Some scattered Switch 2 thoughts:
It's releasing much sooner than I expected, at about the price that I expected, but ughhhhhh that game price increase fucking sucks. That genuinely killed a lot of my hype.
The thing is mostly just a bigger, more powerful Switch, which is what I wanted, so that's cool! Mouse functionality is interesting even though I doubt I'd use it a lot. Nothing too surprising tbh.
I'm most likely never touching that chat button unless it's by accident. Like, ever. Just not my thing.
Charging money for that tech demo/tutorial thing is the most Nintendo thing ever and it's both hilarious and incredibly sad. This manages to be even more egregious than 1-2-Switch.
Free upgrades to Switch 1 games is cool! Some games will really appreciate it (looking at you, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet). I hope the list isn't limited to what they already showed and they have more upgrades coming in the future.
Paid upgrades is obviously less cool but at least these seem to include extra content so I'm looking at them as if they were DLC. I'll be judging these on a case-by-case basis, with the price obviously being a big factor. At least BotW and TotK are free for NSO members, so that might be a good excuse to revisit them. And hey, in any case, this beats rereleasing the same game at full price like we saw with all those Wii U ports. I'll take it.
GameCube games! Yipee! Genuinely so hyped for this, I have sooooo much nostalgia for these games and this will make them much more accessible. Sad that this probably means Wind Waker HD will remain in Wii U hell for the time being though.
Mario Kart World looks genuinely really fucking cool. Interestingly this is the first time a Mario Kart game is a launch title. Nintendo probably saw the sales of 8 Deluxe and said "yeah, we need this Day 1" and I honestly can't blame them. xd
NEW 3D DONKEY KONG HOLY SHIT. I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, MY BOY IS BACK!!! Seriously I'm so hyped for this! I'm still a bit weirded out by DK's new design, but it's growing on me. He's so expressive! I can't wait to see more of this.
New Hyrule Warriors! Yay! I... still haven't played Age of Calamity, lol. But still, this is cool! Even though I would've preferred another Nintendo series to get the Warriors treatment rather than Zelda for the third time, I'm not complaining.
Kirby Air Riders! Never played the original Air Ride so I have no attachment to it, but I know it's a beloved title, and I'm happy to see Sakurai back for this. I guess this means no new Smash for a while, but it's fine, I can keep playing Ultimate for years.
Lots of third party support in general, which is nice to see. I recently got a PS5 so this isn't as relevant to me as it would've been a while ago (I can just play those games there), but seeing stuff like FFVII Remake is still really cool.
Nintendo-exclusive Bloodborne spiritual successor wasn't on my bingo card. These games aren't really my thing and this one seems to be focused on multiplayer so I'm even less interested, but still really funny to see. There was a cool rat person in the trailer though, I liked that.
Really surprised by no new 3D Mario. I thought we'd be seeing that for sure, with how long it's been since Odyssey. I guess DK Bananza is kinda taking that spot, so I'm not complaining! Give my boy the spotlight he deserves! Mario will come eventually.
Overall the console looks nice even if there's nothing incredibly surprising. While I'm really hyped about Mario Kart and DK, those aren't games I need to play on Day 1, so I'll probably wait. Especially considering that I just got a PS5. I also still have no idea how the pricing situation will be here in Chile. So... yeah, we'll have to wait and see. Lots of things to consider still.
Anyway. Decent first impressions with some ugly parts and some nice surprises. As a lifelong Nintendo fanboy I know I'll get a Switch 2 eventually, but I'm in no hurry. Probably. Still, a new console launch is an exciting time, and I'm glad we're finally getting concrete info on the damn thing after years of rumors, leaks and speculation, lol.
What did you all think?

What do you think Link and Zelda did togheter during the time betqeen botw and totk
I'VE THOUGHT VERY HARD ABOUT THIS
this wound up being on the longer side so i'm putting it all under the cut!
a few years have passed between BOTW and TOTK. they don't give us an exact amount of time, but based on context clues it's safe to assume that anywhere between 5-7 years have passed. personally, i think it's likely been 5 years. that's a considerable chunk of time.
i am very firmly in the camp that link and zelda, by the time TOTK rolls around, are a couple. either that, or they've at least vocalized their feelings for each other but have yet to label anything. the baseline is that they very obviously love each other.
post BOTW (but before the epilogue), i think that link brings zelda back to hateno immediately after freeing her. it's important to him that she has a safe place to recuperate and heal and knows that his home is the perfect place to take her.
he makes sure she eats and has plenty to drink. he makes sure she's doing okay. he offers her his bed (more like insists) and keeps a careful eye on her. zelda would feel guilty and maybe feel like she's intruding or being a burden, but link wouldn't hear it and would shut it down quickly.
link sleeps on the floor in the nook beneath the stairs for the first few nights because he wants her to have space and privacy. he usually winds up upstairs to wake her from bad dreams anyway. zelda doesn't sleep well (neither does he) and eventually, link starts sleeping either next to or at the foot of the bed to be close by if she needs him (he needs her just as much). sometimes, he holds her hand and sits with her until she falls back asleep. those nights, he keeps an eye on her. they get closer as the weeks go by and fall back into old patterns from 100 years ago. link remembers more.
when they set out to investigate the divine beasts, it feels so similar to their time traveling together from before. everything is different, but it's like nothing has changed in a way. after, they return to hateno. it's home for them both now without it needing to be verbally agreed upon.
she tells him that he's no longer obligated to follow her anymore and that he's free. zelda feels guilty. link tells her that he's not staying by her side out of an obligation, or because of some century-old duty. he wants to. he chooses her. he would follow her to the ends of the earth.
zelda builds the school. link stays by her side like glue. they fall into a routine, build a sense of normalcy, and live a life with each other as if they are each other's center of gravity.
eventually, they start sharing the bed. it was bound to happen sooner or later. link wound up beside her most nights anyway (this was zelda's exact reasoning. she insisted it was ridiculous for him to continue sleeping on the floor). they sleep much better beside each other.
they keep up the work of trying to rebuild hyrule. they stick by each other's sides through it all.
i really do think that at some point in between BOTW and TOTK, they wind up together. it just feels right to me. even before confirming it, i think that they both understand that their relationship isn't that of just friends, but they might still feel hesitant to cross that line for fear of ruining what they've so carefully built together. the mutual pining is UNREAL!
eventually, it comes out one way or another. they kiss.
when the gloom starts to appear around the kingdom and they head off to investigate under the castle, they are doing so the same way they do everything else: together.

