The Owl House overlooked/loose Plot treads (Updated)

There are a LOT of unresolved, unaddressed, and forgotten mysteries, characters, and plots that had to be cut short because of the shortening so... I decided to search and list as many of these as possible! Because there is just so much we missed and this is my way to cope.

Plot threads:

What was Darius's mentor's name? and why/how was he "eliminated"? (was he who inspired/influenced Darius to form his own rebellion?)

How did Darius even uncover the Draining spell? did he sneak inside Belos's office and snatch the paper? did he overhear Belos talking with the Collector? did the previous Golden Guard leave him some hints as to what Belos' plan was all about?

How did the CATTs (Amber, Derwin, and Skara) escape the Conformatorium after Eda's requiem? Did Raine break them out? was it Darius? Steve? [Possible Answer: it seems that the cell they were throw-in was actually open]

How did Bump manage to implement multitracking in Hexide? Assuming that at one point, the Emperor's coven sent an actual inspector to the school, how did the detention kids and Bump deal with that?

What about the other magic schools? we never got to see Glandus High or St. Epiderm.

What happened with the Greater Basilisk? It was implied that the emperor's coven took her so... is she dead?

How did belos revive the basilisks? was the Collector involved in that or did he figure out that one on his own? what method did he use? If the collector give him the draining spell, then what was even the point of resurrecting them in the first place?

What exactly is the relationship between Hunter and Darius like? mentor? father figure? friend? After giving Hunter a scroll and promising him to keep Flapjack secret we really never got a proper look at their relationship after all of that. After all of those years of giving Hunter the cold shoulder, Darius must have dedicated a lot of time to gain Hunter's trust.

Grimwalkers, how did Belos discover their existence? The only explanation that comes to mind is that he found the "recipe" in some forgotten temple or that The Collector help him develop it throught trial and error. Althrought the books Hunter found imply that the Demon Realm knows to a certain extent of their existence.

What was that little box containing the puzzle and map to the Titan's Blood? and who put it there and why? Because I genuinely find it disjointed from everything, like, not even a hint was placed about who made it and for who.

What happened to the other basilisk that escaped with Vee, and what was their relationship like? We know they are fine at the end but where did they go? Were they just hiding, or were they searching for Vee? Were they like siblings to her? if not then why bother to stick together? maybe they did care for her...

During Vee's flashback of her time in captivity, we saw 5 cages... We know who inhabited cages 5, 4, and 3. Assuming that the greater basilisk was part of this row of cages, we are missing one basilisk. Who are they and where did they go? What did Belos do to them?

What was the aftermath of Eda's first transformation into the Owl Beast like? what did Lilith do after Eda ran away? What was Gween and Deell's first reaction to the whole situation?

Who was the owner of the Bat Queen? After what was said in the last PostHoot, and the possible connection between her and the tower of the Owl House, well, now I really want to know who.

How many Titans/islands exit in the Demon Realm? We know that other landmasses exist beyond the Demon realm, but we only know of two civilizations, The boiling Isles and the Titan Trappers Island. Are there the only ones? are there more somewhere out there?

Luz and Vee's relationship. There are obviously some unresolved issues between them which we never got to see being resolved. How did Luz feel about Vee being a better daughter to Camila? about Vee making friends in only a few months while she never got one throught her whole life in the human realm? How did she feel about getting a new demon sibling after seemingly losing one just a few days/weeks ago?

Philip and Caleb's relationship. We can only assume and interpret things based on what we saw in Belos's mindscape and what Masha told the Hexsquad.

Evelyn and Caleb's relationship. During the last PostHoot Dana described their relationship as something that developed slowly, but apart from that, we have nothing

Philip's arrival to the Demon realm. We don't have any specifics about when and how Philip ended up in the demon realm, did he follow Caleb exactly when he crossed with Evelyn? did it take him years to muster the courage to cross the portal or find him or it took him years just to find him when already in the demon realm?

