Tommy(opens his door to see Chimney):...Chim! Chimney: I'm here purely on business, Tommy, as a representative of Firehouse 118, as well as Maddie Buckley. Tommy: What? Chimney: Word is, that you've started dating one Evan Buckley. Tommy: I have - am - yes. Chimney: OK, then. [Chimney lifts up a large, FULL binder and presents it to Tommy]...Here's everything you need to know. Allergies, likes, dislikes, unhealthy hang-ups, what to do when he gets in his "Sad Puppy" Mood, how to handle him in his "Excited Zoomies" Mood, how to handle him when he's pissed off, facts about his family - and yes, those two do tend to coincide - Tommy: Chimney - Chimney: - As well as written and signed statements from nearly everyone in his life - including one from Jee-Yun, whose statement I typed out, but she signed in crayon - that they will hunt you down and kill you if you hurt him in any way. Tommy(takes the binder): OK...? Chimney(stares at him for another moment, then smiles): - Happy for you, dude! {claps Tommy on the shoulder, then turns and leaves]

I am a good person. I am a powerful person, I don't believe in evil. I think that evil is an idea created by others to avoid dealing with their own nature. I understand my own nature, good and evil have nothing to do with it.

secret admirer part twelve
318 words
one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven
Steve’s feeling lighter after that. Sure, the things he wants to say to Eddie are stacking up in his brain like before Valentine's, but everything seems that little bit better now that he has plans to see Eddie. And sure, it’s for school, but still. He’s gonna see him. And talk to him. And draw him.
They’d agreed that they’ll work on the portrait of the other when they’re together and work on the self-portraits in their own time and in class.
Not wanting to suffer another bout of incessant staring, during lunch Steve takes Tommy and Carol’s usual side of the table and they don’t comment on it. He feels like he can finally breathe. That is, until Tommy scoffs.
“What the fuck is the freak staring at?” he spits.
Steve stills then rolls his eyes. “Not you, Tommy,” he mutters and Carol snorts in amusement.
Tommy pulls his eyes away from - presumably - Eddie. “What’s your problem?”
Steve looks up from where he was pushing his lunch around with his fork. When he meets Tommy’s eyes, the boy’s face is screwed up in annoyance.
“Don’t got a problem, man.” Steve shrugs. “I’m just saying, why would Munson be staring at you?”
Tommy’s face tints pink. “Wait.” Steve leans in conspiratorially and drops his voice to a whisper. “You weren’t- Were you, like, staring at him?”
Tommy pulls back in offense. “Fuck off, Harrington.”
Steve brings his hands up in surrender. “Woah, I was just asking. I mean,” He licks his lips, “How’d you know he was staring if you weren’t, too?”
Steve would know.
Tommy crosses his arms and looks to Carol for support. The girl only looks at him expectantly and pops her gum.
Steve cracks a grin and reaches over the table to jostle him. “I’m just messing with you, Tommy.”
The tension breaks and Tommy kicks him in the shin under the table. “Asshole.”

Hey
Has anyone ever considered that Maybe Tommy wasn't very upbeat at the ceremony because his homophobic former captain was there and ruined his whole day and likely made him uneasy?
And maybe Buck was being his silly goofy golden retriever self to try and keep Tommy in good spirits?
Which only worked for a short while because Gerrard approached him specifically to harass him and basically called him a fairy. He knew Tommy transferred from the 118. He was purposely setting him up to be homophobic to him. He only approached Tommy to bully him.
So then, protective Buck had to come out and give him a nasty glare while Chimney stepped in front of them and put Gerrard in his place one good time.
Well ofc nobody's thinking about any of this because they don't like Tommy so they don't care about his feelings.
Tommy has consistently come through for the 118, Buck especially, and the one time he needs cheering up and support, people see him as miserable and "bringing Buck down" and they enjoy a moment where he gets hurt.
We have seen Tommy happier, laughing/smiling more and way more upbeat in other episodes.
How much fun did you expect that man to have when a homophobic demon that he wanted to be away from, is 10 feet away from him (and will soon approach him) on what's supposed to be as special for him as it was for everyone else.
Whether people like it or not, and whether people want to humanize his character or not, doesn't change the fact that the decision for him to have a hurtful moment was intentional to give him a piece of the "ghosts from your past" storyline that everyone else is impacted by, to emphasize that Tommy is part of the current story and his character matters too.