Well, we didn't get anything on Twilight Princess, but Wind Waker is coming to Switch Online. And because they're adding Gamecube games now, TP will probably get added sooner or later.
Also, I'm hoping that that new Warriors game forcusing on ToTK won't pull an Age of Calamaty and create an alternate universe just to give us a "happy ending." Like ToTK's lore is already controvertial enough with the fandom, we don't need to pull the pin on that grenade.
I already have both BoTW and ToTK for my regular Switch, so I'm kinda iffy on those "enhanced" versions for Switch 2. It all depends on how much they'll cost. If they're like 10 euros or so, I'm fine with that because then it's like DLC basically.
But I will be getting the Switch 2.

Hi my friend sent me the request you did for them. And I love it so much
Can I request yandere gagons for yandere links playtonic x baby dragon's female reader ( been playing tears of the kingdom. And you can ride and climb the dragons.)
Like the found the little reader coming out of her egg and is kinda different then the other dragons she More like a naga dragon looking one but is to cute
Please and thank you ( I didn't know if you do ganondorf's so I put links on there to if you can't do the ganondorf s have a great day
Oot Ganondorf was a powerful sorcerer who was born to the Geurdo and raised by two witches. He has stolen from everyone and knows no bounds and murdered people, nothing can or will stand in his way. When he first finds your egg he's more confused with what's inside. Will you even hatch?
He doesn't know the power he holds but he can’t tell from the moment he sees your egg that you're his. The rare object is his birthright. In his eyes and no one was going to stop him from keeping it.
After some research he found out he came across a rare dragon egg. One that hadn't been seen in centuries. Despite it being such a rare gift the limits and knowledge on you were limited. He had no clue what to think, what you could or would do, or even how to raise you. He thought about passing you along to someone else to raise but as he kept you close and spent more time with you the two of you began to imprint on each other.
He brought you with him to Hyrule as he swore allegiance and he often rants to your egg about news and how the days pass. His plots and schemes remain his to know about but he loves to just talk to you. Once you hatch it's after the young hero emerges from the woods but before he faces or challenges Link.
The serpent-like creature was too small and weak to care for itself. He took care of you. Keeping you close all the time (not that you would stand to be put down) he kept you with him hidden in his pockets. Sneaking your food during meetings. You ate fruits and meats most happily and he was glad to see you thrive even in these conditions. It would take awhile until you grew up but he had hoped it would be sooner rather than later. He had plans that needed to go underway soon.
Wind waker Ganondorf has this deeper character to him where he states his reasons for wanting to take over Hyrule is so he can give his people a better life. While i dont think this is actually the case, I think it stems more from the fact that he believes by some sort of bid he owns hyrule by right and can rule it better. What better way to take it all over than a dragon?
Flying through the air or swimming in the ocean either way will be a wonderful tool for conquering. At first when he finds the egg he assumes he'll use you like a tool the same way he does his bird. Once you hatch though he takes one look into those beady little eyes and realises, no… No, I can't do that to this creature. He does care for even his bird (he uses chickens hidden around the rocky shores of his fortress as enrichment and will throw the hideous creature people who cross him for food to hunt down)  but he can't think of you as a tool. Not even as a pet.
You're intelligent, far more so than he would ever expect and you've… What's the word? Tamed? Imprinted? Like the rito- eh it doesnt matter.
He doesn't know how to care for you but you're very smart and intuitively the both of you work it out. As you grow older and his plans start to grow bolder as he starts to kidnap the maidens. He keeps you by his side for this. Planning to keep you safe and by his side for his final fight. Talking to you and keeping you safe as you grow older.
Totk Ganondorf would have found you while planning to challenge Raru. Leaving his kingdom to swear fealty also meant being able to travel through hyrule proper and taking claim to whatever he figured he might need. He found you hidden away in some temple and was skewed with jealousy. Raru never did know what power he wielded and this was just another show of it. Items of rare and extravagant power are best suited to those that would use them.
This man is tainted with hate and the moment he sees the egg he has his claws in you. Planning for what he'll do once you wake up. A dragon is a terrible thing to waste. He keeps you warm with blankets and hides you until he's back home. You sit still until it's time for you to hatch and he trusts few with the task of guarding you.
You're a very sweet dragon in comparison to his cool exterior.  He only allows you to circle his keep and to go no further than that, lest you be discovered before he can put his plans into motion. When he goes to kill Sonia and enact his revenge he takes you with him. Hiding you in the room he killed the queen in so you may witness his rise as king in front of zelda and everyone else.
When he manages to slip away you dash after him, remaining out of sight. He also takes you with him to the keep that was made his tomb. He knows that as an immortal dragon you're doomed to stay alive all those years without him, and it stops you from running off. He impressions you with him.
Unless you showed absolute fealty, keeping you here with him is a mercy. Otherwise he'd have to hunt you down and corrupt you with malice and neither of you would want that. He believes in you to stay there. Staying asleep until he wakes up himself. After damaging Link and ensuring Zelda is gone he goes underground with you by his side. Waiting for the fabled swordman to challenge him; he plans to fight with you by his side.

A Heart Sealed in Stone (TotK: Hero's Shadow)
Someone save me from the brain rot please
Ganondorf had to admit it – there were benefits to being allies to Hyrule.
Although his end game was to get his hands on a secret stone, the perks of being in Rauru’s good graces were apparent. Soon, he wouldn’t need Rauru’s blessing to enjoy such delights, though. He was looking forward to that.
In the meantime, he would appreciate a quiet moment with his family. The hot springs they’d settled at soothed his body like a massage in itself, and he sighed peacefully as he sank deeper into the water.
