Devdas, 2002  ☆ (drama/romance, I watched this way too much as a child, which may explain the way I am)

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001 ☆ (so much drama/romance, top tier songs, AMAZING cast)

Taal, 1999 (I've never personally watched this fully, but my family absolutely looooves this movie, and the songs are amazing too)

Jab We Met, 2007 (romcom - haven't watched this in forever but I remember having fun lol)

Ra.One, 2011 ☆ (action/sci-fi, I really like this one because it's sci-fi, which I don't really see a lot of, and Akon sings like two songs in this)

Chalte Chalte, 2003 ☆ (romance/drama, I shed A Lot of tears. Always.)

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, 1998 (ROMANCE, childhood friends to lovers, pining, etc etc. And I don't think I've watched this but my parents LOVE this movie so. Added to the list!)

Kal Ho Naa Ho, 2003 (romance, and I shed A Lot of Tears...I haven't rewatched this in forever because I know I'll cry a lot but it's good!)

Dil Ka Rishta, 2003 (romance/kinda dramatic...as per usual, an amnesia story but it works! And Aishwarya Rai looks gorgeous as per usual!)

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, 2006 (DRAMA!!!/romance, god so much drama...it had 6/7 year old me SHOOK and even now. Insane. There's some cheating in this one.)

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: one of my Absolute Favourites of All Time. I will sit down and watch every day if given the chance. It's about the trials of friendship, life, career and self growth, and it's a literal gem.

3 Idiots: also one of the Absolute Favourites of All Time. I love literally everything about this one. It addresses the problems with the colossal expectations of the Indian education system and how it leads to the destruction of the mental health of students.

Taare Zameen Par: I always cry whenever I watch this movie, every time. The third- and last- one of my Absolute Favourites. The highlighting of dyslexia and the way society treats it is so relatable and real; that's what makes me love it so much.

Coco: Yes, the animated movie. There is so much about this movie that I love, it's honestly so amazing. I don't think I need to say much about it.

Bajirao Mastani: it's my comfort film because of the fashion, the set, the songs, etc. Basically, I love it for the artistic direction. My favourite character is Kashibai, obv.

Raazi: Gods I love this one. I've been trying to get the book this was inspired by— Calling Sehmat— for such a long time. I hope I get it this year. The story follows a 19yo girl turned spy for India during the Indo Pak war, and it's so riveting. 10/10 always recommend.

Moana: legit most of the non-Bollywood films on here are gonna be animated lol. But Moana is just so so dear to my heart, and if it gets a sequel, it had better be as awesome as Frozen 2 was, which brings us to..

The Frozen Franchise: all of it. Songs, plot, characters, the effort they put into the animation. Just. All of it.

Faster Fene: this is a Marathi film. A murder mystery/thriller that deals with the corruption in the Education system of India. The main character is just so smart (and he's one of my favourite Marathi actors) and everything comes together so well. In love with this one.

Legally Blonde: I would never, ever leave out the most iconic feminist film of all time. Elle Woods is who I aspire to be. Uhh.. with a little less pink. I have nothing against pink— in fact, I quite like it— it's just that my favourite colour is blue

I still remember Raaz as one of the creepiest movies I watched when I was a teen! right from the get-go, the atmosphere is spine-tingling. the old house, the fog-covered hills, and the eerie music had my heart racing like I’d just chugged a gallon of espresso! seriously, I felt like I was living it with the characters, jumping at every spooky moment. it was like a haunted house ride, minus the ticket price! Bipasha Basu’s character is super relatable; her fear and confusion as the ghostly events unfold really pulled me in. she plays the role of a woman just trying to make sense of this nightmare, and I was totally rooting for her. and let’s not forget Dino Morea, who nails the terrified husband trying to protect her. their chemistry felt genuine (which makes sense since they were dating in real life!), but you could really see it slowly unravel thanks to the haunting. I was practically shouting at the screen, “you guys can make it work! just talk it out!” the minor characters added to the suspense too, especially that mysterious old woman who definitely knows more than she’s letting on. you know the type—always lurking around, giving you that “I know something you don’t” vibe. it’s like she’s the keeper of all the juicy secrets, and I was there for it! emotionally, Raaz had me switching between curiosity and fear, especially as the secrets slowly came out. I barely felt the length of the movie—it was that gripping! every twist kept me guessing, making this one of the few horror movies that truly held my attention from start to finish. I was totally hooked the entire time, like a fish on a line, flopping around for more. can we talk about the songs? they’re catchy and stick in my head! there were moments I found myself wishing I could be in Bipasha’s shoes, being serenaded by a man like Dino, lol! it’s that perfect blend of romance and horror that gives me butterflies and chills all at once. while it does have some typical horror tropes, Raaz manages to elevate itself above the average ghost story. the cinematography is top-notch, and the music perfectly complements the haunting visuals. it’s like a love letter to classic horror films with a Bollywood twist! overall, if you're in the mood for a horror flick that knows how to mix scares with a little bit of romance and a whole lot of suspense, Raaz is definitely worth a watch. just don’t forget to turn on the lights afterward!