What's up with the other coven heads? Hettie Cutborn? maybe she is a buff vampire. Vitmir? no idea what his deal is but he is definitely evil. Osran? also evil, but in a more cynical way. Mason? He gives me family man vibes.

How did Masha and the other Cabin 7 kids feel about the real Luz? it wasn't even addressed how Vee feels about the whole situation, heck she seemingly replaced them with Luz's friends! there is just a lot to unpack there...

What exactly is Raine's relationship with their... apprentices? (Amber, Katay, and Derwin) how did they all meet each other and how did they end up forming the rebellion?

Amity's palisman, how and when did she get them? Was the Bat Queen involved? Was Ghost Odalia's palisman?

Darius and Eberwolf… They seem so close, yet so personality-wise so different from one another. Maybe one day we will see how deep their dynamic goes.

Steve and Matt, we know they are half brothers, but what is their relationship really like? Wouldn't be a surprise if Matt resents him for "abandoning" him for the Emperor's coven.

Flora D'splora's original role and relevance to the story. The crew released a painting that was meant to be part of Hollow mind's background that depicts an unsettling scene of Belos alongside Flora... What was supposed to mean? Was Florea meant to be an antagonist? Or was it all just because of driving Lilith to find the time pools?

Vee and Hunter are literally siblings: kids artificially created by Belos to accomplish a single purpose, had to lie about their identity to make friends, both belong to an extinct species, their names are literally just titles the dynamic between them was literally the thing I wanted to most from Season 3... cries

Viney, Barcus, and Jerbo. I genuinely wanted to see what their newfound freedom to study any type of magic led them to. Possibly nothing important but considerating how multitracking became a thing at one point during the second season...

Hunter, buddy, how did you not recognize Kikimora's voice in For the Future? you worked alongside her your whole life! Don't take this one seriusly

How did Camila and Vee's relationship develop after the lie was no more? we know that at the end Vee is practically a Noceda, but how did they both handle the aftermath of Yesterday's lie? Did Camila at one point resent Vee for what she did, aware that if it wasn't for Luz's arrival, the lie would have continued indefinitely? Did Vee apologize and/or told Camila why she did it? Again, there is a lot to unpack there.

Personally, considerating all of these, I believe that if the Owl House ever gets a spin-off, it needs to be about what we missed because of the shortening. Like, don't get me wrong, A Young Eda and/or Evelyn sounds nice but I don't think that a whole series dedicated to them is necessary. Why not a little bit of everything? 1 episode for each one of these, maybe 2 if it seems necessary. We can finally get some closure for some of the characters that suffered from the shortening (Vee, Darius, Raine, Bosha, the Catss, etc) and get some well-needed answers for much of everything.

Huntlow is so funny to me because the writers were like...

"Shit... it makes no sense for Hunter's arc to end with him not getting a witch gf because Caleb's whole thing is that he left the human world to go start a family with a witch... and we wrote all that Lunter = Caleb/Evelyn stuff in previous episodes... but Luz is unavailable and we don't have the time to write a break up and Luz falling in love with him...

Yeah it sucks bc we foreshadowed a Lunter kiss in SAI, so now that episode is gonna look sus on a rewatch. Let's punt him off onto Willow even though she has never made it obvious she likes boys or that she even likes Hunter.

Yeah like, it doesn't make sense for Willow's arc to end with her getting a bf but Hunter getting a gf is more important than that tbh. ALSO give Willow, Luz's season 1 haircut. AND put her infront of Flapjack's grave even though she wasn't the one who introduced him to Hunter and she has never bonded with Flapjack the same way Luz did.

Okay cool, also let's not even make it clear if Willow and Hunter are dating by showing them kiss in the post credits or photos in the final episode. :)"

I'm supposed to think they're a thing when the show couldn't even commit to giving us explicit evidence that they're dating... this shit is too funny.

Young Eda spinoff this. Philip and Caleb spinoff that. Adult Hexsquad spinoff would be fire. But hear me out.

