I am so excited for the new Fantasy Life that I am willing to deal with it being part-town builder. I hate those games because I don't like designing things but my love for Fantasy Life trumps it.
How do you design a town I'm gonna need help
Well, it's too early to tell how focused on town building the new game is going to be, so I can't offer any real advice, but if I were to guess from what we know now, I'd compare it to Animal Crossings New Horizons. Not just because of some of the things they appear to have in common, but also because in ACNH, you can put as much effort as you want to in the town. A lot of people like to spend a lot of time decorating to make their towns look nice, but there's also players that just pop the houses and shops wherever and do the bare minimum to fulfill quests. Since Fantasy Life i is going to be way more than a town building game, if that's not your cup of tea, you can just put the buildings and decorations wherever and go back to the parts of the game that truly interest you, such as the RPG elements of the game. And, just like with ACNH, I'm sure that once Fantasy Life i comes out, there will be tons of people sharing town decoration videos and tips, so even if you're not the best at designing, you'll have lots of examples to draw inspiration from!

Rebuilt the Minimap
It no longer has to be destroyed and repopulated with every Entity when something is created or destroyed. This wasn't really an issue originally, you barely noticed, but with the bigger maps it caused a noticeable lag when building stuff.
Tumblr media
Still haven't quite solved the rounding error for player position though.

And it works with the buildings.

Townscaper is a toybox created by solo developer Oskar Stålberg. The game features no objectives or storytelling; it just presents a beautiful little town creation tool, in which the player can build beautiful, strange towns and cities, with as much complexity as they'd like. I had quite a bit of fun testing this one out and exploring the combination of construction and color. Absolutely fun. #games #townbuilder #gamelover #digitaltoys #townscaper #gamer #simulationgame #gamestoplay https://www.instagram.com/p/Cou2f_HPPro/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Also this is only extremely tangentially related. But it is HYSTERICAL TO ME that the Hotel Transylvania game for the 3ds
1: is apparently the only game with a uk specific version. The only one on the eshop. What did the average brit do to deserve this
And 2: technically has a more indepth banner/music than multiple first party games. Once again why.
also now that I got ghosteshop to work I'm going on a download spree and I'm genuienly confuzzled as to why. The hell. Theres so much yo-kai watch. Like sure multiple versions of the same game or wtvr but why did the updates take as long as downloading their own games. What could these games possibly add to them that shouldn't have been in the base unupdated game beyond like, A welcome amiibo style update. Why

we're entering into another funny era of shovelware games with things like manor lords getting popular, because "nondescriptly european medieval townbuilder" is like the easiest genre on earth to asset flip

[OLD] I got hooked on an indie rpg called Littlewood a while back. Decided to draw the bird guy npc, his name is Bubsy.
Would 100% recommend the game if you're a big fan of animal crossing, harvest moon, any type of farming/townbuilding game.

i like to think im a good person but also if i was sent back in time to the beginning of the iphone game boom i would make the most predatory, addictive microtransaction-stuffed townbuilding game in existence and i would make bank off of it.

Since you’re the dm, can you tell us a bit about your toonkind dnd thing? Also, can it be listened to anywhere?
I'm one DM out of many! One of the best things about the toonkind community is that we have lots of dungeon masters who are all running games in the same amazing world. The campaigns that I've run are The Silver Screen and Dreamer's Crest, but there are many more available for listening on the toonkind mastersheet.
Here's a link if you want to go digging!
A basic summary is that Toonkind is what happens when you play DND with cartoon characters! It's similar in tone and scope to classics like 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' or the recent Sonic films- the characters follow toon logic while going on story-driven adventures! Most people use the DND 5E system when running it, but I've heard of similar stuff being run on different systems like FATE or Kids on Bikes.
The Silver Screen is about how a rag-tag group of adventurers are hired by Crown Prince Not-Mickey-Mouse to investigate several natural disasters- though they end up uncovering a much larger conspiracy. This campaign is complete!
Dreamer's Crest is a slice-of-life adventure/townbuilder focusing on a group of toon characters who move to a secluded village at the base of a mysterious magical mountain known as Dreamer's Crest. This campaign is currently on indefinite hiatus.

