A compilation of Etho reacting to his 2011 1k subscriber special.
Clipped from the 1 million sub special, "Etho Plays Minecraft - Episode 283: 1 Million!" (starting at 28:40)
Feedback:
This was my first time doing captioning so please do let me know if there’s anything that can be improved! Even if it’s style-wize bc I’m bad at that stuff.
And as always, let me know if I can improve my video descriptions or transcriptions :)
Video description and transcription below cut:
Video description:
Etho's first-person POV in his 2011 Minecraft Let's Play world. It is night and Etho is on a beach as he introduces the video as well as a celebratory tree sapling placed near the water. The video is a screen recording, and 2013 Etho commentates over it, but is unseen.
———
Cut to a new clip in the same setting. It is nighttime and Etho places a torch on a path of dirt blocks, lighting the area. The dirt blocks connect to the top of the tree, now grown, with a mob trap on top (a pressure plate surrounded by 4 doors). Etho walks through the trap and down some dirt steps. He walks around the dim-lit beach as older Etho laughs at him.
———
Cut to a new clip in the same setting. It is day now and Etho is on top of the tree, trying to lead a creeper into the mob trap. He breaks the door closest to the creeper, the creeper jumps and Etho backs away. The creeper explodes, bringing Etho to three and a half hearts, and destroying the top of the tree. As older Etho reacts in amusement, young Etho looks at the tree in shock, opens his inventory, drops a dirt block, and jumps down to the beach. A zombie floats in the water, and Etho tries to attack it with his sword, but is killed by the zombie.
———
Cut to a new clip in the same setting. It is day and Etho stands on the beach looking at the tree. The leaves have been reconstructed with wool and the entire thing is on fire. Etho jumps around as he watches the wool burn away. A piece of TNT is revealed in the center of the tree, and when lit by the fire, it explodes in a flurry of white and black particles, taking a chunk of the beach with it. Etho walks over and looks down at the destruction as older Etho pauses the video in amusement.
———
Transcription:
Young Etho: Hello everyone. Etho here again with episode nine of our Let's Play minecraft adventures
Etho: Ah, the voice is so different
Young Etho: And uh, before we can do anything this episode... I noticed, I just passed one thousand subscribers on YouTube
Etho: Oh, don't rub your nose
Young Etho: A thousand!
Etho: Woww
Young Etho: I'm blown away
Etho: Me too!
Young Etho: Over a thousand people willingly choose to watch me do crazy, stupid stuff in this game
Etho: *chuckles*
Young Etho: And I think that is just awesome
Etho: I don't know how you did it
Young Etho: So thanks to everybody who's- who is subscribing. And uh, please continue watching. We'll have lots of fun together.
Etho: Mhmm
Young Etho: And, uh, to celebrate the event, I planted this tree
Etho: *laughs*
Young Etho: to commoderate [commemorate] it
Etho: Alright
Young Etho: And...
Etho: Here it comes
Young Etho: It's gonna be a great tree ^-^
Etho: *laughs loudly* Needed a long pause there for emphasis
———
Etho: Yes! And a torch, he placed a torch! *laughs* I love how it's pitch black and you can't see anything.
Young Etho: Okay. So this is where the guest of honor's gonna sit.
Etho: And you've got an inventory full of torches and you're not using them. *laughs*
Young Etho: I really wish we got a better tree out of this, but whatever
Etho: I wish we could see
———
Etho: *laughs loudly* Aww special ruined. I- I was so, so sad. I didn't know what to do. What do I do now?
I- I'm not talking at all. It's just like... I failed. I failed. *laughs*
———
Young Etho: Awesome!!!
Etho: *laughs* Having the time of my life here. And a piece of TNT goes off. *laughs* And that was my special
Young Etho: Party's over, time to clean up
Etho: Aww, so good. *laughs* So good. How things have changed!

