I do think that US communists should be doing more to engage in mutual aid—just not in the ad hoc disorganized way anarchists suggest. Food banks and meals programs are rather prevalent in US cities, yet also incredibly disorganized and pressed for resources. They are functionally a part of the capitalist system right now, where a portion of the surplus food that would go to waste is distributed to the working poor by means of depoliticized organizations often disconnected from the communities they serve.

Imo, communists could greatly strengthen our connection to the masses by developing a systematized and politicized network of mutual aid, not in place of mass work but as a bridge between the organization’s political work and the lower strata of the working class.

Colonialist Environmentalism is so fucking perverse. Time and time again, in the name of protecting "the environment" (something clearly defined as outside and opposed to humanity), oppressed peoples are forcibly evicted from lands they've lived in since before living memory (sometimes even before recorded history). Systems of reciprocal relations between human and non-human parts of the world, people supporting themselves off the land with little to no ecological degradation for centuries or even millennia; all that means nothing in the quest to create the mythical "unspoiled wilderness", an edenic paradise for sightseers and game hunters free from all the pesky natives. And then the most rapacious polluters and habitat destroyers in the world will have the audacity to act like they're doing "the environment" a favour with all this.

Like it's not as though this sort of ethnic cleansing is remotely justified even when the indigenous people are engaging in ecologically destructive practices*, but the perversity of this approach to "conservation" is even more apparent when the people being removed were already the best custodians the land could hope for. It clearly has little to do with the land itself but rather who controls it. Environmentalism is just a rhetorical justification for the most blatant attacks on the self-determination of colonised people, a way to rob the oppressed of what little sovereignty they still have

*which is nearly always a product of imperialist exploitation when it does occur; either directly or due to the social and economic distortions this relationship creates. People generally don't destroy the source of their livelihood unless they have no other option
