Welcome to the madness that I use as self-care. My name is Ruth.
I'm in school to become a therapist (peep the mental health resources below). Fan fiction holds an extraordinary place in my heart, it all started with Twilight OCs on Quotev when I was like 11. Morphed into some pop-punk band member self-inserts (RIP bandmembertories, it was a weird period of my life but fundamental to who I am now). Now we're here.
My inbox and chat are always open if you wanna chat.

hitchhikers guide to the galaxy for the fandom ask:)
AAA 100% was hoping someone would ask for this fandom so so so let's go let's go
favorite male character : judging by my blog theme, it should be obvious... marvin the paranoid android, my beloved... i feel so deeply for his character, i think about him all of the time...
favorite female character : favorite character of the entire series, the one and only tricia marie macmillan. my only gripe ever with the series is how it handles trillian in particular. by far, she was the smartest person in the entire main cast. the curse of being a female character in classic science fiction series 😔😔😔😔
least favorite character : i have no idea about this... I enjoyed every character in the series very wholeheartedly. the main cast of arthur, ford, marvin, zaphod and trillian, all the other side characters.
favorite ship : forthur, of course, never misses. but surprisingly, I really like zaphod x trillian as well, they have so much potential and they are worth developing. if i ever wrote a ship!fic for h2g2 (specifying ship!fic, because i have particular moods where i feel like writing a gen marvin-centric fic and one of these days, i might just give in), i would wrote for them.
favorite friendship : though forthur is my favorite romantic ship, i like their friendship too much. they are one of those parings that are compelling in both a romantic and platonic context. alternatively, i also like zaphod's dynamic with literally anyone.
favorite quote : h2g2 has such BANGER quotes, i have to make a top 3 list for this question. three of my favorite quotes in no particular order:
the obligatory "the story so far: in the beginning the universe was created. this has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
"now the world has gone to bed / darkness won't engulf my head / i can see by infrared / how I hate the night. / now i lay me down to sleep / try to count electric sheep / sweet dream wishes you can keep / how i hate the night - marvin."
"there is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. there is another which states that this has already happened.
worst character death : MARVIN'S DEATH. IT AFFECTED ME IN A WAY NO WILL EVER UNDERSTAND. bro was not present the entire so long and thanks for all the fish book and in the LAST FEW CHAPTER HE SHOWS UP. ONLY TO DIE. it was so tragic to me, "i think i feel good about it" right after "we apologize for the inconvenience." if i think too much of his death, i will cry.
this made me so happy you have no idea moment : an odd scene to be happy about but that marvin lullaby scene in life, universe and everything. for a non-marvin option, another one of my favorite moments is the one at the end of the restaurant at the end of the universe where the scrabble pieces spell out "what do you get if you multiply six by nine"
saddest moment : marvin's death but also the whale and petunia scene. that scene with the sperm whale should not BE THAT SAD. this series is one of my favorites and i will remember a detail from it and i will be more at awe and more in love with these books. like the thought process of the bowl of petunias like "curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was oh no, not again. many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the nature of the universe than we do now.” AND NOW THAT IN LIFE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING, WE KNOW THAT IT WAS ONE OF AGRAJAG'S REINCARNATIONS.
favorite location : i have got to be 100% honest... i do not understand the different locations in this series at all. like the whole deal with krikkit and milliways just went right over my head. just to answer this question, let's just go with magrathea because that's really important.
#🍂 arian's shit#as you can tell. i like marvin a little bit. while trillian is my favorite character#marvin is like... my favorite detail of this series? but yes i like him a lot#very very very much#the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy#h2g2#crash into the 42nd answer

general blog stuff: 💜 hello! names gems! I'm 25 and have brain rot for this man. im sorry im like this. I have no excuse. it's the British accent and Mathew Lillard for me. 💜 I'm rather picky about my man. Dave Miller, or as i like to call him "nft monkey", will not be on my blog unless someone draws him very well and to my liking. 💜I'm also selective on his weight. I'm aware that it is canon that he was a bigger man but il be honest, I dont trust Scott or a lot of fans with weight in relation to him being a deplorable murderer man. as a 400+ ib person myself, I dont feel comfortable with my own weight on such a man even though I love him dearly. also, as a big person myself, the internet has sorta tainted seeing plus-size fictional characters in a pos light due to fetishes and junk. idk who to trust with my size or not. especially on a character I care so much about. . + I admit I have a horrid taste that's been tainted by Tumblr sexy men. I'm sorry. I love plus-size Afton art in general but my self-ship blog will most likely not have it for my own body comfort and tastes. its not a 100% no but it depends. self shipping involves a connection to art and i just dont feel it for a lot of plus-size art. I do get the gender pos feels though. i love seeing him, its just more my own insecurities with people online involving weight. 💜please be nice. ik people aren't fond of Afton fans, I've had my good share of stinkers. he is a comfort character on top of a f/o so please just. if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. tags:
💜🐇 = William
💛 🎈 = Bonbon
🍰 💃 = Ms. Afton
🧰🐻 = Henry
self-insert: 💜 name: Bonbon Benson 💜 age: 25+ (it changes around but always mid 20s - late 30's) gender/pronouns: nonbinary any but mainly she/her bio down below VVVVVVVVVV
Bio: as a child, bonbon wasn't very well cared for. her parents were poor and always fought. this caused Bonbon to hide away in themselves and try to not be a burden. they eventually developed a love for robotics and wanted to further that career but their homelife and mid to high-functioning autism made that difficult. her parents eventually divorced after the birth of her sibling, Molly, and stuff started to look a bit better. but that didn't last long. bonbon couldn't manage to finish high school due to her anti-social behavior, lack of friends, poor home life, and poor grades in most classes outside of math and science. She is 25+ now and still needs to get her GED but living with her distant dad and no friends, it's very hard to think. its not the best environment to do schoolwork. never was. after the divorce, her mother gained a large sum of money and this caused her sibling to be rather spoiled, which their mother isn't fond of so to help her branch out, she let her have visits with Bonbon and their dad.....aka just bonbon.
(pic of molly. picrew link: here) there are not many places a kid would enjoy in Hurricane, Utah. molly only wanted to go to the library but Bonbon felt like their little sister deserved someplace better. then she saw an ad for Freddy's. idk which Freddy's, they change with the timelines, vers of William etc but it's usually between Fred Bears and Freddy's JUST opening. early enough for Bonbon to still see William use the Springbonnie suit at least a few times before showcasing the band. once they got there, bonbon fell in love. the lights, the games, the animatronics....everything. they never had anything like it as a child. they felt so happy just being able to see something so lively.....and yet it brought Molly no joy. She found it loud, crowded, and annoying.
bonbon couldn't understand. She was a kid??? why did she like it so much??? it infuriated Bonbon...but at least she wasn't alone. after a few visits, the founders took notice of the hyper adult adoring their pizzeria with no child in sight (Molly stayed cooped in one of the booths the whole time). and William eventually started striking up conversations. bonbon is a....hyper sort. easy to read and William found it refreshing. As much as she adores what he does, she isn't afraid to say how she feels. just barely a filter on this little lady. idk what more to say lol. they become silly murder partners, bonding over how much kids take that adults also enjoy and their lost youths
either ms afton is a few years already dead or in their silly polycule.

