Broadway Divas Tournament: Round 1A
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aptly named, there was never a more leggy woman than Paula Leggett Chase (1961). Self-titled "Antique Showgirl," Paula is a veteran chorusgirl with shows like A Chorus Line, Crazy for You, and Kiss Me, Kate. She has gained recent notoriety for her social media presence where she gleefully shows off her everlasting flexibility and unmatched dancing. How many dancers in their sixties can you name who can still tap dance en pointe? In fact, how many dancers at any age can you name who even know tap dancing en point is possible?
Though we know her mostly from her screen work, Patricia Clarkson (1959) is a Tony-nominated actress who has appeared sporadically on Broadway, off-Broadway, and in regional theatre. She has taken on iconic roles like Blanche duBois from A Streetcar Named Desire, and had a topless scene in The Elephant Man on Broadway in 2014. And no, in case you were wondering, the grainy bootleg does not show anything. I looked. Trust me. She will be appearing in the West End this month in Long Days Journey Into Night.
PROPAGANDA AND MEDIA UNDER CUT:

"I am on my hands and knees begging you to look through this woman's instagram. You will be delighted, appalled, and flabbergasted. Here's her tap dancing en-point in her sixties for funsies. Here's her doing cartwheels and splits. Here's her posting thirst traps, like what the fuck, Paula? God, I love this woman's chaotic energy."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
"Her voice is like molasses on a hot summer day. Any woman brave enough to strip on Broadway in front of 136,696 people over the course of the show's entire run (yeah, I checked the attendance) is an icon and a legend. She's also a well-known tumblr reaction gif, so there's that. Her presence here as a certified Broadway Diva is a little precarious, but it's my poll and I do what I want."

Interview under the cut :-)
Penelope Wilton: ‘I was never a starlet – I wasn’t cast because of a pretty face’
Ahead of her stint in The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, Penelope Winton speaks to Fiona Sturges about her 55-year career in the industry
In a career spanning nearly 55 years, Penelope Wilton has cornered the market in quiet disappointment. As Anne Bryce in the popular 80s sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles, her eyeballs were permanently rotating at the childish antics of her on-screen husband Martin, played by Richard Briers, while in the film Clockwise she was the long-suffering spouse of John Cleese’s calamity-prone headmaster. In Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads series, she played a housewife who couldn’t bring herself to tell her husband she didn’t want to move to Marbella.
In her new film, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, she plays another wife bottling up her feelings. Wilton is retiree Maureen, whose husband, Harold (Jim Broadbent), receives a letter from an ex-colleague informing him that she is dying. Overcome with unexplained guilt, Harold pledges to travel on foot from his home in south Devon to Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland (500 miles, give or take), where his friend is in a hospice, leaving Maureen alone at home.
“First of all, she thinks he’s mad, and then gets very angry, and then very anxious and upset,” says Wilton. “But slowly she starts to recognise how much her marriage means to her, which she hasn’t in the immediate past because this sadness has thrown them apart.” The sadness relates to their late son, David (Earl Cave), who struggled with drug abuse and who, we learn through flashbacks, died years earlier from suicide. Unlike Harold, Wilton’s Maureen isn’t given the catharsis of an epic journey. Instead, her devastation is conveyed through intense bouts of vacuuming and in clipped phone exchanges with Harold. “You never walk,” she tells him, indignantly. “The only time you walk is to the car.”
Wilton and I are talking on the phone: she doesn’t do Zoom and rarely does in-person interviews nowadays. Though she is never less than polite, I sense that, if she had her way, she wouldn’t do interviews at all.
Nonetheless, at 76, she is showing little sign of slowing down, and isstill averaging a movie a year: last year she reprised her role as Isobel Crawley, mother-in-law of Lady Mary, in the second Downton Abbey spin-off film, A New Era, while in 2021 she appeared in Operation Mincemeat as Hester Leggett, formidable head of the MI5 secretarial unit. She still does bits and pieces of TV, most recently appearing in Netflix’s After Life, where she played a widow sharing a graveyard bench with Ricky Gervais’s grief-stricken Tony. Add to that her distinguished career in theatre and it is no wonder that, in 2016, Wilton was made a dame for services to drama.
When I mention her ability to convey deep disappointment with the subtlest of expressions, Wilton bats away the compliment. “If I get a part that requires me to do that, then I’ll do that,” she says. “But it’s also the case that people don’t go around bursting into tears. Most of the time we try to stop the tears coming and we tend to apologise when emotion overtakes us. It’s an English trait. I have to say I don’t have that trait as a person, but a lot of people have grown up learning to hold their emotions in.” She adds that she is pleased to see younger generations being more vocal about their feelings. “It’s great that they’re not holding it all in, as I think that is unhealthy. This silent world that Harold and Maureen live in, it’s very sad.”
Wilton is known for keeping her private life private, often delivering a stock reply to prying interviewers about it being better if audiences don’t know “my inside leg measurement”. What is known is that she has been married twice: first to actor Daniel Massey, with whom she had a daughter before they divorced in 1984 (he went on to marry Wilton’s sister, Linda), and then to Ian Holm, her co-star on The Borrowers, whom she divorced in 2001.
Wilton says she became an actor “because I wasn’t very good at anything else, and I liked stories and storytelling”. Her father, a businessman, had no interest in the performing arts, but her mother, Alice Travers, had been an actor and dancer. Wilton began going to the theatre at 15 and quickly realised she would “prefer to be on the stage than in the audience”.
But it was Ever Decreasing Circles, one of the biggest sitcoms of its era, that made her famous and which, she says, “I enjoyed more than I can say. People still have a soft spot for it, and so do I. Ricky Gervais loved that series and that’s why he cast me in After Life and why he called my character Anne, as a homage.”Ever Decreasing Circles was at its height in the 80s, when industry sexism meant actresses were often faded out after reaching middle age, but Wilton endured. Was that through tenacity on her part, or luck? “It was probably a bit of both,” she replies. “By the time I began doing film and television, I was already [in my thirties]. But before that I was doing theatre, and the parts for women in the theatre were plentiful. But also, I wasn’t ever a starlet. I played real people. I wasn’t cast because of a pretty face.”
Wilton also attributes her longevity to her ability to get on with people (“I can count on one hand the people I’ve really disliked”), and to play close attention to scripts and go “not for the big parts but the smaller and often more interesting ones that might have one or two really good scenes. It’s a good thing to learn, not to think about the size of the role. A smaller role can change a career.” She once told the theatre critic Michael Billington that, when giving masterclasses, she would tell students to do less acting. Watch any number of Wilton’s performances, and it is clear what she means. “I’m not a fan of big acting,” she reflects now. “I have always found you can achieve just as much by showing less and being real.”

