Baby’s first christmas
Tags: JJK men x fem!Reader, you two have a kid, tooth rotting fluff, JJK men being dads, tis the season, kind of suggestive on Satoru’s and Sukuna’s. Not proofread bc it’s christmas.
An: Happy holidays! No Choso because I never really include him in my JJK men as dads series. Sorry Choso enjoyers!! Also, the kids names have no affiliation with the names of anyone in JJK. They were names I thought up a while ago. This is a little short because I wrote it on Christmas Eve lol.
Incl: Satoru, Suguru, Nanami, Toji, Sukuna
SATORU
This would be Satoru’s first Christmas at home with a family. His clan didn’t celebrate Christmas, and even if they did, Satoru knew santa wasn’t real from a very young age.
He stared at you and your infant son as you rocked him back and forth. Satoru swore he could feel his heart swell three sizes larger. He knew that realistically his son, Aoi, wouldn’t remember this Christmas, but he wanted to create traditions.
He wanted to have something that he could look forward to every year.
“Where are you going?” You asked your husband with a warm laugh as he grabbed his keys and wallet. It was the night before Christmas. Everything would be closed by now, and they wouldn’t open until the day after Christmas.
“Don’t worry about it, Sweets. I’ll be home soon.” He assured you with his signature grin. He leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to both yours and Aoi’s head. His small baby stirred, making the cutest grunts and sleep noises. “Make sure to leave some cookies out for Santa. I think he should be stopping by soon.”
You rolled your eyes playfully at your husband’s antics. It was never a dull moment between you two.
“I think my sweet-toothed husband will eat them before Santa gets to them.” You remarked at Satoru headed towards the door. He flashed you a cheeky smile.
“No promises. It’s the thought that counts anyways.” He said before heading out into the snowy night. You shook your head at him, knowing he was likely up to no good.
You continued rocking Aoi in the rocking chair for a little while. Aoi could be a very fussy baby when mama or dada wasn’t holding him, so you weren’t taking any chances of putting him down just yet.
Instead, you carefully wrapped him up in a sling baby carrier, and you popped some cookies in the oven. Satoru helped you make the dough yesterday, and you two had already cut them out into various Christmas shapes.
Your mind was elsewhere as you cleaned up the kitchen and thought about what all needed to be done tomorrow. Satoru’s clan didn’t celebrate Christmas, but you had planned a surprise Christmas party and invited all of his friends to come celebrate with you three.
After a while, the oven beeped signaling that the cookies were at the perfect level of doneness. You put on your oven mitts on before carefully removing the pan. As you sat it down on the stove, the sound of tumbling down the chimney caught your attention.
Was there an animal trapped in your chimney? You grimaced at the thought of trying to save a rabid animal from the confines of your chimney.
You stepped over to the chimney to investigate from afar. With Aoi in your arms, you didn’t want to put your son in harm’s way.
Luckily for you, your goofy husband stared back up at you. His bright blue eyes were unmistakable, even while he had on a fake Santa costume with a fake beard. His face was smeared with black marks from the coal in your fireplace.
“Ho, ho, ho..” He laughed in a thick bellowing tone as he crawled out of the fireplace.
“Satoru, what are you doing? You’re going to scar Aoi.” You laughed as you walked over to your husband, wiping some smears off his cheek.
“I don’t know this Satoru you speak of. He must be on my naughty list. Ho, ho, ho.” Fake Santa continued, shooting you a small wink. He really wasn’t going to give up this act easily, was he?
He didn’t. Satoru played as Santa, placing a few gifts under the tree and munching on some homemade cookies and milk in the act. He had to perfect his Santa persona for when Aoi would be able to form memories.
Your real husband conveniently didn’t return until after “Santa” had left, and he even had the audacity to pout about not receiving any gifts from Santa. You had to politely inform him that he was on the naughty list this year, which promptly had Satoru smirking at you.
“Bummer. Santa even forgot to leave me a lump of coal. If only there was another way for me to be punished for being on the naughty list…”
SUGURU
You were dreading Christmas. A new mom with twin baby girls and several houses to go to just didn’t sound like any fun. Of course, your husband, Suguru, would offer to help in any way he could, but you both knew you were going to be exhausted and overstimulated by the end of the day.
“We don’t have to go see everyone.” Suguru murmured into your ear. It was the night before Christmas, and you had just been anxiously carrying on about how badly you didn’t want to get out tomorrow.
His large palm rubbed up and down your arm in a soothing manner as he cradled you in his strong arms. Your head was pressed against his chest, listening to the steady drum of his heart.
“That would be rude.” You murmured.
“As if I’ve ever cared about being rude.” Suguru retorted with a calm smile. He then reached over and flicked off the bedside lamp, cascading your bedroom in darkness.
You two snuggled in each other’s arms, sharing lazy kisses and sweet nothings. It felt like you only managed to blink your eyes before one of your girls were crying over the baby monitor.
Patting the bed next to you, you find nothing but slightly warmed sheets. Geto must’ve already gotten up with the girls. One look at the baby cam has your heart melting.
Your husband’s sleepy eyes are half closed as he has a baby in each arm. He was quietly trying to shush them, speaking softly, “Please, don’t wake up mama. Let her sleep in today, girls. She deserves to rest easy on Christmas.”
You pushed the covers up off of you, unable to resist seeing this moment for yourself. You lean against the nursery doorway as you watch him continue shushing and rocking the twins.
“Merry Christmas, Suguru.” You finally spoke, giving away your presence. Your husband subtly flinched before turning around to meet your gaze.
“Merry Christmas, darling.” He responded before walking over and pressing a kiss to your lips. “I have a surprise for you.” He murmured into your presence.
A crease formed between your eyebrows as you wondered just what he was up to. He carefully nodded towards the window, signaling for you to take a look outside.
The bright light reflecting off the white powdery substance had you shielding your eyes. It must’ve snowed at least 7 inches throughout the night.
“We’re snowed in.” Geto quietly chuckled, pleased with the turn of luck. You two didn’t have to haul the twins to several houses, and you two could just rest easy at home.
NANAMI
Your husband had always been an early riser. He was consistently up earlier than you, even on christmas morning. You were normally really into Christmas, but you never managed to wake up before him.
Even this morning, you drowsily rolled over in your shared bed, trying to find your husband’s presence, but he was no where to be found.
You slowly sit up, rubbing your eyes free from sleep. You were honest surprised that Hana didn’t wake you two up during the night and Yuji hadn’t woke you up either.
Getting out of bed, you see Nanami had already placed your robe and slippers next to the bed for your convenience. You smile before slipping those on and heading downstairs.
“Nanamin, does this bacon need to be flipped?” You hear Yuji’s voice ask. The soft sounds of Bluey playing on the living room TV also fill your ears, and Hana’s soft babbling can be heard as well.
“Yes, go ahead and flip it.” Your husband instructs Yuji. You two had adopted Yuji after the events at Jujutsu Tech. He needed a family, and you two had a loving home that was painfully empty. Now, it was never a dull moment between Yuji and his little sister, Hana.
You quietly creep into the kitchen, and you smile at the sight. Your husband was clad in a white apron that said, “Kiss the chef”. You had gotten it for him long ago, and he still wears it to this day. He was working making some pancakes while Yuji was tending to the bacon.
Hana was in her bouncer chair in the living room. Nanami rarely ever parked her in front of the TV, but walking around with her in a sling wasn’t an option this morning, not when Yuji was frying bacon and she could be popped with it.
“Merry Christmas, you two.” You said, finally announcing your presence. Yuji looked up at you before his lips turned into a pout, and Nanami let out a small chuckle.
“Good morning, darling. You couldn’t sleep for just a few more minutes? Yuji wanted to give you breakfast in bed as a christmas present.” Your husband walked over to you, and he pressed a kiss against your temple.
“Aw, sorry, Yuu. I was excited to see you and Hana open up gifts.” You said with an empathetic smile, and Yuji’s pout vanishes.
“That’s alright! I can give you breakfast on the couch. It’s almost as good as breakfast in bed.” His bright smile quickly returns to him.
“It’s perfect, Yuu.” You say before ruffling his soft pink hair. He was such a good kid. He deserved the world and more.
A little while later, your family was sat upon the couch. Nanami was passing out Christmas gifts. Hana was sat in your lap as you helped her unwrap her gifts. She, of course, wouldn’t remember this, but this would be your favorite memory of all time.
“Let’s give Hana and Yuji another little sibling next Christmas.” You mutter to Nanami as you two watch Yuji and Hana play together on the floor.
“Ew! I heard that!” Yuji pouted, causing for both you and Nanami to laugh.
TOJI
Sweet baby Megumi was just three days old on his first Christmas. You and Toji had been hoping that the doctors were going to finally discharge you and Megumi, so you two could go home on Christmas.
It’s not that you two had any plans. You both came from broken families, but even if you did have family, you two had agreed on no visitors for the first week. You didn’t want to risk Megumi or you getting sick, especially since all the nasty sickness goes around during December.
You two also just wanted to get use to life with a baby. This was your first, and you were young. There was going to be a small adjustment period, and you wanted to worry about that without also worrying about visitors.
Toji was laid up in the hospital bed with you. He didn’t care about the damn policy. His wife just had a baby. He was going to hold her in his arms as much as he could.
Megumi was in your arms, sleeping away peacefully. “He’s got your eyelashes. I’m jealous.” You murmur to Toji as both of you admire your beautiful baby.
“He’s got your mouth.” Toji offered as consolation, and you let out a small giggle.
“That’s all he got from me. I carried him for nine months, and he had the audacity to look like he fell from your ass.” You comment back, making Toji grin down at you.
“Sorry, ma. Those Zenin genes are unfortunately strong.” He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “If I could have it my way, he would look just like you.”
“No,” You whispered with a heartfelt smile. Tears blurred some of your vision as your hormones were still so out of balance from birthing a child. “He’s perfect. I love him so much already.”
“Don’t cry, ma.” Toji muttered as he used the pad of his thumb to wipe away your tears. This would only be the 20th time you cried over how much you love your son.
A knock at the door startles you both, and your doctor walks in with a pleasant smile. “Merry Christmas, you two.”
“Merry Christmas.” You respond back in a hesitant tone. The thought of the doctor informing both of you that you had to stay another day worried you to no end. Both you and Toji were going stir crazy inside that hospital room.
“I’m sure both of you are ready to take your little bundle of joy home.” The doctor says as he flips through your chart briefly. “So, I’m going to let you go home today.”
Sighs of relief fill the room. It was probably the best Christmas gift you had ever gotten.
Scratch that, seeing Toji do the “hot dad walk” was definitely the best Christmas gift you had ever gotten. He was wearing a black hoodie, carrying a carseat with your son all bundled in, and he was walking out to the car as a nurse pushed you in a wheelchair (you tried denying the wheelchair, but it’s “hospital policy”).
“We’re bad parents.” You cried on the way home. Toji was flabbergasted by how quickly your mood could change.
“We’re not bad parents. Why would you say that, ma?” He asked as he reached over and rubbed your thigh while driving the car. Megumi was peacefully asleep in the back seat.
“We didn’t get our son anything for Christmas.” You mumble through the tears. Megumi was actually due on December 26th, but he decided to come a little early. You two decided that a newborn didn’t need gifts, and you were heavily pregnant, so the idea of wrapping any gifts didn’t spark you any joy.
“Doll, we literally gave him life. Besides, I’ve only known the brat for a couple days. How should I know what to get him?” Toji jokes, trying to make you feel better about the lack of gifts. You let out a small laugh in response.
“I promise, ma. We’ll give him a better Christmas than you and I ever got next year.”
SUKUNA
“My son will worship no false deity. I’m the only god getting worshipper around here.” Sukuna declared as he covered up Ryu’s ears with his hands.
“Santa Claus is not a false deity, Kuna. He’s a fairytale.” You respond back to your husband as you roll your eyes. It’s not even like your sweet baby could even understand what you two were saying about Santa anyways.
It was his first Christmas, and you were trying to introduce both Sukuna and Ryu to the human traditions for the holiday season. It seemed like neither of them were having it.
“Do curses do anything for the winter solstice?” You ask Sukuna, looking up at him from your seat on the floor as you help Ryu unwrap another gift from Santa you and Sukuna.
“We eat a virgin.” The king of curses reply without skipping a beat, causing you to look up at him with disgust and horror. “Oh, don’t worry, flower. You’re safe. I made sure of that long ago.”
You roll your eyes and give him a pity laugh. Sukuna thinks he’s so funny sometimes. “Yeah, I didn’t think anyone would mistake me for a virgin when I have your baby on my hip constantly.”
“You should have another on your other hip.” Sukuna comments with a wolfish grin. Ever since you pushed Ryu, Sukuna had been gunning to get you pregnant again.
“I think one half-curse, half-human baby is enough, Kuna.” You say with a small laugh while jingling a toy in front of Ryu’s face. He giggles happily as he reaches out to grab it from you.
“You’re the only human that gets away with defying me. You know that? I would’ve already dismantled anyone else.” He comments, and you roll your eyes once again. “I should inform Krampus of your disobedience.”
“Wait- curses believe in Krampus?” You ask as you look back up at him, finally intrigued by what he was saying.
“He’s real. There is no believing in him. He goes around and punishes the naughty children, even curse spawn have to worry about Krampus.” Sukuna informed as he propped his head up with his hand and gave a lazy smile. One of his favorite pastimes was teaching you about his culture. He loved how you always listened and absorbed the information while trying to relate it to human culture.
“Isn’t being naughty what curse spawn are meant to be?” You question as you cock an eyebrow. Sukuna gives a low chuckle in response.
“Yes, but they’re still expected to obey their elders as Ryu is expected to obey us.” His large palm gently pats Ryu head, and your son looks up at him with the most innocent of smiles.
Most babies are inherently terrified of Sukuna as if they could sense the danger from him, but Ryu loved his dad and never showed any signs of fear. The sight of you and Ryu playing with toys on Christmas morning was enough for Sukuna’s heart to grow three sizes bigger.

Someone For Christmas - Tommy Shelby x Reader
“You’ve been a better man since she’s entered your life, Thomas,” Polly commented, a knowing look present on her face, “don’t go back to the man you were before her.”
She was the first to visit the brooding Tommy Shelby that evening, and she brought back to light all of the poor choices he’d made in the past.
“She’s done way more for you than anyone else has,” Ada said as she sat down across from her brother, “I see how she helps you every day. Only a fool would let her go, Tom.”
Tommy stared straight ahead at the Christmas tree as his sister rehashed all of the correct decisions he’d made recently…and she made sure to point out how the woman being mentioned was part of every one.
“I really like her, dad,” five year old Charles Shelby’s voice was soft as he held onto the doorknob of his father’s study. “Will she come back for Christmas?”
This time, Tommy looked at the person — the third of the day — addressing him. He opened his mouth to speak, but the words wouldn’t come out. “I…I, I don’t know, son,” was all he managed to get out.
“Why’d you call me here, Tommy?”
This time Tommy Shelby was the one who requested a visitor.
“I wanted to speak to you,” he answered, not realizing how business forward the sentence sounded until it left his lips. The fact that her one eyebrow quirked upward immediately after he finished speaking told him that he’d be fighting an up-hill battle.
“About?” she asked, her guard still very much up. She couldn’t believe he called her back again….she couldn’t believe she gave in and listened, again.
“I need you to come back, (Y/N),” he decided it’d be best not to dance around the subject.
“If you want to win me back, that’s not how you do it,” she blatantly responded. Tommy sighed, running a hand over his face. “Did someone put you up to this?” she then asked another question, “because it seemed like where we stood was pretty final the last time we spoke.”
“Charlie came to me,” he chose the one out of his previous three visitors who he felt would cut through her reinforcements the deepest. “He said he missed you, asked if you’d be here for Christmas. He really likes you.”
“I really like him too,” a soft smile formed on (Y/N)’s face as she thought of the boy. Tommy thought he was finally gaining some headway. “Shame his father’s a terrible man,” she couldn’t resist getting a dig in.
“(Y/N)…” Tommy locked eyes with her, a deadpanned expression present on his features.
“You brought this upon yourself,” she didn’t crumble under his gaze, instead returning it to him.
“I don’t want to argue with you,” he paused to sigh, pressing the pads of his thumb and index finger against his eyelids, “this meeting was meant to be an extension of an olive branch.”
“Tommy Shelby offering peace?” the surprise was clear in (Y/N)’s voice as her eyes widened greatly. “Well I’ll be damned…it’s a Christmas miracle!” her sarcastic comment had him sending another glare her way. She couldn’t help but smile at it…she was having fun getting under his skin.
A moment’s pause fell over the conversation as Tommy took some time to regain himself. There was no use blowing this up to more than it had to be. He knew (Y/N) was trying to push his buttons, and he had to hand it to her…she was succeeding. There was no hiding the fact that they had some things that they needed to hash out, and he had no doubt that they’d get to that soon enough. Christmas Eve wasn’t the time for that though. Right now all that he could think of was his son, and how he so desperately wanted someone other than his preoccupied father sitting beside him in front of the Christmas tree come tomorrow morning.
“Will you accept it?” he finally asked, affirming that he wanted no parts of getting into the details of the animosity that stood between them.
Now it was (Y/N)’s turn to think. She truly did love Charlie, even if his father had been getting on her nerves as of recently. What she didn’t want was this to seem like her seceding to him so quickly. If he wanted her back this time, he was going to have to work for it.
“(Y/N)?” Tommy called out, bringing her out of her thoughts and back to the conversation they were having.
(Y/N) pursed her lips as she looked at him again. His eyes were already intently on her, and she knew that he wouldn’t wait much longer for her response. Thankfully she’d decided - right now they didn’t need to discuss what their future would look like…right now they needed to focus on going one day at a time.
So with that in mind, she answered him: “everyone should have someone for Christmas…” she paused, letting those words sink in for a moment before she added the second half of her statement: “and right now, that’s all you’ll have me for.”
A/N: congrats on 17k, Chi! I’m sorry that wasn’t able to write something more than these few lines. This was my take on the movie/book A Christmas Carol - I hope it came across as such.

