft smile playing at her lips.
“I love reading to her,” Keanu returned as Y/n made her way over to him. His arms wrapped around her. “ I love you,” he says, pressing a sweet kiss to her lips.
Y/n smiles against his lips, lacing her fingers in his hair, almost melting into his embrace. Even though they had been married for years, together for longer, every moment spent with him always gave her the rush of the first. Every kiss just as passionate and loving, every touch just as tender. “I love you too.”
Breaking for a minute, Keanu tugged her towards the bed where they sat, bringing the comforter over their legs. “I had an idea,” his eyes were lit with contagious excitement and he clasped her hands.
“What?” Y/n giggled, wondering what he could have possible had time to think of.
“Lets have another baby.” Just like that, the words tumbled out of Keanu’s mouth and he held his breath for Y/n’s response.
Y/n’s mouth feel open and quickly morphed into a wide smile. It was like he read her mind. “Are you being serious?”
“100 percent babe. Come one, you said it yourself, Charley is growing up so fast. Think about all the baby cuddles you could have whenever you wanted. She could have a little brother or sister to play with. It’ll be great.”
Y/n hummed in thought even though she actually wanted to just jump in his lap screaming ‘yes’. “I guess you’re right,” she chuckled, “and seeing you two together does make me wish we had more. Maybe we might get a little boy,” Y/n mused quietly.
“Is that a yes?” His arms are already going around her waist, pulling her to him.
Y/n tosses a leg to the other side of him, straddling Keanu, “Let’s have another baby!” She exclaimed, quickly regretting it, hoping that she didn’t wake Charlotte.
Keanu’s hands travelled up Y/n nightie, roaming her back, suddenly flipping them over so she was underneath him. Hovering over her, Keanu reached up, flipping the switch, turning of the lights above their bed, kissing her neck, “Why do we get started?” Keanu laughed into Y/n’s neck. Those were the last words that either of them registered that night.

Waiting (Ch. 2/2)
A/N: This is the final part! Thank you for reading, and, as always, please like and reblog! (Added to Masterlist) Read chapter one here.
The sunlight in the room was long gone, replaced now by a single lamp. Your jaw still ached, your left eye was swollen and you assumed purple, and you suspected at least two broken ribs. But none of this distracted you from the pain of your now crippled leg. It had been at least 4 hours since you had been kidnapped. If Steve was coming, he’d be here by now. You had to admit, you did think he’d show up. You had been together for three years and had spent two years previously as close friends.
But when the two of you moved to Washington, his frequent flirting with your neighbor and his frequent missions left you suspicious. It was true: you never felt that you deserved Steve. He was justice personified and a true gentleman. He treated you wonderfully and you were happiest with him. But it was your insecurity that forced you to confront him over nothing and destroy the relationship you had. You called him every name under the sun and accused him of things you knew he would never do. Steve was rightly upset and after your argument, he left your apartment. When he returned, you and all your belongings were gone, as if it were all a dream.
You were ripped from your thoughts when Jonathan and his subordinate returned.
“You ready to sing again, little bird?” As Jonathan spoke, his associate broke the leg of the radiator, leaving you handcuffed, but not pinned down.
“I’m going to kick your ass soon,” You sang to the tune of “O Christmas Tree”, “I’m going to kick your teeth in.”
“What, with that gimp leg you’ve got there?” He nodded to your snapped leg. You traded the smile for a glare.
“I’ve already told you about the places I’d been to. I was located in the D.C. area, so I’ve only been to that Virginia site and the Maryland one.” You had selected facilities that were closet to the Triskellion, hoping that Hydra was already on the verge of discovering these locations. Jonathan sighed and you knew what would come next. You turned to the bigger man, “wait! I don’t know any others! Please!” The sound of automatic gunfire drew the men’s attention to the door as you breathed in relief. Jonathan nodded towards the door and the other man walked out of the room.
“Looks like your boyfriend is here.” The sound of gunfire decreased, and at the sound of familiar footsteps, you closed your eyes and leaned back against the radiator, only to hiss at the pressure applied to your ribs. You were thankful that you weren’t directly in front of the door because suddenly it flew and exploded against the wall. Steve was standing in the doorway. He was in his stealth suit, the one he had worn on most missions. You suddenly wished to feel the material of it under your forearms as you wrapped your hands behind his neck and kissed him. His chest was rising and falling erratically, his breathing staggered.
His eyes flickered over to you. He took in the swollen, bruised eye, the redness on the left side of your jaw, and your discolored, dangling leg. The worry in his expression broke your façade. The tears began to flow freely and you finally allowed yourself to physically acknowledge all of your pain. “Steve.” Your voice cracked through the whisper. But before he could close the distance, Jonathan picked you up from the ground.
“She’s had several ribs broken and some internal bleeding. How much are you willing to bet that when I drop her, one of those ribs don’t puncture her sweet little heart or her pretty little lungs? She’d bleed out pretty quickly, and are you really going to risk her dying just to catch me?”
“Whatever you do, you end up just like your men.” Steve’s voice was even but vicious.
“Let’s see what you’re willing to risk.”
“I’m not risking anything.” Jonathan shrugged his shoulders, raised you higher than his head and threw you down against the floorboards. You didn’t feel your ribs crack as much as hear them. It was an ugly sound that made you cringe and you knew it must have hurt, but your mind was foggy, and you couldn’t really feel anything. You saw a flash of dark navy blue as Steve rushed over to you, but your eyes were closed before you heard him scream your name.
***
The light on your eyelids had started off as peaceful, but now it was harsh, and your throat felt dry and scratchy and swollen and maybe that had something to do with the tube in your throat. Your eyes flew open and soon Steve was peering over you with puffy, red eyes and a relieved smile. He repeated your name several times, but there was no way for you to answer. You knew better than to take the tube out yourself, so you settled for gripping his hand as hard as you could.
“Oh, oh, yeah, the tube. I’ll get a nurse!” He backed away from the bed and ran out of the room. He returned with two nurses and a doctor. After the nurses worked to remove the tube, the doctor began a barrage of tests to assess if there had been any brain damage due to your lack of oxygen. Apparently, after you were thrown on the ground, your ribs had selected to puncture your lungs, rather than any other internal organs. Surgeons were able to fix the perforation, doctors were able to set and cast your leg, and your other relatively minor injuries were tended to by the nurses. You smiled and thanked them, and after more tests were scheduled, you were finally alone with Steve.
“Hi,” you said, watching him move from the back of the room to your side.
“Hi,” he repeated. “You don’t even know how glad I am that you’re okay.”
“I don’t know that this counts as okay,” you motioned to your body, “but I’m alive.”