New Post has been published on https://yaroreviews.info/2024/02/barclays-to-end-direct-financing-of-new-oil-and-gas-fields
Barclays to end direct financing of new oil and gas fields
Getty Images
By Theo Leggett
Business correspondent, BBC News
Barclays has announced it will no longer provide direct funding for new oil and gas projects.
The banking giant also says it will restrict lending to energy businesses that plan to expand their fossil fuel production.
Barclays is a major lender to the fossil fuel industry, but has been coming under mounting pressure to curb its support for the sector.
Campaign groups welcomed the move, but insisted it did not go far enough.
According to a report from environmental group Rainforest Action Network, Barclays was the biggest funder of the fossil fuel sector in Europe between 2016 and 2021.
It provided just under $16.5bn (£13bn) in 2022, although that was significantly lower than in previous years. In 2019 and 2020, the figure was more than $30bn.
However, the bank has been under pressure from environmental campaigners, shareholder activists and even celebrities to curb its support.
Last year, a campaign group including the actress Emma Thompson and the film director Richard Curtis called on the All England Lawn Tennis Club to remove Barclays as a sponsor of Wimbledon. They claimed the bank was “profiting from climate chaos”.
In what it called a Climate Change Statement, Barclays announced it would no longer provide direct funding for projects designed to expand oil and gas production, or infrastructure related to such projects.
It said it would also end direct funding for any oil and gas projects in the Amazon or in the Arctic Circle, or which were aimed at extracting, processing or transporting oil from oil sands.
But direct funding for specific projects makes up only part of Barclays’ overall lending to the sector.
The bank said there would also be restrictions on new financing for energy groups themselves, although these will be stricter for new clients than existing ones.
The plan is not wholly focused on oil and gas. There will also be curbs on lending linked to coal mining and coal-fired power generation.
Barclays is not the first bank in Europe to introduce such commitments. HSBC, Lloyds, BNP Paribas, Societe Generale and Credit Agricole have all previously announced restrictions on funding for fossil fuels.
The latest announcement was welcomed by ShareAction, a group that campaigns for responsible investment, but it complained that there were loopholes in the plan.
“Barclays is wrong not to have ruled out financing companies that focus exclusively on fossil fuel extraction,” it said.
“This should include fracking, which is causing so much environmental and social harm and is an activity the bank is heavily exposed to.”
Meanwhile, Make My Money Matter, the group that includes Thompson and Curtis, said Barclays’ plan was “inadequate in scope and in ambition”.
Its chief executive, Tony Burdon, said: “While they finally caught up with other major European banks like Lloyds by ruling out direct project finance for fossil fuels, the reality is this covers just a fraction of their oil and gas lending.
“This new policy lets them continue funnelling billions to those companies developing catastrophic new fossil fuel projects around the world.”
Barclays has pointed out that oil and gas funding represents a very small proportion of its overall activities.