kim mingyu + putting a gingerbread house together wc: 623 warnings: mentioned of food, making out author's notes: a little late, forgive me😔 but this seemed a lil adorable to me, so I hope y'all like it too <3 winter wonderland masterlist
when mingyu asked to come over, you weren't expecting him to bring a whole gingerbread house kit with him.
he lifts it up the moment he steps in, a huge smile plastered on like he's showing off a proud achievement.
"i got us a kit for gingerbread house," he says as he settles beside you on the couch, leaning into you instinctively. you get up to look at it, and furrow your brows when you don't see any brand names on it. mingyu seems to notice.
"i made it by myself. it's just outlines for the house and some ingredients; we're making it all from scratch," he adds with a wink.
now, you can only cook to save your life. baking is a territory you haven't entered yet, so it was natural for you to shudder a bit when he said 'we' instead of him alone.
"you mean to say, 'we' are baking it?"
he nods his head and you say, "gyu you know i can't bake right? i cannot afford to burn down another house.... again," the memories of last valentine's comes to your head and you shake it all away.
"don't you worry, my love. i meant i'll do the baking, you just have to sit and look pretty for me. you can manage that right?" he chuckles when you nod enthusiastically.
for the next 2 hours, the tv plays forgotten in the living room, because what can be better than watching your boyfriend bake in just a white tank top and grey sweatpants? sweat beads adorn his forehead and biceps as he mixes the dough; arms flexing with every movement when he spreads the dough into a sheet; eyes in focus mode and tongue peeking out when he draws the outlines on the sheet of dough.
the house isn't even halfway made and you're already drooling.
the baking time for the dough is used up for sloppy makeouts and flirty touches. you're too focused on the way his lips feel on your neck and how wet you feel between your legs where his fingers are playing when the oven bell startles you. he pulls away reluctantly, but not before placing a dollop of the icing cream on the corner of your lips and cleaning it away with his tongue.
an hour later, the counter is filled with the baked, house-shaped cookies, multicoloured icing creams and other decorations. he gets to work immediately, carefully tracing delicate designs on the walls before attaching them. within a short while, the house is up and standing, and your mouth remains wide open in genuine awe.
"wow, gyu... it looks beautiful-" you lean in closer to see more clearly. just as you do though, the whole structure goes falling down, cream flying onto your faces as the walls crash down. the two of you freeze, slowly turning to look at each other before bursting into laughter.
"you just knocked down my house, you home wrecker!" he says and kisses your forehead. you can only laugh helplessly. after a while of kissing and laughing, he gets back to work, while you stay a safe distance away to avoid any other mishaps. once he's sure that the house is firm enough, he calls you over to help decorate it, and the two of you get to placing the candies and marshmallows on it. when the work is done, you step back and admire your work.
"now we just gotta store it till tomorrow. the guys are gonna love it!" he giggles and turns to look at you to find you looking at him. you wipe a bit of the cream off the tip of his nose and lick it.
"how's it?" he asks.
"sweet, just like you."

“Light” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 447 words
James slowly made his way through the drunk and swaying crowd, walking down the stairs leading to Regulus' dorms.
He opened the door slowly, making sure not to wake Regulus if he was sleeping. James knew he wouldn't have slept so quickly yet a part of him craved to watch Regulus sleep.
He tiptoed towards Regulus' bed which had its curtains drawn shut after shoving the invisibility cloak and map into his pocket. He slowly reached for the curtains and unfurled them quietly, making sure not to spook Regulus in his sleep.
Regulus wasn't on his bed nor was he upstairs at the almost dead party. But the map had shown him in his dorms just moments ago. As he made to grab the map from his pocket, a light came on behind him from a wand tip. He was caught. Regulus was going to be so mad if he found out that one of his dorm mates found James creeping around in the middle of the night.
He turned around quickly to see if he had any chance of diffusing the situation right then and there and found a spooked Regulus with a face full of disbelief glowing from the wand tip.
“James? Are you insane? Why are you here?” Regulus hissed in a low voice.
“Reg. It's just you. You gave me a heart attack,” James gasped. “I just had to see you. I wasn't going to miss congratulating you on the win.”
“You could have done that tomorrow when we agreed to meet, James. What if Barty or Evan had found you? Or worse, Filch? How did you even get here?” Regulus whispered in a rush.
“I have my ways,” James murmured, moving closer to Regulus' and lowering the lit wand with his hand.
“James,” Regulus breathed in warning.
“You were so amazing out there today. I couldn't take my eyes off of you. That catch was fantastic. You flew like a world class player,” praised James.
“You should leave,” said Regulus, sounding unsure.
“Not before I congratulate you,” James responded with his eyes staring intently into Regulus'.
In the faint light of Regulus' wand, James leaned down to meet his lips in the most heartfelt kiss, conveying all the congratulations through his body. When they broke apart to take a breath, Regulus stepped back for a second only to wrap his arms around James, enveloping him in a bone crushing hug.
James knew that it was his way of saying thank you. James slowly ran his hands through Regulus' hair and accepted the thanks for all its glory, cherishing the feel of the star in his hands burning Regulus' initials into his heart.

Maybe I can request… Agatha Harkness fixation with Reader because Reader is friendly and sweet so Agatha decides Reader is going to be only hers
The thing is… the thing is, you've always worked hard at being nice.
Maybe you're not special in any particular way, but you have done your best to be Nice, and that has to be good for something?
It's gotten the eye of a particular person - a witch, and you're fairly sure that she's a witch due to… well, a whole bunch of things. There's the lights that occasionally sprout from her fingers, or the way she always happens to get what she wants at the coffee shop, she never has to wait in line, things always seem to work out for her just so.
And also she's just. Floating outside your window. Floating like a mermaid, her hair all wavy around her face, purple trailing after her.
You don't know how she found your apartment, though.
She knocks on your window, and what are you supposed to do but open it?
"Hello there," she says, and she's smiling at you, that secret 'you and I are both in on the joke' smile that you can't help but smile back at.
"Hi," you say awkwardly, and your smile is… stilted, because… why?!
"I thought I'd check up on you," she says brightly, and she's got her hands shoved into her pockets. She's wearing a nice pair of charcoal slacks and a frankly admirable long coat, and there's a slightly wild look to her that's making you nervous.
"Oh," you say.
"It wasn't very hard to find your place," she adds, almost as an afterthought, and now she's walking through your small living room. Her boots sink into your carpet, and you wonder if you should tell her to take them off. You've got a little shoe rack by your door, but… what do you do for people coming in through the window?
"Um," you say. What are you supposed to actually say?
"I haven't seen you in a few days," she says casually. "I missed you. Thought I'd see if you were doing alright."
"Thank you," you say awkwardly. "I've been okay." You give her what you hope is a convincing smile. "It's just been, y'know, a little busy, with one thing and another." It's the time of year when work is hectic, and you've just about got the energy to go to work, come home, and vegetate.
"That girl was visiting," Agatha says, and now she's inspecting your bookcase, squinting at the assorted titles. You want to apologize for the mess of it, or maybe for some of the more embarrassing titles, but…
Well, you're still trying to wrap your head around the fact that she's here in the first place.
"Girl?" You frown, trying to keep track.
"With the bad dye job?" She's turned around, and she's frowning harder. "Horrible kaftan?"
"Oh," you say. "That's Maggie. She's my neighbor. She just broke up with her boyfriend, she was feeling down, we watched a movie, shared a pint of ice cream."
"So you've got time to have your neighbor over, but not to come see me?" She's crossed her arms, but she seems… taller.
It's making you nervous.
"I, uh. I didn't realize that it was so important to you that we meet up for coffee," you say awkwardly. "If I'd known, I wouldn't have, uh." You lick your lips. "I'll be in tomorrow," you add. "I've liked it too," you add, and it is true!
Who doesn't like having coffee with a hot, slightly unsettling witch? And okay, the way she trains her eyes on you will sometimes give you the creeps, but you can't deny it's kind of… nice.
All that work you've put into being nice, finally paying off in some little way.
"Don't bother," she says, and she steps closer to you.
You take a step back.
She takes another step closer.
Your back hits your kitchen table, and now you're standing here nervously, trying not to fiddle with your hands. She's close enough you can feel the warmth from her body, and the hem of her coat is brushing against the tops of your feet.
"How about we have a more… private meet up?" Her hand on your chin, forcing you to make eye contact with her.
You lick your lips, nod, and she leans forward, her lips so close to your own, her hot breath washing over your face. "And sweetheart?"
You manage to squeak some acknowledgment.
"No more visits from whatever her name is," she says. "I don't like sharing." And then she kisses you, and it's a little bit like you're flying yourself.

Day 24 of 25 Days of Christmas: Spending Christmas Eve together
Pairing: Fernando Alonso x Reader
Words: 874
Rating: PG
As the sun dipped below the horizon on Christmas Eve, a warm glow filled your home, the kind that only this time of year could bring. The excitement hung thick in the air, a palpable feeling that made your heart race just a little as you and Fernando set about your festive rituals.
You glanced around at the twinkling lights strung along the windows and the scent of pine wafting from the freshly cut Christmas tree adorned with ornaments that held memories of years gone by. It was a scene straight out of a holiday movie, and you couldn't help but smile at the thought that tomorrow, your little boy and girl would wake up to magic.
“Are you ready to get all the gifts out?” Fernando called to you from the living room. His voice was a mix of excitement and determination, knowing you both had a fair bit of work ahead. You nodded, making your way to join him, and together, you began to unwrap the treasures hidden in the corners of your home.
The first box you opened contained a colorful array of gifts—presents for your children, beautifully wrapped and tagged with their names in careful lettering. Fernando handed you a stack of presents, his face lighting up as he exclaimed, “Look at this one! I can’t wait to see their faces when they unwrap it.”
You both chuckled, the warmth of togetherness radiating as you carefully placed each gift under the tree. You became a team, working harmoniously to create the magical scene you knew they’d adore. As the pile grew, you took a moment to step back and admire your handiwork, the lights glinting off the sparkly wrapping paper—a sight sure to ignite the joy in your little ones.
But you two weren't done just yet. There were toys to assemble, and you both knew you had a few to tackle that night. With a playful sigh, you picked up the box labeled “Deluxe Train Set,” imagining the delight on your son’s face when he saw it in the morning.
You and Fernando spread out the pieces on the living room floor, the instructions resting atop them like a treasure map waiting to be explored. “You put the tracks over there, and I’ll handle the train,” Fernando said, grinning as he assembled the eager little vehicles. You couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia, recalling the times you spent building things together and the laughter and lightheartedness that followed.
As the train took shape, you focused on your own task, your fingers deftly maneuvering the bright pieces, each click and snap reminding you of the magic of childhood. You shared stories, laughter echoing off the walls as you imagined the adventures your children would create with their new toys.
After a little while, you paused to sip hot cocoa, the warmth spreading from your hands to your heart. You glanced up at Fernando, a playful glint in your eyes. “Would it be Christmas Eve if we didn’t pay tribute to the cookies?”
He chuckled, “Absolutely not! We can’t forget Santa’s cookies!” The two of you knew that your children had already put some out for him, but you couldn’t resist the temptation to have a few of your own in the process.
As you made your way to the kitchen, the smell of cocoa wafting behind you, you reached for a plate filled with soft, warm cookies—perfectly baked, gooey chocolate oozing from the center. You took a couple, your taste buds tingling as you savored the first bite. “These are amazing!” you said with delight, biting into another. Fernando followed suit, his smile mirroring yours.
You both settled down at the little table that held your little snack, the evening light softening the world outside. The warm kitchen felt alive with the season's spirit, the sounds of your laughter mixing with the quiet humming of the holiday tunes in the background.
Once your sugar cravings were satisfied, it was time to finish the last touches on the train set. With nimble fingers and shared determination, you and Fernando completed it, setting it up beneath the tree. The contours of the track were inviting and exciting, just like the morning that awaited.
With the gifts laid out and the toys finished, you stepped back to take in the sight. The cozy blanket of Christmas Eve wrapped around you like a hug, filling your heart with warmth. You shared a glance filled with an unspoken gratitude for this moment, the joy of creating treasured memories for your children.
“You know,” Fernando said softly, “we’re making traditions they’ll remember forever.” You nodded, understanding the weight of his words.
Together, as twilight enveloped the earth, you turned off the bright kitchen lights, leaving only the soft glow of the Christmas tree and the flickering candles to illuminate the space. Hand in hand, you both took a moment to fully embrace this magical night, knowing that tomorrow would be filled with laughter, joy, and the sparkle of Christmas magic in the eyes of your beautiful children.
And with that feeling of contentment, you both settled in for a cozy night, your hearts warm with the love and anticipation that Christmas Day would bring.

