Taal Volcano rests in the middle of Taal Lake. Inside of the volcano is a smaller lake with an island in it. This is why it's often called an island within a lake, that is an island within a lake that is on an island, and in fact is the biggest of it's kind in the world. If that's not weird enough there's a type of snake in the inner lake that's found no where else on earth.. It is one of the smallest active volcanoes in the world and is the second most active volcano in the Philippines but don't worry, it is closely monitored. After a 15 minute boat ride from Tagaytay you arrive at the volcano & can hike or horseback up the volcano peak. The Spanish started construction on Intramuros in 1521 as a fort to defend Manila and its Spanish inhabitants from hostile forces. The quarter square mile area is completely surrounded by present day Manila is rich in history. Fort Santiago which protected the city from Chinese Pirates and was later used to torture Japanese solders in WWII now houses a Museum. The Philippine revolutionary hero Jose Rizal was jailed there before his executed.
