Hello!! how are you ?
I miss your post about Tommy and Grace.
I wanted to ask you about a scene from S2. Tommy has sex with May, and they seem to have a good time, especially May...well yeah..😏 But then we see that when Tommy arrives at the office, the first thing he does is call Grace, when before we see that he tries to forget her. I wonder what was going through his mind?. Two years thinking about her, every day, and he only slept with prostitutes. He knows May, and he likes her, but does being with her make him miss Grace more? Maybe he realize that no one is going to make him feel the way Grace makes him feel.
What do you think of that scene?
Hello, love! I'm so sorry it took me so long to get to your ask. I'm just soo fucking devastated by Matthew Perry's death and so shattered to hear that.
Well, back to business. I think that Tommy really REALLY didn't want to let Grace go and forget about her (nothing has changed since then btw). And every step towards May is a step away from Grace. He still hopes the happy future with her, which he's dreamed of for so long, is not completely lost. It's like a beacon for him and he's not ready to give up this hope. He's very emotional attached to Grace and this is not something that happens to him often. Because she represents redemption and he still hopes that he can have a normal, quiet life if he is with her. And when Polly says "maybe it's time you forgot about her" it hurts, because deep down he knows he should move on and Polly is right, but he just doesn't want to. I think, he wants to escape the pain of the truth, so bending Lizzie over a desk seems a quite good solution to stop his racing thoughts by using physical activity as some sort of distraction. Sex has always been one of his main coping mechanisms. Lizzie, May, Tatiana, prostitutes... It never seemed to me like he was making love to them, the way that shows he actually wants to love and not just fuck them (especially considering his previous bad experience, when he allowed himself to let someone close to his heart and even dared to think that he could be loved. But it wasn't a mistake to do so, cos' Grace really loved him, he just didn't know it for sure yet). He always uses women and some of them don't mind though, but this is not a good thing at all.
p.s. I also think that if Grace hadn't showed up to tell him about her pregnancy, Tommy would've let her sail and tried to move on. But this thought crosses the path of my opinion about the writing, because since s2 Grace was never again a character with her own arc and used only as a plot tool (read: heir producer and the gangster's dead wife who should put the main male character through an endless circle of suffering).

What would you think Tommy's reaction would be if..... At the end of S3, when Michael goes to save Charlie, he hears noises and goes to another room and finds Grace, alive, she had been kidnapped by the priest,Tatiana, and the Russians, because they wanted Tommy to continue working for them, were going to use Grace to force him. But they didn't know about Michael's plan: he was going to kill the priest.
Then Tommy calls from the cabin to talk to Charlie, and that's when Ada tells him Grace is alive, the reaction is shock and he also cries as happened in the show, after listening to Charlie, he cries. He arrives at the house, he asks Ada where they are? Ada tells him they are both upstairs, in the room, Tommy runs, opens the door and.....
What would his reaction be?
We only have our imagination left my dear friend.🤣
This is an interesting concept.
Sorry if I couldn't properly respond, and I know I'm constantly saying this but I wish Grace had been kept alive. There is a lot of things the writers could have done with her. I found her to be extremely interesting in Season 1 and I'm just sad she ends up reduced to being Tommy's wife.

Thank you for this sweet piece...If only...
I just wrote this, what would have happened if Grace survived:
That night there was a doctor in the middle of the crowd, and they took her to a hotel room, there he removed the bullet, treated her and gave her painkillers. A few hours passed, she sleeping, and we see Tommy who didn't leave her side, lying next to her, and he didn't stop looking at her for a second. They knock on the door, it's Polly. Tommy opens the door, she walks in and they start talking.
Polly: Tommy, Ada is in the house with Charlie, he is sleeping, and the Peaky are watching the house. Tommy: Thanks Polly. Poll: How is she? Tommy: ok, she's been sleeping, they gave her a painkiller.
He looks at her, and tears come to his eyes Tommy: If something happens to her, Poll, I don't know what I would do. Polly grabs his arm. Polly: nothing happened to her, she's fine, and now they're going to be taking care of her, until this war ends. Grace wakes up. Grace: Tommy? where is Charlie? Tommy runs to her side, hugs her, Tommy: he's fine, he's with Ada. They bring him tomorrow. Grace: tomorrow? but what happened? She looks at her shoulder, where she was shot. Tommy: Grace calm down, you have to rest now, you lost blood, everything will be fine. Polly watches them, and then opens the door and leaves, realizing that they need privacy. Grace hugs Tommy and goes back to sleep.
A month has passed.
Grace is almost recovered, she is in the room with Charlie. Tommy has been in the house with them the whole time, he works from the home office. He's sitting in his chair, Grace walks in.
Grace: am I interrupting? Tommy when he sees her, he smiles at her. Tommy: of course not, is everything okay? Grace: yes, I just wanted to be with my husband for a while. They both smile. Tommy: Come here. Grace walks over to Tommy, and she sits on top of him and they kiss. Tommy starts stroking her face. Tommy: Michael told me that donations for the foundation are up, it's going pretty well. Grace: um and it only took a near tragedy, it would have gone higher if I had died. Tommy : Grace don't say that again. Grace smiles. Grace: I'm sorry.
She kisses him. Tommy closes his eyes and grabs her face, keeps kissing her, and doesn't want to let her go.