“Then I’m glad you’re alive,” he said, smiling softly and placing a hand on your bed. You picked it up with both hands.
You looked his hands over, closely, noting the new scars on his fingers. You had told him the fingerless gloves were nice, but not smart. “I didn’t think you were coming.” He stared at you incredulously.
“Why would you think that?” His voice was so soft.
“I said some terrible things to you. And I accused you of even worse,” you laughed, mirthlessly. You dropped his hand and placed yours over your face, covering your eyes. “God, why did you even bother coming anyway?” Steve pulled your hands from your face and forced you to look at him.
“I came because I love you. Everything you said, well, I knew you were stressed with work, and I was gone a lot-”
“Steve, I called you a ‘lying, cheating asshole who had no regard for anyone but himself and who deserved to die alone.’ How can you not be mad?” You deadpanned.
“It’s not that I wasn’t mad, because I was, but then I just missed you. I missed waking up next to you, and coming home to you.” You smiled at the various memories of you welcoming him home. “I wanted to find you, but I just figured you didn’t want to see me.”
“Yeah, well, I was the moron who left.” A moment passed, and you continued to toy with his fingers. “I’m really sorry, Steve. We had a great thing, and I screwed it up because I was scared.”
“Hey,” Steve placed a hand on your face.
“I’m not scared anymore, though.” You placed your hand over his and pulled it away from your face, giving it a squeeze.
“Good to know,” Steve whispered closing the short distance and kissing you softly.
You kept your eyes closed and smiled as he pulled away, not letting go of his hand. “Mm, that was nice.” You opened your eyes and looked at him in confusion, “what happened to Jonathan? Please tell me he didn’t get away.”
“Oh, no, he jumped out of the window, which was a stupid idea because Sam was just outside. He’s at holding facility now.” Steve explained.
“Thank god,” you sighed in relief, “I promised him I’d kick him in the teeth.” Steve closed his eyes and held the bridge of his nose between two fingers.
“Please tell me this,” he gestured to your slowly healing body, “didn’t happen because you riled them on.”
“I mean,” you paused to tuck your hair, defensively, and come up with a reasonable excuse. “They were going to do that anyway, so I might as well have insulted them along the way.”
“Oh my god.” Steve laughed.
“Hey, at least now, you can keep a closer eye on me and stop me from doing anything stupid again!” You exclaimed with a smile.
“Yeah, well I know one way to stop you,” He replied, leaning down to kiss you again.

🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
The flowerbouquet laying beside the door to the small house had dark yellow petals that shimmered like gold in the early morninglight. Hafa looked down on them curiously, the Healer would often put flowers infront of the hemisphere-shaped hut to dry in the sun yet those were different as they were neatly bound to another with a cord, and carefully put before the hut, almost artfully, almost lovingly. In the morning the street was still empty and the orange sunlight from the small, weak burning sun of the system only started to cut through the mist with stark bright streaks like broiling blades. The Duros decided that those flowers had not been put infront of the door to dry by the Healer so she carefuly leaned forward to pick them up- it was a more tedious act than she had expected for bending her knees was hindered by the thick layers of barkbandage the Tynnan had wrapped around the burned flesh until over the knees to not only keep the burns clean while they were healing but to also prevent anything pushing against the wounded legs too hardly and cause Hafa pain. With a huff the Duros slung a long blue arm around the bouquet, the flowers shimmering in the orange light like pieces of jewelery, and then straightened her standing. It needed a little more balancing to hold the flowers in one arm and still continue leaning on her crutch- after all the Healer would scold Hafa when she would risk falling over just to pick up flowers- but after a little work she managed to lean her slim shoulder against the door to press it open and walk inside the small hut.
Inside the hut hung the air so thick and heavy Hafa was sure she would be able to grasp it, if she would just have a hand free. The single room was round and plantpots were put on the walls of thr hut from which were growing ranks like a veneer along the height of the room. The healer was standing by a low table loaded with heatingplates on which where standing several pots. The scent of fresh cut grass and petrichor, like from a forest after a long heavy rain, rose from the bubbling pots. Hafa knocked the end of her crutch against the metaldoor to alert the young Tynnan that she had entered the hut: “Fluffy, somebody left you-” ”Call me Fluffy again and I will rip off your kriffing arms and beat you back on the kriffing gourney you just stood up from -when? A week ago after I had spend two kriffing weeks with you bedridden and halfmad from gangere? Do you want to risk going back there?”, The Tynnan interrupted Hafa without skipping a beat, her ears turning after the Duros voice like the ears of a attentive Lolth-cat, yet she continued to cut the blue ranks she had put on a cuttingboard on the table. Hafa grimaced when her red eyes wandered automatically to the gourney standing at the side of the room- she did not knew exactly how she had felt the two weeks she had spend in the Halers house as she had pushed the memory of pain and fever and sickness hasty at the back of her head like a dity secret but whatever she had expierenced while her legs were rotting away under her, Hafa never wanted to even think about it ever again. She was sure the Tynnan had treated her with the best of her abillities, as after all now Hafa was since one week walking again on her own legs and the flesh on her legs was burned and purple from wounds, but it was healing, yet although she was thankful for this the woman did not wanted to ever spend another night in the Healers house as this would mean she might feel like she had felt when gangere had reached for her mind like a rotten hand. ”Ziv, somebody left-”, the woman started, but was again interrupted. This time the Healers voice was not stern, but almost a little playful with a quit amused melody dancing behind her words. The liquid in the pots smelling of grass and old forests continued to blubber quietly and the Tynnan shoved the cut blue ranks into the nearest pot to boil. ”A kriff closer, but not enough. Try again, please, Hafa.” The Healer was now clearly joking and Hafa rolled her eyes a little: ”-Odiz’Zee. somebody left-” ”Better! Thank you Kriffing much.” ”Just let me finish the damn sentences!”, the Duros huffed. ”Never, I am having too much kriffing fun right now!”; the Healer laughed and leaned her head back, grinning with sharp, carnivorous teeth. Still he Tynnan did not wasted another moment or annoyed Hafa any further, and instead grabbed a few small bowls and then toddled over to Hafa to carefully grab under the other womans arm and help her through the room to the gourney the Duros realized she still did not liked very much. She wondered if she would ever start to like such medical gourneys again or if they would be forever linked to the purple burns where once the flesh of her legs had been. A blue finger as thin and boney as a popsickle pointing to the flowers on her arm as Hafa stopped, standing beside the gourney: ”...someone left you the flowers outside. They are pretty. You happen to have a secret admirer, Odiz’Zee?” Zivs ears twitched, yet she only gave the flowers a short glance before turning back to the Duros. Her red eyes were fixating on Hafa, eyeing the colour of the Duros skin that was pale but yet not so lightly blue or discolored to show any signs of sickness, to the other womans stance that was wobbly but not so weakly as she had been one week ago, only for the Tynnans eyes to end on the bandages on Hafas legs that had turned grey from the dust on the street but had nonthless not askewed. “Oh? Do I hear Jealousy? Don´t worry the only one I am going down on is you.” , a crooked smirk creeped on the Tynnans muzzle as she literally knelt down before Hafa to put down the bowls of herboinment on the floor. Then she carefully broke the resin she had used to stick the pale, thin treepark to the others legs with a sharp claw and remove the worn down bark: “Literally, your bandages need to be changed and after you I am having another patient, so sit the kriff down now.” Hafa tensed a little, pouting almost childishly. She felt like a child refusing to sit down on the gourney, yet she could also not bring herself to just sit down: “I am serious!” The Tynnans ears flicked again and her red eyes shot up to Hafa, ran over her eyes, her face, her tensed stance. There was a sound suddenly cutting through the room and Ziv took a deep sniff, her head tilted to the side like a attentive animal. The next second Ziv reached to the side and grabbed for a stool standing near to shove it beside Hafa: “As am I. Sit the Kriff down, cub!”