Chapter 9 of Sparrow Hood's Diary: My mom's book
Summary: We're taking a break from the General Villainy plotline and learning more about the book "Secrets of Sherwood Forest" by Maid Marian.
AO3 link
---
Notes:
I made up mirrortop to mean EAH's equivalent of laptop lol.
If you aren't familiar, Secrets of Sherwood Forest is a book Queen Charming gives Darling in A Semi-Charming Kind of Life, with suspiciously callused hands not fit for a queen if I may be bold enough to add.
We don't know anything about the book so you'll have to live with my theories about it :P
And I haven't read A Semi-Charming Kind of Life, and I don't plan to, because of this convo I had in the notes with Tumblr user @titansfilm (spoilers for the book maybe)
That book sounds too uncomfortable for me and I do not want to read it.
---
I was still a bit shocked by the swan princess' destiny so I couldn't focus on my GV assignment.
So I decided to look up the book mom gave me.
I checked the mirrornet for a review or summary but it's like it doesn't exist?
Then my busted old mirrortop got stuck. It wouldn't shut down, wouldn't move. Man, I wish I could use some of Robin Hood's bounty for a new laptop. Maybe I could sell the treasure I get from Badwolf for it.
I took my mirrortop and book to my bro Humphrey in the AV Club - he's a pro with tech stuff. We met up in Wonderland one summer, he’s a fellow writer, gamer, and all around cool dude.
Blondie came in later and her mom's a tech wiz so she and Humphrey worked on my mirrortop together.
Some other students came in too - I wish I could remember who exactly because something weird happened later.
They fixed my mirrortop, and I listened to some of Humphrey's poetry in return. Methinks he's got a not-so-secret crush on one of the fairest princesses at EAH. She better not break his heart, otherwise I'll come after her; I don't care if she’s a princess.
Dexter's also in the AV Club, and since he also volunteers at the library, I thought maybe he could help me find out something about the book.
When I picked up my book, a piece of paper fell out and, get this, it had some Riddlish on it? I'm sure it wasn't there before so it must've been one of the students who came into the AV Club when I wasn’t paying attention.
I pocketed the paper before I showed the book to Dex. He said it looked familiar but he couldn't find anything about it when he checked the library database. That’s weird. He then noticed the author and said we could just ask my mom. Well, duh. For a smart guy he sure misses a lot of obvious stuff.
---
Notes:
If you didn't catch it, Sparrow has a busted laptop because his dad won't buy him a new one coz that's rich people stuff, so Sparrow has to be resourceful and work with what he's got or earn/steal cash on his own to buy stuff he wants.
Goldie Lockes knows computers in The Class of Classics so now she and her daughter are tech wizes :P

Wings Talks Manga: A Year in Review, Part 1 (Completed stories)
Last year, I told myself I was going to actually really more manga and watch more anime, because despite it being my main style I hadn’t actually read much in awhile. And I actually managed to get a lot done for one year. So below is a list of stories I read/watched and a few quick thoughts on them. Despite having my list open, I’m still probably not going to get to all of them, but I can try.
Be warned for spoilers.
T.egami Bachi (manga)
I love. Anyone following this tag of mine knows this has been a long journey and that I loved every minute of it. The world is beautiful, the characters are great, the emotions run high...it’s incredibly cathartic and engaging. I will never stop lauding it.
Jiu Jiu (manga)
A short series I picked up from the library that I never really covered, but that I enjoyed. Sometimes it felt a little slow to work through, but it was cute and I got really attached to the characters over five volumes. Like the mangaka, I wish there had been more opportunity to delve deeper into some of the story elements, because especially near the end it got confusing. Also I’m assuming it ended in a poly relationship? The protag grows up and has babies but you can’t really tell which love interest is the father, if either are. They’re all together in the final picture and I support it but it also bugs me bc I am confused.
