Here's the character list for who's who in my Danganronpa x Hamilton musical AU thing

Hamiliton Musical of 78' AU

Alexander Hamilton - Kiyotaka Ishimaru

He wasn't going to audition at first since he's never watched Hamilton before, but after a mandatory movie night watch with the entire class so they could 'study' the musical, he decided to try out for Hamilton himself

Taka absolutely loves Hamilton's passion and drive throughout the musical. He doesn't like the occasional cursing (and actively despises the affairs, both emotional with Angelica and physical with Maria), but he tries to look past it because it's all just an act afterall. He wouldn't actually curse if he were picked for the part (and definitely would not cheat on any future love interests)

He studies Hamilton HARD. Just as hard as the homework and topics that are discussed in class. He watched the entire musical 6 times over just to make sure he knew everyone's lines, moves, and personality. It doesn't matter that he was only going to be playing Alexander Hamilton, he still needs to know everyone else's lines too

Sayaka is his biggest hype man when he was practicing his lyrics before the rehearsal. Did he stumble over a line? That's ok, practice it a couple of times with me then try again! Can't hit a particular high note? Try this method she learned during a routine practice she was doing with her bandmates! Nervous before the audition? Look to the side of the stage, she'll be right there smiling and silently singing with you!

Hina is also like that, but with the dancing parts. Need advice for singing and dancing at once without getting tired quickly? She's got him, here's a technique she learned from swimming competitions!

Don't get me started on how loud they (and Mondo) screamed when Taka got the lead role. You would've thought there was a fire, or someone was attacking the school

He's still not over the cursing thing, but he'll manage! Somehow...

Aaron Burr - Mondo Owada

You thought he screamed loud for Taka? Wait until you hear what he did when he found out about his own role

He cried. Very hard.

It was almost scary how expessive he was after finding out he was gonna play THE Aaron Burr

"KYOUDAI! TAKA! KIYO! OH MY FUCKING GOD! TAKA! TAKA! TAKA TAKA TAKA TAKA! WHERE'S CHI? OH MY GOD! I GOT TELL CHI TOO! OH MY GOD!"

This man's happiness could not be contained

He practiced his ass off though so he definitely deserved his role. He was right there with Taka for the 6 viewings (plus the movie night viewing) of Hamilton

After just watching the musical, he started practicing singing. Considering he already knew the musical like the back of his bike before this, it didn't take much practicing to get every single line down for... Hercules Muligan.

That's right! He auditioned for Mulligan! Not Burr.

He definitely didn't think he was good enough to play the Narrator of the musical so the supporting friend of the MC will have to do.

He chose Mulligan mostly because of the man's lines. He sings in, like, 3 songs and most of the lines were about fighting, having sex, getting drunk, or being a spy. Cool ass guy with a cool ass voice. Right up Mondo's alley

The dancing was pretty simply to figure out too since it was mostly background choreography that he already memorized when he was 13. When he was back at home with Daiya, belting out the lyrics and dancing stupidly in the middle of the living room

After the wave of initial excitement, he realizes the responsibility that comes with being the narrator and the MAIN FREAKING ANTAGONIST AND HAVING TO 'KILL' HIS KYOUDAI OH GOD HOW IS HE GONNA DO THING?? BURR HAS LIKE 3 SOLOS AND A 2 WHOLE DUETS WITH HAMILTON AND SO MUCH STUPID DANCING AND-

Eliza Schuyler - Sayaka Maizono

No-one was surprised by this to be honest. Considering Eliza is the other lead besides Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, it would make sense to choose someone who knows exactly how to carry the show when needed

Sayaka practiced pretty hard so she could be Eliza. No offense to the other girls, but she was practically born to be the main Schuyler sister! She's the best at singing and acting since she already has the experience so all she really had to focus on is practicing the lines (and Jesus does Eliza have a lot)

Of course, she celebrated with her bandmates after breaking the news to them. Not everyone in the group knows Hamilton that well, but they still had some fun having a karaoke party and singing the songs

She did have to plead with her manager to get the month and a half off of concerts to go to the practices. It took a lot of compromising (along with some promises that her fans would surely pay to come and see her), but eventually, the crabby old man agreed on the condition that she does some in-between photoshoots to make up for her otherwise radio silence towards her fans

Sayaka immediately began practicing her lines with Taka after finding out about her role. It's a little awkward to pretend to be in love with him, but they end up laughing about it throughout the rehearsal whenever they have to be affectionate towards each other, so that helps a bit

Angelica Schuyler - Aoi Asahina

Hina decided her role through the process of elimination. She doesn't want to be Eliza since she knows Sayaka is going for that role (and she would KILL as the Female Lead!). She doesn't want to be Maria or Peggy since there's only 1 song that they sing in, and she wants to dance and sing as much as possible! (These strong lungs and athletic limbs are made just for that, and they will NOT be going to waste!) Angelica is perfect! She's in a couple songs and is one of the main-side characters, she also has a whole solo where she gets to sing as loudly as possible about two of her friends! The context of the song might not be positive, but when has negativity ever stopped Hina?

She joins in on the practice sessions that Taka and Sayaka hold and joins in on one of the re-watches with Taka and Mondo

She, of course, has one on one sessions with Sayaka to improve her vocal cords. Going from loudly screaming the lines to passionately singing the lyrics

She practiced her choreography with Taka and Sakura, she asked Chihiro to join as well, but they ended up denying while poorly hiding a giggle

They're hiding something...