A second of quietness slowly sank down on the two women, wrapping around every breath, tensed look and the silent glance Hafa gave the stool. Eventually she sat down carefully, Zivs small paws steadying her arm to lean on. Not wasting a moment the Tynnan knelt down before Hafa again and with nimble paws she took off the layers of bark off the burns that covered the other womans legs and cleaned the burns properly with a stark of vinegar smelling gel. When Ziv had put on the bandages made of bark first she had explained that Voss-bark was producing chemicals in its bark to fend off insects that would bite into the wood to build nests for larves and those chemicals were antiseptic. So the bark, as thin and white as linenbandages, were a proper replacement for clothbandages. Hafa looked down on the flowers now laying in her lap, her thin blue finger stroking ove the petals that were as soft as velvet beneath her fingertips: “Leaving flowers is actually very romantic. They are beautiful. Someone must be thinking about you lovingly...” As a answer the Tynnan chuckled, whiskers flicking in amusement although the smile did showed a little too much sharp teeth to be soothing: “Ha! For you maybe. For me its a stash of new Healing-Herbs that I do not need to collect myself now.” Hafa looked down on the other woman, blinking: “They are healing-plants?”
“No, Not those. Just some kriffing bloomy stuff.”; The Tynnan grabbed for a small bowl and opned it, its scent rose into the air of the small room- earthy and wooden, like the scent of the joinery Hafas father had often sit in to build toys for her. Inside was resin that was as gold as ember and carefully Ziv sticked the new layers of Voss-Bark together on the edges and lightly to the Duros blue skin with resin to fix the bandages in their position and prevent dirt to get to the wound until the bandages would need to be changed again. “Huh?”; Hafa grunted confused, yet Ziv only gifted her with a wink and a sly grin that showed the sharpness of the Tynnans teeth in all their glory. Now with her patient taken care of properly that crooked grin on the young womans muzzle softned a little, just a little, when she eventually stood up again and looked over to the flowers that lay in the low afternoonlight shimmering as if made of gold like precious jewelery. “They are good to heal a bad mood, though. Most flowers are, sometimes even those who kriffing bite.” There was a flicker of loving admiration in the Tynnans eyes, a flicker like she was looking at her favorite piece of art. She had always loved flowers from the second she had been old enough to walk out of the Temples-Céche to visit the Templegardens and even more when she had started to study botany under the Agricorps teaching. Ziv had no good eyes, so when she was told something was beautiful, she could only judge that after she had literally pressed her muzzle against it, yet flowers were colourful even when they had in her eyesight not a certaine form and their scents always stroked around the Tynnans keen nose like a parfume even when the flower itself was plain. Flowers were always beautiful, they were beautiful when not seen as they grew on a far away planet, and they were beauiful when plain and they were beautiful because they simply grew against all odds, despite wars and catastrophes and politics and weather and destruction, to bring more life and beauty in the galaxy. As if the flowers were made of fragile glass Ziv ran gently her callouse fingers over one of the petals- it was soft and cooling beneath her skin as she hummed: “Thankfully this do not bite. Thank you for bringing them in Hafa, they are very beautiful. ”
Suddenly a loud knock cut through the quiet room loud like thunder, Zivs ears jolted promptly up and Hafa almost jumped off the stool. The bouquet of golden flowers dropped rustling to the floor. Before the metaldoor the muffled voice of the patient after Hafa sounded impatient over to them past the happily gurgling inside of the pots on the heatingplates, past the flowerpots, past the gourney and past the golden flowers on the ground. The soft smile on the Tynnans fluffy face dropped and she huffed, stepping beside Hafa to help her sliding off the stool and grab the crutch: “Now get up, get home safely and kriffing favour yourself, I only want to see you back in my care until next week again for another bandage-change.”

Stories For Monday pt. 1/2
Summary: When he- they, came to you that fateful morning, you didn’t know what you were signing up for. Ok-that’s a lie, You did. Hell, everyone saw the headlines: “Steve Rogers and Associates On The Run!” “Has Rogers Turned His Back On the People He Swore To Save?” Ugh, ya know, nothing good comes from watching the news now a days, and everyone’s trying to make a few dollars, even if it’s tearing down another. But Steve Rogers, he was a friend, we’ll sort of. Ok- You didn’t really know him…personally or even met him. Hey! Don’t judge. Anyway, this is my story. And if you’re reading this, it’s become your story too. The story of how you die and everything in between.
Words: 3,254
Warnings: maybe language
A/N- I know I’m a bit rusty
————————————— It began by doing your brother- Sam, a massive favor….
You frowned, lazily gripping the toothbrush, using your freehand to grip the corner of the sink to keep yourself from swaying. You were brushing the taste of liquor and bad decisions out of your mouth from the night before, when you heard the sound of pounding on the front door. “Hold on a min…” You attempt to gurgle out around the foam in your mouth. You move to spit as the knocks become more incisive. Leaning out of the doorway, you look down the hall towards the door. Shuffling softly You grabbed an umbrella before peeking out the peephole. Sam stood arms crossed, wearing multiple layers of clothing. He looks pissed. Rolling your eyes you begin to unlock the door. “Why are you banging on my door Sam? You’ll wake the dead!”
“Looks like I already have!” He laughed clapping his hands together.
“Meeeh!” You mock laying your weight against the door frame.
He calms himself looking around, “Are you gonna make me stand out here or you gonna invite a brotha in?”