Sprinkle of Cinnamon ✨
Frankie Morales x f!Reader
Word count: 1.3K
Summary: While getting some holiday baking done, your boyfriend has a big surprise in store for you.
WARNINGS: Absolutely none. Pure fluff and family friendly themes ❤️ Mention of fire (Frankie burns some brownies but he’s a pro and gets the fire put out quickly.
Author's note: This fic is for @frenchiereading who I got in the Secret Santa challenge by @pedrostories. This was such a lovely challenge idea and I had a wonderful time writing this for you, Mel! Wishing you a very happy and peaceful holiday, and I hope you enjoy this little slice of Frankie sweetness 🥰
FRANKIE MORALES MASTERLIST | FULL MASTERLIST
Cinnamon is the last thing you need from the store, and as you wedge yourself in between other shoppers' carts during the last-minute Christmas baking rush to get down the spice aisle, you grab the last plastic bottle of McCormick's and head to the checkout line.
Now that you have your last ingredient a calmness washes over you. All the gifts are wrapped, the house is ready for your Christmas guests tomorrow, the first with your live-in boyfriend Frankie Morales and his young daughter Daniela. Everything is going according to plan. No surprises, just how you like it.
All that's left is the baking, which little Daniela blithely asked to assist you with.
However, when you arrive home, the sight you behold is of Frankie, apron haphazardly strewn about his person, emptying the last contents of the fire extinguisher at the stove. Acrid smoke hangs in the air and a sheepish smile creeps upon his face.
"Hey honey," he says pleasantly, coughing a little from the smoke. "Didn't expect you home so early."
"What happened?" you ask, wide-eyed, assessing the damage, of which there is thankfully little.
His seven year old daughter Daniela speaks up. "Daddy was trying to make brownies!"
"To surprise you," he groans, his secret unraveled by his own flesh and blood. "You have so much baking to do before tomorrow and I just wanted to help you get ahead."
"That's sweet." You wrap your arms around him and give him a soft kiss. "I'm sure they would have been delicious."
"I don't think so," Daniela shakes her head, unsuccessfully evading her dad as he scoops her up into his arms and tickles her.
A shuffling noise is heard upstairs, right above the kitchen in the bedroom you share with Frankie. "Is someone here?"
"No," Frankie says, giving his daughter a look as he holds her in his arms. "I didn't hear anything. Did you hear anything, niñita?"
Daniela hides her face in her dad's shoulder and shakes her head, but a tiny giggle escapes.
"Still, I should go check." He puts her down and races upstairs.
"Okay.." you side-eye them, a little smile on your lips. "Dani, sweetie, want to help me start with the cupcakes?"
Later that night everything is cleaned, back to its normal settings, and you're mixing a bowl of gingerbread with Daniela's help. She's excited to be involved in the baking process, carefully arranging the decoration icing tubes and separating the sprinkles by type, making the thumbprints in the jam-filled thumbprint cookies, and meticulously adding red and green M&Ms to the cupcakes she helped you frost.
Frankie, who claimed not to find anything suspicious earlier, is upstairs wrapping gifts (so he says), and suddenly emits a loud curse. There's a loud bump. You listen, watching the ceiling above you where the noise comes from. "You okay, babe?" you call out.
"Yeah! I'm good, baby.. don't come up!" he warns you.
"Okay," you stifle a little giggle, exchanging a glance with Daniela, who looks just as amused and shakes her head and keeps at her work, adding snowflake crystals to some freshly baked brownies.
"Ow! Hey, damn it," you hear him grunt, then another sound is heard, something muffled and whiny.
"Frankie?" you call upstairs.
He's silent but you hear some rustling and scratching. "What's going on up there?" you call out again.
"Daniela!" Frankie calls, evidently trying not to sound frazzled. "Can you come up here, niñita? Please?"
She dutifully goes up, abandoning the brownies.
"What is going on today?" you mutter to yourself, mixing the gingerbread as the oven dings its readiness.
Finally you have time to rest. Daniela's still helping out her dad with the wrapping, even though you'd offered your expert gift-wrapping technique. He didn't want you to see what he'd gotten you.
"I don't need anything for Christmas, just you," you'd told him all holiday season. But Frankie was insistent. He loved giving gifts, even something as small as a small bouquet from the florist or your favorite snack from the corner store where he took your car to fill up the tank.
You hope he'll like the watch you got him. You'd saved up for the expensive one he'd been looking at in the sales catalog for weeks.
"Babe, take a break and come down here for some cocoa!" you call up, putting down a tray of steaming sweet hot chocolate in three mugs, topped with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and some candy canes for stirring.
There's that shuffling sound again, like little taps on the stairs. You hear Frankie's curse and Daniela's high-pitched giggling before a golden retriever puppy comes bounding downstairs, a little Santa hat on its head, pawing at your legs.
"Oh my gosh, who's this little guy?" you bend down to scratch the puppy's ears as Frankie and Dani come downstairs.
"He's your surprise," Frankie says, swiftly picking up the little cutie. There's a red ribbon tied to his tail, with something on the end of it. "What is that?" you ask.
"I did that! I was very careful," Daniela says proudly. And before Frankie can move away with the puppy, you touch the ribbon and find something heavy on the end. Bright and sparkly.
"A ring?" You give Frankie a confused look.
If it's possible for someone to both pale and blush at the same time, Frankie accomplishes it. He unties the ring from the ribbon and slips it off, holding it between two fingers as he gets down on one knee, the puppy tucked safely under his arm.
"Baby.." he starts, and your eyes blur with tears of joy and excitement. Daniela claps her hands happily.
"I had a whole speech planned, but I'm just gonna wing it, and speak from my heart," he says, big brown eyes looking up at your like you're his life raft.
"You're the most beautiful person I've ever met. Not just on the outside, but on the inside. You're caring and smart and funny, you made Dani and I feel like part of a family again.. and you put up with all my bullshit."
Daniela gasps. "Daddy, don't say bad words!"
You laugh with him. "But it's true," he continues. "I don't deserve you, not one bit. But if you marry me I promise I'll show you every day that I can be worthy of you.."
Your heart is racing so quickly you're afraid it'll fly right out of your chest. "Frankie.. of course I'll marry you!"
It takes a moment for him to register your answer, then he's up and hugging you, the puppy wagging its tail and Daniela wrapping her little arms around yours and Frankie's legs.
"It was the hardest thing to keep her quiet," Frankie says, watching Dani play with the puppy, affectionately named Holly in the spirit of Christmas.
"That was all the noise I heard?" you snuggle on his shoulder as the two of you sip your hot chocolate, The Santa Clause playing on TV.
"I know you don't like surprises, but I wanted this to be memorable for you," he says with an apologetic look. You can't resist him, giving him a soft kiss which he returns with eagerness.
"It was.. I just feel bad I only got you a watch when you got me an entire engagement ring.."
"Baby, it's no big deal- wait, you got me a watch?"
You groan, smacking your forehead. "Yeah. That's meant to be a surprise for you too."
"The one we saw in the mail catalog? The expensive one?" You can't help loving how hopeful he sounds.
"It wasn't that expensive," you smile.
Content as you rest on the sofa, watching Dani play with Holly, life can't possibly get better. The diamond on your finger twinkles in the lights of the Christmas tree, but you're too enamored with the people in the room, the ones who belong in your heart.

Farter Christmas
Santa sat by the fire in his favourite chair, about to start the second check of the Naughty or Nice list. A formality really, as mistakes were rare and with all the boys and girls being extra good for Christmas, the chance of slipping from Nice to Naughty was extremely low.
As he scrolled through it, he reached a particularly troubling duo. The twins; Bryan and Ryan Miller.
Bryan was the perfect little angel, all year round. His brother, Ryan, on the other hand was a terror. He made it his mission in life to be his brother's biggest bully. He would break his toys, steal his sweets and other acts of cruelty. He was particularly gross in his torture, one of his favourite acts was to take every opportunity to fart on him, especially if he could time it to be in Bryan's face.
Santa tutted, shaking his head. It appeared this year had been no different in the Miller household. Years of giving Bryan what he asked for in his letter, and leaving Ryan only coal had done nothing to teach the lesson. That good girls and boys get presents, and naughty children do not. It was as if for Ryan there was no greater gift than getting to bully his brother.
The boys stopped believing in Santa quite early; Ryan probably never truly believing and willing to assign the coal to his neglectful parents, their pathetic effort to try and change him. Bryan had believed, but as the abuse grew the magic of Christmas lost it's spark. Soon Santa had no power there anymore. Frustrated by his time honoured traditions limiting his influence, he kept an eye on the pair.
--------------------
Years passed and nothing changed as they became adults. Bryan remained good at heart despite the abuse, which only escalated as the pair grew older. But it had taken its toll, he was a lonely and timid man. Ryan stayed rotten to the core, becoming more sadistic as his antics went unchecked.
He used the same bullying tactics to get ahead at work, now he was a top manager. He'd even been able to hire a Personal Assistant, of which he gave the honour to Bryan. Since he had struggled to find work due his shyness, he'd been desperate for anything, which Ryan took full advantage of. Getting 40+ hours a week to fart on his brother, and being paid for it.
In the office on Christmas Eve, as the two readied to finish for the holiday, they were unaware how things were finally about the change.
"It's been great having you work for me this past year, feel like you've been a real asset"
Bbbrrrppp
Ryan let out a fart to emphasize the ass in asset.
A sniffing noise could be heard from under Ryan's desk.
"Do you like working for your brother?"
Bbbrrrrppppppp
*sniff* "Yes, I do, sir. Thank you again for the opportunity "
Ryan let out a final toot before standing up from his desk and releasing his brother who began to crawl out. Ryan reached down and pushed Bryan's face into the seat of his chair so he could enjoy the days scent.
"You're welcome. Now don't forget, even though the office is closed from Boxing Day through New Years, I expect you to come in. I've got some reports I'm behind on so I'll need you to do those for me".
"Of course, sir. I'm happy to do that" Bryan muffled in to the cushion.
"Good boy. Right, I'm off. Make sure you have the farts out of that chair before you go. I'll see you tomorrow at mom and dad's. Don't forget to bring my gifts for them".
"I won't, sir". Not lifting his face from the chair, Bryan called after his brother as he was heading for the door. "Erm, sir, I'm sorry to ask. But...I was told earlier this year I'd be getting a Christmas bonus. I haven't heard anything though"
Ryan smirked, unseen by his brother, and walked back to behind the desk where his downtrodden brother was still dutifully sniffing.
"Oh, hadn't you heard?! I'm sorry to say that the bonuses were cancelled this year. Despite all us managers arguing for them to honoured"
"Oh...I see... That's a shame, I really could have used the money. But, I'm sure you did everything you could".
"I really did, I would appreciate your gratitude for my efforts" and with that Ryan turned his ass to his brother. Bryan, taking the hint, leant forward and kissed his ass.
Pppprrrpppp
For the rest of the night Ryan had been laughing and smirking to himself every time he thought of that moment. His pathetic brother, face down in his chair, believing he'd fought for his bonus. Oh he'd fought alright, he argued that his assistant didnt deserve it, that he missed some key targets and so wasn't viable. Ryan was reminiscing fondly on that brilliant ploy of his as he fell asleep.
In the room there arose such a clatter that Ryan awoke with a start. The room was lit as if by dozens of candles, but none could be seen. But in the room there was a large man. Dressed in a luxurious red velvet suit, with white fur trim and gold buttons. On top of his head a hat of the same cloth. Ryan could see him from his bed, but nothing else, as he was unable to move. As he struggled and writhed, the man in the room just let out a chuckle.
"Oh, hohoho, you won't get out of that"
Ryan lifted his head as much as he could and caught sight of large ribbons wrapped around him, mummifying him.
"Little Ryan Miller, all grown up now. You were always a very naughty boy. You made your brother suffer as children and now as adults. I didn't help when you were young, and I have regretted that,l dearly, so I'm here now to right that wrong".
"Fuck you talking about, you crazy weirdo" Ryan screamed. Thrashing in his constraints. "Bryan, is that you? Is this some ridiculous attempt to stand up to me?"
The man stepped closer and Ryan could see it was not his brother in disguise. His white long beard was real. The man was old, though still fresh faced and rosy cheeked, but his eyes gave away his age. Windows to a tired, ancient soul.
"Noo, Ryan. It's me, Santa, and I'm here to teach you a very important lesson".
Santa moved to the side of the bed. "I thought a fitting punishment would be to give you a taste of your own medicine.
Santa stepped up on to the bed, Ryan caught sight of his large shiny black leather boots. As Santa stood over him, Ryan could see the bulk of the man. His gut stretching the coat. He watched as the man turned around, his trousers pulled tight across his large, fat ass, as if threatening to tear.
Ryan desperately struggled against the bindings as Santa lowered himself down. His ass fully engulfing Ryan's face. His cheeks pooled over the side of Ryan's head, on to the pillows.
Muffled cries came from beneath, Santa just wriggled his ass back and forth until the sound stopped. Lifting himself back up off his victim he looked behind him, Ryan had passed out.
The cold air woke Ryan, chilly wind biting at his nose. He opened his eyes, confused by what was happening. Had that been a dream? No it couldn't have been. He was clearly outside, looking up at the night's sky. He couldn't move still and worse now his head seemed to be in a box or something, he could turn slightly, but only enough before hitting the edge of the window he was looking through. His nose and mouth sticking out in to the air. Where the fuck was he, and where was the crazy man who thought he was Santa? Ryan thought.
Not long passed before he heard footsteps. Crunching of boots on snow.
Then the man's face reappeared, looking down at him.
"Oh good, you're awake now. We did quite a few towns while you were out, I was worried you'd miss out on too much of my punishment".
"LET ME OUT YOU PSYCHOPATH!"
"Now, now, Ryan. Name calling is very naughty behaviour. I told you, I'm here to teach you a lesson". He moved out of view for a second, he climbed up causing Ryan's prison to tilt under his weight.
Santa shuffled in to view again, once more his ass in Ryan's field of view.
"I had the elves work on a special sleigh for me. Which you're in now. This hole you're looking through is in the seat. I'm going to take you with me as I deliver presents. Your face is going to be the perfect cushion"
As Ryan started to cry for help, Santa sat down. His wide rear filling the sleigh seat, his cheeks parting to allow Ryan's nose into his crack. The material of his trousers was soft on Ryan's skin. The warmth was a welcome change from the cold air. But the stench was not.
Santa chuckled to himself, his plan finally being enacted. Sometimes you just had to punish the wicked, he'd learned that too late. He set the reindeers off and spoke calmly. His magic allowed Ryan to hear perfectly despite the whistling wind and the large ass covering his face.
"Shall we begin, Ryan. Don't bother answering, I can't hear you. I'm going to go down this special naughty list I made for you. It lists every misdeed you've done. For each one I read out I'm going to fart in your face. You like doing that to other people don't you, do you find it as funny when you're on the receiving end?"
Pffftt
"There's a taster for you".
The airy fart hit Ryan, he couldn't escape it.
"Now, I know what you're thinking. There's no way I can fart enough to cover everything on the list. Well good news, I'm about to be eating a lot of cookies, mince pies and all the other treats boys and girls leave out for me around the world. Oh and don't get me started on what all that milk does to me! Mrs Claus is going to be thrilled this year to not have to put up with all my gas. Now I have my little sniffer here to take it all" Santa wriggled his ass back and forth. The seat was built well; Santa's weight was held off enough that Ryan wouldn't pass out from suffocation, but it meant his nose would still bury deep. Deeper with each wriggle.
"Right, here we go, let's start with this recent one. You stole your brother's Christmas bonus! Oh naughty naughty"
Pppprrrbbbb
Ryan heard his crime read out and the echoing rip of the fart that followed. He was furious. But all he could think about was the odour. It smelt like boiled sprouts.
"That's it, breath it in, my farts are as rotten as your behaviour. I may be magical but my farts still stink, boy. Remember how you cancelled the office Christmas party so you could make up for the losses from your poor performance"
BBBBPPPTTTT
"This is for making Bryan work next week when he isn't being paid, again to cover your ass"
BBBBBBFFFFFTTTTT
Ryan didn't think he could take much more of this. He was desperate for fresh air, all he could smell was the pungent sweaty ass and then a sudden rush of foul stench, that hissed, boomed and ripped from the hole millimetres from his nose.
Suddenly cold air rushed and the darkness was replaced with pale light as Santa stood up to deliver his next present.
"Please" Ryan pleaded. "Please, no more"
"Oh, Ryan, you haven't learned your lesson yet, you just don't want to accept your punishment. Now shush". Magically a bauble gagged his mouth, preventing him saying anything more.
"I don't want you making noise and waking the children", and off Santa went to make the delivery.
Before long Ryan was back under the warmth of his ass. As they were now in a large town the stops were frequent, so he got more air breaks between farts. But Santa had chosen particularly heinous crimes of his to justify particularly bad farts. They started to smell like spoilt milk.
"Remember when you threw you brothers college acceptance letter in the bin and told him they rejected him, all so you didn't lose your punching bag"
Ppppprrrrrrrrbbbbbbbb
'"That time you slept with the girl he liked..
Bbbpptt
In his bed!"
Ppppbbbbfffttt
The night passed on. As Santa read his list he let fart after fart out on Ryan's face. The smell changed with each country's food offering, but it was always vile.
”You sold his puppy and told your parents he let it escape"
Bbbbrrrrbbppp
"In front of all his friends at your birthday party you made him eat cake you'd farted on"
Pppbbtt prrrrbbbb
"The next time he made a friend and invited him over, you stuffed the kids head in the toilet, and he never spoke to Bryan again!"
Pprrrrppp
The ball gag was aching Ryan's jaw. His nose was sore from being crushed up against the hole for so long as Santa had truly mastered wriggling it deep up in there.
His body ached from lying still in the small prison. He thought hard about each and every act Santa read out, trying to find an shred of remorse within himself. Maybe if he could convince Santa he was sorry he'd end this. But it just wasn't there. He was better than everyone. His brother was pathetic. He fucking loved having him as his bitch. Each fart Santa unleashed just made him angrier, and he started plotting what he'd do to Bryan when he was free.
More time passed, a blink of the eye for the world but hours for Santa and Ryan.
At the next and final stop, Santa sighed. Shuffled over he looked down at Ryan through the hole. His face sad.
"Oh Ryan, this isn't working is it. I know. I see you when you're sleeping and I know when you're awake. Do you think I can't tell what you're thinking" he showed Ryan the list he'd been reading off. "Every time you plan revenge on Bryan it appears on the list as a potential. I dont think this is going to work out the way I hoped".
Ryan did his best to try and hide the smug satisfaction he was feeling. At least this the old fat man knew he'd been beat, and would take him home.
"But I can't let you go. I didn't help Bryan before, but I can help him now. You've been a great sniffer for me tonight. I've not smelt any of those farts. Not holding them in means for the first time in decades I'm not feeling all bloated, makes it much easier to get down those chimneys. No, I'm sorry. But if I can't let you go for risk you'll hurt the innocent, you'll have to stay with me. My naughty little fart sniffer. Maybe in time poems will be written, songs sung and books wrote that tell the cautionary tale of what happens to the naughty children if they don't learn to be good before they grow up"
Ryan couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"You'll come to the North Pole with me now, I'll use my time magic to freeze you until the next Christmas, and we'll go again. Maybe one day you'll learn the lesson, I guess that's up to you".
With another sigh, Santa slid back over Ryan's face. Covering it one more time. Letting out the odd fart, only this time Santa didn't bother to read from his crime list, it wasn't needed now. He was just here to sniff farts.
Santa stopped projecting his voice to Ryan, leaving him to the rattling of the sleigh and constant echoing of his farts. Taking the reigns he urged on the reindeer.
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!...AND SNIFFER!"