having come to gti after having played everything else first, some of its quirks are a bit weird or frustrating. developing paradise is the weird one. it's fine, but definitely different from the other games. the FRUSTRATING one is being limited to a single mission per dungeon run :(
sure it has weird quirks, but they're probably just growing pains moving to 3d having been in 2d for a while. it's gen 5—pokémon's supposed Big Cultural Reset. one mission per outing is annoying, sure, but i really liked the paradise townbuilding mechanics, personally. i felt like it was a whole new layer to the typical pmd formula that i really enjoyed—not only are you making friends and getting to know everyone, you're also building up the area around you at the same time, defining how it looks and works—and some of the things you could build offered genuinely useful utility. growing reviver seeds was a life-saver. the postgame was a little short, sure, but that's mostly because they expect the townbuilding mechanics to serve as postgame enough, i suppose
slow text speed and one-mission-per-outing aside, it's still a wonderful game. the story is most of what matters, isn't it? if you're playing a game for its gameplay exclusively, then there's no reason to play any of them besides rtdx, since it's the most up-to-date. or pmd sky, since it has a basic attack that doesn't suck. but that's not what we're here for, is it? not as pmd fans. that's not who we are as a fanbase. maybe sometimes, but almost a thousand percent of the time, it's the characters and the story that matter to us—to me, at least. which is why i love psmd and gti. they have some of my favorite characters, setting, and story of all time. what's not to love?

Tad Raxall in Lost
In Lost (s1e12) Fi uses a program called Townbuilder to map Kamilah's path home. Above the right icons is *.* software inc.
Tumblr media
Strange Geometry isn't until season 2, but according to its script Molly's "She Sells" music video featured Star Dot Star products.
Tumblr media
Universal Gateway is a web browser. Most times the name is visible at the bottom of Fi's screen with *.* software inc. (barely visible) on the bottom left side depending on how the scene is shot.
Tumblr media
Jon Weisman's detail of "Universal Gateway II" implies an upgraded version of, you know, an original Universal Gateway.
Who knows? Maybe that was part of the new software Tad gave Fi a voucher for in Simplicity (s1e6). Townbuilder/TownBuilder could have also been included in that.
Tumblr media
Molly and John's dialogue remained in the final version of Strange Geometry, but the closest we get to Molly having make-up done is when she leaves a room to walk to set.
Tumblr media
Despite no Star Dot Star products in sight, Molly dressed like a Zenon character could be a nod to it.
Tad's products not only help Fi connect with others (Universal Gateway, In Box) and research (Star Dot Seek), his Townbuilder game becomes a tool to help the Simmonds family.
Tumblr media
(Once you spot *.* in the corners of her laptop you can't unsee it. This shot is from Avatar.)
Tumblr media
(From the Will o' the Wisp episode.)
It's a neat way to keep Tad relevant in So Weird episodes and set up his role for (the planned and cut) season 3 when Fi would have needed him to help her save the universe.

nvm i lied, posting the dnd stories now
so like, quick recap, last we left off, we got the cast of: T the Amnesiac Human Fighter (Now wields scythe with added poison), Gumgum the Craftsman Goomba (Who now has a crossbow that is pretty much just a gun), Link the Cat Alchemist (Is still as op as they always were), Wessly the Human Druid who speaks like Shaggy, Yew the Deer Sorcerer, and Aster, Yew's conjured Elk familiar.
Among the next few sessions, Gumgum raised Gumgumgum and Gumgum Jr. (Or ggg and jr. for short), and Ggg became a Gunslinger while Jr became a Warlock. Meanwhile, me, the dm, being like "yOU GAVE YOUR KID A GUN AND LET THE OTHER FORM A CULT???". Honestly, Gumgum best parent-
The party began making a town cus they were wanted for the alchemist's antics causing actual crimes in the main town, so, pretty great.
Townbuilding was alright, let them roll to get random npcs, basically had a whole 2 sessions total of animal crossing in dnd (wanted by the players). Basically, references to old characters and dumb concepts, like Nyello the dragon scholar. Anyways, basically: The new npcs start in tents, and they can spend time and money upgrading them for better stuff or abilities. Gumgum built a tavern he plans to run (so, not only does he endanger his kids, but he builds a place to sell alcohol. Dad of the year-)
Oh, side bit of lore, goombas grow up fast in this world, so, the goomba kids went from babi to kid in a few days.
Anyways, party fought pirates, recruited this pirate captain npc after killing his crew that totally won't mutiny, befriended a fire elemental that totally won't hunt them down when their supply of wood is gone, fought necromancers and a skeletal giant, met a golem ghost and her archer wife, and fought a terrifying killer boss. Oh, and befriended this guy named Josh. He's chill.
Party is now level 7 btw, this happened over like 6 sessions-
