the etoken eyeball scene in the anime vs the manga is so ridiculous to me because look at how wildly different the tones are
manga eto: probably laughing, voice cracks at some point, caught between a cry of joy and a cry for help
anime eto: asmr, a little tired, no energy, maaya sakamoto killing it as usual
#tg anime is good for two reasons: maaya sakamoto eto and yutaka yamada soundtrack#etoken#tg#tokyo ghoul#ken kaneki#eto yoshimura#tg meta? not really but hey

i know this is supposed to be an art blog but hear me out
TOKYO GHOUL AS A SURVIVAL HORROR GAME
dis claim her: i actually haven't played any games like this, this is just based on my recollection of watching other people play them. reading the manga did make me wonder if ishida played resident evil / biohazard or just had a ps1 growing up, lol.
picture this: it starts with kaneki (or maybe takizawa if you wanna go that route) escaping kano's lab after waking up from surgery, not knowing where he is or how a date with rize caused him to end up there (like the beginning of Galerians minus the amnesia)
maybe there would be like a morality system, where you have to decide between clinging on to kaneki's human side by avoiding eating humans and fighting with regular weapons instead of kagune, or, you know, being a ghoul.
or hell, you can play as amon doing investigator stuff, eventually getting caught up in kano's bullshit, eventually coming across kaneki and helping uncover the ghoul conspiracy (idk what else to say, i'm tired and can't think of anything else)
just saying, tg's plot kind of reminds me of Parasite Eve. also the anime would have benefited from the first Silent Hill game's soundtrack, since we're going with ps1 horror here.

You haven't gotten a lot of Non Quirk questions in a while, so I wanted to send one that I think would be fun. What do you think would be the favorite anime/series of each 1-A Character? I know Tokoyami would be a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, but the rest I'm not sure.
Can I just say how much I enjoy questions like these? It's always really fun to get questions unrelated to Quirks, especially more light hearted, character focused questions like these. I appreciate you sending this in and encourage more non-Quirk related questions. That aside, I will expand this to include manga as well. There are some choices on here that I think are perfect, but I know that certain animes aren't the best adaptation.
Sato: Food Wars. Maybe Toriko if you want something more on brand with him. I would say more about it, but that would imply there is anything deeper to read into with Sato.
Koda: Pokémon. There really isn't anything complicated about this choice. Just a fun, lighthearted series with wonderous creatures under the main character's control.
Mineta: Without question, it's Kill La Kill. He's actually one of the few people who are able to read into it on a deeper level and what it's trying to say but nobody believes him.
Denki: I don't know, Seven Deadly Sins? Kaminari just seems like he would be the most basic, go with whatever's is the most popular kind of fan, never really commiting to anything for too long.
Tsuyu: I think she would be into cute and happy series. Something light and fun that puts a smile on your face and could enjoy with other people around. Think something like Spy x Family.
Sero: Maybe Steins' Gate? He's on the same level as Denki, but it's usually more along with critics are going with then general audiences and at least takes some time to think about it.
Ojiro: Pretty much any heavily technical fighting anime, like Hajime no Ippo, but has a special place in his heart for Dragon Ball Z. Who knew that a martial artist with a tail would hit a chord with Ojiro?
Hagakure: I think her being into Sailor Moon would make sense. Something fun and flashy. I could easily see her using her reflective powers to do the whole Moon Prisim Power thing.
Aoyama: I could see him being kind of anime snob, being more interested in really old animes like Revolutionary Girl Utena or Rose of Versailles. Just something really pretty looking for his Bishonen soul.
Mina: Again, another character like Denki, but instead of focusing on shonen, she's more into whatever is popular with rom coms or slice of life, like Don't Bully Me Nagatoro or Dress Up My Darling.
Jiro: I honestly see her being more pulled towards the soundtrack of an anime rather then it's content. Though I do think she'd be interested in Cowboy Bebop with it's general "cool" feeling to it.
Tokoyami: He certainly seems like the guy that would be into the whatever edgy anime flavor of the month. First Death Note, then Tokyo Ghoul, and most recently Jujutsu Kiasen.
Shoji: He'd be into the Berserk manga. Just one of that people that reads super mess up stuff and is one of the chilliest people around. The only time he gets angry is when you mention any of the adaptations.
Kirishima: His favorite would be Gurren Lagann and there is nothing you can do to change my mind. It's just too perfect. That being said, if you want to pick something more ongoing, I'd say Jojo's Bizarre Adventure for obvious reasons.