“Well I dunno. You gonna behave?”
“Always.” He walks in quickly shutting the door behind him. He turns to face toy without skipping a beat. “Hey why do you have an umbrella? You weren’t gonna hit me with that were you? Awww little sis. Remember honey, umbrellas are for rain.”
“Shut up and talk. I know you’re not here for a visit.”
“Sis, We’re in deep.”
“That’s funny. I could have sworn you said ‘we’ but there’s only you. I told you running off with them would lead to nothing but trouble!”
“Now you know that’s not true. I’ve done a lot of good.”
“What has all that good done for you now? It means nothing. Everyone’s after you and your group. Read my lips, EV-ER-Y ONE! And I don’t even want to know how you got out of a maximum security prison.”
“How do you..? Well I could tell you about it. It’s quite a story, but I need something first.”
“Of course you do! I knew there was a catch! Go on Wilson, I’ll give you all the money I have but you can’t -”
“You were taking longer than expected and that car outside is very small.”
You look over Sams shoulder to see a tall man dressed similar to him. The voice sounded familiar, you stood shocked that someone had mysteriously entered your home without you noticing. Your eyes widened at the strangers.
“Oh yeah, sorry Steve. We were just having a family moment.” Sam looks back to you.
“You mean a family crisis.” You sneer, still gripping on to the umbrella.
“Ma'am.” The figure strides hurriedly in your direction, “I’m Steve Rogers-”
“Ok. First off how old do I look for you to refer to me as ma'am?” Resting your free hand on your hip, you watch Steve remove his sun glasses. “I know who you are! You’ve been around for a while, I would have thought you’d be up to modern speech by now.”
Hearing footsteps from another part of the house you whirl around to see three others appear.
“Whew. She’s a feisty one.”
“Damn it Lang!”
“You!” Motioning towards Sam, “Kitchen. Now! And for the rest of your little entourage- yeah.. make yourself at home but don’t touch anything.”
“Come on don’t be like this.” He looks back at you following him, away from the others.
“Be like what?”
“Like a mom.” He stops in the middle of the living room. You exhale signifying your annoyance. “Someone’s gotta to be the responsible one! I thought it was just you and me? Then you ran off and joined a boy band leaving me here.”
“The Avengers are not a boy band. Sis, I hate it when you’re like this.”
“YOU hate it?! I was left here! Worrying about you day and night! I had not one email, or letter, a freaking carrier pigeon would have sufficed! Nothing! Sam I didn’t know if you were alive-”
“But I’m here now.” Sam grabbed your wrists bringing your hands towards him as he sat on an arm of a nearby sofa. “That’s what’s important. And like I said, I need your help.” He looked up at you with those big brown eyes. Those eyes that say, 'sorry mom I broke a window in the neighbors yard with my football.’
“We all do, miss.” A gruff voice spoke calmly from behind Sam.
“Damn it, Samuel!” Shrieking, yanking your arms from him. You roll your eyes stomping away. “I’m not talking to you, Captain Rogers. WE are having a FAMILY meeting. He is MY family, not yours!”
Sam rolled his eyes heading toward you, “Don’t go getting yourself all worked up.” He rubbed your arm fake pouting.
Steve walked onto the discolored linoleum floor pausing midway from you. “Maybe not but he is my friend. A close friend.” His eyes look downcast. His face appeared aged and worn.
Shaking your head you started over, resting your palms against the kitchen sink. “Please Sam, I’ve lived between worked up and plain crazy for quite sometime now, If you already can’t tell from my appearance. I’ve been questioned- multiple times about your and your 'teams’ disappearance.”
“Did she just use air quotes?” Scott questions, running a finger over his bottom lip.
Natasha and Wanda elbow him swiftly, recrossing there arms in their own laps.
Scott draws closer, moving from Beig sandwiched between the two weary women to Steve’s shadow, “That doesn’t sound too bad-”
You cut him off, raising your hand, “I’ve been wired- that was fun and my phone tapped. I’ve been followed. Where you ask? Everywhere! Pick a place! I’ve been threatened, held at gunpoint and did I mention tortured?” Lifting an eyebrow, you look around at their shocked expressions after listing off everything I had been through. “Ok- mildly tortured, but still a fucking scary experience mind you- all because of your precious leader!” You glare at Steve. He shook his head with his eyes flicking to Sam. Sam was massaging his temples while the others sat motionless and quiet.
“And I apologize- for all of it.” Steve piped up. Finally, after avoiding your line of sight he was ready for you to give him the look he had grown accustomed to seeing. The look he had seen on Tony’s face the last time he had seen him. “I’m sorry, that you had to go through that.”
“Well,.. Thank you.” You mumbled, his apology catching you off guard. You looked to the other members of his broken team, shuffling into the kitchen one by one. They were battered, fatigued.
Sam smirked, arms against his chest. “Ready to hear us out?” The others turned to you. You looked at Natasha now dawning almost platinum short hair, Even under her makeup one could tell Wanda’s cheeks were more sunk in than normal, Scott Lang wore more stubble than you would have imagined, and Steve. Steve’s hair was longer, touching the tips of his shoulders, matching his full beard. The bags under is eyes pulled at your heart.
“Nope!” You simply say, spinning around headed back into the family room. “I like it here Sam. No one knows I’m here- except my editor .”
“Wait what happened to your Job at-”
“Shh, I’m not talking about that right now.” You sigh, rubbing your forehead.
“Sam this was a mistake-” Steve began.
Sam hovers over you, “Listen, you know I wouldn’t have come here if I had any other choice, right?” Sam gripped your shoulders making you face him, “The last thing I ever wanted to do was put you in any danger. Why do you think I’ve stayed away for so long?”
You look at the others, sighing. “Yeah ok. So what does Steve Rogers and his band of misfits need?”
“A place to stay- a safe house.” Steve looked at you, removing his baseball cap. “
"And the first thing you thought was mom and dads lake house?!?” You scoff, walking around Sam heading for the linen closet. “Of course. I guess you can and they can stay. Everyone can stay.” You threw your hands up just as Sam threw his arms around you lifting you into the air, leaving a big sloppy kiss on your cheek.
“Thanks.” He smiles, looking out towards the others. “She said we can stay!” He yells. The others dismiss themselves. Either to remove their jackets and shoes or bring in what little belongings they had from their car.
“Don’t thank me just yet alright?” You return with your arms stacked with folded blankets. “I’m out here trying to take a break from the city, and work on-”
“The novel. Yes. I had forgotten.” Sam wags a finger at you, distributing the items you recovered.
“So, if you don’t mind me asking, how popular is this book?” Scott softly speaks unsure of your reaction.
