My top 5 bird-themed movies because why not
Okay, you guys I'm very excited about Illumination's new movie "Migration for a ton of reasons, but the main reason is that I love ducks. I'm personally, as a Chicken Run fan, NOT excited about Chicken Run 2 because I feel like they're going the wrong direction with it. Getting a new director, firing most of the old voices actors, and then Netflix taking over the ownership? No thanks! I'll still give it a try though. Here are my top 5 favorite bird themed movies, and why
(Chicken Run, 2000) I love this movie mainly because of the message and the fact that it tackled some heavy subjects in a family friendly way. The humor is really well done, like most DreamWorks movies, and the voice acting is amazing! I don't recommend it for children as much, but I'd say the age rating to start watching, is maybe 10-12 or older? It's a bit dark but it's still a beautiful movie and there's a character that almost everyone can relate to!
(Storks, 2016) Okay, this one is more for children and family, but has a few subtle jokes that mostly adults will understand,. I personally think it still has an amazing message about the lives of people come before objects and also that family isn't always birth given, adopting kids they're still family. And of course, the characters are very fun and adorable. Compared to most teen-young adult girls in animated movies, I really love Tulip's design. They don't make her too "sexy" but still make her look cute, she dresses plain, and she's a total goofball. I personally love seeing more female characters like that.
(Rio, 2011) You guys know this one's a cult classic! My mom and I loved this one a lot and were sad when Disney shut down BlueSky Studios. The movie is still incredibly underrated, although it has a strong fanbase of 2000s-early2010's kids! The music in the movie is incredible, the visuals and scenery is gorgeous, and it actually makes you want to travel to Rio! I feel like they tried to show the culture in the best way they could, even though I'm not an expert, they did it in sort of a subtle way, but still enough that it makes you admire it!
(Duck Duck Goose, 2018) This is an adorable and underrated movie for the family, even though the villain may be a bit scary at times! I love how it focuses mostly on the animals, I love when movies focus mostly on the animals to the point that you forget the humans are there, but they still do show humans sometimes. The humans don't have like, speaking lines or anything. Also, the characters are adorable! Peng's character really reminds me of Rocky from Chicken Run, but a little more childish and care free. A better comparison to Peng would be Otis from Barnyard, at first he acts like he wants to party all the time, but then learns to become a man by the end of the movie. The ducklings, Chi and Chao, are so adorable! Chi's a very loving and helpful big sister, and she's voiced by Zendaya! Also, Stephen Fry voices one of the crane brothers (or maybe they're gay cranes? I have no idea...). The voice acting and characters are so amazing in this movie, and the scenery is also so gorgeous! The humor is also on point, and you'll love the little squirrel character! I also think this movie is good for maybe 6 and up, depending on how used to movies the kid is. My 6 year old self didn't have that kind of attention span yet but some kids are different. Anyway, I just consider it a good movie for the whole family!
(Ploey you Never Fly Alone, 2018) Okay, this one can be a bit sad but also has a pretty good story. I'm personally not too comfortable with kids having love interests in movies/shows, like kids that are younger than teenage. Because they're birds and have no confirmed age, you can feel however you want about the Ploey and Ploveria relationship. I'm only uncomfortable about it because they both sound young and it wasn't much time after Ploey hatched from an egg when they met, but again, they're birds. It's still a beautiful movie with fun characters and really talented voice acting! I put it at the bottom of the list because it's not one of my first choices, but I haven't seen it in a while. You may have different feelings about it. I think i recommend this movie more for 10 and up, it does have some emotional moments though. It's not really funny or anything either, so I don't recommend it for parties or family movie nights. If you love bird themed movies and have a friend who does, it's something nice that you can watch together when you're not busy.
I hope you like the movies I recommended, and let me know what you think in the comments! I love to chat!