Dreamin’ Sun (manga)
Mixed feelings on this one. I honestly expected a modern fantasy involving a baku going into this based on the back cover. I was wrong. I was really cute, if not overwhelmingly emotionally frustrating/full of secondhand embarassment at some points. The characters are super well-developed and continue to evolve and grow through the series. I will forever complain about the protag falling in love and centering her life around an adult man, but there were also some very touching elements that I can’t help but remember fondly.
The Wize Wize Beasts of the the Wizarding Wizdoms (manga)
The first of a lot of BL I read this year, which is honestly very new to me. My introduction to Nagabe. I’ve mentioned there’s one story I’m not too fond of, but it could be my interpretation of it. Overall very much loved it and especially love the art style.
K.amisama Kiss (manga)
I series I kind of picked up on a whim and absolutely fell in love with. Cute, funny, touching, well-thought out. There were some elements I didn’t understand (like the end), but my enjoyment overall made up for it. The one thing I wish for was a little more development for some of the minor characters. Also I love Mizuki and his development throughout the series. He makes me emotional.
Our Dining Table (manga)
Another cute, simple love story about two guys making food. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this other than it’s cute and you should read it. Although I obviously have no issues with teenage protags, it was refreshing to have a love story about two working adults that didn’t have to involve sex. Also can totally understand one guy’s aversion to eating with others, even if my own isn’t as severe.
Love on the Other Side (manga)
More Nagabe. Really, really cute. I love the story with the bird (of course). The softness of the stories and Nagabe’s art style really have stolen my heart.
B.lack Butler: Book of Circus (anime)
We all know why I watched this. Sadly the ending is as gruesome as the manga, and the one or two scenes they added didn’t play well on the DVD. But still a delight (up until the end).
The Devil is a Part-Timer (anime)
Interesting. Funny. A good world base, but I feel they could have developed it a little more, and the last episode kind of soured it a little for me because there was no really wrap-up. But I liked the characters and had a lot of fun watching it while crocheting. Wish there was a season two.
The Bride was a Boy (manga)
A brief autobiographical manga about a trans woman, filled with lots of tidbits about transgender individuals and things like HRT. Short, sweet, cute, and full of love and joy. Again, not much to say other than I recommend it.
Fractale (anime)
A lot to process. I think I would need to watch it again to fully wrap my head around it, if not more than once. An interesting world, great character, engaging story, and beautiful animation. Plus just...kinda relevant in a way that’s hard to describe. Think ease of technology verses governmental control via tech. I really loved the episode about the mysterious photographer. Plus I just fell in love with the ending song.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (anime)
Yes, I’d never watched this before. Gonna say, not my favorite Miazaki, but as usual an excellent story with a lot of background and development. And of course I loved the creature design. Glad to finally have it watched, after all these years, but I also can’t help but wonder what the original English release was like, knowing they cut/edited a lot. Because a lot of that violence and death was...kinda necessary to understanding character motives.
H.aibane Renmei (anime)
Again, another series that’s been at the top of my list for forever. I didn’t even have an excuse not to watch is as I own the DVDs. Excellent, and touching, if not cutting a little too close to home at times (like self-harm/BFRB). Really my introduction to ABe, and I have to say I never saw the ending coming. But would definitely watch again and again. Kinda wish I could do a cosplay for this series (I’d probably be Nemu, or one of the masked characters), but I feel like you need a group for it.
G.osick (anime)
I didn’t complete this one, I’m sorry. I think the art is great, and the arcs in concept are amazing...but it falls through in the delivery. The characters don’t really feel like they have driving motives behind their actions, and sometimes the evidence and stuff are things you can’t discern from watching (’I can tell you aren’t the daughter of a coal baron because you walk short distances before turning sharply and walking the other way, like you’re pacing in a small psych ward cell’-yes, that’s a real example). Lots of potential, but not great. Sorry.
Wolf Children (anime)
Very cute. Beautiful anime. I don’t think I can say much about this that hasn’t already been said. My favorite part is the ending where she’s saying goodbye just because of how both painfully and empoweringly emotional it is.
