“I’m maybe small but I like to aim big”
Tumblr media
Boris the little runt loves to aim big especially on his adventures with his pony pal kitty.
he’s about 5’5 and he loves to go hiking.
His sexuality is an asexual because he’s not interested in love but loves going on an adventure with his mom Rona and his pal kitty the miniature house horse.
He gives of a toboe (wolfs rain) vibe but he lives in a traditional country home with his sister darya.
He’s always up for a challenge.

joseph gordon-levitt called jim hawkins "just a very good-looking wasp of a boy that I will never be" and I've been thinking about that for two weeks
#even he was like “okay this was intentional”#and yes. every Jim Thing was SO intentional. I've read every scrap of material on the movie's creation and process I can get my eyeballs on#and I think one of the reasons I like Jim so much is that every single thing they did with him they were excited about#they were so passionate about it. they wanted to do things with his eyes and hands and expressions-#-that they said they hadn't tried yet because they wanted jim to be as real as they could get him to be#surrounded by all these not-so-real looking worlds and aliens#because his struggles were realistic and his season in life was so relatable in the story#they did model him off jimmy dean but they also modeled him off of joseph gordon-levitt and the poses and faces he'd make#JGL was SEVENTEEN when he voiced jim. he was not fully grown#jim was so “good-looking” as an animated character not just because of how he was drawn but because he himself is supposed to be so raw/rea#and that instinctively makes you like him more. plus. he IS drawn a specific way#and he IS cute don't get me wrong (he is a child)#but there's something about writing a character as true to life as you can#and trying to express something very real through that character that people can understand and care about#in order to make a true point#that sticks to people and influences them. and that's what happened with Jim#it's like Percy Jackson or Holden Caulfield#no I have never been claimed as a child of a Greek god and exploded a toilet#no I have never gotten expelled repeatedly or mugged in the 1950s#but I do know what it's like to want deep connections with people and despair of getting them#and I do know what it's like to wish I could get something right#Percy and Holden AND JIM all express those things at one point or another#they express other things too. they feel very REAL. so you listen to them and you connect with them#and just like with real people you look at them and they become more attractive to you (both literally and figuratively)-#-as you get to know them and understand them better#that's how you characterize#that's good writing#and in Jim's case good ANIMATING too#continually blown away by the massive amount of energy and thought and buckets and buckets of INTENTION that went into Treasure Planet#and it was not released at the proper time to get the attention it should've gotten

I'm ngl I mainly liked Barbie (2023) for the theatrical experience rather than the source material. I love pink, I loved the set design, I loved the costumes, I loved people going to the theater in theme with the movie and the overall joyful atmosphere.
As for the plot...idk. (I'm not getting into the commentary about feminism or the patriarchy as others did it better than I can.) I definitely didn't feel like the target audience considering I'm not a millennial (or better yet, a young parent) disconnected from whimsy with wistful nostalgia about their childhood. Mattel has been marketing towards that demographic for a while now, and it seems like they're not even attempting for my age or younger. Which is odd, to me, considering a lot of people my age really enjoyed the animated movies and musicals.
I feel like it could've benefitted from being a musical and having a more fantastical setting than just BarbieLand. Even if they were dead set on keeping the themes I don't understand why everything had to be grounded in the Real World. It just seemed like such a safe choice, not a bad one necessarily, but definitely safe to not alienate older folk going to see it. But I didn't really want safe, I wanted whimsical, musical, magical, and I don't see how that would've compromised having an emotionally relatable theme or message.

The first one is an acrylic painting that I made as a Christmas gift for my Grandmother. I painted her a rag doll kitten because she loves them and always wanted to have one for herself. The second one is an acrylic painting study of an adorable scene from Animal Planet’s Too Cute series.

Okay, I know people as a general rule tend to not care about invertebrates as much as cute, fuzzy mammals, but this is a must-read if you care about animal welfare. The short version is that horseshoe crab blood has been used for decades in medicine as a way to test whether something is truly sterile; the blood clots in the presence of bacteria. Since then millions of horseshoe crabs have been captured and drained of blood, even though a synthetic alternative was developed a few years ago.
They go through a pretty brutal experience in the process. They're caught by fishermen who often throw them by their tails into a pile in the open air, and they're then trucked to a bleeding facility where they're strapped down and their blood is removed with needles jabbed directly into their hearts. Over half their blood may be taken, after which they're supposed to be returned to the ocean. However, it's likely many of them never make it back, instead turned into fish bait and sold by the same fishermen who caught them in the first place.
Apart from the fact that this is a horrific thing to put any animal through, the attrition due to fatalities has put a serious dent in horseshoe crab numbers. This is compounded by massive habitat loss, pollution, and the capture of horseshoe crabs as food, particularly as the females of one species are considered a delicacy. And other animals that rely on horseshoe crabs are suffering, too. The American rufa subspecies of the red knot, a medium-sized shorebird, is critically endangered as the horseshoe crab eggs it must have in order to successfully complete migration have become increasingly scarce, and it is likely the bird will become extinct if trends continue.
While there are guidelines for medical horseshoe crab harvest, they're considered optional. The few laws that exist are poorly enforced. Short of a complete ban on horseshoe crab blood in favor of the synthetic alternative, these animals are in very real danger of going extinct after a history spanning over 400 million years on this planet.
Thankfully, this article is not the first to bring forth the issues surrounding horseshoe crab harvest. Here are a few resources for further information and action (US based, though horseshoe crabs are threatened throughout their entire range):

Wetlands Institute - https://wetlandsinstitute.org/conservation/horseshoe-crab-conservation/