In a separate hot spring a few steps away, his wife and daughter relaxed. Hemisi was half asleep, arms wrapped around her mother’s left arm as she rested her head on her shoulder. Nabooru smiled at their daughter, gently kissing her head. When she looked over at Ganondorf, who watched both with a tender heart and a small smile, she winked at him, her lips pulling more. Ganondorf let out a small chuckle, silently communicating his love to his wife, and then her eyes drifted beyond him, motioning with her head.
Ganondorf followed her gaze, settling on the person in question.
Link stood at the edge of the springs, a gorge that bottlenecked any entry to the area. His sword was resting in his grip, settled on the ground while his hands were plopped on the hilt. It was a relatively relaxed posture, but a guarded one nonetheless.
“Link,” Nabooru called quietly so as not to awaken her daughter too much. The boy turned to look at them, a little confused. “Come here, sweetheart. You don’t need to keep guard.”
It was natural for the boy to do so, of course. He was a warrior, born of Sheikah and Hylian blood, bound by his people to serve the royal family. Ganondorf would have to start telling him soon that his loyalty would shift upon his marriage to Hemisi. The child seemed to know this already, spending steadily more and more time with the Gerudo, and it made Ganondorf smile. Hemisi was happy with Link, and he was a strong boy. He was as quiet as the breeze, simple in his words, but he would roar to life in battle. It made Ganondorf proud to see it, proud that this boy was soon to be part of his family.
Well. Relatively soon. Although by Sheikah standards the boy was of age, the age of adulthood among Hylians was seventeen, and to the Gerudo it was sixteen. The teenagers, in their youthful passions, had already promised themselves to each other and gotten engaged, but neither was at the age of consent by Ganondorf's reckoning, based on their dominant cultures. Their betrothal would last several years before Link was officially part of the family, but Nabooru seemed very keen to adopt him in sooner rather than later.
Ganondorf supposed there was merit to it. He was growing quite fond of the boy, and Link would likely not be of age when the war came. It was best to keep him close.
Link watched Nabooru hesitantly at her beckoning. He looked at Ganondorf next, seeing as the women and men were in separate pools. Ganondorf sighed, understanding the gesture, having started to grow used to the boy’s silent observations and questions. He held out an inviting hand. “Come here, Link.”
The fourteen-year-old walked with his sword in hand, eyes scanning the area constantly. When he reached the end of the pool, Ganondorf rose and walked until he reached the deeper center of the pool, eying him expectantly. Link hesitantly put his sword away, settling it on the ground, and stripped off his shirt and shoes. When he started to dip his toes into the water, he hesitated, gaze drifting back to the entrance.
Ganondorf swam over until his feet touched soil beneath him and held out both arms to the child. “You think I cannot protect all of us well enough, dear boy? Come on. You’re safe.”
Link stared at him a moment longer, debating the issue, debating whether to trust such a statement. Ganondorf almost felt a little insulted that it was even a matter to deliberate. But the boy gave in, reaching forward to take his hands. Ganondorf took a step towards him, slipping his hands under the boy’s shoulders, lifting him right off the ground and into the water in a careful hold. Link was stiff in his arms at first before relaxing into it. The two sank deeper into the water as Ganondorf carried him further into the spring – Link didn’t protest being ferried along in the water, as they both knew he wasn’t the strongest swimmer. Nabooru smiled lovingly when he locked eyes with her. Hemisi was out cold, making his heart swell with both love and amusement. His daughter felt perfectly safe with her parents around, even in such a foreign land. He… wanted Link to feel safe too.
Damn it all, he had grown attached to this silly child. But he was a good warrior, and though his gentle and kind heart was not exactly a strength in Ganondorf's eyes, he loved Hemisi dearly. Although he didn’t hold Ganondorf’s drive for power, he did have a fire in his soul, and the Gerudo king admired it. The boy would make a good prince.
Link hesitantly settled his chin on Ganondorf’s shoulder, looking out behind him. He was still keeping watch, though the Gerudo king felt the teenager’s body slowly ease up. It didn’t take long, with the moonlight casting a gentle glow that barely lit the world around them, before the boy had completely settled, his cheek pressed against Ganondorf’s skin, his breaths slow and steady in slumber…
It was curious, that such a memory would come to him now. On the precipice of his victory, Ganondorf had spent his time recovering his strength in the Depths of Hyrule. He knew it was only a matter of time before the light was snuffed out, before his blood moons stained the earth every night, before Hyrule was his. He rested with anticipation, but rarely with thoughts of the past. He supposed one could only envision victory for so long, though it was certainly entertaining. He could taste the salt of the sea, could feel the breeze of the valleys, could listen to the gentle pitter patter of rain in his mind, but what stopped his heart in its tracks were thoughts like these.
His family.
How strange, he thought, that they could possibly make his heart ache after all this time. How bizarre that, with victory so close at hand, with no one to stand in his way, the end goal felt almost empty in comparison.
How could it possibly feel like this? He had waited nearly his entire life for this moment. Perhaps he was simply disappointed that Rauru’s knight was so easily defeated. The Zonai king had placed such faith in him, after all – Ganondorf had been hoping for a challenge.
His heart stirred with restlessness. He scowled at it. Or, well, would have scowled if he had flesh on his face. He was certainly eager to regain enough strength to return to his original glory.
Perhaps he’d indulge in thinking about his family. He wasn’t sure what end it would lead to, or if it was even productive, but it wasn’t as if he had anything better to do while his minions chipped away at the world above.
He let his mind wander to his beloved wife first. Oh how he missed Nabooru. She’d had a fire to her veins, an iron will, a desire to fight and conquer just as he had. She had even helped him initially with the war – it wasn’t until he’d claimed the secret stone for himself that she’d turned against him. That thought alone soured his mood, but still… the challenge it presented, dueling his wife time and again as he had… he enjoyed that too. But perhaps he wished that she had eventually yielded, perhaps the thought that he would make her bend to his will made him more nostalgic than he had any right to be. As the Sage of Lightning, his wife had been formidable (and he certainly had felt a more than tad bitter that she had protested his supposed abuse of secret stones and then had willingly accepted one from Rauru). He doubted there was a Gerudo warrior, even now, who was her equal.