Oh well! Hina loves secrets so she'll just wait and find out with everyone else!

It doesn't really have to be clarified that she celebrated when she got the part! She was so so so so so excited to be Angelica!! Yayayay! Not only does this mean that she gets to sing and dance with her friends, but she'll also get to brag to her family about a fun new skill she learned! Or maybe she should keep it a secret until the big day? Oh, she doesn't know, she might just explode from the excitement!

She put all her excitement into the swim competition that she had a couple days later, and it won her first place! Yay!

Peggy Schuyler - Kyoko Kirigiri

Kyoko definitely wasn't planning on auditioning for any part. She'd much rather be on the sidelines with Toko

That plan changed quickly when Makoto wouldn't shut up about her being someone- ANYONE- so he wouldn't have to be alone in his small part (If he even got the part, his luck is kind of wonky sometimes)

She finally lamented and auditioned for Peggy. No practice at all, just went for it.

She was present for one of the watch throughs and watched the musical again on her own. The first watch was used to analyze how the characters act and interact with each other, the second was to analyze the plot and movements of the characters. She deduced that Peggy has the second least number of lines of any female main-ish character, (The first being Maria Reynolds and there is no way she is 'seducing' Taka on stage in front of people she most likely knows.) her movements aren't terribly complicated either and whenever Peggy is on stage, she's overshadowed by others, so no-one really pays attention to her. That role is perfect.

Kyoko simply smiled when she read the casting list and saw that she received the role of Peggy. Not only would this make Makoto less nervous, but also practicing for the musical wouldn't take up any time because Peggy is only present in 4 songs and speak briefly in 2.

She has cases to work on and she'd rather not let practicing get in the way of that

George Washington - Sakura Oogami

This may seem like a weird decision, but Hina and Taka thought it was a great idea that someone as stoic and wise as Sakura to play someone as respectable (and tall) as George Washington

It didn't take much convincing as she holds respects for him (and might've been a little intrigued in being in the musical)

It did take a bit of practicing since Sakura's way of talking is more slow-paced while Washington's lines are fast-paced

She is just as resilient in training her mental muscles as her physical muscles though, so the practice is welcomed with honor

All the practice definitely pays off as she finds her name 8th down on the cast list

A smile and a nod are the reaction that the stoic Oogami gave at this revelation... Then a gasp followed as Hina also read the list and basically tackled her from behind in excitement

Hina then went on and on about how amazing Sakura was going to look in Washington's waistcoat and trousers and how amazing she was going to sound because Washington's voice is amazing, and Sakura's voice is amazing and Hina loves all of the parts where Washington sings and now it's going to be even better because she'll get to listen to her girlfriend sing and-

Sakura was not let go of for another 4 hours, but she did not mind one bit

If she wasn't already excited for practice, then she definitely would be now with Hina's bouncing, bubbly excitement radiating all over the place

Thomas Jefferson/Marquis De Lafayette - Yasuhiro Hagakure

Gonna be so honest, I originally only picked this because of Hiro looks

And I'm going to go on a whim here and say that the judges (Who I'm going to say now were teachers like Chisa and maybe some eager volunteers from V2 and V3) at the audition also took Hiro's appearances compared to Lafayette and Jefferson in to account when casting people

Hiro did have some really good accent skills, probably from having to hide his voices whenever someone he scammed bumps into him

He's pretty good at fast talking too, probably also from him having to think of quick excuses on the fly for when he also bumps into someone he's scammed

Both of those qualities are needed to be Lafayette along with being silly and everyone knows Hiro is like the goofiest goober around when he needs to be

He's also witty, engaging, and very sarcastic when needed which are all the qualities needed to be Jefferson

Hiro had both characters down, he loved both of them, but he couldn't decide which one to do. He tried asking he crystal ball, but that just 'told' him that he would vibe as either. So, he consulted the cards, who also told him that he'd be fine as either

He auditioned as both Lafayette and Jefferson since that would amplify his chances of getting at least one of them. He sung a bit of Battle of Yorktown for Lafayette and Cabinet Battle #1 for Jefferson

The audition judges couldn't decide which they liked best so they decided he would follow in Daveed Diggs' footsteps and give him both roles to play

He looked at the cast list, he got there after everyone else with Leon because he had detention, and cheered, attempting to fist bump Leon, but Leon seemed upset. He let it go and went to tell Taka instead

He knew he would get at least one of the roles! Afterall, it was in the cards!

John Laurens/James Reynolds - Leon Kuwata

This man went straight for Alexander Hamilton with absolutely no practice

Well, that's not completely true. He practiced a little bit in the shower and sung Hamilton's parts in Helpless with Sayaka one time

He actually did pretty good despite the very minimum amount of practice

He stumbled on a couple words, he auditioned with My Shot, but ultimately made up for it with his dancing and charisma towards the judges

That's most likely the reason why they gave Leon the part of John Laurens. Laurens is Hamilton's bestie up until his death, he doesn't have too many wordy lines, and he's mainly there to hype up the crowd/his friends. He's perfect for Laurens!

Which is so not perfect for Leon since he's gonna have to watch as whoever gets Hamilton sweeps Sayaka off her feet while he sits back and literally cheers him on!

