Character Theme | Kien Eilath
What instrumental track would play in the background of your character's story during their most meaningful moments?
youtube
This song definitely plays for other meaningful moments in Kien's story but this moment above in particular is the first one I thought of when I got tagged! Takes place in Shb right after Mt. Gulg--I imagine the theme would begin to play as soon as Blaise (@circusredmage) hugged him because up until that point in Shb, Kien had been keeping quiet about the light corruption happening to him and not wanting to worry his friends but this was a pivotal moment of finally processing it all and knowing he had friends who cared and wanted to help him. Anyways, I am rambling and could go on forever XD I might do this with my other ocs if I have time! I was very excited to be tagged in this one so thank you @sundered-souls for the tag! ^^
It's been SO long since I've tagged people so apologies if you've been tagged already but if you have other songs, I'd love to hear them! Tagging: @tokki-yue @circusredmage @adeat @decadentvelvet @under-the-blood-moonlight @fair-fae @nyarumi-nyan @phoebe-of-ivalice @biff-adventurer and anyone else! Tag me! I wanna listen <3

this isn't enough for you the words creep into your head in the dead of night one night and you cannot get rid of them. 'this isn't enough for me anymore'. you thought this was enough for you at some point, or maybe you hoped that it would be, but it isn't, and it hurts. you need to change something, or die trying. this - life like this - does not make life worth living. there is a lump in your throat that demands attention every waking moment of the day. there is pain in your body like a cavernous maw you cannot keep balance over. this is not what you wanted. you need to change. you can't stay here. it is not a character flaw you want more.

Prompt 30: Amity
a friendly relationship
Character(s): Ciel Fyth, Malek Fyth, (belonging to @holy-halone) Elorra Lark, (belonging to @tokki-yue) Y'shtola Rhul, Thancred Waters Cw: none Word count: 1606 Notes: It's the last day! A nice lil wholesome fic to wrap up year 3 of this challenge for me! I finished with Ciel last year and honestly, this word is perfect for finishing with him again! Enjoy! Set in Shadowbringers around the lvl 74/75 quests! (also readmore for length cause oops, this got away from me XD)
It was of course business first when Malek and Elorra were welcomed into Slitherbough. The older Viera knew his younger brother would be here with Y'shtola, the Exarch had told him as much when they arrived but when he didn't see him wandering the camp, he couldn't help but worry. He and his brother had rarely been apart since their village was destroyed--Ciel didn't hold up well if he had to be apart from Malek's side for more than a night back on the Source, he couldn't imagine how well the younger Viera was holding up now since it had apparently been three years since his arrival to the First.
Y'shtola had told him that Ciel was doing just fine on his own but since he wasn't around the camp, he was most likely out on an errand for Runar. Malek had to force himself to keep his calm as Y'shtola explained to them about having to finish translating a text so they could use that to access the Lightwarden of the area but the only problem, it was in the possession of a rather aggressive faction.
“The encampment we seek is to the north, but it would be foolish to simply rush in.” Y’shtola had explained. “There isn’t exactly any amity between the Night’s Blessed and the Children of the Everlasting Dark so we have guards posted at Cleric to keep watch over them…they might be able to provide us some insight into their recent activity and we can decide the best course of action from there.
“But we must tread carefully–there is a chance we may encounter them along the way so stay close and stay alert. They rejoice in dealing death to others, claiming that in doing so they cleanse their victims of sin and usher them unto the sunless seas. I would rather not sully my hands defending myself against such madmen.”
“Wait a moment,” Malek interjected. “Ciel is out there right now by himself with the potential of these ‘madmen’ out there to ambush him?”
“He is more capable than you realize,” Y’shtola said cooly but with a tone of understanding. She had known the brothers for a long time and knew just how protective Malek was toward his younger brother and how much Ciel clung to him like glue. It was endearing to see such a strong relationship between them but the Miqo’te knew three years not by his side had given the younger Viera a much-needed leg to stand on by himself. Malek hadn’t had the chance to see that yet. “Trust me, whether we see him on our trek or not, he’s just fine.”
Malek wasn’t convinced.
The trek to the encampment was short and silent at first but the older Viera couldn’t help the anxiety knawing in his gut when they were ambushed by the Children as they got closer to their destination. There were only two of them so they were easily outnumbered and outmatched between himself and Elorra but they were extremely resourceful and powerful–Malek couldn’t fathom the idea of Ciel being out in the marsh somewhere facing them alone. As they sheathed their weapons, a yelp tore through the marsh and the Viera grew pale.