Next, he thought of his daughter. Hemisi was every bit her parents’ child, holding the fiery energy of her mother with the brashness of her father. She had been a skilled warrior in her own right, and though her ambitions did not match her parents’, she still had them. Hemisi had wanted to lead the Gerudo people, had wanted to bring her land to prosperty. More than that, though, she’d wanted a family – her relationship with Link and subsequent betrothal was evidence of that.
They certainly would have made quite the powerful couple.
That led his thoughts to Link. Bearing Sheikah and Hylian blood alike, he practically embodied every culture Ganondorf despised. It was the most ironic turn of events that the man had grown to love the boy. But how could he not? Link was strong, faithful, stubborn beyond all reason, curious and eager to learn, even playful at times. The boy could hold the innocence of a child and the resolve of a hardened soldier and balance the two perfectly.
Nabooru had tried to coddle the boy a little too much, but Ganondorf supposed that was simply what mothers did. He’d appreciated Link as the warrior he was. Most of the time. Very occasionally he might have babied him a little too. Very occasionally.
The memory of the hot spring came to mind, and he huffed. Technically, Nabooru had instigated it.
This train of thought was taking him nowhere. All he was doing was making himself feel emptier. He was soon to be king of all of Hyrule, and then spread his power beyond that land alone. This was not productive. Moping was ill-befitting a king.
Sighing, Ganondorf let the images of his family go. He stretched his senses to his minions. He could hardly tell what was going on with simple minded beasts, but his gloom hands and his puppets could show him images of the world both above and below. He felt amusement tickle him as his puppet of the Sage of Time continued to baffle and sabotage the fools of Hyrule. He let curiosity guide him as he followed the path of some gloom spawn in the Depths. It had discovered ruins of some sort.
Ganondorf had to admit, he was definitely interested in seeing how his era and those that had passed had been memorialized. While he was not much of a dilettante of history, this history included him and his people, which made it worth noting. Exactly how much time had passed anyway? He was still trying to ascertain that.
Judging by the state of the ruins the gloom spawn had found, it had certainly been a while. Also, where was everyone? The Depths were completely abandoned, and the mines down here had been thriving when he’d been sealed away. He had supposed that the area where he’d been held captive was restricted, but he hadn’t realized that they had evacuated everyone from the world down here. He wondered if anyone had set foot in the Depths since his battle with Rauru.
His battle with Rauru. He gritted his teeth a little. He had not expected the Zonai to be able to get so close to him, honestly, but he had always loved a good fight. The only thing that made it hurt was—
Rauru’s Light magic was powerful, to be sure. But Ganondorf would have expected such power to sap him of energy, to try perhaps even to destroy his secret stone. The main reason Rauru was able to seal him away, at the cost of his own life, was due to the anchor provided him by Link.
His face pulled in both fear and agony, tears glistening in his eyes as Ganondorf held him.
“Foolish child,” Ganondorf growled through a tight throat.
Link’s breath stuttered, making Ganondorf’s heart freeze. No. This was not happening. The fifteen-year-old reached forward with a shaking hand, grasping at what would have been Ganondorf’s cloak before the secret stone’s power had transformed him. For an instant he let the power recede, he let himself look as he had. Link’s eyes widened, and the tears finally traced down his cheeks. His gaze drifted down to Ganondorf’s chest, and he squeezed his eyes closed.
Ganondorf debated the matter, very aware of his surroundings. The sages were still there, as was the king. He could retreat with the child and try to save him, or he could push through and destroy all of them. He distinctly sensed Nabooru’s eyes on him, but he didn’t dare look.
“P-please,” Link whispered, barely audible above his gasping. Ganondorf stared at him, paralyzed for an instant, hating every second of it. “Please stop this.”
Stop? Oh, you foolish boy… He couldn’t stop. He wouldn’t. Not permanently. But, perhaps, this battle should end.
He wouldn’t have another opportunity like this, though. The sages were weakened, defeated even. They’d tried their best to fight him and had failed. If he let them regroup…
He was already giving the enemies too much time. Fighting them had been nearly laughable, though. He could give them a chance to regain a little bit of their strength, he supposed.
Before he could do anything, though, Link inhaled sharply, eyes opening with determination. Ganondorf grew confused, maybe even hopeful that the boy wasn’t quite as injured as he’d previously suspected, and then—
Link stabbed him.
Ganondorf yelled as the blade pushed true, releasing the boy, who fell and rolled down the stairs, staying motionless where he stopped. Enraged, he wrapped himself in his dark power once more, ignoring the cry from the others—the anguish from Nabooru—and the fight continued.
Ganondorf turned his head slightly, tasting bitterness in his mouth. He tried to distract himself, looking back at what the gloom hands had found, when he registered the sight of what they had stopped in front of.
A tomb?
Oh, he was certainly curious now. He urged his dark minion to find some kind of engraving. Whoever this person was, they had to be important to have such a memorial. It was familiar of those of the royal family, the Zonai flair and importance evident. It was a stone gazebo in the Zonai architecture, with a stone engraving in the center of the soil held within, marking the spot of the burial. All around it were flowers that thrived in the Depths, and a single, curious blue and white flower that was somehow thriving despite not being native to this region. As the gloom spawn crawled closer to the grave, the singular flower glowed brightly in response, almost in defiance.
Ganondorf ignored it, though. He sat up with a jolt.
He-- -i-s L--k
H-ro o- -yru-- and Rau-u’- El-te
Bel-v-d --- -nd ------
Prid- -f t-e Sh-i---
The air was still, his body frozen.
Could it be…?
For the first time since his awakening, breath escaped him with a shaky rasp and a singular word, thick with emotion.
“…Link?”

What Do You Think? Can We Do It?
(Originally posted on AO3 on 2/23/23. You can also find this on fanfiction.net)
A pre-calamity botw/totk zelink fic with slight canon complaint and hurt/comfort. Zelda has just returned from The Spring of Power only for her father to become stressed and disappointed again. She goes off into the forest, and Link tries to come up with a solution to calm her nerves.