Want another fanfic? Well you’re getting one.
— — — — — — — — —
“Hey.”
Leo leaned next to Percy on the railing, looking out at the sea.
“Hey,” Percy replied, “Gods, big fight tomorrow.”
“Yeah…”
“It helps knowing we’ve got that physician’s cure.”
“Yeah…” Leo repeated, his shoulders stiffening uncomfortably.
He was quiet for a count of ten.
“You were there when Beckendorf died, right?”
Percy blinked, the question sudden. “I- I was, yes. Gods- it would’ve been almost a year ago now.”
Leo wasn’t looking at him. His eyes were locked on the sunset. They held a sort of weird sadness to them- a quiet, solemn acceptance that Percy recognised, but he wasn’t sure from where.
“Wh- why do you ask?”
Leo sighed, “I dunno… just… all this talk of one of us dying made me think about what he did. His sacrifice…”
Percy’s brow furrowed in concern. He put a hand on Leo’s shoulder, and made him turn to face him.
“Leo, what’s going on?” He said, “Is something-“
Leo didn’t meet his eye, “It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it. Forget I said anything.”
“Did something happen with Asclepius?”
“No! It’s nothing,” he turned back to the railing, “It’s just… I never met the guy, but I heard he was great. The effect his death had on my siblings was just… It just blows my mind sometimes how much impact you can have on a person. That even though I never knew him, I still felt the loss of him. I just wonder…”
It was then Percy realised where he’d seen that look before. It was the same look Beckendorf had had on there Princess Andromeda, his finger on the detonator, telling Percy to run. The firm resolution of the knowledge of what had to be done.
“Leo, you-“
It was then that Leo finally locked eyes with him. He held his gaze without saying anything for several seconds.
“Y-you’re not planning on… following in his footsteps- are you?” Percy asked, apprehensively.
Leo flashed him his trademark cheshire-cat grin. “Of course not!” He said, breaking the eye contact, “Just wondering, you know?”
“Leo-“
“Everything’s fine, Percy. Now we should probably get some sleep. Like you said- big day tomorrow!”
Leo walked away from the railing and was down the hatch into the deck below without another word. Percy was left staring out to sea. He remembered the shoreline of Manhattan just in view as the cruise ship approached. He remembered how Camp Half-Blood had looked as he’d broken the news. Percy had been through so much since then, but he never forgot. He remembered Bianca, Zoë, and Selena, too. All people he never got a chance to save.
He might not make it out alive tomorrow. But he’d be damned if he let anyone else die under his watch.
He looked back at the hatch. He hoped that Leo wasn’t planning what he thought he was planning. If he was… Percy just hoped he could save him in time.

Paper Angels | Simeon, Luke, & Raphael x Reader
1K Word Count | GN! Reader | Luke is platonic of course | CW: none, just minor misunderstandings
The snow was coming down hard outside. It was much too cold for even a grown angel to go out in, let alone a young one like Luke.
Luke kicked his feet as he waited at the table for something to happen. He let out another bored sigh that his housemates continued to ignore and he was growing more frustrated by it. Luke hadn’t taken any of their prior recommendations to keep busy so they weren’t going to give him anymore.
Finally, the answer to his prayers arrived, you.
You walked in the door and shut it behind you quickly. Everyone was surprised to see you had walked there in the blizzard and came to fetch your coat and bring you hot cocoa.
Luke was pushed aside as his elders fretted over you.
With you was a large plastic bin and you set it in the middle of the table.
“Luke,” you said loudly and pointed at him with a grin.
“Wh-huh? Yes!”
“I have a mission for you should you choose to accept!”
Luke nodded and saluted you. Simeon chuckled and hung up your coat, waiting to the side to see what you had in store for his apprentice.
“I need your help making paper angels!”
Luke nodded affirmatively but a confused expression crossed his face. “How do we do that?”
You feigned shock and opened the blue bin you’d been carrying and handed a pair of scissors to him and Simeon.
“Oh, me too?” Simeon asked and you nodded.
“I’m good with scissors,” Raphael commented and held out his hand until you noticed and handed him a pair.
You took a stack of white craft paper out of the bin and dropped it onto the table with a thud.
“I accidentally got myself into something I can’t get out of and long story short I need a thousand paper angels by tomorrow afternoon,” you said with a stressed grin and Solomon covered his mouth as he laughed.
“Don’t worry ___ I’ll help you!” Luke reassured you proudly and you nodded and felt a wave of relief hit you now that you had a determined little angel on your side.
The two older angels wondered what you could have possibly gotten yourself into that required one thousand paper angels but were unsuccessful in prying that information out of you.
“I googled it this morning and it looks really easy.”
“You agreed to make these without knowing how?” Raphael questioned your judgment and you smiled and nodded confidently as he grew more concerned about you.
“So, fold the paper a couple of times like this, make sure it’s even,” you showed them and they followed along easily.
“Now, trace out an easy-to-cut angel…” you said as you drew one.
The results immediately varied and you looked horrified. Raphael did not understand why as he showed you his design proudly.
“What…is that…”
“An angel.”
Simeon looked back and forth at you and Raphael and laughed. “Oh…um, ___, this is what Raphael really looks like…”
You took in that information as you stared at the biblically correct angel in front of you on the construction paper and decided to stop thinking about it and move on.
“Uh-huh…and you, Simeon?” You asked more hesitantly.
“Oh. This is a Throne.” He smiled apologetically and Luke shook his head.
“___ obviously means Christmas angels, right?” He asked you and you nodded.
“Oh…” Raphael said sadly and set his paper aside to try again, as did Simeon.
Eventually, the four of you were on the same page and drew near identical half-outlines of angels. Finally, it was time to cut them and Raphael got them done so quickly it was concerning so to save yourself the trouble of showing everyone how bad you were with scissors, you slid yours over to Raphael and he nodded and swiftly cut them out.
Raphael’s D.D.D. began to ring so he quickly answered it to get out of cutting Simeon’s angels too who was trying to pawn it off of him.
“Hello, Michael….Right now? We’re just cutting angels…”
You gave Simeon a concerned look and Simeon quickly tried to interrupt Raphael but he got up from his seat with a confused expression.
“What do you mean is everyone okay? Yes, we’re fine, I just explained…” Raphael watched you with an exasperated look as Luke and Simeon cut out the paper shapes.
“Simeon, you’re going to tear the wing off, careful,” he instructed and Simeon set his craft down and got up to take the phone away from Raphael.
“You want to talk to Simeon? Why?”
Simeon grabbed the phone but quickly became confused when he didn’t see the call on the screen and accidentally hung up.
“Oh dear…” he sighed and Luke’s D.D.D. began ringing instead.
“S-Sir Michael! Y-Yes this is Luke!” Luke dropped everything and held his phone flustered.
“What are Simeon and Raphael doing? We’re cutting up angels. ___ needs a thousand of them and they can’t get themselves out of it apparently…you’re sending who…w-wait!” The conversation became more concerning but you ignored it and traced more angels onto the paper.
Luke looked at Simeon in a panic, “There’s no need for that! It’s just a craft— huh…yeah…paper angels?” The tension in the room immediately lifted and Luke let out a small laugh, unaware that might insult Michael. Raphael looked nervous but when the call seemed to wrap up without any more misunderstandings he relaxed again.
“Yes Sir! I’ll let him know, Sir!” Luke said confidently and hung up the phone with a loud sigh. He stared at Raphael and blushed as he related Michael’s warning. “U-Um…Sir Michael says to clarify next time that it’s paper angels…also…he wants to know what ___ did to get stuck making a thousand of them.”
“Tell him to find out if he can,” you said as you concentrated on cutting along the lines.
“I-If he can? I can’t tell him that!”
“Then he’ll never know and neither will any of you. Now then, we’ve done eight. That leaves nine hundred and ninety-two to go.”
Simeon shook his head, “It’s going to be a while…isn’t it?”
Raphael held up his scissors confidently, expression blank as always, “With that attitude it will. Just don’t cut any more wings off and we should be just fine.”

Nanny!Buck AU snippet
Hi all, and Happy Holidays! Whether or not you celebrate anything at this time of year I hope that the universe is kind to you and you are able to do something that makes you happy with people you love.
Here's a little holiday treat from me - another snippet from my Nanny!Buck AU I'm slowly working on. It's currently at 4.6k words and still in the early stages.
--
“I trust you,” Eddie replies easily and Buck’s cheeks flush pink, a small smile gracing his lips. “I am a little behind on laundry. The hamper is in the bathroom.”
“Done. And please feel free to check in as often as you want – I promise I won’t judge you. It can be really hard leaving your little one with a complete stranger.” Buck seems to clock Eddie’s shaking hands, but kindly doesn’t mention them. Eddie knows Chris will be safe with Buck, but that isn’t making this that much easier.
“Okay,” Eddie breathes out in a rush. “Thank you. I’m just gonna check on him once more then I really need to go.”
“Of course,” Buck responds softly, and Eddie knows he understands. He quietly opens Chris’ bedroom door, comforted by his steady breathing and mop of curls against the pillow. He looks so small in his ‘big boy bed’, and Eddie has to physically stop himself from climbing in and going back to sleep. He (painfully) drags himself back to the front door where Buck is waiting, holding out the coffee and bagel with a warm smile on his face.
“Thank you, again,” Eddie laughs gently. “I’ll hopefully be back around 6:30 tomorrow morning.”
“No worries. And I mean it – call or message through the app as often as you want. I won’t take it as an insult,” Buck assures him and Eddie takes a deep breath, nodding. He can totally do this.
“I’ll try to cap it at three check-ins,” Eddie sighs, looking around to make sure he has everything (or maybe to put off leaving for another thirty seconds). Buck raises an eyebrow when he catches his gaze. “Fine, five.”
“Okay, Eddie,” he laughs a little. “Go, you don’t want to be late.”
“Yep, okay,” Eddie breathes. He takes his breakfast from Buck’s hands and steps through the front door (that Buck opened for him), turning around and desperately trying to think of an excuse to step back inside.
“Be safe out there,” Buck says, obviously sensing Eddie’s hesitation, “and we’ll see you tomorrow morning.”
“Tell Chris I said goodbye.” He has to go – he really has to go, because he’s cutting it close as it is. Buck assures him that he will tell Chris that Eddie loves him and said goodbye before he left, leaving Eddie with nothing to do but get in his car and drive to work. So he does exactly that.

Home For Christmas – Glen Powell
I walked through the beautifully decorated stores for Christmas, but I didn't feel it. Usually, I love this time of year. This year was different. About six months ago, Glen and I decided to move in together. Glen had to go to Australia just after Halloween to film a new Netflix movie. He wasn't able to come home for Thanksgiving, but he had promised me that they would be done before Christmas.
He called me three days ago saying that they were behind filming and now he wasn't even sure they'd be done by New Year's. Ever since the phone call, this season has been miserable.
I got a few last-minute things for my friends and Glen's parents. After shopping, I went home and started wrapping. I put them under the tree and sat on the couch.
I numbly grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. My heart sank when a cute Hallmark Christmas lovey-dovey movie came on. I used to love these. Christmas was different when the man you loved wasn't around to celebrate it with you.
I gave my parents a Caribbean Cruise for Christmas and they left yesterday. Today was the first day this season that I was truly alone. I jumped out of my pity party when my phone started to ring. My heart jumped out of my stomach and into my throat when I looked at the caller ID on my phone.
"Glen?"
"Hey, baby," he chuckled.
"Hi," I said, my voice breaking.
"Everything okay?" He asked gently.
"Yeah," I said, not at all convincingly. "I miss you."
"I miss you too, gorgeous," he sighed. "You have Angela's party tomorrow night, right?"
"Yeah, I guess," I shrugged, leaning back into the cushions. "I don't really want to but it's better than sitting at home on Christmas Eve, all by myself."
"I'm glad you're going," Glen said, sounding strange. "I feel bad that I'm not going with you."
"I wish you were," I mumbled.
"We will celebrate when I get home," he said. "I promise, baby. We will have our first Christmas together."
"I know," I sighed. I cleared my throat before deciding to change the subject. "How's filming?"
Glen and I spent almost two hours on the phone talking. After saying a long goodbye filled with lots of promises of making it up to me, I got ready for bed and went to sleep alone.
* * * * * *
"You're coming tonight, right?"
I held my breath as I debated. To be honest, I didn't want to go to a party with all my friends and spend the night acting like I wasn't miserable.
"I don't know," I stuttered.
"Sweetie," she sighed. "I know it sucks that Glen is stuck in Australia, but he wouldn't want you moping around at home. Have you gone out and done anything Christmassy?"
"I bought his mom an adorable sweater and his dad a new electric drill," I shrugged. I heard her let out a deep sigh.
"Please come tonight," she practically begged. "It'll be a good distraction from Glen being at work. Please? We'll get super drunk and you can send him pictures that will put you on the Naughty List."
After a lot of pestering from Angela and loving pushing from Glen's mom, I decided to go tonight. I changed into my Christmas dress and took time doing my makeup and curling my hair. I walked into Angela's house, instantly hit with Christmas music, voices, and the smell of fresh gingerbread.
"You're here!" She squealed as she ran over to me. I laughed as she wrapped her arms around me. "I am so happy you're here!"
"I can tell considering the fact that I can't breathe."
"Sorry," she giggled as she let me go. "I just. . . I wasn't sure you'd come since Glen is in Australia."
"I'm fine," I brushed off. "Sure, I miss him like crazy. And I can barely sleep. And I rarely feel like eating. And I don't even feel like celebrating without him."
"Which is why you're here," she said, grabbing my hand. "And which is why we are getting you a drink. Lots of drinks."
I rolled my eyes as she dragged me into the kitchen. As hard as I tried to enjoy myself, I couldn't. I just kept picturing my empty apartment and Glen halfway across the world.
Everywhere I looked, I saw couples dancing, laughing, or kissing under the mistletoe. When the pain got too much, I left. I walked into our apartment, not bothering to turn on the lights. I hung up my keys, kicked off my shoes, and started to take off my jacket.
"If you're gonna start undressing, at least let me catch up."
I gasped when the lights flicked on to reveal Glen standing by the Christmas tree.
"Glen!"
He laughed as I ran over to him. He instantly caught me when I jumped into his arms. I grabbed his face and pressed my lips to his. Our lips moved in sync as he held me tightly. As we slowly broke the kiss, Glen gently put me down.
"You're home," I said, my voice breaking as I looked at him through happy tears. "I can't believe you're home."
"I hoped on a plane as early as I could," he explained as he pulled me into his chest. "I couldn't stand the idea of you being all alone on Christmas."
"I love you, Glen."
"I love you, too, Y/N."
He was about to say something else, but I grabbed his face again and pulled him toward me. Glen chuckled as he kissed me back. Our lips moved roughly in sync as we collapsed onto the couch. Once we were sitting, I moved so I was straddling his hips.
"I missed you so much," I moaned between kisses.
"I missed you too, baby."
I broke the kiss, both of us breathing heavily. "Show me," I whispered, leaning my forehead against his. I started to get off his lap, but he grabbed my waist, pulling me back.
"Before we do that," he said, his voice dropping. "There's something I want to give you."
"Christmas is tomorrow," I giggled as I slid my hands up his chest and wrapped my arms around his neck. "The only thing I want right now is you."
"And I want you," he smirked. "But, believe me, you're not going to want to wait for this present."
He stood up with me in his arms. He walked over to the Christmas tree and gently put me down. He paused as he took a step back. My breath got caught in my throat as he knelt down on one knee. "Y/N, you are the love of my life. Nothing I do has meaning if you're not there with me. So, will you be with me for the rest of my career and my life? Y/N, will you marry me?"
"Yes," I said, my voice breaking. Glen smiled up at me as he slipped the ring on my finger. He tossed the ring box onto the couch before standing up and pulling me into his chest. He leaned down and pressed a passionate kiss to my lips.
"Merry Christmas, baby," he whispered.
"Merry Christmas, Glen."

