FFXIVWrite Day 11: Surrogate
Characters: N’Noah Wiloh and Kien Eilath Word count: 729 Timeline: Set far in the future, no particular expansion in mind Warnings: None Notes: Is there any indication that something like surrogacy is a thing in this world like we have in irl with modern technology? No idea. But this was the first thing that popped into my mind and I ran with it. Plus I’ve been toying with this idea in Kien’s story eventually so glad I finally have a chance to get it out on paper. Enjoy~
The idea of being a mother to her own children was never something N’noah considered. Sure, she enjoyed being around children or taking care of Tokki or Blaise’s kids when they needed someone to watch them but, she always did so with the happiness of knowing she would return home to Sicard and not have to deal with a child yelling for no reason or pulling on her tail for fun. She wasn’t even sure if she was built to be a mother, mainly because she never had a good example to go off of–her mother being too ill to show her what it took to be a mother–if that was something that could even be taught.
She would sometimes wonder, however, what it would be like to be a mother, or at least, go through the motions of it all without having the permanent result of parenthood–she knew she wasn’t ready for that–but maybe if she could somehow go through the process first it could help her make up her mind. But…that was something that was merely a dream and besides, she was happy enough to continue traveling the seas with just her lover by her side.
But then–strangely enough–that dream would become a reality.
She hadn’t known what to expect when Kien wrote to her, asking if he and G’raha could meet with her for lunch. He didn’t specify what he wanted to talk about–only that he had an important question and it was best to be asked in person. Never being one to turn down food and good company, Noah met with Kien and G’raha at the Last Stand one sunny afternoon.
After lunch was finished, the three of them sat and chatted the afternoon away until finally, as the sun began its descent into the horizon, Kien’s expression turned nervous and he began to fidget until G’raha calmly placed his hand atop his and nodded encouragingly. Kien sucked in a breath and asked the question that brought them together.
The initial request catches Noah by surprise, her breath catching in her throat. She took a moment to gather her thoughts, the tension palpable at the table as an array of emotions flickered across her face. She must’ve made her initial shock plain because suddenly Kien’s cheeks turn a shade of pink and he’s frantically waving his hands in front of his chest, a look of embarrassment written all over his face. “You don’t have to say yes if you don’t want to do it,” he said hastily. “I’m sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable.”
Noah blinked at him, her eyebrows raising in confusion before a small played across her face and her eyes softened. “Kien, I’d be honored.” She replied sincerely.
Kien, mid-babble in his apology, froze and blinked at her. “You-You would?”
G’raha’s ears twitched forward in his surprise. “Are you certain? You’re not saying that because you feel pressured, are you?”
Noah’s smile widened with a giggle as she reached her hands across the table to gently take Kien and G’raha’s hands in her own. “I’m not sure if I ever want children of my own at the moment but what I do know for certain is that I want to be Eorzea’s coolest aunt to a baby Eilath and if that means being your surrogate to make that happen, then I’d be honored.”
Kien and G’raha took a moment to process Noah’s words before they looked at each other with wide smiles and laughs of relief and joy. Kien turned back to Noah with tears in his eyes, his grin infectious. “Noah–this means so much to me–to both of us,” He looked back at G’raha who was still at a loss for words but was smiling and nodding all the same.
“And it means the world to me that you asked me, thank you,” Noah smiled back, feeling her heart flutter in excitement and anticipation. She hadn’t expected this to ever happen–the fact that her strange dream of going through the motion of motherhood without the actual child at the end–was coming true. The journey ahead was sure to be full of surprises but she was honestly happy to help her best friend start a family of his own.
And maybe, after all was said and done, she’d learn if she wanted to be a mother to her own children someday.

Continuing from here: with @theimperialnuisance
"Oh a tour would be fantastic! The city does look fascinating. I'm going to need to learn the ins and outs anyways. I'm here to finalize my training as a samurai, and I'm sure it wouldn't look good if I'm always getting lost around here," she chuckled. It would have been easier if her master had been alive and could have gone with her. She understood that even if he were alive, he was a wanted man. They never would have let him set foot past the Ruby Price. Phoebe followed Kien as he led the way forward towards the towering inn. She noted the sign pointing to a public bathhouse and made note she would need to check it out later. A good soak was in order after weeks in the smelly hull of the ship.
The inside of the Bokairo was peaceful and well decorated. She was shown to her private room, which boasted a lovely bay window overlooking a large garden. She quickly changed into some more casual clean clothes and locked her room back up. She wondered if Kien was still suspicious about her true nature. While it was the truth she was there to further her training, she was also in Kugane to learn more information about her missing brother. She had learned through some of her contacts that someone of great import was staying at the Garlean embassy. It would take time to study the location before she could make a move. It would be one of her most dangerous missions yet; if she were caught she would be killed for breaking one of the cities sacred laws. She would play tourist for a few days and attend her training to give her an alibi.
She walked out to the small courtyard, glancing about to see if Kien had returned. He was nowhere in sight, so she stepped out further onto the rocky terrace. She breathed in the salt sea air, the city really was a beautiful thing to see from this high up in the city. Perhaps later, she would scale the inn and watch the moon rise.