~*~
Anyone who’s ever lived in a haunted house before will be familiar with the usual signs. Creaking floors, footsteps down the hallway, doors opening and closing on their own, whispers in other rooms. I, myself, am familiar with all of those, but those aren’t the things I’m experiencing in my current home. I hear less whispers and more longing sighs. I see shadows creeping around the corner. Sometimes the flap of wings. The click of formal shoes. I’ve recently started finding feathers in random places throughout the house. Long, black feathers. Bigger than any bird in my neighborhood.
I can feel whenever I’m being watched. The time I seem to be watched most is when I’m sleeping. Or at least laying in my bed at night. I can even see the outline of a figure if I look into the darkness for long enough and I swear the figure has horns and wings. Do you think it sees me, too?
~*~
The ghost. It’s a man. I know what he looks like now. He’s gotten bolder, closer. Or maybe I’ve just started paying more attention?
The places I find feathers have gotten more consistent. More specific. They’re only in parts of the houses I often frequent, like the kitchen and my own bedroom. And just the other day… I was in the bathroom, had just finished a shower. It was such a cliche. I wiped off the mirror and immediately I saw him, behind me. But unlike the movies, he didn’t flicker away as soon as I saw him. Instead, he stayed. He met my eyes. It was like he wanted me to see him. And so, I did. Soft, black, feathery hair with just the tiniest piece of his bangs turned gray. Deep, mysterious red and black eyes. Four black-feathered wings that are a glorious sight to behold, almost how one would imagine angel wings. But then my eyes catch on the large, black horns curving upwards from the top of his head. That’s when I’m reminded that he is certainly no angel.
Even so, he took my breath away. And he knew it. A look of pride upon his face before I blink and he’s finally gone. It took me a moment to recover after that. But it was not because I was terrified. Nor was I upset that he was intruding upon my home. All I felt in that moment was an intense curiosity, along with excitement at the thought of finding out more.
~*~
I’m starting to think something’s wrong with me. I can’t truly be thinking like this about a ghost, can I? But I can’t help it. He’s doing it on purpose. Seducing me. There’s no other way to describe it. I see him all the time now. He’s stopped trying to hide from me. He watches me openly now, during all hours of the day. I’ve started speaking to him. He’s there to listen, so I might as well, right? And sometimes he’ll answer. With gestures or the softest of whispers. But what’s more important is what happens at night.
Once I’ve shut off all the lights and settled beneath my blankets, that’s when I’ll feel it. Fingers brushing over my skin. Sometimes gloved, sometimes bare. First, it was just soft affection. Holding my cheek or tracing my hand. Then, he’d trace down my neck and over my calves. And now, he’s trailing down my chest and up my thighs with touches that can no longer be considered simple affection. No, these touches are filled with intent. And I know something’s fucked in my head because in response, I’ve started wearing less and less clothes to bed. He’s taking it as an invitation to continue and we both know that’s exactly what it is. Even before it’s bedtime, I’m already anticipating the feel of his fingers and the pleasure his touch brings.
I think he’s waiting to take a step further because he enjoys seeing me touch myself. He gets this smirk on his face as his low chuckle fills my ear and it only adds to my overloaded senses, driving me over the edge. Sometimes during the day, I’m unable to help myself when I think too much about it. When that happens, I always make sure to be loud enough so that he’ll know exactly what I’m doing.
Even now, questioning my own mind, I can’t find a single ounce of hesitation towards any of it.
~*~
Lucifer. Lucifer. Lucifer. That is my lover’s name. He finally told me when he gave himself to me completely. I got to see him in all his glory, laid bare and without any clothing in the way. Just as he saw me the same way. And not only did he touch me without holding back, but I got to touch him as well. We were finally joined as one and that’s when I knew for certain - this is love. It must be. There’s no other emotion I could use to describe how I feel for him. And I know he loves me, too. He told me so. Told me that even when he was alive he never loved another the way he loves me.
We’ll be together forever, him and I. He’s in my bed every night and right beside me throughout the day. He takes me whenever he feels like it and I would never dream of rejecting him. All of me belongs to him now, mind, body, and soul, and I don’t want it any other way.
~*~

Hey there tols, smols, and in between!
After lurking for years in the g/t community -- doing role plays here and there, consuming art and stories, and generally having that oomph feeling in the pit of my stomach with anything size related -- I figured it was time to contribute.
I’ve really enjoyed, and been inspired, by so many amazing artists and writers on here over the years (and elsewhere in the small corners of web g/t culture).
@tinyundercover (whose art and writing I’m a big fan of, har har chuckle chuckle) was nice enough to encourage me to try (along with a few others).
Table of Contents
I want to explore what an emotionally realistic, modern, "adult" love story would look like with humans and liliputians/borrowers without it going straight to kink/fetish. It's logistically easier to do this than giants in a human world for story purposes. If it has a link I've written it. If it hasn't been linked it's a WIP.
The story is chronologically from the top down. Parts may be added at random. Be warned all together I'm in hundreds of pages territory now.