5 Centimeters Per Second (anime)
Not bad, but probably not my favorite. It didn’t help that the version I was watching didn’t translate all of the writing, so I feel like I missed a lot of elements. While the story is definitely a sentiment I can get behind, it was also a little bit unsatisfying for me, especially at the end. But idk, maybe I just don’t like the idea of moving on when there’s the opportunity to not.
Colorful (anime)
It was...a film. About a suicide. Looking back I don’t particularly feel strongly either way about it. I think the ending was good, and giving the protag some sort of motivation, but it took forever to really get to a point where I cared about him (or he seemed to really care about the body he was inhabiting and the person he was trying to be). Some of the stuff was just...uncomfortable. It’s probably worth watching, but overall I wasn’t wowed by it.
Ibistu (manga)
My first shrink-wrapped manga. It ties together very well in the end, and the horror and violence elements did elicit some very visceral reactions in me (particularly the threat of the iron and, later, the staples). The short stories were also good, particularly the doll factory one, but I wasn’t the most fond of the one about the mangaka. Just know there’s a reason it’s shrink-wrapped and it’s not a ‘positive’ one.
A Silent Voice (anime)
Probably one of my favorite films. While I didn’t always understand the motivations behind some of the characters or their actions, it wasn’t in a way that made me uncomfortable like some of the things in Colorful did. It felt more natural for them to be irrational. Again, there is suicide, so be warned if you don’t want to deal with that. But the story is sweet and the characters are amazing. But I also have a weakness for things involving sign language and communication.
Children Who Chase Lost Voices (anime)
Very cool. Beautiful landscapes. Gave me very strong Princess Mononoke vibes at some points, but it also stood as its own story with interesting characters there are elements I wish we could have delved deeper into, though. Also...what war did the teacher fight in? It didn’t look very modern. Also also I will forever wince at the pronunciation of ‘Quetzalcoatl’. Death is a strong theme in it, so be prepared if you watch it.
The Boy and the Beast (anime)
Excellent character design. Excellent story. Excellent animation. My one complaint would be that the climax felt kind of thrown together, even though it tied back to the beginning in a good way. But overall a beautiful world with some great humor and intense elements.
The Garden of Words (anime)
Spoiler: again a story about a kid falling in love with an adult. From a platonic standpoint, the story still feels a little weird, particularly in terms of the woman’s motivations, but looking back her not getting too involved in him missing school...kinda feels like what I would do to, especially in her situation. It’s sweet, though. Maybe it’s just me and my preferences, but some elements feel a bit incomplete, and I wish had been explored/wrapped up.
Summer Wars (anime)
Probably a favorite on the films list. Again, beautiful animation. I’m not going to get over this style. But I especially liked the design of OZ and the excess of blank space in it. Characters were many but great (although I didn’t get the one baseball player was part of the family until almost the end, but that says more about me and paying attention). Even Mom got really engaged in it when I had her watch it with me (I also had her watch Wolf Children, which I thought she would like more, but apparently not). There is a character death, but if you don’t mind that it’s definitely a watch.
Beauty and the Beast Girl (manga)
A cute little story about a blind girl and a dragon girl falling in love-what more could you want? Their histories actually tie together in a really neat way. Honestly my one complaint would be that the ending feels a little too ideal and easily wrapped-up. But sometimes we need things to be that perfect, you know?
P.andora Heart (manga)
The other big story I tackled this year. There were points that were a bit slow/disengaging to me, but overall once I got hooked I really loved it. I think I need a second read to really fully understand it (if that’s possible), but equal parts cute, intense, and bittersweet. Elliot’s whole development was probably my favorite bit.
The God and the Flightless Messenger (manga)
My last story of 2020, and a very cute one at that. Another short story, with beautiful art. I don’t...really know what to say about it. It’s cute, and the love story feels both very natural and almost...secondary? Idk how to describe that. The relationship between the two of them is obviously key, but it’s the type of story where ‘I love you’ isn’t needed. It’s already there.