WIP - Signal in the Void by Olivia Black
-….. …——..-.. ….. ……-.-.-.- .—..-..-.. -.——-..- ..-…-.. ..- ..—..
This shift always seemed to drag. Most of the crew of the Yang Toa was tucked up in their bunks, but Scully had drawn the short straw and was manning the nav. Not that there was much she needed to do. The coordinates for Ganymede Station were locked in, and the shit was running on auto. She was only there to deal with anything unexpected, which meant she was struggling to stay awake as she babysat a console. The data cable plugged into her cortical implant fed her a constant drip of status updates — all green — from various ship systems. It used to be an AI with a full personality load out would handle the feed and keep pilots alert, but not anymore with all the new regulations making it prohibitively expensive to maintain an AI ethically. Most companies had made the choice to dismantle their AIs, including her own. Scully had never quite adapted to the change, still expecting to hear a startlingly cheerful voice murmuring in the back of her mind. Not that it was going to be an issue for long. This was her last run before transferring to an administrative posting with the company. Admin was its own kind of monotonous, but at least she’d be having dinner with her family every night.
A hand clamped down on her shoulder, jerking her out of her thoughts. The shrill whine that flooded her kind of brain signalling she’d pulled the data cable loose at her abrupt movement made her shudder and twitch. She scrambled to fix it, momentarily distracted from the interloper on her bridge.
“Sorry,” Hamdi said sheepishly. “Thought you heard me coming up.”
“And I thought you had first shift. Shouldn’t you be sawing wood, right now?”
“Sawing — what does that even mean?” He said, nonplussed as he levered himself into the copilot’s chair.
“Dunno. It’s something my grandmother always said about grandpa. Apparently he snored.” Scully side-eyed him with a smirk.
“I do not snore.”
“Did you think it was coincidence you got that cabin to yourself?”
“Lies and slander. And here I was thinking I’d keep you company on your last duty shift.”
“Wow. Are you getting sentimental on me?” Scully mocked, even if some part of her warmed at the thought. She was trying not to think about it, but she was going to miss the ragtag bunch she’s been running transport with for the last few years.
“Maybe I’m here to talk you into staying. You’re the only other person on this boat ho knows how to cook anything halfway decent.”
“And deprive my family of my ‘halfway decent’ cooking?” She asked as she lazily flicked open the tab in her visual overlay for the ship’s scanner readout. There shouldn’t be anything on it; they’ve run this route dozens of times, and never carry high value cargo, which was why they were a slow transit rig.
Instead of a clear field, there was a blinking red dot indicating an unknown object moving at high speed.
“Hold on,” she said, cutting off Hamdi’s reply. “I’ve got something on scanners.”
“Pull it up.” Hamdi made the switch from jovial to in command on a dime. Scully was already sending the live feed to the central display as the main computer kicked off a shipwide alert. The objects projected trajectory was now overlaid on the feed.
“Shit, that’s coming straight for us. Still to far out for an ID.” Scully regretted her earlier boredom.
“How long until it’s in visual range?” Hamdi asked from where he was busy pooring over the secondary console.
“Less than a minute.”
“Holy hell, it’s moving fast.” He toggled the intercom to the engine room. “I hope you people are awake down there. We’ve got trouble brewing.”
“We saw the alert. FTL’s spooling up. Shouldn’t be more than a minute.” The night shift engine lead’s voice rang clean through the bridge.
“Good. Scully —“
“Already plotting emergency jump. Hopefully we won’t need it.” She was bent over the console, her overlay adding helpful notation as the VI double checked her calculations.
“Entering visual range,” Hamdi announced as a new window popped open with the visual feed from sensors. Scully paused her hurried typing to gawk at the slender, oblong pod.
“What is that?” All thoughts of plotting the jump fled her mind as she tried to puzzle out this thing that looked like it belonged in a direct-to-stream vid.
“A seeker missile,” Hamdi replied, his normally dusky skin was an unhealthy palor. “I’m launching counter measures. Get those jump vectors plugged in already. The decoy buoys will only keep it off us for a few seconds, if we’re lucky. We need to be out of here before it has a chance to scan us.”
“Those things are real?” Scully’s fingers are flying over the haptic keyboard. “I thought they were bedtime stories they tell baby pilots to keep ‘em up at night.”
“Unfortunately for us, they’re very real. Decoy payload is away. Contact in five.”
“Vector’s are in; compu’s running the final check. Shipwide alert is sent.”

Shoutout to the person who waded through thousands of my posts to find one where I denounce the anti vaxx movement, and call me a pharma shill, while also spectacularly missing the point. It was a fantastic thing to see for thing when I woke up.
Trust me, my life would be a lot better if I got paid $1000 every time I said that vaccines have a centuries long track record of working, but sadly those checks haven't shown up in the mail.
I still don't get how I'm the unreasonable one for saying that autism is not worse than condemning hundreds of thousands of children to being killed, disabled or disfigured by preventable diseases... Like, no one who's attacked me for saying that will even address it. They just say I'm wrong about the side effects, but say those side effects are real, I'd still take them over an infant mortality rate so high that it takes twenty years of the statistic for average life spans. Just saying.

Soft Hiatus
Just a heads-up; I've got a bunch of stuff in my life that I need to be focusing on instead of spending way too much time fighting with The Hellsite to keep my queue even moderately full.
I don't want to leave altogether, so the compromise I've struck with myself is that I'll be posting much less, and only be actively around on Sundays to fill up my queue.
Hopefully, I'll be able to come back as actively as I used to be, and maybe even have more writing to share. In the meantime, keep being swell :)

This year's pumpkin is Guilmon! :D
All in all about 3.5 hours to make, about 15 minutes tops to draw the outline right on the pumpkin, no test-sketching.
I've never drawn a guilmon before lol

Something that fully healthy people don't really seem to understand about chronic health issues is what running on an energy deficit is like long-term. It's more exhausting than you can possibly imagine if you haven't experienced it.
How does that work? Well, it's sort of like this. Everybody has a certain amount of energy. When you're healthy and well-rested, you feel pretty good. There are artificial boosters that give you more energy, too. You can do all sorts of stuff.
When you get tired, you can still do some stuff but you can't do as much and what you can do might suffer from lack of energy. Except that's essentially your every day existence with chronic health issues. You go to sleep tired, and wake up tired--sometimes more tired!
Your energy levels rarely reach "full"--that is, there's few points where you are in a "well rested" state where you feel pretty good and have "normal" levels of energy. You're *always* operating in "low battery" mode rather than being fully charged, and you drain *fast*.
This makes doing basic tasks much harder than need be--things that drain a little energy you notice a hell of a lot more when you're already dead tired than when you're well-rested. Like how when your phone drops from 10% to 9% you notice more than from 100% to 99%.
You can do some stuff--but you have an upper limit of what you can do that's a lot lower than other people. And functioning while running against a deficit at all times means a *lot* of careful, conservative planning to husband your strength for when you need it most.
It means sometimes spending 30 minutes deliberating what you should buy when you reach the store because you're trying to guess "will I have the energy to prepare this food after shopping? Will I later this week?" You hedge your bets when you can.
It means skipping out on a lot of stuff you'd otherwise love to do because you just can't be sure you'll have the energy to do it without landing yourself in bed for the next 3 days by pushing yourself to collapse. It's depressing. And it's exhausting.
EDIT: This post is for people with physical AND mental health causes for their fatigue and exhaustion, by the way! I know there are posts that really are meant only for one or the other and it's rude to hijack them, but if you find this resonates with you then you're welcome to it regardless of the cause!