“Ciel!” Without bothering to wait, Malek dashed off in the direction of where he heard his brother’s voice, his heart pounding in his ears.
“Malek, are you certain?” Elorra asked as she easily caught up and matched pace with the other, Y’shtola and Thancred not too far behind. “That could be any of the guards at the outpost!”
“I know that cry anywhere.” Malek replied. “Dammit, I knew he shouldn’t have been sent out here alone!”
Malek and the others drew their weapons as they got closer to the clearing, the sounds of a fight growing closer. When they broke into the clearing, Malek was fully expecting to see Ciel in danger but instead realized very quickly that his assistance wasn’t needed at all as the last of the ambushers fell to the ground unconscious.
Ciel had his back turned to them so he didn’t quite realize the new company as he lowered his staff and wiped the sweat from his brow with a small sigh of relief. His ears twitched and he turned around, a smile brightening his face as Thancred and Y’shtola arrived, both of them also sheathing their weapons as they realized the threat had passed.
“Malek! Elorra!” The younger Viera wasted no time running toward his brother, wrapping both him and Elorra into a hug. “You’re finally here!”
“Thank goodness you’re unharmed.” Y’shtola smiled as Ciel released the other two and stepped back.
“We would’ve arrived sooner but we also got caught up with some trouble of our own,” Thancred mused as he looked around at six people still out cold on the forest floor. “Though from the looks of it, you did just fine on your own.”
Malek and Elorra exchanged curious looks with one another. “You—you took them all out?” Malek asked before he could stop himself.
“Yep!” Ciel beamed proudly.
“But we heard you yell,” Elorra added on, just as equally speechless as Malek was.
“Oh yeah, they sort of caught me off guard.” Ciel laughed as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. “The Children have been acting strange as of late so I tried to get a closer look, I guess that was a little careless of me. But I’m alright! I’m sorry to have worried you!”
“No, don’t be,” Malek replied sheepishly. “I’m impressed, really.” He exchanged a smile with his brother, feeling a sense of pride but the guilt for doubting him still lingered.
“As much as I would to continue this reunion, we only have so much time before they come around and we've got a mission to finish,” Y’shtola said as she turned to Ciel. “You mentioned that the Children have been strangewhat have you seen?”
“Oh right,” Ciel sobered. “They’ve been breeding their venomous spiders in much greater numbers as of late. It stuck out to me because usually they’re just gathering ingredients for poisons from flora and fauna. It almost feels as if they’re preparing for something…”
Thancred frowned. “Any ideas as to what?”
“It could be anything, really.” Y’shtola replied. “If it meant the end of the Blessed, nothing would be too cruel or violent for them.”
“I’ve tried to make peace with them before but, it never really goes well.” Ciel chimed in with a shrug. "Shtola says it's pointless to even try anymore, but maybe one day there can be a friendship between us."
"But today is not that day," Y'shtola clicked her tongue. "We need to figure out a way to sneak in so I can access the tablet they possess so I can finish translating the text."
“Why don't we play their own game?" Elorra suggested. “Take advantage of their present occupation with the spiders and use it against them.”
“Oh! I’ve got it!” Ciel said suddenly. “If we were to introduce a threat to the nests where they keep them, the Children would be compelled to save them. Bees! They’re a natural predator–we set them loose on the nests and that would give us the opportunity to sneak into their encampment.”
“What a mischievous plan, I like it.” Thancred grinned as he ruffled Ciel’s hair. “With a bit of smoke, we should be able to subdue a few colonies long enough to secure their hives. I don’t suppose you have anything to use?”
Ciel smiled, gesturing to trees left of him. “We have smoke bombs at the outpost just over there, Valan and I made them earlier today.”
“Then it’s settled.” Thancred smiled as he rubbed his hands together. “Shtola and I will grab a few smoke bombs from the outpost if you, Malek and Elorra would like to search for beehives–I imagine they won’t take too kindly to your visit but once they’re knocked out, bring them back here and we’ll set the plan in motion. Two should suffice.”
With the next steps in place, the small group departed in different directions to go about their tasks. Malek hung back with Ciel for a few extra moments to finish his reunion with his brother.
