Accident Man? Buy the movie, but don’t forget the comic!
Next month sees the DVD, Blu-ray, and digital release of comic book movie, Accident Man in the US (the UK date hasn’t been announced) – based on the comic crated and written by 2000AD creator Pat Mills and Tony Skinner, with artists Martin Edmond and Duke Mighten, so it seems an opportune moment to remind you of Titan The Complete…

The Complete Accident Man
The Complete Accident Man
Satirical, bloody, and definitely made for those with adult tastes, The Complete Accident Man collects the entirety of Pat Mills and Tony Skinner’s oeuvre about a professional hit man who makes his hits look like accidents. At the heart of this NSFW and darkly humorous thriller lurks a scathing commentary against consumerism, trussed up like a satire of James Bond and British sensibility.

Where do you live? ON THE EDGE!
I think Pat Mills intended this to be tongue-in-cheek, but you can never be too sure.

Punisher 2099 #1
Tumblr media
I like the Punisher when Garth Ennis or Jason Aaron are pulling me into some The Punisher’s head, hypnotizing me into some sort of animal state, riding along with Frank Castle from kill to kill, the scent of blood and gunpowder fresh in my skull, my lizard brain craving more murder, but I also like The Punisher when I get to laugh at how fuckin’ nuts he is.  Those are the stories I keep coming back to.  This particular story is funny.  Very funny, and it’s easily the best thing I’ve ever read with a foil cover.
We open a lonely street.  A man runs to the nearest pay-phone.  He’s desperate to get some police help.  A gang of “street surgeons” are chasing him, but the phone tells him his police protection plan is four days behind payment.
Did I mention this takes place in the future?  It does.  Punisher 2099 was part of Marvel comics cyberpunk line in 1993.  I don’t know about the rest of that stuff, but this was co-written by Pat Mills of creating Judge Dredd fame, so it’s already got a leg up on say, Spider-Man 2099 by Peter David.  The world of 2099 is controlled by corporations to an outlandish degree, and all the future architecture looks really abstract.  It’s hard to tell where and what anything is.  Future fashion’s pretty bad too.  Punisher’s costume looks ridiculous.  It makes no goddamn sense.  I just had to roll with it.
Anyway, It looks like curtains for our civilian, as the street surgeons converge on his location.  They cut into him, attempting to harvest his heart.  Another figure appears in the shadows.
It’s the Punisher.  Half the page is devoted to showing off all his weapons,* before one of the street surgeons tries pulling his weapon on The Punisher.  The Punisher unloads a fucking storm of bullets in an image that pretty much mirrors the cover.  He’s really going at these guys.  Gun flashes fill the page.  Despite all this, it still takes him three more pages to kill the three-man gang.  Not the most efficient Punisher, this future guy.  Still, it gives us this gem.
Tumblr media
That last panel is the first of many great close-ups of The Punisher’s eyes.
From that initial introduction, we’re taken to the 2099 Police Precinct, where the captain is briefing everyone on the recent killing spree of The Punisher.  The Captain’s called in special agent Jack Gallows to investigate.  Believe it or not, Jake Gallows IS the Punisher.  Crazy, I know.
Another great eyeshot later,
Tumblr media
We’re taken to Gallow’s secret origins.  Family. Park. Murder.  Yadda yadda.  What’s important is what comes afterwards.  Jake Gallows gets the idea to become The Punisher from reading Frank Castle’s diary, I mean war journal.  Not only that, but on the last page of the war journal, Frank Castle writes “YOU WHO FIND THIS – I CHARGE YOU TO CARRY ON MY WORK.” In all caps, with what looks like nacho cheese stains all over the page.  I’m surprised they didn’t put any backwards letters in it.
What could have drove Frank Castle to think others continuing his legacy was a good idea?  Who will Jake Gallows punish next?  Go read the rest of the series to find out because I don’t have it!  This thing is a grade-A hoot, ladies and germs.  Check it out.
*This was a pretty common thing at the time.  Apart from this alternate future spinoff, The Punisher had three comics in the early 90s, and one time they even devoted an entire special to pictures of guns and The Punisher’s notes on them.

Are You Ready for your Demonic Irrigation? Pat Mills, Tony Skinner and Dave Kedall's "PsychoKiller" is back in print
Are You Ready for your Demonic Irrigation? Pat Mills, Tony Skinner and Dave Kedall’s “PsychoKiller” is back in print
Hot on the heels of Carlos Ezquerra’s 2000AD & Judge Dredd Colouring Book, Pat Mills publishing imprint Millsverse has just released another new title – PsychoKiller, a collection of the strips that first appeared in the British weekly comic Toxic!, back in March 1991. The comic, written by Pat Mills and Tony Skinner, drawn by Dave Kendall, was the brainchild of a group of British creators: Pat…

Beginnings of a name....
Whew, what a crazy couple of weeks!
It was only not too long ago that I came up with this idea to run in a marathon. Then I thought, 'what I should do is run in a few races and work my way up to keep me motivated'. THEN I thought, 'what I should do is raise money for charity - running a marathon is a big task'. All of the sudden there is 11 people running along in the Rusty Runner Challenge and all of these things start happening!
It has been a couple of weeks in the making, but I came up with a logo, got some shirts printed, started a blog, started a facebook page. Loaded with arsenal I started sending emails.
So far not a lot of people have responded. However, I was surprised at how quickly some people jumped in and wanted to help. Of course there is publicity for them but most seemed genuinely interested and wanting to help.
The first real sponsor that has given us a highly valuable service is Body Renovations. Tony Skinner was on board straight away and has offered to train us up for a few months to help us achieve our goals. We have our first session as soon as we can all get together, and being trained will be highly valuable.
Then of course the Bendigo Advertiser did a story on our group. Hopefully, we will see something come of that also.
People are starting to take notice. And although we haven't got the backing and support that we are hoping for just yet, I think it will come. Hopefully, our $5000 target will be raised easily without sending us all broke!
So keep an eye out at the local races, because this is just the beginning of Rusty Runners. Look for the logo on our shirts and the numbers on our backs. I think this may be the beginning of something great.