Leaves crunched harshly beneath the princesses boots as she stomped into the forest. Birds flew out of the apple trees out of the fear of her groans. In contrast, a soft breeze accompanied her on the trail, along with the short knight that walked a few feet behind her. She was used to him at this point, he won't leave no matter how much she begged. It's his job after all. But she later found his presence comforting, as she felt much less lonely than before, despite him being as quiet as a rock. Maybe his silence is just what she needed after a long day. Maybe she needed him more than she knew. But even still, a hot overwhelming feeling built up inside her no matter how many times she shouted.
"Why won't he just understand already?!" Zelda shrieked. "What part of 'There's nothing more I can do' does he not get?! If I could awaken my powers right now—I would!" She kicked the hard ground, bruising her foot. She winced, but went right back to ranting. "It's not like I'm trying to put everyone in suspense as Ganon comes closer, he knows that! He knows that I've been praying and training within every second I can, so why is he just so? So!?"
She fumbled with her words, and continued yelling and kicking to release her frustration deep within. Link only watched, standing there a bit awkwardly.
"You agree, right?!" She suddenly turned to him. "That he's being foolish? More ignorant than anyone on Earth? Like, seriously, what does he not understand?! I'm not just some war machine that you can turn on and off! Praying at this point is useless!"
He was intimidated by such a question. Not because Zelda scared him—far from it—more like what would happen if he were to voice his opinion. He agrees, her father is far too harsh on her. Link has seen her put all of her effort into awakening her powers..and yet, nothing. He wanted to stand up for her, and help find more ways to put an end to Calamity Ganon, but this is the king of Hyrule we're talking about. Link is nothing more than a teeny knight hired to look after Zelda. One word of contradiction, and only Hylia knows what'd happen next.
So he ended up staying silent as always, standing firmly in place. But he decided to at least try to give her a sympathetic look. He couldn't just leave her hanging, not like this.
"Right!" She knew he wasn't going to speak anyhow. At least it was something. "We have the Guardians, the Champions, and a stellar army and weaponry! If we all work together, we could take Ganon down! So why am I the only one constantly pressured?!" The last sentence was said with a cry, which caught Link off guard. Zelda's vexation had a whole new meaning now, and he cursed himself for not realizing it sooner.
The knight allowed himself to relax, with his shoulders drooping and his eyes widening. He watched as the princess walked up to a tree and slumped down, pressing her knees against her chest. A heavy feeling in his heart rose, and he couldn't help but to sit beside her.
Her voice cracked and broke, and Zelda spoke more quietly than Link has ever heard from her before. "I'm so tired, Link. So..so tired..I don't know what to do or where to go next. I've prayed to spirits, shrines, statues, The Spring of Courage, The Spring of Power and…nothing, neither worked. Have my ancestors suffered this much? I-is there something wrong with me? What else do I need to do?! Everyone could die at any moment and I can't do anything!"
An eruption of hot tears flooded her face, and she flushed with a deep red. Impulsively, Link cupped her face in his hands, catching and wiping away the droplets. Though caught off guard by such a sudden gesture, Zelda couldn't help but to keep sobbing. Her face was held close, and Link could see much more details than before. Her eyes had dark and deep circles underneath, and her hair was much more messy and unkempt than usual. She must have been staying up much later than she should be; most likely to study and pray, Link concluded. The knight rubbed her warm face with his thumbs, gently tracing circles on her cheeks, and she managed to subdue her cries into the form of quiet whines and sniffles. He had a feeling this technique would calm her down, he always did this whenever his little sister—Aryll—was wailing over something like her kite flying away in the wind, or stubbing her toe against a table. He always did this to the one he cared about, and now he gets to do it again but with a whole new meaning.
The next step was to try and think of a way to help the situation. He didn't know much about magic or spirits or gods or whatever, and it seemed like they were out of options, but he needed to think of something. He couldn't bare to see Zelda in so much despair anymore. So he skimmed through his mind and thought, and thought, and thought, and thought…..
The springs!
They've gone to two out of three of the springs, The Spring of Courage, and The Spring of Power. There's one left, The Spring of Wisdom.
Link released Zelda's face and pulled out his Sheikah Slate, showing her the location of where he suggests to go next. She leaned in and took a look, examining the area.
"I can't go there yet..you have to be at least seventeen years old to enter."
Link raised his eyebrow, and she immediately knew what he was asking. "My birthday is in about two weeks, but we can't afford to waste so much time! Wh-what if.."
Her hands turned into fists, and they trembled, indicating the worst thoughts imaginable. The knight took them into his, rough and covered with scars. The princess unraveled her balled up hands, allowing herself to relax, just for a moment. Her hands were surprisingly a bit bigger than his, Link figured maybe it's because she physically matured faster compared to him, if that even correlates to the former topic. But he held her hands anyways, tracing the veins that covered her knuckles. He thought about kissing them as gently as he could, if it would mean relieving her stress further, and showing that he adored her more than she knew. But it remained just that, a thought. They have more pressing matters, after all.
Finally, Zelda took a deep breath, and stared down at her hands enclosed in her knights one last time, and then looked into his honest eyes. "Then, it's settled. I'll tell my father our plan, and then we'll prepare to leave." A twinge of concern revealed on her face once more. "Do..do you think I can do it in time?"
All he did was smile kindly, giving her the most genuine look he ever has. Suddenly, she wasn't so scared anymore.