NOW ON AO3
--
Eddie and Buck come through the door of Buck's loft together in a fit of giggles, still high over Chimney's expression being spat on by an alpaca, when they see Tommy sitting alone on the floor, pressed to a corner where he is staring out the window.
"Tommy?" Buck says, delighted and about to head over, when Eddie slaps a hand to Buck's chest. "What?"
Eddie's eyes narrow. There's nothing overtly odd, but there was something strange yet familiar about Tommy's expression and position.
"Buck, go make coffee."
"Eddie it's 9pm," Buck protests.
"Make. Coffee. And don't come over until I call you," Eddie doesn't mean to put on his Dad voice, but it works on Buck, and as Buck heads to the kitchen, Eddie goes to Tommy.
Thousand yard stare. Left hand clenched over the right wrist. Jaw set.
There is a knife in his right hand.
"Kinard, you okay there?" Eddie asks softly.
Tommy's gaze flickers and he looks at Eddie, a small frown creasing his brow. "I don't know."
"You know where you are?"
"Evan's place." He frowns more deeply. "I heard screams. Explosions."
Eddie sits down. He can hear the coffee machine going and Buck is probably hovering, waiting for Eddie's signal.
"When did you hear the sounds?"
"I don't know. I was... I was in my car, heading home. And then next thing I know I was... I heard screaming, and I drove here, and all I could think of was Evan. I had to get to Evan." Tommy blinks rapidly and his breathing picks up. "Where is-"
"Buck, come here," Eddie calls out.
Buck practically dashes over and kneels down next to his boyfriend. "Tommy."
"Evan," Tommy breathes out, and as if a string is cut, his rigid posture goes slack. "You're safe. You're safe."
Eddie exhales too. "Tommy, drop the knife."
"Knife?" Tommy looks at his hands and instantly relaxes his grip. The knife falls the short distance with a thud. Eddie reaches over and picks it up. A folding utility knife. Something Tommy would have in his car. "I didn't... Did I hurt anyone?"
"No," Eddie says with a tiny smile, patting his friend on the knee.
Beside him, Buck is swallowing down his thousand and one questions. He touches Tommy's arm tentatively, and is reassured when Tommy pulls him into a one-armed hug.
It could have gone badly, if Buck had run up to Tommy suddenly and unwarily. A knife wound to the gut would be a bad, bad thing, and Tommy would never forgive himself.
Some dark days, Eddie was thankful he had somehow had the presence of mind to lock the door before he fired the shots. If anything had happened to Christopher... He shakes himself out of the sheer horror of the thought.
"I thought... I heard screams," Tommy's telling Buck, "and I knew, I knew we were under attack, we had to find cover, but I needed to find you. I needed to make sure you were safe."
Buck kisses him on the forehead, then on the mouth, twice. "I am safe. We all are."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Either of you."
Eddie stands. "I think we all need some coffee."
-
Eddie and Tommy are sitting at the table, picking at what's left of the nacho chips, while Buck has been persuaded to go take a shower.
"You seeing someone about that?" Eddie asks.
"Used to." Tommy smiles grimly. "It was... It was really bad at first, when I just came back, but it's been... Shit, it's been a year and half? two years? since the last one."
"Auditory hallucinations."
"Explosions and screaming. There were... It was an accident, they told us afterwards. Bad intel. Civilians weren't supposed to be hurt." Tommy snorts. "Bullshit liars, all of them."
"That why you left?"
"Once the tour was done, I was too. I like flying. I don't like killing." Tommy's face is ashen. He looks a decade older with exhaustion. "I like what I've built since."
"I can tell." Eddie sighs and grabs Tommy's wrist, squeezes it once to get his attention. "And before you beat yourself up about the knife, I'm gonna tell you that you had a firm grip on your knife hand." He leans in, catches Tommy's guilt-ridden gaze. "You would not have hurt him. Part of you was keeping yourself in check." He squeezes again when Tommy tries to avert his eyes. "Tommy. You wouldn't have hurt him."
"I might in the future."
"We'll tell him how to manage this, okay? Because... Because he's had to deal with me too. He gets it. He really does."
Closing his eyes, Tommy inhales, holds his breath, and exhales. "Okay."
From the bathroom, Buck calls out, "So you guys done with the heart to heart yet or do I have to stay in here any longer?"
Eddie laughs, and is relieved to see Tommy's face crinkle up in that same warm, familiar grin. We're all gonna be fine.