He goes back to the judges and tells the main judge, and the only one he can really find in this big, old school, Chisa (as nicely as he can) that he doesn't want to be Laurens. He uses the excuse that he feels as though he should be in more of the musical. Chisa agrees and tells him she'll see what she can do!

Cool! Now all he has to do is go serve his detention (Which he may or may not have gotten for racing toy cars in the hall with Hiro and making someone trip) and come back later to see his name right next to Alexander Hamilton

...James Reynolds? Wasn't that the abusive husband? That's not what he meant by 'being more in the musical'! This guy only had like 2 lines and one's about calling his wife a whore!

Leon was left so much more upset than before; he didn't even notice Hiro trying to fist bump him or him leaving. He was seething when he realized that Mr. Hardass was taking his spot at woo-ing Sayaka, the exact same Hardass that gave him detention.

Now he had to pretend like he was really happy for Ishi-Ton and Say-Liza while also remember all these new stupid lines for not just Laurens, but also Reynolds

Hercules Mulligan/James Madison - Byakuya Togami

Literally only got these parts because of his deep voice

He did not audition for Mulligan or Madison, he auditioned for Aaron Burr. Why not Hamilton himself? He did not want to be seen as a protagonist; he sees himself as more suited to be the antagonist, and he did not want to have to fake not 1, not 2, but 3 romances with women he did not have a lick of feelings for.

Aaron Burr is level-headed until he started acting like that fool Hamilton, he thinks his plans through to a detrimental level, and he only mentions a love interest for a couple minutes before focusing on his life plans again. He was the perfect candidate for Togami to stand in as.

He did not practice any dancing but did multiple different private practices for his vocals. He auditioned with Wait for it as it did not require dancing so he could focus on his lines for the pitiful judges that watched him. He did perfectly and was left to wait for the confirmation.

He wanted to wait for all the idiots to clear away from the cast papers, but an unexpected squeal from the overgrown, meathead who was raving about getting his part made him push everyone else out of the way to see if what the big baby of a biker was saying was true. It couldn't be true; Aaron Burr was his part.

...There had to be some kind of mistake! He scanned over that sheet 3 times to find that the dreaded papers were not lying. He was not Aaron Burr; he was Hercules Mulligan and James Madison. Madison he could respect, the man is sophisticated and responsible both in history and in the musical, but Mulligan is a short, angry brute! That is the person suited for that currently over-emotional biker, not Aaron Burr!

He turned to tell that stupid biker that just as the meathead was rushing off to find the little tech student.

Damn it all.

He went to instead lay out his fury with Chisa, the main judge, in a not so polite way. It didn't seem to affect her though. She simply said that she could give those parts to someone else, and he could work in the back with Fukawa...

He dialed the number of his private vocalist to inform them of the change in lines he would have to practice.

King George - Celestia Ludenburg

She too practiced in private.

Of course she was going to go straight for the King, who else would befit her?

It didn't take much singing to convince the judges. Her voice is powerful, condescending, and sarcastic. Perfect for King George!

She will not be spitting like he famously does, but besides that, she already has his part in the bag.

She didn't have to go check the list to know she got her part, but it was worth getting all dressed up to see Togami's hissy fit at his cast reveal

Maria Reynolds - Junko Enoshima

The cheating, the manipulation, the groveling, the despair of a broken marriage caused by her, how could she pass that all up?

The part wasn't hard at all to get down, she was already basically a natural actor.

She practiced only for a stupid older sister's benefit. Poor Mukuro was so nervous about her small little part that she had to practice her chosen part over 30 times (It was definitely because Mukuro was nervous and not because Junko kept laughing and pointing out every little mistake she made)

Her part also came with the added bonus of getting to feel up Mr. Stick-in-his-ass without getting detention. In fact, she might be praised for the added realism

She didn't check the casting roster until really late at night, unfortunately missing the RichMan™'s breakdown, to avoid everyone else for her poor sister's sake (MukMuk is such a big baby, she swears)

She got the part (Yay) and so did her sister (Boo)

George Eacker - Mukuro Ikusaba

She didn't have that many lines, but she just kept messing up during practice for some reason

Luckily, she got them right for the audition (or she hopes she did, Junko didn't say anything so she must have done good)

She wasn't going to audition for any part, just work with Fukawa in the back, but then Junko said she'd be perfect for the part of the murderer of Philip Hamilton and asked her to try out for it

She couldn't deny her little sister, could she?

It was nerve-wracking, but the list had finally been posted so regardless of her nervous-ness, she would have her answer once she went to check the papers.

Junko had to end up dragging her to the papers late at night because she couldn't bring herself to go

She got the part, yay.

Charles Lee - Makoto Naegi

He wanted to be in the musical to support his fellow classmates while also not having to memorize many lines as he might end up forgetting them out of nervousness

Charles Lee, George Eacker, and Samuel Seabury were all good choices. Samuel would be hard though, because he and Taka would have to be singing over each other and he might not be able to say his lines at the same time as him. Especially because of how loud and intimidating Taka can be

He decided to eliminate him and focus on the other 2 options. They both had relatively short parts so auditioning with both of their songs wasn't met with any restraint from the judges

He figured, with his luck, he had to get one of the parts and if he didn't, because that was still definitely a possibility, then he could help Toko with backstage work full time

Luckily, he got Charles Lee. Unluckily, Byakuya decided to take his anger out on him by ranting about 'The Giant Oaf' as he referred to Mondo for almost an entire hour

That's ok though, Makoto is always up to support a 'friend' in times of distress!