I felt that it was only fair to give you an ask of your own
What are your top 10 (real or fantasy) critters and please tell me about them
First off, how did you know I love critters? Second:
1. My all time favourite animal since I saw them on NatGeoWild years ago: the Marine Iguana! A completely herbivorous species of iguana that lives in the Galapagos, they eat sea weed and sea grass which they can dive more than 20 meters (65 feet for the yanks) to get to! (I also have a character based on one)
Tumblr media
2. The Nile and/or Saltwater Crocodile: same reasoning as above, I love all croc species but Nile and Saltwater have a special place in my heart. I love the way crocs look, move and behave. Living in Australia, home of the salty's doesn't help either. All around just incredible creatures.
Tumblr media
3. Bearded Vulture: number 2 and 3 are very close on this listing but I had to put crocs above my favourite bird. The bearded vulture is super cool because it's diet primarily consists of bones! It eats the bones of dead animals it finds which also means that unlike other vultures it is able to have feathers that go up to its head because it doesn't have to worry about blood and meat getting in them! They will also roll around in red dirt that makes their naturally white feathers red, making it look super cool! (I also did a lino print of one in art class last year):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Hoatzin: another bird but its so cool looking! How could it not be one of my favourite animals! Known as the stink bird or skunk bird, this guy smells like ass but it also has a segmented stomach system (like a cow) making it able to digest leaves and other vegetation better than any other bird. Also, as babies they have little claws on their wings that help them climb from rivers if they accidentally fall into them (making them look like dinosaurs). (I also have a character based on the Hoatzin).
Tumblr media
5. Godzilla (sticking to the theme of dinosauric marine reptiles, huh? Maybe he just reminds me of the Marine Iguana): I just think he's neat, specifically in Shin Godzilla (2016) and Godzilla Minus One (2023) as in these movies they are incredible stand ins for their respective theme/disaster while also being great narrative foils for their respective protagonist (while also having my favourite designs of all the Godzilla's). (Godzilla is also the character that I have the most posters/merch for)
Tumblr media
6. African Lungfish: while not the only species of fish that can breath air, they have the incredible ability to form a mucus cocoon and go into a state of torpor (like hibernation) if the water where they live dries up. I am currently doing my science assignment on them and they are super cool.
Tumblr media
7. Thresher Shark: with a caudal fin that can be bigger than its whole body, this goofy lookin fella is my favourite shark species! They use that fin to whip fish, stunning them so they can eat it. They also use them to jump out of the water! (They also always look bamboozled and I love that)
Tumblr media
8. Aardwolf: a super cool little hyena lookin fella that is completely insectivorous! They primarily eat termites! I just think they look cool lmao, they have a mowhawk!! Little punk rockers!!
Tumblr media
9. Migaloo: my literal white whale. While we don't know if he is still alive or not, he has got to be my favourite whale, what I would give to see this guy irl.
Tumblr media
10. Clydesdale horse: gotta be my favourite horse, what a beefy fella. Hard working horse that looks super neat!
Tumblr media
(I realised as I got further from the top that I cared less and less about giving more detail than: looks cool! Visibly see my love for these animals has a drop off after 7 lmao) (I love them all I promise!)