So yeah, there’s the list. It’s a long list. I probably still missed some. I might try to make a second list with ‘in progress’ series but I’ll be playing that by ear. I’d love to hear some of you all’s thoughts on these stories (if you’ve read/watched them), or which you now want to read/watch!

SO I am huge disney fan as well as A huge Hunger Games Fan so I thought combined them together. To Make Which Disney Charaters I would think would be in the Hunger Games and what districts they would come from... So I call thing the Tributes of the Hunger Games Disney Style...
I Realized after I did this many of them could of had a chance to win so basically my style was more 75th Games...
Now my rules where... It has to be one character per movie. No other one. ( Because I could put all incredibles and all mulan and all Big Hero 6 and Some others... So to make it more challanging I made sure each “Tribute” was from a different movie,
Here is why I picked them... ( And twisted songs too for some)
Fairy God Mother... Bibbidi bobbidi boo your dead too. With her Powers I’d say she has a chance...
Simba.. The Young Cub ( Used the wrong Picture clearly opps) Just wants to be King. ( Im gonna be a mighty king the winner of these games... “ Well I’ve never seen a king of beast with quite so little range” Im gonna be the main event like no tribute was before I'm brushing up on looking down I'm working on my roar. “ Thus far, a rather uninspiring thing” Oh, I just can't wait to be Victor... (Just Can’t wait to be King)
Mulan Lets Get Down to business to win these games, Mulan could do it with her fighting range shes the baddest ass you’ve meant and she hasn’t got a clue. Some how she will fight for her food.. “ Other Tributes” I'm never gonna catch my breathSay goodbye to those who knew me Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym This guy's got 'em scared to death Hope he doesn't see right through meNow I really wish that I knew how to swim. Be like Mulan As swift as the wepons she brings. Be like Mulan with the force of her great moves.. Be Like Mulan with all the Strength of range and fire, She is Mysterious as the dark side of her mood... ( Make a Man outta you)
Beast... Tale as old as time Old as old as rhyme... He’s a freaking beast after all..
Violet She has to power to be invisible right. A good quality to the games..
Baymax I love Baymax so much... He could somehow use its healing powers against the other tributes..
Kida ( I honestly don’t know much about her I only chose her to be in the Fishing District Honestly)
King Triton Look at this Stuff isn’t it neat I got shit that other Tributes cannot Compete. Wouldn’t you think Im the Man the Man who has Everything. Look at this Triton can damage your soul you think your knife has a chance. wow your bold.. Sure you think geeze he’s got everything... He’s got Tritons and Fishnets of plenty hes got powers galore you got a sword well I got 20 but who cares no big deal I’ll win the award... ( Little Mermaid Part of your world)
Tiana It Doesn’t matter what she looks like Don’t matter what she wears. How many tributes you kill no one cares.. Don’t matter where she comes from. Don’t matter who she is poor, a frog in the Hunger Games... You gotta dig a little deeper to outsmart Tiana you got to dig a little deeper to win these games.. (Dig a little Deeper) .
Aladdin One step ahead of the Tributes. One step ahead of the careers. I steal only what I can’t afford and that’s everything. One Jump ahead of the Gamemakers they think I am a joke... These guys don't appreciate that this a war... “Other Tributes” “Get him, Theive, Stab him,Take that. Just a little snack I can take a hint. Could really use an ally or two.. (One Jump Ahead)
Bo Peep she was one bad ass Lamp decoration in Toy Story 4 I think she would have a good chance..