Samuel Seabury - Hifumi Yamada

He originally was just going to work backstage with Fukawa Toko-dono but at the prospect that his Mistress is going to be centered as royalty and there is a commoner whose sole role is encouraging the Town People to worship her, he immediately started practicing for the part of Seabury

He was pretty good, even putting on his Manly™️ Voice while auditioning

Because of his impeccable performance, (and the fact that no-one else auditioned for that part) he was almost immediately given the role

Mistress Ludenburg even praised him for his role! (Then ordered him to make her some tea to celebrate)

That's all the main characters sorted I think so next post will be all about how each song and the practices for that particular song went. As expected for the class of 78, there will be lots of shenanigans (and maybe even some fanart to go with it if I can figure out how to draw some of these characters)

Hold on, there's someone I have forgotten!

Philip Hamilton - Chihiro Fujisaki

Chihiro practiced with Sayaka privately, which was super awkward at first, but they eventually got over it

They wanted to surprise everyone by being in the musical! They know it will be really hard because they'll have to preform in front of everyone in a pretty major role, but that's what the practice is for. They've been getting physically stronger with Mondo, so it's time to up their emotion and mental strength (along with their vocal strength because they have a pretty small voice)

They were really nervous about preforming just in front of the judges, but that's ok because they did it and that's all that matters

They didn't even get a chance to look at the casting roster before Mondo came barreling into them announcing his role. Getting to see the unabridged happiness and excitement from Mondo almost made up for being crushed in a back breaking hug.

After the initial excitement, they then had to listen to his anxieties about all the lines and dance movements he's gonna have to remember before joking that they wouldn't have to do that themselves since they didn't audition for anything. Mondo will not admit that he stumbled to keep up as Chihiro pulled him down the hall (not running, just speed walking as they did pass Taka on the way) back to the casting papers

It took a minute as they specifically requested that their name went on the second paper and not the first so the likelihood of anyone finding their name on accident was low, but they sure did find it... and they were almost immediately put into another crushing hug. They may have gotten stronger and used to Mondo's physical affections, but the bear hugs are something they don't think they'll ever get used to

They leave off telling everyone else, they'll figure it out during practices

Alright, that's everyone! Any other minor roles that weren't assigned to anyone is picked up by other Ultimates that aren't in the 78 class (maybe some of the class of 77 helped) like the background dancers or the prop and set movers. Toko doesn't get a role, not because I don't like her because I absolutely do, but because:

1. I could not find a role that fit her comfortable

2. Realistically, she would not and could not perform in front of potentially 100s of people (Most of whom are made up of the classmates' family and friends, along with Sayaka's fans who came just for Sayaka)

3. She would not want to risk Syo coming out in front of hundreds of people. She would rather have her come out while backstage because then someone could notice and get her away from the stage area more subtly and without worry

She's content with having to pull the curtains or just motioning for props to be sent out to the stage.

This entire performance is going to be put on in a sort of hall, think of a graduation ceremony kind of hall. Despite the huge school and its amenities, they could not fit all the props, characters, and costumes along with 100+ people anywhere in the school comfortably. The school funds the renting of this hall though since this is for a festival. The festival will be happening at and around the school where some students will also be selling tickets for the musical and then there will be an announcement, signaling that the musical will start in an hour. All guests will then move to the hall, get their tickets taken, and take their seats.

What's up with Mondo's parents?

We don't really get a look to his family, more about takemichi, Daiya, the gang... But never his parents.

His mother is mentioned, and she sounds nice, tbh, but what about Mondo's father?

I think he would be:

1. Type of toxic masculinity but does everything his wife says. Tho, his parents split up (he's SO son of divorce) and his father is now typical single father with weird house decoration while his mom is living her 20s again.

2. Narcissistic father, but, VERY. Obviously split up parents.

3. Went for cigarettes and never came back.

4. Wears a 'wife beater'. *Stares at you* it's, uh, yk.

Tell me your ideas of how he could be, maybe he's kind of man who just knows everything about Mondo, like, even things he doesn't. But thing like his sexuality or how he actually feels about something and Mondo's just staring at him like 🧍 "why didn't I heir that from you". Oh, and wears a "proud father" with a bisexual flag shirt.

DON'T READ THIS BEFORE FINISHING DANGANRONPA TRIGGER HAPPY HAVOC CHAPTER 2

Below is an analysis of Boy's Life of Despair- particularly how the entire chapter as a whole revolves around gender, queerness, and internalized issues regarding the aforementioned topics!

I know I just posted about this but I started thinking about Ishimaru listening to Pink Pony Club and sobbing bc of his family and reputation. My personal headcanon is that he's definitely gay but never got to unpack that bc he was more focused on being the Ultimate Moral Compass. And then he meets Mondo and starts to realize who he is and that even though their situation sucks that without his family and their status hanging over his head he's free to do some introspection and then just as he's started to find out who he is he loses the one person he's ever gotten that opportunity with and then goes mad with grief and denial not just for Mondo but also for his own identity. He was both grieving his “bro” and the authentic queer man he could've been and it caused him to force himself into the closet in a fit of mental illness and thinking that it's not worth it to find himself if it endangers others. Also Mondo was totally having a very similar if not exact reflection of this with Ishimaru and his internalizes homophobia is what lead to Trial 2 in the first place.