AHH!! I LOVE THIS!! Our boys look so GOOD! (*^▽^*)
I am absolutely honored that you wanted to draw Kien and Teremy together!! This is absolutely gorgeous work my friend!! Thank you so so much for this! I will cherish it forever! ^_^ You are truly a wonderful mutual as well and I cannot wait for our boys to meet in game someday (hopefully!) soon! <3
(Ps, Also, I’m glad you enjoy me tagging you in all the memes and please never feel bad if you can’t tag me back! :3 I’m just happy to have you as a mutual and you still tolerate my shenanigans XD)
For @theimperialnuisance, who has been so kind as to tag me for many memes and nice things. I hope this picture makes up for that! … since I honestly feel really bad about having nothing to tag back from this quiet corner of the interwebs. TT;
Anyway, this pic is of our catboys, Kien Eilath (left - @theimperialnuisance) and Teremy Itsubishi (right - me). It does help that they both have the same hair and are both GNB mains (I think?). I depicted them like someone had come into the wrong neighbourhood and interrupted the wrong conversation.
Thank you for being an awesome person and mutual. Can’t wait until our boys get to meet in-game one day!

Character info for ffxiv write 2023!
Here is the cast of oc's that will appear in this year's challenge! :3 Kien is always my main focus but I have two new alts that I'd love to introduce/write for because I don't know when to stop making alts in this game without further ado!
Kien Eilath (Main Wol) Half Keeper, Half Seeker Miqo'te from Meracydia (raised in a Keeper tribe)
Closed off but kind, cautious sometimes, impulsive the next, learning to know what it's like to be loved and cared for by others. Will do anything to protect his friends and loved ones. Despite his title as Warrior of Light, he can be a bit aloof and awkward at times but his heart is in the right place and he can really be a goofball when he's around his found family. It's rare to see him angry, but never rare to see him practically asleep on his feet from working too much. Main class: Gunbreaker, dabbles in Bard Profession: Scion of the Seventh Dawn, Warrior of Light
N'noah Wiloh (alt oc, non-wol, doesn't have the echo) Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te from Ul'dah *Is the only oc who shares the same universe as Kien*
Mischievous, a bit of a flirt, will spare no expense to get the information she wants and needs, and will probably talk your ear off if you let her. She isn't one to shy away from a challenge and she isn't afraid to cheat her way out of a situation. While she seems very charismatic and open, there's actually a lot she doesn't like to share for the purpose of just moving on to brighter things. 1/3rd of the Red-head brigade and no, Bastian isn't the leader. Main class: Dancer, dabbles in Monk Profession: Immortal Flames private, former Scion of the Seventh Dawn
Syren Ligeia (alt wol) Half-Elezen, Half-Veena Viera from Ishgard
Hot-tempered and quiet, fiercely loyal, will most likely give you a nod or a one-worded answer half the time. Bluntness and sarcasm are his moods of choice. Despite the fact he looks disinterested, he's actually very observant and driven, and if you stick around long enough, more of his soft-hearted personality will shine through. Main class: Currently a Dragoon but will be Dark Knight by mid-Heavensward Profession: Former Temple Knight, currently the Warrior of Light and a Scion of the Seventh Dawn (though you'd never know as he doesn't like to share that. Bijou is the Warrior of Light, thank you very much)
Ciel Fyth (alt oc, non-wol, has the echo) Rava Viera from the Golmore Jungle
A literal ball of sunshine, (think golden retriever puppy) whose energy knows no bounds. He's extremely loyal, and kind, and will definitely talk your ear off about how great his older brother Malek is. He has a driving need to ensure the happiness of those around him because it's the only thing that keeps him from falling apart from what he had to endure in his past. Main class: White Mage Profession: Traveling healer, soon to be a Scion who accompanies the Warrior of Light with his brother
Atticus Wolfram (alt oc, non-wol, doesn't have the echo) Half-Elezen, Half-Garlean from Garlemald (with very little connection with aether)
Charismatic, Sarcastic, quick-witted, and will definitely flirt with anyone to get his way ("is it really manipulation if you make them feel good about themselves?") He tends to never give the full story as he doesn't like to get close to anyone but all he really wants is to find a place where he can belong. Known as the Raven to some, or an all-around wanted thief to the rest. Oh, and don't piss off his voidsent. (The last guy who did, well, it didn't end well) Main class: Parades as a Gunbreaker to his clients but only a few know that he's a very skilled Reaper Profession: Wandering body-guard/fighter for higher

Does your OC cry at weddings? Did they cry at their own (if they've had one?)
for whoever
1
<Amorous Asks!>
I'd think all of my ocs wouldn't be someone who would cry at a wedding, maybe get a little teary-eyed from how happy they are for their friend but nothing more than that. None of my ocs are married (yet) but Kien is promised to G'raha and while he got teared up when he and Raha exchanged their promise rings (I actually had a prompt I wrote for it in ffxivwrite last year (#shamelessplug), he didn't full on cry. But I am sure he'll cry on his wedding day as he never thought he'd be lucky enough to have someone to love/love him so yeah, he'd cry from happiness :3 N'noah got a little teary-eyed at Saraphina's and Bastian's wedding when she saw her cousin come down the aisle but she didn't full-on cry either. She probably wouldn't cry at her own wedding though. This would be the same for Atticus. (He'd absolutely tear up at a first look or when Shaili comes down the aisle) For Syren, nope, nada. He wouldn't cry at a wedding nor would he cry at his own. Not that he wouldn't be happy, he's just not the type to let himself cry in front of others. Ciel might be the only one who would cry at a wedding/at his own wedding (if he ever gets married) but it would be of course out of happiness and probably during the first dances/speeches. Thank you for the ask @actualanxiousswampwitch :3

Character Theme | Kien Eilath
What instrumental track would play in the background of your character's story during their most meaningful moments?