“You know, I was worried,” Malek began as he stood by his brother’s side, looking out into the trees. “When I heard you had been here for three years already after you were spirited away, I thought you’d be in bad shape–but now seeing you kick some serious arse just now, it seems I owe you an apology for doubting you.” He turned to look at his brother who was listening calmly, a smile crossing his face. “Looks like you’re just fine on your own now, you don’t need me, do you?” he chuckled fondly.
“I’ll always need you,” Ciel chuckled as he playfully shoulder bumped his brother. “I just don’t need to rely on you as much anymore is all. The three years spent with ‘Shtola in Slitherbough really helped me learn how to handle myself better.”
“Is that so?” Malek replied, the sense of pride overwhelming him as he reached over to ruffle his brother’s hair affectionately. “I’m proud of you little brother and I’m happy to see you again.”
Ciel laughed softly and leaned into the touch. “Me too.”
He was still beaming as Malek pulled his hand away and they turned to face each other, a small quiet moment passing between them.
“Now c’mon,” Malek said. “We’ve got some beehives to find and some chaos to create.”
“Right!” Ciel laughed as they began the trek through the marsh once again.

Prompt 18: A Fish Out Of Water
a person who feels awkward or unhappy because they are in a situation that is not familiar or because they are different from the people around them
Character(s): Syren Ligeia and his sis Willow, Bijou Myste, Amora Shimizu (belonging to @tokki-yue and @holy-halone) Cw: mild language Word count: 995 Notes: Just a fun lil one that my sister helped me come up with! Set in early ARR as Syren often let Bijou take the spotlight of Warrior of Light because he didn’t like the attention and she happily ate it up. (This of course doesn’t last but he held on to his incognito as long as he could XD)
Syren let out a sigh as he raised a hand to shield his face from the bright sun. Out of all the places he expected to go today, the beach was not one of them. It was already much too hot for his liking, the sun much to bright that he wished he had a parasol–not only that, but some sort of festival was happening–the Moonfire Faire if he could recall his sister’s excited babbling–and that seemed to bring in way too many people for the Viera’s liking.
‘Let’s all go to the Beach’ she said. ‘It’ll be fun’ she said.
Except Syren wasn’t having any of it and he was ready to leave even though they had all just arrived. Too bad he was the only one who felt that way in his group and his inability to say no to his sister was what got him in this situation in the first place.
“Wow! This looks so fun!” Willow gushed as she lead the group down toward the water. “There’s so much to do, I don’t know where to start!”
“How about you three go have fun, and I’ll be here under the shade.” Syren stated flately to which his sister playfully rolled her eyes and tugged on his arm.
“Oh don’t be such a grump Sy,”
“Yeah Sy,” Bijou giggled. “Learn to let loose and have a little fun, will ya?”
Syren shot her a look. “Aren’t you worried you’ll be recognized miss ‘Warroir of Light’?”
Bijou shrugged innocently. “Nah, it’ll be fine! I’ve got a hat and sunglasses on–so long as no one draws any attention to us, we can all have a perfectly relaxing beach day!” She stretched her arms up, basking in the sunlight.
“Even though you’re even the Warroir of Light.” Amora muttered as she crossed her arms and tossed a disapproving yet still amused look over at Syren.
“Listen, if she wants to have the title and the attention, let her have it.” Syren responded with a shrug. “Now if you excuse me, I’ll be over here.” he tried to stalk away to the shade but both Bijou and Willow pulled him back with grins.
“Oh no you don’t!”
“Come on, just for a little?”
Syren let out a huff. Fine. Only for a little.
Except, only for a little turned into the majority of the day. The day seemed to drag on and by the time mid-afternoon rolled around, Syren was hot and exhausted, physically and socially. Amora and Bijou didn’t seem the least bit phased, in fact, if Syren didn’t know any better, he’d swear they were having the most fun because they were watching him suffer. He certainly didn’t miss Bijou’s amused grin every time he tried to retreat to the shade and Willow dragged him back out again, insisting he try ‘just one more thing!’
At some point, Amora and Bijou strayed from the group to relax under a parasol, both keeping watch over the siblings. “He has a hard time saying no to her, doesn’t he?” Amora chuckled, watching as Willow dragged Syren to a crowd of people who were learning some sort of dance.