Internalized Homophobia AND toxic masculinity, EPECIALLY on Mondo's side. They both dealt with toxic masculinity but in very different ways. For Ishimaru it was about being a leader and someone the people could follow and have faith in, just like his grandfather was once. A man unbothered by any dilemma who could be a pillar of strength and motivation for any person to lean on, unfeeling and confident and strong. A grandiose statue, if you will.

For Mondo it was about being tough and intimidating, making sure no one would fuck with you and being a more stereotypical Man (at least in Western society). Though these perceptions come from different sources and at different angles, they end in the same result where both of these characters- even subconsciously- feel like they aren't allowed to be themself and instead have to become this molded shape of a man that suits their role in society- whether that be a future Prime Minister who will clear his family name of scandal and debt or a ruthless biker gang leader who doesn't take shit from anybody. Even if they want to, they aren't afforded the right to reflect.

In my mind, while Ishimaru was blissfully unaware of his queerness, Mondo Knew who he was but felt like he couldn't Be that person due to not only being the leader of the Crazy Diamond biker gang, but also because he wanted to be able to fill the shoes of his older brother- especially considering the fact that he feels responsible for Daiya's death.

(Also hi Jojo fans, if you recognize the "Crazy Diamond" biker gang then fun fact! Mondo is a MASSIVE Josuke reference! From his hair, the gang name- even the fact that his and his brother's names spell out "Daiya"-"Mondo!" And it's not the only Jojo reference in the Danganronpa franchise, either!)

Anyway, back on topic. Mondo Knew that he was queer, or at the very LEAST that he wasn't the Man he made himself out to be and that he wanted to be someone different. Someone softer, someone who didn't have to be so tough and intimidate everyone around him for fear of being undermined and not filling the shoes his older brother left for him. So he bottles up his feelings, hides who he really is. He gets angry, not at anyone in particular but angry that he's trapped in this facade of his own making.

So of course, when he finds out about Chihiro (She/They/He in this post btw), he gets even more angry. Chihiro is someone who's been able to experiment and express their identity. She doesn't care what other people think of her and decides to present and express however they feel comfortable- at least in Mondo's eyes. Chihiro has the freedom that Mondo craves so badly, and when she asks Mondo for help to be more Manly- something that Mondo feels like he's a fraud in- of course he gets angry. To Mondo, it seems like Chihiro is throwing this freedom away. This isn't actually the case, of course, but that's how Mondo percieves all of this.

All of this isn't meant to excuse Mondo's actions because I will never excuse or dismiss Literal Murder, but it does provide an explanation. Especially because the way Danganronpa itself handles Chapter 2 is abysmal. I was talking about with a dear friend (Hi, Mattie!) and we were talking about how Chapter 2 as a whole is 100% centered on gender and gender expression but how because it was horribly executed- no pun intended- that it falls so flat despite having the potentional to have a really nice nuanced take on toxic masculinity.

Even Chihiro experienced toxic masculinity! Because they didn't fit the "Big Strong Man" mold at a very young age, they were bullied and harassed for being weak and frail. So, they decided it would be better to be percieved as a girl than to be bullied as an effeminate boy.

Taking this opportunity to talk about MY PERSONAL HEADCANNONS and OPINIONS of Chihiro's gender identity. Which may not align with Your opinion, and it definitely doesn't align with canon- but that is okay! That's why it's a headcanon :). Anyway, personally I do think the Chihiro found comfort in femininity through the years of dressing as a girl. I don't feel like he's fully a trans woman, but I do think he's transfeminine! But in any case, moving along!

Literally every aspect and character involved in the core of Chapter 2's case and trial is centered on how gender affects us- especially how it affects men and AMAB individuals (excluding the whole Byakuya, Toko, and Syo debacle because that is. Another issue entirely and I will likely do an analysis on That as well, especially as someone with DID.)

Unfortunately, Danganronpa as a franchise has some decent ideas and then completely stumbles over itself with 8/10 on them! However, this series is incredibly dear to me and I can't bring myself to hate it. But! It's important to consume media with a critical lense. Don't forgive, excuse, and/or dismiss the faults of your favorites pieces of media just because you like them.

Daiya No Ace Scenarios: Meeting at University

You meet in the campus center while waiting for your food. They call the order and you're surprised when some random guy is practically running to the counter to pick up your order.

You speed up to meet him at the counter and give him a piece of your mind when you both check the number. It was actually his but ironically you both get the same order. He says you have great taste and invites you to sit with him. You talk about classes and turns out he's in one of your main Sociology lectures.

You both fall into a rhythm of grabbing your favorite meal together before heading to lecture. Occasionally, you attend his games and it isn't long until he speeds his way into your heart.

"I didn't know you were that fast, Cheetah." "Of course you did. I had to be faster than you to grab my food the first time we met right? Ahahaha!" "You know what?" *Chaos ensues*

Miyuki Kazuya

He is a peer tutor in your Statistics class. Miyuki learned the material early and it works well with his baseball talents.

Despite his snarky attitude, he's actually pretty helpful and takes the time to really explain the chapters breaking it down in a way you understand. Your convinced he's your saving grace (even though you would never tell him that, his head would get too big if you did).