No one cares about how you think being ficto isn't harmful because you're an anti. Your opinion doesn't matter anyways. Antis have done a good job of invading this historically proshipping space. You sure did do a good job at ruining this community. You've only been in this community since July and you've done nothing but indoctrinate children into your fucking cult. There is no safe space for real selfshippers anymore because you've made this community harmful. You can act like you do good by making templates and inbox games and "spreading positivity" (Which, you can't do by wishing death to an entire harmless community, by the way. But you're too stupid to understand the gravity of you hurt.) but you do nothing but spread harm through your posts by gatekeeping. There's no safety in gatekeeping. You've spread more indirect hatred through this community than anyone else ever has. I hope you sleep well at night knowing these victims of abuse you pretend to care about are being hurt because of you. Continue lying about being a victim yourself for internet brownie points. We all just feel so bad for you, an anti with no common sense. We built this community by hand and you've destroyed it. I hope you feel good about yourself knowing you've made all of us feel unsafe.
Go ahead and block me, I don't care. Just know we all want you gone. And whine and cry about how this is harassment, I really don't care at this point. Someone needs to say it to you.
there's so much I could say about this, but since it's Christmas eve, I'm quite tired, and I don't feel like trying to refute all of this gobbledygook, instead I'll just say this;
I just got out of church with my family, and while I am pagan, I had a lovely time at Christmas Eve service. at the end we held candles and sang silent night (which has been my favorite Christmas song since I was a kid, fun fact about me :]), and had a nice time seeing people I havent seen since last year. whether or not you folks out there celebrate Christmas, I hope tomorrow is a good day for you! and if you do, I hope you get all the presents you could ever ask for !!!
do something kind for someone this holiday if you can :) go say something nice in someone's inbox, draw them their selfship, whatever. kindness gets you a long way in life, no matter what other people may think.
have a holly jolly Christmas teeehhehehehe >:D
(also I know I said yesterday I would get out more pride stamps but I didn't have time today to finish the rest of them so instead I'll probably get them out tomorrow as a Christmas treat! :3)
#anyways. fuck off#kindly of course. go be happy this Christmas instead of being the grinchs evil cousin#lachlan talks#lachlan rambles

(i will post a small epilogue tomorrow)
"Hey, Natalie? You got a minute?"
Looking up from sorting the papers on her father's desk, Natalie saw Max in the office doorway. It hit her again that this was now his office and she was relieved that the pang in her chest wasn't as sharp this time. "Yeah, sure," she said, standing. "What's up?"
He waved at her to sit back down and stepped inside. The apron he wore made him look a little odd in her opinion, though she knew she would get used to seeing him wearing one. She knew that he and Eve were technically living in town now. Oscar had told her there were just a few things left at their place in Fairview to bring down. Now that he wasn't going back and forth, Max had begun coming to the bakery every day. And though it had felt weird, having him standing next to her while she prepped croissant dough for the next morning, over the past week she had come to enjoy his company. He fit right in, the customers liked him, and he knew nearly as much as her father did about baking. He was as likeable, with a bit of sarcasm in some of his quips, and she had seen him work enough in the past week to know that he was a perfectionist.
"Is everything okay?" she asked when he sighed and shoved his hands into the pockets of his apron. An instant later he was pulling his hands out and fiddling with the snow globe on the edge of the desk.
"Yeah, no, everything is fine," he said with a quick smile. "I just wanted to…"
He sighed again, and Natalie frowned. "What, Max?"
"You know Eve's pregnant?" he asked, picking up the snow globe.
"She is? I didn't know. Congratulations," she said, grinning.
"Thanks." He grinned as well, reminding her that he was a devoted father. "We're not telling everyone yet because it's early, but… " His grin only widened. Turning the snow globe in his hand, he tipped it until the glitter and fake snow inside collected at the top. "We're pretty excited."
"New town, new house, new business, new kids… You two just have to go the extra mile, huh?"
"No kidding," he chuckled. He held the snow globe upright, watching the snow and glitter swirl. "Anyway, she won't be able to help out for long. Her pregnancy with Lucas wasn't easy and she was put on bedrest. I'm not saying that's gonna happen this time around, but we're gonna need to be careful, you know?"
"Yeah."
"And I'm still learning my way around here," he went on, setting the snow globe back down. I know Mark's only a phone call away and unless I've got him wrong, he'll show up at least every other day, but…"
"You don't want to bother him," she guessed, warming to him even more.
"Exactly. And, um, you know this place better than I do."
"Not really."
"You do, Natalie. And you've done a damned good job. Mark told me he couldn't have kept everything going these past few weeks without you." Max sighed again. "What I'm saying is…"
Natalie waited for him to either gather his courage or his thoughts. Looking down at the paper in her hand, she wondered if her father needed a receipt from an order he'd placed six years before. Knowing him, he would want to hold onto it just in case. She leaned to set it in the stack of receipts that she would later work to organize by date and then find the spot in the filing cabinet for them.
"Would you consider staying on?" Max asked.
"Staying on?" she echoed.
"At least part-time. Until after the babies are born and Eve can get back to work."
"That's a year from now," she murmured.
"Yeah, at least," he sighed. "I don't know what your plans are after Mark's surgery, but if you're gonna stay in town, I'd love for you to keep working here."
"I—" Natalie faltered. She thought of the voicemail she had saved on her phone from Katie in Atlanta. Katie, who'd emailed her photos of a cute apartment with a nice view. Katie, who'd offered her a bonus to assist her in her move. Katie, who she hadn't called because she was still warring with herself over whether she wanted to accept the job. She both did and did not.
"You're good at this. You're great at baking. You'd be a huge help. I'm not trying to guilt you, but I know Mark would rest a little easier knowing you were here. Hell, I'd be a little easier knowing you were here. And I think the people that come in here every day would be less upset about me taking over if they knew a Webber would still be in the shop." He cleared his throat and pulled a slip of paper from his pocket. "I sat up late last night doing some figuring, and this is what I can offer for pay and benefits."
She took it, looking at the neatly written figures. "Can I think about it?"
"Sure. Just let me know in a couple days, because if you don't want the job, I'll have to look into hiring someone else."
She nodded. "I'll let you know tomorrow."
"Great." He smiled and turned to leave the office. "We're still on for tomorrow night?"
"Yep." It had been her father's idea to have a Christmas Eve party and invite a few people over. Nothing fancy, mainly finger foods and treats and Mark's special Santa's Whiskers cookies, hot cocoa and coffee and eggnog, Christmas cartoons and carols. When she had left the house he had been at the kitchen table, making lists of what he needed to get done. It had given him a new sense of purpose, especially when Max and his family, her friends and their partners and kids, and Oscar had said they would come.
"Perfect, you can just tell me tomorrow night, then," he said before leaving.
Turning back to the papers, she began to sort, softly humming along to the music Max had playing in the kitchen.
The bakery was moving into good hands, she thought, smiling when she heard Eve's laugh as Max began to sing along with Nat King Cole. It would forever hold memories for her, both good and bad, but she now accepted that it was time for a new set of memories. Lucas would no doubt picture his father at the counter, grinning and offering him a cookie. Grace would soon learn all the nooks and crannies where she could tuck herself away to read or play quietly. Max and Eve would love the building and everything in it. Maybe not as much as her father did, at least at first, but they would with time. And their obvious love would keep customers coming.
She picked up the slip of paper Max had given her and read it over again after she had sorted all the papers in the desk. It was a generous offer. Not as much as she would make in Atlanta, but… The cost of living here was a lot lower.
Another tick in her mental pros and cons list.
After storing the keep pile and tucking the questionable pile into a large envelope, she glanced around the office. Her father had already taken out the things he wanted at home. A few photos, gifts customers had given him over the years.
She turned slowly to look at the hook on the wall, expecting to see her mother's apron where it had always been. The hook was empty and the air left her lungs in a shaky exhale. Had he taken it home? She hadn't seen it in the box of stuff she'd carried inside from his truck. She reached for her phone to call him and ask him, then remembered he was busy in the kitchen. He wouldn't answer, if he even had his phone on him. She could wait until she got home and ask him.
Stepping out of the office, she spotted Eve heading out the back door and stopped her. "Did you see the red apron hanging in the office?"
"The one with flour?" Eve asked.
Natalie nodded, a bundle of panic forming in her gut. "Yeah. I-it was Mom's."
Eve's expression softened. "I didn't know. When Mark was here this morning he took it down."
The panic fled and she let out a soft sigh. "He took it home?"
"Yeah. I offered to just throw it in the laundry but he said no." The woman's eyes flashed with sadness. "I hope I didn't upset him."
"You didn't, I promise. He told me once it would hang there until the place was no longer his."
"That's beautiful." Eve smiled sadly. "I wonder if…"
Her gaze drifted to her husband and Natalie knew what she was wondering. She doubted she should comment, since she didn't know them intimately, but she was already starting to nod. "Yes."
"You think so?"
"I know so."
Penny cautiously circled the room, nose pressed to the floor. Her tail wagged slowly as she explored, occasionally snorting, and when she reached Oscar's boot she stopped, head tipping in confusion. Then, with a snort, she moved by him and slipped into the next room. It was the kitchen, and all Oscar could smell when he followed was the faint aroma of fresh paint, but she showed keen interest in all corners and especially in front of the stove. The dog circled the room again, tail wagging faster, and after giving a quick bark she trotted into the little utility room, tail banging against the washer and dryer. After a moment she was back, tongue lolling happily, and stopped in front of him.
"What do you think?" Oscar asked.
"I think I've seen a many things in my life, but I've never seen somebody need a dog's opinion before deciding to buy a house," Carlos said.
Oscar chuckled. "It's gonna be her home, too, if I buy it."
"You still don't know?" Carlos looked up from his phone.
Sighing, he looked around the kitchen. It was small, and the cabinets would need replacing. He had no idea if the L-shaped counter was enough space, or if the spot near the window would hold a table and chairs. He closed his eyes for a moment then looked again, imagining the things he would like to do. Turning, he did the same to the living room and thought of the two bedrooms and little bathroom. Nodding to himself, he leaned down to clip Penny's leash to her collar. She groaned lightly, still unused to it, perking up when he offered her a treat.
"I think I do," he said finally. But still he hesitated, Natalie's words the night before echoing in his mind.
With the bonus they're offering I could hire someone to help Dad out around the house.
It seemed she was leaning closer to moving to Atlanta, despite her whispers that she needed him.
He thought of the offer his father had given him. Back home, he would be close to his parents. Not that they needed him nearby. They seemed more energetic now than they had when he was a child. And even if they did need one of their children near, one of his sisters lived two houses down. But he would be close to home, even if it hadn't felt like home since his grandmother had died, and he would have steady work, even if it did feel like a nepotistic handout.
"I'll let you know for sure in a couple days," he told Carlos as they walked outside. Then, realizing the date, he chuckled. "Or maybe the first of the week?"
"You know where to find me," Carlos told him with a grin. "Or let me know at Mr. Webber's tomorrow?"
Penny buried her nose in the rosebush next to the steps as soon as her feet hit the ground.
"Mr. Wright grew that from a cutting his mother gave him." Carlos watched Penny sniff around the rosebush. "She grew hers from a cutting her mother gave her, and the story was that her grandparents brought he original plan over with them from Scotland."
"Is there one at his sister's?"
"Yes. We have one at home, Sasha was given a cutting when we moved in." Carlos shivered. "Weather's changing."
"Yeah," Oscar agreed, though he had no idea how the man could tell. It was almost warm, the sun peeking out occasionally from clouds that spit pitiful rain every few minutes. "I was hoping for a white Christmas."
"It'll happen." Carlos nodded.
Oscar squinted as the sunlight appeared, as though to prove the prediction wrong. "I'll take your word for it."
Promising to let Carlos know by the first of the week, Oscar opened his truck door. He unhooked Penny's leash after she jumped in, and waited until she had moved to sit on the passenger seat before climbing in. The dog gave a small whine after he started the engine and began to back out of the driveway, and he sighed as the sunlight disappeared and rain began to splatter on the windshield.
"I know, girl," he murmured. As he drove towards Max's house, he wondered if the dog would enjoy his old home.
***
Christmas Eve dawned, cold and cloudy. Natalie shivered when she pulled back the curtain and saw the heavy frost on the ground, sparkling in the early morning light. The sunlight was weak. When she looked up to the sky she could see clouds starting to creep in, and thought of her father's prediction for a heavy snow.
There was music playing in the kitchen when she got downstairs, and the smell of coffee and pancakes and sausage. She slipped around her father to fix her plate, quickly getting out of his way. The counters were covered with ingredients and utensils and the beginnings of his prep work for the food they'd eat that night. She ate her breakfast quickly, almost silently, her father too focused on his different stations to be conversational.
There was a fitful snow starting to fall when she rinsed her dishes and put them in the dishwasher. Unsure what else to do, she pitched in to help her father get cookie dough and pastry dough ready to chill, mainly moving behind him to wash dirtied utensils and wipe off the floured surfaces once he finished. She wasn't needed, she realized when they bumped into each other the third time. At a loss, she finally washed her hands and looked out at the softly floating snowflakes.
"Max offered me a job," she blurted.
Mark stopped chopping pecans. "Did he?"
"At the bakery."
"Doing what?"
"What I've been doing." She paused. "He can offer me a decent pay."
"Do you want to?" he asked carefully.
"I think I do."
"What changed?" There was no hurt in his voice and for that she was glad.
"The bakery doesn't hurt anymore," she admitted. "And it would be part-time, so I could still do writing on the side. Plus, he needs the help."
"He doesn't."
"Eve's not gonna be able to help him out for long." She told him the news, enjoyed the warmth of his surprise and joy for them. One day, she hoped, she would be able to tell him that she would be having a baby and could only imagine his delight. At one point when she had imagined her future children they had been vague, dreamlike figures. When she closed her eyes and thought of them now, they had distinct grins and chocolate brown eyes.
"I thought you were going to Atlanta."
"I thought I was too," she whispered. Opening her eyes, she saw the tiny flakes were growing larger.
"Penny go?"
"Of course Penny's going. Mister Mark would turn us away if we didn't bring her." Max laughed and held up the pair of pants. "Get these on."
"Cookies."
"Not now, you'll ruin your appetite." Max grabbed his son's swinging leg and before Lucas could slip out of his grip he had the pants up to his knees. Then he paused. "…Do you need to pee?"
"Need cookie."
"You want a cookie. You don't need a cookie."
Lucas shook his head. "No want. Need."
Max sighed with defeat and turned to Oscar. "Help."
"Hey, you created him, I'm just the guy that spoils him rotten."
"He's got his mother's sweet tooth. Do you know what he had for breakfast this morning?"
"Yeah, waffles."
"Before that." Max tugged his son's pants up and caught him before he could slide off the bed. "Shoes, Lucas."
Oscar handed over a shoe. "What did he have?"
"Brownies."
Oscar stared at his friend. "You gave him brownies? And you're still alive?"
"Barely," Max muttered. "It's not my fault that he got his mother's pout, too."
"Not to mention your stubborn attitude," Oscar pointed out when Lucas began to crawl across the bed after one shoe had been slipped onto his foot.
"It took me two hours to get my ass out of trouble." Max leaned forward and dragged his son back towards him. "I don't even know if there is a rosebush that grows purple roses naturally."
"There is."
"Thank god." Max slipped the other shoe onto Lucas and stepped back with an exhausted sigh. "Done!"
Lucas slipped off the bed and stood, brow puckering, one hand clutching the edge of his mattress. "Pee."
"You've got to be kidding me." Max dragged a hand over his face. "I just asked—And you said—If I give you a cookie will you go pee in the potty?"
"Cookie!" Lucas squealed as he was scooped up, and his giggles rang in the air while Max hurried into the bathroom. "Cookie for pee!"
Laughing, Oscar pushed himself to his feet. "You're bribing him."
"I'm doing whatever works. I'm trying to get some headway on this before the baby comes."
"That's months away."
"Do you not know how long potty training can take?" Max snorted. Then his voice softened. "You done?"
"Pee."
"Yeah, son, pee. Have you finished peeing?"
"Cookie."
"After you pee."
"Cookie."
"In a minute."
There was absolute silence. Oscar counted along in his head, biting back a laugh as the seconds stretched on. Then, triumphantly, Lucas clapped. "Cookie now!"
"I don't have a cookie right now."
Lucas's long-suffering sigh was audible even to Oscar. "I done."
"I can't do this again," Max announced after helping his son wash his hands. "Grace was easy. He's stubborn as hell and has me wrapped around his finger. He pouts just like Eve and I give him whatever he wants."
"Grace has you wrapped around her finger, too," Oscar told him, following them into the hall.
"You're right," Max chuckled. Swinging Lucas up onto his hip, he headed down the stairs. "You ready to go?"
Oscar opened his mouth to say that he would drive himself, not wanting to be squeezed between the two car seats in the back of Max's SUV. His phone began to vibrate incessantly and he pulled it out, frowning when he saw Mr. Wright's name on the screen. "Yeah, almost. I'll meet you there."
He barely heard Max's reply, turning to go into the guest bedroom to answer the call. "Hello?"
"Oscar?"
"Yes, sir." He frowned, walking over to the window to glance out. It had snowed off and on for most of the day, but not heavily. The grass was covered and there was a soft dusting on the road. Squinting at the streetlamp at the corner of the lot, he couldn't see any evidence of anything falling.
"I just got an offer on the house and unless you want it, I'm gonna let them have it."
He almost asked who, but the man went on.
"Tommy's son is getting married in the spring. His girlfriend lives over in Lakefield and he brought her to take a look at the place this morning. She fell in love with it, and…" Mr. Wright sighed. "Have you made up your mind yet?"
He hadn't. So many things were up in the air at the moment. Drawing in a breath, he hesitated. Mr. Wright didn't rush him, and when he saw Max's car pull out of the drive he squeezed his eyes shut. "I…"
"We shouldn't stay long. It's really coming down."
"You don't have to stay. I'm just glad you stopped by." Natalie took a sip of her cocoa and slipped her arm around Susie's shoulders for a squeeze.
"We'll stay a bit longer. Michael is having so much fun."
Looking over to where the boy sat near the tree. He and Grace were chattering excitedly while building some sort of intricate tower using the building blocks Natalie had given Michael. Next to them was the half-finished page from Grace's new coloring book featuring horses and cowboys. Her gaze moved around the room, looking for Lucas, and she smiled when she saw him leaning to get another cookie from the platter on the coffee table.
Hannah was on the couch, talking animatedly with Amira and Sasha, who accepted Lucas when he crawled into her lap. George was squatting next to Mark's armchair, the two chatting while Lilli danced with Carlos to the song playing. Another glance showed Pato and Amira tucked close to each other, talking with Franco and Ollie and Mrs. Jones, who'd arrived with them. Max and Eve were sipping eggnog and talking to Esteban, who was inexplicably wearing a cowboy hat.
"Do you know Esteban and Max were joking around that Michael and Grace should get married?" Susie grunted. "At least, I hope they were joking."
"Arranged marriage?" Natalie asked with a grin.
"Pretty much." Susie was not amused. "It's so disgusting."
"Misogynistic," Natalie agreed with a nod.
"Oppressing and sexist."
Natalie looked on while Grace jumped to her feet and grabbed Michael's hand. The two walked to the center of the room, giggling, both staring up at the ceiling. Her gaze shifted and she saw the bundle of mistletoe her father had insisted she hang from the light fixture.
"Aww," Susie cooed.
Snapping her attention back to Grace and Michael, Natalie laughed. Michael's lips were pressed to Grace's cheek. She could hear the exaggerated smack of the kiss, and then again when Grace kissed his cheek. Giggling, they skipped back over to the blocks and resumed their play.
Natalie turned to her friend. "Then again, they may have a point."
"Guess I should drag Esteban over for a kiss."
Natalie rolled her eyes. "Like he needs mistletoe to kiss you."
"No, but it's tradition." Susie smoothed the front of her sweater and flicked her hair over her shoulders. "Excuse me."
Shaking her head, she watched Susie move across the room to her husband, who was still chatting with Eve. Max had been with them, and she now saw he had stepped into the dining room. She watched him frown at his phone before slipping it into his pocket, and when he reentered the living room she softly called his name.
"Have you heard from Oscar?" he asked.
"I was about to ask you the same thing." Everyone else had arrived nearly an hour before. She hadn't worried, because he had promised he was coming. He had sent her a text just before Pato and Amira had gotten there, saying he would be a little late. Reaching to pull her phone from the pocket of her jeans, she groaned when she saw it had died.
"I just called him, it's going to voicemail."
"Did his phone die again?" she sighed, setting her mug of cocoa on the mantle and heading into the kitchen. "That happened the night of that bad storm a couple weeks ago."
"Either that or he turned it off. He does that when he's got to think about something."
Plugging up her phone, Natalie drummed her fingers on the counter for the entire three minutes it took for the device to charge enough to power on. It seemed to take twice as long for the Apple logo to appear, and four times as long before the lock screen finally loaded. She unlocked it, then gave the phone time enough to catch any missed calls, voicemails, or texts.
"Anything?" Max asked, looking up from his own phone.
She opened the text she had received and frowned, confused, as she read the words that had been sent more than thirty minutes before.
I'm coming. I've just got to figure a couple things out. I might not be able to get the house. I might take the job with Dad. But I need to know what you're gonna do. I know I shouldn't make life decisions based on just four weeks of knowing someone but I am.
"Well?"
"I've gotta go," she blurted, pushing away from the counter. Max stumbled when she bumped into him, and she muttered a quick apology as she heard his phone hit the floor. Hurrying out of the kitchen, she noticed but didn't really see Esteban and Susie kissing sweetly beneath the mistletoe. It occurred to her as she snatched her coat off the rack that she should tell her father where she was going, but she heard his warm laugh and decided she didn't have time.
The snow was coming down thick and heavy. The street was white and she walked quickly as she could, slightly lightheaded from the snow whirling around her. When she reached the corner of Halifax Street her steps quickened, and she heard the snow crunch beneath her boots as she reached the beautiful Victorian house. Bedecked in lights, trees twinkling through the upstairs windows and the large window downstairs, it positively glowed with warmth. She skidded to a stop, gasping, and saw that Oscar's truck wasn't in the driveway. She looked at the house again. The lights and snow created an aura of merriment and she could almost feel the joy that would fill the house in the coming years.
She wanted that joy for herself.
Where was he? She walked to the driveway to make sure his truck wasn't there. Saw only Eve's car backed up to the garage. Turning, she began to slowly walk back down the street, barely feeling the cold or the snowflakes landing on her cheeks. He was going to leave. She couldn't blame him. Guaranteed work, close to his parents. She didn't want him to stay here just for her, even if she had called Katie that afternoon and told her she wouldn't be taking the job. Even if she had thought of seeing him every day at the bakery while she worked for Max, who'd seemed overjoyed when she had pulled him into the kitchen as soon as he'd arrived to tell him she would stay on. And when she'd confirmed her father's appointment for pre-op bloodwork the next week, she had thought of Oscar's comforting presence while she waited during her father's surgery, and his easygoing company in those first days after her father came back home to recover.
Stopping on the corner, she wiped the mixture of tears and melted snow from her cheeks, groping in her coat pocket for a tissue. Oscar would leave, and she would stay, and every time Max or Eve mentioned him she would think of everything that could have been.
She was about to start walking again when she heard a dog start barking. It was too loud and clear for it to be inside one of the nearby houses, and she glanced around. Turning, she heard the bark again, coming from down Brickyard Avenue. Funny, but it almost sounded like Penny, she thought, finally finding a crumpled tissue to use to wipe her face. The snowfall grew heavier and she sniffled, about to continue on her way home when movement caught her eye.
A small dog coming up the street. It passed below a streetlamp and she saw the green dog sweater. She blinked in surprise as it bounded towards her. "Penny?"
Of course it was Penny. No other dog in town that she had seen had the same coat and coloring. As the dog approached she heard the jingle of her collar. Glad as she was to see the dog, worry pricked through while she squatted to greet Penny with a hug.
"Where's—"
"Natalie!"
There he was. Coming up the street in a jog, breath fogging around him. Penny ran back towards him and Natalie followed, stride lengthening to close the distance. "Where—"
"My truck broke down, I turned my phone off so I could think, and I left it at the house." He stopped, catching her arm when her boots slid on the snow. "I had to run see Mr. Wright."
"What hap—"
"I don't know, I think it's the alternator. I left it out at Mr. Wright's." He drew in a breath. "I bought the house."
"What?" she gasped, grasping the front of his coat.
"I'm staying. I couldn't let someone else get it, because when I took Penny to take a look yesterday she loved it and because I kept seeing things I wanted to do with the house and the land. It's taking all my savings, and I'll have to eat ramen for a year, but I want it. For the first time since I broke up with Lauren I want to own a house." He was breathless, either from excitement or his run. "Mr. Harrell was at Mr. Wright's, and he said he needs someone to do maintenance on his rentals."
Natalie nodded, though he was speaking so fast she could barely keep up.
"I start week after next. Doing what I did for Max and Eve. It's not gonna be easy, but I know I can do it." He paused and swiped snow from his cheeks. "I don't know what you're gonna do, Natalie, but I have to stay here. Yeah, I know I'm falling in love with you, but I fell in love with this town and all the crazy people in it."
"I'm staying," she told him before he could continue. "Max wants me to stay at the bakery, and Dad needs me. And I'll be able to do my writing. I don't know if I'll find anything I can do remotely, but I'll try. If nothing else I'll start a blog or maybe write that book I've wanted to write since I was a kid. I can't leave again, because if I do I know I'd never come back—"
"Thank god," he breathed, pulling her to him.
"What?" she whispered after his lips pressed to her forehead.
"You're staying. And not for me."
"You're a little bit of the reason—"
"You're staying because you love your dad and you love the bakery enough to help it keep going and because you love this little town," he insisted.
"Yeah," she admitted with a small laugh. "I do."
"And I'm staying because I love this little town and I love being close to my idiot friend and I love that little house."
At their feet, Penny barked.
"And I couldn't take her away. She'd never forgive me for taking her away from Mark."
"Neither would he," she said.
"I'm glad you're staying," he murmured. His arms wrapped around her.
"I'm glad you're staying," she returned. Leaning against him, she felt a giddiness rise up within her as his words finally registered in her brain. "And I'm falling in love with you, too."
"Yeah?" He grinned, his beautiful, adorable grin that warmed her heart.
"Yeah," she whispered just as his lips found hers.
She pulled back moments later, a little dizzy and weak, and gazed up at him. "Come on, Dad's gonna get worried when he realizes I left the party. And there's presents waiting for you."
"Presents?"
"Dad got you something. I did, too."
"I think Max brought my gifts with him," he said, keeping one arm around her as they began to walk. He called to Penny, who trotted alongside them until they reached Natalie's street. Then the dog gave a tiny yip and bounded ahead. Oscar laughed, tucking Natalie closer to his side. "What did you get me?"
"I won't tell you everything, but one of them is a phone charger for your truck."
"A charger." He nodded. "Useful."
"You need it."
"I do."
"What did you get me?" she asked, watching Penny jump up the steps and onto the front porch. Her friends' cars and trucks and Max's SUV were still parked out front and she was glad. All those closest to her would be there to celebrate both her news and Oscar's news. Penny began to scratch at the door and she tried to remember if she'd placed a towel near the door to catch snow. The dog would need a good rub down.
"I won't tell you everything," Oscar chuckled. "But one of them is a book."
"A book?"
"Yeah. It'll come in handy, since you're going to keep working at the bakery."
"What is it?" She stopped halfway up the walk, waving to her father when he opened the door. Oscar waved, too. Mark waved back with the towel he was holding, then closed the door after Penny slipped inside the house.
Oscar turned to her, arm slipping around her waist and drawing her close. "A cookbook."
"A cookbook," she repeated, lifting her eyebrows.
"Baking for Dummies."
Before she could give an indignant reaction, he swept her close and kissed her. She laughed against his lips, too full of hope and joy to be outraged by his gift. She heard the front door open again, music and laughter spilling outside.
Pato's voice rang out, disgusted. "What the hell is with you two and standing outside in the cold?!"