What Makes Cappadocia A Lunar Landscape on Earth?
Cappadocia is a spectacular region in central Turkey and geological sighting. This destination seems to have stepped out of a science fiction novel. The otherworldly landscape has been sculpted by wind, water, and time and has earned the nickname "fairy chimney land." Please read this blog post and know what makes Cappadocia a must-visit destination during Turkey tours:
Fairy Chimneys - The Natural Masterpieces
An iconic feature of Cappadocia is the fairy chimneys. They are nothing but towering, conical rock formations and are the result of millions of years of erosion. Soft volcanic rock – known as tuff, was sculpted by wind, rain, and rivers and left behind these extraordinary structures. Some fairy chimneys have the harder basalt cap which protects the softer layers below and creates a mushroom-like shape.
Uchisar Castle - A Fortress of Rock
Uchisar Castle is a gigantic rock formation that dominates the surrounding landscape. Emerging 100 meters above the town of Uchisar, this castle offers breathtaking panoramic views of the region. This ancient citadel was once a giant fairy chimney carved into by humans over the centuries. It results in a labyrinth of interconnected chambers and tunnels.
Mesas - Flat-Topped Mountains
Cappadocia stands out as the home to several mesas or flat-topped mountains. These are the unique formations created by erosion that left behind a hard, resistant layer of rock forming the summit. You can enjoy exciting activities like hiking and exploring the surrounding countryside while visiting Mesas.
Devrent Valley - A Surreal Landscape
Devrent Valley is also known as Imagination Valley - a surreal landscape filled with bizarre rock formations. The valley stands out as home to a huge concentration of animal-shaped rocks, including a dolphin, a seal, and even a praying Mary. The unusual shapes of these rocks have inspired visitors to let their imaginations run wild.
Mushroom-shaped Chimneys
You can find these fairy chimneys in Gulsehir Open Palace, and they are one of the most breathtaking chimneys in Cappadocia. They form like all other fairy chimneys and the only difference is that the top layer of basalt is eroded into a mushroom-shaped cap that makes them worthwhile.
Final Conclusion
Cappadocia is an exceptional and unforgettable destination in Turkey. Its otherworldly landscape, combined with its rich history and culture, make it a must-visit for any travelers visiting Turkey. Whether you intend on exploring ancient cave dwellings, hiking through beautiful valleys, or simply marveling at the natural beauty, Cappadocia has something to offer everyone.
Do you want to experience the best of what Cappadocia has on offer? Please check out available Turkey tour packages provided by Istanbul Local Guides. My Own Top Ten for the 21st Century (thus far...)
The New York Times recently surveyed some 500 writers, thinkers, editors and cultural figures and came up with a list of the best 100 books of the 21st Century so far. It’s an interesting project and, at least by my lights, a pretty fair reckoning.
One of the most unusual aspects of the project was its scope: Any book of any sort, any genre, any language, could be included in the list, as long as it first appeared in English this century. That means that, for instance, Zora Neale Hurston’s “Barracoon,” though written roughly 100 years ago, was eligible.
The list spurred me to think back over the books I have read since 2000, and to try my own forced ranking. I was pretty sure I knew which book would end up on top, and indeed it did, but I was surprised by some of the volumes I ended up putting in the top ten, and the ones that got aced out.
I ended up with a list of 73 “top” books to choose from. I could have easily built it out to a round 100, but that would have been disingenuous: I limited my list to books that had stuck with me; I had to love them or, if not that, they had to have had a significant, lasting effect on me.
[Update: The list felt incomplete at 73 so I went back and scoured my shelves and this blog and a few dozen annual best-of lists and built it out to a full 100.]
There are plenty of well-regarded books published in the last 24 years that I read but just didn’t particularly vibe with. An example would be “Americanah” (No. 27 on the NYT list.) I could have included it at the bottom of my personal top 100 since I read it and it was published within the required timeline, and furthermore it was a big, much-discussed title, but what would be the point of calling it one of my “top” books when I don’t feel much of anything about it? Other highly regarded books that just didn't connect with me, at least when I read them for the first time, include "Tree of Smoke" by Denis Johnson (No. 100 on the NYT), "The Flame Throwers" by Rachel Kushner (No. 58 on the NYT), and "A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan (No. 39 on the NYT.) I keep meaning to go back to the Kushner and Egan books because they are so well-regarded, and it may be that when I picked them up the first time it just wasn't the right moment for me to read them. Similarly, the Times' No. 1 book, "My Brilliant Friend," is one that I had picked up and lost patience with, in fact more than once. Since the list appeared I have reopened it to give it another go.
On the other hand, there were a handful of books on my list that I pretty much actively disliked, and yet recognized their power and, more importantly, am still thinking about them years later. Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Unaccustomed Earth” is one of these (I wrote about it here), as is Ayad Akhtar’s “Homeland Elegies” (I wrote about it here). So they made the list.
Another rule I set for my own list: I had to remember the book. That sounds silly, but hear me out. I’ve read all of Alice Munro’s collections over the years, including two that were listed on the NYT list, but the fact is, I don’t remember a thing of them. Not a single story. I’ve been meaning to go back and re-read Munro, especially having spent most of 2022 reading and reflecting on Chekhov, but at the moment I could not tell you a thing about her stories, whether published this century or not. So there’s no Munro on my list.
I liked the openness of the Times’ list — any sort of genre was fine, low- or high-brow be damned. I thought my own list would probably be drier, more self-consciously high-brow, since I’m not much for genre fiction. Plus, I have been called pretentious! But to my surprise, quite a few genre works ended up on my list. There were two graphic novels (well, memoirs, as it happens): “Fun Home” by Allison Bechdel (No. 35 on the NYT list) and “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant,” by Roz Chast. I ended up citing more science fiction than I would have expected: “Super Sad True Love Story” by Gary Shteyngart; “Mort(e)” by Robert Repino; and “The Martian” by Andy Weir. I even have what I would classify as a fantasy novel: “The Buried Giant,” by Kazuo Ishiguro (but definitely not his more widely admired “Never Let Me Go,” which I didn’t like, and yet which placed No. 9 (gasp) on the NYT list.)
Anyway, my list ended up nicely variegated, especially the top ten, with a mix of fiction and non-fiction, newer and older titles, and writers from around the world. The countdown:
No. 10. The Smoking Diaries by Simon Gray
This one snuck in at the last minute, shouldering out a handful of titles that seemed like shoo-ins at the outset. Gray’s fluid, elegant writing is unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It's a cockeyed memoir and t reads as if it were composed in real time, just dashed off on the page. The effect is something like being right there in his brain, as the words form out of flashing electrical pulses. I’m sure there is artifice and revision involved, but it feels, to use the same word again, electrically alive. Also, it’s very funny, and, unexpectedly, moving, as Gray grapples with the memory of his deeply imperfect parents and the loss of his wildly self-destructive brother. (This book was not among the top 100 on the New York Times list.)
No. 9. Citizen by Claudia Rankine
This short collection, mixing essay and poetry, gave me a sense of how exhausting and dispiriting it can be to be black in majority white America. It’s not about slavery, Jim Crow, police brutality, or even redlining or school busing, or any of the livid marks of racism in America. It’s more about inconvenience, insult, hurt and alienation. Even though it deals, much of the time, with minor issues, it is a powerful document. It’s one of the few books I can think of that changed my mind while I was reading it. (No. 34 on the NYT list.)
No. 8. The Lazarus Project by Aleksandr Hemon
Hemon was one of the few writers to have multiple titles in my top 73, and another work of his—the lighter, funnier, “Making of Zombie Wars”—was very close to actually sneaking into my top ten, which is to say I really love Hemon, especially these two works, where he separates himself, at least a bit, from the trauma of his exile from Bosnia. That trauma certainly flavors both “The Lazarus Project” and “Zombie Wars,” but it’s not the central focus. “Lazarus” manages to be seriously funny even though takes on serious issues (race, exile) and serious sadness. (Not on the NYT list.)
No. 7. The Dying Grass by William T. Vollmann
This is the American Iliad. It's that damn good. It’s the story of the misnamed “Nez Perce War,” which was really a long, awful chase across the American West, the Nez Perce tribe mostly in retreat, the American cavalry in pursuit. Profoundly powerful, incredibly well-researched, beautifully written and imagined, and, sadly, too long by at least several hundred pages, this novel is much, much too difficult to reach the audience that it deserves. (Not on the NYT list.)
No. 6. When We Cease to Understand the World by Benjamin Labatut
A deadly serious consideration of the unintended, and tragic, repercussions of scientific breakthroughs. The only fault I find with the book is that it is not quite fiction and not quite fact. For some reason, Labatut adds a few fictional curlicues to what would otherwise be historical essays. I just don’t see the point of that decision. (No. 83 on the NYT list.)
No. 5. Dancing Bears by Witold Szablowski
A brilliant mix of history and reportage that asks (and answers) a painfully uncomfortable question: Do we have the courage to be free? When I first read this volume, it helped me understand life in the post-Soviet republics. Alas, today, it helps me understand life right here in the United States. (Not on the NYT list.)
No. 4. Barracoon by Zora Neale Hurston
The life of Cudjo Lewis, an African man who in 1860 was captured in an inter-kingdom raid in West Africa, held in a prison, or barracoon, on the coast, and sent to America in chains, part of the very last shipment of African prisoners into American slavery. Much of the book is presented as oral history, in Lewis’s own words. Hurston is a brilliant interlocutor, pacing the story like a novel, preserving Lewis’s verbal tics but rendering them easily understandable to a modern reader. The text is nearly 100 years old but the prose is fresh and alive. Lewis's story is a mix of tragedy and triumph. (Not on the NYT list.)
No. 3. Outline by Rachel Cusk
For several years in the late aughts and early teens, I found myself reading books that were presented as fiction but seemed, for all intents and purposes, to be unadorned memoir or reminiscence, with little concern for event or plot, and a focus on psyche, perception and emotion. I coined a term for these works, “The New Anti-Novel,” not realizing that academics and cultural arbiters were observing the same trend and referring to these works as autofiction. This is the novel that seemed to crystallize the moment: An essentially perfect work, a series of encounters, glimpses of reality. (No. 14 on the NYT list.)
No. 2. The Mystery Guest by Gregoire Bouillier
A charming memoir that reads like fiction—in fact, it reads like the obsessive, recursive novels of Austrian giant Thomas Bernhard, but Bernhard without bitterness, rancor or disdain for the modern world. That’s a pretty neat trick. The brief volume circles around a failed romance and the author’s sometimes absurd efforts to “get past” the heartbreak. It sounds flossy but the text explores questions involving fate, mythology and more. I’ve read this book several times in the years since I discovered it and enjoyed it on every reading. (Not on the NYT list.)
No. 1. 2666 by Roberto Bolaño
A magisterial, massive novel composed of five distinct sub-novels, the separate threads sometimes only tangentially related to each other, each written in a distinct voice in a distinct style, the stories spreading and spreading like a massive river delta. The individual sections range from playful to pitch black. One section was so horrifyingly violent that I had to put the book away for months before resuming it to finish. (No. 6 on the NYT list.)
Here are five titles that I sorely would have liked to squeeze into my top ten:
My Struggle: Book One, A Death in the Family by Karl Ove Knausgaard
The first of Knausgaard’s huge, multivolume autofiction. Along with Rachel Cusk’s “Outline,” this is pretty much the avatar of this type of writing. (Not on the NYT list, to my amazement, considering that this was probably the most talked about title of the last 20 years.)
The Making of Zombie Wars by Aleksandr Hemon
A very funny, mostly gossamer light comic novel that manages to stir in a tragic subplot involving unhappy refugees from the disintegrating nation-states of the former Yugoslavia. (Not on the NYT list.)
Ducks, Newburyport by Lucy Ellmann
A giant, funny, sad stream of consciousness about life in the Trump years in midwestern America. (Not on the NYT list. WTF??)
The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson
A big, boiling adventure set in a nightmarish, incredibly well-imagined North Korea, (Not on the NYT list.)
Yoga by Emmanuel Carrère
An embellished piece of autofiction that sounds dreadful and self-serving in the describing of it but that manages to be powerful and engrossing in the actual telling. (Not on the NYT list.)
--------------
What follows is the full list of 100, in alphabetical order. Is an alphabetical listing a copout??? Yes. I feel like I really should go in a force rank them all, but I've spent enough time on this florilegia already.