At the end of the semester, you make him a nice thank you card with a gift card to a local coffee shop. You hand it to him after your final, thinking you won't see him again. But he finds you around campus and makes sure to thank you in his own way by proposing to redeem the gift card together.

Chris Takigawa Yuu

You meet Chris in your Anatomy and Physiology class when you're paired together for a research project. After meeting up after class to discuss potential topics, you both discover you have a love of sports which makes it much easier to pick something sports related.

You put together a research project about the anatomy of different athletes based on their respective sports. It helped that Chris knew a lot of athletes since he played baseball.

It was great to study athletes from various sports and it was clear Chris was very thoughtful and diligent. He smiles at how personable you are with the athlete you interview and how you thank them with ideas that'll help them (recipes/workouts).

Needless to say, you both get an A for the paper and the class and decide to celebrate a job well done.

 ANIMAL HOUSE # 13 「Towaki Sea x Yuki Daiya」

"TAKARAZUKA Animal House" is a programme where Takarasiennes go to the cafe and introduce their beloved pets. # 13 features Flower Troupe Towaki Sea and Yuki Daiya, along with Daiya’s pet hamster Blan-chan! They have a talk, as they pick five cards of different topics! This episode, Hitoko (Towaki) picked a card on “Their impressions of each other” and they talked about different stories about them. Daiya later picked a card of “Her favourite movie of Blan-chan”. 

Note: This is a rough translation, it may have mistakes and may not be complete, please read it just for reference.

About the hamster:

Daiya: Hamster is Blan-chan or simplied Bu-chan (from the first character) because I got it when its "Paris in the Winter Fog” performance run and the stage was set in France and since [hamster] is pure white, "Blanc” is white in French, therefore "Blan".

Hitoko: I also have 2 cats at home. I thought over if I wanted a dog before, but now I think 2 cats are enough.

Daiya: I also wanted a dog before when I was in primary school but then I considered it may be a lot of work, to walk the dog and so on. But I have a parrot now also which can also repeat what I say!

Impressions of each other

(1) First impressions of each other

Hitoko: Daiya was my shinko role for “Haikara-san” but because that was cancelled, we didn’t get to talk much. But before that, it was one time when  passed by the elevator hall and saw Daiya practising alone [for “Masquerade Hotel”]. After knowing that it was "Flower Troupe’s Yuki Daiya" her first impression was: oh Daiya is great at dancing!

Daiya: I was a Snow Troupe fan before Hito-san transferred to Flower Troupe so I did go to see Snow Troupe shows...but when Hito-san transferred to Flower Troupe, I was happy cause at that time [in Decmber 2019], the “Olympia” team, the “Masquerade Hotel” team, even Snow Troupe [for “Once Upon a Time in America] were all practising in Takarazuka, so I was able to talk to Hito-san!  My first impression was: Hito-san was very charming, in terms of how she interacts with others and her vibe, I was just drawn to that charm!

(2) Nicknames Hitoko: Oh, right you started calling me Hito-san!

Daiya: Yes about that, actually since we were nearby there was a time where Hito-san and Seino-san were practising together... Hitoko: Oh, the Salome scene [in “Dance Olympia”]? Daiya: Yes, and we were just rehearsing on our own and we couldn’t talk to you because you guys are rehearsing, but I saw how you approached Seino-san and said, "Let’s get close and work well together" and I thought "Ah.... I want to speak to her soon...." and then later you told me "It’s ok for you to call me Hito-san" so I was very happy indeed, but sometimes still nervous to say it ... >< Hitoko: On the other hand, since everyone just calls you "Daiya", I was also worried if I should call you the same and in "Haikara-san” performance run I called you "Daiya-kun" but I later also went with calling you “Daiya”.

(3) Birthday presents Hitoko: My first Flower Troupe birthday was spent during "Haikara-san” performance run. Daiya made me a t-shirt and a tote bag as birthday presents. Now I still use that t-shirt and still put yoga mat into the tote bag when she goes warming up. Daiya: I’m so happy you’re loving the presents!

(After a little interruption of Blan-chan running on the wheel) Hitoko: I was also surprised because of course the performance cancellations happened [in "Haikara-san”] and later when I had another birthday, you knit my name on this blanket? and I thought "How did I influence this kid? Why is she making this amazing gift for me, why does she know how to do all this!?" I was surprised and happy. Daiya: Even though now we talked much more, before I wasn’t able to talk to you...because I didn’t have the courage to do so....but now there’s this programme and other opportunities that we can talk and be close to each other! Hitoko: I think it's alright if at first there's some distance, that we're not familiar with each other. At least it's getting better recently!

(4) Daiya’s memory of Hitoko

Daiya: The greatest memory is still "Haikara-san”! Even though it was a short time that we could talk or even didn't get to talk later, but I was thinking "If that was okay"... and feeling so nervous...

Hitoko: True, because that would be your first time taking on my role [in the Shinko]

Daiya: Because I love acting, and I would think a lot and be frustrated over some pain points, such as the awareness and feeling in acting, I felt that it's changed a lot.