“It’s just something I’ve been working on..” You shrug your shoulders.
“For an extended amount of time.”
“Well I had some hick ups.”
“You mean break ups.”
“Ahem!” You slap Sam on the back passing by.
“You’ve been working on the book since he joined, haven’t you? Knew it!” Scott spoke slapping his knee.
“Just for the record-” You yell over your shoulder, heading upstairs, “I was team iron man.”
“That’s cold! real cold.” Sam retorts shaking his head.
“Boo!” Scott hollers, giving you a thumbs down. He turned to Wanda passing her a blanket. “I like her. She’s spunky. I like spunky.”
———
You knocked on the wood frame of the entree way. “Rise and shine guys. I’ve got the guest rooms ready.” You hear grumbling from the folded out sofa beds. “Due to how many of you there are- everyone might have to bunk up.”
“Ok. Sounds like a soundproof plan.”
“Calm down tiger.” Natasha yawns, her hair mildly staticky.
“I’m sure we are all adults here. Pick your bunk buddy.” You snicker. When scot and sam shoot a cut-throat glance at you, you clear your throat over the high pitch sound. “Well me and you can bunk together big bro!” You say sarcastically. “It’s only far . Natasha and Wanda, Scott and Steve. But we’ll have one room left. Are you expecting any other teammates?”
Steve looks over at Sam, “Bucky’s best in wakanda. He’s safe and I’d like to keep it that way for as long as possible.”
“Got it.” You nod, “Oh, Where’s the one that shoots arrows?”
“Clint Barton’s At his farm. In short, he’s safe too. Right where he’s needed most- With his family.”
“Ok. Well, it’s up to Sam but since you’re the leader I figure-”
“No we’re imposing on you. Why don’t you guys keep your rooms-ok?”
“Steve-”
“Sam, It’s the least we can do. Scott and I can share right, Lang?”
Sam leaned in towards Steve, “Listen you may not want to hear this but you’ve got a hell of a lot more things going on than running for your life. You take the empty room. Scott will be with me, besides we can work on our team building while you think of a way to get us out of this shitty spot we’re in.” Sam picks up his duffle bag, “Lang grab your crap and follow me.”
“This place is honestly bigger than I thought it would be.”
“Really now?”
“Considering your brother tends to exaggerate- just from time to time.”
You laughed loudly, bringing up a hand to cover the sound. To your surprise Steve joined in. At that moment you knew what ever fan girl meant by how handsome Steve Rogers actually was. His eyes ever so slightly crinkled at the edges, seemed to have gained back some sparkle that was thought to have been sniffed out from the previous months. His teeth were bright and white. The others exchanged glances watching the interaction between you and him.
———
“So Cap, what was all that- that tee heeing you were doing with my sister?” Sam rounded Steve, flopping some fresh clothes and toletries on the dresser.
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t. Steve. I haven’t seen you laugh in like -”
“Oh Earlier? It was funny, that’s all. It caught me in a weird- I don’t know. She seemed- like I said, it was funny, at the time.”
“Not you too!”
“Not me too what?”
“Ugh. When we were growing up I couldn’t bring any and I mean any of my friends over, or they would just ogle her.”
“Ogle?”
“You know-Stare at? Drool over? Like she was a peace of meat.”
“Ah. Ok and…”
“You’re being sucked into her vortex of love and sexual prowlessness.”
Steve lets out a hearty laugh, “Oh God Sam. No.”
“You’re getting drawn into her.” Sam began. Steve heard a thump in the hallway as Sam continued… “She’s a good girl, like too good.”
Ok.“ Steve responds, opening the bedroom door to see you stumble, keeping one hand on the wall with another tightly wrapped around the lip of a vodka bottle. Steve turns his head back towards Sam’s direction, "Exactly how good is she?”
“She Stays out of trouble, unlike myself nowadays. She hates attention- any kind it doesn’t matter. Doesn’t drink or smoke-”
Steve watched as you remove your cigarette from your bottling lip. His eyebrows shoot up watching you begin to blow rings into each of the light fixtures you pass by.
“-Level headed, but a stuck up perfectionist and all around, what we call a goodie goodie.”
Steve absentmindedly licks his bottom lip watching you bend over picking up something off the ground, revealing a rose tattoo on your lower back.
“Really now?” Steve rasps, swallowing hard he shut the bedroom door.
“Yes really. So make sure you put everything you use back and exactly the way you found it.”
“Hey are you sure? she may have changed. She might not be the same-”
“Oh trust me. The one thing my sister doesn’t do- is change. ”
———
Besides having to go into town more than usual, having half of the avengers team wasn’t half bad. You were definitely cooking more frequently and really got a taste of how it must have been living with them. Sometimes a tad messy though even with all the movies and board games, you could tell they were becoming nervous and stir crazy the following weeks.
“Hey,” You spoke over Steve’s shoulder, startling him a bit. “I thought I wouldn’t be able to startle an Avenger?”
“I’m not an Avenger anymore.”
“Says who?”
“Everyone.”
“Anyway- umm I figure we could have fish tonight but Sammy’s all thumbs when it comes to fishing. Would you mind helping me out?”
He placed his magazine off to the side looking at you. “What?”
“Nothing.” Clearing your throat you look around unsure what to do.
“Why ask me and not-”
“Really, miss Romanoff fishing? And Scott’s weird. Cmon!!” You grown, looking back at him.
“I don’t think…”
“Please don’t make me beg.”
“What- ” a laugh creeps through his lips. “Beg?” He questions.
You proceeded to get on your knees, resting my arms over the arm of the couch. “Oh please Captain America, I’d love it if you were to accompany me-”
Steve frowns, “I’m no ones captain.” he growls. Getting up he rushes towards Sam’s room closing the door behind him.
“Ohhhh. What was that about?” Natasha looks in from the kitchen. “Oh that one…Trust me y/n, I’ve tried- multiple times- ways to make him not be so down on himself.”
“Welp! I’ll just leave him to his brooding. You’ll know where I’ll be.”
“And where is that exactly?”
“There’s a lake aways from here. You can see it from the porch.”
“Ok. Have fun.” She gave a saluting wave, before blowing off a mug of tea.
—–
You sat on a towel, hands shaking from the wind coming off the lake. You had done a better job fishing than ever before, just waiting on one more nibble before heading inside. Suddenly, you felt a blanket fall over your shoulders. You start to look upward when Steve plops down beside you. “You looked a bit chilly.”
“You could tell that all from the porch? Well…thanks, I appreciate it. Sorry I ended up out here longer than-”
“No worries. The fish bitting?”
“Oh yeah! I want to just make sure I have enough for everyone.”