Understanding the Power of Persuasion in Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is like being a persuasive storyteller in the digital age. To succeed, you need to master the art of persuasion. Let’s delve into the world of affiliate marketing and explore strategies that can maximize your conversion rates.
Setting the Stage for High Conversions
Before we dive into strategies, let’s set the stage. Affiliate marketing involves promoting products or services and earning commissions for successful sales or actions. The key lies in persuading your audience to take the desired action. High conversions translate into higher earnings.
1. Know Your Audience
Targeting the Right Demographics
To persuade effectively, you must know your audience like the back of your hand. Start by understanding their demographics, such as age, gender, location, and interests. This knowledge helps tailor your content and promotions to their specific needs and preferences.
Creating Personas for Precision
Go a step further and create detailed buyer personas. These are semi-fictional representations of your ideal customers. Understand their pain points, desires, and motivations. Personas ensure your marketing efforts resonate on a personal level, increasing conversion rates.
2. Compelling Content Creation
Crafting Captivating Blog Posts
Blogs remain a powerful tool in affiliate marketing. Write engaging, informative, and well-researched blog posts. Use bullet points and subheadings to break up content, making it easy to skim. Share your personal experiences and include persuasive calls to action (CTAs).
The Magic of Video Content
Videos are captivating. Create product reviews, how-to guides, or unboxing videos to showcase the benefits of the products you’re promoting. Ensure your video titles and descriptions are SEO-friendly and include affiliate links for easy access.
Visual Appeal: The Importance of Images
A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Use high-quality, relevant images that complement your content. Images can help users visualize the product, increasing the chances of conversion.
Mastering the Art of Storytelling
Humans love stories. We’re naturally drawn to narratives. Incorporate storytelling into your content, sharing anecdotes, and relating them to the products you’re promoting. This emotional connection can be a potent persuader.

3. Effective SEO Techniques
Keywords: The Backbone of SEO
Keywords are the foundation of search engine optimization (SEO). Research and incorporate relevant keywords into your content, but avoid overstuffing. Use tools like Google’s Keyword Planner to identify high-converting keywords.
On-Page Optimization
Optimize your content for search engines by utilizing on-page techniques. This includes meta titles, descriptions, headings, and alt tags for images. Properly formatted content is more likely to rank higher.
Link Building Strategies
Link building is essential for SEO. Seek quality backlinks from reputable websites to boost your credibility. Write guest posts or collaborate with influencers in your niche for link-building opportunities.
Mobile Optimization: A Must in 2023
The majority of internet users browse on mobile devices. Ensure your website and content are mobile-friendly. Google prioritizes mobile-optimized sites in search rankings, so don’t overlook this critical aspect.
4. The Power of Social Media
Leveraging Social Platforms
Social media platforms are goldmines for affiliate marketers. Choose the right platforms for your audience and engage consistently. Share your content and interact with your followers to build trust and credibility.
Engaging Your Audience
Keep your audience engaged by asking questions, conducting polls, and sharing user-generated content. Engaged followers are more likely to act on your recommendations.
Analyzing Metrics for Success
Use social media analytics tools to track the performance of your posts and campaigns. Identify what’s working and what’s not, then adjust your strategy accordingly for better results.
Social Ads: Boosting Conversions
Consider using paid social ads to expand your reach. Platforms like Facebook and Instagram offer advanced targeting options, allowing you to reach your ideal audience directly.
5. Email Marketing Mastery
Building an Email List
Email marketing is a direct channel to your audience. Build an email list by offering valuable content and incentives. Pop-ups, lead magnets, and subscriptions can help grow your list.
Crafting Persuasive Emails
Write compelling email content that speaks to your audience’s pain points and offers solutions. Use persuasive language and clear CTAs to drive conversions.
A/B Testing for Optimization
A/B testing allows you to experiment with different elements in your emails, such as subject lines, content, and visuals. Analyze the results to optimize your email campaigns for maximum impact.
Automation: The Ultimate Time-Saver
Implement email marketing automation to send targeted messages at the right time. This frees up your time and ensures your audience receives relevant content.
6. Affiliate Marketing Tools
Finding the Right Affiliate Programs
Choose affiliate programs that align with your niche and resonate with your audience. Look for programs that offer competitive commissions, quality products, and excellent support.
Essential Affiliate Marketing Tools
Utilize affiliate marketing tools like tracking software, link cloakers, and analytics platforms to streamline your efforts and monitor your performance.
Tracking and Analytics
Monitor the performance of your affiliate links and campaigns. Analytics provide insights into which products are converting best and where your efforts should be focused.
Staying Ahead with Innovations
The digital landscape is ever-evolving. Stay updated on new tools and technologies in affiliate marketing to remain competitive in your niche.

