ââNow the bass started in eighth or ninth grade; thatâs when I actually began playing. But the interest started earlier, because my cousin Charlie Biddle, heâd hold me and the bass â heâd have me standing on the chair, holding the bow, and heâd make the sound. Heâd say, âThis is the way it feels and this is the way it sounds and this is how you feel the vibrations.â And I said, âI want that to be my vocal chords, my voice; I want that to be my sound.â
ââAnd then in eighth grade, at first they gave me a tuba, because thatâs what was available. And finally they gave me the bass, my first bass. And Philly Joe Jones â thereâs another name â he was one of the guys who had some fun with me, because I had to carry the bass to school. You know, Philly Joe was a trolley car driver, and I ran into him a couple of times on my way to school, and he would laugh at me, carrying my bass.ââ
ââAt the YMCA for dances, and at the town hall and different cabarets where people used to have their birthday parties and different celebrations. And there were the Holmes brothers â one was a drummer and one was a guitar player â who used to hire us. And we used to go out to Willow Grove, which is where Bud and Richie Powell lived, and we would play gigs with the Holmes brothers, which was R&B. So we had all kinds of situations, musical situations.ââ
Workman poursuivait:
ââMcCoy and I had a trio with Eddie Campbell, who was a drummer; he died young. And we worked at the House of Jazz in Philadelphia and we were the house trio and the club would bring in names {...}. And one of the names they brought in was Coltrane, because McCoy was there and McCoy and John Coltrane were good friends. So the club owner told him, âCall John.â And thatâs where I got to hear â and not just hear, but experience â how great he was. That was back, I guess, in the â50s, the late â50s.ââ
Workman poursuivait:
Workman enseigne Ă la New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music de New York depuis 1987.
ââAnd working with young people, I find there are many young people in the school who have tremendous ability to play their instruments and learn all the theory, but they havenât made their own sound. And so I try and help them to discover what that is â so they can feel that this is me, this is the sound I want, this is what I want to develop in my musical career. Somehow they donât think about their personal input to what theyâre doing. They donât realize that they have their own sound, their own thing to give.ââ
En 1998, Workman avait fondé la Montclair Academy of Dance & Laboratory of Music (MADLOM), une organisation à but non lucratif devant servir de laboratoire aux jeunes ùgés de trois à dix-huit ans.
Saluant le travail de Workman comme enseignant, Francies avait dĂ©clarĂ©: ââReggie Workman was one of my biggest mentors at The New School... {he} provided valuable knowledge about the history of the music, but allowed me to be who I was. Most great teachers not only teach, but they also help you to find and articulate your individual choice.ââ  En 1993, Workman avait enregistrĂ© lâalbum Summit Conference avec Sam Rivers et Andrew Hill.
En 1998, Workman avait Ă©galement fondĂ© le African-American Legacy Project. Le projet, initialement crĂ©Ă© pour rendre hommage Ă John Coltrane, avait Ă©tĂ© Ă©largi progressivement pour inclure dâautres compositeurs afro-amĂ©ricains. Workman expliquait:
Workman avait acceptĂ© son prix en lisant la dĂ©claration suivante: "It is indeed a humbling and inspiring experience to be acknowledged and awarded by the NEA, one of our nation's most prestigious institutions, which has been known for years to be supportive of this nation's artists. I am glad to join the illustrious NEA alums as we collectively work toward the world's harmonious existence through music."
Reggie Workman réside à Montclair, au New Jersey.

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW
Tanton Dempsey is based on Tantor from Tarzan. He is a 27 year old shapeshifter, pool attendant, and uses he/him pronouns. He has the power of shifting. Tantor is portrayed by Justice Smith and he is open.
CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDNâT BE SURE
Tanton was not known for being brave. Ever since he was a child, he was plagued with fears, both rational and irrational. Whether it be germs, piranhas, strangers, crowded spaces or another various phobia (he seemed to pick up new ones daily) something always held him back. The best thing that ever happened to him -- though, really, traumatizing at the time -- was Taran and Terk crashing into his swimming hole and his life. Despite being bigger and stronger than most of the kids his age, he was too terrified to stop hiding behind his mother and introduce himself. Fortunately for him, those two didn't give him an option. They forced him out of his shell, and while he still struggled with anxiety, he had friends to help him through it... or sometimes make it worse with every new scheme they came up with. When the Porters and Clayton came around, Tanton was worried, he knew that humans could be trouble... but he trusted his best friend. Jane was nice, and surely anyone like Taran was okay. For once, unfortunately, it seemed he would have been better trusting his instincts. Everything was fine until it wasn't, and the next thing Tanton knew, Terk was dragging him off to find their runaway friend. It was all very anxiety inducing, but he was able to pull himself together for the people he loved more than his own well-being. Though his memories of recent events were wiped clean after crossing into city limits, and he was left confused as to why they'd come to Evermore in the first place. Stuck in a town he wasn't used to, surrounded by humans, Tanton tried to keep calm and got a job keeping up the local pool, and keep Terk in check the best he could. If he had to get by for the foreseeable future, at least he could be working with water instead of forced into customer service. He didn't think his poor heart could handle that.
I HAD A FEELING SO PECULIAR
â Dorotea Hernandez: She scares him, as most people do... but it's different. There's an energy about Tootie that Tanton just can't match, and when when he sees her coming he instantly worries about the conversation he's about to get stuck in. â Fraser Williams: Fraser has taught him a lot about fear, and even the name of some phobias he wasn't aware of. It's useful having someone around that doesn't judge him for the way he is, and actually understands it. â Nani Pelekai: He sees her by the pool every now and then, staring at the water with a lost look in her eyes. She looks kind enough he'd love to introduce himself, but he can't find the nerve.
THAT THIS PAIN WOULD BE FOR EVERMORE