youtube
This song definitely plays for other meaningful moments in Kien's story but this moment above in particular is the first one I thought of when I got tagged! Takes place in Shb right after Mt. Gulg--I imagine the theme would begin to play as soon as Blaise (@circusredmage) hugged him because up until that point in Shb, Kien had been keeping quiet about the light corruption happening to him and not wanting to worry his friends but this was a pivotal moment of finally processing it all and knowing he had friends who cared and wanted to help him. Anyways, I am rambling and could go on forever XD I might do this with my other ocs if I have time! I was very excited to be tagged in this one so thank you @sundered-souls for the tag! ^^
It's been SO long since I've tagged people so apologies if you've been tagged already but if you have other songs, I'd love to hear them! Tagging: @tokki-yue @circusredmage @adeat @decadentvelvet @under-the-blood-moonlight @fair-fae @nyarumi-nyan @phoebe-of-ivalice @biff-adventurer and anyone else! Tag me! I wanna listen <3

Prompt 27: Sole
the section forming the underside of a piece of footwear (typically excluding the heel when this forms a distinct part).
Character(s): N'noah Wiloh, and cameos of Scions and my friend's ocs Cw: none Word count: 650 Notes: I thought I'd go with a different definition for this one at first and do a little angsty post but then I thought it would be fun to re-create an actual thing that happened to me when I worked at my old job so here is so silliness based off true events!
If there was one thing N’noah did a lot of since she joined the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, it was walking. She very much enjoyed traveling to all the new places and meeting all the new people but why was it she couldn’t report back to them over linkshell after all was said and done? Every task wasn’t complete until she made the long trek from the Crystal in Horizon to Vesper Bay where HQ was.
[Go assist with this beast tribe [and try not to let the Slyphs trick you into dancing for them for two bells straight again]
Pray return to the Waking Sands.
Go help fight off this primal [but not actually because you don’t have the echo and no protection against being tempered so you usually keep the tempered ones at bay while Kien, Blaise, and Tokki deal the major damage.]
Pray return to the Waking Sands.
Attend the City-State meeting in Ul’dah [and try not to fall asleep out of boredom because they tend to drag on longer than necessary sometimes]
Pray return to the Waking Sands.
Go to this place....and...well, you get the point.]
That walk alone seemed to do her in the most–why they hadn’t thought to put the HQ closer to a teleportation crystal was beyond her. She was fairly certain that was one of the reasons why her favorite pair of boots were beginning to show their wear and tear–she could feel the rubber underside becoming looser and looser from the leather shoe everytime she wore them. Still, she stubbornly told herself she’d give it just a little longer before she attempted to repair them or gods forbid, replace them.
Alas, some things aren’t meant to be.
It was a very hot day in Thanalan when she once again teleported to Horizon and began the walk back to the Waking Sands after another successful, yet admittedly, boring meeting. [She was beginning to wonder if she was cut out for this or should just stick to adventuring on her own but that was a quarry for another time] Everyone else was already there but she didn’t rush–the rest of the day was open so she had every intention to just enjoy a leisure walk back to kick off the rest of her afternoon off.
The walk there felt…off. The sole of her left boot kept dragging more than usual so she attempted to pick up her feet a little more with each step in hopes that would further delay the inevitable. By the time she got down the stairs and into the main hallway of the Waking Sands, she noticed her left shoe was missing the underside entirely now, which meant she had truly worn out the boots until the last of its life.
“Ah well,” N’noah sighed, more amused than anything. “It was bound to happen I suppose.” Guess the answer of repair or replace was obvious. She wasn’t entirely sure when the underside of her shoe finally fell off but she didn’t really feel like going back out in the heat to investigate so she wandered into the common room and sat down at a table with Kien, Blaise, and Yda, casually sliding into the conversation.
Thancred entered the room a moment later stopping short in front of the tables with a very amused yet bewildered expression. “Did someone lose their sole by chance?” When his question gained the attention of the room, the Hyur held up a brown rubber underside of what appeared to belong to a small boot.
N’noah brightened, popping up from her seat. “Oh! That’s mine! You found it!”
The Scions nearby couldn’t help the chuckles of amusement as Thancred shuffled over to her and set the sole in her outstretched hands. “I think it might be time for some new shoes, Noah.”
N’noah laughed in agreement. “Yes, I think that might be a good idea.”

Prompt 26: Last
on the last occasion before the present; previously.
Character(s): Kien Eilath, Crystal Exarch (Eulmore ShB AU) Cw: none Word count: 1572 Notes: This is a continuation from day 14 and part of the Eulmore ShB AU! Super happy the word works for the next part I was thinking of :3 Readmore for length and there will probably be more added to this later as I am getting way too invested in this AU XD
Despite waking up that morning feeling miserable, Kien reported to work. He didn’t really have much of a choice anyway as sick days weren’t really allowed but if one was lucky to have the favor of the manager maybe they could have an easier job for the night shift.
Kien didn’t have that favor unfortunately so when the daily cleaning was done and he was given his assignment for the evening, he had to hold back a groan. He was to make his rounds in the club as well as dance at least three choreographed dances on the stage. Great. Just great. This was going to be a long night and he could barely get through the day with how awful he felt.