“Hey! I’m so fuckin’ sorry! Jeeeeesus, I feel like such an asshole.” Joel is speaking fast and with apologies all tethered to his words. “I’m real sorry. I left my phone n’ keys in my brothers truck after he dropped me off from the bar last night. Feel like a dick. Didn’t get my shit back ‘till just now when he dropped ‘em off t’me.” Joel sighs loudly. “I’m sorry. Hope yer’ not mad at me.” He sounds fretful. Worried.
“No. Not at all. I get it. Shit like that happens.” That does come out of you very casually.
“I got worried as hell when you didn’t text or call. Nothin’. I thought fer’ sure you were gonna think the worst, block my number. Never talk t’me again.” Joel chuckles nervously.
“Nah. I was hanging out–”
“Readin’ yer’ spooky stories?” Joel asks before you can finish and now… you might be in love with him. Fuck.
“Yeah… I was actually.” You smirk against the phone like an idiot.
“You wanna… come read ‘em here? I just watch football on Sunday… but, I wouldn’t be mad if you wanted to just come, I dunno, sit in my lap and hang out. Could smoke, drink a lil.” Joel speaks quietly and almost bashfully. You dunno.
You’ve done worse things in your life behind the wheel of a car, okay? You’re not even drunk. Not even a little. Nope. Feel bad for driving under the influence? Absolutely. But, you’re fine. You took your time packing your lil spend the night bag with your stuff for work tomorrow because he said you should stay the night. Okay. You’re calm and cool. Not overly excited. You brought your laptop so you could comfortably read your ‘spooky stories’ aka real life murders that have taken place. Joel is so cute. Fuck.
When you get to Joel’s house it’s almost two in the afternoon. You guys still have most of the day to spend together and hang out before you have to really go to bed. No more all nighters. Neither of you were children. He’s sitting on his front porch in one of those nice wooden rocking chairs. He has two of them. They’re big and sturdy and look kinda cozy, actually. He is at your door, opening it for you before the truck is even off. He doesn’t let you get out, he runs his hands along your thighs as you turn to face him in an attempt to jump down.
“Sorry.” Joel smiles up at you apologetically and continues moving his hands up and down your legs softly.
“Should be.” You tease him but lean in and give him a small, fast kiss. He hums happily in response and holds his hand out. You go to put your hand in his but he pulls it away with a sucking noise on his teeth. You pinch your brows together at him and he holds his hand out again, saying nothing. You look and he wants the two bags you have in your hand.
“Lemme carry ‘em.” He says after a second you you hesitating. You eye him up and down.
“Why?” You’re not suspicious or anything. You know he’s being a gentleman… you just… dunno. It’s weird.
“Y’serious? Really?” Joel grabs the bags and the gentleman leaves him as he abandons you in the truck and starts towards the house. You roll your eyes and follow him inside. He’s walking upstairs already and you’re chasing him up, touching the backs for his thighs and his ass and he’s swatting your hands away.
“S’no fun, is it?” You tease him and squeeze his ass playfully through his jeans. He jumps and glares at you over his shoulder.
“S’fun when I do it to you.” he grins as you get to the top of the stairs. “Real fun.”
“Oh, I bet it is.” You grin back at him as he walks into his bedroom. He sets your bags on his bed and turns to you.
“Football’s on. Wanna come sit n’ smoke with me while I don’t pay attention?” He asks, chuckling softly.
“Why wouldn’t you be payin’ attention?” You bat your eyelashes at him and smirk.
“‘Cause my team sucks— what do you mean?” Joel gives you his goofy, dumb smile and wraps an arm around your waist. “I am real sorry. Feel bad y’probably waited up fer’ me n’ I didn’t call. I sat here all night just feelin’ bad.” Joel whispers before he kisses you softly. “Don’t wanna make y’sad.”
“I wasn’t sad.” You lie. You lie so hard because you’re not gonna let him know you were sad. You don’t get sad over boys. You already cried once because you thought he went home after he ate you out. No. He won’t know it.
“Well good. I’m glad y’weren’t cryin’ in bed. I don’t want ya doin’ that over me.” He kisses you again softly. You kiss him back but are thinking about a casual way to ask if he’s interested in marrying you really quick. You just wanna know what it feels like to be married to him and then everything can just, go back to normal.
“I was a lil disappointed but, I didn’t let it ruin my night.” You lie again. Joel smiles and kisses your forehead now.
“Good.” Is all he says. “Get yer’ spooky stories n’ lets go smoke n’ I have a bottle of somethin’ downstairs.” He smirks as he walks towards the door but he waits for you. You grab your laptop and follow him down into the living room. He has a nice big, brown suede couch and a matching recliner. An ottoman to put your feet on. A table on either side of the couch. You set your laptop down and follow him into the kitchen just so happy to be here and be with him. You weren’t expecting to see him ever again. So, this is exciting. You’re not trying to hide that. You want him to know you’re happy to see him.
“Did you have a good day yesterday after you dropped me off?” You ask as he grabs a cup and a decently priced bottle of whiskey and sets them next to each other.
“I did. Groceries n’ normal bullshit. Had to get my laundry from the cleaners.” He explains.
“You don’t do your own laundry?” You are slightly entertained by this for some reason.
“Hell no.” Joel shakes his head and grabs ice from the freezer. “Haven’t done laundry since Sarah moved out.” He’s chuckling now as he puts the ice in the glass.
“Did you… make her do your laundry before that?” You squint your eyes at him.
“Hell no.” Joel says again but he laughs now. “I did mine n’ she did her own when she got old enough.” He laughs and pours whiskey into your glass half way and looks at you with a raised eyebrow. “Do you need… a coke or somethin’?” He says it with a wrinkled nose. You laugh at him.
“Are you a whiskey snob? If y’are… I got a good story for ya… it’ll piss ya right off.” You smirk and lean against his counter. “I do want a coke.” You grin. Joel groans loudly and goes back to the fridge.
“Let’s hear this good story, lil girl.” Joel rolls his eyes and doesn’t sound amused already.
“You ever heard of The Reach—” You start but Mr. Miller finishes.
“81? I sure have. Why? Y’know ‘bout it?” He pulls his head back from the fridge and stares at you with heightened eyebrows.
“I do. Have you ever had it?” You ask curiously. Joel shakes his head no but stays quiet. “There is some back at my house– Cody is a huuuuuuge whiskey guy. I had no idea. None. Just thought it was like… expensive, ya know?” You nod at him and he nods back and then frowns before you can finish.
“You put that into a Coke?!” Joel is so upset with you. So hurt, and so disappointed.
“I didn’t know how much it cost!!” You exclaim.
“Almost more than my house!!” Joel almost shouts at you but it’s funny. “Jeeeeesus.” He shakes his head in disappoint again and pours Coke into his semi-expenisve whiskey and groans.
“Oh god. Guys and their shitting on things girls like.” You sip your drink as he rolls his eyes.
“I’d shit on anyone who did that.” Joel grumbles at you but is pulling you into the living room. He sits right beside you on the couch and hands you your laptop. “Let’s see these scary stories you’re talkin’ ‘bout.” He sighs and puts his feet up on the couch. He says it like you ran in here trying to show him this blog. So excited about it. You smirk and open the laptop.
As the screen resumes the last internet browser page you were on… you snap the computer shut and do absolutely nothing else. Nothing. You freeze but you know what he saw. You were looking right at it… with him. So. You both know what you saw. He’s silent. It’s just very quiet minus the TV in the background. Finally, after so long of no talking and not even looking at him or moving, even… the man speaks.
“What…what was that?” He asks very curiously. You’d be curious too, if you were him. You are dead on this couch. The first person to ever die of real embarrassment, honestly. You forgot what you did before you cried yourself to sleep in bed last night. What you used this computer for… You’re going to pass away right now. This is…not happening. No. Can’t be.
There is no way that the last browser you had open on your computer was a fucking porn website. And… porn is so normal, Joel probably would have laughed about it with you but what you had in the search bar… and what you had pulled up on the screen wasn’t alarming or even unnatural. No, not at all. So natural. Two natural bodies. A man and a woman…
The man… might look like Joel… a little bit. And the girl… might look like you… a little bit. The search bar definitely didn’t have the words ‘hot gray fifties man younger girl’ in there. No. It fucking can’t. You are trembling. He’s not going to see the search bar. No. Only you know what you typed in last night but the resemblance between those two actors and yourself and Joel are… uncanny. Honestly. You were… so excited when you found it– kind of nervous because for two seconds you thought Joel made a porn with you while you were sleeping. The two people were not you guys. Looked a lot like you guys though. Just enough differences and also too many fucking similarities for it to not do what you wanted it to do. So, that’s even more annoying. It didn’t even work. You were too upset about being not ghosted. So. You’re dumb and embarrassed.
“Hey, what was that?” Joel asks after what feels like an hour of you just looking at your closed laptop.
“N–”
“Don’t say nothin’.” Joel barely lets you even start. So. He knows.
“What did it look like?” You ask, snapping your head to him now. He has the smallest smile on his face, leaned in trying to see the screen you snapped shut. You wonder right now if Cody would buy you a new laptop if you smashed this one. No. He wouldn’t. He’ll buy himself $125,000 scotch though. So. Cool. You swallow hard.
“Uh… it kinda looked like me?” Joel flicks his eyes between your closed computer and your almost tearful eyes. You’re not crying. Just haven’t blinked in eight minutes.
“That’s crazy you think that.” Is all you can come up with because you’re stunned that this is happening to you right now. Joel shakes his head in bewilderment.
“I know what I saw.” He points to the computer. “Open it.”
“No.”
It’s a standoff… a staring contest… a who can hold their breath the longest competition. You lose and blink first and when you do— Joel takes the computer from you, so quickly. You didn’t think that’s what he was going to do. You freeze and Joel freezes too, his hands are about to open it.
“Do y’wanna show me yer’self or… do I need t’look?” Joel is smirking over at you. It might be less worse if the computer is in his lap and not right in front of you. You can at least not look then, feeling less shame for a moment until he shames you himself.
“Do it.” You whisper, shielding your eyes from the monstrosity that is about to unfold. Nothing bad is going to happen. Nothing. You know this. It’s just going to fucking make him way to happy. Way too happy. Like when you told him your sex toys didn’t do what he did to you. UGH.
“Y’sure?” Joel raises one brow at you.
“I’ll… never open that computer myself.” You speak with no emotion because he’s already doing it. It takes three seconds for the screen to come to life.
There it is. Joel’s fucking body double… railing some fucking twenty five year old. Hard. You turn away. You can’t look and see what he thinks of this. It’s too much. You hear the computer keys click and then the video starts to fucking play. Loudly. It’s…porn sounds. Moaning and skin slapping together. This guy is talking dirty. The girl is calling him daddy… You feel like you could throw up.
“Damn.” Joel whistles after. “I don’t really watch porn but…this is good.” He speaks to the computer, apparently, because you’re facing the complete opposite direction now. You’re thinking about putting your hands over your ears, but Joel wraps his arm around your waist and pulls your back into his chest a little. “Watch it with me.” He whisper.
“I’m too embarrassed to be turned on.” You groan and close your eyes.
“So… we’re not gon’ do nothin’ today. I have self-control. I can teach y’some if y’need me to.” Joel isn’t teasing when he says this. He’s so serious. It for some reasons calms your nerves and also offends you a little bit.
“I have self control.” You roll your eyes but lean into him and put your head on his shoulder and reluctantly watch the screen of your laptop with him.
“Ok.” Joel snorts at you but holds you against him when you try and move away. “Tell me what you like ‘bout the way he fucks her.” Joel whispers into your ear quietly. You snap your head up to him with wide, questioning eyes. “I know why y’picked it… wanna know why y’kept watchin’...” Joel whispers again and his breath in your ear gives you goosebumps. You swallow hard again and watch the screen.
Joel’s twin has your look-a-like on her knees with her chest pressed into the mattress. Her back is arched so dramatically that it looks like it might hurt, regardless, the guy in the video is…hammering into her and she is begging him to make her come and he keeps telling her no. He’s spanking her with some fucking sex thing. You dunno. It honestly looks like something that would come on the handle of a child’s bike. Buncha lil tassles! But!!! This one is leather and all black and he is… spanking her.
“I like all of it.” You shrug your shoulders not wanting to say thing specific because you don’t wanna sound silly or inexperienced. Your answer isn’t enough for him.
“You like how she’s layin’ on the bed?” He asks, holding his hand up to her like you cannot see.
“Yeah, sure.” You nod and shrug your shoulder closest to him. He respires through his nose quickly and then points to how he’s holding on to her hips and slamming into her from behind.
“Do you like that?” He sounds so curious to know if you really did like it, and almost like he knows you didn’t. But you did.
“Yeah. He’s really givin’ it to her.” You whisper this now, because saying it in a regular volume feels dirty. When Joel speaks, he also whispers.
“Do you like how he’s tellin’ her not t’ come?” Joel isn’t looking at the computer anymore, he’s looking right at you and you’re trying not to look at him. You shrug your shoulders and say nothing because that sounds horrible. Being denied a come??? No thanks. You’re good with coming freely whenever you want. “Why dontchya know, lil girl, tell me?” He coos to you softly and sweetly.
“I dunno. Do you like being told not to come?” You do look up at him now and he’s already nodding.”
“Yeah.” Joel smirks a little. “Not always n’ not forever… but yeah.” He speaks in his normal tone again and looks back at the screen. He points with his finger to what the porn star has in his hand. “Do you like that ?” Joel looks back at you now. Emotionless. He doesn’t want you to know if he likes it or not. What a fucking ass.
“I dunno. I’ve never… been spanked befo—” You’re casually explaining your inexperience to him when he cuts you off.
“No one’s ever spanked you? Not even foolin’ around or nothin’?” Joel sounds shocked. You shake your head.
“No, I just… I dunno.” You avoid his eyes.
“S’wrong?” He closes the laptop and suddenly this has turned into a serious conversation.
“Nothin’.” You’re just being shy. This is weird. You hate that he’s probably slept with thousands of women and you… are you. So. You’re feeling intimidated.
“Tell me.” Joel pushes but not angrily or aggressively. He’s trying to figure you out.
“I don’t even know what’s wrong! I’m just embarrassed.” You sink into his couch and rest your head back on his shoulder.
“Of what!?” Joel points to the computer “That? Don’t be. That’s fuckin’ normal. Hot. Guy kinda looked like me, huh?” He says this like it’s supposed to comfort you. “You watch that last night? Missin’ me?” Joel whispers now and still speaks too comfortingly…almost condescendingly, but not quite there. It’s making your lower stomach flutter though. You nod silently. “Awhh ain’t the lil girl real sweet, you come?” He is grinning but whispering and still talking so nice.
“No.” You whisper.
“S’how you wanna get fucked? Or y’watchin’ it ‘cause I told ya I liked it like that?” He asks softly, turning to speak against your forehead.
“Lil of both.” You mewl quietly. Joel lets his head fall back against the couch and he sighs softly. “What’s wrong?” You pull your head off his shoulder and look at him.
“Not one single fuckin’ thing.” Joel chirps happily and pulls you into him tighter. “Go n’ read yer’ scary st— or finish yer’ lil video if ya want.” Joel lifts his head and is grinning at you playfully. “Dirty Bird.” He pinches your side, puts your laptop on the couch beside him and stands up.
“Where ya going?” You watch as he walks towards the kitchen. He holds up his empty beer bottle and then disappears.
Holy fucking shit. You open your laptop and close out of that shit so quickly and open your blog. Oh god. That wasn’t too bad though. Pretty good actually. Kinda hot. You wonder if that’s a normal thing to do. Watch porn with the guy you wanna fuck. You don’t really want him looking at another naked woman… so… you dunno. Might not do it again.
Joel comes back with a joint behind his ear. He’s so fucking hot. Fuck. His jeans and his t-shirt. Shit. He said nothing’s happening tonight… why? You don’t ask. No. Enjoy this. Live in the moment. He sits down practically on top of you and looks at your laptop to see what you’re doing.
“Okay… these are the spooky stories..” He nods his head and reads a couple words and then pulls his head back and looks at you. “That’s– uh.. That’s not spooky, babe. That’s a graphic description of someone bein’ murdered… it looks like.” Joel checks the screen again and then looks back at you. “Yeah.”
“It’s a true crime thing.” You explain. “It tells you al the horrible details of crimes that they normally leave out of the podcasts…” You nod sadly. “I like reading though…so it’s not too bad.” You shrug. Joel is blinking at you.
“Y’wanna know all this shit? It doesn’t make y’sad?” He is confused.
“I mean… sometimes ‘cause, yeah it is sad. It happened though– I dunno if that’s disrespectful but the lady who does this blog is always real nice. There are certain cases she won’t talk about ‘cause the families had said they don’t like when people do stuff like that.” You explain but Joel isn’t swayed.
“Yeah… that’s kinda weird t’exploit someone’s murder.” Joel shrugs his shoulder.
“She doesn’t make money. Those weird podcasters do. Not her though– at least I don’t thin. She’s never gotten a red cent from me. Never asks.” You shrug.
“Eh, I don’t give a shit enough to argue with you ‘bout it.” He shrugs, kisses your cheek and watches the TV. You have to sit with that statement for about three minutes before you decide you also do not give a shit enough to care and don’t fight with him.
Football is… fun? You dunno. Not a real fan. Some of the guys on his TV though are CUTE! What!? Jeeeesus and they’re just running around hitting each other?
“Why don’t they do that all the time?” You ask, holding your hand to the TV. He doesn’t look away from the screen when he answers you.
“Do what?” He is interested in the game. His team must be doing good or something.
“Uhh– the sounds— the player sounds.” You nod and look over at him, ripping your eyes away from those men on the screen.
“What’re y’talkin’ ‘bout? He still doesn’t look at you.
“Okay, so they’re always talking. Blah blah blah– like we aren’t watching the fuckin’ game they’re talking about!? Stupid. Tony Romo’s voice is fucking annoying. I’d rather hear the players!!” You exclaim.
“The players aren’t sayin’ nothing. They’re just gruntin’ n’ talkin’ shi-”Joel stops and looks over at your innocent face.
“It’s better!! Better than Tony fucking Romo. Jesus.” You roll your eyes and go back to your blog.
What a great time for Matt or as you put him in your phone as ‘matt cat cute tattoos’ decided to go ahead and text you. The message– as well as his name– pop up in the corner of your computer and you get a notification ding, a loud one.
Looked cute yesterday. Wyd today?