“Look, I can’t express how much your gratitude means to me and for the others. We haven’t had it easy..” His voice drifted, watching the soothing waves before us.
“I can imagine. Looking over your constantly shoulder. Yeah, been there and I didn’t even do anything wrong. Wait, I’m sorry that came out-”
“You’re right you didn’t deserve that.”
“Neither did you and your friends.”
We both sat quietly while minutes passed, watching as the sun began setting. It’s reflection bounced off the lake. You could feel Steve face you, keeping your gaze on the sparkling lake.
“So you gonna spill about why you’re supposedly no longer an Avenger.”
Steve let out an long sigh, propping himself up with his hands. “Haven’t you heard? They’re no more. Disband thanks to me.”
You nodded, looking across the vast body of water before us. “You know, no matter what may disturb this lake it still remains? If it rains, flood abit- it still stays. When there’s a drought, it may shrink but stands its ground.” You lean over grabbing a rock, “if I throw this in, the water ripples. The ebb and flow of the waves change for a split moment.” I shuffled over to the edge of the sand throwing it. You listen for it to make a plopping noise. It causes ripples that spread across the dark velvety water. “And Now the lake isn’t quite the same, It’s got one more extra rock inside of it. But see how calm it is now? It has adjusted and continues to be… well a lake.” You finish taking your seat back on the blanket. “Ok maybe that was a bad analogy. Horrible. It sounded great in my head.”
“No I get it. That was good. You’re saying, because of all this adapt, focus and move forward.”
“Now you sound like the star spangled man with a plan already!Oh god, I’m sorry.” You cover your face. Suddenly your face feels hot with embarrassment.
“Yeahhh…”
“That just tumbled out.. man, I’m soo sorry.”
“It’s fine. Thank you. I- I needed that. I needed this.” Steve reaches for the fishing pole, pulling his hand back quickly when you go to slap it.
“Oh no sir. You’re not MY captain! Get your own fishing pole.” You pointed to the ones not far from you. His laugh was boisterous as he shot up to grab his own pole. Even in the moonlight you knew this would be the start of your demise.

A Spring Cleaning Task List for Dog Owners

Ahh … that time of year when the sun stays out longer and your gardens bloom stronger. When winter transitions to spring, many people start some significant cleaning projects. Don’t leave your dog out of this ritual. Your dog’s dishes, toys, bedding — and even your dog herself — can benefit from a spring-cleaning overhaul. Here’s how to get started.

Dog grooming must-dos
Create a grooming schedule and stick to it. “It is also very important to have dogs who are more likely to retain moisture/skin yeast, such as Cocker Spaniels and Bulldogs, start a routine bathing/haircut schedule during this time,” advises Samantha Hull, a professional groomer and program manager for the Animal Behavior College’s Grooming Instruction Program in Valencia, California.

Get grooming supplies specific for your dog.
“Spring is the seasonal shedding season. And all dogs shed their winter fur irrespective of coat length and texture,” says Sandy Robins, award-winning author and pet lifestyle expert based in Southern California. “This means different dogs have different shedding patterns. So one grooming plan doesn’t fit all. However, consider a spa day for your dog that includes a good brushing and a bath, and then another brushing with a tool such as a rubber curry brush — with big rubber teeth. It’s inexpensive but very effective, and most dogs love the gentle massage it gives. Different coats may require different tools, too, such as slicker brushes, combs and fine-tooth de-shedding tools and rakes. Plus, invest in a good shampoo and conditioner.”
If this seems overwhelming, don’t feel guilty if you need some help getting started. “Depending on your pooch’s coat type, it may be a good idea to have your dog groomed professionally to get rid of the winter hair,” Sandy says. “Then it’s easier to maintain and manage at home.”

Keep dogs well-brushed.
Not surprisingly, some dogs need a bit of extra care based on coat or breed. “We change our wardrobe when the seasons change; dogs change their coat,” explains Jorge Bendersky, Manhattan-based groomer and author of DIY Dog Grooming: From Puppy Cuts To Best In Show, Everything You Need To Know. “Dogs with a double coat will start shedding the dense winter undercoat for a fluffier and lighter undercoat that will allow more air to circulate, protecting the body from overheating. That’s why it is so important to keep dogs well-brushed.”

Don’t bring the outside inside.
Then there’s the type of grooming required because of more time spent outdoors. “Taking a nice long walk on a spring day is a healthy habit for pets and humans,” Jorge points out. “But bringing all those allergens into the house can be counterproductive. Cuddling with your dog after a walk is cuddling with a furball full of pollen. Wiping your dog with a damp washcloth or dog-friendly wipes is a good way to remove pollen and dust.”
And don’t stop at the coat. Jorge reminds owners that new plant growth in the spring can mean debris that can get stuck in your dog’s feet. “Checking them after your walk during the wipe-down process is a good routine to prevent any problems. Remember that most dogs only sweat through their pads and tongue, so keeping them clean is key for their heath.”
Worse yet are those little bloodsuckers. “The biggest thing I stress to clients during springtime is how imperative it is to check your pups for fleas and ticks,” Samantha says. “While preventives will stop your pup from an infestation, they can easily still be brought in and begin thriving on indoor pets, furniture or carpets.”

Clean those ears.
Ears also warrant some extra care. “Ear infections are becoming more and more common, and the transition to spring can cause ear problems,” says Melissa Gulbranson, vice president of marketing for Oxyfresh based in Idaho, which makes an ear cleaner for dogs. “We always recommend using an alcohol-free, sting-free, non-oil based solution to help soothe and clean ears, especially since dust mites seem to multiply as seasons change.”
Update your dog’s ID.
One last note about your dog and more outside time. The ASPCA’s website has this reminder: “Warmer weather means more trips to the park, longer walks and more chances for your pet to wander off! Make sure your dog or cat has a micro-chip for identification and wears a tag imprinted with your home address and any other relevant contact information.”

How to clean your dog’s stuff
When you start spring cleaning, set aside a few hours to focus on the items your dog uses daily.
Start with cleaning beds and toys.
“Winter time is tough on these items, and they probably have the smells to prove it,” Melissa says. “Use a nontoxic pet deodorizer to spray down dog beds and give them a fresh new smell. You can also use a nontoxic pet shampoo to wash bedding and toys. Stay clear of what we use for human clothes. The detergents are typically a bit too harsh for a pet’s sensitive skin.”
Samantha adds, “I always recommend to my clients that while their pups are with me, go home and clean their bedding, collars and doggie clothes that are used on them often. This includes areas they frequent in the home (couches, carpets, etc.). This ensures that the bath lasts longer because they don’t return to a dirty bed.”