2, 7, 10 for the HTTYD ask game?
2. What part of the franchise is your favorite and why?
Oh boy, that's so hard. I want to say RTTE because of the characterization we get to see with the Riders and their dragons, but I think I'm going to have to go with HTTD 2. The themes and the portrayal of Hiccstrid are just beautiful, and the depth of emotion that they managed in the second movie, particularly with Stoick's death, on top of the animation just can't be beat in my opinion
7. Do you have any OCs? If so, talk about their appearance, backstories, and personalities.
I have a handful of minor OCs that I use for my one shots and fics. My main OCs would be Spero and Willow Haddock (baby #3 and #4 respectively), unnamed Haddock baby #5, Nutmeg Ingerman (Rufflout's daughter), and Eirson (son of Alvin the Treacherous). I have a post about them all here actually! Baby #5 isn't on that post, just because I haven't gotten that far in the oneshots/fic so her character isn't fully fleshed out yet. But I'll add some stuff I don't have in the linked post on the others!
Nutmeg looks up to Zephyr a lot, she admires that Zephyr is proud of her role as the chief's heir and to Nutmeg, Zephyr is unshakable. She spends a lot of time around the Haddock kids, as they're essentially her siblings.
Something I mentioned in the discord server is that Astrid's nickname for Spero is "little bird" because of how quiet he is, also playing off of the confusion of literally everyone of "Spero" vs "Sparrow." He is a sponge and learns a lot out of Fishlegs' archives, eventually taking over for Fishlegs' in Zephyr's council.
Willow... Is spoiled. There's no sugar coating it, she gets whatever she wants. Her teenage years are painful for Hiccstrid, but she grows to be the kind of girl who will not take no for an answer. In the modern day she would make an excellent lawyer.
Eirson wasn't very popular with the adults on Outcast Island, but all of the kids loved him. He would play games with them, sing them songs, tell them stories, he always loved being around them. I don't want to say too much about Eirson just because his characterization is closely tied with big plot points in Wingless and Warbound.
There's a lot of stuff littered through the Wingless and Warbound discord server as well, @sanfangirl-cynicalromantic is particularly notorious for asking character-specific questions (which I love, she's honestly added a lot of qualities to the characters that I hadn't even thought of until she asked about it, so thanks!)
10. What are your favorite songs from the soundtracks?
Oh my gosh you picked the worst question on this list. I have tried to narrow this list down so hard and it still has like... 50% of the franchise's soundtracks on it. Okay okay okay so, my top 5 would probably be Downed Dragon, Forbidden Friendship, Test Flight, Stoick's ship, and Where No One Goes. And it is so painful to leave it at just five

The Residents: Commercial Album
Tumblr media
Objectively one of the greatest works of art on the planet, The Commercial Album's development is almost as interesting as the music itself. The whole thing is another dig at Top 40 radio but with a twist: Every song is around one minute as a commercial jingle. As a stunt, the band purchased 40 minutes worth of advertising space on San Francisco's most popular radio station at the time, KFRC, to play the album's songs over and over again for three days. Art or advertising? Who cares when these lucky bastards got to listen to Margaret Freeman on their morning commute?!
Easter Woman
Yes, the perfect ad for a grieving service for your dead spouses! Excellent and ominous!
9/10
2. Perfect Love
Steady thumping beats about whatever you choose to be affectionate with. Perfect for a cock ring commercial.
7/10
3. Picnic Boy
Perfect for an anti-fat shaming PSA...or a chain of restaurants called Picnic Boy.
9/10
4. End Of Home
Eerie and sounds like an approaching intruder...perfect for a security alarm system!
8/10
5. Amber
Got a good western theme to it. Perfect for a cowboy-themed diaper commercial!
8/10
6. Japanese Watercolor
Vaguely far eastern. Perfect to advertise an art gallery!
8/10
7. Secrets
An almost childish melody to accentuate the anxiety of keeping a personal matter (interesting if you know Hardy Fox was gay). Perfect for an antivirus ad!
10/10
8. Die In Terror
Literally horrifying. Perfect tune to advertise any horror movie with. Even Hobgoblins.
10/10
9. Red Rider
Another western themed one. This is perfect to advertise a dude ranch with!
8/10
10. My Second Wife
A bouncy tune that's perfect for any spouse to enjoy! Perfect for advertising a divorce office.
7/10
11. Floyd
Probably the most Residents song on the album with heavy synth and poppiness used to drown out the odd lyrics. Perfect for advertising Taco Bell!
8/10
12. Suburban Bathers
A nice creepy tune about watching others...probably. Perfect for advertising real estate.
9/10
13. Dimples And Toes
A tune that calls to mind horses galloping. Perfect for the defunct chain store Toys R Us!
7/10
14. The Nameless Souls
A nice jingle that feels more like gossip than a song. Perfect for advertising a dating service!
8/10

The group gets factory sex on us with machines imitated through their instruments. Perfect for advertising Pep Boys!
8/10
16. The Act Of Being Polite

7/10
23. Give It To Someone Else
Fretful and anxious, definitely the song you want to pass to another ear like a hot potato. Perfect for advertising condoms!