As soon as you get it, Joel’s entire body stiffens besides you but he says nothing, doesn’t move. Nothing. You don’t know what to do. Bringing this computer into Joel’s home has been nothing but bad— just bad. It was bad at first..then kinda good again…now so bad. So, so bad again. Shit. Joel still doesn’t speak and you don’t know what to say so you just exit out of it– and then sit there.
You watch the TV and the clock on the screen was at fifteen minutes when you looked and it stops so many times. So many times that clock stops and starts and they add time to it again once. It’s not until there are only two minutes left in the quarter that Joel speaks.
“So… who is Matt?” He asks so casually.
“Just a guy from the cat shelter.” You explain innocently.
“Oh, gotchya.” He nods his yeah slowly, you can see him nodding out of the corner of your eye. “He that cute?”
“Oh god.” you put your head in your hands. “I gave him my number yesterday after you dropped me off because I didn’t know if you like– really wanted anything to do with me.. Like actually? Ya know.” You don’t look at Joel because you are too scared. “Kinda the same reason you liked Ava’s picture before we hung out that night.”
“Yeah…I see what yer’ sayin’...” Joel sighs but he sounds like he has more to say. He does. “We had hung out though…” Joel is not looking at you either. You both are just speaking facing the TV on the wall in front of you.
“I know…” You’re shaking and you wonder if he can feel your trembling body literally touching his.
“Did you go see him last night?” Joel asks emotionless and now you turn to look at him because no you didn’t. Didn’t even think to text him because you had already forgotten about Matt. If you had even fucking remembered in your sadness… you might have gone to see him.
“No. I didn’t.” You say so confidently and now he looks at you. “I swear I didn’t.” Your eyes scan all across his face and he stays emotionless, doesn’t smile…nothing.
“Why?” He is still so calm.
“What do you mean?” You’re stunned to say the least. What the fuck? Did he want you to? Is this a trick? You’re so confused and wanna know what the fuck is going on.
“Why didn’t you go see him? I blew you off last night n’ you still didn’t go see him?” Joel asks, now a little curious.
“Blew me off?” You wrinkle your brow at him and he panics for half a second in his eyes and then goes back to being calm.
“Didn’t call or text you.” He defines being blown off to you like you don’t know what the fuck it meant.
“No. I know that… but I don’t think that’s what you meant to say. What happened last night?” You turn it around on him and wait for his response.
“Tell me why you didn’t go see that guy and I will.” He pulls away from you a little and you do it too at the same time and read his face. You dunno. It’s just handsome Fucker.
“No. Did you really forget your keys and phone in your brothers truck last night?” You ask quietly and Joel groans.
Doesn’t matter. You’re off the couch and running up the stairs to get your stuff. He lied to you. Lied right to your fucking face and then continued to fucking lie. Are you kidding!? He’s chasing you, faster and with more desperation this time. You’re flying up the stairs and into his room. You cannot slam the door in his face because its his house and his bedroom so you run in and grab your stuff off the bed but he’s in the doorway when you turn around. Panting.
“Move.” You snap at him but he shakes his head. “Then I think I’m officially being kidnapped or being held hostage and I will fight you off. I will fight you so hard.” You point at him but you will not fight him. He could kidnap you and you’d be fine with it. Unless he was with Ava. Then you’ll just kill him. Skip the fighting part.
“No.” Joel shakes his head again. “Not fuckin’ kidnappin’ you. Grow up.” he snaps at you and is still panting. You roll your eyes.
“Old!” You snap back at him. “Fuckin’--- just old! Fuck!” You are so pissed and do not know what you’re saying.
“Stop it.” Joel waves his hand at you and pinches his brows together.
“No. Tell me what happened.” You bobble your head from side to side and cross your arms over your chest with your bags still in your hand. You purse your lips together tightly.
“Got more drunk at the bar with Tommy than I usually do, n’ he dropped me off. I just fell asleep ‘fore I could call you. Got in bed and had the phone right there in my hand…just passed out.” He sounds ashamed of himself.
"That's same shit excuses the thirty year old's I stopped talking to would use. Awesome.” You roll your eyes and think about what Patti said. You’re not asking him shit and don’t care anymore.
“We had just’ finished a big job the day before– bunch’a guys from work were there.” He shrugs his shoulders.
“Why not just tell me that?” You press your lips together again.
“‘Cause of what you just said. I don’t want you thinkin’ that’s the kinda guy I am.” Joel sighs. "We were just celebratin'. Made good money on that job. Drank more than normal."
“Well… now I think you’re a liar. So, that sucks. You could have just said that to me last night when we were texting. Could have just sent me 'At Bar'... I would have figured it out." You sigh loudly and work up the courage to try and leave even though you don't really wanna. You're gonna though. You’re leaving. Lyin’ aint your flavor baby! You don’t play that shit. No. You can deal with emotionally unavailable. You can deal with distant– love that apparently… but you won’t be lied to.
“I’m not a liar– look.” Joel pulls his phone out and shows you the screen after he pulls up some bullshit. It’s a picture of him and his brother at the bar. Cool. Who cares.
“Okay, I dunno that you came right here after. You were so quick to lie to me.. Which is what I have the real problem with– not you getting drunk. I don’t give a shit about that. I’m not dumb and naive.” You go to push past him through the door but he doesn’t budge.
“C’moon.” He sounds sad but you don’t care.
“No. You’re willing to fuckin’ lie to cover that shit up…something soooo stupid and meaningless. Something I would have been mad about? Yeah I would have. But would have gotten over--- in a couple days! ‘Cause ya were honest with me. Not lying to get me to your house. Ugh. Fuckin’ gross.” You scoff.
“You wanna go home?” Joel asks now in a very firm tone. You don’t. You were having so much fun before stupid Matt. Having fun pretending to watch football and snuggle with him!!
“Not really!! I was having fun!!” You exclaim in frustration.
“So stay!” Joel exclaims in matched frustration. “I just didn’t want you fuckin’ bitchin’ at me ‘bout my drinkin’ with my brother! Sorry!” He is still frustrated.
“Um. No. That sounds stupid.” You roll your eyes at him. "Lie to me to keep me from being upset with you about something?"
“You really think Imma liar?” Joel sounds so hurt now and you see in his eyes that he actually is a little hurt by this.
“Welp, seeing as you lied. Kinda.” You huff angrily. Joel rolls his eyes. That’s the straw on the camel's back right there. “Fuck you. How are you going to be annoyed? I told you the truth!” You snap at him.
“Fuck you, too!” Joel snaps back for… no reason. Just said it to say it. It’s kind of cute but also incredibly annoying. “How do I know yer’ not lyin’ ‘bout going to see that guy. You lied to me about being a virgin that first night... told me ya weren't... why?” Joel flicks his eyebrows up to you.
“BECAUSE I WAS ASHAMED!!?? DIDN'T THINK YOU'D WANNA SEE ME AGAIN IF I TOLD YOU!!??” You shout. Joel's shouting is much different from yours. Very loud. Much louder and deeper and bellowing.
“SO WAS I!! SAME REASON!!” Joel shakes clenches his jaw tight. "I’m fuckin’ ashamed I got that drunk." Joel exclaims at you in frustration-- much softer now though. but then he just groans before he speaks again. "Fuuuuck. I hate this shit. Stupid shit.” Joel throws his hands up in the air and huffs. “I’m goin’ to watch football.” And then he marches his stupid ass right downstairs. You flick him off for two full minutes now that he is out of sight. He is kinda right. Sonofabitch. You hate when men are right. Hate it. You don’t even wanna go back downstairs. But you do. Joel is sitting where he had been before and doesn’t look at you when you come down– with no bags. You feel so uncomfortable.
“Do you want me to stay?” You grumble. Joel snorts.
“Do you want to?” He scoffs at you softly still looking at the TV.
“If you’re going to talk to me like that, no.” You roll your eyes. Joel flicks his head to you now, with soft eyes and small smirk... and pats his lap. “What?” You're confused.
“C’moon.” Joel nods you over to him.
“You want me to come…sit on your lap?” You raise one eyebrow at him suspiciously. He silently nods. Then he beckons you again with another patting of his muscular thigh with his fucking big, strong, stupid hands. You say nothing and don’t even look at him as you shuffle to him. He holds your waist and sits you down on to him. The back of your thighs is right on top of his and you’re more on the couch than in his lap. He looks down at you and smirks.
“I won’t lie t’ya anymore. I’m real sorry. Didn’t wanna look like n’ ass. N’ I did anyway.” He runs strong hand across your legs softly and scans your face. “N’ I believe y’didn’t go see that Matt fucker.” He grumbles his name and makes you chuckle. “Why’d ya think I wouldn’t want nothin’ t’do withya?” He’s somehow leaned in and now only inches from your face. How did this happen?
“I dunno– you’re kind of established n’ I’m not.” You whisper softly. “N’ I thought maybe all you wanted was... the only thing I got to offer.” You chuckle but there are other emotions brewing inside you. Shit. You’re not gonna cry. No. You will not.
“Stupid.” Joel leans in and kisses you softly, his tongue flicks across your bottom lip but doesn’t enter your mouth or do anything else. You whine softly when he pulls away. “Football.” He nods his head to the TV.
Fuck. He does have self control.
Joel leads you upstairs for bed later after locking all the doors and windows, checking the thermostat and making sure all the blinds were shut. You cant help but wonder if he does it ever night as a cute lil routine and now you are in love with him. No you’re not. Stop doing that. No. He’s a man and just regular. You keep telling yourself that as he walks you into his bedroom and pulls his shirt off over his head and tosses it in the hamper.
“You got pjs or do you need something?” he asks, knowing you have a bag of clothes… he carried it in.
“I have —” You’re trying so hard not to smile at him for no reason as he grabs a t-shirt from his dresser and tosses it on to the bed near where you’re standing.
“You could use that if you wanted.” He’s being so serious. If he’s being cute and flirting he isn’t showing it as he works on his belt. Your body jolts into gear when you become fully aware that you’re just standing there staring at him. You pull your own shirt off and unclasp your bra around the back and let it slide down your shoulders and arms. You half expect Joel to be staring at you stupidly like an idiot, but he just walks behind you, brings his rough, strong calloused hand to your waist, squeezes softly and walks into the bathroom.
You throw on his t-shirt and pull your shorts off and walk into the bathroom with your toothbrush feeling…so silly for some reason. You shouldn’t!! He wants you here. Gave you the stupid shirt without you asking. He knew you wanted it. Or he wanted you to have it… which was even cuter and made you even more nervous and feel even sillier.
Joel hands you toothpaste as you stand in front of the vanity mirror. It’s a good mirror. You’re thinking about how good it would be to sit on the sink and pick at your face in this fucking thing while you brush your teeth. You might if you ever get an opportunity. You brush real good and follow Joel back into the bedroom, he waits for you at the door of the bathroom and extends his hand to you. To walk to his bed. Six feet away. You do not give one single fucking shit. He could hold your hand into the zombie apocalypse if he wanted. You’d let him lead you right into that shit. Fuck.
He pulls the sheets back for you and walks around the bed as you crawl in.
“Hey.” He growls once he’s in bed. You’re so far away from him. There could be three more people in here.
“Hi.” You have to speak with your real talking voice to make him hear you.
“You could come closer.” He chuckles softly.
“Why is it so big!?” You smirk at him as you have to take several hands and knees over to him.
“I’m a big guy.” Joel shrugs.
“Not this big!” You snuggle right up into him and now there is… still an entire queen sized bed left over where you had just crawled from. You giggle excitedly and wiggle around beside him. He is warm and perfect and smells like Joel and this is exciting. You're so happy to be here.
“What’re you wormin’ around fer?” Joel looks down at you, smirking.
“I dunno. Just happy to be here, I think. Got the sillies or something.” You giggle up to him. “Do you not get in bed and get all excited to be in bed n’ snuggly next to someone??” You look up and him and suddenly feel kinda dumb but he doesn’t let you for long as he wriggles down beside you and wraps you up in his arms.
“ Shiiit… no. I’m a grown man.” He sounds offended that you’d ask him that. “But you can squirm n’ worm all around next to me whenever ya’ want..” Joel chuckles and kisses the top of your head.
“I got a cat yesterday. S’why I was at the cat shelter.” You whisper up to him. “Her name is Agatha Christie.” You add quickly after a second of silence. Joel tries and fails to stifle his laughter.
“What!? Did you pick that name out? Poor cat.” He’s still laughing and jostling your whole body around as he laughs heartily. “Why’d ya get a cat?”
“I’ve wanted one for a while.” You snap at him. “And her name is good!! I like spooky stuff… Agatha Christie wrote creepy detective books!! Death on the Nile!! So good!” You’re semi offended. Joel rubs his hand all along your back and shoulders. You're running your hand all across his soft n' smooth stomach except for a lil trail of hair that leads down into his boxers. He's so soft n' pudgy but firm and tight at the same time. You wanna run your tongue all along him. Shit. Talking about cats. Fuck. Okay.
“Issa good name fer’ you. Yeah, yer’ right.” Joel is still chuckling.
“I didn’t even name her that!” You poke him in the sides and he grabs your wrist gently.
“I’ll spank you into next week. Don’t.” He growls it.
“Next week? For a poke? Seems excessive…” You roll your eyes at him but, you want him to. Want to poke his soft and pudgy and perfect tummy. It's calling for you.
“Don’t…” Joel is warning you.
“Are you super ticklish?” You’re not going to tickle him…because you don’t like being tickled. Hate it even though it...tickles and makes you laugh.
“Just don’t.” He sighs loudly and lets your wrist go. It was never tight to begin with. You just like him holding onto you.
“Fine.” You feign annoyance as you kiss his shoulder softly. He sighs softer now and rubs your back gently again.
“Roll over.” Joel whispers quietly. You do exactly as he says and might never question him ever again. He molds himself into your back and ass and his legs are pressed into yours. He is engulfing you. His mouth is right beside your ear now. “Glad you stayed.” He murmurs softly.
“Me too.” You breathe out softly.
“I’m gon’ tease both of us a lil now, don’t get too worked up, ‘kay Cricket?” He snickers so softly in your ear as he pushes his groin into your ass softly. “Love teasin’...” He keeps speaking as he grinds against you. “Feels fuckin’ good, don’t it?” His voice is so soft and if his cock wasn’t getting hard against you, you’d fall asleep he’s so calm and soothing.
“Yeah…” You sigh because it’s all you can do. His hand is moving all across your stomach and down between your legs for… milliseconds. It makes you groan and him chuckle each time. His strong fingers pinch and tug at your nipples softer than the first time he touched them.
“You like this? Want me t’stop?” He kisses behind you ear gently and then breathes out against you as he works his cock into the V between your closed legs and pussy. “Shit.” Joel chokes it back and pushes into you harder. You can feel his searing hot length against the skin of your inner thighs and through the fabric of your panties. “I gotta stop.” He chuckles but does not.
“Keep going.” You whisper to him and pause for a moment. “Please?” You really want him to keep going…you’re not really sure why. It doesn’t feel like much of anything to you other than something hot and hard between your legs. “Don’t stop… Mr. Miller.” You bite your bottom lip and cringe and how awkward you are and then Joel reacts to this.
“Jesus fucking Christ.” He spits the words out and pulls you back against him even tighter, his forearm between your breasts and now his hand is around your neck softly, he’s breathing into your ear. “What did you say?” He whispers but there is force behind this whisper.
“Please don’t stop, Mr. Miller.” You whimper softly as his hand tightens around your throat. “I’m sorry?" You’re kinda scared because this giant man has his hand around your throat… but is still doing whatever it is he’s doing between your legs. Fucking your thighs? Dunno. He’s still doing that but faster now. And choking you moderately.
“Fuckin’ naughty, lil girl.” His voice is so deep, fuck. Okay. Is he mad?
“Do you really like that?” You ask nervously but his body is already telling you that he does… his voice is saying.. Maybe? His hand leaves your throat and his body stops moving against yours.
“What’d I do?” he holds his hands up and freezes. You look at him over your shoulder and he’s panting, sweating a little, but looking at you fearfully. “M’sorry fer’ whatever it was…”
“What? You didn’t do anything..” You blink at him. He blinks back at you.
“Huh? Then what’re you talkin’ ‘bout ‘cause I love all that.” Joel sighs softly and relaxes.
“Me calling you Mr. Miller?” You raise your eyebrow at him. Joel snorts and lays back in bed.
“Uh…yeah. I fuckin’ do.” Joel shakes his head. “S’fuckin’... I dunno. I dunno why I like it. Yer’ the first woman t’ever call me that in bed...damn... I liked it though fer' some reason.” Joel sighs loudly. “Sorry. I ain’t mean fer’ it t’go that far. I snuck right outta my boxers.” He rubs the sweat off his forehead and looks over at you. “Y’like all that?”
“You weren’t mad at me?” You’re still blinking a little. Joel looks like he’s replaying the last four minutes in his head to think if you did something to make him mad.
“No.” He says after a moment and then looks over at you. “What’d I do t’make y’think that?”
“Uh… choked me? Sounded real mad?” You gawk at him.
“Didn’t like bein’ choked?”
“Well now that I know you’re not mad at me… I think I did? I dunno. Let’s do it again.” You suggest eagerly but he just laughs.
“Nah, ‘cause then it wouldn’t be teasin’.” Joel shrugs his shoulders.
“That is terrible.” You groan. “Don’t like teasing.” You whine and then face the other way again, annoyed.
“Lose yer’ attitude, lil Bird.” Joel spanks your ass softly over the blankets. “T’cute to be all ‘tudinal.”
“I thought you liked a bratty lil girl.” You mock him gently and smirk, getting comfortable in the bed next to him.
He chuckles beside you and rubs the fat of your ass over the blankets now. “Yeah… I do.” Joel sighs loudly and rolls back over to be behind you again. “Goin’ t’sleep now, really.” Joel kisses behind your ear and the the back of your shoulder and the top of your head. His arm drapes over your side and then it’s quiet.
You’re too excited to sleep!? What!? Why did you not feel this way the last two times? You slept fine. Mr. Miller!! This sonofabitch gets you all horny for thigh fucking and then is sleeping behind you first? Unfair. Not cool. Okay….without that real loud fan from your place…his snoring is kinda loud. Real loud. Right in your ear loud. Is he being so fucking for real right now? This has to be a joke.
No.
He is so fucking for real. And the man…sleeps like he might be dead. If it wasn’t for the snoring…you’d think he was how he reacted to literally nothing you did. He had to be faking and pretending. You eventually weasel your way back across this football field sized bed and…the snoring isn’t too bad over here. Still kinda loud. You’ll be fine. You’ve slept through worse. Fighting parents (screaming dad) all night sometimes. This is nothin’.
It was not nothing.