Hitoko: I somehow also thought that after hearing my advice, it was memorable to me that you tried to make your characters stand out by thinking of what to preserve and what to change in your style of acting.

daiya no ace anime reflection/review

im at a point in my life where i have a lot of free time at the end of the day and i find myself filling that slot with anime.

for the past two weeks, ace of the diamond has taken up a big portion of my mind as i found myself falling in love with the team and its players.

about a month ago was when i started a roll on watching sports anime. i caught up on haikyuu, binged blue lock and ao ashi, and finally spent another good chunk of time on free!!. ace of the diamond was no new title to me, yet for some reason i kept it on the back burner. i dont know why; whether it was the art style, the then-seemingly long list of episodes, or the fact that it was baseball. maybe it was all of them. when i burned myself out trying to find another anime, i finally settled on giving DnA a chance.

today, as i have finished all 176 episodes (no OVAs yet!) i confidently say it's one of my top, if not the top, anime ive seen so far.

i noted a few things as i progressed through the series: strong points, cons, favorite characters, and a few personal thoughts.

i will start off with the cons head on. daiya's is, i guess i could say, notorious? for its "annoying, loud, benchwarmer" MC. one genuine complaint i do have is the lack of animation quality in the third season. there were many still shots with voice overs, though i felt a little more satisfied with the animation towards the end. also, to a smaller extent, the anime is not as complete as the manga.

anyway, i think the slow burn is actually a strong point, as many others point out. indeed, it is the very low lows that make the highs so high. don't get me wrong, i love a stupidly powerful MC, such as mob psycho 100 or OPM, but the realism gives DnA its charm and relatability. when others say "season 1 is bad, season 2 is good, season 3 is amazing," they are not lying.

DnA's charm not only lies in its realism, but also its character development and character interactions. brotherhood, leadership, and teamwork are all themes throughout the anime. the way the third years cared for their juniors and the way the juniors fought to elongate their seniors' summers was beautiful, heart-wrenching, and gut-punching to me, a recent college graduate. these types of moments are not uncommon in sports anime, but something about DnA's execution made it so much more..emotional? relatable? whether it was due to convenient timing or the fact that the sheer amount of episodes made me feel like they were actually my own friends, i just felt so much more compelled when watching daiya.

on the topic of my personal emotions, as i said, the themes of graduating/retiring really hit home for me. but that made daiya all the more special to me. both personal relatability and just watching everyone's hard work made it so easy to sympathize with their determination. maybe it was the countless scenes of them heaving and gasping for air; or the scenes where TJ made their frustrations so visible and vulnerable. as a watcher, i did not see myself rooting for some characters in a show; normally, i'd take a normal stance with the expectations that the "of course, the MC team will win." i saw myself rooting for my friends. in addition, knowing TJ, we can never be too sure on how seido's games will actually go. everything comes down to the realism. it's daiya's realism that made me feel their passion, made them so relatable, and made it feel like they were actually at high stakes. i truly, rarely never cry when watching an anime. besides assassination classroom, no other anime has made me so emotional. not only that, but daiya made me cry several times. the amount of immersion is insane.

to no surprise, my favorite character is miyuki. he was the know-it-all. he was essentially the rock of seido with his calls. i often found myself wondering how strong seido would be without miyuki. no disrespect to ono; as he proved, and as kataoka also believes, ono is also reliable. but miyuki was just built different bro. anyway, i appreciated his character for not only baseball iq, but his rapid maturity into the captain role, and his flexibility with his juniors. i found his personality very admirable and his logical approach to situations both relatable and reliable. other characters i particularly were fond of were chris and kuramochi. if okumura had more screen time, i could also see him climbing up my list. as someone who had no prior baseball knowledge, daiya/seido as a whole, but particularly chris and miyuki, gave me a newfound respect for and fundmental understanding of baseball.

i think one last thing i wanted to note was that i really don't read manga. but for daiya, im definitely gonna pick up the manga now. i have never done this before for an anime, even others i really liked--hxh, haikyuu, one punch man, etc. i just never felt compelled to read the story further beyond the anime. but for daiya, this is something im willing to do. i just love it that much.

if you are having second thoughts or are debating on watching DnA, def watch it if you do not mind slow burn and can take a realistic approach. on the other hand, i do not recommend if you want to see an OP MC.

DR Ghost AU #1:

It's more of a heavy topic where the dead members of THH haunt the alive members of V3 during the KG. Leon is haunting Kokichi and can't STAND him. Until Kokichi sees him, that is. Kokichi can only see Leon, not the other ghosts and the two have to work together to end the V3 killing game and save the THH ghosts.

The premise is basically: You haunt somebody who's KG is similar to your own, and you have to work out how before they die.

For example:

Mondo haunts Maki (their KGs are similar because Mondo killed his brother Daiya, and Maki was threatened that all of her friends (found family/siblings) would die at the orphanage if she didn't become an assasin.

DR Ghost AU #2:

A slice of the (after)life (<- Yes, I'm naming it something like that) ghost AU where there are no heavy topics, it's just ghosts having fun and recovering from their respective KGs.

I know that SDR2 ghosts didn't REALLY die, but in this they are for plot purposes. And for the V3 timeline... just pretend it's the 3rd Killing Game and not the 53rd Killing Game.

It'd have multiple character perspectives from multiple games, and some fun and silly interactions like DRS (<- I haven't played it and I'm not planning on it, but I do know the basic premise so yayyy!)

In my opinion, if people do have a view of a character that’s different from canon (more ooc but also just generally different from canon), it’s fine, however they have to understand that that isn’t how the character behaves or is like. For example, i like the idea that junko wasn’t always like that and due to certain circumstances got to the point she is, however I know that that likely isn’t the case and she is just like that, for example, one way this isn’t the case is that she has to have her entire memory wiped to not be like she is in the game, plus she was never intended to be a villain with a sad backstory or anything.