btw if you guys want to pirate, modify, or emulate nintendo games & consoles, you should download everything you need and figure out how to do that sooner rather than later. nintendo tends to be more strict about stuff like that directly in and around the releases of game titles. not entirely sure how this translates to releases of entire consoles but it's definitely better safe than sorry.
this is mostly based off years of following a couple of nintendo series (splatoon and tloz respectively.) remember when pointcrow got all his content about modded botw taken down right as totk was coming out? [source]
it's not as close to a release date, but nintendo was much stricter about modded splatoon 3 content within the first year of its release. octoboy almost had some videos created with a camera mod taken down, but i believe he managed to fight the ban, because the original videos are still up. [source 1] [source 2] [one of the videos]
this is a bit youtube-focused, but i picked these specific examples because i could find clear evidence of it. game piracy, modding, and emulation aren't going to disappear just because switch 2 is dropping. but you don't know which sources are going to get hit first. and if you know anything about nintendo, you know they can be ruthless about it. plus, i think it's worth talking about because of how useful youtube is for finding demonstrations of how to safely modify your consoles, set up emulators, etc. get all your stuff working now before that information harder to track down.
nintendo bootlickers get lost btw, this post isn't for you. "but this stuff is illegal it's within their right to-" go argue about that somewhere else, this post isn't about that. if game mods aren't being used against you why do you gaf. also, using cheats in pvp games is obnoxious and should probably get you banned from the game, but using them and talking about them shouldn't be Literally Illegal

If no one’s said 1 for BotW or ToTK yet I’ll be surprised-
Tumblr media
For all of Revali's near chiding encouragement as Link worked his way through Medoh there is silence between them after the blight has been scourged from it. He expects Revali to have something to say, some kind of remark, anything. But he looked at Link with such a fond sadness, and it hurts. So he speaks first.
"Its been a hundred years, don't you have anything to say?" He doesnt mean for it to come out as desperate as it does, but after everything they had, everything they went through what he wants from Revali is words. He doesnt care how sharp they are, he just wants something other than sadness in those eyes, "Insults? The rare compliment? Something?"
The phantom of Revali hesitates and then snaps, "You weren't there! You said - you said you would always come if i needed you, and you didnt! You left me to die alone! Link you promised me... and then you broke it. I had to wait a century to see you again, and, you're so different now..."
Link had expected anger, not genuine anger, but the theatrical sort that Revali always hid behind because that was always easier than speaking his mind. But this was real.
Link looks down at his hands for a moment, trying to flex the cold out of his finger tips. "I... I was dead too. Im sorry i couldnt be here, there was no where else i wanted to be in that moment, but here with you and Medoh. But I was bleeding out in a field. I would have come to you first, but i couldnt remember- "
Revali hushes him, a gentle chitter from his beak that he often did when Link was getting hysterical, "You're here now, you came back. I had a centry to stew over this, and... i didnt think i would see you again." He smiles and reaches to caress Link's cheek but his feathers pass through and they both hesitate, "Just promise me that after you rub Ganon's nose in this that you will come back, sooner than another century."
"This will be the first and last place I come to when this ends. I promise."

some final zelda thoughts
TotK's plot is like. super obviously just a better iteration of BotW's plot, to the point that BotW not happening at all would change basically nothing about TotK. there's even the visual of Calamity Ganon around Hyrule Castle replicated better with the Demon Dragon emerging from the depths
anyways. i liked it overall though i wish they had committed to the Dragon Zelda thing or at least had her at-all affected by being a dragon for like 1000 years. "do time travel to help zelda" would also have been a decent sequel hook but i guess every zelda game has to end with the status quo restored
the triforce For Sure still exists and is relevant, also, despite it never being named. it's (to me) the only sufficient explanation for why Ganondorf and Zelda both get so massively buffed by their Secret Stones- and plus the "Zelda cradling the Master Sword" memory kind of confirms this with the gold light coming out of the back of her right hand
timeline stuff: at the very least, Rauru's Hyrule probably isn't The Literal First Hyrule, since Sonia has time powers (an established Hylia thing) and Triforce tattoos on her arms, and it would be weird for her to have both of those things in a Hyrule where the Triforce is not visibly relevant at all. plus it would be extra weird considering the references to other Zelda games in BotW/TotK where Ganondorf appears- like, Twilight Princess Ganondorf existing while TotK's Ganondorf is still in stasis under Hyrule Castle doesn't make a whole lot of sense, considering the latter is implied to be alive the whole time
the four main temples absolutely needed to be longer, though. Lightning Temple was the best of the bunch and it still ended way sooner than it should have. the Water and Fire temples were like. aggressively simple as well (even including the "town" segments leading up to them), with the Wind temple being pretty much average. the whole Zonai Ruins/Dragonhead Island/Spirit Temple section was really cool and I actually enjoyed that whole stretch more than Gerudo Town/Lightning Temple.
the biggest disappointment re: temples though (aside from the lack of dungeon items) was that the area leading up to Ganon was just like 3 hallways full of enemies. i was really hoping for some kind of depths version of hyrule castle down there, like a proper last dungeon
fight with Ganondorf was pretty cool but i still really fucking hate the way Flurry Rush works. it literally feels random. sometimes i would backflip/sidestep *way* too early and get the rush, whereas sometimes doing that would just get me swatted as soon as i land or just Nothing would happen.
final nitpick: tying the Sage powers to the Physical Location Of An NPC With Bad Pathfinding That You Can't Call Back To You was an absurdly fucking stupid decision and i want to find whoever at nintendo had that idea so i can bash their face with a frying pan. put the fucking sage powers on D-Pad Down (Hold) please

No Tears of the Kingdom for me until USPS delivers the damn thing, but I beat my run of Breath of the Wild tonight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kind of rushed through it, especially toward the end when I started looking up all the remaining shrines I had left to complete. It's not an ideal way to play unless you're a speed runner, but BOTW for me is a long con that takes well over a month to beat. I probably could have taken my time just a bit more since I knew my copy of TOTK would not be here today. But I also maybe should have started sooner...but Mario brain would not let me. I was too high off of the movie. Anyway... despite all that, I still had an amazing time.
It's not perfection but this is exactly what I needed the next Zelda game to be after I was severely disappointed with Skyward Sword. And it's what I hope Zelda continues to be, but more refined, and slowly re-integrating what worked from the old formula...
Frankly, I don't want to ever fully go back to the old formula. I don't see any reason to. I think they nailed it the very first time and have not improved on it in any meaningful way. All the 3D games that came after OOT, followed that blueprint, but they all essentially took a swing at the king and they all missed... the old formula can live on in the form of 2D Zelda, which I don't think is going anywhere. Besides Ocarina, my favorite Zelda game is the original game on the NES. And playing this game felt a lot like playing both of them for the fist time again. And being able to go where I want with an obvious intended path very much reminds me of Zelda 1.