Uraraka: I think she'd be into One Piece. I'm not sure why exactly I picked that out, I just think that she would like it. Maybe it's the mix of good, light heart adventures, lots of action and heart renching movement that makes me think she'd like it.
Tenya: Pretty much anything related to Gundam. I could see him being into the mechanics of the robots and the amount of stragy involved in the fights. Out of all of them though, his favorite would be the objectively best Gundam series: G Gundam.
Bakugou: Bakugou is both sides of the deep Naruto fan coin. He's simultaneously the guy that's actually reading into it and understanding what's it's saying, but also the obnoxious dude bro that talks about it like it's the greatest manga ever without question.
Shoto: It was honestly really hard to think of anything for him. He just doesn't seem like the kind of that would be into it. I was tempted on Fire Force for a joke, but I like the choice of Fruits Basket better. I feel like the complications of family and bonds would speak to him.
Momo: I was tempted to go with Doctor Stone, but I had to go with Fullmetal Alchemist. She's definitely one of those people who slaves over all the little details and themes in whatever she is watch, her face glowing as she talks about Elric's character and journey.
Izuku: I really wanted to pick One Punch Man for obvious reasons, but I think he'd be more pulled towards Hunter x Hunter. I think he'd especially be interested in the power system that's one of the few in all of manga that doesn't have to do with whatever you're born with.

I recognised Austin Tindle in Stampede's English dub because I'm also a fan of Tokyo Ghoul, just so's you know, which had an anime adaptation a few years ago. It's… existent. Manga's much better. Good performances and soundtrack, though.
Tindle had the main role. Ken Kaneki: a gentle man with superhuman powers he's reluctant to use, quick to cry and panic, caught between two species, forced to engage in violence as he struggles to uphold his late mother's ideals.
Then he's cast in Trigun Stampede and it's as Millions Knives.
#trigun stampede#tokyo ghoul#tristampparty#i just can't stop finding it funny#finally he gets to make other people cry#at least knives isn't likely to have anything to do with centipedes#don't ask#if you don't know you don't want to know#on the other hand if tindle had a nickel for every major role with murder tentacles and mother issues#he'd have two nickels#is this what they call a shit post#mini meta

Unrelated to your stories, but how did you become a BTS fan? And since when?
Oh jeez, it's been quite a while! Let me give you the rundown!
Back in 2012-ish, I was writing fanfic on Quotev...as an eleven-year-old 😂 Anyways I made a friend there a few years later who got me into anime and one of my favorite animes was Tokyo Ghoul. Well, about 2014 - 2015 (ish) there was this post trending that was saying "hey this guy looks like the real-life Ken Kaneki!" And it was actually Taehyung when he had white hair!
So being a young teen who was in love with anime characters I tried to figure out who he was and I discovered BTS at the time. Anyways I kind of forgot about them and moved on when my knowledge was satisfied. But then, back when Vine was around, I kept getting these edits of these guys dancing in an empty pool and I looked them up again and I was like "Ah ha! V! I know you!"
Anyways it was Fire and I added it to my playlist and I would actually work out to that song. At that time I was training to run a mile for Cheer because that was mandatory at my high school, so I would blast fire while I was dying at the track.
After that I started listening to them casually - I remember blasting Save Me, I Need U, and then Younger Forever which quickly became my favorites (especially Save ME).
But then Wings came out. My best friend told me about it and I listened to the entire thing and after that I wasn't a causal listener anymore 😂To this day, Wings is my favorite album and I don't even own a copy 😭
So! I became a pretty dedicated listener in 2016 - BTS was honestly the soundtrack of my high school years and they got me through so much shit. Set me on my fitness journey too which covid threw me off 😂
This was a really long explanation but I love looking at the domino effect of events that occurred o bring me to this point! I actually wanted to start writing in 2016-2017 but I stopped myself from doing it because I didn't think I knew enough about their personalities to do it and I am honestly glad I waited despite feeling like I lost time 😅
Ah, I'm so nostalgic now.