One example, I believe is people misinterpreting the characters to a point where, yes, currently in present time it isn’t very good, but you do have to keep in mind that it was made in a time where these things weren’t as common or to keep in mind how the games themes are. I saw a post once, which admittedly was from dangan tiktok (which doesn’t tend to have good takes on characters) which basically said that Mondo was a horrible man who you shouldn’t want to like because he was sexist and punched makoto because he wanted them to stop fighting. With the sexism, yes, he does treat woman differently because he believes they’re weak, but also somewhat as a sign of respecting them. Obviously, his views aren’t right, but also, keep in mind that in the 2000s, when the first game would’ve been made, there was quite a lot of misogyny, and thus , unfortunately, it would likely be more common around the time. And there is more to him punching Makoto then just ‘oh, he’s upset because he tried to stop him from fighting byakuya!!’. Mondo is shown to have anger issues, anger issues which likely stem from the guilt of getting daiya killed, and regrets it. obviously, he probably did have anger issues before daiya died, but I think that he might’ve worsened after daiya died. This is one of the times his anger issues is shown, when he punches makoto. Another time it’s shown is when he, you know, kills chihiro. He is shown to genuinely be remorseful of his actions and guilty of the fact, so you can’t just pin it down to ‘oh, he’s upset makoto tried to stop him!’ when it isn’t just that.

Another example that I’m not particularly sure on is how some people view characters like kokichi and shuichi. I think with pre-game, the fandom does tend to amplify everything to a bigger extreme than it likely is, though that being said, it is possible that they could act like that, though again sometimes they are a bit ooc and because the idea is so widespread in the fandom, I do think it is believed to be canon. I’m probably wrong, so sorry if I am, and feel free to correct me, I may have also accidentally completely switched topics with the last two examples, so I’m really sorry if that’s the case. ^^

[POV: Daiya and Yasuhiro are roommates]

"Hey, Daicchi?", Spoke Hiro, who was sitting at the edge of the couch while rocking his legs like a bored child.

"Hmm?", hummed Daiya carelessly as a type of response, scrolling through his phone as he took over the whole couch.

"Have you..ever tried jam?"

Daiya paused for a moment then gave Yasuhiro a raised eybrow and a confused look. That really was a weird question to ask even for someone like him.

"Y'know like-..the kind of jam that's made at home? Not the store one??", Hiro tried to explain while waving his hands defensively as if he was attacked by Daiya's response, "You ever tried that?"

"Hmm..", the other roommate surfed through his memories for an answer, "Nah, don't think so".

"..You wanna?" Hiro questioned, although his face was almost begging for a yes.

"Ya know how to make jam?" Daiya asked in a joking tone, though he was in fact surprised by Hiro's knowledge of the topic.

"Well..not really..but i DO remember the way ma used to make it! I sure forget a lot of things but ma's jam recipe ain't one of 'em!!!" Hiro argued. That question really felt underestimating.

"Okay okay, if ya want to then sure, why not?" Daiya said soothingly while getting up, as he noticed that Hiro was getting a tad bit angry.

-And so, they both headed to the kitchen, in an unplanned quest to make a...

"What kind of jam are we meant to make??", Daiya looked at the fridge confusedly, he was not certain where to even start.

"Pretty sure we got some apricots rollin' 'round those parts?" Hiro grabbed some spoons needed for the jam.

"Yeah, 'course we do! Thanks, Hero", Thanked Daiya as he snapped his fingers, while using the nickname he chose from the day they met in middle school.

Daiya grabbed the apricots from the fridge and some sugar from the cabinets, as he noticed that Yasuhiro brought out the rest of the requirements on his own. How fast.

"Just for yer information thought", the eldest Oowada warned as he pointed his finger at Hagakure, "Since this is your idea, you are gonna do the dishes". He paused for a moment.

"And if ya break somethin' i'll break yer fuckin' jaw ya hear??" He cursed, looking very protective of his dear dishes.

"Okay dude chill! I'll be cautious trust me", assured Hiro, knowing Daiya and his warnings.

- After that, they started preparing the sweet recipe, with Yasuhiro giving out intructions and Daiya following them. Soon enough, they finally finshed...

"Woohooo!" Yasuhiro blowed as he threw himself on the couch.

"Move yer ass away i wanna sit too", Daiya angerly ordered, though he wan't angry at all, "besides the only thing ya did was tellin' me what to do".

"That AND washing the apricots AND cutting them too! That counts, Y'know???", Hiro defended his dear self, "besides, ya still said i gotta do the dishes, so i'm not done yet!!"

Daiya couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, "Yeah sure, whatever", He said nonchalantly while handing his roommate what appears to be a small sandwich.

"What is this?", Asked Yasuhiro, looking geniuenly confused.

"Wouldn't ya like to try the product of yer ideas?", questioned Oowada sarcastically, still holding out the sandwich.

Yasuhiro took it while mumbling out a small "thanks", to wich Daiya responded by a slightly louder "No probs".

-And so they sat down quietly, enjoying the sweet sweet result of their hardwork (with even more hardwork awaiting Yasuhiro's arrival at the kitchen).