24. Phantom
Creeping and threatening, like it was composed by Erik himself. Perfect for advertising Broadway!
7/10
25. Less Not More
Bubbly and fun. Perfect for advertising champagne!

33. Loneliness
Don't let the loudness fool you. This song encapsulates the melancholy perfectly. Perfect for advertising League Of Legends!
10/10
34. Nice Old Man
Creeping and jarring, like every old man! Perfect for advertising retirement homes!
8/10

Such gallantry that you expect from knighthood. Perfect for advertising Renaissance Faires!
7/10
37. And Between Dreams
Definitely what you hear before you go to sleep. Perfect for advertising a mattress store!
7/10
38. Margaret Freeman
My favorite song from the album so expect no bias when I say it's Andy Patridge's (Sally Sandwich's) best work and should be preserved for future generations to discover. Perfect for advertising Bailey's Ice Cream.
100/10
39. The Coming Of The Crow
Practically getting into metal at this point. Perfect for advertising a Ford truck.
10/10
40. When We Were Young
A perfect way to send you off...and perfect for advertising Power 99 FM.

Album score: 105/100

Top 5 Songs on Repeat
They change but rn we got 3 songs in english and two in hebrew
Tumblr media
First two are from a metal album themed around time travel movies, it's great. Prescient is about the movie primer (great movie) and 28 Days is about Donnie Darko (6/10 movie). Third one is a metal cover of "A Song for Peace", an israeli anti-war song that Itzhak Rabin read out before being assassinated. Fourth is a cover of Sympathy for the Devil. Fifth is "Chill", a fittingly chill song by an israeli comedian.

I legit just woke up and imma do something that requires I use my brain yay: 9 people you wanna get to know better
Thanks for the tag @matchamabs lmao
1) Top three ships
Ya know ironically, despite the name, I don't do a lot of Canon x Canon ships. But I do have 3 for Punch Out specifically.
Carmen x Don: This one is pretty standard, like it's THE ship man, cmon. Bless pur dorky Spanish couple they deserve it
Hondo x Hugger: these two work both romantically and platonically and they're the absolute best. Like I love them so-
Bull x Soda: I think this was the ship that I was really really sold on. Like Gingerbread and Aradon? Cute but I was never sold on em, but these two fuckers? Hell to the yeah!
2) First ever ship
If it ain't obvious it was Sukiper. This was a combo ship between two characters from trolls cause yeah I was into it when I was younger, like 11 years old. DJ Suki and Cooper were my OTP, I loved em.
3) Last Song
Willow's Theme from Angry Birds Stella POP! Such a nice theme honestly, very tranquil. Also yeah I listen to Video Game OST's
4) Last Movie
Matilda, the 1996 one. It is my absolute fave adaption of a movie, and it just makes me feel so happy when I watch it. Used to watch it heaps as a Kid
5) Currently Reading
Eh, i don't read a lot. I guess it'd be the last thing I read which was Hound of the Baskervilles
6) Currently Watching
Chicago Series (Med, Fire, PD)
7) Currently Consuming