Clean bedding can also mean healthier bedding. “Washing bedding not only refreshes the fabrics and removes stubborn pet hair but also eradicates dust mites, a common household allergen causing allergic reactions in pets,” Sandy says. “These miniscule mites live on dead skin cells and other detritus in house dust. Most pet beds have removable covers that can be machine-washed. And they should be done regularly — not necessarily only at springtime. Consider using a detergent that is recommended for babies to ensure that your pooch doesn’t have an allergic reaction to her clean bedding, too.”
How to deep clean your dog’s bowls.
While food and water bowls should also be cleaned regularly, this is a good time to give bowls a deep cleaning with a mild bleach solution or give them a ride in the dish washer. If your dog likes to chew on plastic bowls — perhaps to point out that you’re three minutes late feeding — it is the perfect time to replace them.
Photo: ©SolStock | Getty Images
Inspect everything.
This is also the time to determine if you agree with Brave New World’s mantra of “ending is better than mending.” Check out your dog’s bed, blankets and toys to see if they are torn or overly frayed, potentially causing a safety issue.
“If you are amongst the ranks of pet parents who have thicker bedding options for the cold winter months, inspect them to see whether they need be washed before being packed away or simply replaced,” Sandy recommends. “If the padded area is flat and not offering comfort and support, throw it away.”
If you do find yourself shopping for a new dog bed, consider a couple features. For example, Sandy recommends getting senior dogs a bed with bolsters for a comfy head rest. And you will probably appreciate the ability to toss a cover into the washer instead of a whole bed.
Speaking of washers, Laura Pakis, CPT, blogger and owner and founder of Acme Canine in Columbus, Ohio, points out, “Newer dryers have a sanitize cycle, which is great for dog beds.”
Experts give additional tips on when to toss your dog’s other items, including putting yourself in their paws. “My rule of thumb is to simply ask, would I want to use/wear this?” Samantha asks. “If a collar is shredded, has an odor or shows extreme discoloration, its time for a new one. Not only does the smell/dirt rub off on the pup, a ripped or weakened collar can pose a serious threat to your dog, as well. It may fall off in the event that your pup gets out or even get caught on something in the home.”
The first sign is always smell, Melissa says. “If it smells similar to mildew, absolutely replace it. Collars can harbor bacteria because they are woven very tight, and we recommend replacing it each year, as it can cause neck irritation and introduce bacteria to the ears.”
Finally, check to make sure toys continue to bring joy, not dread. If they pose hazards, that isn’t fun for anyone. “Pitch dog toys that have developed sharp edges or have worn down to the point they are too small for dogs to safely have in their mouths,” Laura recommends. “Remove all threads that may appear on the toys after use. Dogs can ingest these and have stomach issues. Same for the ‘stuffing’ in dog toys.”
These tips are designed to make cleaning a little easier on you — and your dog — once spring has sprung. And remember — you don’t have to finish in one day. But then, it is nice to get it over with and get out with your furry friend to enjoy the fine weather.

10 Above Ground Pool Maintenance Tips You Need To Have!
10 Above Ground Pool Maintenance Tips You Need to Have
Are you the proud new owner of an above ground pool?
If so, you’re in good company. There are an estimated 10.6 million swimming pools in the US, almost half of which are above ground.
But while your pool will mean a lot of fun in the sun, it also means a lot of work. Many new pool owners underestimate the amount of maintenance that even a small above ground pool requires.
In this post, we’ll walk you through some common pool cleaning and maintenance issues. Then we’ll reveal 10 essential tips for proper above ground pool maintenance.
Common Pool Problems
The biggest challenge for pools – both public and private – is keeping them clean. In a recent CDC report, inspectors found health code violations in 80% of public pools.
But there are hundreds of people that use public pools, you may argue. While this is true, even a small pool for you and your family can become a breeding ground for germs.
Here are a few common issues related to above ground pool maintenance:
Cloudy water
Algae growth
Slimy feel
Burning sensation in the eyes or on the skin
Repeated or constant filter clogging
All these problems result from improper filtration, poor circulation, or misuse of pool chemicals. The good news is that you can easily correct these issues through proper above ground pool maintenance.
Chlorine Vs. Salt Water
For decades, chlorine has been the chemical of choice to sanitize swimming pools. Lately, though, there’s been a trend towards salt water pools.
Before we discuss above ground pool maintenance, let’s briefly discuss the pros and cons of salt water pools.
One noteworthy fact is that salt water pools are nowhere near as salty as the ocean. Most pools contain about one-tenth the salinity of seawater.
Many people believe that salt water pools contain no chlorine, but that’s not the case. The system actually creates chlorine through a process called electrolysis.
Because of the lower chlorine level, salt water pools are gentler on the eyes and feel “softer” to the swimmer.
Traditional chlorine pools require constant monitoring of chemical levels. A salt water generator spares owners from buying, handling, and storing harsh chemicals.
Because the salt cells generate chlorine as needed, the water needs less maintenance than a traditional chlorine pool. This can significantly reduce your weekly above ground pool maintenance.
One drawback of a salt water system is the initial cost. A salt water generator requires a much larger investment than a chlorinated pool. Also, because the system is so complex, you’ll need to call an experienced technician for any major problems.
If it’s in the budget, salt water could be a healthier and time-saving alternative to traditional chlorine.
10 Tips For Above Ground Pool Maintenance
You’ve got your pool. You’ve got your favorite pool accessories.
Now it’s time to consider proper above ground pool maintenance so your family can enjoy the pool for years to come.
1. Circulation
One of the biggest challenges of maintaining your above ground pool is water circulation.
Achieving good circulation in your pool involves more than simply filtering water. It means getting all the water moving into and through the filter.
In addition to filter turnover, circulation must also remove “dead spots.” These are the areas where algae, dirt, and debris always seems to accumulate.
Common dead spots include:
the lower half of the pool
corners (in rectangular pools)
the exact center (in round pools)
behind ladders and stairs
The more the water circulates, the better the filtration. As a result, your pool remains cleaner. With that said, what are some easy ways to improve your pool’s circulation?
The first and most obvious way is to use it. Swim, play, splash, and do a few cannon balls. Using your pool on a regular basis is the easiest way to circulate the water.
Just like you need to brush and floss your teeth daily, you need to brush and vacuum your pool regularly, too. Aim to brush down the pool walls at least once a week (preferably twice).
If your pool contains jets, be sure to aim them down. You also need to run your filter at least eight hours per day. Using a timer will help save money and electricity.
2. Filtration
The next step for above ground pool maintenance is proper filtration. Once the water is circulating as it should, filtration will remove dirt, debris, and algae.