“Yep,” Bijou replied, leaning back on her chair to sunbathe. “He’s been like that with her ever since we were little. I’m surprised he hasn’t put his foot down more with her.”
“I think it’s more of a he doesn’t want to see her upset kind of thing.” Amora responded with amusement. “Guess he can have a bit of soft spot,” she added quietly under her breath, as if still not quite believing it herself.
Meanwhile, Syren was just outside the crowd, awkwardly trying to do the dances move that were being taught, if only to please his sister once more in hopes to be left alone afterwards. He was not catching on as quickly, his movements 1 or 2 seconds behind the beat.
“Look at Syren,” Bijou had said quietly so that only Amora could hear her, or so she thought. She nudged the other with a sly grin, pointing at the Viera. “He looks like a fish out of water with those bad dance moves. Good thing he doesn’t need those dance moves to be the Warrior of Light, we’d be doomed!”
Syren stopped dancing, his ears twitching as he easily picked up Bijou’s words. After years of growing up with him, Syren figured she’d be more aware of his sharp hearing by now but he decided to use this to his advantage. She wanted to make fun of him? Fine, two could play that game.
He discretely slipped out of the crowd with a smirk as he formulated his revenge. His sister was having too much fun to notice him leave and Bijou was still too busy laughing at him. Syren cleared his throat and cupped his hands to his mouth and shouting, “Hey look! Is that the Warrior of Light?” He pointed at Bijou as the crowd of dancers stopped and stared at him in confusion.
“Oh shit,” Bijou’s face fell as the realization of the situation dawned on her. Several people in the crowd turned to look at her, eagerly making their way over to her. She quickly stood, backing away slowly. “Oh come on Sy, it was just a joke!”
Syren shrugged at her with a smirk, watching in amusement as she glanced at Amora in a silent plea to help but she too shrugged with a look that said ‘you did this to yourself’ Bijou groaned and took off in a jog down the beach to escape the group of eager onlookers. Willow was quick to follow after her, hoping in some way she could help while Amora just shook her head, watching the situation unfold but staying behind.
That should teach her.
Syren laughed silently at his victory and retreated back to the shade, relishing that he’d get to spend the rest of the day in peace.

Prompt 11: Once Bitten, Twice Shy
used to mean that a person who has failed or been hurt when trying to do something is careful or fearful about doing it again.
Character(s): Atticus Wolfram and Shaili (belonging to @tokki-yue) Cw: none Word count: 863 Notes: Out of all my ocs, I think Atticus fits this one best <3 Set around Endwalkwer time but no real set place in the story. Also, did anyone else get the forbidden xmas song stuck in their head when they saw this? No? Just me?
Atticus was the type of person who wouldn’t get close to people. Couldn’t, was more of a better way to phrase it but he never said that aloud to anyone, knowing that would lauch into a myriad of questions he didn’t want to answer. This was especially true when it came to loving people.
He had loved once before. A childhood friend who he grew close with. They trained together, joined the Legion together, shared every moment together–Atticus had built his entire world around him, feeling that he was his forever. He had been so blindly in love that he slipped up and exposed his father’s rebel operation against the Empire to him, believing he would feel the same. He hadn’t. He had a deep love for their homeland, and sense of pride and duty to the Empire that Atticus couldn’t relate to. Perhaps if he had been raised in a different household, things would have been different.
Even so, Atticus knew, deep down, he was never meant to stay in Garlemald.
He just wished he hadn’t said anything to him about it. Maybe things would have been different and he wouldn’t have destroyed so many lives for his mistake. He vowed to never let himself get to close to anyone like that again. He couldn’t trust himself to not get hurt and he couldn’t trust himself to not hurt them.
But with her, it was different. She knew where he came from and what he had done. And while most people would run away, she stayed. She was willing to see past his flaws and mistakes, and she didn’t hesitate to call him out on things. She kept him grounded and in check, and even if she didn’t feel the same about him, he certainly couldn’t ignore the way his heart fluttered to his stomach every time she looked at him or smiled at him. There was always this strange tightness in his chest whenever he was around her, and if given the chance he would tell her everything just as he had before with him. And yet, he still hesitated, even if all the signs were there.
Some things, he had learned, were always left better unsaid. And sometimes, second chances were never worth it.
“There you are!”