As expected, the night dragged on. Kien did his best to make his rounds with the patrons, making sure to not let anyone catch on to the fact that he wasn’t feeling so great. No one was allowed to be sick and he didn’t want any of his regulars to possibly complain about his lower performance because of that. It was after he stepped off the stage from his third choreographed dance that he began to feel himself fading but when one of his fellow Honeybees informed him that his mysterious regular was at the Bee Hive tonight, it seemed to give him renewed energy.
Kien was hesitant at first to approach him; the last time he had seen the hooded patron almost a fortnight now, things didn’t end well as the mystel had sorely misjudged the situation between them and while Kien had plenty of time to move on, seeing him again in his usual spot made it feel as if nothing had really changed and this was a usual night of his visits.
As much as Kien was tempted to just let someone else take care of the man tonight, he knew no one else would. There was an unspoken rule that no Honeybee should take another’s regular and since Kien kept quiet about the previous encounter, no one was any wiser and it was up to him. “Every patron must be tended to is what the manager always said so if gods forbid were to come out and see one patron not taken care of, the blame would fall on him. With no where else to go, he couldn’t afford any mistakes. Gods, why am I doing this to myself?
Once the fresh pot of tea was made, Kien gathered his courage and made way to the corner table, his heart pounding in his ears. The man looked up and spotted him, a fond smile spreading across his face beneath the shadow of his hood–Kien hoped he was able to keep his expression in check and thanked the gods that the room was too dark to really see the fact that his cheeks were dusting a shade of pink.
“So we meet again,” the man said in his oh-so-sweet voice.
“I wasn’t sure if you’d ever come back,” Kien said shly as he set the tea tray down and slid into the chair across from him, his ears pressing back a bit against his head. “The last time when I admitted I’d try and earn my freedom for you–I thought I may have scared you away.”
The smile on the man’s face dropped a little but it was hard to really know if it was from anger or something else. “I apologize for that,” he said quietly. “I left you at your most vulnerable time. I should have stayed and explained myself better.”
“So I didn’t misjudge what was between us?” Kien asked before he could stop himself. He almost wanted to laugh in relief when the man slowly nodded his head.
“More than anything, I would like for you to be free of this place so we can meet without any risks.” The man said sincerely. “However, I still don’t think you should try to win Vauthry’s favor to do it and while I still cannot tell you everything just yet, I promise I will be able to get you out of here soon.”
“How exactly do you plan to do that?” Kien asked doubtfully. “My whole life is in this place. I don’t exactly get to walk out of here on my own accord and I’m not sure what kind of authority you have, no offense.”
The man raised his hands, nodding his head. “None taken my friend. You have every right to be doubtful.” he paused, pressing his lips into a thin line. “May I ask you if you can recall anything of your life before beginning your work here?”
Kien blinked. What an odd question. But now that he thought about it… “No, not really.”
“I feared as much.” The man pressed his lips into a small frown as he continued. “Tell me, what is all you remember before now?”
“I…I was found just outside the gates of the city about a year ago,” Kien began slowly as he carded a hand through his hair. “I couldn’t remember anything aside from my name. They told me I was likely a survivor of a Sin Eater attack and since I had no one to turn to or no where to go, they took me in which apparently not everyone is lucky to be taken under a sponsorship so easily but my manager kept telling me I was an exception…” Kien paused, realizing he was beginning to ramble a bit. “Sorry, but why are you asking this?”
The man hesitated on his reply. “You were never supposed to be here when you arrived.” Kien tilted his head at him in confusion and the man continued, leaning in to keep the conversation quiet. “What I mean is that you actually have a life outside of this place. Friends who care–a family even, all back home waiting for you. Somehow, in my error of summoning you to me, you wound up here instead with no memories. I’m not sure as to why they took you in but I’m starting to fear they might have done it because they know who you truly are by now and they’re going to hurt you to try and get to me.”
Kien raised an incredulous eyebrow at him, feeling the oncoming of a headache with all of this new information. “You’re not making any sense.”
“I know, I’m sorry.” The man frowned. “Trust me, it will all make sense soon but not until I get you out of here but I just need more–” he suddenly cut off, reaching out a hand to place on Kien’s forehead. Kien tried to shy away from the sudden contact but he practically leaned into the touch instead. “Kien, you’re hot.”
“Oh–I am?” Kien asked with a gentle hum. Was he trying to flirt now? He couldn’t really tell anymore–the information he had just been given was making him dizzy.
“Yes, you’re burning up.” The worry was evident in his voice. Ok so not flirting. It was concern. “You’re sick and they have you working?”
Kien gently pulled away from the man’s touch, not sure why he was embarrassed to admit this. “Sick days don’t really exist here. I was feeling a little off today but nothing I can’t handle.”
“No, this might work to my advantage.” The man suddenly stood. “Stay here, I’ll be back.”
Kien paled. “Where are you going?”
“To talk to your manager. I’m taking you out of here so you can rest.”
“That’s not going to be easy. How exactly do you plan to do that?”
A small smile spread across his face. “I have my methods.” And with that he turned on his heel and left into the crowd of the club.
Kien sat there, his head spinning though he wasn’t sure if it was from his fever or from the information overload of what the man was trying to tell him–maybe both. He let out a sigh, laying his head down on the table, starting to really feel the exhaustion setting in. What exactly did the man mean by all of that? What sort of danger could he be in? As he tried to make sense of everything, he felt his head pound even worse than before. He wasn’t sure when he had closed his eyes but he was suddenly alerted back to reality when the man shook his shoulder gently but urgently.