The three most common types of filtration systems are:
Sand filters
Cartridge filters
DE (Diatomaceous Earth) filters
Each filter functions the same way, but sand filters remove the largest particles and DE filters remove the smallest. Whichever type of filter you choose, you should filter your pool water anywhere from 8 to 12 hours each day.
A crucial factor of above ground pool maintenance is ensuring your filter is the correct size. It’s important to never undersize your filter cartridge. While it may appear to keep your pool clean at first, over time it will create more and more work for you.
Another important thing to remember is to chemically clean the filter. You need to disassemble and rinse your filter regularly, but this won’t remove grease, oil, or embedded dirt.
To achieve that, you’ll need to clean the filter twice per season with a chemical filter cleaning product. This usually involves soaking the filter in the solution, although some brands offer spray-on versions.
3. Cleaning
You bought your pool for relaxation and entertainment. But like other “toys,” you have to maintain it – and that means cleaning.
Isn’t that what filters are for? Yes, filters definitely help to keep your pool clean.
Unfortunately, though, they don’t do all the work. You still have to roll up your sleeves and do some dirty work yourself.
The three main aspects of manual pool cleaning are skimming, vacuuming, and brushing.
Skimming
Your wall skimmer will catch some floating debris. But if you have a lot of trees, you’ll also need a handheld leaf skimmer.
Attach the leaf skimmer to a pool pole and drag it across the water’s surface. A bag-type leaf rake works best on a lot of leaves or to scoop debris from the pool’s floor.
A flat skimmer net will work to quickly clear a few leaves from the surface.
Vacuuming
You can connect suction-type cleaners into the skimmer to set up an automatic pool vacuum. You can also use a robotic pool cleaner.
If the leaves are deep or you’re experiencing an algae bloom, you’ll want to vacuum your pool the old-fashioned way.
To begin, put the vacuum head on the pole and connect the vacuum hose. Place it in the pool and hold the other end over the return fitting so the hose fills with water.
Push it into the hole below the skimmer basket and voila! You’re vacuuming your pool.
Brushing
A final part of cleaning your pool is wall and floor brushing. This is the most neglected area of above ground pool maintenance, yet it’s one of the most important.
Just like teeth, pools need regular brushing to remove invisible film and bacteria. It also helps to improve water circulation.
Brush your pool at least once a week. If you have a hard time reaching the walls, it may be easiest to brush while standing in the center of your pool.
Also be sure to keep your pool brush in pristine condition. If the bristles get worn and the edges get rough, it could damage the lining of the pool.
4. Testing
Testing is vital to determine the “health” of your pool’s water.
Don’t rely solely on how the water looks since many contaminants are invisible. Most common complaints (skin irritation, red eyes, discolored hair) occur when the water appears clearest.
Whether you use chlorine, bromine, salt, or biguanides, you need to check the levels at least twice a week. Test the pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness, and make any needed adjustments.
If the levels are too low, algae and bacteria can multiply and cause you serious problems. If they’re too high, you’re wasting money and exposing yourself to potential health risks.
By testing regularly, you’ll protect both the filter system and the pool’s surfaces. You’ll also notice better sanitizer efficiency and eliminate common eye and skin complaints.
5. Water Chemistry
You may feel nervous about the chemicals going into your pool, but you don’t have to be. Water chemistry is one of the easier aspects of above ground pool maintenance.
For ideal water chemistry, you first need to maintain constant levels of sanitizer. Next, shock the pool and add algicide every two weeks to inhibit algae growth.
Finally, monitor and maintain proper pH balance. Without it, your sanitizer won’t work as effectively as it should. Cloudy water signals high pH levels, while ultra-clear water means a low pH level.
Here’s a quick breakdown of a pool’s ideal water chemistry:
Alkalinity: 80-120 ppm
pH Level: 7.2-7.6
Calcium: 250-400 ppm
Chlorine: 2.0-4.0
Test these levels at least once a week to maintain a healthy, stable pool environment.
6. Sanitizing
We’ve already touched on pool filters, which is one way of sanitizing your pool. Let’s discuss sanitizing in more detail, including other options.
All pools require the use of some type of sanitizing system. These work to kill bacteria and prevent algae. The most common sanitizer is chlorine, usually in the form of a tablet, granule, or stick.
Because some want to reduce their chlorine exposure, alternative sanitizers are becoming popular. These include salt chlorine generators, ionizers, ozone generators, and UV sterilizers.
Whichever type of sanitizer you choose, it’s vital to monitor the level and keep it consistent. Sanitizing is the main way to protect you and your family from harmful pathogens in the water.
7. Shock Treatments
No, we’re not talking about a medical procedure. Shock treatments are another important aspect of above ground pool maintenance.
Shock treatments accomplish the following:
Prevent chloramine contamination
Inhibit debris buildup
Oxidize organic contaminants
Kills resistant algae
Eliminate contamination from sunscreen, hair products, and bodily fluids
Shock treatments are available in both chlorine and non-chlorinated forms. There are also shock treatments specially designed for hard water regions.
8. Pool Walls
Above ground pool maintenance involves more than just monitoring the water. You also need to care for and protect the pool itself.
If anything bumps into the walls of your above ground pool – even gently – it can cause serious damage. A major dent, leak, or crimp in a wall panel can happen more easily than you think.
When your kids use bicycles or tricycles in the pool area, watch them closely. They should also avoid throwing balls or other toys at the walls of the pool. Repeatedly standing or sitting on the top rail of the pool wall could cause damage, too.
If you have trees in your yard, keep them trimmed and monitor for loose branches. Even a small branch, if it falls the right way, could spell disaster for your pool walls.
9. Pool Liner
The best way to protect your pool liner is to maintain proper water chemistry.
If the chlorine levels are too high, this can make the vinyl brittle and make it prone to damage. Many things can cause holes or punctures, especially toys and street clothes.
And if your dog enjoys swimming in the pool, make sure to keep his nails trimmed. Better safe than sorry.
10. Winterizing
If you live somewhere with cold winters, you’ll need to winterize your pool at the end of each summer season.
Remove the ladder, chemicals, and cleaning supplies and store them somewhere warm and dry. Ensure proper water chemistry before you add a winter chemical kit to the water.
After running the filter for an hour, disconnect the motor and pump and drain the water from your pool. Clean and dry the pool, filter, and hoses and store all loose items in a dry place.
Finally, cover your pool with a year-round or winter cover. It will stay safe and protected until the spring.
Final Thoughts
There are a lot of steps involved in above ground pool maintenance.
Once you establish a good routine, though, you should be able to maintain a clean, healthy pool.