Tooti, on the left, is wearing cuffed black jeans, a black zipped up jacket, and a dark cap over her short gray hair.Â
image four: a black and white photo of a group of young women in front of a building. Three of the women are standing, and one is sitting. They are all wearing white button down shirts and black ties, and two have dark jackets on as well. The three standing women are wearing black pants and are holding white mugs.Â
image five: a black and white photo of Frida Khalo, left, and a woman who might be Chavela Vargas. She has her hair tied up in a covered bun, and is wearing a long polka dot dress with zig zag patterns on the chest, shoulders, and wrists. Stella is standing at the same table, looking directly at the camera. Her hair is up and back, and she is wearing a long striped dress.

Random question, what do you think is the most iconic queer photo?
I love this question but it's so hard to pick an answer! But I love photos of queer people all throughout history just living their lives. Here's a selection:

Freddie Mercury and his partner Jim Hutton

US politician Harvey Milk (with the long hair) and his partner Scott Smith
French artist Rosa Bonheur (right) and her partner, Nathalie Micas

THEORY: Esther Blodgett is the daughter of Tootie Smith
Now this is a kind of out there theory. The idea came to me one day and I havenât seen anyone else come up with idea so I decided to make a post about it. This is just a theory so itâs fine if you donât like it.
Basically, I have a theory that Tootie Smith and Esther Blodgett are related.
Meet Me in St. Louis takes place in 1903. Tootie is 5 years old at the time, so she must have been born in 1898.
A Star is Born takes place in the 1950s and Esther is in her early 30s Iâm assuming(based on Judyâs actual age while filming) so she could have been born somewhere around 1922-1924.
By that time, Tootie would be 24-26 years old, a reasonable age to get married and have a child.
So letâs say she marries a guy with the last name Blodgett. Since this is The Olden Daysâą , she would most likely have taken her husbandâs last name, making her Tootie Blodgett.
And then she has a kid.
Itâs obvious that Tootie has a great relationship with her older sister Esther, so itâs not unlikely that she could have named her daughter after her. A lot of people are named after their relatives.
And they also look similar. They both have dark colored hair and brown eyes. It doesnât help that Esther Blodgett looks(and sings) a lot like her aunt(talent must run in the family)
I bet Esther Truitt would say to her niece âif you dyed your hair and grew it out I bet you would look like me when I was youngâ. (She would be old by then lol)
BUT WAIT! You say. âEsther Blodgett was born in a trunk at the Princess Theater in Idaho, not in St. Louis and her parents were in showbiz!â
Well I have 2 counterpoints:
Tootie could have decided to be in vaudeville, you never know.
Vaudeville is a traveling profession so itâs not a surprise that Tootie could have gave birth to Esther while on the road. After all, a trunk is in a car.
Anyway thatâs my theory. I hope you found it interesting.

I live in Portland and a group here recently analyzed the flight patterns of PPD's endless fucking loops above the nighttime sky after getting flight records via FOIA request, and surprise surprise, they fly the most over the parts of the city which have the most Black people in them.
This isn't just endless stochastic terrorism via noise and the emphasis that "we're watching you," mind - flying a diesel plane or helicopter at low altitudes for hours and hours isn't great for air quality, to put it mildly. It's environmental attacks.
When they recently took out a big camp on SE Powell, they made a big chunk of parking in that neighborhood completely unavailable to everybody, and blocked the sidewalk in ways that would be illegal if anyone else did it.
And of course fucking Gas Me Teddy and his buddy Tootie (yeah, really, the chair of the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners is named Tootie Smith, and whatever dessicated old NIMBY you're picturing, you're right) down in Clackamas keep fucking around rather than putting in meaningful housing options.
tbh something i never hear anyone talk about re: homelessness is the common practice of police charging regular bribes out of tent campers under the threat of small-scale sweeps