“Come, we don’t have much time.”
“What–wait, what did you do?”
“Not now, I’ll tell you later but if we don’t go now, this will be for naught.” The man said urgently as he helped heave Kien to his feet and handed him a heavy cloak. “Here, put this on and keep your head down.” He didn’t leave room for Kien to ask any question, his tone final. Still unsure as to why he was doing this or what exactly was happening, Kien obeyed, knowing he could somehow trust what was happening. Once he was under the concealment of the cloak, the man walked with purpose out of the club and down a set of stairs just outside the doors.
“Where are we going?” Kien asked quietly as he leaned heavily on the man’s side who despite his small frame was able to support him with ease.
“To the Crystarium.” He replied. “To your friends. I’m taking you back to where you truly belong.”

Prompt 17: You Pick (Trouble-Maker)
a person (or in this case a Chocobo) who consciously or unconsciously causes trouble
Character(s): Kien Eilath, G'raha Tia Cw: none c: Word count: 2510 Notes: so I originally wrote this for a prompt I received in my ask box and it was so fun to write but I couldn't think of a good beginning so I left it as a WIP. I finally managed to start and finish it so I thought this would be perfect for the word I chose for the free day! Read more for length <3 takes place shortly before patch 5.4!
The chronometer ticked idly as music played quietly throughout Cid’s workshop. Kien sat behind the desk, several airship blueprints were scattered in front of him as he scratched out various notes and hummed quietly to the music.
It had been just shy of a week since the Scions returned from the First and since everyone was still on rest orders from their soul rejoining, Kien found himself with ample free time he wasn’t used to having. Most of his time was spent assisting Tataru at the Rising Stones or at the Twin Adder but lately he had been occupied in the workshop, wanting to build an airship for his Free Company.
Cid was happy to get him started by lending out his old blueprints, but the project was proving to be more difficult than he thought, and the stubbornness to make progress kept him in the workshop for several bells every day. He groaned at the paper in front of him, the lines beginning to blur together from his endless starring of trying to make sense of it.
“There you are!”
Kien’s ears perked up in alert as the familiar voice of G’raha drifted into the workshop and he threw an arm over his chair to twist himself around enough to smile at the newest Scion in greeting. “Cid said you’d be here if I couldn’t find you in the Rising Stones. Have you been here all morning?”
Kien leaned back to glance at the chronometer, surprised to find so much time had passed since he first sat down to work. “I guess so,” he replied, tossing G’raha a sheepish grin. “The Twin Adder didn’t have any missions today, so I thought I’d spend the morning working on the airship…I didn’t realize it’s been several bells since I’ve been here.”
“How is it coming along?” G’raha asked as he peered down at the pile of work Kien had before him.
“Slowly,” Kien couldn’t help but let out a small, frustrated sigh. “There’s so many components to it and no two blueprints are the same…I can’t figure where to start.”
“Mayhap a walk will help?” G’raha suggested innocently as he moved behind the chair, unbeknownst to the other as he looked back down at the pile of blueprints again, shaking his head. G’raha pressed on. “It might help you clear your head, especially since I haven’t seen you take a moment for yourself since we all returned from the First.”
“This counts as time to myself,” Kien replied without missing a beat, causing the other to frown slightly in response. “I’m sure I just glanced over the wrong thing and need to start over…” He trailed away in his abstracted muttering, a frustrated sigh escaping him as he crumbled up his notes and pulled out a blank page to write on.
“You know,” G’raha began as he slowly clasped his hands around Kien’s chest from behind. “I’m fairly certain every now and then, the famed Warrior of Light and Darkness deserves a free afternoon. Especially if it means giving your mind a break from work.” He rested his chin on Kien’s shoulder, the movement bringing back a memory that caused him to chuckle. “This feels familiar, does it not?”
Kien finally looked up from the blueprints he was reading, a small unseen smile spreading across his face as he leaned into G’raha’s embrace and glanced his head to the side so he could make eye contact with him. “Yes, it does,” he replied with a laugh. “Only this time, it’s you trying to get me out of the workshop instead of me trying to drag you out of the Ocular.”
G’raha nodded his head as he leaned in closer to tighten his grasp around the unsuspecting man’s chest, his tail swishing playfully behind him. “And your intentions were so gracious that I intend to follow your example.” Before he even gave Kien a chance to process his reply, G’raha used the hold he had around Kien to drag his chair back from the desk causing the other to make a noise of surprise and protest before swiftly maneuvering himself onto the others lap, his hands now clasped loosely around Kien’s neck. “No souls at risk this time—I think the airship construction can wait a bit longer.” He peered up innocently at his partner, ears flickering a few times as he grinned.
Kien could only blink at him in amusement before chuckling. “You weren’t going to give me an option to say no, were you?” G’raha wordlessly shook his head, still grinning cheekily. The raven haired Miqo’te let out an exasperated sigh but grinned all the same. “Alright Raha, you win,” he raised his hands in a small surrender. “The rest of my afternoon is in your hands.”
“Excellent! I thought you’d say yes.” G’raha replied as he drew back to slide off Kien’s lap, the other playfully rolling his eyes. “Since you’ve been here all morning, I suspect you’ll be wanting lunch, so I took the liberty of preparing some sandwiches for us.” He turned to offer a hand for Kien to take and gently guided him to his feet, both of his hands still loosely clinging to Kien’s as they faced each other. “And since you have Nova, Blaise was kind enough to lend me her Chocobo Jester as a means for transport to our destination, if you’ve no objections?”