He left his engineering studies in his third year, despite scoring outstanding marks in his engineering selection examination, to join the Bollywood film industry. Otherwise, he would have been a brilliant mechanical engineer today. Further, Sushant was exactly six feet tall. The space between his bed and the ceiling fan from which his body was hanging was exactly 5 feet 11 inches. In fact, his legs were touching the bed. How can a six-foot-tall man die by hanging from a 5-foot 11-inch space? The killers might have forgotten that to die by hanging, one requires a space greater than their height and also a small table or chair on which they need to stand. And the astonishing part is that the fan from which Sushant’s body was hanging was intact. It should have broken from the jerk or his body weight if he had really hung himself. When someone hangs himself, the cartilage of his neck breaks. But in Sushant’s case, his neck cartilage was intact. Instead, a deep red mark was surrounding his neck which indicated that someone had strangled him to death. The bruises on his body indicated a struggle. Mind it, all these evidences were removed from his original post-mortem report which I am revealing today in this post. Suspicious, Isn't It? You will be shocked to know that when the police and the medical team reached Sushant’s flat to uncover his corpse, his attendees had already taken down his hanging body from the ceiling fan and mummified it by wrapping it completely with a white cloth. Isn’t this tampering with evidence? Same as Disha’s case, over here, all CCTV footage and pieces of evidence were deleted from the crime scene. The mysterious fact is that on the night of June 13, 2020, all lights in Sushant’s flat except his kitchen were switched off at around 10:30 P.M. which never happened before. Sushant was a late to-bedder. Might be he was killed on June 13, 2020, and his cook and Siddharth Pathani were making things up. Were they behind his murder? Who else could have beaten him up and strangled him to death? There was no one else other than Siddharth and the cook along with Sushant in that flat! The startling fact is that Sushant’s live-in girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, who had left his house, was getting continuous calls on her mobile phone from June 8 till June 15 from a mysterious number she had named ���AU”. It is estimated that this “AU” was none other than Aditya Thackeray. A case was filed against Aditya Thackeray demanding his immediate arrest regarding Sushant and Disha’s death cases, but he has appealed to the Mumbai High Court that these are false allegations against him. After a spate of headache-inducing, undeniably bad and painful movies 90s/00s movies, I figured I would try to change things up a bit by both going back to the whodunnit genre I love, and also going way back to 1957. In fact, this is I think the 4th oldest Bollywood movie I've seen (Kismet; Anarkali; CID), though I'm pretty sure I'll be watching more soon.

Much like the 90s movies, they tend to go a bit overboard with the laugh track - frequently Johny Walker or IS Johar, though not so here; however, they also frequently gave this 'second actor' his own song/love interest as well. Just to throw in a lighthearted song, yes, but it also sorta carries along better than the 90s, where we'd have comedy tracks that disappear at the midway point. Here, our comedic sidekick gets a couple of songs (one after doing some drugs?) and a love interest, and actually, even the secondary actress gets more songs than our "lead" actress (assuming that's what Mala Sinha is).

Does it sorta stunt the buildup a bit? Sure. But then, that's how things were then - and, honestly, it still flows pretty well. The bigger issue might just be with our lead character, a detective, not following through on his initial hunches (searching for a secret passageway, for example) or lackadaisically approaching some things, leading, for example, to an unnecessary and maybe preventable death.

If you pay close attention at the beginning of the movie, there is a throwaway line by a character that literally alerts you to exactly what is going to happen with the final twist. It's a brilliant line, something that a lot of people might sorta just ignore because the movie has just begun and there's no reason to suspect much of anything - the line, though, gave me shades of Christie's 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' and I was immediately tuned in and convinced I knew what the ending twist would be. And that didn't really ruin the movie - in fact, I was really happy with myself for picking up on that, and really impressed by the crew behind this movie for throwing it in. Brilliantly done.

Our detective is a bit sidetracked by a cute girl, but then, so is his associated. Our lead actress, who had failed in a previous attempt to hire the detective to steal something, has her own secret to hide. The dead man, himself a newly-christened murderer early in the movie, was apparently not a likeable person and even treated his own brother like crap. The dead man's ... love interest? ... has her own secrets and refuses to talk to the detective. The doctor is investigating his own suspicious. And our detective's assistant is busy competing for the love of one of the workers in the house, competing against a blind/deaf worker, who, of course, has his own secrets (that don't really play into the plot, beyond adding to the comic relief subplot). It's fun mix of characters, thrown together in what amounts to a locked room mystery (though it isn't treated like that, really, and the question of 'how did the murder happen' isn't really investigated or even answered; the focus is solely on 'who did it?').

This actress Lillian, playing Lily in what appears to be her first role, is decent; her accent and way of speech remind me very much of early-career Katrina Kaif (or, like, over-the-top Katrina from Tees Maar Khan). It's a bit jarring at first, especially when she's talking to Srinath after her intro song, but it does get a bit better. And it's awesome that both her character and Mala Sinha's characters aren't just pushover 'damsel in distress' character: Lilly stands her own against the detective multiple times, refusing to back down, whilst Mala's character obviously as the important role of 'love interest' but also ties into the story and is not beyond doing things for herself (even if she asks the detective for help at first). Of course, she's also repeatedly loudly yelling "Detective! I see the black shadow man," but luckily that only happens a few times. (Also, imagine being a bad guy and being given the moniker 'black shadow man' - how unimaginative and bland.)

It's maybe not as exciting as CID, if we're talking about Bollywood 1950s whodunnits/mystery thrillers, but I'd say it's probably a bit more fun than 12 O'Clock (from what I recall of that movie, which isn't much; though I may also be getting it confused with Baat Ek Raat Ki, from the 60s). However, in typical 'back then' Bollywood fashion, it has some nice songs (soothing, lyrically impressive; not the head-smashing bangers with pointless lyrics that dominate today), relatively well-interspersed comedy tracks with characters given at least some semblance of a story arc, and pretty decent suspense and action. I've now seen 10 Bollywood movies in the last 10 days, and this is almost certainly the best of that lot (I know, not exactly a high threshold, given the other 9 movies; but don't let that fool you, this one is pretty fun overall, especially if you're cool with old-school Bollywood). Still absolutely ecstatic that they played off that one random line into the final twist and did it so well! What a fun twist! Overall, a fun time.