7. Affiliate Marketing Ethics
Ethics are the guiding principles that ensure a fair and transparent relationship between affiliates, merchants, and consumers. Ethical affiliate marketers prioritize promoting products or services that genuinely benefit their audience, disclose affiliate relationships, and avoid misleading or deceptive practices. By upholding these ethical standards, marketers build trust and credibility, fostering long-term success.
8. Measuring and Adapting for Success
Measuring success in affiliate marketing involves tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as click-through rates, conversion rates, and revenue generated. By analyzing these metrics, affiliate marketers can adapt their strategies, optimizing what works and refining what doesn’t. This data-driven approach ensures continuous improvement and increased affiliate marketing success over time.
Conclusion
As we conclude this enlightening journey into the world of persuasive affiliate marketing, remember that success in this field hinges on your ability to influence, engage, and convert. These strategies, from understanding your audience intimately to harnessing the power of SEO, social media, and email marketing, are in your arsenal. In the competitive landscape of affiliate marketing, it’s not just about making sales; it’s about forging lasting connections. Embrace the art of persuasion, and you’ll find yourself not only maximising conversions but also creating a loyal, devoted audience. Your path to affiliate marketing excellence begins here.

ENGLISH INTEGRATED PROJECT
KEY WORDS - DEFINITIONS
Story: a description, either true or imagined, of a connected series of events.
Tale: a story, especially one that might be invented or difficult to believe.
Science Fiction: books, films, or cartoons about an imagined future, especially about space travel or other planets.
LITERATURE
Enjoying the long-awaited 2065 Christmas with my dear wife Olivia, my nephew Santiago 7 years old who I take after, and our best friends Alejandra and Camilo. In the capital of Jupiter where I currently reside. It has been 5 years since one of the most historical events on the planet Earth... Later, at some precise moment, the classic curiosity of the children came out, with a specific question.
Santiago: What is the history of Aquarenaissance uncle?
I am so glad that you asked, and here goes the story Santiago.
During the year 2049 on Earth, the water shortage was no longer a surprise, it was chaos. Of course, we came across the news and came up with a mission to combat the problem with Olivia, Alejandra, and Camilo, to create an organization to create multiple solutions and travel to the past. Seems like a good plan but on the other hand it was a very difficult, costly, and dangerous job, but thanks to the financing of the humans of Jupiter, the organization, we were able to start on the right foot and track down the problem. The lack of importance given by humans to the possible water crisis was disappointing.
Therefore, our star action would be to pay all the news programs in the world to talk about the issue weekly as a part of their transmission.
President of the Organization: Dear colleagues, the decision you have been all waiting for, the organization has decided that Camilo and Reyes are gonna be the travelers of the mission and perform the time travel.
Reyes to Santiago: We were shocked, at this point we knew that it was a real deal.
We entered the time capsule and introduced the year 2019, the planet had 30 years to reflect. Immediately when we arrived, we started working like crazy people moving in every way you could imagine, after that we almost gave up but we did bring up our discipline to keep up the mission.
To end up, because of all the work, the task turned out awesome and we fix up the problem. The planet in the first 5 of the 30 years had already done more consciousness than 45% of its entire history. As a result, when the year 2049 arrived, it was a different mentality. We were able to save the crisis and the universe nicknamed it "Aquarenaissance".
Santiago: THAT’S AWESOME!!! I'm so proud of having an uncle like you.

Titus was annoyed. Annoyed with this whole situation, with the rattle of the airships, with the buzzing under his skin pushing him to do something. Fight. Unfortunately, he hadn't found a good opening just yet. In which Titus gets to learn a bit more about who organized the "rescue" and what they want. Poor little meow meow and eeby deeby for FFXV for the ask meme?
*squints* You’re fishing for a specific answer here, I can feel it.
Eeby Deeby: Once this would have been Drautos, but having to write him so much has reluctantly made me slightly more sympathetic to him and move him out of this category. I’ll go with Verstael Besithia instead. Man chose evil scientist as his personality and went all in. Each one of those clones deserve to get their satisfaction from him, and all the citizens of Niflheim that fell to the “vanishing disease” and all the citizens of Lucis to MTs. And probably more.
Poor Little Meow Meow: Drautos has not quite earned this spot yet either, despite your hopes. :P He is in limbo. This one was much harder; I’m not as familiar with the whole cast as I should be. Maybe the astrals? I like pondering blue/orange morality, and where they might have come from, I guess. But I don’t care enough to write about them specifically yet. Let’s go with the Lucii. Yes, they are assholes, and cause a hell of a lot of collateral damage, but it’s interesting to think about how much they are slaves of destiny as well, a destiny they knew they wouldn’t live to see, and what it must be like to be stuck inside the ring/statues of the old wall for so long. They can be my “faves” in that I‘d probably enjoy writing about them, even if I think they need some perspective. (And maybe freedom)

My #1 post of 2022
Favorite Character from 10 Fandoms
I was tagged by @shieldmaidenofsherwood and @exlibrisfangirl. Thanks for thinking of me! No thanks for making me make decisions. :(
Rules: List your favorite character from 10 different fandoms and then tag 10 people.
Rather than try to actually chose, I'm just going to do the last 10 characters I used their tag to find fic for on Ao3, from most recent to least.
Nyx Ulric from Kingsglaive/Final Fantasy XV. RIP to your feeds; this man has captured my attention for almost a full year now. Wow. He is trying so hard to save his friends in spite of everything, but also isn't afraid to chew people out who need to hear it. There are so many blanks to fill in, too.
Elrond Peredhil from the Hobbit/LotR/Silmarillion. A very old, but enduring fave from back when my dad read the Hobbit to me when I was eight or so and started my love for Tolkien. He was wise and smart and helpful, and gave people shelter. Instant fave. Nice to see him getting some more love lately!
Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan from the Vorkosigan Saga. All you people here on tumblr made me decide to start the series and I adored her and her husband and so was very disappointed to see less of them as the series shifted to their son, not that he isn't fantastic! But I've always had a weakness for the previous generation, so this is nothing new.
Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, my original blorbo, as the children say. I got introduced to Star Wars when I was six and it has been an obsession ever since. What can I say, I am basic and weak for main characters. I was heavy into the EU and so I started to draw away when Episode II came out and I could see it killing itself trying to cope with contradictions, but Luke, with such a burden always trying will always be a favorite. 4b. Mara Jade also has gotten a character tag search, but she is in the same fandom so she doesn't get her own number. But don't neglect her!
Jason Todd from Batman comics. I fell sideways into this fandom through an old mutual who loved him, and since that's how I came into the fandom I have stuck with him. I tend to latch onto a character and stay loyal, so here I am, through some very bizarre characterization and storyline choices, having learned from this man and fandom how to pick and chose fanon and canon very harshly. Definitely a character that when written well is very very good, and when written badly (or how I don't like) is horrid. 5b. This is basically a (hopefully more mature) carbon copy of how I got into BtVS through a friend obsessed with Spike.
Clark Kent from Superman comics/shows (yes this counts as separate fandoms). Another oldie. My grandparents had the 1940s cartoons as some of the few brother-approved VHS tapes they had, so I watched a lot of it, and then STAS came out and I was hooked. What can I say, I love characters who always try so hard to be the best they can be, and the reminder that even the Man of Tomorrow, for all his powers, can't do everything.
Meliara Astiar and Vidanric Renselaus from Crown & Court Duel by Sherwood Smith. Yes, both of them, shut up. I got on a nostalgia kick and they have a few excellent fics on Ao3. Ultimate culture clash, all the tropes and they make it work.
Trafalgar Law from One Piece. (No, I am not caught up and will not be until Wano is done.) He...he also tries so hard but in a different way. He tries to be serious in Luffy's world and it never works and it's great. Trash man trying to be creepy and trying so hard. And he's genuinely badass, he just cares too much and it cracks me up. And then his backstory breaks my heart.
Eve Baird from The Librarians (tv show). Mama Baird knows what she wants and knows her skills and is doing all she can to protect her idiot Librarian and equally chaotic LITs, but isn't afraid to admit when she needs to learn from them as well.
Alberich from Valdemar by Mercedes Lackey. Another nostalgia lookup, with even less fic. I like mentors, okay? I like older people learning and teaching and I always have, even when I was young. I actually haven't read much of this series, but I got his two books and enjoyed them, and didn't do much with the rest.
I'm going to chose to interpret the lack of women on this list as a critique of the books I read and not solely of me myself. But it's a good trend to see as I try to figure out what to procrastinate by reading next. (as is the appalling lack of explicit POC. Ouch.)
Again, these are the most recent character tag searches I've done on Ao3, not my top 10 characters, because this took less decisions, honestly.
Absolutely no-pressure tagging of @garbria, @whumpwriterforlife, @starjunco, @sanzochan, @whostarlockeda03, @noirbriar, @newlyorange, and @maychorian, along with anyone else who wants to go. I would love to get more character reccs, honestly. It's gotten me started on two series that I've enjoyed but haven't gotten far enough in to seek out fic yet for risk of spoilers. ^_^