“Not at all,” Kien replied as he arched an eyebrow at the other in curiosity. “How long have you been planning this?”
A slight blush began to dust G’raha’s cheeks. “Oh, for a while now,” he looked away for a moment as if slightly embarrassed. “Since before you even woke me up here actually.” The blush was slowly becoming more prominent on his face. “You’ve done so much for me these past few moons; I wanted a way to repay that kindness. I know you’ve been trying to find ways to keep yourself busy while everyone recovers, but I think you deserve a day of relaxing as well…just like you had hoped for when all of this was over.” He paused for a moment, suddenly shy. “Too much?”
Kien’s expression softened as he released one of his hands from G’raha’s hold so he could cup the other’s face gently and lean in close to touch his forehead to his, his heart thrumming in his chest. “It’s perfect.” He nuzzled his head against G’raha’s who returned it in kind, both blushing and smiling in a moment of bliss. “Though, I will make one suggestion...” Kien said after they pulled away, G’raha hummed in curiosity. “I’ll take Jester and you take Nova…trust me on this.”
“Alright then,” G’raha smiled as he tugged on Kien’s hand to guide him to the door. “Shall we?”
—=—=—
They arrived at Hawthrone Hut just as the sun rose to mid-afternoon. Jester was constantly ruffling his wings in anticipation and digging his talons into the grass, letting out various whistles and chirps while Kien finished securing his barding. Beside him, Nova waited patiently for G’raha to finish his own preparations, letting out a soft ‘kweh’ in Jester’s direction as if chastising him for being so impatient.
“He’s quite energetic today, isn’t he?” G’raha looked over to Jester with a chuckle as the Chocobo playfully nipped at Kien’s hand every time he reached up to adjust the helm.
“Very much so,” Kien replied with a short laugh as he dodged his hand out of the way a few times before successfully clipping in the reins. “Even Blaise has a hard time getting him to calm down sometimes, and I imagine he’s full of energy with how little he got out of the stables while we were all away in the First.” He gave Jester’s beak a gentle pat and the Chocobo nudged Kien’s arm happily with a chirp.
“I think this ride will be good for him then.” G’raha grinned as he gently patted Nova’s beak after his preparations were finished. “Although, there might be something else that could help burn out some of that energy.” The red haired Miqo’te smirked as he swung himself up onto the saddle in one swift motion, adjusting his grip with the reins as he waited for Kien.
Kien raised an eyebrow at the other. “Oh? What’s that?” He followed G’raha’s lead, quickly grabbing the reins to keep Jester steady who once again let out a loud squawk, eager to take off now that his passenger was on the saddle.
“I think Jester knows what I’m thinking.” G’raha laughed. He leaned down to gently pat Nova’s head. “You ready Nova? We’re going to race!” Nova let out a loud squawk in eagerness and ruffled her wings.
“A race…?” Kien barely had time to adjust his grip on the reins before Jester let out a loud squawk, rearing up in eagerness and nearly knocking Kien off with the movement. “Whoa!” He quickly tightened his hold on the reins and leaned in low to keep his balance as Jester shot off down the path, picking up enough speed to whip up the leaves into the air. “Wait! Jester!” Kien tried to pull on the reins to slow Jester down again, but the bird continued to sprint, letting out a loud whistle as he tossed his head back in happiness, completely lost in his own bliss of getting to run freely.
“Kien! Wait!” He heard G’raha call out. “I didn’t say go!”
Kien glanced back to G’raha with a sheepish grin, his hair whipping his face as Jester let out a loud whistle. “Sorry! I can’t get him to slow down!” He called back, nearly losing his balance again. “You wanted to race, didn’t you?”
“Yes well,” G’raha’s voice grew closer as he finally urged Nova to move forward to which she was able to catch up quickly enough. “Traditionally, you’re supposed to wait for a ‘go’ before you race!”
Kien tossed back a grin as Jester continued his sprint, sunlight dappling on his skin as it flickered through the trees. “I don’t think Jester wants to follow traditions today!” He heard G’raha let out a playful sigh just as Jester picked up the pace again, leaving G’raha and Nova far behind as they sped through the Honey Yard. By the time Jester began to slow down and Kien was able to regain control of the reins, they had nearly made it to the Mirror Planks of the far side of the East Shroud.
G’raha and Nova weren’t too far behind in their trot and once they caught up, G’raha slowed Nova down so that she was side by side with Jester. Kien reached over to pat Nova’s head; despite not winning the race, she looked rather proud of herself for keeping pace with Jester the entire time. “Despite the unfair advantage, I concede.” G’raha teased lightly. “I suppose that’s what I get for challenging a Chocobo with too much pent-up energy.”
“He can be quite the trouble-maker,” Kien hummed in agreement, his face still flushed from the adrenaline rush. “That’s why I suggested we switch in the first place…I think we’ll have to take him out more for Blaise’s sake, so she doesn’t have to deal with impromptu races once she’s on her feet again.” Jester let out a ‘kweh’ in agreement causing Kien to chuckle as he gave him a gentle stroke through his neck feathers. “The gazebo is just up ahead…shall we stop there for lunch?”