"It's getting late, Nene. We can't wait for him all the time."
Mizuki put their hand on Nene's shoulder. They looked at her with sad eyes. It's been a day since Rui mysterious call and they still didn't receive even a sign from him. There wasn't any news in The City either. Nene was irritated. She couldn't do anything. Just like this memorable time... What if something happened to him? The helplessness isn't helping her neither. If she only talked with him in the right time...
"Then go ahead, Akiyama", Nene sighed. "I still have some work to get done, so don't worry about me."
"No way, you need some rest more than me."
"I'm not this tired."
"Don't say that, you sure are. Leave it to me for once, Nene." Mizuki smiled, trying to reassure her. Even though, they don't like to work with the papers, they still would do that to give her some rest.
"I don't wanna trouble you, I'll do that...", Nene dismisses quickly.
"I'll do that. It's my work after all."
Nene and Mizuki turned to the source of the familiar chuckle.
He's back...
"Rui!", they said in the same time.
"Didn't I say?", Mizuki smiled victoriously as they looked at Nene. "Nothing can kill this man."
"I'm glad you came back", Nene smiled shyly. "But next time say something before you go out."
Rui rolled his eyes at this.
"Fufu~! Someone was worried about me!", he said jokingly.
"Not worried but you could at least told us where you're going!", Nene said.
"Okay, okay... My bad."
Someone says that meeting is special when you are with people that are important to you.
And Rui must say that these meetings are the most valuable to hold in his heart for ever.
***
Tsukasa looked through the window at the snowy landscape behind it.
It reminds him of these shows they used to do in the Phoenix Wonderland.
Lovely years, if you ask him.
It also reminds him of the last Christmas he has with them.
He sat next to him and he felt like the happiest man in the whole world.
He remembers the way he sat to the piano. How he looked through the sheets to look for the good one. How they all sang Christmas carols.
Now he shares this with Saki and Emu's family.
Maybe Emu doesn't like to speak about that, but he knows she feels this too.
They don't leave a one empty plate - they leave two.
For Nene and Rui.
Everyone don't know what's going on with that and they don't even try to ask about that neither.
Maybe it's better this way.