what now? idk
TBH, I don’t really know what to do with this blog now that The 100 is over. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it’s over, but I feel like just posting kitties and cool photo posts isn’t a good use of this spot.
I really liked answering asks about the show and other stuff, and I kind of miss that, but not having the community makes it harder... even though I was unhappy with fandom for the last couple of years.
What should I put on this blog? What would you guys like to see, if there’s still anyone out there?
Let me tell you a bit of what I’m doing outside of tumblr or fandom or scifi.
Professionally, I’m ghostwriting contemporary romances. I’ve written about about 18 so far, in a couple of years. It’s hard work, it doesn’t pay real well. I can’t really suggest to other people, but it just manages to keep my head above water and I get to stay home and take care of myself and homeschool and write and be creative.
Reading wise, I’m leaning hard into the historical romances, and have been ever since I started ghostwriting. IDK why. I read one and write the other.
Writing wise, I am not getting very far on my science fiction books that I’m writing, nor am I getting far on querying for an agent for my finished novels. I’ve got Moonshine, which is based on a bellarke fic I wrote quite a few years ago, and then they’re Girl Of Freaks, which is a contemporary fantasy inspired by how annoyed twilight made me. Like. That’s not what vampires would be. Ugh. Whatever. That’s two finished novels I have that are ready for publication and me, having problems with querying and publication and staying on task. (sometimes I wonder if I too am ADHD after researching for my son’s ADHD. I have been doing a little poetry, too, although that kind of slowed down in the pandemic. It seems to be picking up now that we have a decent not terrifying president. I think I was too anxious to get my thoughts together to write poetry, which was disappointing because I was really getting into poetry.
I am ALSO homeschooling my two teens. One of whom is on the autism spectrum and has ADHD, etc, and one of whom wants to raise chickens. They’re 14 and 15. He’s older. We’re reading greek mythology write now and writing essays. He writes about philosophy and psychology, and she writes persuasive essays about how we should have Disney+ and have chickens.
That goes along with the gardening we’re doing. It’s a school project, but we’re also gardening for fun and health. so. We’re trying blueberries and green beans and spinach and herbs and tomatoes and ginger.
Then I’m getting back into art, too. I took on a challenge on instagram to do 100 days of creativity. I don’t really know WHAT I’m going to do, but it’s essentially 100 days of art journaling as I rediscover what the hell I have to say as an artist. I’ve been doing so much writing that is where my energy goes.
I am also working on an e-course about Writer’s Block. It’s specifically for writers, because I’ll be showing some writing hints, but a lot of it goes for general creativity. My main thesis is that writer’s block shouldn’t terrify us, but really if we pay attention and listen to what’s stopping us, we can actually learn about our own writing process and become better and happier writers. It’s turned out to be MUCH larger than I thought, a whole book, I suppose, rather than one e course, so I’ve broken it down into four courses, and I’m doing the first one on Overwhelm, which is self explanatory. The other three are; Fear (the internal demons that stop you,) The Narrative Itself (because your subconscious knows there’s a problem with the story itself,) and Not A Block, But a Fallow Period (in which you listen to yourself and DON’T write for a while.)
I suppose I’m also doing the health thing. I have hashimotos, which is basically why I was so sick for most of my time here and could barely get out of bed. Because of that, I’m eating gluten free and mostly natural, although ice cream and dark chocolate doesn’t seem to do any harm to me. So that means I’m also doing a lot of cooking, because processed food always seems to make me sick. Fun. On top of that I’m doing some easy going Yin yoga, or restorative IDK exactly what kind it is, but it’s mainly to manage pain and stay flexible after writing all day in a chair.
So why post this?
Because I guess I want to know if I should be posting stuff from my real life? Before, almost everything I posted was a response to an ask that someone sent me, so my entire blog was reader driven. Now I don’t really have that anymore, so it’s hard to know what anyone wants to hear, especially since I’m not doing that deep dive analysis into fandom or really any content. Any analysis I do is going to be impressions, or initial thoughts, not a dissertation like before. (It’s healthier for me that way.)
So the question is, what do y’all want to hear about? Posts on homeschooling? Why? Most of you aren’t doing that? Do you want to talk to me about the historical romance books I’m reading? I could do that, but they can blur together, especially at the speed I read them. And because I reread the ones I really like a lot. I can’t really tell you about the books I’m ghostwriting since I signed a contract not to blab. They’re fun, I think. But you know.
I could post my art work, idk. Not all of it is good. A lot of it is just about discovery. I could post poetry. I still haven’t figured out how to format poetry on this weird website. IDK maybe screenshots. I could post what’s happening in the garden. I could write about my ecourse and about writer’s block. Which I don’t have, obviously, since I am writing 3k words a day ghostwriting-- except I DO have it, every day. But I’ve managed coping strategies to work with it. I’m actually using it to deal with my struggles doing the e course. Listen this is how I get words on the page.
I mean I post a lot of this stuff already on instagram instagram https://www.instagram.com/rowenamurillo/ and on twitter https://twitter.com/rosymamacita1 I’m mostly doing writer twitter, some romancelandia, some politics and feminism a touch of tv and movies.
#wow that's a lot of words about me#did you know i don't really like to write about me? anyway#what is tumblr without fandom anyway?