Gimme a spinoff called Lost Hoots. A show that goes through all the theoretical adventures we could have gotten if the show hadn't been shortened. No serialized plot needed, just show us what these intended episodes would have been like so we could explore x character or x location and how they would have fit into the Owl House world. Examples include:

...."Come on princess, I know you don't exactly trust me-" Azura said, doing her best not to let frustration seep into her voice.

  "It's not even that!" Hecate cut her off as a blush started to tunt her pale features. "It's... This place. It drove Ralathor to madness." She said softly.

 Azura understood, suddenly. "He wasn't just an advisor to you, was he?"

 Hecate shook her head. "I don't even remember my mother, and king Zargothrax..." She hardly needed to finish the thought. If the king was a good father, or even just a decent king, neither of them would be here now.

 "Ralathor basically raised me." Hecate finished weakly.

 "I- I didn't -" Azura stumbled over her words. What exactly could she say?

 "I don't blame you." The princess's back face said, seemingly startling the front. "Huh. I don't blame you. I grieve him, but... I think he would have wanted you to keep me safe."

 After a moment of silence, she shook her head. "But this? This place shouldn't even exist. Whatever is inside... How can we know it won't be be worse?"

 Azura smiled at her companion. "We don't. But we can't let things stand as they are right now."

 After a moment, Hecate's front face hardened, and she nodded.

 "Let's go."

 The cave, despite being the supposed resting place of the Iron Saviour, was at first glance just a cave- damp and cold and slick with moss and calcium.

 Hecate's magic was useful for light, but Azura decided to give the princess her nine-tail fur lined coat, to conserve the princess's magic.

 When the princess recoiled from it, Azura shook her head. "This fur was given freely and willingly to the Vorfik tribe, remember?"

 That seemed to ease the princess's mind, although she still was red in the face. Azura assumed it was because of the cold.

 "Won't you be cold?"

 Azura just shrugged. " I've trained in the frozen wastes of Kalku and in the burning sands of Archol. A chilly cave won't be what does me in." That was the truth, but not all of it. While she could only produce meager spells outwardly, Azura knew almost by instinct to channel her magic inwardly, so staving off brutal conditions was somewhat easier for her enhanced physique.

 She insisted on going first, since "It wouldn't do for a knight to let a princess step into a trap.", and thus was the first to reach the shining metal alcove.

 Hecate couldn't tear her front eyes from it.

 Before her, in this gods forsaken and long forgotten cave, stood what could only be described as a gruesome metal statue. The winged humanoid figure was impaled by a multitude of stone spikes, the empty sockets looking almost sullen, the mouthless face conveying mostly disappointment.

 She felt deep sorrow for it, and a strange desire to comfort the being.

 "What does that say?" Azura asked, tearing her from the strange and unsettling scene.

 She turned to the knight, who was squinting at the decorated metal arch over the statue.

 In it were emblazoned words in old witchtongue.

 "Dei Machina." Hecate read with reverence.

 "Wait, God Machine?" Azura frowned. "Maybe it's all those blows to the head I got recently, but that doesn't sound right."

 Hecate smirked even as her back mouth chuckled. "No, your memory is fine. The stories gave him the title Machine God. Machina Dei."

 As soon as the words left her mouth she felt something syphon her magic. Not enough to hurt her, just enough to notice.

 She turned to see Azura frowning, likely feeling a similar pull on her own magic, but before either could speak, lines of red light appeared all over the metal alcove, all pointing at the statue. 

 Then, it changed.

 The stone spikes began to crumble before her eyes as the metal of the statue... She had no word for the process other than 'healed', closing what would've been fatal wounds on any mortal in moments.

 Then it hit her.

 'The title called by royal blood

 Awakens him to stop the flood

 When his name in full shall ring

 comes alive the Mecha King.'

 "I-I think he is awake." She stammered out. Azura's eyes doubled in size. "What???"

 "The prophecy! To wake him up, royal blood needs to say his title!"