Atticus was pulled from his thoughts, blinking the moisture back into his eyes from staring too long at the water. He turned around to see Shaili just coming over the crest of the hill gazing at him with a mixture of impatience and relief. He gave her a nonchalant wave, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
“You can be quite difficult to track you know,” Shaili stated matter of factly. “I feel like I’ve searched this area at least twenty times before spotting you on a cliff of all places…what are you, a cat?”
Atticus laughed. “Maybe on another shard, I am.” He turned back to fix his gaze at the water again, quietly adding, “I just like the view of the ocean from here–really helps clear the mind when you need to think.”
“You, thinking?” Shaili hummed playfully as she stood next to him. “Well that’s the beginning of disaster, isn’t?”
Atticus leaned sideways in order to nudge her slightly off balance, she made a small protest but managed to catch herself. “Aha, but sometimes that disastrous thinking of mine has saved our necks more than once, and you know it.”
Shaili let out a scoff in reluctant agreement but smiled down at him all the same. Atticus couldn’t help the small intake of breath at the way she smiled at him. “Well, if you’re done thinking, we’re going to grab dinner at the Last Stand, if you want to come.” the Au’ra turned away, muttering. “I mean, you don’t have to–you can stay up here and think until the sun sets for all I care, but Anya was insistent I go find you beforehand and ask, so here I am, tracking you down when I should be eating…” she trailed off and Atticus couldn’t help but chuckle.
“It sounds as if you want to me to be there since you went through all that trouble searching the city for me,” Atticus teased playfully as he stood up and brushed himself off. “So I suppose I should honor the lady’s request.” he tossed her a charming smile and a wink.
“Oh shut it,” Shaili rolled her eyes but the Elezen caught her lips tugging into a small smile before swiftly turning on her heal and heading out down the hill again. Atticus watched her go for a few seconds, a fond smile on his face as he placed a hand on his chest to still his fluttering heart.
Despite everything, she was still willing to give him a chance. It was only fair to return the gesture, right?
Shaili stopped and turned around, arching an eyebrow when she saw the Elezen hadn’t moved. “Hurry it up, would you?”
“Yes, of course, I’m right behind you.” Atticus laughed as he followed her and they continued down the hill, side by side.
Perhaps she was worth the second try.

Prompt 4: Off the hook
no longer in difficulty or trouble.
Character(s): Atticus Wolfram, Anya (@holy-halone), and Shaili (@tokki-yue) (first time writing for their characters, I hope I did alright!) Cw: None Word count: 1302 Notes: I was originally going to write this prompt with N'noah but then Atticus kind of took over XD readmore for length!
Atticus Wolfram considered himself to be quite clever, especially when it came to sweet talking his way out of tricky situations. Flash them a little smile, turn on a little charm, and then job well done, he could escape with ease. But this time, trying to flirt his way out somehow got him behind bars without a chance of bail. Curse the Gods who were mocking him today.
“I promise you, I had a very good reason for what I did,” Atticus tried again to convince the guard but he wasn’t having it. A tough nut to crack because even when Atticus turned on his charm, the guard wouldn’t so much bat an eyelash his direction. “My sweet sweet grandmother is ill and all I wanted was to bring her flowers as a get well gift.”
“I’m sure your sweet ill grandmother would be disappointed in you for bringing her something stolen.” The guard chastised lightly, his back still turned to Atticus so he failed to see the feigned hurt on his face.
“I’m sure you don’t lock up everyone who steals once, right?” Atticus was trying a new tactic. Maybe he’d go easy on him if he found out this was his first offense.
“Oh, certainly,” the guard finally turned around to look him in the eye. “But you’re not a first offender, are you Wolfram?”
“How did…?”
“We guards talk,” the guard laughed. “The moment you left Ul’dah, a friend of mine sent word to keep a look out for you in case you ever showed up in Limsa.” He leaned in close, almost gleeful to share this next bit of news. “And in Limsa, we’ve got pirates, so we’re well equipped to catch the sneakiest of thieves.”
Atticus for once, was speechless. He let go of the bars and sauntered over to the wall, sinking down in a silent groan. “So then how long are you holding me for since I’m not allowed a bail?”
“Hmm, guess it depends on the guard master but he’s away on a trip and the next in line is me and since you tried to flirt your way out, a think a good fortnight would be good for you.” The guard smiled, pleased with himself as Atticus straightened up, mouth agape.