Speaking of fans going to unhinged lengths to show their appreciation for a beloved character (or celebrity)...
I really shouldn’t be one to talk.
A few years ago, there used to be this YouTuber by the name of Tony Leggett, who did palm readings on celebrities.
I think that at a certain point K-pop fans caught wind of him, because after a while all he received were requests to do K-pop idols’ palm readings.
As you probably already guessed, I was one of those fans. And like the unhinged person I was, I had sent him a request to do my bias’ reading, thinking I’d send it to them afterwards.
I won’t tell you how this story ends, but know that I think about the OP who paid for Toni’s birthday message with fondness.
Just when I thought I had seen everything, the fandom decides to prove me wrong.

Violation of the Leggett-Garg Inequality in Neutrino Oscillations - J.A. Formaggio, D.I. Kaiser, M.M. Murskyj, and T.E. Weiss Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA (2016)
We have shown that neutrino oscillations clearly demonstrate a violation of the classical limits imposed by the Leggett-Garg inequality. This violation occurs over a distance of 735km, providing the longest range over which a Bell-like test of quantum mechanics has been carried out to date. The observation stands as further affirmation that quantum coherence can apply broadly to microscopic systems, including neutrinos, across macroscopic distances.

There's a palm reader named Tony leggett, he analyzed bts' hands in 2016, Taehyung's was the saddest part, he said that he should be careful of drugs and drinking too much, that he could be self-destructive and in another reading in 2020, he mentioned that again about drugs, what's scary is that Mohino Vidente, a tarot reader said in this year a few months ago that a member of bts will suffer from depression and use drugs... (I will continue my question in another ask due) - crymermaid
(2/2)And we know Taehyung was depressed and his Blue & Grey is a proof, please I'm so terrified, he's the member with the saddest readings, many readers feel sorry for him and many say he will get off the spotlight and won't be successful which fits with the drugs thing... PLEASE say it's not true, I'm literally crying, please make a reading about his future and his mental health :(
A: Yeah, I remember the older palm reading videos, and I do agree with what people say about Taehyung being at RISK of such things, however, risk doesn't mean certainty. Because of his tendency, especially in the past, to really shove things down as well as his general lack of self-awareness, he is a perfect candidate for someone who could slip into addiction in order to repress and/or deal with heavier emotions. However, considering his support system, his family, his friends, his focus on "performing" not only on stage but just to the public and people around him, to always have that good face on in one way or another, it seems unlikely that this could come to fruition.
I also very much agree that he could CHOOSE to step out of the spotlight, I think I even mentioned that at some point quite a while back, maybe in one of his earlier readings. Because of his constant, 24/7 performance, feeling like he's being watched all the time, having to keep himself in check, I feel like, with more maturity and more self-awareness, more self-respect even, he would naturally wish to separate himself from that public image he has created. Not because he's going to become an addict but because he wants to become more human, more himself, freer in some ways.
Again, I don't look at his risk as being any more of a certainty than it is for any of the other guys who are all naturally susceptible to that outcome just by being famous and working in stressful environments. Taehyung, from my perspective, based on what I've noticed over the years in my readings, is doing a lot better, becoming more whole and more self-aware. I would be surprised if this outcome with addiction is something he actually comes to.
I would also like to make a note that I've seen people read like this before where, specifically in like 2018/2019, certain readers were interpreting Hoseok as being suicidal when really, at least from what I was seeing, this was mainly rooted in a soul level, connected to his damaged and "burned" state in the soul body, not at all connected to his conscious or even subconscious headspace. The only superficial evidence of his soul state at that time would have been fatigue, headaches, muscle aches, and mood swings, which energetically could be interpreted as more severe mental issues, but without the context of a fuller picture, I think most energetic imbalances could be. In other words, Taehyung's soul was literally broken in half for years and years, since he was a little kid, he is imprinted to experience that in this lifetime, it's literally in his birth chart, and apparently in his palms, but it does not mean that that is his final destination. This was a pathway of personal development that sped up quite a lot after the separation of the Soul Body. I think he'll be okay.

Takeru Satoh Palm Reading by Tony Leggett*
Good square hand. He has a 'simian crease'. It means there's no 'head line', there's no 'heart line', it's just one. So what you see with him is what you get.
I think he has a 'twin personality', also. So he could be a very interesting person.
He needs spiritual development because he could well be into everything physical and everything material. He's first self thinking, he thinks about himself first, selfish. And he's very active sexually because he's got this mind, it goes around (?).
Nice square, 'working hand'. The thumb is low set, he's an old soul. He's been around a lot, a lot of times. His 'mercury finger' says that he experiences all these things, he's got these fantasies, that's why he's a good actor. So many lifetimes, that he can act as all sorts of different personalities. But he's also loyal to his friends and his family.
He has a 'protection' coming around his 'life line' which means he's protected from a lot of negative stuff people might want to throw at him.

//By 'an old soul' I think Tony means Takeru has been through so many incarnations that he's got a whole library of different personalities to access to when he digs inside his fantasies. It must be very useful in that case for the acting job that he has 🤭