Flynn Rider. 7 am the usual morning lineup. Start on the Careers then make sure my Wepons are clean... Polish and wax, Do a back check and shine up by then its like 7:15. So I’ll Hunt a little Maybe Climb a tree. Kill another many two or three. I’ll add a few more wepons to my Gallery. I’ll fight again and cook and basically wonder when will these Games be over for me... ( When Will my life begin)
Maleficent Play her cards right with the poison she could win... ( I picked her for District 7 Since she is good with wood)
Tarzan.. I thought wow he can swing from trees real good..
Elsa The blood glows red on the mountain tonight not a tribute to be seen an arena of isolation and it looks like im the queen.. The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside. Couldn’t keep it in Heaven knows I’ve tried. Don’t let them in don’t let them see be the tribute, you have to be.. Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know Well, now they know. Kill Snow Kill Snow Cannot hold it back anymore... (Let it go) ( I picked her for District 8 Because she is a wize at dress making)
Maui Ok, ok, I see what's happening here You're face to face with greatness, and it's strange. You don’t know how it feels to kill it’s a adorable! well it’s nice to see that games never change.. open your eyes and lets begin yeah it’s really me “District 8″ Breathe it in I know it’s a lot the fabrics the wepons. When your stairing at a Tribute god.. What can I say except you're welcome. For the kills the wepons the knifes. it’s okay it’s okay your Welcome I’m just an ordinary tribute god.. ( Your Welcome)
TinkerBell She can fly she can fly she can fly
Randell he can turn invisible too...

London to Addis - Grime x Ethiopia (No Hats No Hoods)
London to Addis is a pioneering Grime instrumental compilation, combining for the first time traditional Ethiopian instruments and an all-star line-up of Grime producers. The release covers the full spectrum of the Grime sound - from the direct percussive bangers of Dexplicit, Ignorants, J Beatz and TC4, melodies of JT The Goon, Wize and Shudan, to the more experimental and abstract sounds of Proc Fiskal and Captain Over. The aim of the project was to bring together the two very different worlds of Grime and traditional Ethiopian Music and explore what can be created by fusing these two styles and exchange knowledge. Traditional Ethiopian music uses pentatonic scales and different time signatures which inspired the Grime producers to explore and experiment outside of their comfort zone. Tracks such as Ignorants - Uncolonised - the first 3/4 time signature Grime track pays homage to some of Ethiopia's traditional styles and rhythm, whilst incorporating them into a Grime sound. Recorded over a week in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, the instruments used are just a small sample of the huge range of Ethiopia's rich musical heritage which remains largely undocumented outside of the country. Whilst the music of west-African music from countries such as Ghana and Nigeria are more well known in the UK, Ethiopia's music uniquely combines both African and more Arabic sounds and rhythms as a result of its proximity to the middle east. The 4 instruments recorded were the Masinko, Krar, Washint, Drums as well as traditional vocalists. The Masinko is a single-stringed fiddle made from horses tail and hide that is throughout Ethiopia by several groups, including the Amhara, the Tigreans and Oromo. The Krar is a traditional 5 stringed lyre. Different techniques such as bowing, strumming and plucking can be used to create a variety of sounds and tones. The Washint is a wooden flute usually made of bamboo with four finger holes. Washint players normally have a large range of flutes to enable them to play in different keys. 4 additional bonus tracks from the project are made available exclusively on the Bandcamp release. Wahint: Ermias Nadew Kebero: Bilelegne Deresse - Kebero Krar / Mesenqo - Wondemeneh Kifle Mesenqo / Male Vocals - Tezazu Mulat Mimi Mulugen - Female Vocals Engineer and Producer: Chris Hodgson Artwork: Haaris Sarkar Executive Producers; Peter Todd & Trevor Henry

Reflection-How can I teach primary music with passion and confidence?
Music is everywhere around us. Music in the birds chirping, in our walks, clock ticking, in the wind, as it makes the leaves rustle, the moving car, moving bike, etc. It is everywhere, but sometimes we notice and sometimes we don’t. It can be learned by understanding all the elements of Music.