Pierrot Studio: The case of Tokyo ghoul
In class, we talked about how Sony controls nearly 90% of the anime industry, unlike other studios. This got me thinking about Studio Pierrot, which some consider a competitor to Sony. However, I have a different opinion because, in my experience, they ruined one of my favorite mangas: Tokyo Ghoul
Tokyo Ghoul, created by Sui Ishida and released in 2011, is a seinen manga with psychological horror elements that dives into deep themes like friendship, loneliness, and the challenging journey of fitting into society. Ken Kaneki, the main character, is a solitary young man with a passion for reading, finding a connection to his late father through books. His only friend is Hide, highlighting his isolation even more. [Spoiler alert] When Kaneki transforms into a ghoul, he faces the dilemma of belonging to two opposing worlds and tries to find a place in both—a struggle that many of us can relate to, as we often find ourselves trying to fit into societies where we don’t necessarily belong. The story also addresses themes like the fear of loneliness and the lack of parental figures, aspects that, from my perspective, greatly shape human development.
Unfortunately, Studio Pierrot didn’t capture these elements in their adaptation. They skipped numerous essential scenes that enriched the story, which was a huge letdown.
On the other hand, this studio is known for having “decent” animation and for choosing good soundtracks (as seen in the OSTs and openings of their animes), but within the community, they’re infamous for ruining manga adaptations. Every time they announce that a manga will be animated by Pierrot, many of us think, “Oh no, here comes the filler, weak character development, and most likely, the loss of what made the manga a true work of art.” Examples of this are Tokyo Ghoul and Naruto, the latter known for its overwhelming amount of filler episodes. My Thoughts on Tower of God Season 2 Episode 1
Hey guys, I hope to make this a regular thing every week! Before I begin, I want to state that I watched episode 1 and 2 when it first aired, but I didn't have the time to write anything about those episodes. Now I do! At the time of writing this, I have not watched episode 3. Anyway! Let's go!
WEBTOON SPOILERS WAS TEASED BUT NOT OUTRIGHT STATED
Rating: 9/10
Summary: A solid premiere that showcases what this new season will offer with the change in studio and artstyle! Some scenes felt a bit off but it wasn't too much of a bother!
I like the short recap at the beginning of the episode! It lets us adjust to the new artstyle and direction the show is going while also giving us a bit of a refresher as it has been 4 years!
This scene is interesting because first, AWWW ENDORSI NOOOOO SHES CRYING, and two, does this mean that they will add in the Bam and Endorsi scenes that were skipped? I sure hope they do their best to add in key scenes for characters that were changed or skipped in season 1!
OH MY GOD SHE SAID IT SHE SAID THE THING GUYS OMGGGGGGGGG
Why did Yuri's VA change? It will take some time for me to get used to it, but it's alright.
I like her look, they made sure to design her as closely to the webtoon as they could.
KEVIN PENKIN YOU'RE COOKING SO DAMN HARD WITH THIS SOUNDTRACK. THIS SCENE FELT LIKE MADE IN ABYSS FOR A SECOND WITH THAT MUSIC. LOL
If y'all are curious, I already gave my thoughts on the new OP here.
Loving the voice acting for him!
Maybe it's just for Wagnan, but I love the expressions!
I'm not ready.........
I love how the inspirational music playing as Wagnan steels his resolve gets cut out with a loud chanting ost when Viole comes into frame.
Love the details on his eyes. He looks tired. First glimpse of Bam as Viole!
The start of a beautiful friendship!
Yup. this scene was funny years ago, and it's still funny now.
HORYANG HAHSHAHAHAHAHAH
THE TEAM DAD IS HEREEEEE
i liked the music here! And love this scene because it shows how nice Wagnan is despite his strong personality.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO LETS GOOOOOO
AND HERE IT IS. THE ROUGHLY 10 SECONDS OF FIGHTING THAT WAS SHOWN CONSTANTLY IN TRAILERS!
Jokes aside, it was VERY well done. I smiled like an idiot watching it and even replayed it many times.
I am unsure if it was done by a solo animator, but I hope they save their resources for this type of animation during very important fights.
Season 1 had very animated fight scenes too but they all felt slow to me. This? I love, the dynamic camera really adds to the action. Music is great too! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its better than other popular shows' fight scenes with sakuga animation. I'm just saying that if they maintain this current standard, I will be satisfied!
I do wish it was slightly longer and I am worried that this episode may be the only one with good animation for its fight scenes due to how much it was being used for promotion. However, I will keep my fingers crossed that they are cooking for THAT important fight later in this cour.