“That’s where I had hoped to go, even if we got here a lot faster than intended.” G’raha smiled, causing Kien to laugh again. They reached the gate to the docks and Kien slid off Jester’s saddle to open the gate and allow Nova to stroll in with G’raha still on her back. Jester followed in next, heading straight for the water while Kien returned to Nova’s saddlebag to search for some greens for the two birds.
G’raha slid off Nova’s back and placed the basket of sandwiches down on the gazebo floor and turned to accept the greens from Kien to give to Nova who was eagerly eyeing them. She nudged G’raha’s arm in appreciation with a chirp as he held out the greens for her to take, a small chuckle escaping him as she eagerly accepted. With his attention diverted by Nova, the Archon hardly noticed Jester sneaking up behind him, a playful intent in his gait as he treaded carefully so as not to alert the Miqo’te.
There was a crunch of leaves, causing G’raha’s ears to flicker back to the noise but before he could turn, Nova nudged him again and he laughed. “Hey now, there’s still plenty left.” He reached down to grab more greens, failing to notice Jester right behind him until he heard the Chocobo let out a playful squawk and nudge him in the back. The sudden jolt from behind caught the Archon off guard and he stumbled forward with a gasp right toward an unsuspecting Kien who reacted with just enough time to catch him, but the impact was still strong enough to cause the two to tumble down toward the grass.
“By the twelve!” G’raha had just enough time to throw his hands out to catch himself from falling atop Kien’s chest and glanced down at the other, doing a once over to ensure there were no injuries from the fall. “Are you alright? Jester took me unaware--” He tried to begin to explain what happened, but the rest of the words died in his throat when he caught sight of Kien’s face, a lopsided smile spreading across his own. The other was laughing hysterically, so much so that he had tears beading his eyes. G’raha couldn’t help but let his own laughter overtake him as he breathlessly said, “I’ll admit, this is not how I thought this afternoon would turn out.”
Kien’s laughter finally began to subside, and he reached up to wipe away his tears before propping himself up onto his elbows. “Don’t worry,” he smiled. “This day was exactly what I needed.” He reached a hand up to cup G’raha’s cheek, lifting his face closer and G’raha leaning in until their noses barely touched. They hovered like that for a moment, hearts hammering and cheeks flushing. Kien closed his eyes as he surged forward to meet his lips with G’raha’s and the other melted into the kiss, the world fading away around them for a moment until they broke apart with breathless laughter, G’raha resting his forehead against Kien’s as Kien reached a hand up to stroke through his hair.
“Lunchtime?” Kien asked as G’raha straightened up and rolled off his hips.
“Lunchtime.” G’raha agreed as he stood up and offered a hand for Kien to take.
“Good, cause after all that excitement just now, I’m starved, and your sandwiches are my favorite!” Kien laughed, not letting go of G’raha’s hand as the two walked back over to the gazebo to enjoy their lunch and the rest of the afternoon in each other’s company.

Prompt 16: Jerk
a quick, sharp, sudden movement. Character(s): Kien Eilath, G'raha Tia Cw: nightmare aftermath, slight indications of a panic attack Word count: 941 Notes: No real set time frame for this one, probably between pre-EW or post-EW. This was actually a continuation from a prompt back in 2021 but I only wrote the first half so here is the aftermath of it. G’raha wakes Kien from a nightmare, not realizing how paralyzing his nightmares can be.
G’raha stirs awake suddenly, his senses on high alert at the sound of Kien groaning next to him. He slowly sits up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and taking note that the room was practically pitch black with how late it must be. His eyes adjust quickly enough, turning his gaze back to his partner as another groan escapes him followed by a sharp inhale of breath. It seems as if he was having another nightmare.
These weren’t common occurrences–G’raha only noticed Kien would get nightmares on the days he was exhausted or sick and today had been the ladder. A slight fever from overworking himself too much again–he had nearly passed out during a meeting with the Scions so G’raha quickly excused himself with the other and put him straight to bedrest when they got back to Kien’s apartment.
The other had fallen asleep instantly, practically dead to the world with how deeply he’d fallen asleep. This was the first indication of life from the other since his head had hit the pillow several bells ago and G’raha wishes it wasn’t in the form of a nightmare.
He hovers his hand uncertainly above Kien’s shoulder, unsure if he should try and shake him awake or just let the nightmare pass. But with how violently the other begins to thrash and moan, he decides trying to wake him might be for the best. He gently calls out to him, hoping his voice can break through his dream but to no avail, Kien’s head continues to jerk back and forth as his brow furrows in pain.
“Kien, hey,” G’raha doesn’t whisper, raising his voice a bit as he reaches a hand out to rest gently on Kien’s shoulder. The touch causes Kien to tense up and suddenly G’raha pulls back with a start as Kien jolts upright with a ragged gasp. He waits with bated breath as he watches the raven-haired Miqo’te look around frantically, his body trembling before he finally begins to curl into himself with a choked sob. He can’t help the small sigh of relief that escapes him. He was awake.
On instinct, G’raha reaches his hand back out toward Kien to comfort him but pulls it back just as quickly, ears flattening with guilt as Kien seemed to not recognize him yet. The moment G’raha’s hand had gotten close to him, Kien had whipped his head up and fliched so hard that his body flung itself into the wall. Now G’raha was watching in helpless desperation as Kien really begins to panic, ears pressed flat against his head and chest heaving for air as his pupils widen in fear. Shit. G’raha thinks–he was still trapped in his nightmare.