When I first played this game, I had a gut feeling... that this would be my new favorite Zelda game for several years, but the instant they released another one that expands on the foundation of BOTW, it's going to plummet down my ranking, dethroned by it's successor. And I do hope that ends up being true... but I also hope there will still be a reason to come back to this one. If not... well I'm just glad I got to take one more adventure before Hyrule changed. Ah... on this play through, I did the main quest as soon as I could, and then the Champions Ballad as soon as I could, because my god the Master Cycle Zero is the best thing that has ever been in a Zelda. I don't use horses, but you can't get me off of Master Cycle zero for anything... it's still wild that this concept was born in Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and made it's way to canon Zelda games... did not do trial of the sword though. Fuck that. Once was enough. Got all 120 shrines because I did want to get that Wild Armor set... I don't dislike Link's new look, but to me, Link's color will always be green... and if the Tunic of the Wild is not in TOTK, I will be doing most of my adventuring in the Hylian Tunic dyed green, assuming the dye shop is still in business... if the wild set is in the game, I sure hope it's not an end game reward. I want to have stuff to do besides looking for Korok seeds in the iconic green outfit. Now what to do with myself while i'm still waiting for TOTK to arrive...

ok Switch 2 Direct response comp
Hell yeah Mario Kart: Chill edition. I also dig the mode that seems like it's trying to prevent bagging
I'm in full support of all improvements made to the hardware
I'm not spending a single dollar on an Enchanced Switch game
The stream itself lagged and froze for a good chunk of time. GameChat experience foreshadowing, I'm calling it right now. so cool if it works smoothly though
Idk why I would ever, EVER, get a webcam for my console. I'm currently slumped on the floor with messy hair and God's Sloppiest Clothes, no one needs to see me like that. Also I've already had the experience of being perpetually stared at in my own living room by a Kinect. No thanks, I'm already getting stalked by enough of my devices
Mouse mode is a cute gimmick for small features or mini games but I'm wary of titles that are completely built off of the feature. Looks like hand cramps waiting to happen
I haven't played Hyrule Warriors before, is it fun? I like the idea of playing as Zelda, but I really didn't like TotK like that so the new game doesn't woo me otherwise
I still haven't played Deltarune oops
I'm not celebrating Silksong until the moment that game is in my cart. Actually scratch that. The moment that it's downloaded on my computer and I press play. Not a second sooner. yes I believe it's actually coming this year I'm just jaded ok?
Exclusive new FromSoft title??????? I don't even play those games and that had *my* jaw on the floor. nevermind my fiance, the actual FromSoft fan who suddenly has no interest in this title
It's cool to see other titles like Elden Ring coming to the console, but as a PC gamer my eyes glazed over for most of those announcements

heehoo i loke your Links, stuff abt them plz??
Oh hi! Sorry I didn’t get to this sooner! I didn’t check my tumblr for a hot second oops
But yes I’d love to talk about them! For botw/totk Link, I’m waiting to actually buy and play the game before I fully solidify him. I’ll give a brief rundown of each of them here, but feel free to ask more about any specific Link :)
Skyward Sword:
Tired in multiple ways. He was more carefree before the start of his adventure, but there are a lot of reasons to be concerned about these days, especially when you’re babysitting your reincarnations, some of which are older than you
That’s not to say he doesn’t know how to chill out and sit back. Given permission, he will instantly drop all responsibilities on whoever is left to deal with it
23 y/o
Huge sweetheart once you get him to stop worrying about things
Potential nicknames: Cloudy, Floater, Feathers
Minish Cap/Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures
I have an explanation for the timeline nonsense I swear. Don’t worry about it
Generally friendly, enthusiastic, and thoughtful, but he has his moments of absolute impulse. Knows far more than he should… probably. He very much enjoys being mysterious just because he’s a little gremlin
He hates being timed
20 y/o
Potential nicknames: Forge, Smith, Mini
Is currently undergoing a redesign
Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask
He’s in his edgy teen phase. Moody and has disdain for authority, but he’s still got that undeniable kindness in him. Avoids attachment but just can’t help himself
Mostly homeless, as he’s usually traveling, but he’s always got a home at Lon Lon Ranch with his friend Malon. Kakariko likes him, too.
17 y/o
Potential nicknames: Mask, Eyepatch, Sapling
A Link to the Past/the Oracle games/Link’s Awakening
Most people’s first impressions of him are that he’s quite untrusting and melancholy and that he’s very competent. Once he gets used to someone, though, he’ll open up and mess with them like an annoying sibling. Very clever, knowledgeable, and a jack of all trades. Curiosity will be his downfall
Helps his Uncle run the apple orchard. Has expanded it into farming berries as well
17 y/o
Potential nicknames: Collector, Cartographer, Pinky, Apples
A Link Between Worlds/Triforce Heroes
Very cheerful and friendly. Highly skilled in the arts, though he hasn’t had the chance to mess with yarnwork yet. Low self-esteem but only expresses it in the most concerningly casual ways
Fantastic liar. He fully blames Ravio for this
19 y/o
Potential nicknames: Artisan, Painter, Mirror
Zelda 1/Adventure of Link
At first glance, he is already done with everyone's bullcrap, but really he's a very patient and considerate guy. He is incredibly blunt about things, though. Not as suspicious of people as he probably should be, but hey, what's one more crazy thing happening?
Loves discovering new things. Has a soft spot for soft things like pillows and fairies. Tone deaf.
21 y/o
Potential nicknames: Mage, Explorer, Adventurer, Calatian
Twilight Princess
Generally quiet and reserved but will step in when he deems it necessary. Skilled at keeping the group wrangled. He is fiercely protective of his loved ones and is not as responsible as he comes off as
Doesn't turn into a wolf often. Alternates between helping out Mayor Bo with Ordon and taking commissions for the Resistance
24 y/o
Potential nicknames: Goatherd, Farmer
Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass
Friendly in a loud, boisterous sort of way, but when it comes down to it, he can quiet down and become reliable and responsible if he needs to. Fairly easygoing until he sets his mind onto something, in which case, he's going to accomplish his goals one way or another
Finds the others while mapping out the new continent, so for all intents and purposes, he basically goes missing. Does not like birds.