“For stealing flowers?! Oh come now, that’s a bit dramatic, isn’t?”
“Except those flowers you tried to steal are a key ingredient to make a certain poison,” The guard eyed him wearily. “I’m well aware of what you were up to so don’t think you can talk your way out of this one.”
“I’ll have you know, the flower may be used for a poison but it can also be used for an antidote.” Atticus interjected. “That’s why I needed it. I was stocking up just in case for my employer.”
“Stealing is still stealing,” the guard waved a hand dismissively as he turned around again, making it clear the conversation was over. Atticus leaned back and heaved a sigh. He closed his eyes in an attempt to sleep, that would at least help the time go by faster, or at least he hoped it would.
“Excuse me, but is there an Elezen named Atticus here?”
Just as quickly though, his eyes snapped open at the familiar voice. He lepat to his feet, his hands gripping the bars again as his travel companions came into view. “Anya! Shaili! Aren’t you two a sight for sore eyes!”
Shaili raised an amused eyebrow at him, a small playful smile on her lips as she replied, “And aren’t you a sight to be laughed at–what in the hells are you doing here? Slacking off on your job from the looks of it.”
“He was caught stealing.” The guard stated before Atticus could come up with a witty retort. Anya feigned a look of shock as Shaili rolled her eyes letting out a quiet ‘of course he was’
“Stealing? I assure you, he’s not a common thief!” Anya began but the guard shook his head, jerking his thumb toward Atticus. “He was purchasing something for me last I checked.”
“Let him tell you then.”
The two au’ri women turned to face the elezen who felt put on the spot but still nodded and smiled all the same. “Well, you see, I was trying to obtain flowers for you actually,” Atticus began as he once again turned on the charm, turning toward Shaili. “A pretty lady such as yourself cannot be without flowers right? It was only then I realized I forgot my gil at the Inn and I was about to tell the vendor I would return with an IOU but then this guy showed up and arrested me without any chance to plea my case. You trust me, don’t you miss Shaili?”
A moment of silence passed before Shaili frowned at him. “On second thought, leave him in there.” she stated faltely as she turned to walk away.
Atticus let out a noise of disagreement, feeling his energy deflate. “Alright, I was joking about that, but I really did need the flowers for my companions.” he pleaded but now the guard and Shaili looked less than amused.
Anya let out a small sigh and stepped forward. “Please, as a Princess and the Warrior of Light, I need my travel companion and this man right here is my protector. I need him for the journey ahead–he’s vital to my success you see.”
“Anya…” Atticus suddenly felt his energy restore as he gripped the bars and stared at her with a newfound warmth, mildly impressed by how easily she could turn on the charm herself as the guard seemed to be falling for it this time.
“You wouldn’t want the news to spread that you prevented an important mission, would you? All because you held him here?” Anya feigned a look as she glanced over to Atticus. “He was wrong to try and steal and I promise you he won’t do it again, right Atticus?”
Atticus nodded in earnest, playing along to help her convince the guard further. Shaili just stayed silent in the background–it was hard to know if she was amused or annoyed.
Anya pulled out a small pouch of gil and passed it over to the guard. “Just this once, let us bail him out, I’ll offer you double the amount of gil even.”
“Now hang on!” Shaili began but her retort died away when the guard finally seemed to agree.
“I normally don’t do this, and I could get in trouble,” he began sheepishly. “But I’ll accept the plea deal, with no extra gil needed. Just the bail amount and he can be free.”
Anya’s face brightened and she sealed the deal with a hug to the guard who seemed caught off guard but delighted all the same. Atticus practically melted to the ground with gratitude toward her, the smile not leaving his face even as the guard seriously told him the next time wouldn’t be so forgiving. Once they made it back to the central plaza and began making their way to the docks, Atticus matched his stride with Anya’s ignoring the annoyed look from Shaili all the while.
“Anya,” Atticus began sincerely. “I cannot thank you enough for–”
“That bail amount is coming out of your pay,” Anya smiled sweetly and Atticus came to a dead halt, his face falling as she continued on with ease, Shaili snickering at him as she passed to catch up. “Just because I was there to get you out of trouble again doesn’t mean you’re completely off the hook~”
He blinked, recovering quickly as he jogged to catch up. “Fair point, but does it have to be the entire amount?”
Anya nodded and Atticus groaned. All things considered, he really should find a new employer.