 "We just did that!!" Azura smiled, before frowning again, wait, but, he's not doing anything..."

 Hecate shook her head. "That's only half of it. We need to speak his name. But..." But the name of the Iron Saviour was lost eons ago. Nobody even-

 "Achtertool." Azura spoke, and the red lines shifted to green. When Hecate turned to stare at her, the infuriatingly smug knight actually had the audacity to smirk.

 "We say it once a year, during the celebration of the Downfall."

 Hecate wanted to give some sort of retort but the Iron Saviour's eyes lit up in a pale blue light and, without a mouth, it spoke.

 "BEWARE- I LIVE."

It would have been cool, i think, if Darius and his mentor had met while the Emperor's Coven was investigating the Owl Beast after Eda's first transformation. Like, Raine asks Darius to cause a distraction and he impresses the Golden Guard so much. Maybe the Guard even realizes he is going against a child (Eda) and calls off the search.

Doesn't really make sense if you imagine it as an episode of a series since it would need to be focused on Eda and most likely Lilith and probably Raine, so it would be a weirdly distracting b-plot, but... umm... AU?

"okay but what ACTUALLY happened in that minor characters backstory" "what did that character SPECIFICALLY do to become like this" "how does the plot device ACTUALLY work" oh my god i don't care! i don't care about your cinemasinsing about every little detail! does knowing this technical detail improve the audience's emotional understanding of the story? no? then i don't want to fucking see it in canon!

anything you come up with in fanworks is going to be more fun for you than what the author can do in canon! any attempts by the author to explain something technical in the story takes away time and investment from the main plot! so if the technical explanation doesn't inform the main plot then it's just useless trivia for completionism's sake! this shit should be written about in fanworks! or spinoffs! or idk the writers can tweet about it or smth! i don't need it in the actual main story!

Hunter, reading one of Luz's notes about character development: Now you are a main character who will go through multiple traumatic experiences that will test your resolve, willpower, and courage. Each one means to develop different traits of your identity. Eventually, at the end of your character arc, you will arise as the new YOU. Someone who has faced their worsts fears and become the greatest possible version of themselves...

Vee, borderline hyperventilating: C-can I just be a background character without any impact on the plot?

Luz: Aw! But you still need a lot of development to be my sister! Just imagine all the shenanigans that you, me, and Hunter could through! Don't you want to face Belos and give him a taste of his own medicine?

Vee: Meh! I'm sure there will be a lot of background details hitting at that. We don't need to even interact for that. Just... I don't know. I'm not sure how I will handle all the extra screen time, and you are all main characters and need all the time you need for your own Arcs. Besides, I'm not supposed to be just a plot device to explain your disappearance? you know., someone who becomes irrelevant once their purpose is fulfilled?

Luz: Don't you dare call yourself a plot device! You are so much more than that! Just imagine you bonding with Mom, or connecting with your friends from camp, those were your first friends ever, right? They could be parallel versions of Amity, Willow, and Gus, each one with their own personalities, complex qualities, and character arcs! what about all of the similarities between you and Hunter, don't you want to bond with your technicality brother?! Girl, you are PACKED with potential! You will need a whole spinoff to fit all of that!

just realized a lot of my love for the magical girl genre likely stems from the wish fulfillment aspect of a) getting to be a hero and do good in the world while also having adhd and being flaky as hell sometimes and b) getting to have a functioning group of girlfriends in high school instead of being home a third of the time with chronic migraine attacks but let's not unpack that right now

the timeskip was done so perfectly I think it leaves a lot of room for a spinoff showing the inbetween parts where the isles are being rebuilt. Like it'd be a good opportunity to solve some unresolved bits in the show- unraveling the mystery that is hooty, wrapping up unfinished things like the Caleb storyline, etc. Something slice of lifey that picks up the pieces left behind by disney cutting the fucking budget/runtime. Is it unlikely since Dana left disney? (good for her tbh) yes. Do I still desperately want it? Also yes.