“Kien, Kien! It’s me,” G’raha tries to break through Kien’s senseless babbling, his voice raising just enough and he leans over to flick on the bedside lamp, hoping the warm glow of light would help. “Listen to my voice, you’re alright, you’re safe.” He moves himself back a bit further from the other, hoping the distance between them helps.
G’raha continues to mutter soothing words until finally Kien’s breathing begins to slow down and he uncurls himself from the wall. He had closed his eyes at some point in his panic attack but was now opening them cautiously as G’raha scoots closer to him again. “That’s it, breathe with me,” G’raha continues as he hesitantly places a hand on Kien’s shoulder again, relieved when the other doesn’t flinch. His eyes search the other’s for a sign of recognition as he slowly coaxes the other to take deep breaths.
Kien exhales, his eyes dilating for a moment before narrowing back again and he blinks, finally making direct eye contact. “Raha…?” his voice is quiet and still a bit shaky but coherent. “What happened?”
“You had a sort of waking nightmare,” G’raha lets out a shaky breath, squeezing Kien’s shoulder gently before releasing his hold. “Are you alright?”
Kien slowly nods his head, his hands still trembling as he moves one of them to trace his scar on his right eye. “I was dreaming of my brother again. Of when he attacked me and gave me this. It felt so real. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t fight him off, I felt him grab me–I–” his voice began to tremble again as the tears finally break free and before he can finish G’raha pulls him into a tight embrace, rubbing his hand in soothing circles on his back.
“It’s alright, you’re safe now,” G’raha whispers. “It was a nightmare, he’s not here, and he cannot get you. I promise.” It was strange to see Kien at such a state of vulnerability but G’raha knew part of this was due to his still lingering fever and he was sure the other would barely remember this moment when the morning came as he did with the nightmares before this. And that was alright with him. He would do what he could to protect him and keep him safe.
Kien lets out a shaky breath, nuzzling further into G’raha’s embrace. The two stay like that for a little longer, G’raha’s fingertips tracing shapes on Kien’s back as he feels the other begin to slump again, sleep reclaiming him. He gently lowers the other down to the pillows and leans over to flick off the light before lowering back down to his pillow and pulling the other back into his embrace. Kien’s breaths are gentle and steady and G’raha hopes his slumber will be peaceful and undisturbed this time. He places a soft kiss on the other’s forehead before drifting off to sleep again once more.

Prompt 10: You pick: Limit
the furthest extent of one's physical or mental endurance.
Character(s): Kien Eilath and Ardbert with mentions of Emet Cw: very mild body horror (if you squint) depiction of being sick Word count: 579 Notes: I asked my friend/co-worker to give me a word and this is what I got! :3 Contains Shb spoilers as this was the first thing I thought of when I heard this word. Might go back and edit this cause what I want to really capture here is just barely scratching the surface. Under the cut for the cw.
His comrades were down–there was no one left.
The Light was finally breaking free with a vengeance.
Harsh coughs racked the Miqo’te’s body as pain coursed through him.
It was only a matter of time before he became the very thing he feared to become.
A scream tore through his throat as a white hot pain stemming from his left shoulder blade drove him to his knees. That must’ve been the wing bursting through…the transformation was beginning to take hold and it made him feel sick to his stomach–literally.
He felt his stomach clench painfully and he fell forward onto his hands as his body began to heave up the chalky white bile again at an alarming rate. He could seem to catch his breath, his mouth opening and closing with needy gulps of air any chance he wasn’t coughing up. Dimly he could hear Emet-Selch saying something to him but it was drowned out by the cracking in his ears and his vision began to white out.
This is it then….I’m at my limit….after everything and it still came to this…
Kien fought back the tears as his body finally gave out and he fell forward onto the ground, the last of his energy spent. Just as his consciousness began to fade, he could see a pair of boots step up next to him. He didn’t need to look up to know who it was–the familiar warmth of his presence would be the last thing he felt before his vision was engulfed in blinding white light.
He wasn’t out for long though. Or at least, that’s how it felt when he blinked open his eyes. He was still somehow himself. At least, in here he was. He shuddered to think if on the outside he had already transformed entirely but at least here in this white cocoon in his mind, he was no longer in pain. The warm presence was still with him too and he finally had the strength to lift his head to see it was indeed Ardbert standing by his side.
He opened his mouth to say something, an apology for failing but somehow he knew that wasn’t necessary. The Hyur kept his gaze focused ahead, a raw sort of determination radiating off of him a as he finally seemed to understand his purpose. “If you had the strength to take another step, could you do it?” Ardbert asked, his question causing hope to bubble through Kien’s chest. “Could you save our worlds?”
Kien inhaled a breath, feeling his strength return to him. They haven’t lost yet. He pushed himself up to his elbows, a small determined smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “You know I could,” Kien spoke, his voice clear with determination. Emet-Selch would not be the victor today. His gaze softened as he too knew why Ardbert was still with him and he added with quiet conviction, “But not without you.”
Ardbert let out a short chuckle as he finally turned his gaze to Kien, his eyes full of the same purpose reflected in the Miqo’te’s eyes. “That’s the spirt,” He grabbed his axe off his back and offered it down for Kien to take. “Take it, we fight as one!”
A new blinding light filled Kien’s vision as he grabbed the hilt of the axe and he knew he could push himself beyond his limits to win this battle. His world and this world would be saved.