My guardian once told me that the family I was born into doesn’t mean I have to consider them that throughout my life.
My older brother and sisters never made me feel welcomed and made it clear that I was nothing but a disgrace to our family name.
Looking back, I’m sure the only reason why I tried so hard to please them was because they were all I had and I didn’t know anything different.
Despite my best efforts to get on their good graces, I would always end up hurt or shamed—no matter what I did, I could never belong.
And then, when I arrived to Eorzea and met my friends, I finally felt the warmth of what a family is truly like. People who cared, who expected nothing of me except to be myself or didn’t scorn me for things I had little control over…
The biggest take away was having someone there to greet me warmly after arriving home…it was and will always be, the best feeling.
I’ll admit, it was a little overwhelming at first—but I knew it was something I didn’t ever want to lose. My found family became my true family.”

Day 3: DPS
Though Tokki was originally raised on a bow and arrow when she grew up in the Golmore Jungle, becoming a dancer was a work of passion. And a beautiful dancer she has become.

FFXIV Write 2022 //ffxivwrite info//Prompt list//Characters//master post// Prompt seven: Pawn | noun; a person used by others for their own purposes/a chess piece of the smallest size and value. | Word count: 475 Characters: N’noah Wiloh, Emmanellain de fortemps, with mentions of characters belonging to @circusredmage and @tokki-yue CW: none Notes: Set after the end of the Dragonsong War in Heavensward but no major spoilers. Figured I’d give a little fluff since the last few things have been a bit heavy. Formatting will be fixed once I’m at my computer and not a phone. ——-
“Checkmate.”
N’noah sat back in her chair, crossing her legs and arms as her lips curled into a smug smile. Emmanellain sat across from her, staring down at the chessboard dumbfoundedly as he tried to make sense of what just happened. Outside, a snowstorm raged but it was quite cozy in the Fortemps’s palor with a large fire crackling in the hearth and everyone gathered together for a quiet evening to relax.
Quiet, until Emmanellain loudly proclaimed he was the chess master in his family and challenged N’noah to a game, despite Kien and Tokki’s strong discouragement. But with Bastian and Saraphina baiting him and telling him about N’noah’s past winning streak, the younger Fortemps was not easily swayed.
And so while N’noah and Emmanellain settled across from each other to begin the game, Kien, Tokki, and Alphinaud took their places behind the Elezen to watch while Bastian and Saraphina took a seat behind the Miqo’te. Blaise returned just shortly after the game begun with the tea tray for everyone and sat down next to Alphinaud, intrigued as Kien quickly filled her in on what she missed.
The game ended as soon as it began. After a mere four moves, N’noah had her bishop and her queen diagonally from Emmanellain’s king which hadn’t even moved.
Emmanellain had to do a double take just to make sure he was seeing things correctly. “Wha—but—how?!” He looked back up at N’noah, mouth agape. “We’ve only just begun!”
“Experience, old boy,” N’noah giggled as she leaned forward, folding her hands on the table and resting her chin atop them. She watched in amusement as Emmanellain tried to recount his moves, picking up various pawns as he did so. Kien sympathetically clapped his shoulder with a silent ‘I told you so’ while the other three exchanged looks of amusement.
“Up to your old tricks again Noah?” Saraphina snickered but only loud enough for her cousin and Bastian to hear.
Bastian shook his head at the seeker with a smirk. “One of these days, you’re going to get caught.”
N’noah feigned a look of innocence as she twisted around in her chair to meet Bastian’s deadpan expression. “Mayhap, but I didn’t cheat this time, swear it.”
Bastian crossed his arms in disbelief. “Really? Show me then.”
N’noah rolled her eyes and turned back to face the board, gathering her small pile of sacrificed pieces and placing them back on the board. “Bastian doesn’t believe I played a clean game,” she loudly proclaimed, gaining the attention of the room again. “So Emmanellain, I challenge you to round two!”
Emmanellain groaned. “I don’t have a choice, do I?” Even so, he set up his pieces again and made his first move.
N’noah arched a brow in amusement—he made the same opening mistake twice. She shot a playful glare back at Bastian. “Watch closely now. I’ll win this in six moves.”
Sure enough, six moves later and a sacrificed queen, N’noah curled his lips into a smile and sat back in satisfaction.
“Checkmate!”