Ok let's go back to this line from Agatha All Along
"it's underwater! There's a boy. It's a prank. They tricked him. He's gonna drown. it's a bad place. And the people, the family, there's no one to love him! He's got no one!"
Guys we're getting some Tommy lore and it's heart breaking💔 (we knew it would be).

No, but the way Buck glared at Gerrard and stepped forward after his derogatory“I heard you got your wings” comment to Tommy. I just know Buck was thinking back to Tommy telling him about being at the 118 under Gerrard and how regressive it was so yeah, Buck was about to SQUARE UP

The crucial thing about groomzilla Tommy to me is, like. He spent so long in the closet. And even now that he's out, he's circumspect about it. So he'd do a courthouse or a backyard if Buck really wanted to, but what he wants is a big rom-com SPECTACLE, because what better opportunity is he going to have to shout his love for a MAN from the rooftops?
And yes, the wedding is about Evan specifically and wanting to be married to him, but on another level it isn't. It's for 37-year-old Tommy whose heart was pounding when he casually mentioned Grindr to his new co-workers. It's for 26-year-old Tommy hiding from Gerrard, and 20-year-old Tommy hiding from his CO, and 14-year-old Tommy hiding from his dad. It's for 6-year-old Tommy who didn't get to dream about walking down the aisle. It's for 44-year-old Tommy who even then felt an occasional twinge of panic talking about his boyfriend but talked about him constantly anyway because he thinks, just maybe, he's falling in love with the guy.
It's just so so special to me to think about Tommy having a huge fuck-off wedding with doves and a six-tier cake and a filthy kiss with tongue, because he's GAY dammit, and today, this ONE day. He's going to make sure everyone knows it.

*in an abandoned warehouse* Tommy: Hello? Is this the right place? Eddie, walks out from the shadows: It sure is. Welcome, Tommy. Please, take a seat. Tommy, stares: Right. Of course, totally nothing weird about that entrance. Eddie: In time you will learn to do the same. Bobby, appearing with a whiteboard: Boys, that's enough chit chatting. We need to start the meeting before Buck notices we're gone. Maddie, carrying supplies: Last month was relatively calm, so we're expecting a shitstorm to happen around sometime this week. Athena, poofing into existence: According to our data, the next shenanigan with the most likelihood of Buck finding himself embroiled in is going to be an accidental kidnapping. Bobby, grunts: Shouldn't be too bad. We've already got that protocol down pat. Tommy: ...Where can I help? Eddie, proudly: I always knew you were going to fit right in. The Evan Buckley Protection Squad is a good fit for you.