Hi :) I... really wanna read a fanfic or two but I can't find one I vibe with xD So... do you know one that's not too long (around 100k words maybe), has hurt and comfort, smut (am I allowed to ask about that?? Ahhhh) and a happy ending? Top!lock would be a bonus but it's not necessary. And if it's a nice AU (like... any kind but no crossovers pls), it would be perfect! :D By the way, I found your blog only a few hours ago and I already feel really comfy and Idk, kinda at home here ^-^
Hi Nonny!!!
Welcome to my corner of the Tumblrsphere!!! I’m so happy you’ve found me, LOL, because I love all my followers and friends! <3
First of all, I think it’s super cute that “not too long” to you is “around 100K” LOL LOL LOL!!! <3 That said, I’d argue all my fic recs are fabulous, LOL. But again, I’m stupidly proud of the wonderful lists I’ve accumulated, because it satisfies my organization kink LOL. And yes, you’re ALWAYS allowed to ask for smut here LOL.
ANYWAY, so I’m gonna use this ask as an excuse to post up a long-overdue part two to my 50 to 100K fic list! But first, here’s some past lists for the genres you’re looking for:

As the conference unfolds, John finds himself repulsed by the toxic ideology being presented, which becomes relevent to his own unacknowledged issues and his friendship with Sherlock...
Repairing the Broken Things by BakerTumblings (M, 75,252 w., 15 Ch. || S4 Compliant, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Medical Trauma, Hospitals, Big Brother Mycroft, Misunderstandings, Realizations, Severe Accident, John Whump, Pneumonia, Medical Procedures, Bed Sharing, First Time, Healing, Happy Ending) – "I'm calling today to notify you that there's been an accident."