Twenty Questions for a Fic Writer
Tagged by @hearthouses and @ladyculebras!
How many works do you have on ao3?
162.
What's your total ao3 word count?
557,449 words.
What fandoms do you write for?
I tend to bounce from fandom to fandom and don't generally return to older ones, so the fandoms I've written for in the past I may not write much or at all in the future. I've written the most works for IT Movies, followed by Star Wars, but more recently I've been writing for The Locked Tomb and Danganronpa. All for the Game is probably my longest-standing fandom I can easily dip back into. I also have a bunch of other fandoms I've tried out writing once or twice for exchanges.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Unexpected - 1,192 kudos. Bojack Horseman, Bojack/Mr. Peanutbutter. Fake dating/accidental marriage. For a long time it was the most kudosed fic in the fandom but has now been surpassed by a couple of megacrossovers. I'm pretty proud of this one--I love any fic where I get to stretch my comedy muscles and I've been told it does pretty well at hitting the canon tone.
you know what they say about assumptions - 865 kudos. Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Anakin/Padme/Obi-Wan. Modern AU. Maybe the only modern AU I've ever written? I think it's just had a long time to compile kudos.
Into the Dark - 716 kudos. IT Movies, Richie/Eddie. Time loop.
The Kids Are Alright - 670 kudos. IT Movies, Richie/Eddie. Teen years getting together fic, the only explicit rated fic on this list.
Lights Will Guide You Home - 632 kudos. Star Wars, attempt at plot, eternally unfinished WIP that I started when I was sixteen. I do sometimes think about orphaning it.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I used to. I try to. But I ended up with a backlog that I can never get through and now I mostly just go in bursts and respond to everything on a couple recent fics and leave it at that.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
This feels hard to determine! I've written a lot of stories and it's hard to remember all of them, lol. I'm excluding noncon because that's too easy. Scorp's suggestion for this one was quiet birds in circled flight, which is an IT fic where Richie commits suicide. the kind of love (i've been dreaming of) is a Raven Cycle resurrected-and-came-back-wrong fic. an eye for an eye is an All For The Game gore fic where Neil gets his eye taken out and everything is terrible.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Unexpected is an accidental-marriage-turns-real fic that is pretty fluffy. real love is a heart attack is an arranged-marriage-turns-sexy fic. Maybe that's a theme. (Realizing as I go through my fics that I rarely write endings that are really nice or really bad. Usually somewhere in the middle.)
Do you get hate on fics?
I wrote a werewolf porn fic where some people got really mad about the wolf sex in the comments. Other than that, just some unrequested concrit a couple of times.
Do you write smut?
All the time. My nano story from last month ending up gen was the biggest shock of my life.
Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Never have, and I don't know if I ever will. They just don't really appeal to me for some reason.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I think it happened in IT fandom, but by the time I went to look into it it was gone already.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! One of my All for the Game fics was translated into Russian.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Never done it. If I did so, I'd definitely want to ask someone who speaks the language to look it over for me.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I think I'm too much of a control freak and also slightly uncertain how it would work.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
Whatever I'm currently obsessed with eclipses everything, so I don't know if I have all-timers, but Neil/Riko from All for the Game eats my brain all the time.
What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Anything from prior fandoms, really. But I can't think of any examples right now. I have a million little bits and pieces floating around in my google drive, but I'm not really thinking about them anymore.
What are your writing strengths?
I love writing smut. Apparently I'm good at dialogue, although I find it painful a lot of the time. When I try for comedy, it tends to land. And I love writing horror and I'm always delighted when people tell me I've genuinely disturbed them, lol.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm terrible at plot. It's really hard for me to think of things to happen, which seems like an insane problem for a writer to have, but it's true. And I'm not great at doing any kind of heavy editing. 80% of what I type the first time stays on the page.
First fandom you wrote for?
Hunger Games, when I was 11/12.
Favorite fic you've written?
Oh, man, I think I have a recency bias, but Crashing is definitely the fic I'm proudest of. It's 72k and almost five times as long as the previous longest story I'd ever finished. It was a huge accomplishment and I'm still so happy I did it.