The drunk woman was relentless, invading Tommy's personal space as he tried to step back. He kept flashing his ring, but either she hadn't noticed or simply didn't care. Tommy glanced at his watch, grateful Evan hadn't arrived yet to see this mess.
"I'm just a poor girl all alone and new to the city," she slurred, pressing closer. "Can you help me get home safely? You can drive me, and then you can come up and I can thank you properly." She traced a finger down his arm. "I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind."
'Okay, she just doesn't care,' Tommy thought, taking a step back.
"I'm sure the bartender would be happy to call a cab for you," he said firmly.
"But you're so big and strong. I would feel so protected," she pouted, swaying slightly.
"I'm flattered, but I'm sure you'll be plenty safe," Tommy said, maintaining his distance. "And my husband won't like you all over me."
"Husband?" the woman spat, her flirtatious demeanor instantly shifting. "Seriously, you're gay?" Her slurred voice dripped with disdain.
It was at that exact moment that Evan appeared.
"Oh, he's very, very gay," Evan said, draping his arms over Tommy's shoulders and pulling him in for a steamy kiss.
"Hi, baby," Tommy said when they broke apart, his earlier tension melting away at his husband's presence.
"You can go now," Evan said dismissively to the woman.
"You're the husband?" she scoffed, looking Evan up and down with obvious judgment. "What a waste."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Evan asked, his voice sharpening. Tommy could feel him tensing up beside him.
"Not worth it, sweetheart," Tommy said softly, squeezing Evan's hand. He knew that tone in his husband's voice - the one that meant someone had struck a nerve.
"No, I want to know," Evan insisted, his jaw set. The playful possessiveness from moments ago had been replaced by something harder, more defensive. "What exactly is being wasted here?"
"Your lifestyle," she sneered, waving her hand dismissively. "Two big, strong, handsome men shacking up together."
"Shacking up?" Evan said, his voice dangerously quiet. The woman had crossed a line, and Tommy knew his husband well enough to recognize when he was about to snap.
"We're not shacking up," Evan continued, holding up his left hand where his wedding ring caught the bar lights. "We're married. Legally married. I walked down an aisle, said vows, signed papers, and promised to love this man for the rest of my life. And you know what? It was the best decision I ever made."
Tommy's heart swelled, watching his husband defend their marriage.
"So no, it's not a waste. What would be a waste is if I pretended to be something I'm not just to make people like you comfortable. Now if you'll excuse us, I'd like to have a drink with my husband."
"You people," the girl said, shaking her head in disgust.
Tommy felt Evan stiffen next to him, ready for another round, but this time Tommy stepped forward. He'd let Evan handle it his way, now it was his turn.
"Ah, 'you people,'" Tommy said, his voice calm but firm. "Let me tell you about 'us people.' My husband and I are first responders. We put our lives on the line every single day for others - including people who think like you do. I spent years hiding who I was because of that kind of hatred, afraid to be myself. But then I finally accepted who I really was, and that opened my heart to the possibility of love. And I found it - real, earth-shattering, life-changing love."
He pulled Evan closer, feeling his husband relax against him. "So the only waste here would be letting people like you make us ashamed of something so beautiful."
Tommy turned away from the woman, effectively dismissing her. "Come on, baby."
The woman slunk away into the crowd, her previous bravado gone.
"You ok, babe?" Evan asked, turning to Tommy with concern.
"Are you kidding?" Tommy said, pulling him closer by his belt loops. "That was extremely sexy watching you tell her off like that. Look how far my little baby bi has come."
"Couldn't have done it without you," Evan said softly.
"You know, I'm actually more hungry than thirsty," Tommy said, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
"Oh, is that so?" Evan replied, a knowing smirk spreading across his face."Well, we should probably do something about that."
"Yeah, we probably better," Tommy said, pulling Evan in for a heated kiss.
When they broke apart, Evan was speechless. He shook his head. "But not here."
"Right, right, let's get out of here."
They stumbled out of the bar together, Tommy tugging Evan along by their joined hands. Their laughter mixed with the night air, any trace of anger long forgotten replaced by the joy of just being together.

