Illnesses and Diseases - Flea Fever

One of the most common diseases of the world is commonly referred to as “flea fever,” picked up from one of the most agitation pests known to creature-kind. As fleas are an unavoidable part of life, it’s not uncommon for creatures to catch at least mild symptoms of flea fever - often referred to as flea-flight - around the world. If fleas are left unchecked and untreated for extended periods of time however, it develops rapidly to Flea Fever.

Flea Fever is a truly terrifying illnesses when it finally sets in - it starts with a loss of appetite followed by the titular fever flushing their body and from there, it only gets worse. They become more and more exhausted, struggling with staying awake as they’re consistently tired. The patient struggles to swallow things; often complaining of dry throats and should be given as much water as they can handle regularly or throat soothers. The extremely young and extremely old are particularly vulnerable to the anemia and eventual illness. 

The most severe cases of Flea Fever also feature seizures, abrupt personality changes, blindness and sometimes a surprising onset of Greencough. You can usually tell ahead of time when the creature starts making dirt on themselves, spends a lot of time walking in circles and allowing her muscles to spasm. Always take care to remove fleas on a regular basis and use your area’s form of flea-preventive herbs.

toxiplasmosis kind of sounds like a made up disease by someone who doesnt like cats but literally i went from never having a cat, not really caring about them, not really finding them cute, to now i carry mine around like hes my infant son and my whole online identity is around cats. in a way yhat does admittedly feel a bit like i was infected by some sort of brain parasite. but i also dont really care like what if its cute... i will take care of it

Some cats have this thing called Toxoplasma gondii.

Cats tend to spread it around to mice, and they tend to be more docile and not very frightened of cats.

Anyway, headcanon is that the cat ladies can give it to Mouse!Reader via kisses or licks.

I know that Mouse!Reader ISN'T a rat, but something very cute about them is that rats play and like to be tickled!

Usually they like wrestling, tug of war, and tag, and I just think it would be so cute for Mouse/Rodent!Reader to do something similar if she was under the influence of Toxiplasmosis!

Rats are also HIGHLY food motivated, like, if the Cat Women want her to beg, or do a trick, all they have to do is ask and she'll just do it for treats or lovins!

It would explain why Mouse! Reader might get more comfortable around the felines later on. The more she is kissed and groomed by all these big cat ladies (and Lynette), the calmer she gets, to the point where she’s comfortable snuggling up to them. 🤭

Also, while Mouse! Reader isn’t a rat, I would assume she displays pretty similar behaviors when it comes to playing. Perhaps the game of “chase” with Lynette grows on her, and she actually likes being chased around by the cat ladies and picked up in their mouths. She could also enjoy “tug of war” with the canine ladies as well, but ofc; the big canine women would always win against a smol mouse…

asparagus (an unpopular opinion): cats are terrible pets. They don’t really give any fucks about us, toxiplasmosis(?) is a pretty scary thing, and they’re specifically responsible for the extinction of 33 different songbird species. I understand that it’s possible to have indoor cats and that a *lot* of people really love their cats, but I don’t have a lot of patience for them. I think species that aren’t responsible for approximately a billion animal deaths per year are generally a better choice.