not the point of this post
tommy leaves his family in the end, because he believes he's dying and doesn't want them to see him 'crawl and grow insane', that is a different thing than his father skedaddling because the grass was greener over there. it's a complicated choice and i don't think it's entirely fair to anyone involved, but it's simply not the same as sr abandoning them, because he just kinda felt like it back in the day, and then rolling back into town 10 years later because he needed some cash ... and then disappearing again ...
in general, the show carefully establishes parallels between tommy and his mother: the mental decline and how she used to scare them when the shelby siblings were children, even tommy's journey to save ruby is built upon this - of course, the curse isn't real, and little ruby was merely sick with a common illness that just had a high mortality rate - but tommy needed something to work against, because the idea that anything is outside the realm of his control is a traumatizing state to be in; the context of s6 makes it even worse
i'm not saying he didn't fail the people he loved (but also are we ever going to talk about he was failed or -- ?) or that he shouldn't make amends with charlie at least who still remains to him (and fair enough, charlie likely feels abandoned), but as i said not the point of the original post: i was just pointing out an interesting narrative juxtaposition between two characters, the wildly contradicting nature of these (father and wife) and what they represent for tommy as such, no value judgment at all being made originally
anyway. i think sr's "quite something you've become" - neither meant to be praise nor condemnation, but an observation that he knows will affect tommy, because despite being baffled by how much he changed from what he remembered, he does know him - ends up reverberating in the scene where tommy beats the ira man to death in front of grace. "now you've seen me", what he's become is something grace now witnesses - and if his father represents the murky, dark past tommy wants to leave behind, grace could represent the hopeful future where that past shouldn't matter at all anymore - but he doesn't receive judgment, but recognition and it that moment it makes all the difference; simultaneously it effects the cut from the family as well

I find the huge parallels between tommygrace and tommyalfie fascinating and terrifying.
Sometimes I like to imagine that SK wasn't a lazy piece of shit and that he did justice to the enormous potential Grace had, letting her live and meet Alfie. Fuck, we would have seen Tommy have a bi panic and, subsequently, one of the best OT3.

Hii! how are you? Since you are a fan of Tommy x Lizzie, could you explain to me what the point of that relationship is? Because I'm watching the show again, and I still don't understand how they started having sex again, for 3 seasons there isn't a single scene that indicates that Tommy has feelings for her, it was always his love for Grace. So the next episode after she dies, he starts having sex with her, and she's happy to tell everyone that they have sex, it seemed out of character to me, like it's something that Tommy wouldn't even think about, since he always sees her as prostitute, even when are they married. Thank you!
Hello! I'm okay, just busy with irl stuff and work. How about you?
To be honest, I wouldn't really consider myself to be "shipping" Tommy x Lizzie. I find their relationship to be interesting, but in the sense of, "Wow this is really sad and tragic. Both are deeply flawed individuals that made a lot of mistakes and are currently stuck with each other." I don't actually see it as romance.
For Tommy: He has only ever loved Grace. He never truly fell in love with Lizzie. I think he still has sex with Lizzie because like you said, he sees her as a prostitute, even when she's left that life behind.
For Lizzie: It's unrequited love from her side. She loves Tommy and stuck with him no matter what. Even when he doesn't treat her well, she still stays with him, probably continously naively hoping he will reciprocate, but he'll never be over Grace.
Sorry if this wasn't a really a good answer to your question.