This fic picks up a few months after John and Mary's wedding, in an alternate universe where Magnussen doesn't exist, but Mary is still pregnant. Life continues -- just in a different direction. And slowly, Sherlock and John find their way to each other.
Never Change a Running System by Lorelei_Lee (E, 54,246 w. || Pre-TRF, Romance, Humour, Drama, Sex Toys, Anal, Rimming, Masturbation, Frottage, Blow Jobs, Public Sex, First Kiss / Time, Virgin Sherlock / Loss of Virginity, Accidental Voyeurism, Unresolved Sexual Tension, Experiments, Naive Sherlock, Pining Sherlock, Jealous Sherlock, Possessive Sherlock, Straight With an Exception John, Hand Jobs) – Sherlock discovers his sexuality – with far-reaching consequences for John.
A Hundred Crimson Sols by elldotsee (E, 55,536 w. || Astronauts AU || Mars Exploration / Space Travel, Slow Burn, Shy Sherlock, Scientist Sherlock / Biomed Engineer John, Alternating POV, Mutual Pining, UST, Angst with Happy Ending, Domestic Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Injuries, Suicidal Ideation, Zero-G Sex) – Will Holmes is a chemical researcher recognized widely for his contributions to the new Mars exploration program. Thanks to his ground-breaking developments, the IMMC (International Mars Mission Corporation) is one step closer to Martian colonization. Will and his team of scientists are headed out on the first of three manned missions before the first group of settlers arrive. Three days before launch, one of the crew has to be replaced. Will panics because...new people. The replacement is of course one John Watson, biomedical engineer and space hottie who was pretty sure he had retired from actual space exploration and was now content to work in the nice, quiet research lab. Can the crew survive this TOTALLY ROUTINE trip? Will they be able to endure each other for the looooooong trip in close quarters? Gonna be a wild ride... prepare for blast off. Part 1 of the SpaceBois go to Space series
The Thing Is by TSylvestris (E, 56,743 w. || Case Fic, Dev. Rel., Anal/Oral, Blow Jobs, Meddling Mycroft, Drama, Romance, Humour, Casual Encounters, Pining Idiots, Possessive Sherlock, Orgasm Delay, Rough / Alley Sex, Public Sex, John Whump, Drugged John, Emotional Love Making, Awkward Relationship, Marriage of Convenience, Switchlock) – The problem with living with Sherlock, John thought, was that you never, never, ever knew the significance of anything. Like your flatmate's nose buried in your hair. Whilst you're in bed. Part 1 of Nitroglycerine
One Little Change by jadztone (E, 58,312 w. || ASiB Divergence, Fake Relationship, Bed Sharing, Mutual Pining, Friends to Lovers, First Kiss / Time, Anal Sex, Blow Jobs, Bi John / Gay Demisexual Sherlock, Switchlock, Alternating POV, Jealousy, Misunderstandings, Case Fic, Angst with Happy Ending, Emotional Love Making, Butt Plugs, Cuddles) – Our story begins right after John and Sherlock's first meeting with Irene Adler in September. It splits off into an AU that imagines them taking a case where they act as bait to hook a killer targeting closeted gays in secret relationships. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, many things happen that have our boys wondering if maybe they have a chance with each other. Then Irene fakes her death on Christmas Eve, and things get a lot more complicated - especially since they still have a killer to catch.
floating through a dark blue sky by Lediona (M, 58,966 w. || Notting Hilll AU || POV John, Celebrity Sherlock, First Date / Time / Kiss, Past Drug Addiction, Angst with a Happy Ending) – Of course, I’d seen his films and always thought he was, well, brilliant -- but, you know, a million miles from the world I live in. Or, when John is the owner of a travel book shop and the famous Sherlock Holmes stops in one day.
The Burning by SrebrnaFH (M, 60,658 w. || Reverse Reichenbach, Suicide, Depression, Hurt Sherlock / John, Separation, BAMF John, Good Big Brother Mycroft, Angst, Implied/Referenced Torture, Fake Character Death, Rescue Mission, Reconciliation / Reunion, Hospitalization, Marriage Proposal, Illnesses, Physical Therapy, Happily Ever After) – Something went very, very wrong. John had seemed, if not happy, then reasonably content with his life. Sherlock had never predicted something like THIS might have happened. Not in his worst nightmares. He was the lousiest friend ever, apparently. At least Mycroft found him something to occupy his mind with, so that he didn't have to go back to 221B and stare at the walls and the chair, where John Watson would never sit again.
This Thing All Things Devours by cypress_tree (E, 63,844 w., 15 Ch. || In Time AU || Science Fiction, Dystopian Universe, First Meetings, Action / Adventure, Romance) – In 2169, time is money—literally. Humans are genetically engineered to stop aging at 25, when the numbers on their arm start counting down from one year. When that time is up, they die. The only way to get more time is to earn it, borrow it, or steal it.John Watson lives day-to-day in the crowded slums of Zone 13. He never imagined living any differently—until he meets the practically-immortal Sherlock, and helps him on a case to track a local time-thief...
The Bells of King's College by SilentAuror (E, 64,019 w., 5 Ch. || Post-S4, Missed Opportunities, Angst with Happy Ending, Fake Relationship, Case Fic, John POV, Jealous John, John in Denial, Travelling / Holidays, Virgin Sherlock, Wedding Proposals) – It's only been two weeks since Eurus Holmes disrupted their lives when Mycroft sends John and Sherlock to Cambridge to pose as an engaged couple at a wedding show in the hopes of solving six unsolved deaths...
Hell Sent, Heaven Bound by ConsultingHound (M, 64,381 w, 16 Ch. || Angels / Demons AU || Fallen Angel Sherlock / Angel Cop John, Alternate First Meeting, Slow Burn, Case Fic, John & Lestrade are Friends Before Sherlock, BAMF John, Mind Palace John, Friends to Lovers, John in Denial, Sherlock Picks Out John’s Clothing, Clubbing / Dancing, Mildly Jealous John, Awkwardness, Kidnapping, Sherlock’s Mind Palace, Sacrifice, Worried / Anxious Sherlock, Angst with Happy Ending, Immortal to Mortal) – Ex-War healer and current angelic guard John Watson is not having the best day. He overslept, he’s underpaid, and now there’s someone tagging the Council’s building walls. However things may be about to get interesting: there’s an unusual stranger hanging around (the definition of tall, dark, and handsome), a literal underground cult is brewing, and rumblings are coming from hell. Can he keep his neighbourhood safe, how and why is he being connected to all this, and who the hell is Sherlock Holmes?
White Knight by DiscordantWords (M, 69,840 w., 13 Ch. || S4 Compliant/Post S4, Marriage For a Case, Jealous John, Pining John, Janine / Sherlock Fake Relationship, Serial Killers, Case Fic, Undercover as a Couple, Weddings, John is a Mess, Misunderstandings, Wedding Planning, Jealousy, Drunkenness, Love Confessions, Angst with Happy Ending) – Green. The word green was used to convey a great many things. Illness. Envy. Inexperience. Standing there amidst Janine's chattering bridesmaids, watching Sherlock furrow his brow and study fabric swatches, watching him smile and simper and flirt, John thought it a remarkably apt colour choice. Because he felt quite sick to his stomach, he feared the source of said sickness might very well be jealousy, and he had absolutely no idea at all what to do about it. Or: Sherlock needs to fake a relationship for a case. He doesn't ask John.
Being John Watson-ish by elwinglyre (E, 69,902 w., 17 Ch. || Bodysnatcher AU || Author John, Cranky Sherlock, Angst, Sexual Tension, First Kiss / Time, Falling in Love, BAMF John, Past Soldier John, Feelings, Inside Someone’s Brain, Shy Sherlock, Sherlock Loves John, POV Sherlock, Switchlock, Slow Burn, Internal Dialogue, Mental Turmoil) – When consulting detective Sherlock Holmes steps on one toe too many at a crime scene, he's consigned to a desk job in an archaic office on the seventh-and-a-half floor of the New Scotland Yard. It’s in this bleak office that Sherlock discovers a portal into the mind of renowned author John Watson. Grander than his mind palace, this new wonderland affords Sherlock new vistas of experimentation. To learn more about the mystery behind the portal, Sherlock seeks out and befriends Watson. But then it all goes wrong when others find the secret portal door—including the man whose brain he visits.
Just To Hold You Close by sussexbound (E, 70,841 w., 18 Ch. || Alternate First Meeting, Sherlock POV, ASD Sherlock, PTSD John, Demisexual Sherlock, Bisexual John, Cuddling/Snuggling, Platonic Cuddling, Enthusiastic Consent, Bed Sharing, Love Confessions, First Kiss/Time, Sexual Tension, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Cuddle Negotiations, For a Case Until It Isn’t, Hair Petting, Sexual Negotiation, Anxiety, Trust Issues, Slow Burn, Panic Attacks, Frottage, Hand/Blow Jobs, Referenced Self Harm / Abuse / Suicidal Ideation, First Kiss/Time, Anal) – When a woman is murdered and the last person to see her alive is recently invalided army vet turned reluctant (and prickly) professional cuddler, John Watson, Sherlock Holmes is pulled into a world of intimacy and intrigue he never could have imagined. John is a conundrum and mystery: frank yet reserved, tender yet angry, open yet afraid. Sherlock is instantly drawn into his orbit, and begins to feel and desire things he never has before.
The Vapor Variant by 88thParallel (M, 72,684 w., 18 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Post-THoB, John Whump, Protective Sherlock, Guilty Sherlock, Anxious/Worried Sherlock, Virgin Sherlock, Angst with Happy Ending, Hurt/Comfort, PTSD John, Slow Burn, Mutual Pining, Suspense, Virus, Sickfic, Big Brother Mycroft) – They stood face to face in the middle of a clearing. The dim light of the moon barely allowed Sherlock to see the glassy terror in John’s eyes and the sweat that glistened off his forehead. His nose was bleeding again, blood dripping in a slow stream from his right nostril. They were both gasping for air, John’s eyes locked on Sherlock’s. There was no recognition there, just wild animal fear. Time stood still for an eternal few seconds, and Sherlock took a shaky breath. “John—”Spell broken, John spun and bolted back into the woods. Still heaving for air, Sherlock took off after him.
Summit Fever by J_Baillier (M, 78,802 w., 18 Ch. || Mountain Climber AU || POV John, Angst, Tragedy, Suicidal Ideation, The Himalayas, Mountain Guide / Doctor John, Mount Climber Sherlock, Loneliness, Drama, Suspense, Slow Burn, Injured Sherlock / Sherlock Whump, Pining John) – After graduating from medical school, John Watson followed his heart to the Himalayas. Ten years later, he's a haunted cynic working for his ex-lover's trekking and mountaineering company. Will leading an expedition to Annapurna I—the most lethal of all the world's highest mountains—shake John out of his reverie, and who is the mystery client added to the group at the last minute?
The Monument of Memory by J_Baillier (M, 79,663 w., 14 Ch. || Post S4 Fix It Fic / S4 is Canon, Angst, Family Drama, Guilt, Case Fic, John Loves Sherlock, Complicated Feelings, Mentalism / Hypnosis, Murder, Grieving John, Sherlock is a Bit Not Good, Team Work, Trust Issues, BAMF John, Psychological Trauma, Protective John, Autistic-Spectrum Sherlock, Parentlock, John POV) – A genius traumatised by a past he's only beginning to recall. The psychopath sister that time forgot. A missing woman and a mentalist who may or may not be a murderer. And, in the middle of it all, stands John Watson.
Thermocline by J_Baillier (M, 83,557 w., 14 Ch. || Scuba Diving AU || Adventure, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Marine Archaeology, Asexual Sherlock, Horny John, Relationship Drama, Technical/Scuba/Wreck Diving, Slow Burn, Underwater / Medical Peril, Doctor John, Hurt Sherlock, Anxious Sherlock, John POV, Protective John, Body Appreciation) – John "Five Oceans" Watson — technical dive instructor, dive accident analyst and weapon of mass seduction — meets recluse professor of maritime archaeology Holmes. As they head out to a remote archipelago off the coast of Guatemala to study and film its shipwrecks for a documentary, will sparks fly or fizzle out?
The Summer Boy by khorazir (T, 94,706 w., 6 Ch. || Post S3/Post TAB/Alternate S4, Friends to Lovers, Flashbacks, Sussex, Bullying, 1980′s Kid Sherlock, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Inexperienced Sherlock, Grief/Mourning, Pining Sherlock, Background Case Fic) – About half a year after the fateful events at Appledore, Sherlock and John embark on a private case in Sussex. For Sherlock, it’s a journey into his past, bringing up memories both happy and sad that he has locked away for almost thirty years. For John, it means coming to terms with the present – and a potential future with Sherlock. Part 1 of the The Summer Boy series
Northwest Passage by Kryptaria (E, 95,157 w., 27 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Canadian AU || BAMF!John, Canadian John, PTSD, Anal / Oral Sex, Rimming, Emotional Hurt / Comfort, Drug Rehab, Falling in Love, Pining Sherlock, Love Confessions, Sherlock’s Violin, Panic Attacks, Switching, Anxious / Protective Sherlock, Hugs for Comfort, Suicide Mentions, Healing Each Other) – Seven years ago, Captain John Watson of the Canadian Forces Medical Service withdrew from society, seeking a simple, isolated life in the distant northern wilderness of Canada. Though he survives from one day to the next, he doesn't truly live until someone from his dark past calls in a favor and turns his world upside-down with the introduction of Sherlock Holmes." Part 1 of Tales from the Northwest

Thanks for doing that because this has been buttload of fun (that joke never gets old). All stories will be brief stand-alone one-shots.
The Baker Street Nativity by SwissMiss (E, 99,662 w., 23 Ch. || Nativity! AU || Teacher Sherlock / TA John, Pining, Sherlock POV, UST, Angst, Christmas, Music/Song Fic, Anal / BJ’s, First Kiss / Time) – Fusion between Sherlock (BBC) and Nativity! (2009 movie starring Martin Freeman). Sherlock is a primary school teacher and John is assigned to be his classroom assistant. Together, they are charged with putting on the school's Nativity play. What could possibly go wrong? Part 1 of The Baker Street Nativity Verse
Given In Evidence by verityburns (M, 97,884 w., 19 Ch. || PODFIC AVAILABLE || Post-TRF, Angst, Drama, Case Fic, Romance, BAMF!John, Submissive Sherlock, First Kiss, Humour) – Coming back from the dead can be a complicated business.