OH THE SHINSU LOOKS BEAUTIFUL HERE
NAHHH VIOLE WAS TRYNNA CATCH A BODY HERE. HE WASN'T JUST GONNA "FAIL" WAGNAN LMAO
Istg guys this ability only appeared like once and never again. Maybe I just don't remember. Anyway, close enough. WELCOME BACK TOKYO GHOUL!
NAH WAGNAN SAW THE REAPER IN THAT SPLIT SECOND. VIOLE WAS DEADASS TRYNNA WIPE THIS GUY OUT OF THE TOWER COMPLETELY LOL.
:(
I LOVED the ending to this episode. Viole's flashbacks, and him standing in that elevator with the music playing. It gives you so much regarding Viole's feelings about his life and his surroundings at that moment. And the way the music distorts at the end adds to the tragedy of Viole in my opinion!
I LOVE THIS ED SO MUCH GUYS. THEY DID IT IN WEBTOON SCROLLING FORMAT!!! THEY EVEN ADDED SIU'S WAY OF CREDITING HIMSELF EVERY CHAPTER (He removed the TUS after coming back from hiatus tho oh no)
To me, this ED not only pays respect to the source material and how many of us read Tower of God. But also a way, in my opinion, of telling the audience that "Yes, we know about the source material, and we will follow it this time." And I like that it will show more every episode. (Also covering up all the events with Jahad's symbol like its "blocking memories" is kind of funny. I doubt the studio did it with that in mind but its still a neat coincidence)
Overall, a fantastic premiere to the new season! If they maintain this quality, we are in for a treat!

Warnings: Your average Tokyo Ghoul angst + Swearing + A bit of comfort
Requested by: No one
Synopsis: Reader comforts Touka after Ryouko’s unfortunate demise
Notes: I miss writing Tokyo Ghoul content so to all those reading, feel free to send in a request for some of the characters and I’ll see what I can do :)
Silence took over Anteiku’s foundations-pure,dead silence…out of respect for the lost. The shop was closed due to the unfortunate events that had taken place, therefore the usual cheer and tranquility that many brought alongside them was not present as of today.
The unfortunate demise of Miss Ryouko Fueguchi fuelled hatred and despair upon the workforce of the little cafe in the 20th ward, so much so that it subsequently sparked understandable rage and an overpowering thirst for revenge.
Touka was blinded by her overpowering emotions, with every right she had a reason to feel this way, she did what she felt was right. She had a desire to make the wrong-doers and poisonous hypocritical doves (that sparked unnecessary fear and fury towards innocent beings merely trying to survive) pay for their crimes among the virtuous and guilt free family known as the Fueguchis.
Touka knew what Hinami’s story felt like all too well seeing it happen to another who was so close to her made memories that she’d rather forget and leave in the murkiness of the past bubble within in her and mix corrosively with the inner turmoil of demons and burdens within her.
The 17 year old girl sat on her bed (legs held up to her chest) trying to configure a plan to ambush the doves who killed Hinami’s parents. She was so caught up in her thoughts, that she hardly realised the tears streaking down her porcelain skin nor did she realise she had a visitor standing in her doorway with a small sad smile gracing their lips. “You doing alright in here Touka? You’ve been holed up in here for a while now.”
Touka looked up from her lap and noticed the ever so familiar appearance of her significant other. “What do you think? Surely you must have taken the hint of me wanting to be left alone right?” She mockingly laughed.
Y/n walked into Touka’s bedroom and tried their best to smile. They crossed their arms and responded, “Yes I know you wanted to be alone but I grew worried…besides I know what you’re really like,” Touka’s glossy eyes met with y/n’s, “Mind if I sit?”
Hastily the 17 year old wiped away her tears and nodded, “Y-yeah.”
Y/n wrapped their arm around Touka’s body and Touka leaned into her partners touch, “You try to put on a brave face for everyone in here, especially Hinami…that girl is so lucky to have someone like you in her life y’know that?”
Y/n looked down at their girlfriend. Eyes filled with sadness, red and puffy, her face was stained with tears and arms littered with small and very faint crescents from where her finger nails gripped so harshly. Y/n rested their head on Touka’s shoulder and whispered, “I know how hard it is to see something so similar from your own past happen to someone else and I get it’s tough to contain all these emotions.”
“I-I just don’t get why it had to be them. They could kill any one of us that ruin the good ratio of us!” Tears began to form once more, “Why couldn’t it have been me? A killer like me doesn’t deserve to live.”