Andy Stochansky (Ani DiFranco, Dragonette) Releases Title Track (+ Music Video) Off Upcoming Album 'Poetry of Birds'
Tumblr media
Andy Stochansky has dropped the title track off his upcoming album Poetry Of Birds, along with a music video.
On the heartfelt new single, Stochansky pays homage to loved ones who shaped his perspective.
“That song is almost a ‘thank you’ to the people who taught you respect for life, nature, and other people,” he says. “It could be a grandparent, parent, friend, or anyone.”
The album will be released in 2025.
Stream the new single "Poetry Of Birds" here: https://onerpm.link/PoetryOfBirds Watch the music video here: https://youtu.be/6XyiImKtzz8
Andy Stochansky highlights life’s most delicate details in his music, zooming into and exploring the wonder and magic of each day. This intimate approach enables him to naturally connect via vivid and vibrant lyrics soundtracked by organic instrumentation. Now, he embraces the beauty of simplicity on Poetry Of Birds. The title effectively speaks to the overarching theme.
“It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the modern world,” he observes. “I love electronics as much as anybody else does, but I wanted to show some respect to nature. It can teach us everything we need. Poetry Of Birds is a reminder to look at the beauty of the simple things around us.”
It’s also indicative of the wisdom that Andy has picked up throughout his illustrious career. Taking the first step on his professional journey, the Toronto native spent seven years as a touring and studio musician for indie icon Ani DiFranco. In 1999, he released his critically acclaimed solo debut LP, Radio Fusebox. He only continued to evolve across solo records such as 5 Star Motel [2001] and 100 [2005], which was produced by none other than Johnny Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls. Making waves worldwide, Australian Idol winner Shannon Noll notably covered Andy’s song “Shine,” notching a #1 for eight weeks on the Australian Singles Chart as a result. Plus, the latter landed various film, television, and commercial syncs. It even served as the theme song for the Commonwealth Games.
Settling in Los Angeles, he logged countless sessions, penning music for everyone from Dragonette to Goo Goo Dolls and Lola Lennox—produced by her mother Annie Lennox. He notably co-wrote the “Hyper Love” for Ferry Corsten, earning a Top 10 entry on the Billboard Dance Singles Chart. His other major placements included Cider Sky’s “Northern Lights” for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (Soundtrack), which bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart and Top US Soundtrack Albums Chart and in the Top 4 of the Billboard 200. 2020 saw him introduce White Elephant Orchestra with the project’s first offering, Debut. Right out of the gate, tastemakers like NPR World Café championed the music with airplay.
During 2022, he immersed himself into this latest solo project.
“I love collaboration, but I had a real need for my own voice to be out there again,” he explains. “Lyrically, I have a pretty high bar for myself because the people I’ve worked with also had such high bars. I just wanted to be able to knock this project out of the park on my own.”
He nodded to inspirations as diverse as movies and poetry to nature and the various people around him, in addition to wrestling with our society’s dependency on technology. Among many highlights, “Beautiful Sky” dives into this core concept. Revolving around lithe acoustic guitar, gentle verses give way to an anthemic refrain, “all I need is a beautiful sky.”
“It was actually the first song I wrote for this record,” he recalls. “It’s specifically about being overwhelmed by social media. Often, you need to walk outside, look up, and just chill from it all.”
Then, there’s “Oxygen.” Between brisk strumming and a lively beat, he leans into a hummable melody. He makes a pledge to a friend in a time of need, going on to urge, “Let me be your oxygen.”
“I wrote that song about a friend who went through a really bad divorce,” he notes. “I wasn’t around him in Toronto, so all I could do was check up on him through FaceTime and just hear him out. It’s just about helping somebody else.”
Accented by light synths, the stripped-down soundscape of “Champion” underlines a captivating vocal performance and his eloquent storytelling. “After a concert, my wife and I went to this diner,” he elaborates. “One waitress was alone, and she serving easily a hundred people. I realized I could never do that job. I was sitting in the booth, and this whole story came to me. She’s surrounded by craziness, but she’s staying calm and killing it."
In the end, Andy might inspire you to treasure the little things around you even more.
“I want people to walk away with a sense of hopefulness,” he leaves off. “I hope this album is strong enough so you can remember the stories. I put a lot of care into them, and I’m happy to finally share them.”