The second time Tommy meets Philip and Margaret is not under the best of circumstances.
Maddie is wrecked with worry, Jee is confused about why her daddy can't sleep at home and why her Uncle Buck isn't here, and Tommy himself is approximately three broken Kit-Kat bars from completely snapping.
So when the Buckley parents show up at the hospital, Tommy is not in the best of moods.
"Why are you here?" Margaret says when she sees him, instead of asking "How's my son?"
"Because I'm waiting for the outcome of the surgery," Tommy says, pretty curtly, but after fourteen hours following a full shift he is about to keel over. He's seated right now, having no further energy to pace, with his elbows on his knees, his head aching from the fluorescent lights and endless activity all around him, and his heart steeled against the worst possible outcome. "I mean, it's certainly not for the ambience."
"Maddie called and told us that Howard and Evan were in the building when it collapsed," Philip says before Margaret can react to the sarcasm. "We wanted to be here for Maddie."
"For Maddie, of course it's for her," Tommy says, and he is so beyond sick with worry that he can't force aside the irritation nor hide it with civility. "She's gone home with Jee-yun. I promised to keep her updated. If you're looking for her, I suggest doing so tomorrow morning when she's had hopefully at least an hour of sleep."
Margaret glances at the light above the operating theater doors and wrings her hands. "How long has it been? I can't bear this."
Tommy doesn't even look at his watch anymore. "Fourteen hours, thereabouts. Howie's just come out two hours ago."
A whole building. A three-storey building. Howie was on the top floor, so he was freed from the rubble first. Evan was on the ground floor. The 217 and the 124 had been on the scene, Tommy flying five casualties from the wreck directly to hospital, one of whom was his friend. All the while he had to internally battle the screaming need to claw apart the debris, with his bare hands if necessary, to get his Evan out of there.
Philip hugs Margaret. "He'll survive. He's always done so, since he was a kid. You know how it is with him. Scrapes and cuts and falls. He'll come out of this without trouble."
"I can't bear waiting here," Margaret whispers again. "You know I don't like..." She shuts her eyes and shakes her head.
"I know, I know it feels like it's Daniel inside, but it isn't."
And Tommy loses it.
Logically, he knows that Philip is merely trying to reassure his wife. Logically, he knows that they are trying; the mere fact that they are in hospital to check on Evan and Howie is a statement that they are trying.
Every other part of Tommy, however, explodes with incandescent rage.
"Daniel? Daniel?! Evan's in there, fighting for his life, and you can't even focus on that?" he spits out. "The only reason why I am even talking to you is because you made Evan. You brought him to this world. And you don't deserve him. Every day I see how much he loves, how openly and how bravely he loves, and to know that you both treated him the way you did... And now you come here, to the hospital, and you talk about being here for Maddie and, and thinking about Daniel, instead of your son who could've died today!"
Taking a deep, shuddering breath, Tommy realizes that he's on his feet, his fists clenched, towering over two older persons who are shrinking away from his six foot two frame. Suddenly drained, Tommy licks his dry lips.
"Go see Howie," he says in a low voice. "You probably can't go in yet, but find out what you can to tell Maddie."
Philip clears his throat. "You'll let us know when Evan is out?"
"I'll call Maddie." Tommy sits again and stares at the wall opposite. Green. Dull, lifeless, bland hospital green. He hears the Buckleys walk away. "Philip, wait."
"Yes?"
"Sorry about the outburst. Also, you're supposed to call him Buck. Remember that."
Philip sighs again. "Of course. We'll see you later, when Ev- Buck is out of surgery."

Ok, so can we talk about Punz for a second? Because like when I rewatched that stream the other day, not only did I notice that it was Punz who avenged Dream by killing Tommy and returning all of his stuff, after Sapnap and Tommy had ambushed Dream and refused to return it [details] (making him truly the mvp, who really doesn’t get enough credit). But I also noticed some other fun things.
Specially this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tommy punches Dream -> immediately killed by Punz [clip].
Like okay maybe we could make the point that Dream pays him to kill Tommy and reclaim all of his stuff [clip], but pretty sure Dream isn’t paying him to be so protective.