27 y/o
Potential nicknames: Pirate, Sailor, Sea Dog
Spirit Tracks
usually soft-spoken and polite, but will get a bit louder the more comfortable he is. Much better at puzzles and mechanics than swordfighting. Still works as a royal engineer and is good friends with his Zelda
He sees dead people :/
15 y/o
Potential nicknames: Engineer, Piper, Steam, Conductor
Hyrule Warriors
snarky in a friendly way and will joke around to lighten the mood, but he can be perfectly serious when he needs to be. A natural and skillful leader. Loves kids and dabbles in fashion
Regrets that he has to leave his era’s Hyrule because he’s got a duty to the kingdom, but his Zelda insisted that he went. After all, he’s got his duty as a hero, too
32 y/o
Potential nicknames: Commander, Sir, Ser
Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom
very honest with his emotions and thoughts, and he will habitually go off and do things on his own without waiting for anyone else. Doesn't quite understand social conventions
Thought the others were either very creative yiga or very lost travelers when he first met them
20 y/o
Potential nicknames: Archer, Survivalist, Champion

y'know I said I would be happy if they put more champions content into totk. if I got that from the trailer.
I probably should have been more specific about which champions I meant, but I AM NOT COMPLAINING. you know urbosa would be so fucking proud of riju growing up and kicking ass, both riju and tulin being older,, SIDON!
(I am. very very worried about the Visible Lack Of Teba I am choosing to believe that he's just offscreen somewhere.)
I have said that the game might actually be worth 70 dollars, which are some bold fucking words coming from me in particular. don't expect me to repeat them, and I will not be preordering shit because you need to have a plushie involved (or a blanket?) for me to preorder a game.
but. holy fuck. I'll be checking it out sooner rather than later, that's for sure. game looks really good!

Lots of factors contribute to this trend, too, esp in the AAA game space! (spoiler: they're all #capitalism lmao)
Reviewers know they'll get more clicks the sooner they publish their review, since it will be fresher in the public's minds, and they need to compete with other reviewers (more traffic to their site = more ad revenue). Game publishers know they'll sell more copies of their game the sooner favorable reviews come out. So, big publishers take the obvious course of action: sending out advance copies of their game to select reviewers to play, so that the reviewers have time to get a review up by the game's release date, or even a couple days before! Essentially, earlier reviews = more money for all involved.
Already you can see an implicit flaw here -- reviewers need to keep a good relationship with the publishers in order to continue receiving advance copies of the game! While no publisher would openly admit to requiring an X-or-higher score, there's certainly unspoken pressure on the reviewer to appear as "fair" as possible. This may be why you see more leniency towards...
Bugs and glitches!! These can range from silly little quirks, to immersion-breaking frustrations, to full crashes that can ruin the entire game experience! These used to be a home run for game reviewers, because it lets them appear fair but honest ("While there's a lot to love here, the game is held down by its constant crashes"). You don't need to form a nuanced assessment of whether a game is fun if it literally doesn't run. However! Every game now has the ability to patch updates even after the game is out. Virtually nobody will experience the game as it exists on the printed disc anymore. Day-1 patches have become industry-standard, where immediately upon a game's release, it has an update.... and remember, reviewers want to have a review ready to print by the time this happens! So now, reviewers tend to hand-wave bugs as pesky little things to be ironed out later, or even something that may already be fixed by the time a consumer gets their hands on it! Did you know that in some cases devs even create a special patch just for reviewers, so they can be judged on something closer to a Day-1 patch? They're literally playing a different version of the game, so it's much easier to give a higher score even if something game-breaking happens, as a show of good faith that it will get fixed (and an indirect bid to the publisher to continue receiving advance copies).
And finally, the size and scope of games has gotten so, so big that it's frankly unreasonable for a reviewer to give an adequate assessment of the entire experience. It's just not possible given the time frames. Even with an advance copy, if a game takes 100+ hours to complete (think critical darlings like Elden Ring or Zelda: TotK), that's nearly 3 work weeks of full, 8-hr days!! At the most charitable reading, it will not reflect the average player's experience to marathon through like that... and that's to say nothing of things like New Game+, experimenting with all the possible builds, approaching missions in multiple ways, etc. Then extend this to live service games, behemoths like FFXIV or Fortnite that invite players to log in every single day and experience an endless churn of new content, games that are happy to become your lifestyle if you let them... it's impossible for any single reviewer to capture the full scope of this! So they do what they can, play what they can, and use that experience to fill in the blanks. And at that point, why NOT be a little more generous with the score, for all the reasons mentioned above?
Big fat TL;DR: Video games as a medium, notably in the AAA space, are so big and ever-changing they're nearly impossible to fully review, and the extreme pressures of immediacy in online journalism force reviewers and publishers to make compromises both schedules and scoring to maximize revenue through clicks/copies sold.
I don't often listen to the mcelroys / the besties anymore, but I needed something to listen to that wasnt a fuckin bummer while im cleaning... and the second half of their armored core 6 episode really hit home lol griffin was talking about how he quit doing video game reviews / critique because it isn't about speaking about the art form & journalism anymore. it's about Branding™ and advertising and being "appealing". there's no truth to it. and when peer reviews come in, the numbers are fucking meaningless!!!!!! because ppl will give a game a perfect score and then in the LAST paragraph be like "well yeah there's some game breaking bugs" as an after thought and its???????? BRUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I feel the same fucking way. I have scathing critique of video games but it isn't because I'm trying to be a miserable person who hates fun. it's because I love games as art, very much! and the glaringly obvious shit that (ESPECIALLY) AAA studios get away with and then get rated with perfect scores across all media outlets is simply fucking jarring to me and he was like saying how having these standards & opinions on the video games he'd review was fucking ostracizing bc nobody else he worked with had these passions or nuance with their critiques and I was like girl. me too lmfao

Shiv Mantra to Impress Girls & Women or Mohini Vidhya ( मोहिनी विद्या) is an ancient science of attraction in Hindu religion.