Fun and cozy winter break activities for family bonding
Winter break is a wonderful opportunity for families to slow down and spend quality time together. Whether you're cozying up indoors or heading outside to explore the season, there are countless ways to make this break fun, memorable, and full of laughter. Here are some ideas for winter break activities with kids that everyone will enjoy!
1. Get creative with DIY
Winter is the perfect time to bring out the craft supplies and get creative! DIY craft projects can keep kids entertained for hours, and they get to create their own winter wonders. Whether you're making paper snowflakes or decorating ornaments, these activities provide endless opportunities for fun and creativity.
Craft ideas:
Create snowflakes from paper or glitter
Design holiday cards for loved ones
Make a homemade snow globe with mason jars
Tip: Get the kids involved in choosing the craft materials, and let their creativity shine!
2. Indoor scavenger hunt adventure
On those chilly days when you want to stay inside, an indoor scavenger hunt is a great way to keep the kids entertained and moving. Create clues and hide small treasures around the house for the kids to find. Make it a winter-themed hunt with things like snowflakes, mittens, or holiday decorations.
Scavenger hunt ideas:
Hide winter items like scarves, mittens, or holiday decorations
Incorporate puzzles or riddles for an extra challenge
Give small prizes for finding each clue
Tip: You can customize the hunt to be educational, like having kids solve math problems or spell out winter-related words.
3. Bake together for cozy treats
Baking is an excellent way to spend time together while filling the house with delicious smells! From cookies to gingerbread houses, baking gives kids a chance to be hands-on and creative in the kitchen. It’s also a great way to teach them about measurements and patience, all while having fun.
Baking ideas:
Bake sugar cookies or gingerbread houses and decorate them
Make hot cocoa and add fun toppings like whipped cream, marshmallows, or sprinkles
Try baking bread or pizza together for something savory
Tip: Let the kids decorate their creations with frosting, sprinkles, or edible glitter. It’s a great way for them to express their creativity!
4. Explore the outdoors with a winter nature walk
Even in the cold weather, getting outside can be a refreshing change. A winter nature walk can be a simple but beautiful way to explore the outdoors. Bundle up in your warmest coats, scarves, and mittens, and take a walk to enjoy the crisp winter air. You might even find tracks in the snow or discover winter birds.
Outdoor ideas:
Go on a winter birdwatching adventure
Collect pinecones or berries for crafting later
Explore nearby parks or nature reserves for a peaceful winter stroll
Tip: Make it a learning experience by bringing along a nature guide to spot local winter wildlife!
5. Build a cozy winter fort
Winter is the perfect season for building forts—whether it’s a snowy one outside or a cozy indoor retreat made of blankets and pillows. Kids love creating their own little hideaway, and it gives them a chance to use their imaginations. Once the fort is built, you can even spend the afternoon reading stories or playing games inside.
Fort-building ideas:
Build an indoor fort with blankets and fairy lights
Decorate the fort with cozy cushions and winter-themed decorations
Tip: Make the fort extra special by turning it into a "winter wonderland" with decorations or even a hot cocoa station nearby!
6. Movie marathon with family favorites
When the weather outside is frightful, a movie marathon can be delightful! Gather the family together with blankets, pillows, and your favorite snacks for a cozy movie session. You can pick a winter-themed movie, or go with timeless classics like Home Alone or The Polar Express.
Movie ideas:
Watch holiday classics or winter-themed films
Have a popcorn and hot cocoa bar for movie time
Let the kids choose a few of their favorite movies for a fun family vote
Tip: Set up a movie "ticket" system where kids earn tickets for doing their chores or finishing their homework. They can "redeem" them for a movie night!
7. Give back
The holiday season is the perfect time to teach kids the value of giving. Volunteering together can help foster empathy and kindness, and it’s a meaningful way to spend time together. Whether you're donating toys, helping at a food bank, or making cards for those in need, giving back is a beautiful way to make the season brighter for others.
Volunteering ideas:
Help at a local shelter or food bank
Create homemade cards for nursing homes or care facilities
Organize a toy or clothing donation drive in your community
Tip: Encourage your kids to come up with their own ideas for giving back, making it a family effort to spread kindness.
In conclusion
Winter break is the perfect time to slow down, spend quality time with family, and enjoy some cozy activities together. From baking in the kitchen to building forts or even exploring the outdoors, there are endless ways to bond and create lasting memories. The key is to keep things simple, fun, and, most importantly, filled with love and laughter. So grab your scarves, gather the family, and make this winter break unforgettable with these winter break activities with kids!
Tip for the Best Boarding Schools in NCR:
If you're looking to explore academic options while bonding as a family, consider visiting Sancta Maria International School. Ranked among the Top IB Schools in Faridabad, it offers a nurturing environment for students while promoting a well-rounded education. It’s a great way to integrate educational planning into family activities, all while enjoying the winter break together.