Y/n broke the embrace they gave Touka and placed one finger underneath her chin, tilting her head and signalling her to look up. They wiped the stray tears that were escaping her beautiful violet hues, “Darling please don’t speak of yourself as such…”
With that requested y/n rested their forehead upon Touka’s, “I’m pissed that those fuckers get away with killing ours all the time…that’s why I’m offering my help.”
Touka’s head shot up, “Huh?”
Nodding they replied, “You heard me.”
A smirk now played at their lips, “I want to make the bastards pay. I want to witness their cries of agony as I rip out their organs and feast on their flesh, I want them to see the sheer terror displayed among their faces. Sinners must be cleansed as they say…and I’m willing to do whatever it takes.”
Touka took a deep breath and nodded, “Finally someone who knows what the hell they’re talking about. Justice needs to be served.”
Nodding once more you got off of Touka’s bed and kissed her cheek, “Alright then it’s settled. We set up a trap, possibly something revolving around false information, for tomorrow and as soon as the sun sets it’s time to make those rotten sods pay!”

five anime/manga recs if you like blue lock
@lizzieonka tagged me to list five anime/manga recs; since my main blog is mostly fantasy stuff, I decided to do five recs based on blue lock and post it here instead :D
moots check these out:
1. Given
for the best animated *gay panic* moment haha, the protagonist is a baby gay
i highly recommend watching the anime since the story is centered around a band
2. Ace of Diamond
if you want to check out another sports manga that focuses on characters wrestling for the same position, check out ace of diamond aka daiya no ace. it’s pretty cutthroat — i mean you’re either playing or on the bench watching some other person play. cheers.
the manga is better than the anime, but the anime does have some pretty sick soundtracks
3. Death Note
a classic; if you like our brainy protagonist isagi, you’ll probably like light yagami and his super high-stakes 4d chess game
the manga is actually better (source: trust me)
4. Tokyo Ghoul
what, in my opinion, probably resembles blue lock the most stylistically; i always thought tokyo ghoul was widely popular back in my days (?) but whenever i bring it up, people shake their heads
it’s technically classified as seinen with a splash of horror and, as you can see, it involves a lot of devouring (😏)
disclaimer: i have never watched the anime so i dont know anything about its quality
5. Magical Girl Ore
this one is just blatantly gay and hilarious; it’s a parody of the Magical Girl subgenre where teenage girls change into pretty outfits in order to defend mankind. only in this case, the protagonist gains magical powers that turn her into a really ripped dude in a pretty outfit
and her crush is 100% gay and her lesbian best friend is in love w/ her
it’s oddly entertaining

Alright, time to write a love-letter to the Danganronpa anime's opening and ending themes through the only way I know how -- ranking them.
The game themes aren't included -- mostly because I'm not particularly fond of them. That leaves six themes between three arcs. Let's kick off!
6. Recall the End
youtube
The ending theme to Future Arc gives me Tokyo Ghoul vibes in the worst way. It's not terrible, but it's pretty generic and easily the worst of the themes in what I would consider a pretty stacked category.
5. Never Say Never
youtube
Danganronpa: The Animation's opening is the closest to the original source material and it's really good! Everyone's featured and the dancing Monokuma is a success. Really, the only reason it's so low is because all the other themes are that good. It really speaks to the quality of DR's themes that this comes in fifth.
4. Zettai Kibō Birthday
youtube
I do regularly tear up during Despair Arc's end credits. It is all about Chiaki's happiest times and we know that those are pretty short-lived. It's a little cliché, and it's taking advantage of how tragic the arc is . . . but it's good.
3. Kami-iro Awase
youtube
I'll be honest, this could be number one. All of the top three are amazing and the only reason I'm putting the Despair Arc opener in third is because I would absolutely rock out to the other two in any situation. You can read my full post about why this one is so complicated, and beautiful. It's one of the best songs I've ever heard.
2. Zetsubōsei: Hero Chiryōyaku
youtube
I've said it before: This song goes hard. The video game aesthetic is pure and I just want to head-bang every time I hear it. There's a super interesting dynamic to adding everyone who dies into the photo with Makoto. That, and the show isn't afraid to use this song to punctuate some really important plot points. It's the soundtrack to Junko's reveal.
Dead or Lie
youtube
Dead or Lie is just really fucking good. Read this post, listen to it, and if you don't like it then I just can't do anything else. This theme kicks so much ass that it speaks for itself.