The foundations of Music in a Primary school setting:
Learning in Music - Learning in Music involves exploring the elements of Music and how they work together, various forms of musical notation, and technical skills in singing and playing instruments. It also involves learning how to teach, program, and assess these areas.
Making in Music- Making in Music involves students exploring, improvising, composing, notating, practicing, refining, and performing.
Responding in Music - Responding in Music is about students appreciating their own and others’ musical works by listening, describing, reflecting on, analysing, appreciating, and evaluating.
ACARA has designed the curriculum so that the children have a fair understanding of music at the end of each year in the school. The below achievement standards are considered when assessing children:
“By the end of Year 2, students communicate about the music they listen to, make and perform and where and why people make music.
Students improvise, compose, arrange and perform music. They demonstrate aural skills by staying in tune and keeping in time when they sing and play.”
“By the end of Year 4, students describe and discuss similarities and differences between the music they listen to, compose and perform. They discuss how they and others use the elements of music in performance and composition.
Students collaborate to improvise, compose and arrange sound, silence, tempo, and volume in music that communicates ideas. They demonstrate aural skills by singing and playing instruments with accurate pitch, rhythm, and expression.”
“By the end of Year 6, students explain how the elements of music are used to communicate meaning in the music they listen to, compose and perform. They describe how music is influenced by music and performances from different cultures, times, and places.
Students use rhythm, pitch, and form symbols and terminology to compose and perform music. They sing and play music in different styles, demonstrating aural, technical, and expressive skills by singing and playing instruments with accurate pitch, rhythm, and expression in performances for audiences.” (ACARA Music Curriculum, Achievement Standards)
Learning music can help students develop self-confidence, self-discipline, and teamwork. It builds confidence, self-expression and fosters creativity. An education inclusive of music maximises student opportunity. Music helps students progress in other important learning areas such as Maths and English, which involves learning to recognise and use patterns and sequences when composing, performing, and listening. Music stimulates incomparable development of a child’s brain and leads to improved concentration and memory abilities.
Music help students to acquire knowledge, skills, and understanding in performing music of different genres and other cultures. Children develop their knowledge, skills, and knowledge of their music and others. It also assists students in participating in and contributing to cultural life, becoming informed consumers of the arts and culture, empathizing with others, and considering their career paths.
Students can develop their aural skills and an understanding of pitch by exploring sounds in the environment, like recognizing the sound of a bus when compared with a lorry and at home, such as hearing the difference between banging on a small piece of a cardboard box and a big plastic box. You can buy simple instruments like drums or tambourines or make your shaker from rice grains in a plastic bottle. When they learn about the pitch, it helps them develop their aural skills, essential for understanding music. The dynamics of music helps in learning music, making music, and responding to music.
The music can be planned as a sole subject and by embedding it in different subjects and KLA’s to develop the understanding in students. The experiences can be designed and organised to be done in the class.
It can be assessed as group work or individual performances. But it is believed that it puts more pressure on the children as they perform individually. It is recommended that it be assessed in a small group of 4-5 children so that teachers can assess their learning and do not get stressed during the process.
Music can express emotions which could be done through emotion check with the children via music. They can express themselves and communicate with music. Music has changed over time based on cultures and society. Music has been used to praise God and express emotions like romanticism, fear, hope. Later in the times, it was seen to be full of dissonance and unusual harmonies.
The innovations in technologies made it possible for people to experience music everywhere. Understanding the evolution of music can help the teachers provide in-depth understanding and then make children aware of the simple instruments used in ancient times and the history, importance of music, musical instruments, and how music has evolved with time. The evolution of music with time and being shared in different regions and societies with various mediums has made music endure throughout.
The understanding of the music and the curriculum helps me get the confidence. This confidence ultimately fuels my passion for teaching music in the classroom setting. It makes me aware of every aspect that I should consider in planning, designing, and incorporating it in my teaching as sole subject and embedded in different KLA’s to make learning fun and memorable.
